'Hank', 'Beaver' (Henry) L. Cornillie "Hank", "Beaver" (Henry) L. Cornillie, a 7 1/2 year resident of Orangeburg, South Carolina, 74 years young on August 31, 2009, husband of Kathy Tafuri- Cornillie passed Wednesday, September 2, 2009, peacefully at their North Road residence. He was alert until he passed. He was born in Grosse Pointe Park, Mich. and worked 51 years at a 105 year old, third generation family owned business. He began at 17 shoveling coal and delivering kerosene to customers in the brutal Michigan winters. He was loyal, hard-working and honest. He always said, "Pity the poor man who cannot find time or strength to help his neighbor." He served in the Armed Forces for three years, was a Knights of Columbus member for 20 years in Roseville, Mich. He was an active member in the community and served on the planning commission in St. Clair Shores, Mich. He was also an active member of his local parish in Orangeburg. An avid athlete, he played varsity football, was an excellent tennis player, skied in Austria and would water ski behind anyone who had a boat with a tow rope. His Corvette and motorcycle were his favorite companions. In September 2001, a hairdresser noticed a small scalp mole which shortly thereafter led to a Michigan dermatologist, surgery and removal of a Stage 4 Melanoma. He diligently followed up with CAT Scans and MRIs for the next seven years. His eighth year, July 2009 showed his Melanoma returned and his CAT scans discovered he had Metastatic Melanoma of his lung and liver. A trip to U of M in Ann Arbor followed by the Van Eslander Cancer Center brought him back to Med. Univ. of S.C. in Charleston. He decided on an oral chemo protocol for five days on, and twenty-three days off. His odds were given at 15%. He said, "15% is hundreds of people, I might be one of the hundreds." He began Thursday, August 27, and completed his five-day regimen on his 74th birthday. The chemo took him down, although he had none of the usual side effects, he had extreme weakness and tiredness. He died peacefully, petting his cat and being held by his wife. Two hours earlier, with his eyes wide open, he was anointed by his parish pastor, Rev. Fr. Michael Okere of Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Riverbank. He is survived by two aunts, Marie and Maggie, originally Cornillies; two brothers, Charles (Jackie) and Michael (Marie) Cornillie; brother-in-law, Thomas Tafuri (Nancy) and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. on October 3, 2009, at St. Gertrude/Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 28839 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores. Repast venue will be announced after the memorial Mass. |

Barbara Barrett Sutton, age 83, of Hudson passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the Lenawee County Medical Care Facility in Adrian after a long illness. She was born on April 5, 1926, in Scottville, Mich., the daughter of Orley and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Barrett. She was a graduate of Morenci High School in 1944 and of Michigan State University in 1980. She married Justin C. “Jack” Sutton, II on Dec. 27, 1947, in Morenci and they lived in Lansing until moving to Hudson in 1988.  Barbara had been employed as a model in Chicago, was former owner of the Perfection Studio (Charm School) in Lansing, was a former salesperson with Fashion Two Twenty in Detroit, and was a former marketing director for WKAR Channel 23 PBS in Lansing.  Barbara was a member of the O.E.S. at Morenci, the Addison United Church, the Beta Sigma Phi of MSU, a member of the Lenawee Country Club, the Devils Lake Yacht Club, the Addison and Hudson Woman’s Clubs, and was a former director of the March of Dimes in Lansing. Barb instituted women’s cheerleading at MSU and was the first female cheerleader in the Big Ten where she organized the first Big 10 female cheerleaders. She also was a former member of the MSU Women’s Golf Team. She enjoyed square dancing, ice skating, golfing and dance clubs. Surviving besides her husband, Jack, are their children, Justin C. Sutton, III of San Diego, Calif., Barrett G. Sutton of Traverse City, Tamera Jean Sutton of Ann Arbor and Tyge R. (Stephanie) Sutton of Nashville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; her brother, James (Patricia) Barrett of Morenci; and her sister, Grace Burke of Addison. