ALBERT L. MCCOON MARLETTE Albert L. McCoon passed away peacefully among family and friends Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Marlette Hospice House. He was born August 18, 1929 in Fairgrove, son to the late James B. and Edith (Sangster) McCoon, and lived in Marlette since early childhood. He was a life-long resident of Tuscola County. He married Naomi Crisan on his birthday, August 18, 1951 in Bad Axe and they raised five wonderful children. They owned and operated a dairy farm in the Marlette area and were members of the Tuscola County Retarded Children's Association. He drove bus for Marlette Schools for over 30 years and also drove for the Marlette Athletic teams for most of that time. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his sons; Robert McCoon of Davie, Florida, Donnie McCoon of Marlette and Allen McCoon of Marlette, daughter; Deborah (Don) Bonwell of Rogers, Arkansas, grandchildren; Chase and Kendra Bonwell of Rogers, Arkansas and Tony Bonwell of Warren, Michigan, sisters; Linda Gomes of Marlette, Carole Dalrymple of Flint, Sister-in-law; Johanna McCoon of Marlette and many special nieces and nephews. Albert was preceded in death in October by his wife of 57 years, Naomi his daughter; Janet, his parents, his brothers; Robert and Jack McCoon and sister Joyce Cook. ARDATH E. MALTBY MARLETTE Ardath E. Maltby, age 96, of Marlette, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Marlette Extended Care Facility in Marlette. Mrs. Maltby lived in Marlette with her daughter Joan and was previously from the Flint area. She was born August 12, 1912 in Reed City, daughter to the late Louis and Betsy (McLachlan) McDonald. She married John McKay in 1935 who was an instructor at GMI for 20 years, he died in 1967. She then married Earl Maltby in 1974. He was a CPA at Dupuis & Ryden for 35 years and he died in 1993. Ardath was an elementary principal in the Flint School District for 29 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Michigan Retired School Personnel and Community Presbyterian Church in Flint. She enjoyed reading , gardening and most of all, her family. She is survived by her daughter; Joan Jensen of Marlette, son; Charles (Sandra) McKay of Swartz Creek, brother; Eldon (Elayne) McDonald of Kaleva, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Donald McDonald and sisters; Katherine Williams and Alta Shore. Ardath had a beautiful Christian life, full of sunshine and cheer, dispensing comfort and consolation wherever she went. She will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know her. Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Marlette First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Chris Wolf officiating. Barbara “Bobbie”A. Lindower, age 81, of Holland, died Friday, December 26, 2008, at the Resthaven Care Center.  She was born February 16, 1927 in Fostoria, Ohio, to Olin and Nellie (Snyder) Fruth and came to Holland in 1965.  Bobbie attended Bowling Green University and was an elementary school teacher in Ohio.  She married Lester L. Lindower in 1946. Carmen H. Wild, 94, of Adrian, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. She was born in Clinton, Mich., on Dec. 10, 1914, to Charles H. and Nellie J. (Embler) Fabrique. On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Harold F. Wild in Clinton. Harold preceded her in death in 1990. She was a 50-year member of the Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and participated in the Ladies Association and Fellowship, and the sewing group for Healthy Babies and Happy Mothers. Carmen was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, and a member of Zonta as well as belonging to the ladies clubs at the Elks, Moose and Eagles. Carmen ran her own business, “Carmen Ceramics,” where she taught many people the art of ceramics. She loved her many dogs, especially Inka. She and Harold enjoyed many years at their home in Traverse City. Carmen is survived by her two children, Sondra L. (Larry) Carnahan of Onsted, and Charles F. (Dee Ann) Wild of Pinckney; her seven grandchildren, Shawn (Rose) Carnahan, Renee (Paul) Stewart, Kim (Mel) Herbert, Nathan (Lisa) Wild, Melissa Wild, Matthew Wild, and Megan Wild. Also surviving are her six great-grandchildren, Kellie Carnahan and Elizabeth Bell, Amy and James Stewart, Ella and Reese Wild, two step-great-grandchildren, Cody and Shawna Herbert, three step-great-great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Leo (Barb) Wild and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Carmen was preceded in death by a sister, a step-sister, and four step-brothers. Funeral services for Carmen will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Wagley Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Oxtoby officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian. Carol graduated from L’Anse Cruese High School in Mount Clemens and earned a Masters Degree in Education at Western Michigan University. She belonged to St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale and was actively involved in 4-H and the Reading High School Band Boosters. Her hobbies included quilting and photography. She is survived by her husband, Martin Miller, whom she married May 27, 1977; two daughters, Dr. Danielle Miller of Lansing, Ceola Miller of Allen; one brother, Philip Trinity of Columbus, Ohio; and one grandson, Xavier Guild. Her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Father Ioane Sigarara officiating. Edith V. Ryan, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.  