Aaron A. Hochstedler, age 63, of Burr Oak, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at the home of his brother Timothy Hochstedler in Colon, after a short illness. Aaron was born Sept. 23, 1946, in Sturgis, a son of the late Alvin E. and Mary M. (Yoder) Hochstedler. He had lived most of his life in the rural Burr Oak and Colon area, where he had worked in farming.  Aaron was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Willis Hochstedler of Nunica, Wilma Hochstedler of Burr Oak, Alvin (Anna) Graber of LaGrange, Ind., Paul W. (Miriam) Yoder of LaGrange, Ind., Edward (Edna) Hochstedler of Gambier, Ohio, Tobie (Leah) Hochstetler of Mendon, Timothy (Violet) Hochstedler of Colon and Irvin (Catherine) Yoder of Keosauqua, Iowa; an uncle, Aaron (Sylvia) Yoder of Mio; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Magdalena Mae Hochstedler, in 1976. The family will receive relatives and friends after noon Friday and all day  Saturday at the Tobie Hochstetler home, 27057 Spring Creek Road, Mendon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Tobie Hochstetler residence, with Bishop LeRoy Borkholder and ministers, Norman Yoder and Dan Hochstetler officiating.   Burial will follow at the Old Order Amish Cemetery, Centreville. Arrangements were made by Schipper Funeral Home  in Colon.

Anna Lois Eccles, 101, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, in Adrian, Mich. She was born on March 8, 1909, in Raisin Township, Mich., to William J. and Clara Opal (Osborne) Mitchell. Anna is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allen Eccles, and five brothers, Bob, John, Ed, Hugh and Jim Mitchell. Following Anna’s wishes, no services will be held and Anna will be laid to rest in Holloway Presbyterian Cemetery in Raisin Township. Arrangements were entrusted to the Wagley Funeral Home/Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield, Mich.

Anna Mae Heller St. Johns Age 82, went to heaven on August 3, 2010 to be with her Savior. Anna was born in Riley Twp. on September 21, 1927 to German parents, Otto and Grace (Bronson) Heller. She was raised on the family farm along with her 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Anna worked for several years at Federal Mogul where she met her future husband, Paul Heller. Anna married Paul Heller on July 27, 1957 and he preceded her in death on October 2, 2008. Anna was a devout Lutheran and was involved with the St. Johns Lutheran Church. Anna is survived by her daughter LuAnn Heller of Tucson, AZ , her two sons, Scott Heller of St. Johns and Mark Heller of Stevensville, MT; grandson Cameron Heller of St. Johns; sister, Betty Metz and brothers, Carl (Dorothy) Witt, Clare Witt and Fred (Rosalyn) Witt; sister-in-law, Dorothy Witt and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Fisher and brother, Jay Witt. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with Rev. George Brinley officiating. Billy E. Hicks, age 77, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Garrett, Ky., a son of the late Adam and Clara (Combs) Hicks. On Dec. 15, 1956, he married Alma Morrison in Cynthiana, Ky. Billy had been a resident of Sturgis since August 1965, moving here from Kentucky. He retired from the Kirsch Company in 1998 after 17 years of employment. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War and earning the rank of corporal. He enjoyed antiques, sales, attending auctions, and scratching lottery tickets. Surviving are his wife: Alma; a son, Douglas G. Hicks and Cathy Barnes of Sturgis; two daughters, Sheryl King of Burr Oak and Connie (Jim) Clements of Bronson; three grandchildren, Ryan Hicks, Reesa Johnson and Serena Lipscomb; two stepgrandchildren, Jimmy Clements and Patty Clements; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Denver (Julie) Hicks of Everett, Wash., Thomas (Martha) Hicks of LaGrange, Ky., and Herbert Hicks of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles, Orville, Hansel and Cletis, and a sister, Ruth Rowe. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Cassandra “Cassie” Ludwick-Spry, age 64, of Nottawa, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at her home, following an extended illness.   She was born March 23, 1946, in Bronson, a daughter of Harry and Theresa (Sikorski) Ludwick. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduated from Bronson High School, and later received her associates degree at Glen Oaks Community College.   She had worked at Denton Mills, Full Service Electric Motors and most recently at Audra Inc. in Sturgis.   She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon. Cassie loved to travel and had visited numerous foreign countries. Cassie is survived by her husband, Melvin Spry of Sturgis; two sisters-in-law, Jean Guth of Gobles and Sandra Ludwick of Detroit; two cousins, Roger and Maurice Novereski; a nephew; and three nieces.   She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Ronald Ludwick. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.   A funeral Mass for Cassie Ludwick will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon, with the Rev. Charlie Earl Morris Charlie Earl Morris, age 75, of Warren, died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. He was born on February 11, 1935 in Armathwaite, Tennessee, a son of Erve and Bertha (Webb) Morris. On May 9, 1953, Charlie was united in marriage to Wanda Charline Welch in Rossville, Georgia. He retired in 2004 from Highland Park Auto where he was owner for over 33 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Charlie was a member Masonic Lodge #464 in Royal Oak. He enjoyed family, cars and racing. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Charline; sister, Christine Buck; and brothers, Richard, Calvin, Kenneth, David, Eugene and Bruce Morris. Charlotte Ann Nardizzi, 85, of Indian River, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. Charlotte was born August 12, 1924 in Grand Traverse County. She was the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Tompkins) Oatley. She grew up on Old Mission Point and as a young girl her family moved to Traverse City. Charlotte graduated from Traverse City High School in 1942. On May 7, 1944 she married Pasquale (Pat) Nardizzi in Traverse City. Throughout the years, the Nardizzi family has lived in Hale and Benzonia, Mich. They settled in Indian River in 1961 where they have been since. Charlotte and Pat enjoyed spending their winters in North Carolina. Charlotte enjoyed crafts, cooking and playing cards. She was an active member of the Indian River United Methodist Church as well as the United Methodist Women. She was a past president of the Cochran-Roberts V.F.W. Post Auxiliary and past worthy matron of the Primrose Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indian River. She is survived by her husband, Pat; children, Rose E. (Charles) Marks of Flint, Mich., Pasquale (Nancy) Nardizzi, Jr. of Indian River, Mario L. Nardizzi of Indian River; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Carl (Inez) Oatley of Williamsburg, Mich., Jack Oatley of North Fort Meyers, Florida, Virginia (Virgil) Ritondale of Tennessee, Richard (Helen) Oatley of Traverse City, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Justin, and her sister, Doris. Born in Petoskey, Mich., on the morning of April 4, 1978, Corey grew up in Alanson and Petoskey, Mich., but always said the mountains of Montana were his true home since he had traversed his first mountain pass at age 5. Corey loved adventure, nature, and the out-of-doors, he was a free soul when snowboarding through Lone Peak in Big Sky, Mont., and biking through the Big Sky trails. He was taught to fish by his stepfather, Tusco Heath, when he was 3, and had his first camping experiences then, too.