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Lucille Stephenson and Harriet Stephens; and a grandson, Demetrius. Carole G. Walper passed away on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, in Oakland Park, Fla. She was born on April 10, 1932, in Canton, Ohio, to Warren C. and Lucille (Hauck) Gifford. She graduated from St. Ursula Academy of Toledo, Ohio. She attended the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. On April 7, 1956, she married Norman Walper, who preceded her in death in 2006. Carole was employed by the H. R. Radcliffe Furniture Company in Toledo, Ohio, and Walper Furniture Company in Adrian, Mich. She spent summers at Devils Lake, where she was a charter member of the Devils Lake Ski Devils. Prior to her move to the Marco Island/Naples, Fla., area, she and Norm resided in Adrian, Mich., where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Epsilon sorority.  She was active at the Lenawee Country Club and the Devils Lake Yacht Club. Carole was an accomplished artist and author, having her works published in The Daily Telegram, Lenawee Tribune and the Toledo Blade newspapers. In 1996, she moved to Florida and was active in the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron and they enjoyed many trips with the Marco Men’s Club. Carole is survived by her daughters, Sheryl (Keith) Braun of Marco Island, Fla., Marcia (Gary) Crane of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Jodie Jones of Oakland Park, Fla.; six grandchildren, Cari Braun, Kip Braun, Kelley Crane, Amy Crane, Tommy Jones and Craig Jones.  She is also survived by her brother, Warren (Jane) Gifford of Fairmont, Minn., and her dog, Luci. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Norman; her daughter, Linda; brother, Howard Gifford; and two sisters, Bette Rimmelin and Jacqueline (Pinky) Kennedy. Clarice Lillie Salway of Jonesville passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale. She was born March 21, 1920 in Trenton the daughter of John Henry and Lillie Mary (Torangue) Laurell. In Oct. of 1950 she married Grant Henry Salway and he preceded her in death in 1977; she was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Albert, Harold, Johnny and Charles Laurel; and one grandson, Bobby Easler. She is survived by three children, Rosemary (Jerry) Easler of Hillsdale, Patty (Duane) Trevathan of Hillsdale and Grant (Linda) Salway of Jonesville; eight grandchildren, Wanda (Tom) Holland, Donna (Dale) Winter, Julie (Clifford) Sparks, Mickey (Robin) Rowe, Rickey (Vivi) Rowe, April (Joe) Harper, Candie (Todd) Stalens and Sonya (Terry) Draper; two step-grandchildren, Todd (Alex) Trevathan and Gail (Brett) McClain; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve (Jack) Sines; and several nieces and nephews. Dennis L. Rehder Dennis L. Rehder, 68 of Caseville, died September 29 in Saginaw. Born in Detroit on May 6, 1941, to Daniel L. and Eleanor (Badaczewski) Rehder. A 1960 graduate of Mount Clemens High School, he served with U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, 1960-64. On August 4, 1962, he and Carol Ann Patton were married in Mount Clemens. While a student at Mount Clemens High, he was named to 1st Team All-State in football, All-League, All-City, and All-Conference. He also played for the Detroit Lions Farm Club. Dennis retired in 1991 from the Chrysler Mound Road Engine Plant, where he worked since 1966. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Caseville, where he served as an elder. In addition to his wife, Carol Ann, Dennis is survived by children, Robin Rehder of Caseville and Randy (Lorena) Rehder of Everett; grandchildren, Ashley and Keegan; sisters: Marion (Robert) Ryan of Coca, Florida, Shirley (Robert) Bonmon of Newport, Carole (Burton) Ellis of Buckley, Eleanor (Robert) Boden of East Tawas, and Karen Burtle of Roseville; adopted daughter, Gretchen Petraszko of Port Austin; several nieces and nephews; and special buddy, Sammy. He graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. On Sept. 3, 1960, Donald married Lee Donna DeMoss. They celebrated 45 years of marriage prior to her death in 2006. Don’s passions were his family, travel and NASCAR races. Don worked for General Motors for 32 years, retiring in 1992. After retiring, Don and Lee traveled throughout the United States, living in their motor home. In 1999, they retired from full-time travel and settled in Crossville, Tenn.  Don is survived by three children, Michelle (Steven) Merritt of Adrian, Mark Dice of Havelock, N.C., and Michael (Susie) Dice of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Caitlin Merritt, Jason Merritt, Sharissa Dice and Allison Dice. