Barbara A. Swan, age 78, of Coldwater, formerly of Homer, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born Nov. 12, 1931 in Homer to Claude and Blanche (Geis) Nichols. Barbara married John W. Swan, Sr. on June 16, 1951. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2006. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Homer, living in the same house for 56 years. She moved to Coldwater in January 2009. Barbara was a member of St. Joe Baptist Church in Homer. She attended the Church of Holy Spirit in Coldwater after moving there. Barbara enjoyed flower gardening, bingo, collecting lapel pins, reading, crocheting, embroidering, cats and Tinkerbell collectables. She liked watching Shirley Temple movies and The Lawrence Welk Show. Her survivors include daughter Marsha (Lynn) Ash of Coldwater, sons Robert (Peggie) Swan of Homer, David (Bonnie) Swan of Tekonsha and Richard (Dawn) Swan of Jonesville, daughter-in-law Carlean Swan of Coldwater, 20 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bruce and Francis Nichols, sons John Jr. and Douglas Swan and great grandson Jeffery Miller. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, with Rev. Dave Nicholls officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the West Clarendon Cemetery. Connie S. (Hayes) Gilbert, 64, of  Middlebury, Ind. died Monday, March 29, 2010, at St. Joseph Medical Center Mishawaka, Ind. She was born Sept. 12, 1945, in Hillsdale County, to Curtis and Grace Eloise (Bennett) Hayes. She was a homemaker and worked for 12 years in area factories and retired from Earthway of Bristol in 2007. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and plants, watching hummingbirds and dancing. Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Willms of Montpelier, Ohio, Tammy (Tony) McClure of Adrian, Susan (Matt) Martin of Masaryktown, Fla., Connie (Michael) Piper of Middlebury; a son, Darwin “Sonny” Mocherman II of Middlebury; 10 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Marion) Sawdey of Hillsdale, Patricia Tibbs of Frontier; four brothers, Robert (Delores) Hayes of Quincy, Doyle (Susan) Hayes of Middlebury, Bruce (Margaret) Hayes of Frontier, Donnie (Sally) Hayes of VanWert, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill, Burel and Jim Hayes and a sister, Dixie Cook. Donald G. “Don” Morrow, of Coldwater, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 22, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Lawrence and Edith (Stevens) Morrow. He married Janet Foulk in 1978 and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Danny Foulk of Hillsdale; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Foulk, Halie Foulk, Allison Horn and Clair Bennett all of Hillsdale; two brothers, David (Jackie) Morrow and Richard Morrow both of Columbus, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister. Don retired from Metalloy in Hudson after over 20 years of service and then continued to work doing odd jobs in the area. He enjoyed life, bike riding, golf, fishing and his many friends. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Donald G. “Don” Morrow will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Edwin James Faust, 71, of Britton passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010, at his home. He was born on Nov. 22, 1938, in Britton, Mich., the son of Otto and Charlotte (Williams) Faust. On March 30, 1963, Ed married Gloria Hummel. She survives. Ed worked as a self-employed farmer and for Ford Motor Company in Saline, retiring in 1993. After retirement, Ed enjoyed spending time year-round at his cabin on Elbow Lake in Harrison, Mich. He loved to get together with friends and share coffee and conversation at the Blissfield Elevator as often as he could. Ed’s absolute favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He will be dearly missed. Surviving is his wife, Gloria Faust, of Britton; three daughters, Kristy Faust of Tecumseh, Cindy Faust of Britton and Sherry Faust of Britton; two brothers, Bob Faust of Colorado and Dick Faust of Clinton; two sisters, Norma Buggy of Milan, Mich., and Betty Carothers of Clinton; two grandchildren, Jessica Faust and Zachary Wimmer; and a great-grandson, Christian Arevalo-Faust. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael L. Faust and one grandson, Michael O. Faust. Funeral services for Ed will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palmyra with the the Rev. Gary Leking officiating. Burial will follow in Palmyra Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. Eleanor B. Zeller Eleanor B. Zeller, age 93, a resident of Clinton Township, died March 31, 2010. She was born April 9, 1916. Eleanor was a retired nurse who loved helping people. She enjoyed life to the fullest and knowing her was the greatest gift of all. She enjoyed activities with her church, gardening, baking and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Zeller is survived by her son, Karl A. (Loretta) Kasner; grandchildren, Dawn Kasner, her fiance Max Firman, Gregory Kasner, his companion Lisa Looney, Christina Melchror, Michael (Lori) Wawrzyniak, Scott (Lisa) Wawrzyniak; great-grandchildren, Emily Kasner, Kristina Firman, Ashley Firman, Elizabeth Firman, Zack Wawrzyniak, Lindsey and Ryan Wawrzyniak. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward F. Zeller. George E. Swalley, age 87, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Howe, Ind., a son to the late Phillip and Ada (Monroe) Swalley. On June 22, 1942, he married Stephanie M. Bizjak in Waukegan, Ill..    George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for two years.   He was a mechanic by trade and worked several years at G.L. Miller Dodge in Waukegan, Ill., Miller-Krueger Dodge in Libertyville, Ill., and Ammco Tool in Waukegan, Ill.  In 1972, he and his wife moved to Sturgis, where he was employed for Sutton Tool until his retirement. He had a gift to gab and he loved playing cribbage. Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn (Gary) Cookson of White Pigeon, and Jeannette (Troy) Haines of Beach Park, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Shirley Swalley of Zion, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Cary Cookson, Jason Cookson, Jami Haines, Bryan Haines, Tami Efsen, Jeff Swalley, Steve Swalley, Shanna Swalley, and Stacy Creamer; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Ellis of Beach Park, Ill.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to friends that thought so much of their father: Brian Sandell, Don Bertva, Dorothy Coats, Sally Stevens and Sharon Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Stephanie in June 2007; a son, James in February 2007; a brother; and four sisters. According to his wishes, there will be no visitation or services, as cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place at a later date. George W. Heeman, age 89, of Tecumseh passed away April 2, 2010, at Cambrian Assisted Living Home. George was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Britton, Mich., the son of George and Carrie Heeman. On June 22, 1940, he married Hilda Meyers. She survives.  Upon graduation from Britton High School he worked for Tecumseh Products, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed bowling and golfing in his spare time. George and Hilda retired to Florida in 1990, and resided there until 2008, returning to Tecumseh. George was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tecumseh.  Besides his wife Hilda, George is survived by a son, George (Geri) Heeman of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Brenda Starkweather; four sisters; and one brother. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Pastor Philip Krieger officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon, Tuesday. Geri (McCrae) Stephens passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2010 at the age of 74. She attended school in Quincy, then college at Cleary University in Ypsilanti. Geri married Steve Stephens in 1955. No services will be held. Parents, Arliegh and Ruth Persails, both proceeded her as well as her husband who also passed in January 2010. Also survived are 13 nephews and ten nieces. Geri and husband Steve traveled around the world most of their lives through Air Force military until retiring in California. Geri was a financial secretary for ATU 1612. Steve was self employed accountant. |

Harold G. Coffman, age 84, born in Branch County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2010.  A former resident of Sherwood and Howell, Harold was employed by Midwest Bridge and Haggerty Lumber for many years. Harold was a World War II Naval Aviation veteran.  He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lola, remaining children Mona Tase, Valeria Sturgill (J.D.), Candace Haskell (John), Glenn Coffman (Cheryl), Terrance Coffman and Theresa Filey (Bill), brothers Thomas Coffman (Valeta) and Donald E. Coffman and sister Helen L. Iris Diane Blanchard, 52, of Coldwater, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System. Iris was born Oct. 29, 1957 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Robert F. and Hilda E. (Jones) Fry. She married John A. Blanchard on Aug. 10, 1979 in New York. Iris worked in home healthcare for the State of Michigan for many years until ill health forced her to retire. She enjoyed watching game shows and old TV shows, she loved the outdoors and spending time at the park. Most of all, Iris enjoyed taking care of others and spending time with her family. Iris is survived by her husband John Blanchard of Coldwater, her sons John Blanchard, Jr. of Coldwater and Michael Blanchard of Kalamazoo, her daughter Jennifer Blanchard and fiance’ Ryan Johnson of Coldwater, brothers Ray (Tracy) Fry and David Fry, both of Coldwater, sisters Roberta (Tom) Santella of Detroit and Betty Jo (Peter) Keppler of Brooklyn, N.Y., step-father Juan Rentas of Detroit and many nieces and nephews. Jean H. Yunker, age 91, of Howe, Ind., passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange, Ind. He was born July 17, 1918, in Howe, a son of the late John and Mabel (Kelly) Yunker. Jean had been employed in banking for 50 years and retired as president and CEO of State Bank of Lima, then served seven years as chairman of their board. On Aug. 10, 1979,  he married Colleen Steele in Sturgis. In his early years, Jean was involved in Scouting, 4-H, Lions Club, and banking organizations.  