Alvera 'Trudy' Wessel Alvera "Trudy" Wessel, age 83, of Macomb Township, died February 20, 2010, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Wessel and her husband lived and operated their family farm at 19 Mile and Schoenherr. She was a former member of St. Matthias Catholic Church. Mrs. Wessel was a private duty nurse for many years; she loved nursing, reading, and sewing. She is survived by her children, Harold (Cathy) Wessel, Jr. of Macomb, Steven (Maryann) Wessel of Macomb, Cynthia Woityra of Macomb, Veronica (Boris) Kocijan of West Virginia, Kathryn (Dave) Miller of Georgia; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Camille Rycerz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wessel, Sr. in 2000, and her son-in-law, Richard Woityra. Barbara Ann Hall, nee Bensinger, 76, of Saint Joseph, Michigan died Wednesday night, February 25, at her home surrounded by family and friends. Barbara was a graduate of the Zeeland High School and attended Michigan State College.  She served in a leadership role for numerous community organizations such as the Krasl Art Center, First Congregational Church of Saint Joseph, Women's Fellowship at Church and Community Concerts.  She was also one of the founders of the Ala Carte Cooking School. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Willis and is survived by her son Jeffrey (Cynthia), her daughter Mary and grandsons Alexander (Lindsey) and Bartholomew. Visitation will be from 5PM to 7PM at Monday at Starks Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St Joseph, Michigan 49085.  A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Avenue, Saint Joseph, Michigan 49085 at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 2. She was born on Wednesday, March 12, 1930 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late William J. Salley and Charlotte Korte Salley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James R. Murphy; a daughter, Salley M. Graff; an infant daughter; a granddaughter, Shannon Kathleen Murphy; two brothers, Willard J. Salley and James P. Salley; a brother-in-law, Martin Green; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Green. She was a retired registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Clemens, Mich. and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where she was active in many church groups. Surviving are her sons, Patrick J. Murphy of Huddleston, Va., James W. Murphy of Moneta, Va.; her grandchildren, Timothy M. Dellis and wife, Ashley; Beth M. Bays and husband, Nolan, Patricia A. Murphy, all of Huddleston, Va.; her great-grandchildren, Emma Jo Bays, Walker Dellis, Jack Dellis; a sister-in-law, Louise Salley of Huddleston, Va.; as well as many nieces & nephews. Gloria was born October 18, 1954 to Faye and Elvis Matheny in Paris, Tennessee. She graduated from Howell High School, Michigan Christian College, and attended Oklahoma Christian University. Gloria married Mark Sessums on May 29, 1976. She loved being a mother and enjoyed working at JoAnn Fabrics, Country Inn, Kirlin’s Hallmark, Party America, H&R Block, and Advanced Auto. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Faye Matheny; and father-in-law, Henry Allen Sessums. She is survived by her husband, Mark Sessums; four children, Amber and Tim Mazeikis, Holland, Amy and Josh Hayes, Mountain View, CA, Brooke Sessums, Holland, Brett Sessums, Hamilton; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Timberlyn,  Fiona Mazeikis, Alexander Bay; brother, David and Diane Matheny; father, Elvis and Joann Matheny; mother-in-law, Beulah Sessums; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gloria was a member of Lakeshore Church of Christ. During her 27-month battle with breast cancer, she never lost her sense of humor or concern for others. She enjoyed history, antiques, genealogy, travel, music, line dancing, bird watching, and reading. Gloria donated her body to MedCure and the American Cancer Society for research and education. Isabel M. Miller Isabel M. Miller, age 101, of New Baltimore died Friday, February 5, 2010. She was born August 2, 1908, in Mount Clemens to the late Joseph and Florence (Guiette) Miller. Ms. Miller was a teacher at Denby High School and later at Wayne State University. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Marygrove College and her Master of Music degree from the Detroit Conservatory. A member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Mount Clemens, she was active with the Altar Society and was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Baltimore. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity. She enjoyed jewelry collecting and was active at the Village of East Harbor in their music programs. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 95 Market, Mount Clemens. Peter August Schmaus Peter August Schmaus, age 60, of Macomb, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at home. He was born September 9, 1949 in Detroit to August and Mabel Schmaus. After growing up in Berkley, Mr. Schmaus joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving proudly during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an operating engineer for 35 years at Local 324 and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Schmaus was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a strong-willed man with a heart of gold who will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Debbie, whom he married April 20, 1974 in Royal Oak; his children, Chad (Mandy) Schmaus of Chesterfield Township and Corey (Mark) Paraski of Eastpointe; siblings, Bobby (Terrie) Schmaus and Barb (Joe) Urbis; grandchildren, Olivia, Tanner, and Nola; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Carlo. Theodore George Kashouty Theodore George Kashouty of Leesburg, Florida died suddenly at his home on Friday, February 19, 2010. Ted was born on February 18, 1956, in Detroit, to Theodore and Mary (Farac) Kashouty. Raised in Roseville, he spent his youth playing sports with lifelong friends Rick DeLorme, Charlie Morris and Dave Brown. Having lived in many states, Ted loved the southern climate and finally settled in Florida in 2003. There he was the director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee. His co-workers met to honor his life and service at a memorial on February 21, 2010. Separated so often by distance, Ted always remained in touch and very dear to us all. He is remembered as easygoing, generous and loving, and will be forever missed. Ted is survived by his wife, Leah Smith-Kashouty; sisters, Kathryn (Patrick) Wilson and Karen (William) Taylor; nieces, Amy (Matthew) DesJardins, Jennifer Wilson, Julie (Douglas) Childerhose, Lori Wilson and Katy (Jason) Gill; and 11 great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to Fred and Shar Kashouty, Ted has many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who mourn his death. A memorial service will be held at the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church, 17150 Maumee Ave., Grosse Pointe, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010.

