Dorothy C. Shiffler, 83, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Country Living Adult Foster Care in Hillsdale.  She was born Nov. 3, 1926 in Lucas County, Ohio to Henry and Ina (Dryer) Rothlisberger.  She was married June 29, 1947, to Wilford Shiffler and he preceded her in death in 2001. Dorothy was a 10-year employee at the Kroger Store and retired from the Hillsdale Community Health Center after 22 years of service.  She was a graduate of Pittsford High School in 1943. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.  She was a former Girl Scout leader in Frontier and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Hillsdale.  Dorothy was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include a daughter, Teri (Tom) Atwood of Grant, Mich.; three grandchildren, Michelle (Dustin) Wheeler, Michael (Gequittia) Atwood and Amanda (Kyle) Longcore; seven great-grandchildren also survive; a sister, Charlotte (LaVere) Dear of Osseo; three brothers, William (Hazel) Rothlisberger of Reading, Henry (Susie) Rothlisberger of Brooklyn and Bradley Rothlisberger of Statesville, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and a brother. Funeral services for Dorothy Shiffler are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Patti Beckman officiating.  Interment will follow at Frontier Cemetery.  The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Elder Cleo McCants Elder Cleo McCants, age 75, of New Haven, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, in Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center. Cleo was born January 3, 1934, in Marysville, S.C., the son of the late General and Anna McCants. Cleo was a fireman at the Pontiac Motors Division for 38 years. He retired in February of 2002. Cleo served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and also in the Army Reserves. Cleo also served as assistant pastor at Mount Clemens Apostolic Church. His life's mission was to instruct and care for everyone he came in contact with. Cleo leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jannie; daughters, Betty Stewart of New Haven, Jessie (Willie) Meyers of South Carolina; son Cleo (Sophia) Pearson of Georgia; brother Wilson of South Carolina; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by four brothers and four sisters. Eleanor Marie Clore, age 93, of Onsted passed away at home on Nov. 12, 2009, under the loving care of her family and Great Lakes Hospice. Eleanor was born on Dec. 9, 1915, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Frederick and Nora (Moran) Burger. She married Victor Clore Sr. on April 30, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Clore is survived by her children, Fr. Victor Clore Jr. of Detroit and Frederick (Nancy) Clore of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, LaVerne (Vincent) Rackel of Ohio. In addition to her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her children, Thomas A. and Daniel R. Clore and Margaret Mary Smith; two brothers; and three sisters. Eugene L. Miller, age 82, of Sturgis, passed away late Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born June 26, 1927, in Sturgis, a son of the late Elmer and Elsie (Bush) Miller. Gene was a lifelong resident of Sturgis. He married Virginia Ankney in LaGrange, Ind. She died March 13, 2001. All of his working life was with Sturgis Newport Business Forms. He was a member of the Sturgis Christian Fellowship Center and Loyal Order of Moose #574. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca McAlister of White Pigeon and Kathleen Miller of Sturgis; a son, Phillip Miller of Shipshewana, Ind.; three grandchildren, Aaron, Derrick and Samantha; three great-grandchildren, Dominick, Kaydin and Jaice; a sister, Florence Flowers of Burr Oak; two brothers, Robert Miller and Kenneth Miller, both of Burr Oak; and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn M. Auten, age 81, of Tecumseh passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. Evelyn was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Saline, Mich., to Edwin and Nellie (Mohardt) Gall. In 1945 she graduated from Britton High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert C. Auten, on May 2, 1947. They were married 52 years until his death in 1999. Together they raised three children, traveled the world (36 countries) and all 50 states. Evelyn worked at Universal Die in Saline 13 years, and worked for many years as a Farm Bureau Secretary in her husband and son’s office in Tecumseh. She went on to become Treasurer for the Ridgeway Cemetery Board until her passing. She always remained busy. A member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, she was active in quilting in the Quilting Club, she played cards with the Tuesday group, and baked her famous pies and sugar cookies. Evelyn’s faithful love for family was evident to all. Whether it be through her patient care of Robert in his blindness, her hospitality to friends and family, or her caring voice to her grandchildren. Evelyn was always gentle, kind and humble. “Gramma” would never forget a birthday or neglect sending a card for even the smallest holidays. She showed her love through her faithfulness. Evelyn was a loving Mother to three children, Keith (Bonnie) of Tecumseh, Kathy (David) Koertge of Hartland, Karen (Randy) Wilt of Tecumseh; five grandchildren, Derek (Tina) Auten, Brian (Judith) Auten, Kellie Koertge, Jaime Durand, Kristie Koertge, and six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Evalyn, Ruby Auten, and Parker and Mackenzie Durand. Her parents, a sister, Virginia Hunter, and brother, Lauren Gall, preceded her in death.