Anna M. Fougerousse, 87, of Reading, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at her home. She was born in Monterrey, Mexico on Oct. 12, 1921 and her mother was Anna Their. She was married Oct. 9, 1940 to William Fougerousse and he survives. Anna and Bill moved to the Hillsdale area in 1963, prior to that they resided in Dearborn. Anna was a member of the Army Air Force, a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women at the church. Surviving besides her husband Bill of 68 years are two daughters, Donna (Guy) Hinman of Angola and Dianne (Paul) Sonnenberg of Austin, Texas; a son, David (Sharon) Fougerousse of Niles, Michigan; five grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. A mass of Christian burial for Anna Fougerousse will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Ioane Sigarara as celebrant. Interment will follow at King Lake Cemetery in Hillsdale. There will be a prayer vigil service at 6 p.m. Monday with visitation to follow until 8 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Bernedine E. Gearig, 87, of Pioneer, Ohio, formerly of Osseo, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Montpelier, Ohio. She was born March 10, 1921, in Hillsdale County, to Alberta and Fay Nettie (Edinger) Eagle. She graduated from Waldron High School in 1939. She married Wendell E. Gearig April 2, 1939, in Angola, Ind. and he preceded her in October 2004. She had worked at one time for H.S. Oppenheim Co., Pioneer then retired from Pioneer Transformer in 1983 after 25 years. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a member of the Dorcas Circle through Lake View United Brethren in Christ Church. Survivors include one son, W. Allan (Mary) Gearig, Allegan; one daughter, Carolyn J. Nafziger, Pioneer; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son-in-law, Mervin Nafziger in Sept. 2003; two brothers, Robert and Lawrence and two sisters, Florence Dyson and Freida Scharp. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lake View United Brethren in Christ Church, rural Camden, with Pastor Steve E. Smith officiating. Betty Joan Park Lapeer Betty Joan Park, age 78, of Lapeer (formerly of Hazel Park) passed away Thursday (December 4, 2008). She was born August 31, 1930 in Harsen's Island to Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Dunlap. She married Larry C. Park, her high school sweetheart, on December 28, 1950 in Hazel Park. Betty attended Hazel park Schools, graduating in 1948. Larry and Betty chose to live and work in Hazel Park. Betty was a Hazel Park School bus driver for 10 years, retiring in 1991. Betty loved her Lord and Savoir, Jesus Christ, and served him faithfully, daily with Bible study and by avoiding any lime light, her bottom line was to serve the Lord and service to others. Upon retirement, they moved to Lapeer, joining the families of their three youngest children, enjoying the Thumb Area. Catherine S. Payeur, age 96, of Blissfield, formerly of Adrian and Ann Arbor, died at home on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. She was born June 12, 1912, in Adrian, to Frank and Anna (Habrick) Schwab. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School.  On June 12, 1941, she married Alfred Payeur of Ann Arbor. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1999.  Catherine and Alfred were founding members of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ann Arbor, where they raised their family. In addition, Catherine was a founding member of the St. Joseph Fraternity of the Chapter of Secular Franciscans, a group who shared her strong faith in the Lord that sustained her throughout her life. Catherine is survived by a son, David Payeur and his wife, Jeanne, of Lancaster, Pa.; four daughters, Rosemary Kleinheinz and her husband, Thomas, of Madison, Wis., Virginia Payeur of Redwood City, Calif., Margaret Mather and her husband, Martin, of Germantown, Ohio, and Jane Kelley and her husband, Randy, of Blissfield; a brother, William Schwab, a sister, Margaret Robinette, and a sister-in-law, Clara Schwab, all of Adrian. Catherine was also blessed with eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Alfred, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Alvin and Wilfred Schwab; and two sisters, baby Mary Ann and Helen Dibble. In the later years of her life, Catherine lived in comfort with her daughter, Jane, and son-in-law, Randy. They were supported by so many including Sue, Delora, Fran, Mary and Simona. The family wishes to recognize the loving kindness of her caregivers and the entire Hospice of Lenawee team. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian where Catherine was baptized, confirmed and married. Fr. Tom Helfrich, her spiritual advisor, will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. There will be a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Clare J. Slank, 83, of Hillsdale, and former Detroit and Litchfield area resident, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility of the Hillsdale Community Health Center.  