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Don’s life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home. Dora Jean (Holmes) Haynes died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at age 84. Dora Jean was born on June 3, 1925, the daughter of Hazel (Mettler) and Leon Holmes of Quincy. She and her high school sweetheart, Max, were 1942 graduates of Quincy High School and they married on Aug. 29, 1943. After the war, they owned farms in Quincy, first, and then in Coldwater. Later, they both worked for the Coldwater Regional Center until their retirement in 1984. They were married 52 years at the time of Max’s death in 1996. She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Union Church of Quincy. She taught Sunday school, belonged to Martha Circle, volunteered in the church’s “Sonshine” thrift shop/ food cupboard and served in many other ways. She will always be remembered for her nurturing and loving care of her family and many friends, and her faith and strength through adversity. Her generosity and kindness were returned over and over with the care given her by neighbors, former co-workers and friends in her later years.  Dora Jean moved to Yukon, Okla., near her daughter, Marlene, in 2007. She lived at Victorian Estates assisted living until June 2009 when she moved to Ranchwood Nursing Center. In both facilities, she made friends quickly, received excellent care and was loved by those around her.  She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Karen (Thomas) Schiedel, of Rochester, N.Y., and Marlene (Randy) Kelly of Yukon, Okla.; grandchildren: Joseph (Neely) Schiedel, Brian (Jennifer) Schiedel and Nicole Kelly (fiancé Ben Craig); great grandchildren: Alexis, Amelia and Addison Schiedel, Caden Schiedel, Scotty Pomponio and many kind and loving friends. Dora Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Max Haynes, Sr., a son, Max Haynes, Jr. and her brother, Wilbur D. Holmes. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. Eleanor C. Andrews, age 85, of Tecumseh died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Tecumseh Place II. She was born April 18, 1924, in Bethpage, Tenn., to Hayden and Hallie (Leath) Reed. She grew up in Higgins Lake, and was a long time resident in the Detroit area as well as Fennville.  She moved to Holland in 2006. Irene M. Long, 91, of Bryan, Ohio and formerly of Hudson passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at the Bryan Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Kenton, Ohio to Hallie G. and Grace (Hills) Wright. She married Wayne E. Long on Oct. 28, 1978, in Coldwater and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2004. Irene lived in Coldwater from 1978 to 1987. She then moved to Leffingwell Estates in Hudson in 1987, to Arlington, Ohio in 2001, and to Bryan in March of 2004. She was previously employed at the Coleman Foundation in Hudson. Irene graduated from Forest High School in Forest, Ohio and was a member of Prattville Community Church and Ladies Aide Society. Surviving Irene are two daughters, Sharon (Phil) Klingler of Bryan, Ohio, and Norma Ferrell of Tipp City, Ohio; one son, James (Joyce) Hamilton of Arlington, Ohio; one brother, Dale E. (Mary Jane) Wright of Pittsburgh, Penn.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin sister, Catherine Burk; one granddaughter; two great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew. Isabel Z. Fellows, 96, of Archbold, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Sept, 29, 2009, in Canton, Mich. She was born March 1, 1913, in Hillsdale County, the daughter of Ernest and Zella (Gleason) Gilbert. She married Ansel L. Fellows on Jan. 26, 1935, in Indianapolis, Ind. and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2000. Isabel was a lifelong Waldron area resident before moving to Archbold in 1995 and then to Canton in 2007. She retired from Spangler Candy Company in Bryan, Ohio, in 1976, with more than 23 years of service. She was a graduate of Waldron High School Class of 1930 and also attended Taylor University in Indiana. She was a member of the  Waldron Wesleyan Church, Women’s Literary Club and taught Sunday School for many years. Isabel enjoyed playing piano, cooking, hooking rugs, embroidery, collecting antiques, especially salt and pepper shakers and toothpick holders. Surviving Isabel are two daughters, Carol (John) Spycher of Adrian, Karla (Henry M.) Walkley of Canton; one son, David Fellows of Evergreen, Colorado, two sisters, Bernice Emens of Waldron and Ilene Slade of Hillsdale; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Everett and Roger Gilbert. Funeral services for Isabel will be 11 a.m.Friday at the Waldron Wesleyan Church with the Rev. John A. Wilson Okemos Born the son of John Allan Wilson and Jeanette Rouselle April 1, 1929; John Allan Wilson died September 30, 2009 at the age of 80. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1950 and from the University of Detroit Law School in 1954. He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan for over 55 years serving honorably as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Michigan for over 24 years and as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Government for over 11 years. He is survived by his wife Carol; son John (Sue) Wilson ; daughters Marianne (Garry) Zimmerman, Patricia Abolt, and Teresa (Joe Sirkovich)Wilson; brother Gerald (Darlene) Wilson; and grandchildren John, Charles, and Carolyn Abolt, John, James, Ellen, Matthew, and Elizabeth Wilson, and Peter and Erik Sirkovich; also by several nieces and nephews. John Howard Rieley, 90, of White Pigeon, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital, LaGrange, Ind. He was born March 8, 1919, in Beaverton, a son of Erastus Clay and Catherine (Patterson) Rieley. He was a resident of the White Pigeon and Union area the past six years, coming from Beaverton and Lake City. He worked as a fruit picker and bee keeper. He was a member of the Vandalia Fellowship Church, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, picking fruit and giving away food to friends. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader and writer. He taught himself to read Hebrew and Greek. Surviving are several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Rieley; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George; and two sisters, Ruth and Delma. Visitation will take place 11 a.m.2- p.m. Wednesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Mr. Rick Brubacher officiating. Burial will follow in Mottville Township Cemetery in Mottville.   |

Judy Kay Wolkins, age 64‚ of White Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at the Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers. She was born in Elkhart, Ind.,  on September 9, 1945, a daughter of Amos and Gladys (Whitehead) Conner. Judy attended Constantine Schools and was a member of the Mottville Bible Church. On Aug. 5, 1966, she married Roger L. Wolkins in Mottville.  Judy had previously worked at Pioneer Hi-Bred and provided home health care. She was an accomplished artist enjoying drawing wild birds and painting. Judy also enjoyed her flower garden, NASCAR , football and discussing politics. Mostly she was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family. Surviving are her husband Roger L. Wolkins of White Pigeon; sons, Roger R. Wolkins of White Pigeon, Paul (Penny) Wolkins of Sturgis and Robert Wolkins of White Pigeon; a sister, Mary Ellen (Ed) Linton of White Pigeon; brothers, Frank (Rose Mary) Conner of Union, Doug (Ann) Conner of Constantine; grandchildren, Justin, Kayla, Deven, Hunter, Adriana, Christian and Brandy; great-grandchildren, Mason, Grayson, Cayden and Kimber; and several nieces and nephews. His Legacy… La Forest “Mike” Beauregard passed away on Sept. 22, 2009, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital at the age of 94. He lived in the Milan area for 64 years until 1979, then moved to Clinton and spent his winters in Venice, Fla., with his wife, Gertrude. He was born on June 20, 1915, in Milan, Mich., the son of Daniel and Winnie. He married Gertrude Lohr on Sept., 21, 1937, in Angola, Ind. Mike was a member of the Masons and Milan Moose Lodge. He was employed at the Ypsilanti State Regional Hospital as an occupational therapist instructor for 35 years.  His Family... He is survived by his long-time, close friend Lenore Binns, daughter Joyce Coleman of Ypsilanti, son-in-law Robert Risch of Whitmore Lake, five grandchildren: Michael Coleman of Ypsilanti, Jeff and Jim Risch of Whitmore Lake, Kim (Erik) Fix of Livonia and Scott Coleman of Ypsilanti, five great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Mary Beth Newsome, 45, of Santiago, Dominican Republic, and previously of Reading, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, in Twin Falls, Idaho in her sister’s home. Born Feb. 17, 1964, in Monroe, she was the daughter of Frederick B. and Mildred G (Hollingsworth) Newsome. She was a 1982 graduate of Jefferson High School in Monroe. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cedarville University and her teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University. She had completed post graduate work in the areas of technology and counseling. Mary was a teacher and a counselor for Santiago Christian School in Santiago, Dominican Republic since 2004. She was advisor for the NHS and MUN. Prior, she taught for Reading High School for 8 years, where she served as the Drama director. Mary was active in her Dominican church, Cien Fuegos, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. In the States, she was a member of the North Reading Baptist Church, where she worked with the drama program, Sunday school, and the youth group. Mary was also a leader at Crossroads Farm. Surviving are her brothers, Dave (Mary) Newsome of Trenton, Ga., Mark (Beth) Newsome of Ooltewah, Tenn. and Paul (Cindy) Newsome of