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Britton with Pastor Doug Adams officiating. He was married April 24, 1976, to Jennifer Mees and she survives. Gary was a postal clerk, formerly employed at the Jackson Post Office. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School in 1968 and also attended Hillsdale College on a football scholarship, coached by Muddy Waters. Gary was an all-around sports fan and loved playing a pick-up game of basketball at any time. She married Bruce Baldwin on March 1, 1986 and he survives. Harriet, along with her husband Richard, owned and operated Collins Real Estate in Hudson for 20 years. She was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church. Harriet enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving person who will be missed by all, especially those who called her "Grandma". Imo R. Brewer, 91, of Angola, Ind. and formerly of  Gilead Twp., Bronson, died on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at the Maple Lawn Medical Care in Coldwater. Imo was born on June 8, 1918 in Gilead Twp., Branch County, to Lorenzo D. and Jennie L. (Johns) Taylor. She married Earl E. Brewer on Dec. 25, 1934, and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1976. She was retired from Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility, Coldwater, and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. She is survived by two sons Earl LeRoy Brewer of Bronson and Terry Wayne Brewer of Angola, Ind.; 14  grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons Gerald, Larry Brewer and Rex Brewer; one daughter Patricia Goings; one grandson Bart Brewer; and her parents. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Ind. Jack Laverne Sines, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  He was born April 13, 1924 in Hillsdale to Samuel E. and Martha (Metcalf) Sines.  Jack was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving four years during World War II.  He was with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Force in the Pacific Area from July 19, 1942 through Nov. 21, 1944, and from July 18, 1945 through Jan.19, 1946.  Jack retired from Hillsdale College where he worked in maintenance, and he belonged to the VFW 7301, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Anthony Catholic Church.  Jack enjoyed fishing, watching and feeding birds, watching Wheel of Fortune, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Mary (Laurell) Sines, whom he married Aug.28, 1947; two daughters, Linda Rowe, Coldwater, Deborah (David) Burke, Hillsdale; sister-in-law Fern Sines, Hillsdale; five grandchildren, Matt (Kelly) Bearden, Andy (Amber) Bearden, Paul Bearden, Cassandra Harmon, and Chad (Chloe) Burke and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father (Frank Madison), two brothers and three sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Hillsdale, with the Rev. Thomas Butler officiating.  Visitation is scheduled at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service.  Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery will be at a later date.  Memorials to St. Anthony Catholic Church are suggested. |

James Dickson James 'Coach' Dickson, Jr., age 77, of Warren, died Nov. 15, 2009, at his home. He was born May 23, 1932, in Detroit. 'Coach' Dickson served in the Korean War while enlisted in the United States Army. He retired from the Detroit Newspaper Association in November of 1989 after 35 years of service. He loved coaching baseball and football for St. Raymond's and at Wish Egan. Janet Eileen Schmidt Janet Eileen Schmidt, age 67 of Clinton Township, passed away on Sunday morning Nov. 15, 2009, in her home. She was born on December 15, 1941, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, a daughter of the late Robert Charles and Betty Minnette (Zielke) Harvey. On February 6, 1960, she was united in marriage with Bernard A. J. Schmidt, Jr. in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waldenburg, Michigan. Mr. Schmidt passed away on Thursday, March 26, 1998, in Clinton Township. Janet had lived at her present address since 1971. Janet attended Heritage Church of Macomb. She enjoyed her grandchildren, going to Metro Beach, traveling and line dancing. Mrs. Schmidt is survived by three children, Bernard (Gelan) Schmidt III of Chesterfield Township, Deborah Schmidt of Chesterfield Township and Michael Schmidt of Clinton Township; two grandchildren, Bernard IV and Lindsey. Also, surviving are three siblings, Marjorie DeVos of Chesterfield Township, Robert (Judy) Harvey of Clinton Township and William (Janice) Harvey of Fort Gratiot, and her