Audrey Mae Bailey Lung, 82, of Florence, S.C., and formerly of Sturgis, Mich., went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, May 23, 2009, in a Florence health care facility after an illness. Ms. Lung was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Fred and Edna Juanita Garrett Bailey.  She retired in 1985 from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis.  She was a member of the Moose Lodge #579 and the V.F.W. Post 1355, both in Sturgis, and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Florence.  She was an avid bowler and golfer, and loved playing cards. Ms. Lung loved spending time with grandchildren, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Evelyn Lee. Surviving are two sons, Harold Eugene Lung of Florence and Richard D. (Carol) Lung of Sturgis; a brother, Fred D. (Tid) Bailey of Florence; two sisters, Emily Williams and Sylvia (Heyward) Miller, both of Florence; a special friend, John Smith of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Jason Richard (Wendy) Lung of St. John, Ind., and Janel Rae (Jack) Conklin of New Haven, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Adam Scott Lung, Miriam Rae Lung and Maya Janel Conklin; and a number of nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery in Florence.  Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence is assisting the family with arrangements. She was born November 28, 1935 in Bay Port, Michigan, daughter to the late John & Garnett (Barr) Wisenbaugh. She married Ronald G. Vincent Sr. on January 2, 1953 in Armada, Michigan. She worked many years as a cook for the former Ruth's Restaurant in Marlette. Clara enjoyed playing Bingo, Quilting, Embroidering and most of all, her family. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Sr. of Marlette, three daughters; Rhonda & Dale Kaake of Cass City, Michigan, Pamela King of Marlette, Michelle & Vernon Clapsaddle of Marlette, one son; Ronald Jr. (Pamela) Vincent of Gagetown, Michigan, one brother; Floyd Wisenbaugh of Owosso, Michigan eighteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, several brothers & sisters and one granddaughter, Christie. CLARENCE S. RADER APPLEGATE Clarence S. Rader, age 70, a resident of Applegate passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Sanilac Medical Care Facility in Sandusky. He was born on October 22, 1938 in Carsonville, a son of the late Willard and Emilie (Schroeder) Rader. Clarence worked at Stokely-Van Camp in Croswell for many years. He enjoyed his John Deere tractor and was an avid collector of model John Deere tractors. Clarence also loved horses. He is survived by one sister; Louise Paterson, one brother; Cliff Rader both of Deckerville, several nieces, nephews, many great nieces, great nephews and many many great-great nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by four brothers; Louis, Charles, Robert and Carl and one sister, Ruth McComb. July 27, 1932 - May 22, 2009 Charles Don Wilson, 76, of Morenci passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon, Ohio, following a period of failing health. He was born July 27, 1932, in Fairfield Township, Mich., the son of H. F. and Ruby (Yates) Wilson. He married Lola Sue Collar on December 20, 1953, in Angola, Ind., and she survives. Don was a life long Morenci area resident and retired from General Broach in Morenci in 1994. He graduated from Morenci High School Class of 1950 and served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954.  Don loved music and played guitar for a number of years. He also enjoyed woodworking and cooking.  Surviving Don besides his wife, Lola of Morenci, are three children, Jo Rea (Jerry) Keene and Connie Mirelez, all of Morenci, and Donald Alan (Cassie) Wilson of Kentwood, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Missy) Keene and Deborah Mirelez of Morenci, Joshua (Heidi) Keene and Nathan Mirelez of Adrian, Gideon and Greyden Wilson of Kentwood and Jessica Mirelez of Grand Rapids; and seven great-grandchildren, Marissa, Jared and MacKenzie Keene and Ethan McCowan, all of Morenci, and Chynna and Malik Mirelez and Heliel Williams, all of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Jay (Nora) Wilson of Fairfield and Robert (Jan) Wilson of Morenci, several nieces and nephews. Charles F. ‘Chuck’ Norris of North Adams passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the “Mac” McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. He was born June 24, 1938 in North Adams the son of Robert and Gladys (Leonard) Norris. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Bonnie (Bonsteel) Norris whom he married on Oct. 9, 1965. He is also survived by one son, Scott (Vicki) Norris of Saginaw; two grandchildren, Dalton and Dylan Norris; one brother, Larry (Cindy) Norris of Danville, Va.; two sisters, Sally (Tom) Andrews of Reading, and Amy (Daniel) Moore of Oviedo, Fla; one sister-in-law, Marilee Norris of Tecumseh; mother-in-law, Dorothy Bonsteel of North Adams; step-mother, Norma Norris of Hillsdale; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Norris. Chuck served his country in the United States Marine Reserve. He worked for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections in Jackson for 30 years and retired in June of 1997. He also enjoyed farming and gardening and spending time outdoors. At his request cremation has taken place and a memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Charles F. “Chuck” Norris will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Paul Hane officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Hillsdale. Chester F. Emerson, 74, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009, in the loving presence of the Lord in Sylvania, Ohio. Chester was born on Jan. 27, 1935, to James Russell Emerson and Donnie Isbell Uptain in Alabama. He met the love of his life, Ruby Sanderson, and the two were joined together on July 2, 1954, in Adrian, Mich. Together they shared over 54 years of marriage and happy memories.  Chester and Ruby made their home in Blissfield where they raised three children.  Chester made his living at Ace Drill in Adrian for over 30 years, and then went into business for himself working on tool and cutter grinding. He enjoyed many family activities and trips back home to Alabama. Chester enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and most recently his great grandchildren. Chester, along with his wife, were faithful members of the Blissfield Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Ruby Emerson of Blissfield; two children, Charles (Heidi) Emerson of Britton, and Janine (Doug) Emerson of Monroe; son-in-law Jerry Lippens of Blissfield; four grandchildren, Amanda (Jr) Iffland of Blissfield, Nathan Fuller of Monroe, Bradley (Tiffany Smith) Emerson of Sylvania, and Mackenzie Lippens of Blissfield; and his first two great-grandchildren, Blake Edward Iffland and Samantha Jean Emerson. Also surviving are two brothers, Clovis (Earlene) Emerson and Gene (Donna) Emerson, both of Alabama; two sisters, Earlene McKinney of Alabama, and Willie Mae (George) Hagy of Blissfield; and many special nieces and nephews. Chester joins those who went before him in heaven including his parents, youngest daughter Robin Lippens, eight brothers, and five sisters. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Blissfield Baptist Church in Blissfield, with Rev. Tom Frantz officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Darrell R. Curtis, age 72, of Constantine, Mich.,  passed away  Sunday, May 24, 2009, at his home. He was born April 20, 1937, in Butler Township, a son of  Lloyd W. and Margaret (Lampman) Curtis. Darrell graduated from Quincy High School in 1956 an served in the U.S. Army.  On Nov. 12, 1966, he married Erma Birkey in Coldwater. Darrell worked in sales at Dynamax Corp. in Elkhart, Ind., for 10 years and previously  for Carriage RV in Millersburg, Ind. He was a former member of the F.F.A and Flying Hooves 4-H Club in Quincy and served as a judge at fairs and shows. Darrell also enjoyed traveling, fishing and golfing. Mostly he loved his family, friends and enjoying life. Surviving are his wife, Erma Curtis, Constantine; a sister , Diannia (Jim) Smith of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers,  Dennis Curtis,  White City, Ore. and Doran Curtis of Quincy; a brother-in-law, Dale Paul of Quincy, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Curtis and Margaret Jeannette Curtis Wilcox; a brother, Leland Curtis; and a sister, Karen Paul. Relatives and friends will be received 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where religious services will be held at 6 p.m.  Wednesday. Donna Grace Bystry 85, of Monroe, Wis., and formerly of Bronson, Mich., died May 22   at the Angelus Retirement Community in Monroe.  She had been in failing health.                                       Donna was born on Aug. 27, 1923, a daughter of Robert L. and Myrna (Rogers) Kellett in Orland, Ind. She was raised in Orland and  graduated from Orland High School in 1941.  She married Edward Bystry on Dec. 26, 1943, at St. Mary’s Catholic Rectory in Bronson.  They were lifelong residents of Bronson. Prior to her retirement, she worked for the Bronson Public School System at Anderson School for over 20 years.   She was a member of the Branch County Historical Society and was active in their fund raising efforts.  She enjoyed the Bronson Public Library, sewing, crafts, crossword  puzzles, dominos with close friends, and visiting her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Edward; her children, son Michael (Cheryl) Bystry of Monroe,  daughter Linda Whitehouse of Evanston, Ill., son Joseph Bystry of Flowermound, Texas, daughter Kay (Mike) Walsh of Crystal Lake, Ill., son Robert (Jenifer) Bystry of Glen Ellyn, Ill., son Larry Bystry of Fishers Ind.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Barkowski; her sisters-in law, Velma Bystry and Martha Kellett; and many nieces and nephews.  She was proceeded in death by her parents; her sister Alice, in infancy, her sister Mary Jane Boes, her brother Robert W. Kellett, her sister Ann Sellers and brother-in law Donald Sellers, brothers-in-law Albert Bystry and Frank Barkowski, and brother and sister-in-law Vern and Eleanor Galloway.  Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson, with Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of  Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church, with  Father Richard Fritz officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bronson. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Branch County Historical Society, the Bronson Public Library and Hospice of Monroe, Wis.   |

