ARTHUR EUGENE GARLICK MARLETTE Arthur Eugene Garlick, age 74, of Marlette, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. He was born June 15, 1934 in Ann Arbor, Michigan the son of the late Arthur and Phyllis (Jackson) Garlick. He moved to this area in 1951 from Pontiac and was a 1952 graduate of Marlette High School and served in the U.S. Army. Arthur married Marilyn Innes on November 2, 1957 at the Marlette First Presbyterian Church. He worked for 31 years at Pontiac Motors retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Thumb Steelheaders Association and served on the board of Sanilac Re-cycling Center. Arthur (Gene) enjoyed fishing, furniture refinishing and spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, one son; Jeffrey (Shelley) Garlick of New York, one daughter; Julie (Bill) Ross of Goodrich, one sister; Mary (Ken) Wahl of Tennessee, two granddaughters; Heather Jo & Stefanie, one step grandson; Bob Mowry and one step granddaughter; Richelle Mowry. Funeral services were held at Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Pastor Chris Wolfe officiating. Cremation followed services at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Ann Seliga, 93, of Souderton, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, in the skilled nursing unit of Genesis Healthcare Quakertown Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. “Dugan” Seliga. Born in Hazleton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Ella (Evanko) Andrasi.    Mrs. Seliga was a homemaker, but also worked part-time for various textile factories in the Hazleton area for more than 40 years. She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Hatfield, Pa., and in her free time she enjoyed puzzles, baseball and college basketball. She is survived by a son, Joseph R. Seliga of Mercerville, N.J.; three daughters, Mary Lou Snover and her husband, John, of Sellersville, Pa., Carol S. Weaver and her husband, Robert, of Souderton, Pa., and Gloria A. Bortnichak and her husband, Peter, of Onsted, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Albert Andrasi and his wife, Evelyn, of Hazleton, Pa. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, George, Michael, Joe, Paul, Andrew and Nick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, Pa. Entombment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Drums, Pa. Family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service. Annie Kiers, age 87 years, of Onsted passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Tendercare in Adrian. Annie was born on Sept. 1, 1921, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the daughter of Dirk and Antje (Audo) Bronsdijk. Annie married Wolter Kiers on July 7, 1945, in Amsterdam. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1987. Annie was an accomplished gymnast who qualified for the Olympic Games but was unable to compete because of World War II. Her family moved to the United States on July 27, 1957, with a sponsorship from the First Baptist Church of Adrian. She was an avid baseball fan of the Detroit Tigers. She worked as a bartender and she was one of the founding members of the Irish Hills Eagles Aeire Lodge #3689 of Brooklyn in 1980. Annie is survived by two children, Anne M. Bartlett of Onsted and Jon D. Kiers of Battle Creek; two grandsons, Jamison Bartlett of Onsted and Travis Kiers of San Antonio, Texas; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Henny Bronsdijk. Cremation has taken place. A Lodge of Sorrow Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted followed by a Celebration of Life Service with Pastor Tom McMichael officiating. She married John Becklar on January 22, 1954 in Allen Park, MI, he preceded her in death July 5, 2007. Dona enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and her dog, Max. Betty was born March 27, 1931 in Sturgis to Leo and Minnie (Eddinger) Fillmore. She spent most of her life in the Coldwater area and together with her husband, owned and operated the former Abbott’s Antiques in Coldwater. Betty had also worked at Shaw Shoe Factory, Quality Springs and LA Darling. She was a member of the Settlement Lutheran Church in Gowen and had lived at Halcyon Point in Coldwater, where she enjoyed socializing with her many friends and neighbors. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. Ms. Abbott was preceded in death by her parents, her former husbands Ralph K. Worst and G.B. “Bud” Abbott, one brother and one sister. He was born March 13, 1925, in Flint, to Clarence and Ethel (Gath) Skellenger. He married Gurneth Townsend on June 28, 1945 in Washington, D.C. Mr. Skellenger proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1980 from GM Truck & Coach as a machine repairman. Bill was a member of the Metamora Lions Club and Metamora Fire Department. He loved his garden, hunting, fishing and, in more recent years, bowling. It was a joy for Bill to have his grandchildren around. DALE BISSETT BROWN CITY Dale Bissett, age 77, of Brown City, passed away February 15, 2009 at his home in his own bed. He was born January 25, 1932 near Bad Axe to Albert and Ella (Maud) Bissett. Dale was a decorated veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years. During his retirement he enjoyed spending winters in Florida and spending time with his whole family. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Phyllis, five children; Christine Gilkerson of Sandusky, Joe and Cec Bissett of Brown City, Sally and Kerry Jacobs of North Branch, Greg Bissett of Brown City, Tim and Cheri Bissett of Brown City. He is also survived by six step-children; Karen McNary and Tom Germayne of Brown City, Ron McNary of Brown City, Don and Kathy McNary of Brown City, Bob and Marianne McNary of Imlay City, Vicki and Alan Burgess of Brown City, Tammy and Jim Siegler of Brown City, 27 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, three brothers; Virden Bissett, Clee (Bonnie) Bissett, Bob (Irene) Bissett, one sister-in-law; Marylou Bissett along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (DeFelice) Bissett of 31 years, his parents; Albert and Ella Bissett and three brothers; Edwin, J.D. and Leeland, five sisters; Lula Nichols, Pearl Krivoshein, Valdora Tabor, Lenora Gilstorff and Eveline Clarkson. Also preceding him was a step-son, Bruce Bissett and a great granddaughter, Addison Weatherford. Funeral services were held at the Carman Funeral Home with Rev. Maureen Baker officiating. She was born June 16, 1982, in Hillsdale, the daughter of Gary and Theresa (Ruede) Truitt. She is survived by her parents, Gary and Theresa Truitt of Moscow; one sister, April Truitt of Moscow; three sons, Austin Michael Curtis, Damian Scott Curtis and Ayden Raymond Woodruff; her fiancé, Andrew Woodruff of Moscow, whom she planned to marry on June 5, 2010; grandmother, Evelyn Truitt of Moscow; godfather, Duncan Howard of Jackson and many aunts, uncles, close cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Verl Truitt and her grandfather and grandmother, William and Margaret Ruede. Diana graduated from North Adams-Jerome High School in North Adams in 2000 and she was attending Baker College in Jackson where she was studying to be a Registered Nurse. She also worked as a General Manager at Papa Johns Pizza in Jackson for over two years. A funeral service to honor the life of Diana Renee Curtis will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Church of Nazarene at 3905 Clinton Road, Jackson, MI 49201 with Pastor Ken Garner and Pastor Margie Hein officiating. Interment will take place in the Rice Cemetery in Moscow. The family will receive friends for visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale. She not only enjoyed many things, but mastered them as well. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed gardening and all sorts of arts and crafts. Dorothy was very giving and enjoyed taking care of people, both in her career and in her home. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and found a special joy in her life, caring for her great-granddaughter Sydney. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Peggy (Kenneth) Butler and Tamra (Carl) Bagwell, both of Homer; her sons Tom (Tina) Waller and Tim (Torre) Waller, both of Coldwater and David (Suzanne) Warner of Homer; sisters Doretha Johnson of Coldwater, Myrtle (Don) Slusher of Litchfield and Rita Jane Hantz of Coldwater, 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. On Feb. 25, 1951, he married Janet Breece in Three Rivers. Duane was employed as a ring coil set up operator at Peterson Spring in Three Rivers from 1975 to 1994. He previously worked at the Scamper Trailer factory in Bristol, Ind. Duane loved boating, model airplanes, computers and Citizen Band Radio with the handle Bulldog. Duane also worked with the sheriff’s department in civil defense and storm watching. Surviving are his wife, Janet Jarratt, of Centreville; daughters, Sylvia (Gary) Clouse of Sturgis and Bonnie Jo (Jeff) Hershberger of Sturgis; sons, Duane Jarratt Jr., of Parchment and Keith (Cody) Jarratt of Constantine; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters Leona Mae Huber of LaGrange, Ind., Joyce Ward of Clove, Ark., Janet Boyce of Three Rivers and Jewel Jarratt of Tucson, Ariz.; and one brother, Carl Jarratt of Baton Rouge, La. Elden Keel