Donald E. Rutledge, 86, of Adrian passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Bixby Medical Center. Donald was born July 7, 1924, in Alvordton, Ohio, the only son of John and Sylvia (Kuney) Rutledge.    While serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Don participated in the North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy campaigns.   Prior to completing his tour of duty, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor.   On March 23, 1946, Donald married Tillie Soto in New York City. Tillie, his wife of more than 64 years, survives. Don worked for Faraday in Tecumseh for more than 23 years. He was a talented woodworker, making many pieces of furniture. Don also loved photography and took many photos for a local motorcycle club. He built his own forge and made numerous knives. Don was well known in the community as an active member of the VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584, participating in hundreds of veterans’ funeral services, parades and flag raising ceremonies. In addition to his wife, Don is survived by seven children,  Vicky (Duane) Winter of Adrian, Johann (Dave) Townsend, also of Adrian, Donald (Reneé) Rutledge, Jr. of Brooklyn,; Tammy Rutledge of Colorado, John Rutledge of Indianapolis, Jacquelyn (Vincent) Torres and Mike Rutledge, both of Adrian; 18 grandchildren, Robert (Candy) Jardine, Chad Jardine, Steve Winter, Kim (Craig) Davis, Melissa Winter, Rayne Rutledge, Alicia (Scott) Barnes and Cristy (Brian) Justice, Timmaira Silvers, Patrick, Joshua, Tyler, Janeé, Mikayla and Laken Bennion, and V. Alex, Isaac and Jaiden Torres; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Isaac Bennion; and three sisters, Velma Snyder, Viola Suter and Evelyn Smith. The funeral service for Don will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Wagley Funeral Home with military honors conducted by the VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584. Dorothy L. Titus, age 87, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Holland, passed away Sunday morning, August 1, 2010, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. She was born November 4, 1922, in Holland, MI, the daughter of Leonard and Gertrude (Bossler) Overway. On April 26, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne E. Titus. She was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Co. for several years until her retirement.  She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Kalamazoo and volunteered at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Wayne; their two daughters, Cheryl Titus of Kalamazoo and Dyan Titus of Tamarac, FL; two brothers, Gene Overway of La Mesa, CA and August (Mary) Overway of Holland, MI; one sister, Patricia (Tom) Hoewisch of McKinney, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Roger and Stan Overway.        Funeral services for Dorothy will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd., Kalamazoo, with Pastor Timothy W. Seeber officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo. Eileen G. (Fish) and Kenneth E. Ritter Eileen Ritter died of cancer May 7, 2010, a day after celebrating her 89th birthday. Kenneth Ritter, born April 25, 1923, died December 10, 2004, also of cancer. Eileen, born in Westville, NY May 6, 1921 to Lee and Fern (Miller) Fish, lived in Cheboygan most of her young life attending St. Maryís Catholic School and Cheboygan High School. Eileen met Ken while she was fishing near the Icebreaker Mackinaw and, apparently liking what she caught, she didnít release him. They were married March 17, 1946 and raised their two children, Edward and Karyn, in Chicago and Northbrook. Eileen worked in Cheboygan for several doctors, was the lab technician at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital, and was the lab technician at Washington National Insurance Company of Evanston, IL for over 20 years. Ken served in the United States Coast Guard aboard the Icebreaker Mackinaw and worked for Johnson-Lindroth printing company of Skokie, IL for over 40 years. Eileen and Ken are survived by their children Edward (Mary) of Sun Prairie, WI and Karyn McGrory of Prospect Heights, IL, five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, Kenís sister LaVerne Lindroth of Skokie, IL, and sister-in-law Ernestine Hinkley Fish of Cheboygan, and many nieces and nephews. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold, Leo, Russell and William and sister Mary. Ken was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Clara (Peters) Ritter of Chicago. A grave site burial ceremony for both Eileen and Ken will be at Calvary Cemetery, Cheboygan, on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 10 A.M.  Memorial services were previously held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice Care, and Nursing homes of your choice.