A 1956 graduate of Belleville High School, she was employed a K-Mart for almost 20 years. Geraldine had been an active member of the Allen Pythian Sisters and also belonged to the Wednesday Night Bowling Combo in Coldwater. At one time, she was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross. Survivors include five children: Edith, Debra (Paul) Lindemann of Hillsdale, Raymond Hollingsworth of Allen, Kathryn (David) Stayner of Quincy and Kevin (Jodi) Hollingsworth of Coldwater; three sisters: Darlene Leavitt of Reading, Linda From of Lake Okeechobee, Fla. and Nancy Marson of Litchfield; three brothers: Lee McRae of Quincy, Allen McRae of Horton and Richard McRae of Reading, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren Preceding her in death were her parents, sister Judith McRae and great-grandson Paul. James A. Mingus, age 88, of Burr Oak, Mich.,  passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1922, in Hardin County, Ky., a son to the late James and Judith Mae (Cundiff) Mingus. On Sept. 11, 1947, in Kankakee, Ill., he married Beverly E. Keeslar.  She passed away Aug. 24, 2002. James moved to Burr Oak in June of 1955.  He was employed as a school teacher in public schools for 26 years.  He taught two years at the one room Culver School in Colon and was the 6th-grade teacher in Burr Oak for 24 years.  He then taught for six years at the Sturgis Christian School before retirement. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an active member of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene and had been involved as Sunday School Superintendent, Financial Secretary, Usher, and in the Nazarene Caravan Scouting Program to name a few.  Surviving are one daughter, Naomi Mingus of Ladoga, Ind.; four sons, David (Peggy) Mingus of New Hope, MN, Mark (Crystal) Mingus of Sturgis, Mich., The Rev. Paul (Sherrlyn) Mingus of Richmond, Ind., and Joel (Diane) Mingus of Burr Oak, Mich; 13 Grandchildren, Justin, Melanie (Ben) Brown, Joel Jr. (Lauren), James, Timothy (Katie), Jonathon (Crystal), Rebekah, Joanna, Rachael, Leah (Justin) Beckett, Luke, Faith, and Caleb; four great-grandchildren: Benjamin Brown, Isadora Mingus, Aubriane Brown, and Tallulah Mingus; two brothers, Robert (Jeanette) Mingus and Philip (Carole) Mingus; two sisters, Tina (James) Woodall and Phyllis (William) Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly, and two brothers, Edward Dean Mingus and Roy Mingus. Survivors are their six children: Linda (Tim) Cook of Battle Creek, James (Mary) Bennison of Kalamazoo, John (Tong) Bennison of Richland, Bruce Bennison of Battle Creek, Debra Contreras of Indiana and Steve Bennison of Albion. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Opal and Arthur were members of the Rayborn Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church in Coldwater. Opal spent most of her life caring for others at hospitals, nursing homes, and private homes as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed her family, friends, flowers, making crafts and fixing meals for anyone that came to visit. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was always known for her kind and generous heart and would give anything she had to someone in need. The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks for the many years of care and kindness during Opal’s stay there. Phyllis M. Gawlik Phyllis M. Gawlik, age 83, a resident of Eastpointe, Michigan, died February 25, 2010, in Sterling Heights, Michigan. She was born November 5, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan. Phyllis was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish, Harper Woods. She is survived by her children, Mark (Cheryl), Brian (Melinda), Karl (Jane) and Kimberly (Michael) Kowalski; nine grandchildren, Aimee', Megan, Hillary, Kyle, Cameron, Brandon, Tyler, Philip and Derek; and one great-grandchild, Aubree. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward. Visitation today, 4-8 p.m., Sunday, 1-8 p.m. and Monday, 10:30 a.m. until time of 11 a.m. funeral service at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road (south of 18 Mile Rd.), Clinton Township. Robert L. Meyers, 80, of Blissfield passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian. Bob was born on March 12, 1929, in Blissfield, the son of Clarence and Marguerite (Reynolds) Meyers. On April 9, 1953, he married Marilyn Rothfuss. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Blissfield High School, served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War and retired from Owens-Illinois in Toledo in 1987. Bob was a member of the Blissfield American Legion and VFW, and served on the Blissfield Fire Department for 23 years. In his free time, Bob enjoyed fishing and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn Meyers, of Blissfield; four children, Steve (Joni) Meyers of Adrian, Stephanie Hoagland of Palmyra, Shelley (John) Jordan of Blissfield and Stacy (Roger) Mitchell of Blissfield; two sisters, Fran (Bud) Bohs of Blissfield and Phyllis (Don) Maves of Oregon, Ohio; a brother, Kent (Holly) Meyers, of Oregon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Craig, Todd and Ryan Meyers, Nicole (Jason) Giles, Neil Hoagland, Jr., Benjamin Hoagland, James (Tammy) Jordan, Lindsey (Randy) Gallup, and Alex and Grant Mitchell; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield with the Rev. Joe DiMarco officiating. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m., and on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Robert Taylor Asher Robert Taylor Asher, age 90, of Detroit died February 23, 2010 at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He was born September 30, 1919 in Fort Knox, Ky. Loving husband of Lois for 63 years. He served in the Army in World War II and was devoted to his children and grandchildren. Also survived by his children, Jesse Coleman, Diane Pollock, Sharon, Louise, Susan (Alexander) Strohecker, Robert (Marcia), Craig (Michelle), Michael (Tamara) and predeceased by son, David. 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Visitation Saturday from 4 till 9 p.m. at the Walter Scott Skupny Funeral Home, 28605 Gratiot, Roseville (2 blocks south of 12 Mile Road). Interment will be Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery, Corbin, Ky.