Keel, Elden Ray Breckenridge, Michigan Age 84, went to be with the love of his life and savior on February 12, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, surrounded by family. He was born January 18, 1925, in Midland County, the son of Leroy and Virginia Keel. He graduated from Merrill High School class of 1943. He served as an M.P. in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 15, 1947, he married his grade school sweetheart Ruth Hall in Wheeler, a union of almost 60 years. They raised two children and shared the memories of a lifetime. He farmed until 1967 and retired from Dow Chemical after 35 years. After retiring he worked as a custodian at the Breckenridge United Methodist Church, a currier for Farmers' State Bank and assisted at Whiting's Funeral Chapel. Elden was a member of the Breckenridge United Methodist Church for 31 years; as well as a member of the Breckenridge American Legion. The things he enjoyed most were the hobbies and interests that he shared with his wife, including, camping, gardening, walking, traveling, craft shows, and woodworking. The devotion and care he showed for his wife was the ultimate display of unconditional love. His wonderful stories, jokes, and words of wisdom that made those around him all smile, will be forever missed. As a husband, father, and grandfather he was an exceptional man that made every person in his life feel loved and treasured. GORDON L. SCOTT SANDUSKY Gordon L. Scott, age 87, of Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Marlette Hospice Residence. He was born on July 24, 1921 in Deckerville, Michigan son of the late Ollie and Jessie (Waun) Scott. Gordon married Betsy E. Davis on April 8, 1944 in Sandusky, Michigan. Gordon worked for the Sanilac County Road Commission for over 40 years. George C. Beach West Branch George C. Beach, 85, of West Branch, passed away February 11, 2009, at Bortz Health Care in West Branch. George had lived in West Branch for most of his life. He was a member of the VFW Post #3775 and the Trinity Episcopal Church. George worked as a maintenance supervisor for the West Branch-Rose City Area Schools from 1958-1974. Kay was a wonderful wife, mother and friend to so many people. She graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit and worked at Ford Motor Company until 2006. He was born on April 5, 1944 in Croswell a son of the late Raymond and Ruth A. (Pearce) Coker. Howard married Wilma Benjamin on September 24, 1966 in Marlette. He worked at Aunt Jane's Foods in Croswell for many years. Howard was an avid wood carver. Howard is survived by his wife; Wilma Coker of Croswell, two brothers; Gerald (Lynn) Coker of Croswell and Ralph (Rosemary) Coker of Croswell, two sisters-in-law; Pat (Russell) Brace of Brown City and Debbie (Barry) Brown of St. Helen, one brother-in-law; Robert (Sandra) Benjamin of Brown City, several nieces and nephews and many-many friends. Joseph “Ed” Martin, age 81, of Adrian, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. He was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Detroit to John B. and Louise (Hartung) Martin. He graduated from Morenci High School in 1945. He had been a resident of the Adrian area since 1948. On April 16, 1971, he married Shirley Cook. He was involved in dairy farming for 29 years, and then worked at Merillat Industries, retiring in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army Construction Engineers from 1946 to 1947. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #1665, and the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed bowling, and traveling with his wife. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by three sons, Joseph E. Martin Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Adrian, John D. Martin and his wife, JoAnn, of DeWitt, Iowa, and James A. Martin and his wife, Tami, of Cool, Calif.; a daughter, Marianne Martin of Adrian; three step-sons, Richard Cook Jr. of Adrian, David B. Cook and his wife, Marline, of Ionia, Mich., and Michael E. Cook, of Adrian; a stepdaughter, Sue Lewis, and her husband, Patrick, of Adrian; a brother, Jack Martin, and his wife, Nancy, of Adrian; four sisters, Sr. Pat Martin, O.P. of Adrian, Rosemary Case of Adrian, Barbara Ferris of Adrian, and Martha Monahan and her husband, Paul, of Hudson, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Gena Martin, of Somerset Center; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Kirk L. Edwards, age 60, of Adrian and Bradenton, Fla., went to be with his Savior on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Bay Pines VA Hospital in Florida. Born Dec. 20, 1948, in Tecumseh, Mich., to Dorman and Myrna (Sell) Edwards. After graduating from Tecumseh High School in 1967, Kirk served in the Army in Vietnam between 1968-1970. Kirk owned several floral shops in the local area, including Edwards Floral, Primrose Lane and Adrian Floral. After moving to San Diego, Calif., in 1985, he owned a successful bridal consulting and floral shop. Kirk also enjoyed gardening, reading and watching Fox News with his “puppies.” His flare for interior decorating was brilliant.  Though his creativity and vision were unique, it was his devotion to God and his love of family and friends that will remain with all who knew him. He will be remembered for his quick wit and warm smile. Surviving are his daughters, Jennifer (Art) Acuna of Tecumseh and Sara Edwards of Adrian; his mother, Myrna (Bob) Luse-Babcock of Adrian and Bradenton, Fla.; sister, Beverly (Randy) Kastel of Blissfield; grandchildren, Monica and Isaac, and his former wife, dear friend and mother of his daughters, Judy (Larry) Ross of Adrian.  And his “puppies” and companions, Bogey and Bacall. As well as countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and fellow classmates. Preceding him in death were his father, Dorman, and grandparents, George and Nina (Reinhardt) Sell and Doc and Ellen (Williams) Edwards. Lou Wanda (Guza) Armstead, 56, of Sheridan Township, died Friday Aug. 29, 2008 in Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe., She was born Feb. 21, 1952 in Cass City, daughter of William and Wanda (Billot) Kipp., She married Leon F. Guza in 1970 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Parisville. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1999., She is a graduate of Sandusky High School. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. She enjoyed cats, crafts, gardening, needle work, and visiting with family and friends., Lou Wanda is survived by two daughters, Jane Ann (David) Sadro of Ubly, and Theresa (Dan) Hill of Bad Axe; two sons, Eugene Guza of Bad Axe, and Leon Guza Jr. and Karan of Bad Axe; and nine grandchildren, Justin and Daniel Sadro, Sarah and Kelsey Hill, Sloan, Kelsie and Darian Gross, and Rayne and Sommer Guza. Lou Wanda also is survived by her parents, William and Wanda Kipp of Snover; one brother, Joseph (Sandy) Kipp of Marlette; and one sister, Betty (Dennis) Mausolf-Scharrer of Ruth., Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 3, 2008 in the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, with the Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Bad Axe officiating., Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday. Lyle was born September 24, 1936 in Marshall, Michigan, to Harold and Frances (Thomas) Sanders and came to Holland in 1961. Lyle married the former Julia Steen in 1958.  He received a  bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1959. He had been employed by the E.W. Bliss Co, Northern Fibre Products and the Mitchell Bentley Corporation in materials and production management.  He later owned and operated Alla Products Co. Lyle received a heart transplant in 1990.  Lyle was an Eagle Scout and was involved in Scouting for over 50 years, he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and the Holland Noon Kiwanis Club.  Lyle is survived by his wife, Julia; sons, Jon (Lori) Sanders of Hamilton, Jeff Sanders of Parker, CO; stepgrandchildren, Kara (Brent) Elkins of Allendale, Kelli Alexander of Hamilton; stepgreat-grandchildren, Hannah and Leah Elkins; sisters, Lois (Paul) Eddy of East Grand Rapids, Ellen (Roy) Spires of Tekonsha, MI, Elaine (Skip) Robbins of Battle Creek, MI.  Lyle was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Anne Elizabeth Sanders.   