She was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Detroit to Joseph and Katherine (Jastremski) Crumb and was a school teacher in the Detroit area. Clare was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a teacher’s aide at the Litchfield Community Schools, as well as a substitute teacher there for several years. In 1947, she married Norbert Slank and he preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by a daughter, Noreen Slank, Huntington Woods; sons Norbert C. (Carol) Slank, Livonia and Thomas Slank, Clinton; a sister, Joan Mueller,  Hillsdale; a  brother, Leon Crumb, Douglas and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday,at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Hillsdale, with the Rev. Ioanne Sigarara officiating. Interment will follow in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Clifford Roy Wilcox Lapeer Clifford Roy Wilcox, age 76, of Lapeer (formerly of Brown City) passed away Sunday (December 7, 2008) peacefully at home. He was born September 26, 1932 in Brown City to Earl and Talatha (Keesler) Wilcox. He married Janet Firman on June 29, 1957 in Imlay City, Rev. Balfour officiated, Cliff and Janet lived in Lapeer for over 47 years. Cliff graduated from Brown City High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. After serving in Japan, he was honorably discharged in 1956. He then served in the Air Force Reserves until 1960. Cliff was a lifelong member of the North Branch American Legion Post #457 and the Lapeer Fraternal Order of Eagles #2427. He enjoyed fishing, sporting events, traveling with Janet, and spending the winters in Hawaii and Florida Cliff was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Donald William Scott Lapeer Donald William Scott, age 90, of Lapeer (formerly of North Branch) passed away Friday (December 5, 2008). He was born March 21, 1918 in North Branch to William and Mary Jane (Duperow) Scott. He married Alice Margaret on June 7, 1942 in Flint. Don worked 38 years at the Lapeer County Road Commission. He retired in 1976 as the Road Commission's superintendent. Don was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellow Lodge in Lapeer. Don loved hunting, fishing and traveling. Doris M. Harris Lapeer Doris M. Harris (Bunce) age 90 of Lapeer (formerly of Oxford) went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday (December 3, 2008). She was born in Stitsville, MI, October 13, 1918 to (the late) Willis and Myrtle (Kronkrite) Bunce. Doris married (the late) Russell W. Harris on June 21, 1936 in Houghton Lake, MI. Together they had six children. She worked for Syncro in Oxford for 21 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting and playing the piano in her younger years. In the later days she enjoyed watching her television game shows with Buddy "the dog" sitting on her lap and visiting with friends and family. Dorothy Mary (Drewyor) Blanchard went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family and companion, Dec. 5, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospice House. She was 84.  Mrs. Blanchard was born March 3, 1924, in Tecumseh, Mich., to Clyde and Mary Drewyor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne.   She majored in Business at Adrian College in Michigan and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and the women’s basketball team. She married her childhood neighbor in 1948 and moved to Macon, Mich., where they established a hog farming operation called Macon Bacon. In addition to working as office manager for 25 years for Dr. George Burkhardt, she also was the co-owner of Teddy Bear Express and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh, the Legion Auxiliary, Business and Professional Women’s Group, and Herrick Hospital Auxiliary. In 1996 she and her husband moved to Zelienople, Pa., where she continued to enjoy entertaining, volunteering and bible studies. In 2006, she received The President’s Volunteer Service Award for her many hours at Vincentian Regency and Passavant Retirement Center. She assisted her daughter with The Gathering Place until her illness in 2006 and was a member of Park United Presbyterian Church in Zelienople. Dorothy will be affectionately remembered for her love of family and friends, care giving, and generous spirit. An avid lover of all sports, she was also talented as a china painter, pianist, and cook.  She was blessed to be a 13-year breast cancer survivor and courageously endured kidney dialysis until choosing to discontinue in October. Her unending generosity and fun loving spirit will be cherished by all who knew her.  Dorothy is survived by her devoted companion, Roger Carothers of Zelienople; a daughter, Debbie (Robert) Busteed of Wexford, Pa.; one son, Kevin Blanchard of Lambertville, Mich.; grandchildren, Brandon (Deanna) Busteed of Sherborn, Mass., Keely (Spencer) Singer of Chicago Ill., Dawson and Morgan Blanchard, and two nieces.