Barbara Jean Allen, age 33, of Mendon, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at her home, following a long illness. She was born Dec. 12, 1975, in Three Rivers and was the daughter of Roger and Nancy (Smith) Allen. Barbara attended the Pathfinder School in Centreville, where she was a cheerleader for the Special Olympics. She also worked at ARCH Workshop in Sturgis and briefly at McDonald’s in Three Rivers. Barbara loved to ride horses, and showed the family horse, Sundance, at the county fair. She enjoyed playing video games, listening to music and singing. Barbara is survived by her mother and step-father, Nancy nd Jon Crabtree of Mendon; seven siblings, Brenda Austin (Carl) and Lori Higgins (Greg) of Mendon, Kathy Dahl (John) of Arizona, Mike Allen of Los Angeles, Dan Allen (Judy) of Killeen, Texas, Ashley Allen of Kalamazoo, and Scott Allen of Sturgis; two step-sisters, Amy Campbell of Kalamazoo and Luci Falkenberg (Andrew) of Portage; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Allen. The family will received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chuck Lambdin, pastor of the Crossroads Missionary Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dutton Cemetery. Betty Ruth (Pask) Strand-DeSautel, age 83, of the Irish Hills, passed away surrounded by her family on May 26, 2009. Betty was born, Sept. 18, 1925, to MaDonna and Raymond Pask and spent most of her life in Tecumseh and Manistique, Mich. She married Henry Alfred Strand II who was the father of all of her children and preceded her in a sudden death on Jan. 17, 1964. She later married Henry (Hank) DeSautel in 1978 who preceeded her in death on Dec. 19, 2006. Betty enjoyed family gatherings, especially Mother’s Day. She was an avid board game and card player. Betty worked at the Visitor Center in Manistique for many years and liked to camp and travel in her motor home. Betty is survived by 11 children, three step-children; two brothers; numerous nieces and nephews;  64 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh with Father Daniel Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Charles Don Wilson, 76, of Morenci passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon, Ohio, following a period of failing health. He was  born July 27, 1932, in Fairfield Township, Mich., the son of H. F. and Ruby (Yates) Wilson. He married Lola Sue Collar on Dec. 20, 1953, in Angola, Ind., and she survives. Don was a life-long Morenci area resident and retired from General Broach in Morenci in 1994. He graduated from Morenci High School Class of 1950, served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. Don loved music and played guitar for a number of years. He also enjoyed woodworking and cooking. Surviving Don besides his wife, Lola of Morenci, are three children, Jo Rea (Jerry)  Keene and Connie Mirelez, all of Morenci, and Donald Alan (Cassie) Wilson of Kentwood, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Missy) Keene  and Deborah Mirelez of Morenci, Joshua (Heidi) Keene and Nathan Mirelez of Adrian, Gideon and Greyden Wilson of Kentwood and Jessica Mirelez of Grand Rapids; and seven great-grandchildren, Marissa, Jared and MacKenzie Keene and Ethan McCowan all of Morenci and Chynna and Malik Mirelez and Heliel Williams all of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Jay (Nora) Wilson of Fairfield and Robert (Jan) Wilson of Morenci; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, I.C. and Jr. Wilson and a daughter Linda Sue in infancy.  Funeral services for Don will be Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Pastor Dennis Owens officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon until the time of service. Charles Frederick Kline, 84 of Midland passed away March 21, 2009, at Brookdale Senior Living in Midland. He was born May 7, 1924 in Litchfield, to the late Dr. Fred and Hilda (Smith) Kline. He married Lois Brown of Midland on May 29, 1954, who predeceased him. Mr. Kline graduated as valedictorian from Litchfield High School in 1942. He served in the U. S. Navy from June 1943 to June 1946 as an ensign. Upon his discharge he attended Hillsdale College where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. During college he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He then entered the University of Pennsylvania obtaining his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton Graduate School of Business. He retired from Dow Chemical Co. of Midland after a long career in industrial management. As a young man he was very active in 4-H. He raised and exhibited livestock at the local county fair. His love of fairs and livestock continued throughout his life. As an adult he owned harness race horses, which competed at fairs and tracks throughout the Midwest and Canada. He served as Harness Racing secretary for the Midland County Fair from 1958 through 2008. He also served as a director and president on the Board of Directors for the Northern Michigan Fairs and Racing Association. In 2007, Charlie Kline was inducted into the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame. Mr. Kline had a strong desire to promote education. He was an avid supporter of Hillsdale College giving support to various areas within the College, including sponsorship of the Charles F. Kline, Chair of History and Management, which is currently held by Burton Folsom author of “The Myth of the Robber Barons.” He is also a member of the college’s President Club. He is survived by two sisters, Harriet (Ellwood) Janney of Ottawa Hills, Ohio,  and Jane (Dr. James) Roberts of Bonita Springs, Fla.; sister-in-law, Margaret Kline of Hillsdale; 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, James C Kline and Thomas P Kline.   