Benjamin Reitz Pulver Lansing Passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the age of 79. Born March 15, 1931 to Theodore and Merle Pulver. Benjamin retired from Fisher Body where he worked for 30 years. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a life member of the VFW Post #701. Benjamin was a talented artist, an avid fisherman, and loved classical music. He was a loving father and grandfather that will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, David; and daughter-in-law, Carol Pulver. Surviving are sister, Ellynor Coon; children, Corbyn (Mark) Hanley of Portland, Sean (Amy) Pulver, Cyndi Tarasevic and Kait Carpenter all of Lansing; grandchildren, Mandy Brzezinski, Corinne Mills, Megan FitzPatrick, Sean Patrick Pulver, Audrey Hanley; great-granddaughter, Avery FitzPatrick and several nieces and nephews. The family sincerely thanks the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for their special care. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home. Whether hiking, fishing, hunting, tending garden or merely grilling dinner, Garry was happiest when he was spending time out-of-doors, particularly when accompanied by family. When forced inside, he could be found tinkering in the garage. He was a kindhearted man who will be sincerely missed by all who knew him well. He is survived by his two children, Daniel and Brian; mother, Jacqulyne; brothers Robert, Charles (Kellie) and Todd (Gretchen); numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Bev Zajac.

Gary liked to help other people; he was very active in his church, the 7th Day Adventist Church, and since his retirement loved to travel. Gary recently married the former Marge Matts, on May 2, 2010 in Cheboygan. He is survived by his wife, Marge; his son, Gary A. (Kara) Provo of Cheboygan; his granddaughter, Leah Jean Provo; his step-children, Nick (Michelle), Mike, Matt (Sky), Jason (Stacey), Desiree, Ashley, Amy and Amanda; 11 step-grandchildren; a brother, Dean Provo of Cheboygan; and sister, Theresa (Don) Parrott of Indian River. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann; sister, Bonnie Monville; and grandmother, Belle Provo. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held on Friday July 2, 2010 at the 7th Day Adventist Church on Lafayette Street at 1 p.m., with Pastor Paul Calvelage officiating. He has been a resident of Branch county since 1957, moving from Sturgis. Gene was self employed, hauling milk for the Pet Milk Company in Angola, Ind., for 26 years, retiring in 1990. Following his retirement he worked in construction with the local Amish and at the Wal-Mart Garden Center in Coldwater. He also continued to run his auctioneering service, which he very much enjoyed. Gene’s family was the most important thing in his life. He enjoyed going on family trips, camping and playing cards. He loved people and will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ida Smith; sons, Larry (Natalie) Smith and Earl (Cathy) Smith, both of Coldwater, Scottie (Melissa) Smith of Bronson; daughters, Arlene (Bob) Weddle of Bronson and Connie (Chuck) Anthony of Coldwater; brother Fred (Charlene) Smith Jr. of Bronson; sisters, Gela Matthews and Winifred Wells, both of Florida and Minnie May Nolen of Sturgis; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Guy A. Bullock, 85, of Three Rivers, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at his home. He was born May 22, 1925, in Schoolcraft, a son of Arthur and Arvilla (Heckelman) Bullock. On Feb. 16, 1948, he married Betty Smith in Elkhart, Ind. Guy was a full-time farmer in the Constantine and Three Rivers area for many years. He was the last dairy farmer in Constantine Township, operating until 2005, when he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Guy enjoyed being a judge in tractor-pulling contests at fairs and at plowing contests. Guy also served as a St. Joseph County 4-H leader. He truly loved his family, and his life as a farmer, earning numerous awards for his efforts. Surviving are his wife Betty Bullock, Three Rivers; daughters Christine (Carl) Carlisle of White Pigeon and Ellen (Al) Omo of Constantine; sons Garth (Lori) Bullock of Constantine and Norman (Donna) Bullock of Constantine; sister Eva Ann Snyder; 11 grandchildren, Jamie Wine, Bryan (Marielle) Bullock, Benjamin Bullock, David Omo, Amanda and Brandon Hemminway, Jenni Carlisle, Jeff (Amanda) Carlisle, Kori, Kyle and Trent Bullock; nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Cynthia and Mason Carlisle, Abbey and Alex Carlisle, Luke and Isabell Bullock, and Jasmine and Cody Wine. Born on August 8, 1913, in Belding, Michigan to the late Bert and Arvilla Danford, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Samuel E. Stanaway and three brothers, Lawrence, Gordon and George Danford. Irene M. Divelbiss, age 63, of Mendon, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at her home. She was born Jan. 30, 1947, in New Kensington, Pa., a daughter of William and Mary Jane (Imm) Kremer. She was a graduate of Robert Morris Junior College in Pittsburgh, and had resided in Mendon since 1975. She married Lee Divelbiss in 1973. Together, they operated Lee’s TV Repair and Variety Shop in downtown Mendon. Their marriage ended in divorce, and Lee died in 1999. Irene had worked at TH Plastics in Mendon. She was also a U.S. Census Bureau worker and later worked for Bob’s Auto and Truck Repair in Mendon and Three Rivers. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, puzzles and karaoke music. Irene is survived by three children, Brian Huckstep (Tisha) of Oak Park, Ill., Lee Divelbiss of Coldwater and Janet Divelbiss of Lansing; 11 grandchildren; five sisters, Judith Gross of Canonsburg, Pa., Norma Jean Dice of New Kensington, Pa., Donna Chippeaux of Tampa, Fla., Rose Hughes of Colon and Shirley Dash of Mishawaka, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bethann Divelbiss; a sister, Carol Townsend; and a brother, William Kremer Jr. Cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at West Mendon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ward Pierce officiating. (Valeriano) Florante. She had been an area resident since 1984, graduating from Lakeview High School in 1987. She attended KCC until 1989 and was the recipient of the Golden Key scholarship, then graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. After graduation she worked for the Sturgis Journal for three years, then with the Battle Creek Enquirer for 11 years. Khristine then spent the last four years at home with her daughter Madison. On Nov. 28, 1992, she was united in marriage to Stephen C. Elliott, at St. Philip Catholic Church. He survives. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and participated in the church choir. She enjoyed reading, writing, lighthouses, traveling to northern Michigan, camping, photography, watching her daughter “Madi” play soccer, was an avid fan of the Red Wings, MSU and Tigers, and loved spending time with her family. Surviving is a daughter, Madison Anne; her parents, Epifanio Florante, M.D., and Victoria V. Florante, M.D.; a sister, Karenn (Raymond) Vernagus of Lansing; a sister-in-law, Melissa (Joseph) Audette of Climax; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several grandparents, aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Leon Henry Rydant Leon Henry Rydant, 87, of Harrison Township, lost his battle with Alzheimer's on June 28, 2010. He was born in Detroit, MI on February 10, 1923, the son of Charles and Emilie Rydant, both deceased. Leo will be remembered by many for his energy and enthusiasm for life. He never met a stranger and loved his family and friends dearly. He retired after working 39 years from Michigan Bell Telephone Co. Leo enjoyed life to the fullest, including spending time with family and friends, fishing, gardening and traveling. He was also a member of the Belgian/American Club since 1989 and was very dedicated to his church, St. Louis Catholic. Surviving Leo is his best friend and wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Betty), along with their daughters, Laura Frincke and her husband John, Michele Oldham and her husband James, his son, Douglas and his wife Janice. He is also survived by his grandsons, Daniel Frincke and his great-grandchildren, Zackery and Tessa Frincke, Timothy Frincke and his wife Tiffany, his great-granddaughter Ella Ann Frincke, and his grandsons, Jonathan Frincke and Matthew Rydant and his wife, Judith, his great-granddaughter, Hazel Amelie Rydant and his granddaughter, Alyssa Rydant. Marilyn Jean (Wilt) Moran, 78, of Palmyra passed away peacefully on Saturday, June26, 2010, at her home,surrounded by herloving familyand underthe careof Hospiceof Lenawee. She was born on July 9, 1931, in Blissfield, Mich., the daughter of Harlan and Clara (Meirley) Wilt. Marilyn was the Valedictorian of the Blissfield High School Class of 1949. She was awarded a scholarship, but declined it to work on the family farm. Soon after, she went to work for Toledo Auto Light, where she met her husband of almost 57 years, Edward Moran. On July 31, 1953, Marilyn was united in marriage to Edward in Blissfield, Mich. They lived in Toledo, Petersburg and eventually settled in Blissfield in 1964. She and Edward went on to raise seven sons and one daughter, all whom attended Blissfield Schools. She devoted her life to raising her children and tending to her home. Marilyn enjoyed bowling with the girls, reading and spending time with her family. Surviving is her husband, Edward Moran of Palmyra; five children, Eddie (Lorraine) Moran of Toledo, Ohio, Pat Moran of Palmyra, Mich., Brian (Regina) Moran of Sandusky, Mich., Kelley (Todd Johnson) Moran of Adrian, Mich., and Timothy Moran of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Fayetta Steffen of Adrian, Mich.