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at First Baptist Church, 5290 Milwaukee Road, Tecumseh, Mich. She was born on May 17, 1932 in Harbor Beach to the late William & Agnes (Lorkowski) Essenmacher. Edna and David Krueger were united in marriage on May 12, 1956 in Harbor Beach. Edna was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed walking, working with her flowers and cooking. Earl A. Stephens Earl A. Stephens, age 85, (formerly of Dryden) passed away Wednesday (December 3, 2008). He was born October 21, 1923 the son of Jabez and Clara (Sjoholm) Stephens in Ishpeming, MI. He married Rosemae Choinard October 13, 1951 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Detroit. Mr. Stephens proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII before an honorable discharge. Mr. Stephens was very active member at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden. He served in many roles including alter boy, usher, orator, and Minister of Eucharist. He loved working the garden and woodworking and was always busy doing something. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Evelyn B. Hopping, former resident of Frankenmuth and Sturgis, Mich., beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Dec. 5, 2008, at Clare-Bridge Cottage in Saginaw with her family by her side. Age 89 years, Evelyn M. Brueker was born Aug. 11, 1919 in Ft. Wayne, Ind. She was married to Donald J. Hopping on June 7, 1941. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 2000. Evelyn was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She graduated from Ft. Wayne Institute of Business and later retired from Sturgis Public Schools. Surviving are one son, William (Cynthia ) Hopping of Augusta, Ky.; one daughter, Janet (Gerry) Gaeth of Frankenmuth; two grandchildren, Bryan (Lisa) Hopping, Kentucky, and Elena Hopping of Washington, DC; two great-grandchildren, Ty and Evelyn Hopping. Evon M. Poore, age 82, died Dec. 6, 2008, under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. Evon was born July 29, 1926, in Haleyville, Ala., to Alfred and Bertha (Percell) Cole. On June 27, 1942, she married Price Travis Poore in Haleyville, Ala. Evon was employed by Faraday, Inc. in Tecumseh for 28 years, retiring in 1982. She attended the Church of the Good Shepherd in Adrian. Evon’s family and friends have missed her warm smiles and kind words for the last eight years, having lost them to Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Evon was a life-long gardener with both vegetable and flower gardens flourishing under her care. Many hours were spent snapping beans and drinking sweet tea on the back porch with family, friends and neighbors. Evon is survived by two sons, Travis Earl Poore of Adrian and Gary E. Poore and his wife, Mary, also of Adrian; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Evon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Price; four brothers, Jesse Cole, Junior Cole, Herman Cole and Wilburn Cole; three sisters, Elsie Cleveland, Mae Cole and Mary Cole. Frank X. Peplinski 1919-2008 Frank X. Peplinski Sr., 89, Ubly, passed away Friday evening, December 5, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper of Saginaw. Frank was born on August 25, 1919 in Tyre to the late John and Joanna (Glaza) Peplinski. He married Lillian Fisher on August 26, 1939 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He attended Ubly High School. He was employed for 30 years at Nestle Milk Company in Ubly and then retired from the Huron County Court House Maintenance Department after 14 years. Frank was a Ubly School bus driver for many years. He was also a former Ubly School Board member and trustee. He was a volunteer firefighter for Bingham Township for 30 years. Frank was an original member of the Ubly Fox Hunters. He was one of the founders and former coach of the Ubly Little League. Frank was a lifelong parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly where he was a former usher. He was a member of the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus Council # 1546. He bowled on the Nestle's Traveling Bowling League for 30 years. Frank was an avid sportsman and supported all of the Ubly athletic teams. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, especially euchre and hunting deer. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lillian, Ubly; two sons, Frank (Georgia) Peplinski Jr., Ubly and Mike (Sandy) Peplinski, Cass City; two daughters, Patricia Smith, Ubly and Barbara (Leonard) Partaka, Stafford, Va; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter; four brothers and two sisters. Funeral mass was held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. Patrick O'Connor, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Essexville, officiated, with burial taking place in the St. John cemetery in Ubly in the spring. QUINCY — Geneva A. Sprout, 87, of Quincy, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at her home.  She was born Dec. 22, 1920 in Branch County to Frank and Isabel (Tindall) Treacher. She married Beryl L. Sprout on June 27, 1939 in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1991. Mrs. Sprout was a resident of Quincy most of her life.  She was a homemaker until 1972 when she went to work for Crotty Corp. in Quincy, retiring in 1986. Besides being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed flowers, birds, music and drives in the country.  She was a 50-year member of the Quincy Rebekah Lodge #186, Fred Rogers Encampment #25 of Quincy and Litchfield, and a member of the Quincy United Methodist Church. Survivors include daughters Mrs. Isabel Kochendorfer and Mrs. Teresa (Ralph) Estlow, both of Quincy, and Mrs. Jacqueline Kline of Pleasant Lake, Ind., grandchildren Greg (Linda) Kochendorfer, Lisa (Tim) Myers, Tammy Jo (Jim) Swihart, Travis Estlow, Tyler (Holly) Estlow, Derek (Tammi) Kline and Darby (Lori) Kline and eight great-grandchildren. He married Crystal Lee Wilcox on April 17, 1971, in Tecumseh, and she survives. Gerald was employed with Merillat Industries for 36 years, retiring in October of 2008. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Glenn G. Weil Lapeer Glenn G. Weil, age 84, of Lapeer went to be with the Lord Monday (December 1, 2008). He passed away in the early morning hours and was surrounded by family at that time. Mr. Weil was a fighter pilot during WWII and served on the Detroit Police force for almost forty years, at which time he went to the North Branch Police as Chief, until he retired a second time in 1989, after 16 additional years of service. Mr. Weil was a loving grandfather and great grandfather who left his family with many memories. He was close to his children and grandchildren from the early years with his own children to the latter days with his grand and great grandchildren. Mr. Weil was actively involved in the ministries of several Baptist and Lutheran churches throughout his life. He is deeply loved and will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him. Oct. 16, 1934 — Dec. 9, 2008 Harriet Jo-Ann (Carter) Parish, 74, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at her home surrounded by family. She was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Bixby Hospital to Blanche and Donald Carter. She grew up and attended Adrian Public Schools, graduated from Adrian High School in 1952 and went on to attend Adrian College.  Harriet Parish was the Owner and the Head Teacher of Good News Christian Day Care Center for 12 years. She taught and cared for many children of working families throughout the Lenawee County area. Prior to owning the day care center, she worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Garfield Elementary; worked with the youth at the Maurice Spear Campus Youth Center and worked with the young girls at the Girls Training Center. Her love for education and children remained with her throughout her life. Harriet Parish also had a strong Prison Ministry and preached at several local churches. She also performed weddings and funerals for families in Lenawee County. She was also a former member of the local Christian Womens’ Group, “Women A-Glow.” Harriet was an active member of her community. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Parish, and together they raised four children, Debra (Parish) Spann of Chicago, Ill., Gregory Parish of Adrian, Scott Parish of Adrian and Robin Parish of Adrian. Harriet Jo-Ann (Carter) Parish loved her family, friends and community very much. She was loved and admired by all of those who met her. Henry F. Mastie, age 86, of Tecumseh, formerly of Britton and Ann Arbor, passed away peacefully Dec. 9, 2008, at the Saline Evangelical home surrounded by his loving family. Henry was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Stambaugh, Mich., the son of Michael and Sophie (Philipkowski) Mastie. On Sept. 8, 1945, he married Kathryn Olds in Ann Arbor and she survives. At the age of 18, after spending one year with the CCC, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1940 to 1944. He was in the European Theater of Operations and was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. Henry was employed by the Chrysler Corporation for 19 years, retiring in 1971. Henry enjoyed 28 happy, wonderful winters in Englewood, Fla., especially playing shuffleboard and cards. He was a former mayor of Britton and belonged to the American Legion Glen H. Daykin Post #155, the Tecumseh VFW and was a life member of the Adrian DAV. Besides his wife, Kathryn, Henry is survived by his children, Ronald H. (Judy) Mastie of North Port, Fla., Dennis Mastie of Alexandria, Va., and Barbara (Tony) Nykodym of Monroe, Mich.; grandchildren, Michelle (Nelson) Glowacki, Mark (Katie) Mastie, Angela (Joe’l) Marshall; Zachary Nykodym, Dennis Jr. and Daniel Mastie; great-grandchildren, Molly and Madolyn Glowacki and Jarell Marshall; siblings, Helen (Frank) Shurtliff, Bernice Brunelli, Della (Marvin) Bemis, Frank Mastie; Stan (Jan) Mastie, and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence “Larry” F. Nielsen, age 73, passed away Dec. 6, 2008, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.  He went peacefully with his family by his side. Mr. Nielsen was born in Chicago on May 11, 1935, the only child of Fred and Loretta (Blink) Nielsen.  He grew up attending Catholic Schools. In Chicago, he worked for Vaughn’s Seed Co., where he met his first wife, the former Geraldine Johnson.  They were married  March 19, 1955 at St. Genevieve’s Church in Chicago. He joined the Air Force in 1957 and was stationed in the French Morocco, Libya, Texas, and finally at Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas.  He sent for his wife to join him in Vegas where they began to raise a family, their first child being born on base. While in Vegas he worked full time as a drug buyer for McKesson & Robbins and occasionally part time at the Boulder Highway Nursery.  