A memorial service begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ, 4100 Chestnut Hill. Interment will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Litchfield at the Mount Hope Cemetery with a luncheon following at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale. Chester F. Emerson, 74, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009, in the loving presence of the Lord in Sylvania, Ohio. Chester was born on Jan. 27, 1935, to James Russell Emerson and Donnie Isbell Uptain in Alabama. He met the love of his life, Ruby Sanderson, and the two were joined together on July 2, 1954, in Adrian, Mich. Together they shared over 54 years of marriage and happy memories.  Chester and Ruby made their home in Blissfield where they raised three children.  Chester made his living at Ace Drill in Adrian for over 30 years, and then went into business for himself working on tool and cutter grinding. He enjoyed many family activities and trips back home to Alabama. Chester enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and most recently his great grandchildren. Chester, along with his wife, were faithful members of the Blissfield Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Ruby Emerson of Blissfield; two children, Charles (Heidi) Emerson of Britton, and Janine (Doug) Emerson of Monroe; son-in-law Jerry Lippens of Blissfield; four grandchildren, Amanda (Jr) Iffland of Blissfield, Nathan Fuller of Monroe, Bradley (Tiffany Smith) Emerson of Sylvania, and Mackenzie Lippens of Blissfield; and his first two great-grandchildren, Blake Edward Iffland and Samantha Jean Emerson. Also surviving are two brothers, Clovis (Earlene) Emerson and Gene (Donna) Emerson, both of Alabama; two sisters, Earlene McKinney of Alabama, and Willie Mae (George) Hagy of Blissfield; and many special nieces and nephews. Chester joins those who went before him in heaven including his parents, youngest daughter Robin Lippens, eight brothers, and five sisters. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Blissfield Baptist Church in Blissfield, with Rev. Tom Frantz officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Visiting hours will be Wednesday for 2 to 8 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association. Darrell R. Curtis, age 72, of Constantine, Mich.,  passed away  Sunday, May 24, 2009, at his home. He was born April 20, 1937, in Butler Township, a son of  Lloyd W. and Margaret (Lampman) Curtis. Darrell graduated from Quincy High School in 1956 an served in the U.S. Army.  On Nov. 12, 1966, he married Erma Birkey in Coldwater. Darrell worked in sales at Dynamax Corp. in Elkhart, Ind., for 10 years and previously  for Carriage RV in Millersburg, Ind. He was a former member of the F.F.A and Flying Hooves 4-H Club in Quincy and served as a judge at fairs and shows. Darrell also enjoyed traveling, fishing and golfing. Mostly he loved his family, friends and enjoying life. Surviving are his wife, Erma Curtis, Constantine; a sister , Diannia (Jim) Smith of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers,  Dennis Curtis,  White City, Ore. and Doran Curtis of Quincy; a brother-in-law, Dale Paul of Quincy, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Curtis and Margaret Jeannette Curtis Wilcox; a brother, Leland Curtis; and a sister, Karen Paul. Relatives and friends will be received 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where religious services will be held at 6 p.m.  Wednesday. Donna Grace Bystry 85, of Monroe, Wis., and formerly of Bronson, Mich., died May 22   at the Angelus Retirement Community in Monroe.  She had been in failing health.                                       Donna was born on Aug. 27, 1923, a daughter of Robert L. and Myrna (Rogers) Kellett in Orland, Ind. She was raised in Orland and  graduated from Orland High School in 1941.  She married Edward Bystry on Dec. 26, 1943, at St. Mary’s Catholic Rectory in Bronson.  They were lifelong residents of Bronson. Prior to her retirement, she worked for the Bronson Public School System at Anderson School for over 20 years.   She was a member of the Branch County Historical Society and was active in their fund raising efforts.  She enjoyed the Bronson Public Library, sewing, crafts, crossword  puzzles, dominos with close friends, and visiting her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Edward; her children, son Michael (Cheryl) Bystry of Monroe,  daughter Linda Whitehouse of Evanston, Ill., son Joseph Bystry of Flowermound, Texas, daughter Kay (Mike) Walsh of Crystal Lake, Ill., son Robert (Jenifer) Bystry of Glen Ellyn, Ill., son Larry Bystry of Fishers Ind.