She was born Sept. 8, 1923 in Reading to Olin and Vera (Fisher) Foulk.  She was married July 15, 1945, to Rex C. Ryan and he survives. Edith was a 1940 graduate of Reading High School, she received a bachelor’s degree in 1945 from Michigan State Normal School (Eastern Michigan University) and her master’s degree from Michigan State University.  She taught for 23 years in Reading schools, for three years in Jonesville schools and coached girls basketball in Jonesville.  Edith was a member of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, Farm Bureau, the Retired Teachers Association and was a 4-H Leader. Besides her husband Rex, she is survived by a daughter, Susan (Jerald) Belding of Jonesville; three sisters, Donna (Bernard) Reed of North Adams, Lorene (Burton) Ladd of Litchfield and Cleo (Glen) Wallace of Hillsdale; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Reynolds Foulk of Hillsdale, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Patricia VanCamp and a brother, Doug Foulk. Ethel Jane Nash, 65, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.  She was born Sept. 18, 1943 in Quincy, Ill., to Harry Neal and Hazel Anita (White) Sherrick.  She was married to George William “Bill” Nash on July 27, 1963 in Bowen, Ill.  He passed away Aug. 21, 2008. Jane was the co-owner and operator of Nash Hallmark, Jill’s Office Supply and Nash Drugs. She was a 1963 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend and businesswoman. In 1994, she won the Athena Award, an award recognizing women for professional excellence. In addition, she was the Hillsdale Hospice Board Chairperson, United Methodist Church member and chair of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, member of the Hillsdale College Women’s Commissioners, former member of Jaycees and American Association of University Women.  She served many years as room mother for her two sons. Surviving  are two sons, Bill (Stephanie) Nash of Naperville, Ill., and Brad (Kerri) Nash of Hillsdale; four grandsons, Alex, Andy, Coby and Sam; one sister and brother-in-law, Sandra (David) Schuldt of Iowa City; and one brother and sister-in-law,, John (Brenda) Sherrick of Bettendorf, Iowa; three nieces, Lisa (Bob) Barleen, Michelle (Will) Adcock and Andrea Sherrick; and one nephew, Brian (Kelly) Sherrick and three grandnephews. Flossie W. Malovey, age 94, of Bronson, died early Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2008 at Country Meadows Adult Foster Care Home in Montgomery, Michigan. She had been in failing health. Flossie was born March 13, 1914 in Bronson, daughter of Frank and Helen (Smoker) Herman and was a lifelong Bronson resident. She married Leonard Malovey on September 29, 1934 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bronson. Leonard died in 1974. Flossie first worked for ten years at the former Bronson Reel Company. She then took time off to raise her children. She then went to work at the former Bronson Hunsicker’s Motel. She was the manager of the former Heffner’s Five Cent to One Dollar store in Bronson for 20 years, then at Barr’s Five Cent to One Dollar store in Coldwater for six years before she retired. Surviving are her daughters Virginia Ernsberger of Coldwater and Beverly and Alan “Butch” Weaver of Bronson; grandchildren Melissa (Kent) Stoneburner of Wheaton, Ill., Marchelle Rzepka of Lansing, Mark Weaver of Lansing and Cheryl (Tom) Back of Union City; six great grandchildren; her sisters Mamie Powell in Arizona and Elberta Kolassa of Bronson and her nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Flossie Malovey will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard A. Frances “Fran” John, 99, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon Dec. 30, 2008, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born Jan. 24, 1909, in Chicago, a daughter to the late August and Martha (Tessner) Schlage. Fran had resided in Sturgis since 1945 coming from Chicago. On July 2, 1927, she married Richard John in Chicago. He died Dec. 4, 1983. She had been employed as a switchboard operator for the Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 16 years retiring in 1971. Fran had attended Chicago public