They left Vegas in September 1974 and eventually settled down in Sturgis in June 1975 where he worked as manager for One Hour Martinizing, drove school bus, worked as a school custodian and also at AMF Sturgis Lanes. On Oct. 13, 2000, he married the former Charlotte Selman, who survives. Besides his loving wife of eight years, Charlotte; surviving are his two daughters, Mrs. Eric (Linda) Carr and son Andrew and Mrs. Michael (Rhonda) Parker and sons Eric, Floyd, and Adam; 7 step-children and their families Donna (Rex) Samuels, Kathy (Tammy Taylor) Driame, Norman (Lynette) Merkle, Charlotte Brookman, Donald (Angie) Merkle, Carolyn (Bill) Key and Isaiah Merkle; aunt, Elsie Nielsen of Mountain Home, Ark.; sister-in-law, Joyce Young of Grovertown, Ind., and brother & sister-in-law,  Ron and Diane Johnson of Knox, Ind.  As well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gerry, who died after 44 years of marriage on June 28, 1999. Margaret A. Dunn, 87, of Coldwater, died Tuesday Dec. 9, 2008 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. She was born November 16, 1921 in LaCross, Kan. to Robert and Georgia (Jennings) Miller. Margaret married Earl Dunn in March 1946 in Coldwater. He preceded her in death March 7, 1981. She was life long member of the First Baptist Church in Coldwater. She enjoyed spending time with her family and helping others. She was employed by Southern Michigan Bank and Trust in Coldwater for 30 years. She is survived by sons Larry (Linda) Dunn of Austin, Minn., David (Lynn) Dunn of Bronson, Gary (Sue) Dunn of Galesburg and Jeff (Kathy) Dunn of Coldwater; eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Wilma Furney and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. Margaret Hopkins, 91, of Bronson, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 at the Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall. Margaret was born on April 10, 1917 to John and Zenna (Linsey) Hartman in Coldwater. She attended Coldwater schools. She married Maurice D. Hopkins on June 8, 1935 in Angola, Ind. She lived in Matteson Township nearly all of her life. Margaret was primarily a homemaker, but she did work at various jobs during her life. She worked for L.A. Darling, drove a rural bus route for Bronson schools and worked in housekeeping for the Community Health Center and the Coach Light Motel. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and loved to bake for their bake sales and bizarre. She played the washboard in the Good Time Band at the Burnside Senior Center. Margaret enjoyed sewing, crocheting, making hook rugs and fishing. She is survived by her son Jerry (Janetta) Hopkins of Burr Oak, daughter Sandra (John) Hohman of Evart, grandchildren David, Adam and Kelly (Vicky) Hopkins, Rachel (Mike) Wilson, Amy (Matt) Urick, Emily Hohman, Jim Shedd and Terry (Katrina) Shedd, great grandchildren William, Justen, Glenn, Blaine, Alicia, Corissa, and Elyse, brother LeRoy (Bonnie) Smith and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maurice in 1982, daughter Linda Lee Hopkins in 1985, six sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at the Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Marion L. Landers, 68, of Wolcottville, Ind.,  died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Landers lived his life in LaGrange County, and was the owner of CarQuest Auto Parts in LaGrange which he started in 1976.  He was a member of South Milford Church of Christ and the South Milford Lions Club.  He collected and restored antique cars and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Mr. Landers was born on April 23, 1940 in Kendallville, Ind., to Jesse and Geraldine (Leonard) Landers.  On June 12, 1959 he married Wanda Bateman in Wolcottville, Ind.  Mrs. Landers survives in Wolcottville. Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Mike Todd of Wolcottville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Curt and Mary Catherine Landers of Wolcottville, and Jack and Lori Landers of Noblesville, Ind.; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Megan Landers, Morgan Landers, Trent Landers, Molly Landers, Erika Todd, Kati Todd, Jami and Matt Beck, Ashley and Mike Rocchio, and Kyle Landers; his foster parents, Ike and Arlene Dallas of Wolcottville; a sister, Laura Cusick of Waterloo, Ind.; four brothers, Fred Landers of Tampa, Fla., Donald Landers of Corunna, Ind., Raymond Landers of Mancelona, Mich., and Richard Landers; and a foster sister, Elaine Lambright of LaGrange. Marjorie H. Dock, 87, of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. She was born Sept., 17, 1921 in Shipshewana, Ind., to Charles H. and Bessie (Rising) Penn. Marjorie was a nurses aide at Three Rivers Hospital for 16 years. She lived and worked for many years in Villa Park, Ill. She was an accountant for Robert Hall and Ovaltine. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. Marjorie is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. (Donald) Rentfrow of Kalamazoo; a son, James (Beverly) Dock of Kentfield, California; a son-in-law, Harold A. Bennett of Pittsford; three grandchildren, Lorie  (Kevin J.) Hines of Camden, Nannette L. Bennett of San Rafael, California and Kevin; seven great grandchildren, Jordan, Jessica and Jenna Hines, Samantha, Timothy, Jennifer, Amanda and two other great grandchildren. Marvel DeWitt, of Manton, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. She was 70. Marvel was a native of Cadillac, Michigan, and married Vern DeWitt of Holland in 1987 in Manton. She was active in the community an avid snowmobiler and loved being with her family. In addition to her husband Vern, she is survived by a son and four daughters; and by Vern’s children, Michelle DeWitt of Holland, Scott (Sheryl) DeWitt of Cedarville and Craig DeWitt; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Marvin “Gene” Sell, age 88, of Onsted passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Bixby Medical Center.  Gene was born Aug. 9, 1920, at the family farm in Ogden Center, the youngest son of Dayton and Hazel (Hotrum) Sell. He was a graduate of Clinton High School. A decorated World War II veteran, Gene served his country in the infantry of the United States Army during the Battle of the Bulge. He also played trombone in Trinidad with the Army Band. Upon returning from service, Gene attended the University of Michigan where he received numerous degrees. In 1952, Gene married Alice Chinchik in Blissfield. Alice, his wife of 55 years, preceded him in death Jan. 22, 2008. Gene with his brother, Elwyn, was one of the original developers in the Irish Hills area. He built the Irish Hills Ski Lodge and Golf Course which was a big part of his life for many years. During the ’50s and ’60s, Gene opened a dance hall in the Irish Hills which was a popular gathering place. He was a life member of the DAV and also active with the University of Michigan Alumni. He attended Bethany Assembly of God. Surviving Gene are his children, Carol Sell of Adrian, Gary Sell, also of Adrian, and David Sell of Onsted; and a brother, Elwyn Sell and his wife, Doris, of Lake Gogebic, Mich. In addition to his wife, Alice, Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Claudia Sell DuBois. The funeral service for Gene will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Templeton officiating and military rites conducted by the Annis-Fint Post #1584 of the VFW. Mary Jane Garrison, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Healthsouth Ridgelake Hospital in Sarasota, Fla. She was born in Blissfield, Mich., on Oct. 14, 1934, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1965 from Adrian, Mich., with her husband, Gary, and children, Pamela and Susanne. Jane, as she was known to her friends, spent many years as a homemaker, a few years working in real estate offices, and had her own consignment shop. Jane and Gary were married in 1956 in Adrian. Jane was always at her husband’s side during the many years as they were involved in Gary’s banking career, in the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist on Quesada. Jane is survived by her loving husband, Gary; daughters, Pamela and husband, Al Decoteau, of Port Charlotte and Susanne and husband, Brad Chippi, of Decker, Mich.; granddaughters, Angela Tull of Orlando, Fla., and Melanie Cekuta of Ypsilanti, Mich., and her children, Brevin and Baeliegh. Also surviving are Jane’s sisters, Margarete Silberhorn and Katherine Reed, both of Adrian, Mich. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Viva Berry; sister, Donna, and brother, James. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. BORRE, Michael C. Of Kalamazoo Passed away suddenly Friday morning, December 5, 2008 from a vehicle accident. Mike was born September 2, 1959, in St. Joseph, Michigan, the son of Mathew and Jean (Chevrie) Borre. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Michigan State University. For the past 23 years, he has resided in the Kalamazoo area. Mike owned and operated Ace Hardware in Portage for 10 years. He was employed by Cardinal Health from 1997 to 2008 and had just started a job with David W Sims Electric. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson Disease in 1992, Mike had a zest for life and lived each day to the fullest, whether it was traveling to faraway places like Bhutan or sailing in the Chicago-Mackinac Race. He had great passion and respect for the outdoors and treasured hunting and fishing with his many friends and family. Mike's greatest prides were his three children. He spent years coaching and cheering them on in their various sports and interests. He was an avid Michigan State fan, swimming for MSU during his college years. Mike believed strongly in helping others and was a member of several organizations over the years, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Timber Ridge Ski Patrol, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Portage Soccer Club, Portage Rotary and St. Catherine of Siena Church. Mike will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son and friend. On August 16, 1986, Mike was united in marriage to the former, Elizabeth Gibson, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Heather, Michael, Jr. and Bridget all at home; his parents, Mathew and Jean Borre of St. Joseph; his siblings, Mary Ann (Joe) Pater, Chip Borre and Steve (Michele) Borre all of St. Joseph; several nieces and nephews and an uncle, Jim (Faith) Borre of Naples, FL. Michael D. Hart Lapeer Michael D. Hart, age 54, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, passed away Friday (December 5, 