He was a 50-year-plus member of the Masonic and American Legion in Howe and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. He enjoyed the outdoors, being in the field on the tractor, and fishing, especially at Hatchet Lake in Canada, where he went for many years. Surviving are his wife: Colleen; four children, Doug (Susanna) Yunker of Bellingham, Wash., Dr. Phillip H. (Dr. Grace) Yunker of Maysville, Ky., Jennie (Darrell) Yunker Bauer of Beaufort, S.C., and Sabra S. Yunker of Noblesville, Ind.; five grandchildren, Zachary A. Yunker of Boise, Idaho, Claire Yunker of Seattle, Jacob (Tosha) Yunker of Lexington, Ky., Gwen (Tony) Keilman of Maysville, Ky., and Gretchen (Matthew) Baldwin of Rock Hill, S.C.; three great-granddaughters, Ellen Grace Yunker, Peyton Grace Keilman and Sophie B. Baldwin; and a sister, Barbara (Donald) Crumm of Goodrich. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marjorie Bricker, E. Gwendolyn Emmert and Helen R. Jerry M. Conklin, age 82, of Colon, took his final bow after a courageous battle with cancer, and went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2010, while residing at his Colon home, with his family by his side.  Jerry was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Battle Creek, a son to the late Gaylord and Lois (Horton) Conklin.  Jerry’s early life was spent in Battle Creek, where he graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1945.  Following graduation, Jerry served in the U.S. Army with the Special Services Entertainment Division.  On June 24, 1951, he married Shirley A. Robertson in Battle Creek.  She preceded him in death on March 31, 1987.  While living in Battle Creek, Jerry worked as a milkman for Ashley Dairy.  In 1961, Jerry moved his family to Colon and began working at Abbott’s Magic Company.  Soon afterwards, he became a professional magician, and the ”family of magic” known as The Amazing Conklins traveled throughout the United States, Nova Scotia, New Foundland, Quebec and New Brunswick.  In the 1960s they performed at the Boy Scouts National Jamboree in Colorado Springs, Colo. They also performed on Chicago’s Bozo Circus Show and were also invited to perform on” The Ed Sullivan Show.” Jerry and Shirley also traveled together with the Hetzer Brothers Circus.  After Shirley’s passing in 1987, Jerry slowed down a little, but he said the show must go on, so he downsized his act and continued on with his love of magic and performed at school assemblies all across the United States.  For something a bit different, he traveled one summer with a fair circuit, announcing pig races, which he enjoyed, too. The Amazing Conklins performed at the Abbott’s Magic Get Together in Colon 12 times and in 1999 they received the Jack Gwynne Award for Excellence In Magic.  Jerry had a love of working and he never slowed down.  When he made the decision to stop traveling with his magic, he purchased two concession trailers and operated those at many events throughout the state of Michigan. Jerry was also employed as stage manager for the Sturges-Young Auditorium for 19 years and he was also the lighting/sound technician for the Abbott’s Magic Get Togethers.  His most recent employer was Colon Public Schools, where his title included lunch and playground supervisor and an aide on the bus for special needs children.  He liked to be involved in the many community events that took place in Colon, such as the annual Fourth of July and Halloween festivities.  Jerry was a member of the Colon New Life Assembly of God Church.   He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Conklin, of Colon; one son, Mike (Penny) Conklin of Constantine; four grandchildren, Shawnee (Tanya)  Big Mountain of West Richmond, Wash., Stacy (Mark) Kittle of Colon, Kylie (Adam) Bowen of Centreville and Christina Conklin of Constantine; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Jarney (Yvonne) Conklin of British Columbia, one sister, Gayla (Jim) Nelson of Battle Creek and several nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his longtime companion, Lady, his faithful Saint Bernard.  The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Schipper Funeral Home  in Colon.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Jerry M. Conklin will be at 11.m. Saturday at the New Life Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Daniel Prus officiating.  If desired, the family suggests memorials be given to the New Life Assembly of God Church in Colon or the American Cancer Society.      |