Edsel F. Burnor, age 90, of Britton, passed away May 22, 2009. Edsel was born Nov. 29, 1918, in Deerfield, Mich., the son of Floyd and Edna (Opel) Burnor. On Aug. 16, 1947, he married Margaret Osburn and she survives. He was a graduate of Deerfield High School. Edsel was a veteran of World War II, serving as a military police in the Pacific. He retired from Tecumseh Products after many years of service. While working at the Products, he also engaged in farming. After retiring, he spent winters in Florida and enjoyed gardening, farming and fishing.  Besides his wife,  Margaret, he is survived by his sons, Richard Burnor and Larry (Amy) Burnor;  grandchildren, Jeffrey (Erika) Burnor and Sarah Burnor and great-granddaughter, Isobelle Burnor. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Johnny; sister, Ruth Langschied and brother, Max.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the  J. Ethel Rita Collyer, age 90, of Adrian died Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility. She was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Petersburg to Theodore and Mary Ann (Miller) Miller. She was married to Clifford Collyer on Feb. 26, 1936, in Adrian. He preceded her in death in 1991 after 53 years of marriage. Ethel had been employed by Bixby Medical Center as a nursing assistant, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Ethel was known as Grandma by many new moms and babies. She was special enough to be with her daughters when they delivered six of her grandsons and bathed and cradled them first. She was known for her beautiful yard and flower garden. Ethel loved to sew, collect recipes, crocheting, and to cook many birthdays and Sunday dinners and anything that pertained to her family. Ethel is survived by a son, Larry (Kay) Collyer, of Benton Harbor; four daughters, Karin (Jim) Osika of Twentynine Palms, Calif., E. Ann Zemnickas of Farmington Hills, Mary Willnow (the late Melvin) of Palmyra and Jackie (Virgil) Osgood of Adrian; a sister, Margaret (Leon) Brugger of Adrian; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, three granddaughters, one great-grandson and nine brothers and sisters. The funeral liturgy will be offered Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Bob Schramm presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. He married Clara Ellen Hill on July 14, 1951 in Dryden. Eugene served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Military Police. Mr. Bailey worked at General Motors Truck & Bus for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Eugene enjoyed bocci ball, fishing, camping, hunting and woodworking. Eva Elizabeth Allen Lapeer Eva Elizabeth Allen, 81, of Lapeer for 37 years (formerly of Pontiac) passed away Tuesday (May 19, 2009). She was born February 28, 1928, in Pontiac, to Percy and Elizabeth (Burby) Irwin. She married Lyle John Allen on July 19, 1944 in Pontiac. Eva worked for over 17 years at Metamora Products. She loved sewing, knitting, playing cards, going to the casino, Tiger baseball, Red Sox baseball and, most of all, her family. Evalyn Rose Angle Metamora Evalyn Rose Angle, 75, a lifetime Metamora area resident, passed away Sunday (May 17, 2009). She was born January 13, 1934, in Oxford, to James Milton and Mildred Elizabeth (Mitchell) VanWagoner. She married Frederick Michael Angle on April 10, 1952 in Lapeer. Mrs. Angle was a nurse for many years for Dr. Lapor and at Fergusons. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed golfing and motorcycling. Evalyn was considered to be very artistic and creative, shown by her sewing, painting and gardening. Ultimately, she loved spending time with her family. Forrest Hurley, former resident of the local area, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009, in Greenville, Texas. He was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Siloam, Ky., the son of George W. and Carrie M. (Ball) Hurley. Gerald A. Binkle 1936-2009 Gerald A. Binkle, 72, Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Port Huron. He was born on September 2, 1936 in Harbor Beach to the late Albert and Martha (Abraham) Binkle. Gerry was a graduate of Harbor Beach High School, where he lettered in football as quarterback, basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. Gerry played for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and in the Canadian Baseball League with the Listowel Ontario Baseball team. He also played in the Huron County Baseball League, the Harbor Beach American Legion Team and the Harbor Beach Carlings Team. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He is survived by his siblings, Eugene Binkle, Harbor Beach, Ralph (Dorothy) Binkle, Port Hope, Dorothy Skinner, Traverse City and Esther Binkle, Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews. Harold R. Missimer, 97, of Muskegon, died Thursday, May 14, 2009. He was born in Woodbine, Kansas on April 21, 1912, to David and Myrtle (Sidler) Missimer. He married the former Mary Gladys Graham April 21, 1935 and following her passing married Pearl Grindley. Mr. Missimer, a lifelong farmer, as well as a skilled toolmaker, concluded his working life with the Michigan State Highway Department for 10 years. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a lifetime active member of the Tucson Model A Ford Club. He traveled all over the U.S. He was well liked and entertained often at Sanctuary at the Oaks, singing, whistling and telling stories. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include son, Roger (Jane) Missimer of Muskegon; daughter, Lucile Missimer of Haslett; grandchildren, David (Linda) Missimer of Illinois, Catherine (William) Marlin of Colorado, John (Keri) Missimer of Illinois; great-grandchildren, Cody Missimer, Wilson Marlin, Jane Marlin, Abigail Missimer, John David Marlin, Andrew Missimer; sister, Evelyn Jost of Nevada and special friend, Eva Green. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Gladys, in 1983 and second wife, Pearl, in 2002. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 18 at Central United Methodist Church-Muskegon with the Rev. Harriet J. Terrill, age 86, of Hudson, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Harriet was born on Aug, 23, 1922 in Jackson, the daughter of John and Ella (Rinehart) Shoemaker. She married Frank J. Terrill on April 4, 1959 in Vandercook Lake, and he survives. Harriet was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family. She enjoyed sewing, crafting and taking care of her family. Jack E. Lennard, age 70, of Adrian, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center.  Jack was born Aug. 11, 1938, in Adrian, the son of George and Frances (Maybee) Lennard.  He graduated from Adrian High School with the Class of 1956. He then attended Adrian College. On Oct. 28, 1989, Jack married Donna Vogel in Adrian. Donna, his wife of over 19 years, survives.  Jack and Donna enjoyed many years of traveling together to historical sites and antiquing throughout the United States. Jack was the owner/operator of his family’s business, Adrian Laundry Company, for 22 years.  He worked with the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department in their mounted division. In 1992, Jack retired from the Madison Township Fire Department where he had served as a volunteer firefighter for 31 years.  In his retirement, Jack drove truck for L & M Trucking and made deliveries for Performance Automotive, NAPA, and Hubbard Auto Center. He worked at the Lenawee Country Club as a groundskeeper. He also worked at Lynwood Manor as a driver where he was dearly loved by the patients and staff. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by two sons, Raymond (Kara) Lennard and Mark Lennard; a granddaughter, Nicole Lennard, and close friends, Annie Ringkvist and her son, Daniel, all of Adrian; a brother, Thomas Lennard of Coldwater; his mother-in-law, Marguerite Vogel of Adrian; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service for Jack will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with Madison Fire Department Chaplain Chris Cadwallader officiating. John A. Azevedo, M.D. of Kalamazoo passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 as a result of an automobile accident. John was born on Aug. 5, 1954 in Ft. Wayne, Ind., to Gastao and Dorothy (Johnson) Azevedo. He loved, above all things, his family, especially his daughters, Lauren and Lindsay, and his two dogs, Eboni and Onyx. He was an avid snow and water skier and an extreme sports enthusiast. John was known to drive race cars, bungee jump and whitewater raft. He was an outstanding cardiologist and never tired of touching his patient's lives. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by everyone who knew him. June was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, bike riding, and working outdoors in her garden.  June is survived by three children, David Buchanan and wife, Shelley, of Three Rivers, Andrew Buchanan of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Mary Hamminga and husband, Michael, of Defiance, Ohio; four grandchildren, Ryon Buchanan, Tom, Dan, and Sarah Hamminga;  one brother, George Yeager and wife, Roxy, of Oshtemo; a sister-in-law, Ima Jo Buchanan of Jackson; and nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell in 2003; and two brothers, Paul and Clarence Yeager. Lanny Kay Fee, age 60, of Coldwater, died on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at his residence. He was born on Sept.  5, 1948 in Coldwater, to Hiram P. and Marian (Isenhower) Fee, Jr. His mother survives. He married Faye (Stetler) on March 17, 1972 at Stokes Chapel United Methodist Church in Montgomery, and she also survives. He retired in 2008 from Coldwater Public Utilities, after 37 years of employment.  