2008). He passed in the comforts of his home and surrounded by his beloved family. In 1979 he married his beloved wife, LueAnn Hart. Michael was an attendee at Lapeer West High School. After which he enrolled in the United States Army and had been stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He had been a truck driver for 10 years, during that time he found a great deal of enjoyment in traveling across the country. Michael loved hunting, fishing and motorcycling in the outdoors with his family. Michael was loved by all and will be deeply missed. Patricia J. Fergeson, age 73, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 8, 2008, at the Deer Country Adult Foster Care home in Burr Oak. She was born Nov. 10, 1935, in Cherokee County, S. C., a daughter of the late David and Minnie (Duckett) Bridges. Pat’s early life was spent in Greenville, S. C. Following her marriage she moved to Sturgis where she resided for over 50 years. From 1982-2000 she had lived and worked in Colorado, New Mexico and Alaska. On August 31, 1954, she married Paul Douglas Fergeson in Greenville, S. C. He died Dec. 24, 1972. Following Mr. Fergeson’s death she married Dr. Donald Hardy. This marriage ended in divorce. One of Pat’s greatest enjoyments was helping others through her nursing career which began at Glen Oaks Community College where she received her degree as a LPN. She continued her education at Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colo., where she became an RN and also received her master’s degree in nursing. She truly loved being a nurse and had been employed at the Sturgis Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. Following her obtainment of her master’s degree, she became a government nurse and lived and worked on the Navaho Indian Reservation in Crown Point, N. M. She later was promoted and moved to the Indian Reservation at Dillingham, Alaska where she was the head nurse in the emergency room. She was also the flight nurse for the medical helicopter between Dillingham and Anchorage, Alaska. Patricia’s favorite hobby was buying and selling antiques at auctions and flea markets all over the country. She also loved to travel and enjoyed the outdoors. Surviving are one daughter, Joyce (Gene) Yoder of Sturgis; one son, Paul Fergeson of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Gena (Andrew) Lytle of Phoenix, Ariz., Garrett Fergeson of Sturgis, Taya Fergeson of Sturgis, Jason Fergeson of Grand Junction, Colo., and Shena (Mike) Kimes of Sturgis; a sister, Wanda Hawkins of Greenville, S. C., and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband; one son, David Fergeson; a sister, Frances Semones; and a brother, Thomas Bridges. He was born April 2, 1961, in Sturgis, Mich., a son to Philip and Jaqueline (Johnson) Barrows Sr. Philip was a lifelong resident of Howe, Ind. He enjoyed bahaing and spending time with his children. Reyes Guadalupe Renteria, age 31, of Holland, died Sunday, December 7, 2008.  Rey was born on January 6, 1977 in Durango, Mexico.  He is the loving son of Francisca Flores and Juan Felix Renteria of Holland.  Rey was a wonderful son, husband, brother, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed by all.  He loved music, dancing and working on cars.  He is survived by his wife of eight and a half years, Oralia Renteria of Holland.  He was the loving brother of Maria (Cuca) and Juan Cruz of Holland, Maria Renteria of Juarez, Mexico, Gregorio and Juana Renteria of Durango Mexico, Jose Crispin and Patricia Renteria of Cohauila, Mexico, Luciano Renteria of Holland, Felix E. Renteria of Holland, Maria (Santa) and Jorge Santos of Hatch, New Mexico.  He is the loving uncle of 11 nephews; 11 nieces; three great-nephews and two great-nieces.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, at Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel, 315 E. 16th St., Holland with Deacon Juan Garcia officiating.  Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 5p.m. at the funeral chapel.  An online registry is available at www.notierverleelangeland.com.     |

Robert Keith Fuller, 70, of Litchfield Township, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at home. Born April 23, 1938 in Sauk County, Wis., he was the son of Lloyd and Gladys (Snyder) Fuller.  Robert was a truck driver and enjoyed working and tinkering in his garage.  He also loved frequent dining at Spangler’s Hilltop Restaurant in Jonesville. Survivors include his wife, Pearl (Pudil), whom he married June 5, 1973; seven daughters, Bonnie of Wisconsin, Sherry Pudil of Montgomery, Tracy (Todd) Butcher of Quincy, Linda Taber of Montgomery, Jodie Mullins of Coldwater, Sheila Strait of North Adams, Yvonne Copus of Reedsburg, Wis.; one son, Keith Fuller of Wisconsin; two sisters, Ethel Mobley and Mary GoBell, both of Reedsburg; one brother, Lloyd Fuller, Jr. of Baraboo, Wis.; numerous grandchildren, including Brittany Butcher; and several great-grandchildren. His parents; one daughter, Lisa Hayslip; and grandson, Andrew preceded him in death. There will be no visitation or service. Arrangements are by George White Funeral Home, Litchfield. Roger D. Blay, 64, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1944 to Douglas and Joan (West) Blay. He was married