John A. Roose, 66, of LaGrange, Ind., died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange. John was a lifelong LaGrange County resident and a United States Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War.  He worked for 10 years at DeRand Kitchens in Sturgis, before he retired from Abbott Labs in Sturgis, after 21 years of service.  After his retirement, he worked at Eagleson Auto and Norris Truck, both in LaGrange.  He was a member of the LaGrange American Legion Post #215 for 40 years, a charter member of the LA Breakfast Club, attended the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange, and for many years was active with the LaGrange County Girls Softball League. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he always was full of laughter.  He loved old vehicles, especially Fords, and anything to do with speed. John was born on Feb. 28, 1944, in Goshen, Ind., to Carl A. and Mildred L. (Biller) Roose. They both preceded him in death.  On April 20, 1968, in Kendallville, Ind.,  he married Sandra A. “Sande” Billings; Mrs. Roose survives in LaGrange. Also surviving are a daughter; and son-in-law, Ginger and Major Clifton Trout of Fort Belvoir, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Amy Roose of Howe, Ind.; six grandchildren, Christian, Keirstin, and Kya Roose and Jackson, Carter, and Tyler Trout; and a brother and sister-in-law, David W. and Susan Roose of Rock Hill, S.C. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Kirsten Roose, on May 9, 1971. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Frurip-May Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Danielson officiating. John E. Owens, 94, of Reading, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 at Laurels of Coldwater. He was born May 20, 1915 in North Adams, MI to Percy and Julia (Barnhart) Owens.  John graduated from Reading High School in 1934 and was employed 43 years as the superintendent of buildings and grounds at the Reading Community Schools. A great community supporter and volunteer, John was active in the Reading Rotary Club for over 60 years, belonged to the Reading Fire Department over 40 years, and was a 68 year member of the Reading United Methodist Church. He was also an avid fan and supporter of Reading athletics and he loved spending time fishing and hunting. He is described by his family as “one great father who never spoke a cross word”. Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Northrup) Owens, whom he married March 28, 1935; three children, Jerry Owens of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; John (JoAnn) Owens of Reading, Joan Renner of Addison; one brother, Virgil (Ruth) Owens of Jonesville; three granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Lyle Owens. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Owens High School Auxiliary Gymnasium, with Pastor DeAnn Dobbs officiating. Keith Elliott Kline age 75 of Leonidas, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at his home. Keith was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Centreville, a son of the late Lee E. and Addie (Harrison) Kline. He had lived all of his life in the Leonidas area and had attended Colon Schools. He married Darlene R. Hicks and had three children. He later married Beverly McClish on July 25, 1977, in Mendon. Keith had worked 37 years for the St. Joseph County Road Commission, and had also farmed all his life. He enjoyed hunting, mushroom hunting, looking for arrowheads and going up north to the cabin. Mary A. Hiznay Mary A. Hiznay, age 85, a resident of Rochester Hills, died April 2, 2010, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital, Troy. She was born February 18, 1925, in Portage, Pa. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Utica. Mary is survived by her children, Barbara (Michael) Haglund, Mary Ann (Gregory) Olsen, Patricia (Scott) Corlew and Joanne Hiznay; seven grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; siblings, Steven (JoAnne) Sauger, Regis Sauger, Marvin (Leah) Sauger, Ronald (Joan) Sauger, Richard (Diane) Sauger, Lawrence (Michelle) Sauger and Martha Cummins. Miriam E. Hill, age 75, formerly of Adrian, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, in Jonesboro, Ark. Miriam was born Dec. 31, 1934, in Adrian, the daughter of Fay and Hazel (Culver) Hill. Miriam worked as a waitress at Schwartz Restaurant in Adrian and as a dispatcher for the Shortway Bus Line. She was a member of the Eagles’ Auxilliary. She was also a member of the First Christian Church. Miriam is survived by her son, Andrew (Marian) Hill of Jonesboro, Ark.; three grandchildren, Angela Ringman of Adrian, Nina (Kyle) England of