schools and she was an active member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sturgis. Fran enjoyed volunteering her time with the Lutheran Ladies Mission Circle and the Sturgis Hospital Guild. She is survived by five grandchildren, Doug (Cathy) Hopkins of Sturgis, Bruce Hopkins of Sturgis, Gwen (Bob) Kryder of Colon, Sue Donaldson of Sturgis and David Hopkins of Sturgis; 11 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, one daughter; Lois Kreitzer, two brothers; Edward Schlage and August Schlage and two sisters; Clara Sickinger and Jean Cauwels preceded her in death. Francile (Baer) McGee, age 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2008, at her home in Texas. She was born and raised in Sturgis, Mich., graduating from Sturgis High School with the Class of 1937. She was a daughter to the late Clarence and Bessie Baer of Sturgis. Surviving are two daughters and two sons in Texas, Michael (Jeanne) McGee of Katy, Douglas (Kitty) McGee and Janet Dauer of San Antonio and Kathy (Ray) Garcia of San Antonio; two sisters, Janet (Baer) Thorna of Manlius, New York, and Lois (Dick) Runyan of Sturgis; and a number of grandchildren in Texas. SASSAMAN, Franklin W., M.D. Of Kalamazoo Dr. Franklin W. Sassaman, III, died Sunday evening, December 28, 2008, at his home. Frank was born September 29, 1937, in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Rebecca N. (Elles) and Franklin W. Sassaman, Jr. He was a graduate of Charlotte High School, attended Albion College from 1955-58, University of Michigan Medical School from 1958-62, served an internship at University of Maryland-Baltimore from 1962-63, served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps from 1963-65, and returned to University of Michigan for his Masters of Ophthalmology. He came to Kalamazoo in 1968 and began his Ophthalmology practice with Marshall & Sassaman, PC. He then established Sassaman Singer Eye Center, PC and after 40 devoted years of practice, retired in 2008. His professional affiliations included Michigan Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmologists, Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine and the American Medical Association. Frank had a tremendous joy for life and passion for serving his patients and the community at large. All who knew him were touched by his sense of humor and kindness. He loved art and was a member and served as President of the Board of the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. He enjoyed classical music and served on the Board of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. He enjoyed golfing and was a member and served on the Board of the Kalamazoo Country Club. Frank also enjoyed snow skiing, jogging and traveling. On March 10, 1990, Frank was united in marriage to Marilyn (Crowley) LaBelle, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Margaret "Meg" Sassaman of Seattle, WA, Tyler Sassaman of Minneapolis, MN and Julianna Sassaman of San Francisco, CA; step-children, Renee LaBelle of Scottsdale, AZ, Kristin LaBelle and husband Ben Humphrey of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Alicia LaBelle and husband Jeff Klinger of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren, Noah, Quinn, Georgia and Max Humphrey, Kennerly and Cosette Klinger; his mother, Rebecca Sassaman of Gun Lake; brother and sisters, David (Josie) Sassaman of Gun Lake, Julie (Richard) Humphrey of Denver, CO, Margie (Kenneth) VanderVelde of Kalamazoo and Carey (Brad) Spotts of Sarasota, FL; nieces and nephews, Eric (Loretta) Sassaman, Joe (Cindy) Sassaman, Doug Sassaman, Brooke (Kristi) Humphrey, Scott Humphrey, Matt (Irina) Humphrey, Annie (Scott) Bruene and Betsy VanderVelde. Garth married Dorene Burgett on February 23, 1985 in Ruby, Michigan. He was a District Manager for K-Mart for many years. He also worked at the Port Huron Times Herald and then at Eagle Window & Doors in Lewiston, MI. He is survived by his wife Dorene, daughter; Dianna Enders of South Carolina, son; Daniel Enders of Texas, stepsons; Todd Hurlburt of Algonac, Phil Hurlburt of St. Clair, Steven Hurlburt of Adrian, stepdaughter; ReaAnn Ready of Birch Run and8 grandchildren. George R. Meinke, age 91, of Adrian died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. He was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Wauwatosa, Wis., to John A. and Freida A. (Piske) Meinke. On April 26, 1946, he married Eleanor Gartman. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2007. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. George had been employed by Uarco. He had been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was actively involved in the church’s tape ministry to the shut-in members. He was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator and an active member of the Adrian Amateur Radio Club. He enjoyed constructing his own radio equipment and working on projects around the house.  