Nov. 8, 2002 to Denise Henderson and she survives. Besides his wife, Denise, Roger is survived by two daughters, Lisa Ann Blay of Detroit and Joann Blay; two sons, Roger Dale Blay Jr. of Detroit and Robert (Stephanie) Blay of Ashley, Ind.; a stepson, Lonie Dean Barnett II of Hillsdale; three sisters, Janice, Debbie and Tina; two brothers, Doug and Roy; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy. A memorial gathering for Roger D. Royce "Roy" Carey Lapeer Royce "Roy" Carey, age 80, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, passed away Sunday (December 7, 2008). He was born October 1, 1928, in Flint to Clair and Leola (Doty) Carey. He married Suzanne Adele Fernette on January 27, 1951 at the Saginaw Episcopal Church. Roy graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1946. He worked for over 35 years at the Lapeer State Home, first as a gardener and ultimately as an attendant nurse. He retired in 1989. Roy was a blacksmith for over 60 years. Sarah C. Scrimger Lapeer Sarah C. Scrimger, age 80, of Lapeer (formerly of Flint) passed away Saturday (December 6, 2008). She was born April 15, 1928 in Smoks, South Carolina to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert J. Thomas. She married Richard L. Scrimger on September 9, 1972 in Flint. Mrs. Scrimger retired in 1982 from AC Spark Plug, where she worked for 30 years. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the Suncrest Auxiliary and UAW Local #651. Sarah enjoyed crafts, gardening, reading and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Timothy A. Warriner, 52, of Hillsdale, passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at his home. He was born Dec. 5, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, to Richard and Colleen (Houseknecht) Warriner. Tim was a self employed construction worker and home builder and a resident of this area all his life. Surviving is a brother, Doug (Martha) Warriner of Hillsdale. He is also survived by two nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gretchen and a brother William. Memorial services are being planned for a later date. Vernon T. Kollar, age 73 of Homer, passed away Thursday Dec. 4, 2008 at Allegiance Health in Jackson. He was born April 5, 1935 in Ransom Township to Earl Arthur and Blanche (Stinger) Kollar. On Nov. 8, 1952, he was married to Mary Tesch in Elkhart, Ind. and she survives. He was a 1971 graduate of Springport High School, graduating with his daughter. He held a private pilot’s license. He loved to hunt and was an avid trap shooter, he was a life member of the MTA and the ATA and owned and operated Woodland Gun Shop as a gunsmith. He worked at Corning Glass in Albion for 24 years and also as a supervisor of the Tool and Die Department at Klein Tool in Jonesville for 17 years. Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Terry (Dale) Penfield and Cynthia (Steven) Martin both of Leslie; Linda Vanous of Hillsdale and Veronica Kollar of Montgomery; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael and Jeremy Daglow; a great-great-granddaughter, Jennifer Murphy; five half-sisters; his parents and his stepfather, John Cook. Services will be a 1 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 9 at the Finley Drive Chapel of J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive Albion. White, Warren C. "Duke" Midland, Michigan Mr. White, age 85 years, completed his "Journey to Heaven" peacefully at home on Saturday, December 6, 2008 surrounded by his family. At a young age his family moved to Berkley Michigan where he attended the National Shrine of the Little Flower grade school and graduated from St. Mary's high school in Royal Oak. Duke married the love of his life in 1952 at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church. The family resided in the Detroit area until they moved to Midland in 1968. Duke worked at Lee Laundry until 1977 at which time he purchased Roth Cleaners in Bay City. Duke's family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street in Midland, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with a Vigil for the Deceased at 7:00 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008 from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3109 Swede Avenue at Ashman Street in Midland. Wyla Brown, 79, of Adrian and formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at her home. She was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Adrian, to Vern and Pearl (Shewman) Carr. She married Donald L. Brown Oct. 18, 1947, in Adrian, and he preceded her in death April 15, 1986. Wyla worked at many places and was most recently employed at Kustom Fit in Pioneer, Ohio and Fairway in Hillsdale. She was a very lucky avid bingo player and was always willing to help her family and friends. Surviving Wyla are nine daughters, Diana (Gary) Howard, Kathy (Terry) Ragless and Becky Smith all of Adrian, Jane (Nevarrow) Black of Hillsdale, Robin (Doyle) Pike and Jennifer (Don) Thompson of Morenci, Dawn Smith of Ransom, Joann (Ed) Frazer of West Unity, Ohio and Tina Clement of Hudson; three sons, Don Brown Jr. and Dan Brown of Hillsdale and Tom (Melissa) Brown of Jonesville; 29 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald Carr of Florida.