Seattle, Wash., and Jason Seibert of Jonesboro, Ark.; sister, Barbara Joan Sund of Adrian; brother, Fred (Patricia) Hill of Hudson, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis E. Gagnon Phyllis E. Gagnon, age 89, passed away on Good Friday, April 2, 2010, surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her sister, Mary Frances Deichelbor; and her grand-niece, Jennifer Lynn Deichelbor. Survived by her four nieces, Mary Rose Harris, Joette (Bobby) Pearson, Laura Lee Deichelbor, and Janet (Joseph) Nahas; and two nephews, Richard (Frederika) Deichelbor and Robert (Sandy) Deichelbor. Phyllis was a retired Certified Nurse Anesthetist with Wm. Beaumont Hospital (Royal Oak). She was our angel and we will miss her greatly. Robert C. McClure, age 77, of Tecumseh died March 31, 2010. He was born July 24, 1932, in Mt. Morris, Pa., the son of Raymond Clifford and Clara Marie (Ritter) McClure. On April 4, 1953, he married Mary L. Rose in Adrian, Mich. She preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2008. Robert worked for Gentner Trucking and was a 30-year volunteer member of the Irish Hills Fire Department. Robert is survived by four sons, Ronald, Donald (Phyllis), Ray (Renee) and Brian (Kathleen); 10 grandchildren, Rhonda, Ronald Jr., Justin, Steven, Timothy, Rachel, Maria, Joseph, Daniel and Meg; three great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Underwood; and his best buddy, “Bouncer.” In addition to his wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, John Marshall; a daughter, Lynette; son, Arnold; and a brother, John William Marshall.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian. Robert J. Knapp, 63, of Wellington, Colo., died March 21, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Knapp was born June 16, 1946 in Wyandotte, Mich., to Andrew Knapp and Rose Kreitzer Knapp.  Mr. Knapp lived the past 15 years in Wellington.  He move in 1986 to Ft. Collins from Ohio. Robert retired from Anheuser Busch eight years ago as a maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his former wife, Jerri Knapp of Ft. Collins; a son, Kevin Knapp of Lakewood, Colo.; one daughter, Ann Dee Hagans and her husband Tim, of Wellington; three brothers, Allen Knapp of Moab, Utah, Mark Knapp of Warren, Mich., and Andy Knapp of Hillsdale; a sister, Barb Morgan of Osseo, and two grandchildren, Bo-Daniel and Taylor Hagans of Wellington. Preceding Robert in death are his parents, and a sister, Kathy. A memorial service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, at 11 a.m. Monday. Robert Lee Hochstetler, age 69, of Constantine, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born Oct. 15, 1940, in Ligonier, Ind., a son of  Earl “Abe” and Irene (Dunafin) Hochstetler. Bob graduated from Ligonier High School in 1958.  On June 9, 1962, he married J. Darlene Rohrer in Goshen, Ind. Bob worked as assistant superintendent at the wastewater treatment plant in Three Rivers for 28 years, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed woodworking and remodeling his house. Surviving are his mother, Irene Sprunger of Constantine; his wife, Darlene Hochstetler, of Constantine; daughters LeAnne (Wayne) Yoder of Howe, Ind., Lisa (Ron) Yoder  of Middlebury, Ind., and Lori Stephens of LaGrange, Ind.; brothers Raymond Hochstetler of Elkhart, Ind., and Jerry Hochstetler of Ligonier;  grandchildren Jolene, Rosena, Justin, Rachel, Jason, Rebecca, Jamie, Jenny, Derek and Audrey; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; and a granddaughter, Kelly Stephens. In celebration of Bob’s life, relatives and friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 pm  Thursday at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine.  Services will be private at the convenience of family. Interment will be in the Constantine Cemetery. Russell C. Miller, age 85, of Tecumseh died in Ann Arbor on Thursday, April 1, 2010, with his loving family at his bedside. He was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Tecumseh, the son of Vernon and Laura (Steele) Miller. He was married to Theresa Solarski and she survives. Russell retired from Tecumseh Products after 43 years of employment. After retirement, he worked for Burns Security in Ann Arbor for several years. He was a former member of the Tecumseh American Legion. Russell enjoyed working on engines in his spare time and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Theresa, Russell is survived by three sons, Gregory Miller and Vincent (Penny) Miller of Tecumseh, and Dennis (Julie) Miller of Sand Creek; one daughter, Elizabeth (Rick) Steele of League City, Texas; one brother, Robert Miller of Tecumseh; one sister, Betty (Sy) Dillon of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, David, Carrie, Daniel, Noah, and Benjamin Miller and Corey and Cally Steele; and one great-grandson, Bradley Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Stanley