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, David Steffen, Michael and Sean Moran’ and three brothers, Elmer, Ray and Norman Wilt. She was a lifelong and faith filled member of St. Mary of Assumption Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society. Mary was a devout catholic, very devoted to the blessed Virgin. She married Marvin J. “Red” Smoker on Sept. 22, 1951 in Bronson. They shared 59 loving years together. Mary Elizabeth Olney died Sept. 6, 2009, in Orlando, Fla. She was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Detroit, a daughter of Joseph W. and Katherine (Kennedy) Pattison. Lt. William H. Olney, dressed in his officer’s Naval uniform, stepped off the elevator of the Aetna Building in Detroit and met the prettiest girl he had ever seen. They married in 1943. The war years were spent at air bases, where he was a pilot and flight instructor. After the war, they moved to Leonidas, where they lived and raised their children. Together they owned and operated Galesburg Michigan Speedway and Hastings Raceway. Mary managed the business aspect of the speedways. Mary is survived by her children, Dr. Mary (Doug) Anderson of Leonidas, and Lynda Olney (Dave) Robertson and Lucey Olney of Orlando; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brother, Allen R. Pattison of Port Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, William H. Olney Jr.; and her brother, Joseph Pattison. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Mendon Cemetery, with the Rev. Canon Meredith Hunt of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.

Norma lived her whole life in Lansing, also spending much of her time at her lake cottage in Harrison, MI. She was a Charter Member of St. Gerard Catholic Church where she was active volunteering in the Honor Guard, assisted with communion and was a member of the Catholic Women Business League. Norma enjoyed volunteering as attendant at the surgical lounge at Sparrow Hospital, greeter at Lansing Ophthalmology, delivered Meals on Wheels and donated time at the Ingham County Health Department Flu Clinics after retiring from the State of Michigan Departments of Health and Education. Norma enjoyed traveling, craft work, gardening and dancing. She is survived by her loving children, Joseph Hey, Denise (David) Pamment and Timothy (CynGay) Hey; five grandchildren, John (Julie) Hey, Sarah (Joseph) Giron, Andrew Pamment, Calder Hey, Amanda and Heidi Giron; great-grandson, Peter Giron; cherished friends, Claude Young and Beverly Bristol; sister-in-law, Helen (Hey) Frayer; and several loving nieces and nephews. Everyone attending laughed, as they understood the joke of being the bride and groom in the grade school play. Paul was an active citizen in his community, participating in many local activities. He retired as a salesman for Longwood Elastomers. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10 at the North Adams Baptist Church. Son Michael will conduct the service. Another service will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the Little Manatee Park in Wimauma, Fla. She was an avid baker, having won first place in an apple pie baking contest and had baked all of her children’s wedding cakes. She enjoyed taking walks and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her six children, Jomarie (Ron Blaskowski) St. Amour, Kurt St. Amour, William (Penny) St. Amour, Therese (Kenneth) Warner, all of Cheboygan, Andrew (Holly) St. Amour of Wolverine and Alys-Marie Wilkinson of Cheboygan; one sister, Anna-Marie (David) McCormick of Cheboygan; two brothers, Russell (Dorothy) Hudak of Cheboygan and Joe (Ruth) Hudak of Detour; 25 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Paul enjoyed TV and computers, watching football and building model airplanes. Paul is survived by his wife Joyce; daughters Jeanine McElvain of New Haven and Susan Stahlhood of Quincy; grandchildren Nicholas (Samantha Shaffer) Stahlhood and Cody Stahlhood, all of Coldwater; and his best friend Keith Welch. Mary was born March 22, 1937 in Coldwater to Gerald and Pearl (Fredrickson) Brodt. She married Ralph C. Smoker on Oct. 25, 1958 in Coldwater. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She adored her family and the time they spent together, especially her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her husband Ralph, her daughters Diana (Howard) Elliott of Orland, Deb (Tom) Losinski and Sherri (Tony) Barone, all of Bronson, her brother Glen (Alice) Brodt of Coldwater, his sister Anna Jane (Dick) Fate of Battle Creek and her grandchildren Jennifer, Jonathan and Brandon Losinski and Steven and Stephanie Barone. Robert Gaines Wilbar, age 66, of Adrian, formerly of Tecumseh, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Bixby Medical Center, Adrian. He was born on May 21, 1944, in Lake City, Tenn., the son of William and Gladys (Webb) Wilbar. He married Judy Pinter on April 6, 1968, in Tecumseh. Bob came to the Tecumseh area in 1951 from Lake City, Tenn. He was an avid runner on the track team for Tecumseh High School, attaining many medals while there. He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church, Adrian, was very dedicated to Christian Education, and enjoyed singing. Bob was a Veteran of the United States Army, then worked as a custodian for the Tecumseh Public Schools for more than 20 years and was a very successful salesperson for West Bend Cookware. He was a loving father who enjoyed bragging about his family, was a very kind and gentle man and will be missed by his family and all those who knew him. He is survived by one son, William (Susan) Wilbar of Adrian; two daughters, Jeannine (Frank) LaVoy of Tecumseh and Laura (Mark) Gilbert of Valparaiso, Ind.; one brother, James (Maria) Wilbar of Fullerton, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara (Melvin) Scheffler of Clinton, Mich., Liza Phairow of Shoreline, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Zach, Kendra, Alexis and Andrew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Wilbar-Machan and Julie Parrish. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of the Handler Funeral Homes, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 28. Pastor Doug Rogers of Berean Baptist Church, Adrian, will officiate. Visitation will also be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. on Monday until the time of services. Sister Anne Starcevich, formerly known as Sister George Marie Starcevich, died on June 25, 2010, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 96 years of age and in the 79th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Anne was born in Chicago, Ill., to George and Mary (Bezan) Starcevich. Sister graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich. She received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich., and a Master of Education Degree from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. Sister spent 59 years ministering in education in Delray, Detroit, Munising, Dearborn, Alpena, Utica, Owosso, Saginaw and Ann Arbor, Mich.; Toledo and Cincinnati, Ohio; Elmwood Park, Homewood, Riverdale and South Holland, Ill.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Guayama, Puerto Rico. She was Principal at St. Lawrence School in Utica for six years, and one year at St. Francis of Assisi in Ann Arbor, both in Michigan. Sister was School Secretary for nine years at Queen of the Apostles in Riverdale, Ill. She was Librarian for five years at St. Elizabeth Seton High School, and Development Office Assistant for four years at Seton Academy, both in South Holland, Ill. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich., in 1997. Sister Anne is survived by three sisters, Georgianne Caputo of Norwalk, Ohio, Catherine Malone of South Holland, Ill., and Rosaline Starcevich of Alsip, Ill. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. She also was a member of the Senior Center in Adrian.   Surviving are her daughter Joan (Richard) Lockwood of Montpelier, Ohio; her son Dean (Raquel) Austin of Apache Junction, Arizona; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Elden (Mary) Zimmerman of Montpelier, Ohio and her sisters, Thelma Munsell of Perrysburg, Ohio and Phyllis (Richard) McCloe of Brooklyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Mike, a grandson Lance Lockwood, a sister Lela Shinaberry and by her brothers, Lowell and Cisco Zimmerman. He spent most of his childhood in Michigan. He was a graduate of Colon High School and the University of Central Florida. He graduated from Stetson Law School, St. Petersburg, Fla, in 1994 and was class president. Bill was from a medical family and spent his professional career defending physicians and hospitals. Shortly before his death, he became a partner in his Orlando law firm. Bill’s parents owned stock car race tracks, and Bill grew up with, and loved, automobile racing. He was a poet, a storyteller and he loved to laugh. Bill is survived by his sisters, Dr. Mary (Doug) Olney Anderson of Leonidas, Lynda (Dave) Robertson and Lucey Olney, both of Orlando; and by nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Mendon Cemetery with the Rev. Canon Meredith Hunt of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