Temperance; sisters, Becky (Bob) Baird of Twin Falls and Deb Newsome of The Gambia, West Africa. Mary M. (Schanzlin) Lietzke Mary M. (Schanzlin) Lietzke was born on October 20, 1913 and died on April 28, 2008 at age 94 in Charlotte, NC. She started a professional career as a registered nurse after graduating from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1934, married Loren C. Lietzke in 1937 having met him at DeWitt Methodist Church where her father was pastor, raised a family at 3880 West Cutler Road in Clinton Co, Michigan and helped run the farm until his death. Preceded in death by her husband and her brother and sisters, she is survived by her children, Richard of Edgewater, Maryland, David of Rutledge, Tennessee, Marilyn of Greer, South Carolina, Alan of El Sobrante, California and Stephen of Charlotte, North Carolina, plus daughters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Following the death of her husband, in 1966 she started a new career that included several years as Merrill Hall Head Resident Advisor at Central Michigan University. She also worked as a teacher's aide volunteer in the Intermediate School District in DeWitt, MI. She also served as Chairperson of the Advisory Board on Tri-County Aging Consortium (Ingham, Eaton & Clinton). She also traveled and took some of her grandchildren on trips. She eventually retired from traveling and volunteer work and took up residence in St. Johns and East Lansing, MI, Greer, SC and Charlotte, NC. Her body was donated to the medical school at Chapel Hill, NC, and the interment of her ashes will be next to her husband at Dewitt Cemetery on October 2, 2009. |

Nelly Jacobs, 64, of Columbia, Tenn., and formerly of Constantine and White Pigeon, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia after a one-year illness. She was born Jan. 6, 1945, in Lede, Belgium, a daughter of Joseph and Irma (DeSmit) D’Haese. She had lived for 17 years in Columbia, Tenn., coming from Constantine. On April 30, 1966, she married Larry C. Jacobs in White Pigeon. She worked in trailer factories and at General Motors as an inspector. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon. She enjoyed collecting dolls, Hummel figurines, fishing, horses, reading and spending time with her family. Surviving are her husband, Larry C. Jacobs of Columbia, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Brooke Ashley Jacobs of Elkhart, Ind., and Zachery Scott Jacobs of Union; a great-grandson, Landon Jacobs; two sisters, Maria D’Haese of Sturgis and Marie (Ted) Hillard of White Pigeon; a brother, Frank D’Haese of Three Rivers; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roger D’Haese; and a son, Scotty Douglas Jacobs on June 14, 2008. Visitation will take place 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon, with the Rev. Paula Jane “Polly” Davidson, age 57, of Adrian went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, the 27th of September 2009, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born to Charles Carr and Flossie Smith on June 30, 1952, at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark. She married Cleveland Lavern Davidson on July 18, 1975. Polly loved going to church at the Salvation Army and reading her Bible. She also loved going shopping and crocheting. Polly enjoyed spending time with all of her wonderful family, friends and her precious grandchildren, Krystina, Kaleena, Tavia, Jacob, Gabe, Maddie “Rylee,” Deuce, Haylee and Deacon. Polly was also a certified Nurse’s Assistant. Polly is survived by her husband, Cleve; her children, Hazel “Pebbles” Tribble and Walt Reams of Bono, Ark., Christopher and Justine Davidson of Adrian, Timothy and Kari Davidson of Tipton, and Anthony Davidson of Adrian. She is also survived by her mother, Flossie Smith; brothers, Eddie, Billy and David; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Robert W. Cilley, 42, of Manitou Beach, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He was born Nov. 17, 1966 in Adrian to George and Cheryl (Mickel) Cilley. He married Christine D. Kreps June 5, 1997 in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. Robert lived in the Addison-Manitou Beach area all his life. He graduated from Addison High School in 1984. He was a veteran in the United States Navy from 1986-1988 aboard the U.S.S. Kalamazoo. He was formerly employed at Dow Automotive in Hillsdale and then employed at Honeytree Inc. in Onsted. He loved working on cars and was a collector of Spider-Man comic memorabilia. Surviving besides his wife Christine are one son, Scott G. Mock of Manitou Beach; two daughters, Caitlin Kreps of Morenci, Courtney Boobyer of Simi Valley, Calif.; four sisters, Christina (Ray) Marquis of Cement City, Cynthia (Victor) Fowler of Rollin, Debra (Brad) Collins of Adrian, Rebalee (Jamie) Daglow of Albion; eight nephews and nieces; and several great-nephews and nieces. Susan Webber Delta Township Susan Webber, beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away September 29, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Susan was a kind and generous person who lived life to its fullest. Even as she endured the greatest struggle of her life, Susan never gave up and was a source of strength and inspiration to others. With her loving husband, Philip always by her side, Susan left this world with dignity and grace. Susan was born February 14, 1951 in Owosso, Michigan. She worked for the State of Michigan for over 30 years with dedication and distinction. During her years with the State, Susan also formed many lasting friendships. Susan was preceded in death by her mother Loretta Button, and mother-in-law and father-in-law May and Andy Webber; she is survived by her devoted husband Philip; brothers Rick (Jill) DeLong and Rex Button III; sisters Priscilla Button and Jodi Fritz; sister-in-law Patricia (Gary) Thomas; several nieces and nephews and her beloved cats Katie and Sherman. Arrangements by Tiffany Funeral Home. A memorial service will be celebrated at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society or the American Cancer Society . A special thanks is extended to Sparrow Hospital, all of the hospice caregivers, and Susan's special friend Adele Arnold. Thomas “Tom” T. Parker, 66, of Quincy, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at his home. He was born May 14, 1943, in Coldwater to Dale and Maxine (Blotter) Parker, they preceded him in death. He married Joyce (Pierson) Sept. 14, 1964 at Angola, Ind. she survives. Parker retired as a heavy equipment operator and repairman from Merritt Sand & Gravel, Angola, Ind.  He also worked for several other companies: Dan Blaskie Welding, Coldwater; Aggregates, Coldwater; Mike Klink Sand & Gravel, Angola, Ind; and Richard Klink Sand & Gravel, Angola, Ind. He also was an owner of the Parkers General Store, Coldwater from 1979 until 1984, and was self-employed with T Parker Excavating. He was a 1961 graduate of Coldwater High School. He was a member of the Angola Moose Lodge since 1974, and a member of the Coldwater Eagles Lodge since 1972. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed mushroom hunting, camping and NASCAR. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Parker of Quincy; daughter, Kim (Marc) Scott of Quincy; son, Dennis  (Arlene) Parker of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Tyler Parker of Hillsdale, Derek and Stacie Parker of Quincy, Kelly and Zachery Brewster of West Virginia, Lacy and Bryan Antvelink of Grand Rapids, Greg Parker of Quincy, Erik and Casey Parker of Quincy, Devin Scott of Litchfield, Kirstin Scott of Quincy; six great-grandchildren, Trevyn Parker, Preston Parker, Ada Parker, Allison Parker, Wyat Brewster and Addalyn Antvelink; and two sisters, Mary (Harold) Jensen of Quincy, Betty Henderson of Montgomery. Tony Marazita, age 79 of Sturgis, went to be with his savior Sunday evening Sept. 27, 2009, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred Sept. 11. He was born Nov. 1, 1929 in Niles, a son of the late Frank and Josephine (Tignanelli) Marazita. Tony had resided in Sturgis since 1954, coming from Niles, where he graduated from Niles High School with the class of 1948. On April 23, 1955, he married Delphine Zielinski at the St. Casmir’s Catholic Church in South Bend, Ind. Following his graduation from high school Tony worked for his father’s business the Michigan Fruit Company. He went on to work at the Bendix Corporation in South Bend before serving his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After receiving his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army he returned to the South Bend area and rejoined the Bendix Corporation. In 1954, he established and opened the Mara Sweet Shop in Sturgis. Tony was involved in sales for many years including travel trailer sales, which led to his love of travel. He was also the founder of the Marazita Candy Company. Tony will be fondly remembered by many patrons of the Mara Sweet Shop and his many years of community service such as the Easter Egg Hunt at Oak Lawn Terrace Park. He was a faithful member Holy Angels Catholic Church where for many years he served daily Mass. He was devoted to the Blessed Mother and St. Anthony. Tony was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2508 and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He also held memberships in the National confectioners Association and Neuman-Wenzel Post #72 American Legion. He was one of the University of Notre