Charles A. Schrader, age 89, of Centreville, went to be reunited with the love of his life, his wife Blackie, early Tuesday morning Dec. 1, 2009, at his home. He was born July 18, 1920, in Grass Lake, a son to the late Charles and Zella (DeLong) Schrader. Charles had resided nearly his whole life in the Centreville and Sturgis area. On Oct. 5, 1940, he married Orretta Caroline “Blackie” Krontz in Sturgis. She died April 6, 2005. Most of his working life was involved in the construction industry. He owned and operated Schrader Construction Company for many years and he had been employed as a foreman at Land of Lakes Lumber Company in Findley, for several years. He also owned and operated with his wife Schrader Domestic for a number of years. Some of his early places of employment included working as a tenant farmer on the Joe Sturgis Farm and he was an extra gang member with the New York Central Railroad. Charles attended the New Beginnings Church and the Sturgis Bible Chapel for many years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and his work. Charles cherished time spent with his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by three daughters, Mary and Ronald Davis of Iron River, Ola Player of Quinnesek and Leslie and James Pappas of Burr Oak; two sons,  Charles and Faythe Graber-Schrader of Centreville and Jimmie and Betty Schrader of Centreville; 23 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; one sister,  Abigail Augerbright of Centreville; one brother, Leslie (Kathy) Schrader of Colon; brother-in-law, Millard Earl (Martine) Harvey of Colon; sister-in-law, Lorraine Alexander of Three Rivers; many nieces and nephews, including the niece he raised as a daughter and his caregiver; Edith Moore of Centreville.  The family would also like to acknowledge his other caregivers, Jill Counter and Jodi Shears, both of Centreville; former caregiver, Mary Lou Dentler-McNeal of Inverness, Fla.; former caregiver and special friend Rebecca Pappas of Sturgis and special friend Charles Davis of Three Rivers. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Ray Davis; son-in-law, Charles Player; three grandsons, Jonnie Davis, Jason Schrader and Clay Pappas; seven sisters and one brother. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday and 1:30-2:15 p.m. Saturday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Charles A. Schrader will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Larry Wallman will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Nottawa Cemetery in Nottawa. Charles “Charlie” Grabe, age 73, of Sturgis, passed away early Wednesday morning Dec. 2, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born March 23, 1936, in Sturgis, a son to the late Edward and Lila (Roth) Grabe. Charlie was a lifelong Sturgis resident and lived his entire life on the family farm. On Oct. 26, 1974, he married Susan Wooten at the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene. Charlie entire working life was involved in farming and he owned and operated with his family Grabe’s Grain Farm Harvester Hollow. He attended the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene and was a strong supporter and contributor to the St. Joseph County 4-H program. Charlie loved his International Harvester tractors. He enjoyed camping, attending tractor and farm shows and collecting miniature International tractors and International memorabilia. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 35 years, Susan; three daughters, Linda (Kevin) Kelley of Sturgis, Kris (Steve) Zimmerman of Sturgis and Brenda (Jimmie) Schmucker of Middlebury, Ind.; three sons, Mike Grabe, Dale Grabe and Jack Grabe, all of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren, Craig, Nathan, Zach, Ashley, Briann, Nick, Alexis, Cole, Anna, Case, Collin, Brock and Toni; two brothers, Dave (Jeanne) Grabe of Battle Creek and Bob (Wanda) Grabe of Alamo, Tenn.; in-laws, Clarence and Eva Wooten and Betty Johnsonbaugh of Sturgis; and brother-in-law, Wally (Suzanne) Wooten of Sturgis and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene, 70031 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Charles “Charlie” Grabe will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. John Shoup will officiate. Dale L. Jagger, of Camden, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at his home. He was born June 26, 1938, in Camden, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Nevins) Jagger. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis J. (Wortman) Jagger whom he married June 28, 1979; four children, Anson (Meredith) Jagger of Camden, April (Jim) Collins of Warner Robins, Ga., Dennis (Connie) Tonkel of Osseo and Cindy Wyatt of Camden; two daughters-in-law, Sandie Jagger of Camden and Peggy Jagger of Rossville, Ga.; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Donald Jagger of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Phyllis Sharpsteen of Sebewaing, Mich., Ardice Casarda of Hillsdale and Sharon Hukill of San Diego, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Marguerite Jagger of Camden and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, First Sgt. Aaron Jagger and Quinn Jagger; one daughter, Wanda McMichael; one granddaughter, Stephanie Jagger; one brother, Leonard Jagger and one sister, Maxine VanWormer. Mr. Jagger was a life long resident of Camden where he enjoyed working as a farmer all his life. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he was a member of New Hope United Brethren Church in Camden. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Dale L. Jagger will be held at New Hope United Brethren Church in Camden 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23 with the Rev. Don Gentry officiating. Interment will take place in Burg Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church in Camden. Dean Everett McKenzie, age 57, died unexpectedly at his home on Oct. 30, 2009 in Surprise, Ariz. Dean was born March 22, 1952, to the (late) Everett and Eleanor (Sayler) McKenzie. Dean graduated in 1970 from Tecumseh High School. He also earned two master’s degrees from Western International University. Dean worked as a senior test engineer for Honeywell Corp. and most recently ACSS. He is survived by three sisters, Sandy (Jerry) Hayes, Donna (Jerry) Hendershot and Cheryl (Rainey) Lopez; and one brother, Garry (Vicki) Sharp. He is also survived by a very special stepmother, Joyce McKenzie; a stepsister, Connie Allen; and a very special person in his life, Bonnie Allen. A service to celebrate Dean’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at the Clinton United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery at a later date.   |

Douglas Warren Sprague, 80, of Adrian, formerly of Hudson went home to his Lord and Savior, Wednesday evening, Nov. 18, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 31, 1929, in Wright Township to Carroll and Myrna (Harris) Sprague. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan and Korea from 1952 to 1956. On March 16, 1957, he married Shirley Watson in Tecumseh and she survives. Doug had been employed by Tecumseh Products Company, Consumers Power and retired from the Adrian Public School System, where he had been employed for 16 years. Doug farmed and cared for the family farms south of Hudson most of his life. He and his wife, Shirley, owned and operated the Baker Hill Bed and Breakfast in Hudson. He enjoyed flying and had a commercial pilot’s license. Doug was a member of the Raisin Valley Friends Church where he was a trustee. He served as a member of the North Adrian Grange as well as a 4-H leader. His greatest blessing was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved, adored and prayed for every day. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by a son, John (Tonia) Sprague of Cement City; three daughters, Jackie (Wesley) Wickham of Osseo, Michelle (Rick) Brownell of Sturgis, and Heidi (Scott) Cagle of Adrian; siblings, Donald Sprague of Toledo, Shirley Mitchinson of Grand Blanc, Alfred Sprague of Rochester Hills, Shelia (Gordon) Mitchinson of Turnbridge, Vt., Brenda (Eldon) Cattell of Clayton, and Sonja (Tom) Quinn of Dansville; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Brian Beck officiating. Burial will be in Lime Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. Duane K. Bock, age 84, of Milan died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Garden City, Mich., to Joseph and Lelia (Klatt) Bock. On Oct. 9, 1948, he married Jean Clark and she survives. Survivors also include two sons, Ray Bock of Milan and Tim (Julie) Bock of Tipton; grandchildren, Amber, T.J., Zack and Rikkell Bock; Jennica, Mackenzie, Jaron and Kamryn Warner; a brother, Ed (Betty) Bock; and a sister, Shirley Riggs.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond; sisters, Marian Dicks and Virginia Davis; and brothers-in-law, Loren Dicks, Frank Riggs and Jack Davis.                                         