He was a 1968 graduate of Coldwater High School, and a United States Army Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of the Coldwater American Legion Post. He attended Stokes Chapel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his grandchildren and following their ballgames. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, traveling, being with his friends and family, telling jokes and having fun.   In addition to his wife, Faye Fee of Coldwater, and his mother, Marian Fee, also of Coldwater, he is survived by four daughters Martha Fee of Brownwood, Texas, Dawn and Steve Myers of Quincy, and Rachelle and Nathan Roby and Brooke Fee, all of Coldwater; one sister Carol and Robert Hagaman of Coldwater; three brothers Gary and Tanis Fee of Seattle, Wash., and Ronald and Barbara Fee and Roger and Leslee Fee, all of Coldwater; grandchildren Kyle, Logan, Bailey, Austin, Tyson and Kayden; and several nieces and nephews. Leroy Wayne “Bud” Tout, age 78 of Three Rivers, Mich., died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, where he had been a patient for six days. He was born in Centerville, Ind., on Jan. 26, 1931, the son of Olin and Lola (Baker) Tout. Following graduation from Centerville High School he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 through 1954. Bud took business and accounting courses at Western Michigan University over the next four years. He was employed at Continental Can Company in Three Rivers for 25 years, and upon the plant closing worked for Crest in Shelbyville, Ill., for 5 years, then returned to the Fonda Group plant in Three Rivers. Following his first retirement, he worked for Lynch Oil Company, the Three Rivers Post Office and the White Pigeon Post Office over the next 14 years. Bud was a member of the Three Rivers Elks. He enjoyed golf and was a former member of the Sauganash Country Club. He bowled in leagues while living in Illinois. He enjoyed all sports, camping, fishing, and banjo music. He especially enjoyed travels with his wife, and had visited every state except Hawaii. Leroy was married to Dorothy “Dottie” Farley on Dec, 31, 1959, in Three Rivers. She survives, along with three children, Bobby Price, Lori Holder (Tim) and Michael Tout, all of Three Rivers; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Strait of Sturgis; a sister-in-law, Joan Halsey of Bellevue; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Slater; and a brother, Thomas Halsey. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel of Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 523 Maple St., Three Rivers, with Pastor Kyle Foster officiating. Military interment will be in Riverside Cemetery by Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170. Memorials may be directed to either the Olympic Bible Project, or the Mount Pleasant Mission Project, both in care of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, or the St. Joseph County Chapter of the Michigan Right to Life. Guza in 1970 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Parisville. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1999., She is a graduate of Sandusky High School. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. Lucinda S Wyse Attica/Lapeer Lucinda S Wyse, 80, of Attica/Lapeer, passed away Wednesday (May 20, 2009) She was born June 4, 1928, in Breslau, Ontario, Canada, to Roy and Magdelena (Weber) Snyder. She married Robert A. Wyse on April 21, 1951 in Midland. Mrs. Wyse worked at Vesley's and Trayco for 12 years each. She enjoyed sewing, reading and quilting. In Lucinda's retirement, she was a caregiver for many senior citizens. She was proud to have received her U.S. Citizenship in the last 5 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Carol Y. Wyse of Swartz Creek, Joyce E. (Fred) Spohr of Arlington Heights, Ill., Bruce (Helen) Wyse of Attica; granddaughter, Andrea J. Spohr. Marlin Keith Potter, 85, longtime Hillsdale resident died Monday, May 11, 2009, while traveling home from Florida. He was born in Reading Feb. 25, 1924, to Ora and Katie (Richardson) Potter. He graduated from Reading High School in 1942. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in the Pacific. He was assigned duties as Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner and flew forty missions over Iwo Jima and neighboring islands aboard the B-24 "Star Eyes." After the war he returned to Michigan and attended Michigan State University where he received a Bachelor's degree in education before returning to the Hillsdale area to teach biology and coach football, basketball and baseball. In 1952 he began work at Hillsdale Tool and Manufacturing Company as shipping clerk. Over the years he served in various executive capacities until reaching the presidency in 1983. He retired in 1989 to enjoy golf, fishing and travel. Group affiliations have included the First Presbyterian Church, Hillsdale City Council, vice president of the American Cancer Society, vice president of the United Way, president of the Lions Club, board member at Key Opportunities, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, the Michigan State University Alumni Association, Hillsdale Golf and Country Club and the President's Club at Hillsdale College. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Carlyle and Robert and twin daughters, Catherine and Christine. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Scott) Potter; a daughter, Rebecca (Eli) Michaels of Chicago; a son, Jack (Elizabeth) Potter of Grand Haven and three grandchildren, John, Tom and Amy Potter. Funeral services for Marlin Potter will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsdale with Pastor Patti Beckman officiating. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Melvin P. Stauffer, age 74, of Mendon, Mich., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Three Rivers Health emergency room. Melvin was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Lancaster, Pa., a son of the late Peter and Amanda (Stoltzfus) Stauffer. On Sept. 26, 1959, Melvin married Clara Yoder in Leonidas. He had worked in the RV manufacturing business, retiring from Van Guard Industries of Colon in 1997. Mel enjoyed being with family and friends, and especially delighted in his grandchildren.  He loved walking in the woods and seeing the beauty of God’s creation. Melvin was a member of the New Covenant Christian Fellowship in Burr Oak. ROBERT GUY SOULE AUSTIN TOWNSHIP Robert Guy Soule, age 71, of Austin Township, passed away Monday, May 11, 2009 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was born on August 14, 1937 in Tyre to the late Guy and Muriel (Haggert) Soule. He was united in marriage to Nila Howard on July 13, 1957 at the Ubly United Methodist Church. Robert was a 1955 graduate of Ubly High School. He worked in the Detroit area laying residential brick. He retired from Tower Automotive in 2001 after 44 years. He has farmed on the family farm all his life. He enjoyed his cattle, farming, hunting and fishing trips, gardening and playing euchre. Most of all, Robert truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jan. 29, 1936 — May 21, 2009 Robert (Bob) Parish passed away quietly in his sleep Thursday morning, May 21, 2009, at his home, of natural causes. He was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Meridian, Miss., to Cora and Enoch Parish.  He grew up in and attended Jacksonville, N.C., Public Schools. Bob moved to Michigan in the 1950s where he met his wife, Harriet Jo-Ann Carter. Bob was active in the Labor Union Movement in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. He began his janitorial business in the 1950s/1960s, then moved on to work construction in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and then onto GM where he remained until retirement in the 1990s.  Bob is best known for his work and leadership in the community with such projects as the East Side Project, East Side Basketball Camp and as one of the founders of The Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. He served as President of United Way Lenawee County for many years. He was a strong leader and president in the labor union movement. He fought hard for the rights of his fellow workers and wanted the best for his community. He is survived by the four children he raised with his wife; Debra (Parish) Spann of Chicago, Ill., Gregory Parish of Adrian, Scott Parish of Adrian, and Robin Parish of Adrian. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Dawn Spann-Pierre of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Rosalynn (Nikky) Parish of Adrian; Lamar Parish of Adrian; Jennifer Parish of Cleveland, Ohio; Ashley (Parish) Mirelez of South Carolina; Joshua Donald of Adrian; Misha (Donald) Walker of Adrian; DeShawn Parish of Adrian; Ryleigh Parish of Adrian; Tyler Scott Parish of Jackson; Michael Anthony Powell of Austin, Texas; Scott Torres Parish of Onsted; Nyashia Torres of Onsted; Chris Torres of Onsted; Joshua Torres of Adrian. Robert M. "Bob" Arnott Jr. 1953-2009 Robert M. "Bob" Arnott Jr., 55, Bad Axe, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. He was born on May 22, 1953 in Lansing to Robert M. Arnott Sr. and Nancy Gainor. He married Betty Morley on March 4, 1972 in the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. Bob enjoyed showing his car at car shows, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren, who he loved so much. Surviving are his wife Betty Arnott, Bad Axe; one son, Robert M. Arnott III, Bad Axe; four daughters, Bobbi Arnott, Bad Axe, Vicki Arnott and special friend Jason Siemen, Bad Axe and Jessica Arnott and special friend Josh Sanchez, Bad Axe and Kimberly Arnott, Bad Axe; his parents, Robert M., Arnott Sr., Laingsburg and Nancy Gainor, Bad Axe; five brothers, Chuck Arnott, Bad Axe, Bryan (Gwen) Arnott, Tenn., Craig Gainor, Sterling Heights, Wayne (Debbie) Gainor, Bad Axe and Doug (Bonnie) Gainor, Bad Axe; three sisters, LuAnn (Ed) Blackstock, Bad Axe, Patsy (David) Stokan, Bad Axe and Tina (Dutch) Seley, Elkton; and five grandchildren, Matthew and Chelsy Siemen, Bad Axe, Jayden, Hailey and Mya Sanchez, Bad Axe; brothers and sister-in-laws; Mary (Duane) Jurges, Bad Axe, Joan Maurer, Ubly, Ruth (Elmer) Leese, Port Hope, Nancy Stewart, Canada, Susan (Ron) Piotter, Ubly and Jean Smith, Bad Axe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gerri Lyn Gainor; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Eva Morley; and one nephew Kenny Stewart. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, May 23 at 1 p.m. at his home at 1031 Berne Rd., Bad Axe. Friends may call at the home on Saturday from 1 p.m. and continuing through the afternoon. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City. STANLEY W. PACHLA, JR. CLIFFORD Stanley W. Pachla, Jr., age 55, of Clifford, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Marlette United Hospice with his family at his side. Stanley was born December 17, 1953 in Marlette, the son of Stanley Sr. and Corine (Griffith) Pachla. Stanley graduated from Marlette High School. She attended Mott Community College, where she earned two Associates degrees. She was currently attending Western Michigan University. Timberly treasured her time with family and friends. WILLIAM C. FENNINGSDORF CARSONVILLE William C. Fenningsdorf, age 64, of Carsonville, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 in his home. He was born May 20, 1944 in Lapeer, son of the late William and Josephine Fenningsdorf. He and Lynda S. Conley were married on February 1, 1964 in Lapeer. William was a heavy equipment operator at Michigan Peat for 41 years. He leaves his loving wife; Lynda, two sons; Wayne and Jay (Wanda), one brother; James, three sisters; Norma Brown, Hazel Goodrich and Mary Fenningsdorf, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Walter W. “Wally” McDowell, 57, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born Oct. 19, 1951, in Hillsdale, to John and Gwendolyn (Knot) McDowell Sr. Wally was a former employee of Ford Motor Company in Saline. He was a 1970 graduate of Pittsford High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam era. Surviving are five siblings, Harriet (Les) Rogers of Billings, Mo., David (Theresa) McDowell of Bryan, Ohio, John (Ruth) McDowell Jr. of Osseo, Dale McDowell of Waterford, and Bruce McDowell of Honolulu, Hawaii; aunt, Sherry Duer and uncle, Brook Easton; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. There will be a memorial visitation at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the second floor community room at Hillsdale Place. Private family interment will take place at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Wilma Ruth Bordner, age 91 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 20, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born March 29, 1918, in St. Joseph County, Mich., a daughter to the late Frederick George and Cora Velle (Foust) Cook. Wilma had resided in Sturgis for the past 21 years. Most of her life was lived in the Mendon and Parkville, Mich. area. She was first married to Joseph Garman, he died in 1985. On April 23, 1988, she married Earl Bordner in Mendon. For more than 20 years she had been employed as a secretary for the St. Joseph County Grange Fair Association. In her early life she had worked for Sears Roebuck Company. Mrs. Bordner was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church and for over seven decades she was a member of the Grange organization, both in Mendon and Burr Oak. She volunteered her time with the Sturgis Hospital Gift Shop Guild and knitted many hats and blankets for the OB department of the hospital. For many years she served as a 4-H leader and she enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and crossword puzzles. She is survived by her husband; children, Thomas (Kola) Garman of Sturgis, Bruce (Beth) Bordner of Ortonville, Benjamin Bordner of Sturgis, Michael (Tonya) Bordner of Sturgis, Laura (John) Klinger of Sturgis, Monte (Robin) Bordner of Sturgis and Jean Bordner of Florida; 12 grandchildren, including Tom’s daughters, Taya and Maria; 16 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Linda Bowerman of Vicksburg; and a dear friend, Mary Ann Smith of Sturgis. Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband; a son, Gordon Garman; and grandsons Marcus Mead and Michael Mead. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Wilma Ruth Bordner will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church in Burr Oak. The Rev. Robert Graham will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Private burial of the ashes will take place at the Mendon Cemetery in Mendon. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Bordner’s memory consider the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, 206 W. Main St., Box 91, Burr Oak, MI 49030 or the MSU Extension, 612 E. Main St., Centreville, MI 49032. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