George is survived by three sons, Roger Meinke and his wife, Pamela, of Adrian, Thomas Meinke and his wife, Evelyn, of Blissfield and Michael Meinke of Jasper; a sister-in-law, Virginia Meinke of Denham Springs, La.; four grandchildren, Christine Meinke of Portland, Ore., and Brian Meinke of Adrian, Traver Meinke of Blissfield and Jeffrey Peterson of Manitou Beach. In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, Steven, Jennifer and Gregory Meinke, and a brother, Arthur Meinke. Gloria N. Mann, 80, of Mottville Township, Mich., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at her home. She was born in Bagley, Wis., on Sept. 29, 1928,  a daughter of Adolph and Margaret (Belson) Horn. Gloria graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1946. After meeting Kenneth Mann on a blind date, they were later married on June 26, 1948, in the Mottville Bible Church. Gloria worked for Avon for over 30 years, where she was a member of the Avon President's Club and retired in 1996. She was also a member of  the American Legions Women's Auxiliary and Trinity Missionary Church where she was a youth group leader. Gloria was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She will be especially missed for her notes of love and encouragement. Surviving Gloria are: her husband, Kenneth of Mottville; daughter,  Melanie Mann of Sturgis; sons, Randy (Cindy) Mann of White Pigeon and David (Peggy) Mann of Constantine; and five grandchildren, Branden Mann, Benjamin Mann, Shea Hawley, Colin Hawley and Joshua Mann. Helen Virginia Smith, age 81, died on December 28, 2008, at Holland Hospital. She was born to Phebe and David Kaylor on May 22, 1927 in Allegan, MI. She married Walter Ellsworth Smith Sr. who preceded her in death; as well as her sons, Frederick Smith, Donald Smith Sr., Brett D’Wayne Smith Sr.; a daughter, Virginia Christine “Ginger” Smith; a sister, Rosa Dunklee; and a brother, David Kaylor. She is survived by her sons, Edward (Dee) Smith, Walter E. “Bugs” (Mary Ann) Smith, Jr.; her daughters, Charlene (Donald) Bray, Carol Christie, Gail (Dennis) Christie, Sylvia “Buffy” Keener, Pamela (Leo) Beach, Cindy (Jose) Esquivel; a daughter-in-law, Margaret (Donald) Smith; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Oakley Kaylor; a sister, Rebecca Dalrymple; as well as several friends and relatives. She lived in the Allegan-Fennville area all her life. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, flowers, people and life. She loved having company and entertaining. Helen was a former member of the Bravo Christian Reformed Church and a member of the VFW of Fennville. She always had a warm welcome, a cup of coffee, and a fresh, warm piece of pie for everyone who came to visit. She will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. JOSEPH D. BULONE PORT SANILAC Joseph D. Bulone, age 86, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at home in his own bed surrounded by the love of his children and their spouses. He was born November 15, 1922 in Cleveland Ohio, son of the late Domenico and Domenica DiDomenico Bulone. He married Frances E. Hendricks on June 14, 1952 in Birmingham. She died December 20, 1999. Joseph served in the Pacific Theatre in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He worked on the design staff at the G.M. Tech Center and he was a founding member of the Port Sanilac Fine Arts Association. Joe was one of the most prolific and respected professional painters and sculptors in southeastern Michigan. His 60 year career, which included many Best of Show awards earned well into his 80's, brought him recognition as one of the finest landscape and seascape artists of his time. His favorite subjects were Lake Huron sunrises and the Port Sanilac lighthouse. In his leisure time he was a Detroit Tigers fan and never gave up on the Lions. He enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens and his homemade meatloaf was legendary. Surviving are his children; Vincent M. of Oak Park, Daniel J. of Memphis, TN, Cathi (Bryan) Bulone-Campbell of Port Sanilac, Helen M. He was a member of the Elkhart Moose, he was an avid photographer and enjoyed cross country skiing, NASCAR, and was greatly interested in the lighthouses of the Great Lakes. Jim worked for General Motors for 44 years, before retiring. He also served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1966-68. Jeanne V. Burns Metamora Jeanne V. Burns, age 99, of Metamora, (formerly of Rochester and Huntington Woods) passed away Thursday (December 25, 2008). She was born June 12, 1909 in Detroit, Michigan to Charles and Louise (Bartsch) Beaudriau. Jeanne married Joseph Charles Burns on December 6, 1941 in Napolean, OH. Jeanne was a past president and secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary (Homer Wing Post 172) and a charter member of the Metamora Historical Society. In her early years she was an entertainer, singing for the original Red Apple Club on Detroit radio station WJR and with famous bands of that period. Her family settled in Michigan in 1820. John Takacs, age 102, of Mendon, died Monday Dec. 29, 2008, at Tendercare Portage following a long illness.  