Duane attended Lincoln and Milan schools. He drove truck for 41 years and was a retired teamster. He was a member of the Milan Moose and he and his wife, Jean, volunteered many hours with the Milan and Saline American Legion. Duane was well known to many; his jovial personality will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. A celebration in his memory will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at the Saline American Legion, 320 W. Frank J. Popelar, age 89, of Britton passed away Nov. 30, 2009. He was born June 25, 1920, the son of Frank and Genevieve (Trinacty) Popelar. On May 25, 1947, he married Doris M. Stokes in Monroe, Mich., She survives. In addition to his wife, Doris, Frank is survived by three daughters, Marcia (Les) DeMoss of Colorado, Nancy E. Bale of Tecumseh and Patricia (Jim) Pilbeam of Tecumseh; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Wright-Davenport; and two sisters, Frances Thompson and Mary Kozumplik. Frank was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army Air Force. He was retired from the Tecumseh Products Company after 42 years of service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Interment will follow at Marble Park Cemetery in Milan, with military honors by Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard Team. Fred Dulock Fred Dulock, age 70, of Sterling Heights, died November 27, 2009, at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren, Mich. He was born May 5, 1939, in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Dulock was the owner of Fred's Custom Heating/Cooling and was a member of Center Line Rotary. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and discovering different kinds of food and drinks and was an avid reader. Mr. Dulock was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Gail N. Frick, 62, of Butler Township, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Community Health Center of Branch County. She was born Oct. 21, 1947, in Ferndale to Roy F. and Juanita H (Ledlie) Wellein and graduated from Pittsford High School in 1965. She was a secretary for Frick’s Auto Repair & Towing in Butler. Gail was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed casinos and spending time with her grandchildren.  On Nov. 16, 1968, she married David Frick and he survives. Also surviving are son, Pete (Billie Jo) Frick of Quincy; sister, Brenda Wellein of Albion; mother, Juanita Wellein of Jonesville; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and brother Richard. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield with the Rev. Clyde Wonders and Matthew Jensen officiating. Interment will follow in Whig Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Jack A. McClure Jack Allen McClure, age 53 of Ray, Michigan passed away Monday at his home. He was born September 4, 1956, to Harley and Eleanor (Duty) McClure in Huntington, W. Va. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and music, and was a 1974 graduate of Sterling Heights Stevenson High School. Surviving is his mother, Eleanor of Sterling Heights; siblings, Jenny (Jon) Irvine of Clarkston, Rick McClure of Caro and Tim McClure of Macomb; and three nieces and nephews, Jesse McClure, Shannon and Cullin Irvine. Mr. McClure was predeceased by his father, Harley on May 24, 2001. Jane Carol Roberts, 74, of Jonesville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009.  Jane fought a courageous battle with cancer and died at peace with family members by her side.  She was born June 11, 1935, in Chicago to Harold and Gladys (LeBaron) Crider.  She was married Nov. 26, 1960, to Keith E. Roberts and he survives. Jane was a graduate of the Elgin Academy in Illinois and Hillsdale College, later attending Western Michigan University for her graduate studies. Jane worked three years for the Fidelity Title Company and taught home economics at Quincy Community Schools for 10 years.  Jane served as the past president and an honorary member of Hide and Seek Child Study, board member of the Karen Jenkins Nursery School for three years, secretary of the Jonesville Board of Appeals for three years, and vice president of the Quincy MEA.  She was actively involved in the Hillsdale United Methodist Church where she served as the past president of Margaret Sessions Clark Circle, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, and served on numerous other boards and committees.  Jane volunteered for the United Way and worked on cancer drives in Hillsdale and Jonesville for many years.  She was the chairman for Keep Michigan Beautiful of Fayette Township for five years, co-chair of the Jonesville Historic Home Tours.  She was former vice president of the board and Grosvenor Museum Restoration chair for four years.  