The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, at the Mulder Chapel of Dykstra Life Story Funeral Homes, Holland. Mabel A. Keller, age 97, of Jasper passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.  She was born Nov. 13, 1911, in Pike Township, Fulton County, Ohio, to Alfred and Emma (Kutzley) Barnes. She attended the Fruit Ridge School and was a graduate of Sand Creek High School, Class of 1930. She then graduated from Lenawee County Normal School and taught at several Lenawee one-room schools, the last being Tuft School in Seneca. On March 4, 1933, she married John H. Keller of Morenci in Angola, Ind., and he preceded her in death in 1982. She was a member of the Jasper Woman’s Club, Fairfield Chapter #224 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Weston United Methodist Church, which she attended from early childhood. She and her husband owned Keller Insurance Agency from 1952 to 1978 where she managed the office until the agency was sold to their son, Howard.  She then spent her winters in Palmetto, Fla., where she was active in several clubs until 2004. She is survived by her two sons, Howard J. (Margie) Keller of Sand Creek and George W. (Alice) Keller of Sunbury, Ohio. A third son, Charles, died as an infant. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kevin H. (Debra) Keller of Jasper, Craig (Becky) Keller of Galena, Ohio, Kristi Keller of Sand Creek, Kerry A. (Constance) Keller of Sand Creek, Bradley (Mary) Keller of Galena, Ohio, and Karen Keller Lambka of Sand Creek; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Aldyth Barnes of Seneca. Besides her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Ruth Bovee, Blanche Waldron, Edith Thiel, Erma Graham, Howard Barnes, Donald Barnes, Everett Barnes and Vernon Barnes. The funeral service for Mabel will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Weston Cemetery. She is survived by one sister, Irene Landau of New Jersey; two sons, Ronald (Judy) Salsbury of Johnson City, Tenn. and Daniel Salsbury of Belleville, Mich.; one daughter, Carol (Robert) Mallendick of Maumee, Ohio; four grandsons, David (Tabitha) Salsbury of Johnson City, Tenn., Robert III (Shannon) Mallendick of Maumee, Matthew (Tara) Mallendick of Toledo, Ohio and Marc Mallendick of Maumee; five great-granddaughters, Hailey, Allison, Tabitha, Olivia and Emily Mallendick; three nieces, Ginger, Sharon and Gayle and many close friends. Mrs. Blaine served on the Election Board in Hillsdale for many years and she was a member of the Elks Lodge in Hillsdale. She was a vibrant wife and mother who was active until the very end. She will be missed by all who knew her. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Margaret Gayer Blaine will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale, with Pastor Dan Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in the Camden Cemetery in Camden. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. She was born on July 12, 1915 in Graceton, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Merritt) Swaney. She married Earl W. Dumaw on July 6, 1935 in Caseville. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1983. Mildred worked as a nurse for various facilities, including Huron Medical Center, Lapeer General Hospital, Caro State Hospital and Huron Medical Care Facility. Mildred Van House, age 96, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Cypress Cove Retirement Home in Fort Myers, Florida.  She was born October 22, 1912 in Monticello, Minnesota to George and Mary Cornell.  She moved to Mount Morris, Michigan in 1924 and later lived in East Detroit, Birmingham, and Holland, Michigan, and  most recently in Fort Myers, Florida.  Mildred received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Michigan County Normal (Eastern Michigan University) and Wayne State University, respectively.  She was an elementary school teacher and taught for many years in Monticello, Minnesota, Warren Consolidated and West Ottawa schools in Michigan.  She was a member of the Cypress Lake United Methodist Church.  Mildred is reunited with Earl, her husband of 62 years, who passed away in February 2005.  She leaves one son, Richard Earl (Vickie) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and two great-granddaughters.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorials in Mildred's name may be given to the Cypress Cove Memorial Fund or Cypress Lake United Methodist Church.