John was born in Hungary on Aug. 12, 1906.  He lived in Chicago as a young man.  It was there he married Ann Ghisolf on May 5, 1935.  Soon after their marriage, John and Ann moved to a farm in Mendon Township. In addition to farming, John was employed as an upholsterer, first at Royal Easy Chair then at Paramount Furniture Company, both located in Sturgis. John is survived by his daughter, Jean Takacs of Mendon and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose, and by his wife, Ann.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon with Rev. Kathleen Ahlgrim, age 88, of Charlotte, Mich., and formerly of Cadillac, Mich., passed away Monday Dec. 29, 2008, at Moore’s Adult Foster Care in Charlotte. She was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Mendon Twp., Mich., a daughter to the late Clifford and Vera (Bennett) Happel.  Kathleen was raised on a farm near Burr Oak, Mich. and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1939. On Dec. 22, 1946, in Burr Oak, she married Herbert Ahlgrim and 12 years later they moved to Cadillac where they resided until he passed away in 2005. While living in Burr Oak, she had been employed for the First National Bank and while in Cadillac she was a homemaker.  Kathleen enjoyed to sew. Surviving are one son, Lynn H. (Janne) Ahlgrim of Charlotte; two grandsons, Eric L. (Heather) Ahlgrim of Burr Oak, and Kurt R. Ahlgrim of Melbourn, Fla.; a great-grandson, Karl E. Ahlgrim; a sister, Lovada Pagels of Burr Oak, and a brother, Lee Happel of Sturgis. She was preceded in death by her parents; Herbert, her husband of 58 years, and one brother, Vern Happel. Kathryn A. Wassman 1950-2008 Kathryn A. Wassman, 58, Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008 at her home in Harbor Beach, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Mt. Clemens on October 22, 1950, the daughter of the late Alois and Shirley (Yax) Cukr. Kathy and Doug Wassman were united in marriage on June 6, 1970 in Mt. Clemens. She was an employee of Chemical Bank in Harbor Beach and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. Kathy enjoyed scrap booking, gardening and spending time with her family. To all who knew her, she was a beautiful person, both inside and out, and she will be sadly missed. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Wassman, Harbor Beach; a son, Cameron (Susan) Wassman, Mt. Kurt enjoyed working with horses, working with his hands, especially building dog houses and rabbit hunting when he had time. Lee Andrrew Hooley, age 96, of Sturgis, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 29, 2008, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born Oct. 10, 1912, in LaGrange County, Ind., a son of the late Henry and Amy (Yoder) Hooley. On Aug. 14, 1937, he married Velda Pletcher in Middlebury, Ind. They lived in Shipshewana, Ind., where he farmed and worked for Nelson Motor Sales in LaGrange. In 1961 they moved to Centreville where he owned and operated Hooley Ford Tractor Sales from 1959-1968. Lee retired from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department in 1980. In 1984 they moved to Sturgis. He was a member of the Sturgis Evangelical Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ronald (Kathy) Hooley of Kasson, Minn., and Donald (JoDee) Hooley of Sturgis; two daughters, Norma (Arnold) Otto of Gridley, Ill., and Janet (Carl) Kinzer of Eureka, Ill.; a foster daughter, Janice Straubel of Kalamazoo; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Stutzman of LaGrange, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Goldie Hooley of LaGrange; and many nieces and nephews. Mary A. Bauschka, age 92, of Adrian passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Grand Court. Mary was born on July 29, 1916, in Jonesville, Mich., the daughter of Sam and Rose (DeLuca) Fabiano. On July 5, 1941, Mary married Gordon Bauschka in Wauseon, Ohio. Gordon, her husband of more than 67 years, preceded her in death in 2007.  Mary loved her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often helped with Bingo at the UAW. Mary liked to watch TV, and her favorite show was “Walker, Texas Ranger.” She also loved to go shopping. Mary enjoyed traveling to Spain, Morocco and Ireland as well as within the United States.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Surviving Mary are her children, Gordon (Maureen) Bauschka of Pensacola, Fla., and Sandra (Lewis) Keller of Jasper; two grandchildren, Linda (John) Stier and Jennifer (Aeron) Baker; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathon Stier, Korinne and Chase Baker. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Josephine Muzillo, Nellie Coscarelli, Eva DeRose and Sarah Suydam; and three brothers, Victor, Albert and Paul Fabiano. The Funeral Mass for Mary will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father David Hudgins presiding. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian. Friends may visit Mary’s family at Wagley Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to Hospice of Lenawee. Mary Frances Brown, 87, of Camden, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 in Archbold, Ohio. She owned and operated the Stylette Beauty Shop near Camden for more than 35 years. She was a member of Lake View United Methodist Church at Camden. She was preceded in death by her husband James Lynwood Brown; one great-grandson; brothers, Gloyd, Clair, Donald and Rex Vernier; sisters, Gladys Tressler, Lois Pettit, Doris Hershiser and Velma Rediger. She is survived by daughter Lynette (Robert) Tom of Montpelier, Ohio; son, Larry “Doc” (Sheryl) Brown of Camden; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Stephen Fillion, pastor of the St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, officiated. NELSON L. DUNLAP DECKERVILLE Nelson L. Dunlap, age 93, of Deckerville, died Tuesday December 23, 2008 in Autumnwood of Deckerville. He was born August 20, 1915 in Palms, the son of the late Andrew and Wilhelmina (Lietke) Dunlap. He married Miss. Evelyn Baumeister on April 15, 1944 in Deckerville, after 62 years of marriage she preceded him in death on April 18, 2006 Nelson was a member of the VFW and American Legion, Gideon's International, a past Boy Scout Explorer Leader, and was active in 4H and a long time member of the 1st Baptist Church. He was employed by Eaton Mfg, before entering the US Army, which he served from 1941 to 1945, in North Africa, Italy, and Sicily, earning a Silver Star. After WWII he worked for the Kroger Grocery Stores. He then learned the carpenter trade from Lee Vincent, and later started Dunlap Builders, where he was a noted home builder and cabinet maker. He is survived by one son Richard (Karen) Dunlap of Deckerville, two daughters, Gaye (Steve) Bauer of Faribault, MN., and Karen (Joe) Allen of Sandusky, ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Also, three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marion (Stanley) Dunlap, Mrs. Florence (Floyd) Baumeister, and Mrs. Carol (Don) Baumeister. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy, five brothers and three sisters Nelson L. Dunlap's "Legacy of Life" service will be 11:00 AM., Saturday in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. April 22, 1923-Dec. 29, 2008 Richard A. Kuster, 85, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., a former long-time resident of Adrian, Mich., passed away on Dec. 29, 2008, at Stratford Court in Palm Harbor, Fla. Richard was born in Adrian, Mich., on April 22, 1923, the son of Katherine and Earnest Kuster. He married Phyllis Jurden of Clayton, Mich., in 1946 and they were married for 33 years. She preceded him in death in 1979. In 1980 he married Gladys Boulanger from Chatham, N.J., and they were married for 23 years, as she preceded him in death in 2003. Richard lived in both the Adrian and Devils Lake communities from birth until 1983, when he and his wife, Gladys, moved permanently to the 1200 Club on Atlantic Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale, where Richard resided until shortly after Thanksgiving 2008. He was then transferred to Stratford Court in Palm Harbor, Fla., for convalescing after a serious fall and injury, which occurred in his home. Richard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific from 1941-1945. Shortly after returning from the war, he joined his father in the family business, Maple City Granite Company. In 1960 he purchased Maple City Granite outright from his father when Earnest retired. A few years later he expanded the business operations to Monroe, Mich., where he purchased Eichbauer Monument Co. and then renamed it Eichbauer-Kuster Monument Co. He sold the business in 1979 when he retired. Richard was also a 32nd Degree Mason, lifetime member of the Tecumseh Lodge 69, Scottish Rite Valley of Detroit and Moslem Shriners of Southfield, Mich., as well as a being a member of the First Presbyterian churches of Adrian and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and the Elks and Rotary Clubs of Adrian. Richard is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Marcia Starke (Hugh) of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Melanie Spain (Jeffrey) of Denver, N.C. ; two stepdaughters and one stepson, Joanne Rummel of Sebewaing, Mich., Karen Redsicker of Adamstown, Pa., and Robert Boulanger of Gilford, N.H.; five grandchildren, Andrew Starke and wife, Victoria; Kyle Starke, Corrine Spain and Austin Spain, as well as his sister, Virginia Gray of Ottawa Hills, Ohio. A family Memorial and Interment service will be held in 2009 in his hometown of Adrian at Oakwood Cemetery. Richard Weber, age 71, of Adrian, formerly of Hudson, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Hudson to Louis J. and Oneida A. (Giadham) Weber. Richard worked for Stubnitz-Greene for 30 years and then Universal Die cast in Saline until he retired. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson and also St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian. Richard loved farming, ice fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Richard had been married toShirley Taylor and they were blessed with four children. Sue Carrie Melvin, 72, of Enid,Ohio, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was born to John Rennels and Sarah Babet (Vincent) McClain on Oct. 4, 1936, in Bird Lake, and went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, Okla. Sue grew up in Jerome and attended North Adams High School.  She moved to sunny California, where she met the love of her life, William Melvin. In 1962, she married William D. Melvin in Spring Valley, Calif. Sue was a homemaker and enjoyed spending precious time with her family and grandchildren. Even though she was so far away from her parents and siblings, they were always close to her heart. When her daughter and son-in-law decided to move to Enid, she soon followed in 1997. There was no keeping her away from her grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Tina Rodriguez and husband Ramiro of Enid; three grandchildren, Candice Rose Chavez, Christian Michael Rodriguez, and Ciara Alexis Rodriguez; and one great-grandchild, Natalia Rose Chavez, all of Enid; four brothers, Tom, Johnny, Ronnie and Terry McClain; and three sisters, Dorothy Thomas, Barbara Griffin and Claribel Cook. Sue was preceded in death by her husband William D. Melvin and one sister Mary Jane Hansen. Troy L. McDaniel, age 81, of Bronson, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. He had been in failing health. Troy was born December 28, 1927 in Flemington, W.V., son of Forrest and Thelma (Weaver) McDaniel and moved to Bronson in 1951. He married Coila Powell on August 4, 1951 in Angola, Ind. She died in 1996. He retired from the Douglas Autotech at age of 65 after 28 years of service. While living in West Virginia, Troy worked in the coal mines, and after his move to Michigan, he first worked as a tree trimmer in Colon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening and playing cards. Surviving are his daughter Judy McDaniel of Coldwater, sons and daughters-in-law David and Susan McDaniel of Bronson, Donald and Mary McDaniel of Manton and Gary and Ardela McDaniel of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest McDaniel and Paul McDaniel both of West Virginia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Coila, his parents, daughters Shirley Stewart and Sharon McDaniel and brothers Ralph McDaniel and Howard McDaniel. According to his wishes, cremation will take place.  A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson is assisting the family with arrangements. Born in Flint, Michigan, on December 13, 1923, Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria (nee Krogman), son Michael, and brother Ralph. He is survived by son David (Carolyn) Wenger, of Detroit, Michigan, and daughters Sue (Bob) Carling, of Livermore, California, and Anne (KC) Wenger-Hornbach, of Naples, Florida; grandchildren Michael (Stephanie) Wenger, Steve (Piper) Carling, Matt (Stacy) Carling, Chris (Kristy) Carling, and Alexis Wenger; and great-grandchildren Lauren, Chelsea, Michael, and Alexander Wenger; Demri Carling and Samantha Carling. Additional survivors include sister Shirley DeHority of Syracuse, New York, and sister-in-law Jean Wenger of Palos Verdes Estates, California. Dave was a former business leader in telecommunications (Michigan Bell, AT&T, Ameritech) and a veteran of World War II. Since retiring, Dave resided in Naples, and summered in Harbor Springs, Michigan until 2002, when he became a full-time Naples resident. Dave had many passions: golfing, playing the piano, walking the beach, and reading among them. Dave served as an Elder and Deacon in various Presbyterian churches where he worshiped. He was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He had many charitable interests, including The PGA Foundation. For the past 5 years, Dave was a reading volunteer at Osceola Elementary School in Naples. Recently he said about his volunteer work there, "I don't know how much I do for them, but the kids sure do a lot for me!" His family and many friends will remember the quick wit, smile, discipline, and high standards that defined his entire life. Private services have been held.
