Allen M. Schlagheck, age 84, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital. He was born July 8, 1925, in St. Cloud, Minn., a son to the late Albert and Mary (Meyer) Schlagheck. Allen has been a resident of Sturgis for the past 24 years and had previously resided in Niles for 35 plus years.   On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Genevieve Berscheit.  She preceded him in death March 17, 1973.  On July 19, 1974 he married Bernadine Maynard.  She preceded him in death July 10, 1984.   On November 7, 1987 in Sturgis, he married Betty Quirin Finnerman. Allen retired from Bendix Corporation in South Bend, Ind., after 35 years of employment. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. Allen was a member of the Sturgis Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, and American Legion.  He was an avid baseball fan and was a die hard Chicago Cubs Fan.  He enjoyed playing cards (Euchre), bird watching, and spending time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was an easy going, good natured, kind gentleman who never had a bad word to say and if you asked how he was, he would always reply “I’m Good!” Surviving are his wife, Betty; children, Nancy (Arthur) Fairclough of Pennsylvania, Carol Knight of Michigan, Donna (John) Vesey of Michigan, Jane (Tom) Lorenz of Arizona, John Schlagheck of California, Steven (Darby) Schlagheck of Michigan, Todd and Diana Maynard, Phillip (Tammy) Finnerman, and Ann Benjamin, all of Sturgis, and Barbara (Don) Foster of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; four brothers, and two granddaughters. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at the Hackman Family Funeral Home - Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Allen Schlagheck will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with The Rev. James Bender, First Baptist Church of Sturgis, officiating. Private interment will take place at a later time. The family suggest memorial donations be directed to the Sturgis Kiwanis Club, the American Diabetes Association, or the First Baptist Church of Sturgis, envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arthur W. Midgley Lansing Mr. Midgley age 93, passed away April 7. 2010 at his home. He was born August 8, 1916 at Vandercook Lake, MI, the son of John and Amelia (Weisman) Midgley. He was a general foreman for General Motors, retiring after 41 years of service. Arthur was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the Horton Masonic Lodge #292 and was a dual member of the Wacousta Masonic Lodge #359 F. & A.M. He was a 32 degree Mason; Deputy District Instructor for the Grand Lodge of Michigan and he became a life member of the Scottish Rite Shriners in 1986. Survivors include, brother John (Bud), wife (Beverly) Midgley of Sevierville, Tenn.; sister, Mildred Fowler of Jonesville, Mich.; brother-in-law and wife Robert (Marie) Crosswaite of Morrice, Mich and several nieces and nephews. Inurnment with military and masonic memorial services will take place at the Horton Cemetery, Hanover Twp., at a later date. For those desiring contributions to the Masonic Home Endowment Fund, Alma, MI would be greatly appreciated. Dr. Bobbi J. Ramp M.D. Passed away on April 5, 2010, age 49. Dr. Ramp received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine where she also completed her residency. She was an instructor in surgery and assistant clinical professor at Michigan State. She was a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. An expert gardner, Dr. Ramp received her Master Gardener's Degree. She was an avid U of M football fan as well as a Detroit Pistons fan. She also loved spending time on her wave runner and fishing boat. Beloved daughter of Robert D. and Joanne C. Ramp. Preceded in death by her mother Barbara L. Ramp. Dear sister of Brad (Gina) Ramp. Dan Bassar Lansing Dan Bassar, 63, died at his home on Monday, April 5, 2010 after a short battle with lung cancer. Dan was born December 30, 1946 in Jackson, Michigan. He was employed by AT&T of Santa Cruz, California for 28 years. He had recently retired to his home state of Michigan prior to his death. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Doris, his father, John, and a brother, Keith (Joanne) all of Lansing, as well as his brother, John (Elizabeth) of Lakewood, California, and his brother, Philip (Mary) of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by three nephews, Andrew, Michael and Mathew, all of Grand Ledge, Michigan and one niece Annemarie Hodges of East Lansing Dan has donated his body to Michigan State University. Daniel Robert Jones Lansing Born August 2, 1962 in Lansing, MI, went to be with his Lord and Savior April 3, 2010 at his home after a 2 year battle with lung cancer. Dan was a service tech for Denny's Auto Diagnosis for 28 years. He graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1980. Dan loved to golf, Spartan sports, western movies and just being in the great outdoors especially in the summertime. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Herbruck) Jones; parents, Robert and Mary Jones; sisters, Robin (David) Ramberg, Maria (Terry) O'Sullivan; daughters, Angela (David) Gibson, and Amy (Tom) Cosper; nephews, Paul, Ian, Dennis, and Robert; niece, Allison; grandsons, David, and Evan; aunts, Norman Hill, and Ruth Jones; numerous cousins and many loving friends. David Richard Kiter Laingsburg Born October 31, 1953, in Lansing; after a long battle with Leukemia, David passed away on April 6, 2010. Gilbert R. Slusher, 70, of Mottville Township, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Mesopotomia, Ohio, a son of Frank and Gladys (Ruswinkle) Slusher. He had lived in the Mottville area since 1966, coming from White Pigeon. His early life was spent in Ohio. On March 1, 1968, he married Dorothy E. Winkleman in Sturgis. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 2009. He had been employed on a dairy farm, a sawmill, CMI Foundry, Sturgis Foundry and Pioneer Seed Company in Constantine. He was a member of Mottville Community Church in Mottville. He enjoyed yard work and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Lisa K. Slusher of Mottville; a son, Russell D. Slusher of Mottville; his mother, Gladys Slusher of Ohio; two sisters, Ethel (Don) Lethers of Warren, Ohio, and Mary (Richard) Everson of Bristolville, Ohio; two brothers, Lewis (Vicki) Slusher of White Pigeon, Lee (Heirietta) Slusher of Middlefield, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Heather Marie Downey Heather Marie Downey, died April 6, 2010. She was born November 19, 1977. She is survived by her father and stepmother, Mark and Jean Downey. Heather was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Anne Downey. Jake was employed as a projectionist at IMAX Theater Indiana State Museum, and also Best Rentals of Indianapolis. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Jake loved the outdoors and loved to fish. Jake’s huge heart and his sweet smile will be greatly missed. Jake will be lovingly remembered by his mother and father, Stephen and Laura Currier; siblings, Gabriel (Angela) Currier, Rachel (Scott) Kear and Caleb Currier; niece and nephew, Madeline and Isaac Currier; grandparents, John and Edna Currier of Sturgis, and Richard and Nancy Wegner of Sturgis; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. John C. Kuechenmeister John Carl Kuechenmeister, age 92, a lifelong resident of Mount Clemens passed away on April, 7, 2010, at home. He was born on November 8, 1917, the only child of John F. and Dorothy (Eschenburg) Kuechenmeister. He served as a U.S. Navy electrician in the South Pacific on the USS Biloxi during World War II and on June 1, 1946, married Delores Jean Nicholson. John retired in January, 1982 after 44 years with the Detroit Edison Company. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, serving for many years on the church council, as President of that council, and was active in Brotherhood and Merry Mates. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delores; three daughters, Kristine (Robert) Carpenter of Dallas, Texas, Ann Marie Kuechenmeister and Jane (Rodney) Gravel both of Mount Clemens; three grandsons, Andrew, John and Paul; and three great-grandchildren, Tristan, Kai, and Finley. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 11 a.m. (visitation starting at 10 a.m.) at Zion United Church of Christ, 68 New Street, Mount Clemens. Followed by entombment with military honors at Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Township. Memorial donations may be sent to Zion United Church. June Ladd, age 85, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Adrian, died Monday, April 5, 2010. She was born June 25, 1924, in Seneca, Mich., to Otto and Alice (Dippery) Metcalf. On Oct. 22, 1949, in Seward, Ohio, she married Idean William Ladd and he preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 2005. June is survived by her two daughters, Amy (Gilbert) Minkel of Clearwater, Fla., and Lori Bailey of Youngstown, Ohio; four grandchildren, Anthony D. Swyers, William D. Lakisha worked at Deb’s Beauty Supply as an assistant manager and later with AT&T as a Customer Care Representative. She was a member of the Potters House Ministry in Dallas, Texas, and later became a member of Greater St. Stephen First Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, where she served as an Usher. Louis Frederick ‘Todd’ Everett, 88, of Constantine, went to be with his maker Friday, April 2, 2010, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Centreville, following a short illness. Louis was born March 9, 1922, in Florence Township, a son of Michael T. and Jennie (Weaver) Everett. He farmed in his youth and worked construction most of his adult life. Louis served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. On Nov. 22, 1947, he married Patricia Dimmick in Three Rivers. Louis and his wife enjoyed camping and traveled all around Michigan. He also enjoyed his ponies and antique tractor shows. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Pat Everett of Constantine; a daughter, Lynn (Gordon) Clevenger  of Centreville; two sons, James (Gayle) Everett of Three Rivers and Richard Everett of Constantine; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six step-great- grandchildren; a sister, Leona Glase of Elkhart, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Everett of Lawton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lyle Thompson; three brothers; and four sisters. Per his request, cremation has taken place. There will be no public service. Marian Louise Sattler, 83, of Blissfield passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010, at her home. She was born on May 18, 1926, in Tecumseh, Mich., the daughter of Royal and Clemantine (McCallister) Haas. On Feb. 13, 1947, Marian was united in marriage to Donald Sattler. He survives. Marian devoted her life to her home and family. She was a member of the United Brethren Church in Blissfield and was a proud sponsor of the Lakota Indian children from St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D. In her spare time, Marian enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin in Harrison, Mich., where she actively fished and hunted. Marian was a collector of various stones and loved to  sit and watch the birds  whenever she could. Surviving is her husband, Donald Sattler of Blissfield; three children, Greg (Tanna) Sattler of Tecumseh, Laura (Dan) Sauter of Palmyra and Lezlie Whiteford of Blissfield; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dean Haas; sisters, Alta Mae Crist and Helen Bangeter; her daughter, Brenda DeLisle; and her son, Bradley Sattler. Following Marian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marian will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. Burial of her ashes will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery in Blissfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider making contributions to the Hospice of Lenawee. Marian Rose Hostetler, 82, of White Pigeon, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, after an extended illness. She was born July 6, 1927, in Elkhart, Ind., a daughter of Grover and Francis (Warble) Fleck. On Jan. 24, 1946, she married Ora Hostetler in Constantine. She was a lifelong homemaker, a school bus driver, worked in mail route delivery and was a Girl Scouts leader and den mother. She enjoyed her family, sewing, cooking, baking, flea markets and antiquing with her husband. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Gloria (Larry) Waltke of White Pigeon; a son, Melvin (Dorothy) Hostetler of White Pigeon; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Rovner of Skokie, Ill., and Elma Sellers of Sturgis; three brothers, Floyd Summey of White Pigeon, George Summey of Centreville and Jim Summey of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn J. Kyser Aug. 23, 1942 — April 2, 2010 Marilyn Jean Kyser, 67, of Somerset Township, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at her home. She was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Hillsdale, to Hugh and Margaret (Harbaugh) Hamblen. Marilyn graduated from Reading High School in 1961. She belonged to the Vandercook Lake Free Methodist Church and was active in their Ladies Bible Study. She was a former member of the Hidden Lake Gardens Club in Tipton, Mich. Marilyn’s hobbies included music, especially playing the piano, as well as traveling and appreciation for nature. Her greatest passion was their homestead farm. Survivors include her husband, Mike Kyser, whom she married Aug. 3, 1963; one daughter, Kelli (Jared) Seager, Reading; one son, Kevin (Jody) Kyser, Spring Lake; eight grandchildren, Kaci, Jarett, Kaitlin, and Kirstin Seager and Courtney, Cameron, Collin and Caden Kyser. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Chloe Kyser. Maudlene Wilson Maudlene "Cookie" Wilson, age 83, of Ray Township and formerly of Harrison Township, died April 7, 2010, at Meadow Ridge in Armada. Maudlene was born in Ripley, Ala. to Franklin Rubin and Mary Sue (nee McGough) Morgan. Maudlene retired in 1992 from L'Anse Creuse Public Schools where she loved being a bus driver for 29 years and was affectionately known as "Cookie." Maybelle E. Paul, born to J. Leslie and Inice M. (Ping) Taylor in Blackwell, Okla. on April 29, 1910 passed away peacefully March 23, 2010 in Tucson, Ariz.  At a very early age, her parents relocated to Branch County, where she graduated from Quincy High School in 1928. In 1928, she married Leo Paul, who preceded her in death in 1982. In 1972, after 22 years of employment with the Coldwater Regional Center, she retired and was a member of SERA. She continued living at the farm where she lived for 50 plus years, working with her husband in their slaughter house business. She was an early member of the Branch County Extension Ladies, a 4-H leader for 20 years and taught many the joys of working with ceramics. Other organizations she enjoyed through her life were Friends of the Library and Farm Bureau and the Branch County 4-H Fair for more than 50 years. During retirement, she raised peacocks and flowers and truly enjoyed her family.  