Jane was an active member of the Jonesville High School Parents Advisory, cheerleader advisor, past region four F.H.A. state advisor, Hillsdale County Extension “Show-Me” Group, and a member of the AAUW of Hillsdale.  She was also the decoration chairman for the Sauk Theatre and past board member of the Hillsdale Camp Fire. Surviving besides her husband Keith are two daughters, Renae (Tom) Stritzinger of Grand Rapids and Amy (Chris) Fast of Hillsdale; five grandchildren Nicholas Keith, Abigail Marie, and Madeline Jo Stritzinger, Bennett Alexander and Ridley Michael Fast. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Jim Crider. At Jane’s request, cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation or services at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville. Jerry Calgaro, formerly of Ironwood, Mich., in Ironwood Township, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 5, 2009, at the VA hospital in La Jolla, Calif., with his children at his side. Jerry was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Ironwood, a son of the late Eugene and Carol Calgaro. Jerry attended Luther L. Wright High School, and served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He was self-employed in the medical field prior to his passing. Jerry is survived by his sweetheart of 22 years, Jo Ellen Roman; four children, Lynn Calgaro, Alan Calgaro, Jan Brancato, and Tony Calgaro, all of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; a brother, Tom Calgaro; nieces, Nicole Dunn of San Diego,  and Rebecca Markey of Denver, Colo.; and a nephew, Scott Gerald Calgaro of San Diego. John C. Pokorney John C. Pokorney, age 89, a longtime Romeo resident, died December 1, 2009, at Medilodge of Richmond. He was born February 2, 1920, in Dubois, Ill. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy June 15, 1944. He was a tail gunner in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, received an American Area Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and an Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon. John worked at Chrysler and was a mailman in Romeo. He married wife, Ruth (Maison) on June 23, 1950, in Mount Clemens. He was a member of the Romeo VFW Striber-McVicar Post 2052 and served as chaplain for many years. John also served on the Macomb County Ritual Team as a bugler and was a member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Romeo; children, Michael (Sherry) of Romeo and Linda (Martin) Meloche of Philadelphia, Pa.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Juanito R. Nieto, age 69, passed away Nov. 30, 2009. Juan was born March 28, 1940, the son of Augustine and Manuela (Ramirez) Nieto. He married Evangelina Coronado on Aug. 27, 1966. Juan was a member of the Iglesia Bautista Cristiana where he was active in the Men’s Club, the Christmas plays, and maintaining the church. He enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting and helping others. He is survived by his wife, Evangelina; his sons, Victor (Patty) Coronado, Ramiro Coronado, Rick (Pam) Coronado; his daughters, Lupe (Ralph) Tonche and Mary (Oscar) Vargas; his brothers, Alex (Manuela) Nieto and Abel (Deanna) Nieto; his sisters, Rita Valdez and Francis (Luis) Solis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Primitivo and Pedro; and his sister, Juanita. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Ralph Vallejo officiating. Burial will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at  J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Merle K. Cox Jr., 69, of Hudson, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee County.  He was born Nov. 8, 1940, in Morenci, the son of Merle F. and Viola (Rudolph) Cox Sr.  He married Vergie (Borton) on Jan. 28, 1961, in Hudson and she survives. Merle retired as a plant supervisor for M & S Mfg. in Hudson in 2001, with over 40 years of service. His hobbies included woodworking, tinkering in the workshop on his son, Dean's excavating equipment and was an avid race fan, helping Fisher's Racing Team at Oakshade Raceway. Merle dearly loved his family and his grandchildren were the love of his life. Surviving Merle besides his wife, Vergie of 48 years are four children, Mark Cox of Adrian, Lynda (Michael) Hepker of Mackinac Island, Dean (Sandy) Cox of Hudson and Shane Cox of Hudson; one sister, Velda Reynolds of Lorain, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.   