Miller; and two sisters, Lila Eddinger and Joyce Russell. Russell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Sarah Kimberly Edwards, born Sept. 28, 2009, fell asleep in death at the age of six months on March 30, 2010. She is survived by her parents, John and Jillian (Howard) Edwards of Adrian. Also surviving are her maternal grandparents, Robert and Rebecca Howard, along with her maternal great-grandmother, Nell Howard, all of Lenawee County. She is also survived by three half-sisters, Stephanie, Pauline and Sasha; a half-brother, Christian; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Abraham and Inez Edwards. Sarah was born with a condition called Trisomy 18, or Edwards Syndrome, which is 99 percent fatal. Sarah fought hard to stay alive for 183 days. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Hospice of Lenawee is to be commended for their dedication, care and loving support during Sarah’s time at home. Also appreciated are the members of the Tiny Purpose Support Group, not to mention the Toledo Hospital NICU and PICU, as well as the Ronald McDonald House. Scott W. Shultz, age 49, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, March 29, 2010, at his home. He was born July 24, 1960, in Sturgis, a son of Cleon and Janet (Holtz) Shultz. He was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1979. He was a dedicated and loyal employee of Lakeland Paper Company in Sturgis for nearly 30 years. Scott enjoyed mushroom hunting, cooking and watching movies. Scott truly loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Stacy Bontrager of Sturgis and Jennifer (Craig) Shoup of Galesburg; a brother-in-law, Alvin Bontrager of Sturgis; two nieces, Courtney (Kent) Schmucker and Alecia (Adam) Pieronski, both of Sturgis; three nephews, Adam Bontrager of Sturgis, and Jacob Shoup and Evan Shoup, both of Galesburg; three great-nieces, Cleoy Schmucker, Kryssalyn Schmucker and McKenzie Pieronski; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy Holtz, and Albert and Letha Shultz. The family will receive friends from 5-6:45 p.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where a memorial service celebrating the life of Scott W. Shultz will begin at 7 p.m. The Rev. Deb Johnson of the First United Methodist Church of Sturgis will officiate. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the service. Sharon Kay Stetten, age 71, of Adrian Township, formerly of Manitou Beach, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at her home. She was born on Feb. 27, 1939, in Addison to Kenneth F. and Nora R. Campbell (Ebbert) Campbell. She married Gary L. Stetten on June 27, 2008, in Adrian and he survives. Sharon lived in the Addison, Brooklyn and Manitou Beach areas all her life and the past two years in Adrian Township. She graduated from Addison High School in 1957. She was employed at Roto Plastics in Adrian. Sharon loved RVing, mushroom hunting and babysitting her great-grandchildren.  Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Deanna (Bill) Barker of Culleoka, Tenn., and Melody (Mark) Reilly of Manitou Beach; four sons, Byron (Brenda) Youtsey of Manitou Beach, Patrick Youtsey of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Gregory Stetten of Hillsdale and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Stetten of Lansing; two stepdaughters, Deena (John) Schultz of Hillsdale and Lisa (Kenneth) Toman of Onsted; one step-son, Henry (Deb) McNett of Kentucky; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Michael Campbell of Holland; one sister-in-law, Ellen Campbell of Ypsilanti; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Stephen O. “Steve” Musser, 59, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, Ind. He was born Aug. 10, 1950, in Goshen, a son to the late Oliver G. and Norma G. (Hostetler) Musser. Steve had been a resident of Sturgis most of his life except for 10 years, he lived in Crystal River, Fla. He graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1968. Steve had been a bartender all of his life and was employed by the Sturgis Bowl for 15 to 20 years, B&W Tavern for eight to 10 years, and since 1988 at the Sturgis Eagles. He has always been very active at his employers, helping to organize bowling tournaments, golf outings and most recently at the Eagles with their Helping Hands program. Steve was a fan of NASCAR, an avid bowler, and enjoyed visiting Las Vegas. Surviving are a sister, Barbara (David) DeLisle of Bronson; two brothers, Rick Musser of Sturgis and Dennis (Cathy) Musser of Punta Gorda, Fla.; several nieces; three great-nephews; and an aunt, Evelyn Yoder of Bradenton, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John Musser. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5-8 p.m. today and noon-3 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Home Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Stephen O. Musser will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Philip Wyns of Christian Fellowship Center officiating. Thomas Dewayne Goff, 31, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1978, in Fort Polk, La. to Arnold L. and Laurie (Powers) Goff and they survive. Thomas was employed at Tenneco in Litchfield. He enjoyed bowling and golf, and was an avid University of Michigan sports fan. Besides his father, Arnold L. Goff and his mother, Laurie (Randy Wilson) Meade of Litchfield, he is survived by two sons, Pacey Goff of Hillsdale and Landon Goff of Coldwater; a brother, Kevin (Sunda) Goff of Litchfield; an uncle, Kevin Powers of Waldron; a niece, Chloe, and two nephews, Ethan and Logan. Funeral services for Thomas D. Goff will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. HONOR — William Paul Wittkowsky, age 88, died at his home in Honor on March 30, 2010. He was born in Grand Rapids on Jan. 11, 1922. A graduate of Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids, Willie served our country with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Vianna Rickard, age 97, of Ann Arbor passed away April 1, 2010, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Mich.  She was born on Aug. 23, 1912, in Marquette, Mich., the daughter of Oscar and Anna Riihimaki Storstrang. She married William Garnet Rickard on Nov. 29, 1934, in Big Rapids, Mich. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1978.  Vianna was educated at John D. Pierce High School in Marquette, Mich., and attended Ferris Institute for one year for secretarial studies. When Vianna was a young adult, she worked in the Marquette County Treasurers Office. She later worked as a secretary in Big Rapids, Mich. The family moved to the Ann Arbor area in 1942, where the family was raised. She later worked at Buhr Machine Tool Co. She then went to work at the U of M at the Kresge Foundation, where she remained until retirement in 1976.  Vianna was an active member of West Side United Methodist Church and the Dorcas Circle, Arbor Anns, Order of the Eastern Star, and The Kings Daughters. She was fortunate to have traveled to many countries of the world.  Vianna is survived by a son, Wayne Ronald Rickard (Kathryn), and a daughter, Nancy Carole Keller; six grandchildren, Wayne, Scott, Anne, Jeffrey, Brian, and Corey; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her sister Elsie Lauri and son-in-law John Keller.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. Fourth Ave., Ann Arbor, Mich. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Memorial donations in Vianna’s name may be made to West Side United Methodist Church, Ann Arbor, Mich., or Lenawee Medical Care Facility (Canterbury Activity Fund), Adrian, Mich.   |

Walter D. Brooks Walter D. Brooks, age 85, of Roseville, died April 2, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Doris for 66 years. He was the proud father of five children, Rick (Vi) Brooks, Steven (Judy) Brooks, Bobbie (Lynn) Jones, Jody Brooks, Dan (Amy) Brooks. He was survived by 15 wonderful grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren; two brothers; and three sisters. Walter worked in electro chemical plating most of his life. He started out in Michigan Hard Chrome plating gun parts used in World War II. He and partners ran a plating shop of their own for 12 years. Next, he went to work for GM Tech Center in Warren in the Electro Chemical Plating for 27 years and made lots of friends. His hobby was working. He loved working on cars, built two houses, two garages, and a family room. When he had time, he loved to snowmobile. Walter faithfully attended Calvary Baptist Church of Roseville and Macomb Baptist Church for the past 45 years. Visitation at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville, Tuesday, April 6, from 2-9 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 10 a.m. at Macomb Baptist Church, 23970 Hall Road, Clinton Township. William J. Fougerousse, 93, of Reading, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility.  He was born in Sullivan, Ind. on April 15, 1916.  He was married Oct. 9, 1940, to Anna Thier and she preceded him in death Dec. 4, 2008. Bill retired from the Dearborn Fire Department in 1963 and moved to the Hillsdale area to be a farmer. He was a member and eucharistic minister at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II. Surviving are four children, Donna (Guy) Hinman of Angola Ind., Dianne (Paul) Sonnenberg of Austin, Texas, David (Sharon) Fougerousse of Galien, Mich. and Jack Fougerousse of Taylor, Mich.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers. A Mass of Christian burial for William Fougerousse will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow at King Lake Cemetery in Hillsdale. There will be a prayer vigil service at 6 p.m. with visitation to follow at 8 p.m. Thursday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home.