Dames biggest fans. Tony enjoyed his “Tuesday Card Club” and joking with his buddy, John Marshall. One pride and joy for Tony was his grandchildren, with whom he spent many hours sharing stories of his life growing up. Most of all he will be remembered for his love and support of all things St. Jude. He will be missed not only by his family but by many community members of whose lives he had touched through the years. Even in the past two weeks, his only concern was his beloved Delphine and family. A tribute to her grandfather from granddaughter, Dominique Beach, “The Italian Stallion”: 9/11 will always hold a different meaning for my family and me. My hero almost died when a cement truck hit him. He was airlifted to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, fighting for his life. He has two broken legs, four broken ribs, a broken neck at the C-2 vertebra, many cuts, contusions, a head laceration, and is bruised from his head to his toes. My hero is my 79 year old papa Tony Marazita. He grew up one of 11 children. He faced many tragedies in the first 20 years of his life. The first was the death of his 2-year-old sister Mary playing with matches in the closet. Then his 15-year-old brother Dominick died shortly after of diabetes. Despite all these heartaches his family remained loving, strong and religious. In his early 20s he enlisted in the army. His father an Italian immigrant loved the U.S. and told his sons that it was their duty to fight and protect the country that has given them so much. He fought and was wounded in the Korean War. It was a time in his life when he lost many friends. He still can’t watch a war movie without getting emotional. When he returned to the U.S. he had dreams to go to college and become a lawyer. His father had different ideas and being the loyal son he respected his father’s wishes. He moved to Sturgis in 1954 and opened a business called Mara Sweet Shop. It was a place where teens could gather; listen to music, dance and play pinball machines in a safe, friendly environment. People still tell him how they appreciated the memories of their days in the sweet shop. Being with my papa has allowed my brother, sister and me to learn his principles, wisdom, love of family, and his dedication to God. I’ll always cherish every morning of the school year, because he picked me up and took me to school. Before I got out of the car he’d say “who loves you the most?” I would say “God, Jesus, Mary, Holy Spirit, my mom and dad and nana and papa. This time together allowed me to see and appreciate how special he is. He was always with us through the good and the bad. If I was having a bad day he’d always be able to put a smile right back on my face and lift my spirits up. The wisdom we’ve all received by being with him, his thoughts on life and his stories have been an enjoyment. My papa would put others’ needs before his own, would do anything for the people he loves, and has touched more lives then he realizes. Papa said “Everyone is a blessing sent from God. Follow your dreams, and never give up on anyone or anything. Don’t let yourself down or others, but to just give it your best shot and go for it.” My blessing in life is my Italian Stallion or you could say my handsome stud muffin grandpa and I’m his bambino. (My papa died 9/27 at 8:02 pm. He fought a long hard battle and is now in peace. I Love you and Miss you Papa “forever and a day” always.) He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 55 years, Delphine; four daughters, Cathy (Rick) Beach of Sturgis, Tamie (Larry) Baccoli of Rodney, Dawn (Richard) Russell of Milan and Tina (Lon) Morency of Sturgis; seven grandchildren, Andrea Russell of Oscoda, Paul Beach of Lansing, Christopher Russell of Milan, Alexandra Beach of Albion, Chantalle Morency of Kalamazoo, Connor Morency of Sturgis and Dominique Beach of Sturgis, one sister, Virginia Marazita of Niles; two brothers, Phil (Ellie) Marazita of Lansing and Warren (Mary) Marazita of Niles; sisters-in-law Kathleen Marazita of Buchanan and Irene Marazita of Niles; and many nieces and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary; and six brothers, Joseph, Paul, Ernie, Dominick, John and Albert. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 402 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.  The funeral Mass celebrating the life of Tony Marazita will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.  