He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Barbara Brown. At Merle's request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services. Merton C. Wilson, 70, of Hudson, passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at his home, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee County. He was born May 26, 1939, in Adrian, the son of Roscoe C. and Cecil (Cadoo) Wilson. He married Janice Swiegart Sept. 3, 1960, in Hudson and she survives. Mert was a self-employed truck driver for M. Wilson Trucking, retiring in 2006, with over 40 years of service. He graduated from Hudson High School Class of 1957, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Thursday Afternoon Men's Golf League, Tuesday Morning Seniors Golf League and was proud to be a teammate on the 1956 State Championship Football Team in Hudson. Mert enjoyed golf, Hudson football, traveling and dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Surviving Mert besides his wife of 49 years, Jan, are two daughters, Teresa (Scott) Frantz of Hudson and Cathy Johnston of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Charles Wilson of Hudson and Steve (Amy) Wilson of Delta, Ohio; three brothers, Roscoe G. "Jerry" (Pat) Wilson of Manitou Beach, Ray (Donna) Wilson of Hudson and Richard (Peggy) Wilson of Adrian; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; honorary sister, Carrie Jones of Pittsford, and special friend Phelix Wright of Columbus. Paul Kozicki Paul Kozicki, age 55, of Clinton Township, died Friday, November 20, 2009, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Paul was born July 23, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan the son of Daniel F. Kozicki and the late Angeline (Klesk) Kozicki. He was raised in Clare, Michigan until he was 11 years old and then his family settled in Warren. Paul graduated from Lincoln High School and would later achieve his bachelor's degree from Northwood Institute. Mr. Kozicki worked for Chrysler Automotive for more than 23 years as an analyst in the information technology department. When he was not working he continued his passion for computing and computer, along with his love of music and jazz. For many years Paul played the bass. Mr. Kozicki is the dearest husband of Janet. He is the beloved son of Daniel F. and the late Angeline Kozicki. Further surviving Paul are his brothers, Tom Kozicki and Daniel (Chris) Kozicki. He is the cherished son-in-law of Shirley Symonds. Mr. Kozicki is also survived by three nephews. A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, December 5, at St. Teresa of Avilla Catholic Church (formerly St. Dorothy) 12255 Frazho Road, in Warren. Raymond W. Saxman, age 69, of Colon, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, unexpectedly at his home. Ray was born Nov. 16, 1940, in Battle Creek a son of the late Wesley H. and Gertrude C. (Cooley) Saxman. Ray had made his home in the Leonidas and Colon area all his life and at his home on Long Lake since 1968. He graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1959. On Sept. 13, 1963, he married Marilyn Bauder in Leonidas. Ray was active in township activities. In the past he had served on the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Board of Review. Presently he was a Township Trustee, and served on the Fire Board and Lake Board. He was an active member of the Colon Masonic Lodge #73 for 35 years, where he was presently serving as Secretary. He had served as Master in 2002, also as Senior Warden and Chaplin. He was a past member of the Colon Eastern Star, where he had served as secretary. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Ray was active with numerous fundraisers for scholarships, local school activities and members of the community who were in need. Earlier in life he had played for the Orange Machine fast pitch softball team as catcher. He enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, fishing and especially attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Colon; children Debbie (Gary) Herman of Bronson, Michael (Colleen) Saxman of Colon, Laurie Saxman of Colon, Jackie Bowdish of Colon and Bob (Kerri) Saxman of Schoolcraft; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, James L. (Linda) Saxman of Leonidas; three sisters, Judith (Carl) Quirin of Sturgis, Kathryn (Leon) Barrett of Colon and Mary Ellen (Sam) Otterpohl of Land O’ Lakes, Wis.; stepmother Dorothy Saxman of Leonidas; and many nieces and nephews. Rhonda L. (Alexander) Frank, 47, of Adrian passed away at home Sunday, Nov. 29. 2009, after a courageous fight with ALS. Rhonda was born in Eureka, Calif., on Jan. 14, 1962, to Sandy and Steve Alexander. Her son, Trevor C. Loya, was born on March 18, 1992. She married Erik A. Frank on Aug. 26, 1995, and their son, Elijah A. Frank, was born April 2, 1996. The family moved from Eureka, Calif., to Adrian, Mich., in 2005. Rhonda drove her prized Camaro cross-country with one of their sons, following Erik in a rental truck with the other.  Rhonda was predeceased by Grandfather and Grandmother, Elmer and Bessie Alexander, and a sister, Sherry Lynn Todd. She is survived by her husband, Erik Frank; sons, Trevor and Elijah, of Adrian, and stepdaughter, Stephanie (Caleb) (Loya) Halverson, of Troy, Idaho. Also by her parents, Steve Alexander of Glendale, Ore., and Sandy (Jay Cranston) Todd of Fortuna, Calif.; Mother-In-Law, Patricia Hartmann of Adrian, and Father-In-Law, Thomas B. (Maureen) Frank of Eureka, Calif. She is also survived by seven brothers, Kim (Joyce) Alexander of Glendale, Ore., Rick (Trina Curley) of Roseburg, Ore., Brett (Domina) Alexander of McKinleyville, Calif., Josh (Heidi) Alexander of Anderson, Calif., Ted (Mia) Todd of Paradise, Calif., Tony (Amber) Todd of Fortuna, Calif., and Mike Todd of Redding, Calif.; her grandparents, Francis Hartmann of Hanover, Mich., and Isobel Frank of Jackson, Mich.; aunts and uncles, Linda (Hartmann) Sunkle-Pierucki of Norvell, Mich., Dave (Jan) Hartmann of Ann Arbor, Mich., Kenn (Lynn) Hartmann of Kalamazoo, Mich., Carol (Dennis) Gilbert of Jonesville, Mich., and Kyle Hollis of Jackson, Mich. Rhonda was lovingly cared for at home during her extended illness by her family, Hospice of Lenawee, and caregivers and friends.  ALS of Michigan provided some assistance with care-giving expenses, and family members and friends contributed to Rhonda’s Fund, established at United Bank and Trust, Adrian, for the purpose of helping with financial assistance during her illness and for the benefit of her children. Rhonda is in the care of Purse Funeral Home in Adrian, with a memorial service planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Hillside United Methodist Church, 6100 Folks Road, Horton, Mich. Robert Malo Robert "Bob" Malo, age 86, an Eastpointe resident, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009, at William Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe. He retired from General Motors in 1978 where he worked as a lithographer. Bob enjoyed boating and loved his family. Violet C. Miller, age 96, of Albion, passed away Nov. 28, 2009 at Tendercare of Albion.  She was born Feb. 18, 1913, in Hillsdale County to Delbert and Chrissie (Perkins) Britton. She had worked in the Cambria area in 1968. When she moved to Albion, she worked as a laundress at Home Laundry. For 28 years Violet was married to Frank Parney who preceded her in death in 1960. In 1972, she married Robert “Bert” Miller who survives. She was a member of Leisure Hour Club in Albion. Violet enjoyed hunting, cooking and  baking, sewing and gardening. Survivors include: husband, Robert “Bert” Miller; daughter, Donelta Day and son, Junior and Martha Parney, all of Albion; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Parney; one brother, Ernest Britton; one half-brother, Garford Britton and half-sister, Audrey Seward. Funeral services are 11 a.m.Wednesday, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home,811 Finley Drive, Albion, with the Rev. Walter Hicks officiating. Interment will be at Cambria 1 Cemetery. Virginia was born April 24, 1950 in Jackson to Calvin and Elizabeth (VanDusen) Brown. She married Henry “Dale“ Covey on Aug. 19, 1978 in Coldwater. Mrs. Covey had worked at the former Carlisle and Theodore Bargeman Companies in Coldwater and also Tekonsha Towing. She enjoyed crocheting and camping but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Virginia was preceded in death by both her parents. She is survived by her husband Dale, her stepchildren Ronda (Carlos) Wallen, Lloyd Covey, James (Wanda) Covey, all of Coldwater, Douglas (Thoa) Covey of Calif., David Covey of Texas, Vickie (Ray) Conley of Belding, her brothers Donald Brown of Coldwater, Randy Brown of Burr Oak, sisters Ruth Diber of Athens, Penny (James) Waldron of Burr Oak, Johanna (Robert) Dickey of Osseo and many grand and great grandchildren. Walter M. McCain Walter M. McCain, 89, a longtime Mt. Clemens resident, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009. He was born on October 22, 1920 in Detroit. Mr. McCain proudly served on the USS Nautilus in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII. He worked as an Engineer at General Electric, was a member of the Mt. Clemens Kiwanis, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Moyer) of 64 years and close family friend, Diane Page. He was predeceased by parents, Phillip & Kathleen McCain.