Norman G. Wassenaar, age 82, of Hudsonville, went to his Heavenly Home on February 15, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn (Workman) Wassenaar; his children, David A. and Lucille Wassenaar, Linda A. and George Dalman, Ronald J. and Jean Wassenaar; grandchildren, Alisha and Ryan Beltramini, Ryan and Courtney Dalman, Ben and Erika Dalman, Kurt and Anna Dalman, Anne Dalman, Justin Wassenaar, Jeremy Wassenaar, Melissa Wassenaar; great-grandchildren, Ona Mae, Ari Liam, George Bryce, Eleanor Grace (Ellie); his sister, Betty (Keith Fitgerald); brothers, Jack (Shirley) Wassenaar, Gordon (Patsy) Wassenaar; sister-in-law, June Breuker; brother and sister-in-law, John and Carol Workman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albertus and Cleo Elve; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Norm loved travelling, camping with his family, and boating. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a contractor for 38 years. Norm was very active in Alger Park Christian Reformed Church, being a charter member. The family thanks the Raybrook Staff and Faith Hospice for their loving care. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids. The memorial service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Alger Park Christian Reformed Church with Rev. David Deters and Rev. Ecko DeVries officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. She was born September 15, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Stelle) Casady. Phyllis moved here from the Smiths Creek area in 1942, when she married Lloyd Mahaffy on May 4, 1942 in Marlette. She worked for several years at Quality House in Marlette. Phyllis loved to cook, play bingo and loved her animals. She is survived by her husband Lloyd, one daughter; Bonnie Minard of Snover, three sons; Carl Mahaffy of Marlette, Russell (Judy) Mahaffy of Marlette, Charles (Rhonda) Mahaffy of Marlette, two sisters; Beth Kawacki of Canton Twp., Lula Mae Biggs of Garden City,6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Patricia Harder 1927-2009 Patricia Harder, 81, Bay Port, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center of Saginaw. She was born December 23, 1927 in Charleston, W. Va., to the late Taylor and Mary Jane (Bryan) Farrell. She was united in marriage to Ralph Harder on May 16, 1946 in Bay Port. Pat attended the Community of Christ Church of Bay Port, was a member of the Ladies Aide, a member of the Bay Port Woman's Club and was very active in the Bay Port Chamber of Commerce. She loved gardening and enjoying her flowers. She is survived by her husband, Ralph, Bay Port; children, Timothy R. (Sharon) Harder, Pigeon, Scott J. (Carolyn) Harder, Bay Port and Suzanne (Van) Fritz, Owendale; grandchildren, Anthony W. Harder, Christopher S. Harder, Joshua V. Fritz, Ashley A. Fritz, Courtney B. Fritz, Patrick R. Robert Michael Storch, 63, of West New York, NJ and Scottsdale, Ariz. passed away Feb. 11, 2009. Bob was born Aug. 10, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Ind. He lived a very generous, selfless life, always giving himself to others. He attended Ohio Northern University and graduated with a BS in  pharmacy. He also received his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. His work took him all over the country, most recently to Manhattan where he worked for Duane Reade as a VP of Pharmacy and Business Development. His leadership abilities led him from the President of his high school class to the President of his Theta Chi fraternity, and continued into his professional life. He was a member of NACDS, the St. John's College of Pharmacy Dean's Advisory Council, and a guest lecturer at Ohio Northern. He loved his work, his family, and the Lord, and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan (Bragalone) Storch, and his children, Alex and Anna. Bob was the son-in-law of Marilyn and Italo Bragalone, of Hillsdale. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale. Arrangements are being made by the family. Rosella M. “Rosie” Richardson, age 88, of Delta, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon. Mrs. Richardson was a bookkeeper in her husband's businesses, and was employed at the Lyon’s Variety Store, at the Anderson’s as a cashier, at the Trading Post in Lyons, and had worked at the Morenci IGA. She had also attended Auctioneer School and volunteered at Fulton Manor. Rosie enjoyed clogging and belly dancing. Rosella was born in Delta, Ohio, on June 27, 1920, the daughter of the late Arthur M. and the late Ethel M. (Yawberg) Chamberlin. She married Gaylord W. Richardson on July 20, 1939, and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1999. She was a member of the Universalist Unitarian Church in Lyons, Ohio, for many years. Surviving are her children, Ivan (Pam) Richardson of Jonesville, Mich., Sharon (Joe) Eich of Toledo, Lynn (Linda) Richardson of Delta; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; sister Pat (Don) Burgoon of Delta; and sister-in-law Peggy Chamberlin of Delta. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Lewis Chamberlin. Born in Holland, he spent his entire life in the Holland area.  Mr. Reidsma was a lifetime member of Immanuel Church.  He served the church in many ways, from a Sunday school treasurer to helping with missions.  He worked for Dutch Boy Bakery, Holland Rusk Company, General Motors, and eventually the Holland Board of Public Works before retiring. Mr. Reidsma was also an avid fisherman.  Preceding him in death were his wife of 67 years, Irene Reidsma on June 7, 2007; and a daughter, Christine, in 1962.  Surviving are his sons, Vincent and Rosemary Reidsma of Holland, Lance and Lori Reidsma of Holland; daughter, Molly Reidsma of Holland; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers and sisters, Donald Reidsma of Detroit, Raymond Reidsma of Holland, June and Edward Barber of Holland, Donna Covington, of Holland; brother-in-law, Raymond and Bobbie Vander Meulen, of Holland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Church. Survivors include two sisters, Kaye (Jerry) Lambright, Sr., Hillsdale and Sandra Smith, Fremont, Ind.; two nieces; one nephew and special friends, Dave, Jamie, Elizabeth and Isabel Holbrook, Clynn Moore and Jerry Freese. Born Jan. 31, 1925, in the French territory of Suez, Egypt, to Charles and Louise Perceval, she was educated in Egypt and France. Her father, mother and her brother Paul preceded her in death. Surviving her are sister Patricia of Guadeloupe; half sister Jean-Marie of France; son Brian, his wife Bonnie of Vermont, son Marc, his wife Elizabeth, their children Rhianna and Brennan of New Mexico and daughter Monique (Boyd), her husband Kevin and children Avery and Sean of Illinois. Solange moved with her husband to Hillsdale in the 1950s. She was a generous and giving person devoting much of her time to helping other people. She volunteered with the Red Cross, Grey Ladies, Meals on Wheels and was a board member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She worked at Hillsdale College in admissions, teaching summer school French and at the college’s Health Service for more than 20 years. In 2002 she moved to New Mexico. She loved to read, play Bridge and be with her friends and family. Services were held in Rio Rancho on Feb. 9. Those desiring, can make contributions in her name to the American Heart Association. Tracy M. McLain, 45, of Quincy, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at Ingham Regional Medical Center, Lansing, from complications following an asthma attack.  She was born Nov. 17, 1963 in Coldwater, the daughter of Gary and Judith (Sager) Berry. Tracy graduated from Coldwater High School in 1982 and also attended Kellogg Community College. She had worked in real estate sales and was a devoted, energetic and loving homemaker. Tracy was a beautiful and deeply loved individual who will be sadly missed by: her devoted soul mate and husband of 28 years, Tod McLain, whom she married Nov. 21, 1981; daughter Tabbetha (Jody) Greiner of Lansing; son Trenton McLain of Quincy; father Gary Berry; step-mother Emma Jean Berry; sisters Samantha (Brett) VanWormer of Union City and Deborah Berry of Quincy; brother Tim Berry of Quincy; nephews Paul Covey and Brett VanWormer, Jr. and nieces Janessa VanWormer, Asia Covey, Ashlee Berry and Taylor Berry. Preceding her in death was her mother, Judith, and her grandparents, Paul and Marguerite Sager. A memorial service to honor the life of our endearing, bright, loving Tracy will be held at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment in Whig Center Cemetery, Butler Township, will be at a later date. Memorials to her family would be appreciated.


 


 

VIRGINIA R. HERONEMUS DECKER Virginia R. Heronemus, age 88, life resident of Decker, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Hernando Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, Florida. She was born July 14, 1920 in Decker, daughter to the late John and Rachel (Hook) Marsh. She attended the Moshier School. She married Norman Heronemus July 3, 1939 in Lamotte Twp. He preceded her in death October 1, 1992. Virginia was a long time member of the Shabbona United Methodist Church. She worked for Walbro s Corporation in Cass City for 27 years, retiring in 1982. She is survived by one son; Gerald (Jacqueline) Heronemus of Decker, one daughter; Sharon (Richard) Zielesch of Spring Hill, Florida, one brother; Maurice Marsh of Lapeer, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers; Kenneth, Oscar, Junior and Keith and four sisters; Emily Mae, Hazel, Olive and Marjorie. Funeral services were held at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Pastor Ellen Burns and Pastor Dale Turner officiating. Interment was in the Moshier Cemetery in Hemans.