friend and companion, Charles Merrell of Madison Heights. Janet was predeceased by her brother, Robert George Harvey. Judy Ann Jones, age 66, of Sturgis, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 9, 2009, at her home, following a battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 25, 1942, in Sturgis a daughter of the late Delois and Betty Jane (Jordan) Lung. Judy resided nearly her whole life in Sturgis with the exception of 16 years when she lived in Colon. On April 15, 1958, she married Fred N. “John” Jones in Sturgis. He died Aug. 9, 1996. Judy had been employed by Olson Body in Sturgis for 17 years. She had also worked at Parma Tube and Midwest Tool and Cutlery, both in Sturgis, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, camping, collecting ceramic dolls, shopping and loved time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Debra (Dave) Shipe and Dawn Casner both of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Chris Shipe, Bobbie Jo Marchand, Heather Jones, Matthew Casner and Ashley Casner; four great-grandchildren, Colin Campbell, Alex Campbell, Tyler Marchand and Cheyenne Frame; two sisters, JoAnn (Larry) Benton of Sturgis and Janet A. Lung of White Pigeon; two brothers, Jerry Allen Lung and Jeff A. (Beverly) Lung, both of Sturgis; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Shelly Mae Jones; a son, Tony Edward Jones; and three grandsons, Nicholas Jones, Brandon Casner and Ryan Casner. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Judy Jones will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Clarence Combs will officiate. Keith H. Cochran, age 81, of Klinger Lake, Sturgis, passed away late Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2009, at Sturgis Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 24, 1928 in Sullivan, Ind., a son of the late Drexel and Mary (Barnes) Cochran. Keith lived most of his life in Anderson, Ind. As a youth, he was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. Following graduation from Anderson High School with the class of 1946, he served in the U.S. Army in the Ceremonial Detachment Honor Guard at Fort Myer, Va., attaining the rank of sergeant. He then attended Indiana University at Bloomington, where he was president of Delta Upsilon fraternity, president of the Little 500 bicycle race steering committee. Following graduation from the Indiana University School of Business in 1952, he was employed at Delco-Remy Division of general Motors Corporation in Anderson, where he worked for the next 36 years, mostly in sales and marketing, the last 21 years in sales management. He married D’Alice Coburn of Anderson on Sept. 13, 1952. While in Anderson he remained active in Scouting for many years, serving as Cub Pack Master, Assistant District Commissioner and District Chairman. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1988. In 1993, he and D’Alice moved to a property at Klinger Lake, near Sturgis,  that they had owned and enjoyed on vacations for many years. In the following years, he was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, member of the Klinger Lake Country Club, board member and president of the Klinger Lake Association, and member and chairman of the St. Joseph County Board of Public Works. He always enjoyed the beauty of Klinger Lake and its wooded shores. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, D’Alice C. Cochran; two sons, Jeffrey H. (Mary) Cochran of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and George T. (Ann) Cochran of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Carolyn C. (John R.) Peat of Elkhart, Ind.; grandchildren Alexandra Cochran of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Scott Cochran, Gregory K. Cochran and Kristin Cochran, all of Indianapolis, and Kayla Peat, Kathleen Peat and Ryan Peat, all of Elkhart, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Drexel Cochran and Mary Cochran Baker; and a brother, Col. Drexel Barnes Cochran. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel,  Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Keith Cochran will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 28, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Michael Wicks will officiate. A graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at the Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson at a later date to be announced. She is survived by one daughter, Kesia (Ryan) Steffien of Brunswick, Ohio; one son, Logan Blalock of Frontier; two grandchildren, Brooke and Cody Steffien; two sisters, Tania (Charles) Allen of Ossineke, Mich., and Darcia (Alan) French of Hillsdale; three nephews, Robbie (Kathy) Allen of Ossineke, Chad French of Hillsdale, and Chris French of North Adams; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a good friend, Darrel Sears; step-mother, Sarah Martin; and step-sisters and step-brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.  