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Barkowski; her sisters-in law, Velma Bystry and Martha Kellett; and many nieces and nephews.  She was proceeded in death by her parents; her sister Alice, in infancy, her sister Mary Jane Boes, her brother Robert W. Kellett, her sister Ann Sellers and brother-in law Donald Sellers, brothers-in-law Albert Bystry and Frank Barkowski, and brother and sister-in-law Vern and Eleanor Galloway.  Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson, with Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of  Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church, with  Father Richard Fritz officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bronson. E. Lester Monroe, 91, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born March 23, 1918, in Harrison to Mortimer Linus and Euphemia Isabel (Merritt) Monroe. He was married June 24, 1940, to Beulah May Stubberfield. They shared more than 63 years together before she passed away in March of 2004. Lester served his country in the U.S. Army as a mechanic and driver during World War II. He worked for various companies, ran a service station, retiring from Watkins Oil where he worked as a diesel mechanic for 31 years. He retired in 1983 and enjoyed many winters in Florida. Lester is survived by his children, Kay (Larry) Hickman, Agnes Monroe-Wyatt, Lois Glassburn and John (Bonnie) Monroe; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons-in-law, L. Francis Glassburn and Richard Wyatt; sisters Grace, Pauline, Viola Almira, and Mildred. There will be a memorial service for Lester Monroe 11 a.m. Saturday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. Daniel Pann officiating. Eleanor Lucille Kennedy, age 77, of Sturgis, Mich., was called home by her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, from Thurston Woods Village. She was born Dec. 28, 1931, at the home of her grandparents in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Gladwyn and Beatrice (Murray) Kennedy. Eleanor graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1950. After working locally for five years, she enrolled at Emmaus Bible School in Oak Park, Ill., and was employed there for 17 years. She later worked for the Regular Baptist Press in the graphic arts department doing desktop publishing, retiring in 2001 and returning to Sturgis. Eleanor was very involved in her churches, the Woodside Bible Chapel in Maywood, Ill., and the Sturgis Bible Chapel in Sturgis. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, walking at the Doyle Center, and was an avid knitter, knitting hundreds of vests for children in Africa. Surviving are two sisters, Laura (Richard) McCoy of Sturgis and Patricia (Frank) Hercinger of Fennville; four nieces, Brenda (Kenneth) Moore of Kalamazoo, Deborah (Larry) Fraylick of Sturgis, Dawn (Paul) Clements of Plymouth and Becky (Michael) Wendlick of Green Bay, Wis.; a nephew, Frank G. Hercinger of Fennville; five great-nephews; a great-great-niece; an aunt, Lucille Holt of Sturgis; numerous cousins; and many close friends, including Florence Ekkel. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5-7 p.m. today at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Services celebrating the life of Eleanor L. Erma M. Miller, 102, of 1995 S-600 W, Topeka, Ind., died at 10:37 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital, Goshen, Ind., where she had been a patient since May 18. She was born May 13, 1907, in LaGrange County, Ind., to James Elmer and Ida (Eash) Miller. On Feb. 8, 1930, she married Ivan M. Miller. He died Oct. 15, 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the Emma Mennonite Church, where she had been active in the W.M.S.C.  She had served as a volunteer at the Fort Wayne State Hospital for several years and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a 1924 graduate of Shipshewana High School and enjoyed quilting and gardening and spending time in her flower beds. Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Allen) Zehr of Bedford, Ind., and Evelyn (Ellsworth) Byler of Sturgis, Mich.;  three sons, Gaylord (Marilyn) Miller of Topeka, Maurice (Norma) Miller of Topeka, and Larry (Fran) Miller of Topeka; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren;  five half-sisters, Ruth Louise Lambright of Goshen, Helen (Wayne) Neff of LaGrange, Rosalie Yoder of Topeka, Marilyn (Lester) Burkey of Hebron, Ind., and Carolyn Dillon of Ligonier, Ind.;  and two half-brothers, Dwight Miller of Goshen and DeWayne (Shelby) Miller of Cape Coral, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Delmar and Ronald Miller; a half-brother, Francis Miller; two sisters, Beulah Stutzman and Charlotte Morningstar; and two brothers, William and Harold Miller. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Emma Mennonite Church, Topeka. Mr. Hurley is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandra Hurley; six daughters, Reva Dahl and husband Doug of Benton, Ky., Vicky Linn of Osseo, Connie McCormik of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tonya Faust of Hillsdale, Dawn Allen of Allen, Texas, Yvonne Zeilan and husband John of Wylie, Texas; son, Randy Hurley and wife Beth of Hillsdale; 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Doug Hurley. Visitation was held Wednesday, May 20 in Quinlan Funeral Home chapel, Quinlan, Texas. Gary Allen Prater of Phoenix passed away at the age of 54 on Sunday, May 24, 2009, as a result of complications from cancer. He will be remembered for his kind heart and ability to make anyone he met feel comfortable. Gary was born Nov. 19, 1954, to the late Fritz Prater and Janet (Raloff) Prater in Adrian, Mich. He served in Germany with the Army in the late 1970s performing peacetime border surveillance along the East-West German border and was honorably discharged in February 1981. Following his return from the Army, he attended and graduated from Michigan State University. Gary found the perfect fit to his amicable nature and dedication to excellence in a career in fine dining food and beverage management. Gary will be truly missed by his life partner of 15 years, Tom Peters; his sisters, Kathy (Roger) White, Connie (David) Breckel, Sherry (Jack) Culver; and brothers, Tim Prater and Mark (Pam) Prater. In addition to his uncle Jim (Waneta) Raloff, nieces, nephews and cousins, Gary will be missed by Tom’s family, which includes his parents, brothers and sisters, and their families. Geraldine O. Adams, 89, of Elkhart, Ind., died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Elkhart, Ind., following an extended illness.   She was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Three Rivers, Mich., a duaghter of Carl and Forest Edna (Leeth) Jewell.   She had lived in Elkhart, Ind., since 2006, coming from Union, Mich.   On April 2, 1949, she married Dan A. Adams in Bristol, Ind. He died Dec. 21, 1980.   During her early life she was employed by the telephone company and was a homemaker and sold Avon products. She was a member of Bettany Missionary Church in Elkhart, Ind., and was a children’s Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and cake decorating.   Surviving are a daughter, Karan E. Holt-Hartley of Elkhart, Ind.; a son, Kenneth E. (Pam) Adams of Elkhart, Ind.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold B. Jewell of Lake City, Mich., and Virgil (Annabelle) Jewell of South Bend, Ind.; several nieces and newphes. Terrill,  86, of Hudson, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  Harriet was born on August 23, 1922, in Jackson, Mich., the daughter of John and Ella (Rinehart) Shoemaker.  She married Frank J. Terrill on April 4, 1959, in Vandercook Lake.  He survives.  Harriet was a loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family.  She enjoyed sewing, crafting and taking care of her family. Leroy Wayne “Bud” Tout, age 78 of Three Rivers, Mich., died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, where he had been a patient for six days. He was born in Centerville, Ind., on Jan. 26, 1931, the son of Olin and Lola (Baker) Tout. Following graduation from Centerville High School he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 through 1954. Bud took business and accounting courses at Western Michigan University over the next four years. He was employed at Continental Can Company in Three Rivers for 25 years, and upon the plant closing worked for Crest in Shelbyville, Ill., for 5 years, then returned to the Fonda Group plant in Three Rivers. Following his first retirement, he worked for Lynch Oil Company, the Three Rivers Post Office and the White Pigeon Post Office over the next 14 years. Bud was a member of the Three Rivers Elks. He enjoyed golf and was a former member of the Sauganash Country Club. He bowled in leagues while living in Illinois. He enjoyed all sports, camping, fishing, and banjo music. He especially enjoyed travels with his wife, and had visited every state except Hawaii. Leroy was married to Dorothy “Dottie” Farley on Dec, 31, 1959, in Three Rivers. She survives, along with three children, Bobby Price, Lori Holder (Tim) and Michael Tout, all of Three Rivers; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Strait of Sturgis; a sister-in-law, Joan Halsey of Bellevue; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Slater; and a brother, Thomas Halsey. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel of Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 523 Maple St., Three Rivers, with Pastor Kyle Foster officiating. Military interment will be in Riverside Cemetery by Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170. Lewis Richard (Dick) Harring passed away at his home in Portage on Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Richard was born in Los Angeles on Oct. 1, 1936, to Carl and Mary (Mercer) Harring, and returned to Hillsdale with his family at the age of 4. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1954. He received his Ed.D from Indiana University in 1968 and later that year joined the faculty of Western Michigan University where he served as a professor in department of education until his retirement in 1997. He loved teaching and felt it was the ideal profession. His family, friends and students knew him as a patient listener, superb and demanding teacher and wise counselor. On Nov. 22, 1974, he married Ruth Ann Myrom. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, as well as his sons, Scott (Aime) Harring of Ballwin, Mo. and Jeffrey (Joan) Harring of Ellicott City, Md; five grandchildren, Adam, Emma, Drina, Sophie and Evan; sister, Jan (James) Tesch of Hillsdale; and niece, Jennifer (Jeff) Potter of Temperance. He was preceded in death by his parents. During the past 35 years, Richard was deeply involved in Indian culture and Hindu religious practices and made 20 or more visits to India. He and Ruth worked tirelessly to establish avenues for study and advancement of Indian philosophy, helping to create a Vedantic Center in the Kalamazoo area. A memorial service was held May 21 at the Sambodh Center for Human Excellence in Kalamazoo and was immediately followed by a Hindu Last Rites ceremony and cremation at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek. Mary Lou Millett, 86, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away May 12, 2009, at Drew’s Place of Coldwater in Coldwater, Mich. She was born July 31, 1922, in Killbuck, Ohio, a daughter to the late Ray and Helen (Pratt) Roach. Mrs. Millett had resided in Sturgis since 1945, coming from Clair and Grand Rapids. On March 13, 1942, she married Dr. J. Earl Millett in Grand Rapids. He died Aug. 9, 1980. Mrs. Millett was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. To say she enjoyed traveling would be an understatement. She traveled all over the world to every continent with the exception of Antarctica. She and her husband’s favorite destination was always Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and the Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Millett was a talented self-taught artist and especially loved oil and acrylic painting, jewelry making and stained glass. She had taken many art classes at Glen Oaks Community College. Mrs. Millett is survived by five daughters, Pamela Ann (Terry) Johnson of Burr Oak, Mary Candice (Jerry) Suszko of White Pigeon, Cyndi (Tom) Flaherty of Cape Cod, Mass., Dr. Kerri Lou (Dr. John Polzin) Millett of Sturgis and Kelli Sue (Shawn Hinds) Millett of Franklin, Tenn.; one son, Dr. Jeffrey Millett of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren, Jon (Marta) Millett of Chile, South America, David (Pam) Millett of Chicago, Michelle (Matt) Olsen of Vicksburg, Dr. Chris Johnson of Bancroft, Mike Johnson of Sturgis, Dr. Amy (Pete) Suszko-Brown of Frankfort, Ill., Dr. Tim Suszko of Fenton, Taylor Polzin, David Polzin and Matthew Polzin all of Sturgis, Joseph Bourcier, Michael Bourcier and Katy Hinds all of Franklin, Tenn.; identical twin great-granddaughters, Nicole Gabrille and Lauren Elizabeth Millett; one brother, Charles Roach of Roseville, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Stephen Fillion, pastor of the St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery., Arrangements were handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. |

Michael Lawrence Patrias, Sr., of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born Aug. 4, 1946, in Garden City, Mich., the son of Theophial and Lovetta (Short) Patrias. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marlene (Burton) Patrias whom he married on Oct. 29, 1979; three children, Charles Kidd of Austin, Texas, Michael Patrias, Jr. of Hillsdale, and Heather (Wes) Barns of Hillsdale; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian (Raymond) Pavalak of Lincoln Park and Margot (John) Brooks of Berea, Ky.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Phillip Patrias. Mr. Patrias was employed at Leutheuser’s in Hillsdale in the body shop division where he received Best in Class Awards from General Motors. He was also a past member of the Michigan Street Rod Association. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Michael Lawrence Patrias, Sr. will be at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will take place in the Wild Cherry Cemetery in Ransom Township. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and  2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Hillsdale. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the family. |

Michaelene Ann Fenste­macher, age 53, of Tecumseh passed away May 23, 2009, at home. She was born Nov. 21, 1955, in Adrian, Mich., the daughter of M.J. “Mike” and Helen (Tuttle) Michael. On Dec. 11, 1976, she married Thomas W. Fenstemacher.  They had two children, Michael Thomas Fenstemacher and Kimberly Lynn Fenstemacher.  Michael­ene spent most of her career working for Adrian Typewriter Sales & Service  — later named Office Plus.  Michaelene served her community as a member of the Adrian Public Schools Board of Education, co-chaired two United Way Campaigns and was a past President of Zonta of Lenawee.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, Devils Lake and traveling.  She is survived by her children, Michael of Kalamazoo and Kimberly of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister, Tamara K. McNeff of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepmother, Frances E. Michael of Sun City, Ariz.; and two stepbrothers. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at J. Neva Gribble, 84, of Chiefland, Fla., went home to be with her Lord, April 24, 2009, in Trenton, Fla. She was born Neva Mae Hapner, Jan. 23, 1925, in Lincoln Township, Isabella County, Mich., to Carl and Teresa Hapner. She was preceded in death by husband Rex Potter in 1999 and husband Roy Gribble in 2004. She is survived by husband, Charles St. Clair, Chiefland Fla.; daughters, Janice (James) Gabbard of Homer, Carlotta (Terry) Rhodes of Dunnellon Fla.; grandchildren, Kimberly (Paul) Owen, Katrina (Brian) Boulton, Jennifer (Scott) McCostlin, Matthew (Candy) Rhodes, Amanda Gabbard and Randy Rhodes; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Earl) Gates, Jean Nunnallee, Beverly (Loren) Jennings; brothers, Leon (Lois) Hapner and Carl (Hazel) Hapner. She was preceded in death by sisters Zelma Gates, Ella Leonard and Marilyn Heathcott. Neva loved her family and made many friends in her travels, her church homes and her neighborhood. She attended Moscow Bible Church when she was in southern Michigan in the summers. There will be a memorial service 2 p.m. June 6 at Moscow Bible Church, 10751 Moscow Road, Moscow, Hillsdale County, located one half mile north of U.S. 12. |

Rosemary Miller, age 59, of Colon, Mich., passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Rosemary was born Nov. 15, 1949, in Alma, a daughter of the late LaVon Burton and Calvin Sutton. On Sept. 21, 1996, she married Ora Miller in Colon. Rosemary had lived all her adult life in Colon. She was a homemaker and had worked at several area nursing homes. She was a member of the Colon American Legion Auxiliary and Colon Lioness Club. She is survived by her husband, Ora Miller of Colon; two daughters, Kimberly J. (Phillip) Day of Burr Oak and Vicki (Shawn) Machan of Fennville; five grandchildren, Tori, Ryan, Parker, Arionna and Brogan; seven brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy A. McCartney, and a brother, Timothy Sutton. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service celebrating the life of Rosemary Miller will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Schipper Funeral Home in Colon, with David J. Farrell officiating.  Private interment of cremains will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.  If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Rosemary to the American Cancer Society.  Envelopes are available at the funeral home.   |

Steven Vance Peterson, 57 of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at his home.  He was born Jan. 22, 1952 in Coldwater to Sigurd and Geraldine (Dressel) Peterson. He was married Feb. 12, 1988 to Margaret Shaffer and she survives. Steven was a former employee of Marquardt  L.L.C. of Livonia, and former longtime employee at Allied Products in Hillsdale. He was an avid bowler and former junior bowling coach in Coldwater. He loved the outdoors and was a fisherman and hunter. Survivors include his wife Margaret; daughter, Jo (Mike) Johnson of Kalamazoo; step-sons, Ian Bernard of Quincy and Aaron (Jennifer) Bernard of Osseo; five grandchildren; sisters, Jean (Jerry) Pottenger of Manchester, Ind. and Dawn (David) Wilcox of Quincy; brothers, David Peterson  and Eric Peterson, both of Quincy. There will be a memorial visitation for Steven Peterson of Monday, June 1, 2009, from 6-8 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Private family interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Ransom Twp. at a later date. William James Buckley, 80 of Coldwater, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the family’s home, located at 481 Dorrance Road in Coldwater with a luncheon to follow. No other services will be held. William was born on Feb. 20, 1929 in Steuben County, Ind. to Martin and Gladys (Lang) Buckley. He married Dorothy Hanson on Feb. 20, 1947. William attended school in the Ft. Wayne area and moved to Branch County when he and Dorothy married. He hauled cars for the Ford Motor Company for over 40 years. He enjoyed woodworking and taking care of his yard. William loved people and was always there when someone needed help. His daughters remember him always fixing the family‚s cars. William is survived by his wife, Dorothy Buckley, his sons; Steven F. Buckley of Coldwater, Gerald A. Buckley of Sylvia, N.C., James C. Buckley of Quincy and Douglas G. (Angelina) Buckley of Belle Fourche, S.D., his daughters; Dale E.(Rob) Janusch of Beulah and Ginger K.(Bill) Acock of Coldwater, his brother, Martin T. Buckley of Coldwater, his sister Sadie Forrister of Coldwater, 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