The Rev. Father Richard Altine will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the Mass at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis, where full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. She married Leslie Rogers on May 28, 1936 in Auburn, Ind. He preceded her in death in 1984. Verna worked at Progressive Dynamics until retirement. She was a member of the foster grandparents program. She is survived by her children: Virginia King of Tekonsha, L. G. Rogers of Burlington, Judy Rogers of Riceville, Tenn., Bessie Krieg of Union City, eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a half brother. Graveside services will be Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at at 11 a.m. at the Windfall Cemetery in Tekonsha Township with Pastor Dan Wheeler officiating. Violet May Steinman, age 87, of Monroe, formerly of Maybee, died Sept. 26, 2009, at Medilodge of Monroe. Born May 8, 1922, in Stras­burg, Mich., she was the daughter of William and Clara (Lerch) Diroff. Violet married Douglas S. Steinman Sept. 14, 1946. Sadly he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1984. She was a bookkeeper for Biniecki Brothers Grain Elevator in Maybee for several years. Violet also worked at Mueller’s Fertilizer Plant in Britton. Violet had been a member of St. Irene Catholic Church in Dundee and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee. Violet is survived by her children, Douglas (Diane) Steinman of Dundee and Karen Goheen of Farmington. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Jeremy (Amy) Steinman and Jill (Todd) Federer as well as four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Violet was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Liedel Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 9061 Raisin St., Maybee, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday. She will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until mass at 11:30 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maybee. Fr. Rich Luberti will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Maybee. Willard (Bill) F. Bazuin, age 83, of Holland, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at Holland Hospital. Born in Holland, Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked in sales most of his life, most recently as manager for Bazuin Insulation, his family's business. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Zoet Bazuin in 2001. He is survived by his children, Laura and Larry Sterkenburg,  Gina and Dave De Santis, Greg Bazuin all of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Frens of Holland; brother, Robert Bazuin of Ignace, Ontario,Canada; sisters-in-law, Janie Bazuin of Illinois and June De Haan of Grand Rapids; brothers-in-law, Gene Zoet  and Roger Cole both of Holland. Wilma M. Moore, age 76, of Clinton died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born March 23, 1933, in Clinton, the daughter of Clarence and Doris (Socks) Wiedmayer. She was married to James Moore on June 30, 1951, and he survives. Wilma bowled for many years in the Clinton area and was Past President of her league. She enjoyed playing Bunco, sewing, reading, and admiring the beauty of flowers. Wilma was the Office Manager for her sons’ horse and livestock businesses. Her greatest joy was her family and grandchildren. She loved babysitting for many families in the area. Wilma was an avid fan of her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ sporting events. In addition to her husband, James, Wilma is survived by two sons, Tom Moore of Onsted and Tim Moore of Brooklyn; two daughters, Vicki (Jim) Woodward of Ankeny, Iowa, and Lisa (Vic) Brown of Clinton; one sister, Judy (Dan) Semark of Clinton and their daughter, Mindy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Margaret and Roger Brooks of Manchester and their sons, Doug and Dale; nine grandchildren, Travis Moore, Reegan Watson, Lindsay Moore, Chelsea Moore, Kristin Neuroth, Shannon Heller, Sadie Brown, Cody Brown and Paige Moore; and eight great-grandchildren. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. At her request cremation has taken place. A Gathering will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at St. James United Church of Christ, on U.S. 12 in Saline, with Pastor David Bucholtz officiating. There will be visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial of her cremated remains will follow in the church cemetery. Wilma Maxine Gilbert, 91, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at her home. She was born July 27, 1918, in Liberty Township, to Homer and Civilla (Lake) Adams. She was married Jan. 29, 1938, to Melvin F. Gilbert and he preceded her in death Aug. 23, 2008. Surviving are two sons, James (Alice) Walwarth of Jackson and Melvin (Sally) Gilbert Jr. of Hawkinsville, Georgia; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Wilma Gilbert will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at Aldrich Cemetery, Somerset with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating.