John (Jacquelina) Roggen.  Her family eventually moved to the Hamilton area where she graduated as the Valedictorian of Holland High School.  She attended Hope College and also graduated as Valedictorian at the age of 20.  Ella played the organ and piano for many churches in the area and was a member of Faith Christian Center. Preceding her in death was her husband, Earle, on August 20, 1994; son-in-law, Jack Hamelink, Nov. 1, 1990; and a brother and sister, Leon Roggen and Margaret De Pree. Surviving are her children, Georgia (Kenneth) Horn of California, Jeanie (Steve) Graves of Durand, Harry Tellman of Holland, Nancy (Jerry) Hamelink of Vicksburg, Marge (Ted) Ellis of IN, Dave (Beth) Tellman of Allegan; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Dr. Ivan (Jane) Roggen and Marian McGilvra; sister-in-law, Edna Roggen; nieces and nephews.   Eloise Victoria Perry Hess Parkerson, age 85,  passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Hospice House of Holland. She was born on September 23, 1924, in Emmet County to Chester and Jenny Anderson. When she was 21 months old, she was taken to live with William and Isabelle Perry of Harbor Springs. She attended Holy Childhood School and Harbor Springs High School, graduating in 1942. After a short time as a nurse’s aid and a phone operator, Eloise married the love of her life, John F. Hess, of Petoskey in 1944. Their oldest son, John F.W. was born while John was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. They had four more children, Christopher, Matthew, Melissa and Franklin. In the 1960s, Eloise was encouraged by her father to enroll in college. After working her way part-time through school, along with raising a family, she graduated cum laude from Michigan Technological University in Houghton in 1973. She went on to become the founder and director of the Western Upper Peninsula Substance Abuse Program for four years, which she did with great compassion and dedication. After losing John to cancer in 1974, Eloise married the second love of her life, W. Leo Parkerson of Illinois in 1977. Together they ran the National Paint Company of Ottawa, Illinois, being very active in the local community. Eloise continued to pursue her new interests, becoming a certified wallpaper specialist and also earning accolades in interior decorating.  They sold the store and retired in 1990. In 1992, she moved to Zeeland to be closer to her family. Eloise leaves a legacy of gratefulness to God, acknowledging Him for all the mercy and blessings she has been showered with over her lifetime.   Eloise is preceded in death by her husbands, John F. Hess and W. Leo Parkerson; a son, Franklin Albert; and two brothers, William Perry and Wayne Perry. Eloise leaves behind a grateful family, John F.W. and Phyllis Hess of Charlevoix, Christopher and Janet Hess of Sault Ste. Marie, Matthew Hess of Negaunee,  Steve and Melissa Boerman of Zeeland;  stepdaughters, Mary Ellen and Sam Chiarelli,  Carol Morrison, both of Florida; nephew, William Perry; along with her much beloved 12 grandchildren and eight great-granddaughters.   A small family ceremony in gratefulness for her life will be celebrated on the shores of Whitefish Bay, Lake Superior later in August. On January 8, 1949 in Grand Rapids, she married Maurice Smith, who preceded her in death 1997. In addition to raising her family, she was employed at several factories in Mt. Clemens and Richmond for many years. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Cross in the Woods Catholic Church, and enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

Ethel L. Cassie, 91, of Topinabee, passed away Friday under loving attention at Tendercare of Cheboygan. A resident of Topinabee since 1977, moving from Redford, Mich., