Albert M. “Roy” Peterson, age 68, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born Oct. 17, 1941, in Birmingham, Ala., a son of the late Alden W. and Janet (Chalmers) Peterson. Roy had resided in Sturgis since 1954, coming from Evanston, Ill., and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1960. Nearly all of Roy’s working life was involved in the automobile business. For several years he co-owned and operated the Chicken Coop restaurant in Sturgis. Roy was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Quarter Master 3rd class. He was a life member and Past Commander of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW. He also was a life member of Jack Johnston Chapter #88 DAV, Neuman Wenzel Post #73 American Legion and the Eagles Lodge #1314. Roy was also an active member of the VFW Funeral Honor Guard. He is survived by three sons, Major Scott A. (Dr. Kim Struble) Peterson of Washington, D.C., Ryan Peterson of Conyers, Ga., and Brenden Peterson of Sturgis; a daughter, Melissa (Nate) Wager of Sturgis; two brothers, Dr. Thomas C. (Rosie) Peterson of Gadsden, Ala., and Alden Lloyd (Norma) Peterson of Grand Rapids; special friend Virginia Penner of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Mr. Larry Wallman will officiate. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. The Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, Sturgis, is handling the arrangements. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Peterson’s memory consider the First Presbyterian Church, 1320 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091. Brian Scott Wise, age 42, a talented woodworker of Three Rivers, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at his home. He was born April 17, 1966, in Detroit, a son to Robert and Elizabeth Jane (Stiles) Wise. His early life was spent in Sturgis, where he attended Sturgis High School. Brian had lived several years in the Detroit area, where he had been employed as a press operator in the automobile industry. He is survived by two daughters, Sadie Wise of Imlay City and Shyan Kenney of Detroit; a son, George Wise of Imlay City; his parents, Robert and Dee Dee Wise of Sturgis; a sister, Cindy Suydon of Wisconsin; a brother, Michael Struwin of Battle Creek; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Wise; a brother, Todd Wise; a sister, Beverly Shook; and his grandparents. The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Brian Wise will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Bender of the First Baptist Church of Sturgis will officiate. Edward A. Eames, 82, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at Drews Place, Village Green in Hillsdale. He was born Feb. 23, 1927 in Detroit to Walter and Edna (Husson) Eames. He was married March 9, 1956 to Sally Gibson and she preceded him in death Sept. 12, 2009. Ed attended Albion College and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He was retired from Hillsdale Tool. He was a member and former Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, a former member of Hillsdale Community Schools Board of Education, a former member of the Key Opportunities Board, and former Hillsdale County United Way chairperson. Ed is survived by two daughters, Diane Eames of Hillsdale and Christine (Erik) Olson of Rochester Hills; a son, Douglas (Judy) Eames of Auburn, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Walter “Ross” (Stella) Eames of Sun City Center, Fla. Besides his wife Sally, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Rex Eames. Funeral services for Ed Eames will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale with the Rev. Patti Beckman officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsdale. Eleanor Rosalie Thomet, age 89, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 in Portage following a long illness.   She was born in Coldwater on June 15, 1920, the daughter of Arnold and Violet (Decker) Phelps. She was married to Arlo H. Thomet on July 6, 1939 and resided in Burlington for most of her life. She worked briefly at Wolverine, and later at the Fort Custer and Coldwater State Hospitals, where she lovingly cared for children and received numerous commendations.  Eleanor bowled in several leagues and belonged to the Moose Lodge in Marshall.  Eleanor loved to dance. She and husband Arlo were described as “Poetry in Motion” when on the dance floor. She also enjoyed card playing and spending time with her family.  Eleanor is survived by a son and daughter in law, Bruce and Myra Thomet of Traverse City; one daughter, Sherry Thomet of Holland; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlo; a son, Terry Thomet; two granddaughters Deeana Lynn Thomet and Krista Kaye Kolodizieizyck; and a sister, Virginia Wheeler. Cremation has been conducted. Gene D. Popp Gene D. Popp, age 78, of Chesterfield Township, died November 3, 2009, at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. Born June 30, 1931, in Detroit, Mich. He was a retired bricklayer for the City of Detroit, enjoyed golfing and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Survived by his wife, Joann (married May 3, 1952 at Fort Custer); three daughters, Linda Popp of Chesterfield, Carol (Shawn) Shortt of Chesterfield and Jean Ann (Michael) Yatros of Tampa, Fla.; 5 grandchildren, Sean and Kristin Shortt and Alexandria, Christina and Nicolette Yatros. Henry Marvin Ramsby, 83, Cheboygan, passed to the Lord peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. He was born in Detroit on Sept. 22, 1926 the son of Lawrence and Leanna (Gentes) Ramsby. Upon graduation from Wolverine High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Corps and served during World War II as a fighter pilot. He enjoyed flying personal aircraft the remainder of his life. Henry was the C.E.O. and owner of Ramsby Well Drilling in Cheboygan for many years and served on the State of Michigan Well Drillers Board. He was a well respected and successful businessman with a humble, good humored and charitable nature. He enjoyed the Great Lakes and forests and was an avid fisherman and camper. He also enjoyed animals and his dogs Spike and Jack were his outdoor companions. Survivors include his beloved wife and soulmate Mary Kelley Ramsby of Cheboygan; his children, Mary (Joe) Barber of Milford, Cynthia (Charles) Jett of Cheboygan, William Kelley of Cheboygan, Henry S. (Lonna) Ramsby of Traverse City, Michael (Patti) Ramsby of Cheboygan, Timothy Ramsby of Cheboygan and Kristi (Steve) Thomas of Chelsea;  several grandchildren; and great grandchildren. He will be especially missed by his “Poppa Henry” buddies, Alex and Chloe Jett and Achilles and Antasha Barber. Visitation is today from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Christian Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at 2 p.m. also at the funeral home. Jamison G. “Jamie” Pulver, 94, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. He was born Feb. 3, 1915 in Scipio Township to James and Elida (Emery) Pulver. He was married March 3, 1940 to Ruth Bean and she preceded him in death in 1976. Jamie attended the Johnson and Guy Schools, his first teacher was his aunt, Florence Emery Saettel. Jamie was a graduate of Jonesville High School in 1933. Following a short course from Michigan State College, he worked two years in St. Clair County, doing cow production and testing. He entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific area with the 98th Construction Battalion of the Seebees. In 1950 Jamie entered the postal service, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Jonesville American Legion Post 195 and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was also a member of Countryside Bible Church in Jonesville. Survivors include a brother, Elmer Pulver of Osseo; a nephew, John Pulver of Grand Rapids; many cousins; special neighbors, Tony Francis, Larry Smith and Judy Price and a good friend, Dr. Pasty Jones of Litchfield. Funeral services for Jamie Pulver will be 11 a.m. Friday at Countryside Bible Church in Jonesville with Pastor John Lillie officiating. Interment with military honors by the Jonesville American Legion will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur “Bill” Klinck; one brother, Roger Lachmiller and one son-in-law, Terry F. Hoag. Mrs. Klinck worked as a bookkeeper for W.C. Klinck Trucking Company in Allen for many years and she attended New Hope United Brethren Church in Camden. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Janet Josephine Klinck will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 with Pastor Lester Smith officiating. She was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, a daughter to the late Raymond Bishop and Minnie (McCullough) Morey. Mrs. Moore had resided in Sturgis since 1974 coming from California. Prior to that she lived in Columbus, Ohio. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Moore enjoyed crafts and crossword puzzles. She is survived by a son, Robert (Kim) Moore of Bronson; eight grandchildren, Robert Moore, Tonya Dentler, Alissa Moore, Laresa Ashbrook, Troy Moore, Tyler Crew, Travis Crew and Jennifer Crew; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a brother, Corwin Morey of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a very good friend, Gordon Moore; two sisters, Sara Morey and Eleanor Ralston; and a brother, Bobby Keith Morey. Leona A. Hathaway, age 91, of Macon Township died Nov. 4, 2009. Leona was born March 5, 1918, in Macon Township, the daughter of Milan and Jennie (Baker) Avery. On March 7, 1938, she married Sidney Hathaway in Macon Township. She was a lifelong resident of Macon Township and a member of the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene. Leona is survived by two children, Sondra (Gene) Hankins of Houston, Texas, and Ronald (Linda) Hathaway of Clarkston, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Carol Hathaway; four grandchildren, Amy (Jordan) Marinov, Ronda (David) Miller, Kara (David) Powless and Sondra Hathaway; four great-grandchildren, Rachel Hathaway, Jeremiah Cromie, D.J. Jolley and Ryan Hathaway, and a great-great-grandson, Avery Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sidney; son-in-law, Mark Stephens; one brother, Loren Avery, and a sister-in-law, Eula Avery of Tecumseh. Lyle A. Wilcox, 92, lifelong Quincy resident and former township clerk, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Sandy’s AFC Home in Allen. Mr. Wilcox was born in Quincy on April 10, 1917 to Louis and Gula (Hurley) Wilcox. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1935 and immediately went into the family wholesale poultry and egg business with his father and brother. He eventually purchased the business from his father and brother and then sold it in 1956.  In 1939, he married Arlene DePew of Reading. They moved to their home in Quincy in 1943, where he has since resided. At the time of her death in 1995, they had been married 56 years. After selling the poultry and egg business, Lyle and Arlene went to work for the Federal Mogul Corporation in Coldwater for whom he worked 23 years, retiring in 1978. The last three years of his employment were spent with the company in Detroit, where he and his wife lived during the week and drove back to Quincy on weekends.  For 36 years, Mr. Wilcox was the Quincy Township Clerk, retiring from the position in 1991. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Quincy for 30 years and has been a member of the Quincy American Legion Post #157 and Masonic Lodge. He served with the US Navy during WWII and was stationed in Portland, Ore.  Survivors include son Neil (Phyllis) Wilcox, DVM, MPH of Gaithersburg, Md., grandchildren Ryan (Katie) Wilcox of Ypsilanti, Sara (Greg) Tavares of Charleston, S.C., Molly (Mark) Macek of Towson, Md., Tony (Julie) Wilcox of South Bend, Ind. and Tracey (John) Snyder of Osceola, Ind. and great-grandchildren Ashleigh, Haley and Kyle Snyder of Osceola, Ind., Michael Macek of Towson, Md. and Ethan Wilcox of South Bend, Ind.  In addition to his wife Arlene, he was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law Larry and Jeannette (Schaeffer) Wilcox, brother Leslie Wilcox and sister Maxine Kunkler.  Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at the George White Funeral Home in Quincy with Pastor Scott Arnold officiating. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery will follow. Margaret E. (Peck) Gates, age 79, of Union City died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 of natural causes with her loving family at her side.  Margaret was born on April 7, 1930 in Union City to J. Harold Peck and Lena Lucille (Gwinn) Peck. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Union City and graduated from Union City High School in 1947. After high school, she attended Michigan State College and then married Lyle A. Gates.   Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle and their son Ray E. Gates.  She is survived by her daughters Lois (David) Johnson of Niles, Doris (Jeffrey) Priest of Union City, her brother Robert Peck of Haleyville, Ala., and her sister Martha (Donald) Shipe of Ashley, Ind. Margaret had five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Margaret retired from Coldwater Community Hospital dietary department in 2002 after 36 years of employment. Margaret enjoyed crafts, volunteering for 4-H, and was an avid gardener. Marie Faye Hoard, 82, of Allen Township, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1927 in West Unity, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Carrie (Manneville) Clifton. Marie graduated from Reading High School and was a lifelong, devoted member of the North Reading Baptist Church. She belonged to their Mission Circle, WC Club, was active with the Rural Bible Mission/Release Time, and served as the church secretary/treasurer for many years. Marie was a very giving person who had lots of possessions only to pass through her hands. At one time, she wrote for the Reading Hustler as reporter of the North Reading News. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Galloway of Hillsdale, Charles (Cindy) Hoard of Jonesville,  Robert Hoard of Hillsdale; one sister, Mary Maggart of Florida; one brother, Marshall (Norma) Clifton of Reading; and five grandchildren. Mark Patrick Ransom, age 32, passed away to go home with the Lord at 11 p.m. at his home on Oct. 30, 2009, in Portland, Ore. Millard S. “Buster” Lantz, 95, of White Pigeon, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Elkhart General Hospital.  He was born Aug. 4, 1914, to Lester H. and Amanda (Detweiler) Lantz in St. Joseph County, Ind.  On March 6, 1937, he married Helen M. Griffin in Goshen.  She died July 25, 2002. He is survived by three daughters, JoAnne (Karl) Holmes and Nancy Isbell of Elkhart, and Patricia (Tom) Hosler of Bristol; a son, Charles (Sheila) Lantz of White Pigeon; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Richard Lantz and Marion Lantz; a sister Claudine Beach; and four grandsons. Mr. Lantz had been employed as a milk inspector in Elkhart County and worked at Grady Milk Company, retiring from the District Health Department of St. Joseph County, Mich. He was a former Mottville Township trustee and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loved his cat, Zip. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, where funeral services will be  at 10 a.m. Friday. The  Rev. Nora E. Ringler, age 78, of White Pigeon, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2009, in White Pigeon Township, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The family would like to express their thanks to God that there were no other injuries in the accident. She was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Coldwater, a daughter of the late Melvin and Marie (Henchman) Belaire. Nora had resided in White Pigeon for the past 17 years, coming from Sturgis. On Oct. 24, 1927, she married Joseph E. Ringler in Angola, Ind. He died Aug. 18, 2009. Following 20 years of employment, she retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis. For several years, she and her husband were escort drivers for oversize loads. Nora and her husband had been very active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. She enjoyed collecting Avon, crafts and was very talented artistically. Nora taught ceramics in her home and enjoyed painting with Tri-Chem products and sold many of her crafts, ceramics and paintings at area flea markets. She is survived by a daughter, Penny Ann Sprowl of Sturgis; a son, Dale Allen (June) Ringler of Sturgis; six Grandchildren, Heather Sprowl, Becky Marie Ringler, Jackie Nicole Ringler, Joey Ringler, Joseph Ringler III and Trent Ringler; three beloved great-grandchildren; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a stepson, Joseph Ringler Jr.; and a sister, Gladys Bates. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Nora Ringler and Joseph Ringler will be held at a later date to be announced. The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements. Robert E. Downer, 72, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Quincy, Mich., passed away Oct. 16, 2009, in Bradenton, Fla, at his winter home.  Robert was born Sept. 23, 1937, to Wallace and Gladys (Marquart) Downer in Hillsdale.  Both parents preceded him in death.  He graduated from Quincy High School in 1955 and married Jennie Lee Gerber on May 19, 1956.  He also attended the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music from 1959-1962.  After graduation, he became director of Camp Selah Christian Camp, Reading, for 15 years with his wife, Jennie.  He was an active member of East Algansee Baptist Church and currently Calvary Baptist Church, Quincy.  During the winter months, he attended Fellowship Baptist in Bradenton.  He worked the majority of his life as co-owner with his father at W.E. Downer and Son Well Drilling and loved his work and all the people he met during those years. Bob and Jennie loved to travel in the U.S. and to many other countries.  They also loved fishing off their boat in Florida during the winter months. Survivors include his wife, Jennie Lee (Gerber) Downer; one son, Mark Downer, Mooresville, N.C.; one daughter, Karen (Downer) Parman, of Fayetteville, Ga.  Also surviving are two sisters, Nancy (Downer) Strang of Quincy  and Carol (Downer) Turner of Edwardsburg; five grandchildren, Kortney Parman of Atlanta, Ga., Brock Parman of Nashville, Tenn., and Mickel, Taylor and Daylee Parman of Fayetteville, Ga. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Quincy Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Snyder officiating. Jan. 3, 1918-Nov. 4, 2009 Ronald Henry Cooper, age 91, of Clare passed away Nov. 4, 2009 at home. Ron was born on January 3, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to William H. and Ethel G. (Campbell) Cooper. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and attended Central Michigan University for two years. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. Ron worked as a chemist at Dow Chemical Company in Midland for 35 years. He authored 26 patents in his name. He has been a member of the Clare Congregational United Church of Christ in Clare for over 60 years, and held many offices including church deacon. His greatest joy in his leadership roles was being the Church Historian for over 30 years. As the Historian, Ron wrote a history of the church and successfully established the church as a State of Michigan Historical Site, having a State Historical Marker installed. He played baseball for Mt. Pleasant High School and shared the love of the game with his sons. Ron enjoyed gardening and growing tomatoes. He was an avid reader and collected a complete set of original Zane Grey books. As a trustee for the Grant Township Board of Trustees for many years, he served as the Chairman of the Zoning Commission for four years. He joined other WWII veterans who were retirees of Dow Chemical Company on an "Honor Flight" to Washington, D.C. in 2008. During his retirement years he wrote the genealogy history of the Cooper Family, the Campbell Family and a book of his life's personal experiences for his children and grandchildren entitled, "Anecdotes and Never-Never Again". He also assisted in the writing of the history of the Pere Marquette District Library and their stained glass windows. |

Shirley J. (Joy) Wagner age 77 of Colon passed away, Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the Battle Creek Health System. Shirley was born June 2, 1932, in Matteson Township, a daughter to the late Winfield and Ifa Jean (Knox) Weinberg. On Nov. 24, 1948, she married R. John Wagner in Coldwater. Shirley had lived most all of her life in Colon and at her present address for more than 60 years.  She had worked for the former Lamb Knit Co. and had retired from the Colmer Co. after many years of service. Shirley loved to fish, mushroom hunt, quilting, oil painting and was a collector of Garfield. She is survived by her husband, John Wagner, of Colon; four children, Dixie (Charles) Miller of Hastings, Raymond J. (Brenda)  Wagner Jr. of Colon, Steven H. (Judy) Wagner of Bronson and Allen K. Wagner of Pittsburg, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and five sisters. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. 1 p.m. Saturday at the Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. A memorial service celebrating the life of Shirley J. (Joy) Wagner will then take place at 1 p.m., with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Private burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.  If desired, the family suggests memorials by made in memory of Shirley to either the Colon Booster Club or the Colon American Legion Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. |

Verna Rebecca McElroy Verna Rebecca McElroy, age 85, of Macomb Township, passed away November 5, 2009, in Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township. She was born on April 10, 1924, in Alberta, Canada. She was united in marriage with Lewis McElroy. Mr. McElroy passed away on July 10, 2006. Mrs. McElroy is survived by her son, Roger (Maxine) McElroy of Macomb Township; two grandsons, Shaun McElroy and Matthew McElroy; great-granddaughter, Katelynn Ripley; her sister, Orpha Peterson of Canada and seven nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her brother, Archie Nelson. The visiting hours are on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. in the Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 9, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Mark Reynolds officiating. Wayne E. Fairman Wayne E. Fairman, age 89, a resident of Fraser, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in Warren, Michigan. Wayne was born in Detroit on July 13, 1920, a son of the late Eugene Charles and Ellen (Jackson) Fairman. He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Beverly J. Flood on December 27, 1941, in East Detroit where the couple made their first home. Wayne served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Navy. The couple lived in Harper Woods shortly after his return from service and lived there until moving to Fraser in 1978. Wayne was retired in 1979 after working as a safety inspector at the Lynch Road Chrysler Plant for many years. Wayne was a sportsman who enjoyed golfing, baseball, bowling and could beat his grandchildren at pool and ping-pong. Wayne was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Roseville where he volunteered as a counter for several years and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly; his loving children, Janice A. (Daniel) Hill, Jeanne E. Mazur and Robert W. (Phyllis); his loving grandchildren, Scott, D.J., Michael, Laurie, Ryan and Sarah and by his adoring great-grandchildren, Chloi, Caden, Madison, Amanda, Addison and Alyssa. Visitation will be held at the Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 3284 Utica Rd., Fraser, Friday from 2 p.m. till 9 p.m. and Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral services at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township. William Robert Sowle, 85, of Jonesville, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at home. He was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Amboy Township, to Harry and Alla Elsie (Farver) Sowle. He was first married in 1945 to Clara Long and she preceded him in death in 1991. He was married Oct. 17, 1999, to Eva Mae Westfall Lockwood; she preceded him in death July 20, 2009. Robert was retired from Wells Equipment and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany. Robert is survived by two step children, Judy Ann (Charles) Alspaugh of Reading and William Earl (Sharon) Lockwood of Nashua, N. H.; a sister, Chloey Foust of Litchfield; five step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Eva Mae, he was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Clara; three sisters, Elsie, Zelma and Mildred and three brothers, Kincle, Arthur Kelly and Harold Irving. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow at the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jonesville United Methodist Church or the Reading Emergency Unit.