Lisa worked at the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department for three years,  the Frontier Post Office as a relief Postmaster for four years and was a Hillsdale City Carrier for one year. She was also a member of the Arabian Horse Association. Melvin Gerald Scheske, age 76, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly early Saturday evening, Nov. 14, 2009, at St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw, Mich. He was born July 26, 1933, in Detroit, a son of the late Edward and Linda (Meggert) Scheske. Mel had resided in Sturgis since 1969 coming from Southfield, Michigan. He married Rita Christian in Detroit. His formal education began at Nazareth Lutheran School in Detroit and he graduated from Alpena High School with the class of 1951. Following his graduation from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp serving during the Korean War from 1952-1955. Upon his return from the Marine Corp he enrolled at Wayne State University in Detroit receiving his bachelor of science degree in 1959. His working career began with Arthur Andersen & Co. where he became a Certified Public Accountant in 1961. He later assumed the position of controller at the Birmingham Eccentric News and in 1969 he joined the Kirsch Company in Sturgis as its chief financial officer a position he held until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he established a tax accounting service that he was currently operating. Mel was a very active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where he had served as president, treasurer, usher and greeter. Prior to that he had taught Sunday school in inner-city Detroit. He was a longtime member of the Sturgis Kiwanis Club where he had served as treasurer for many years and was a member of B.P.O.Elks #1381. He was a past member of the First National Bank, Citizens Bank, Glen Oaks Foundation, Sturgis Hospital and Junior Achievement Board of Directors. Mel was the very proud sponsor of the Scheske Open which was founded in 1977. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita; four sons, Terence (Julia) Scheske of Tupelo, Miss., Ronald (Beth) Scheske of Sturgis, Dean (Peg) Scheske of Canton and Eric (Marie) Scheske of Sturgis; 18 grandchildren, Laura, Greg, Pam, Matthew (Melissa), Brett, Kate, Dan, Christian, Nicholas, Rachel, Alex, Abbie, Jack, Michael, Meg, Erin, Therese and Max; one great-grandson, Andrew; one brother, Vernon (Jan) Scheske of Waco, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. His parents and two brothers, Alvin Scheske and Eldon Scheske preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes - Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Melvin Scheske will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Michael Klafehn and the Rev. Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial donation in Mr. Scheske’s memory be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Ray I. Porter Ray I. Porter, a 63-year resident of Eastpointe, died Saturday November 14, 2009, at his home. He was born April 21, 1927, in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Porter was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired tool and die specialist with Holley Manufacturing Corporation. Mr. Porter was a former Scout Master and Leader of Adults for Scout Troop 1411 in Eastpointe. Over the years he enjoyed golf, painting, swimming and photography. He was also a member of the Church of the Master in Warren, Michigan. Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, Betty L. (Cowan); son, Lee (Pamela) Porter; daughter, Gale Ann (Richard) Willis. In addition are his grandchildren, James (Debra) Bostock, Jessica (Danial) Oberski-Willis, Katy (David) Upton-Willis, Christopher (Babbi) Porter, Andrea (Ernest) Rospierski; and great-grandchildren, Reggie and Marty Bostock, Cole Porter, Molly and Olivia Upton, Scott and Brett Schaft. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. "His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life." Mr. Porter was predeceased by his parents Daniel S. and Eula Belle Porter. Visitation will be Monday 2-9 p.m. and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clyne & Sobocinski Funeral Home, 22121 Kelly Road, Eastpointe. Raymond Alex Kranz, D.D.S., age 64, of Quincy, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at his home.   He was born Aug. 1, 1945 in Bad Axe, Mich., the son of Edward and Agnes (Wencley) Kranz.  Ray grew up in Harbor Beach and graduated from St. Peter & Paul High School in Ruth, Mich.  He joined the seminary and furthered his education at Wayne State University and the University of Detroit Dental School.  In 1973 he moved to Quincy where he practiced dentistry until retirement in 2006.  Ray was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater, the Quincy Rotary Club, Michigan Dental Association, Charley Lyon Loan Foundation, and the Quincy Chamber of Commerce.  He also enjoyed filled his leisure time with golfing, bowling and traveling to National Parks. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo (Huber) Kranz, whom he married July 30, 1971; two daughters, Katherine Kranz, Denver, Colo., Amy Kranz, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Janet (Richard) Gough, Deckerville, Mich., two brothers, Ronald (Frances) Kranz, Romeo, Mich., his twin,  Dr. Richard (Ilene) Kranz, Battle Creek, Mich. and one grandchild, Keegan Kranz His parents preceded him in death. A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Coldwater, with the Rev. Dan Doctor officiating. The Ten R’s lost the world’s greatest dad. Richard L. (Dick) Pranger, 85, of Adams Lake, passed away Nov. 12, 2009. He was the son of Albert and Ida (Grabner) Pranger. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1941 and was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy in the South Pacific from 1943-1946. He owned the Pryofax Gas Co. and was an automobile salesman for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #381 and a member of St. Gaspers Catholic Church. He also served as director of the Adams Lake Conservation Club for 40 years. On June 10, 1948, he married Alice Tieman, who preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1981. On Oct. 10, 1991, he married Kathleen Schneider. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2005. Stowe at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau. After her children were grown, Dorothy pursued her lifelong goal of becoming a nurse, earning first her high school diploma and then her L.P.N. She was employed at Baywood nursing home for several years.One of Dorothy's great pleasures was making clothing for her family. In the early years for her own children, later she sewed everything from bibs and quilts for the little grandchildren and costumes and special touches for everyone. Dorothy also enjoyed gardening, reading and knitting.Dorothy had an excellent memory when it came to family and Leelanau County history, easily relating people, dates and years. In fact, she loved all histories and knew the importance of keeping stories alive for younger generations.She loved attending special events for her grandchildren, taking her grandchildren to the beach, watching the car ferry come into port, being present at sporting events and being involved in special moments. She had a gift for bringing her large family together, especially on Sundays after Mass. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Simon's Parish. Dorothy is lovingly survived by daughters, Carol (Fran) Kalchik and Dianne (Al) Kalchik of Ludington; sons, Edward (Sue) Stowe and Bob Stowe of Ludington, and Dale (Donna) Stowe of Northport; 12 grandchildren, Mark (Joanne) Kalchik, Michelle (Bill) Lynn, Tanya (Jon) Ransom, Ryan (Amy) Kalchik, Courtney Kalchik, Melissa Stowe, Sarah (Martin) Topliss, Amanda Stowe, Warren Stowe, Todd (Nicole) Stowe, Jon (Stephanie) Stowe and Paul Stowe; and 14 great-grandchildren, Alexis Kalchik, Cassandra Kalchik, Olivia Lynn, Madelyn Lynn, Nicholas Ransom, Ian Ransom, Caleb Sheldon, Ella Kalchik, Myla Kalchik, Stowe Kalchik, Payton Stowe, Hailey Stowe, Ashley Stowe and Steele Stowe.Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Stowe; infant daughter, Gail Ann; parents, Thaddeus and Landelin Belanger; sister, Loretta Belanger of Suttons Bay; brother, Theodore Belanger of Lake Leelanau; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Bartlett of Lansing, Cleo Martin of West Point, Ga., and Gladys "Rosalie" Hooper of Lansing; brothers-in-law, Glen Bartlett of Lansing and Roland Dame of Northport.A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at St. Simon's Catholic Church, with Father Wayne Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends at the Oak Grove Funeral Home, Ludington, on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. A visitation will be held again at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Simon's until the time of service. Burial will take place at Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at St. Gertrude Church.Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Simon's Catholic Church in memory of Dorothy.The family has entrusted Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center with arrangements. |

William “Bill” Miller, age 84, passed away  Nov. 13, 2009. He was born July 9, 1925, in Gallipolis, Ohio, the son of Lester and Clara (Shiflet) Miller. On June 20, 1964, he married Clara “Chris” Mann; she survives. Bill was a life member of Adrian VFW Post 1584 and also a member of the Adrian Moose. He had worked in the restaurant business since 1948, opening his first restaurant, Bill’s Grill, in 1961, later followed by the Hi Lo Grill. Bill acquired his real estate license in 1975 and began working at Linehan Realty, retiring in 1992. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Neunzer from 1943 to 1946. In addition to his wife, Chris, he is survived by his children, William “Billy” Miller Jr. and  Pamela Myers; his sister, Patricia (Alex) Carson; sisters-in-law Ruby McKee, Lucille (Jerry) Erb and Jenny Santillanes; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Clara Miller; daughter, Cheri Buono; and siblings Robert “Bob” Miller, Phyllis Leupp and Barbara Miller. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Gene Reitz officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the U.S. Navy Reserve Honor Guard, Toledo, Ohio. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. |