Traveling became a passion for her and she visited every state in the union, plus Mexico, Canada, Panama and the Caribbean. As busy as she kept, she stayed close to God and prided herself in reading the entire Bible each year.  She is survived by her children Jane Ann (Norman Dean) Brown of Bronson, Dennis (Betty) Paul of Tucson, Ariz., Nancy Armstrong of Tucson, Ariz. and Mitchel (Patricia) Paul of Kalamazoo, along with nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great  great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Taylor and Leslie Taylor, sister Vyrna Cox and two grandchildren. Memorials in her memory may be directed to the Branch County 4-H Fair. Patricia Ann Troub Lansing Born Oct. 3, 1929 in Lansing the daughter of Phil and Margaret (Schutz) Wenzlick, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in Lansing at age 80. Growing up in the Wenzlick family, Pat was taught at an early age, the importance of her family. She devoted her life to family and friends. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church for 50 years. She retired from the Lansing School District. Pat is survived by her 7 children: Jeffrey, Robert, Dick, Sue Muzillo, John (Kelsie), Jerry (Lisa) and Laurie Troub, her sister Mary Ellen Garvey, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, in-laws: Ray Doyle, Mary and Russ Owen, Marge and Norm Belen, Barb Wenzlick, Joan Wenzlick and many loving nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams as celebrant. Robert M. Von Itter Robert Michael Von Itter, age 56, a longtime resident of Warren, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at his home. Robert was born January 9, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Raymond J. Von Itter and Janice (nee Rue) Von Itter. He was raised in East Detroit and Warren and graduated from Warren Woods High School class of 1972. Robert later served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Von Itter worked for many years at AWT in Roseville in their shipping and receiving department, recently Robert was working as a security officer in Detroit. When Robert was not working he had a passion for riding his bicycle. Robert is survived by his parents. He is the dear brother of Raymond Von Itter, Cheryl (Doug) Ford, Maureen (Bruce) Smith, Dennis (Becky) Von Itter, Dale Von Itter. Robert is also survived by many nieces, and nephews. Ruth Lucile Barnett, age 93, of Tecumseh, formerly of Adrian, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Lynwood Manor. She was born May 30, 1916, in Athens, Ohio, to John and Mary Gertrude (May) Potts. On May 27, 1934, she married Woodard Barnett. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1972. Ruth was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Adrian. She had been employed by Bixby Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1983. Ruth is survived by two sons, Lewis Barnett of Tempe, Ariz., and James (Ella) Barnett of Tecumseh; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Woodard, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Carl and Lewis; two sisters, Carrie and Naomi; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Barnett. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Pastor Mike Dunson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. He worked for 30 years as a technical representative for several copier companies. He was very knowledgeable about computers and was always willing to help others with computer problems. He was an all around helper to his neighbors and friends. His favorite sport was bowling, with two 300 games to his credit. He also enjoyed watching golf, football and sports car racing. Scott also enjoyed cooking and being with his family. He was cherished by many friends. His wish was to be cremated. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 17 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30003 Ryan Road, Warren. Walter “Pete” Glenn, age 81, of Tecumseh passed away April 6, 2010. Mr. Glenn was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Raisin Township, Mich., the son of Charles and Eleanor (Bielatowicz) Glenn. On June 12, 1954, he married Sally Bale in Tipton, Mich. She survives. Pete served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retiree of the Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant. Pete was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh. Besides his wife, Sally, Pete is survived by three children, June (Jeffrey) Elwell of Onsted, Jane (Jeffrey) Shirk of Dansville, Mich., and Michael (Kelli) Glenn of Ypsilanti; sisters, Sophie Bailey of Tecumseh and Frances Holmes of Adrian; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Frank, Joseph, Verna, and two in infancy. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at the J.
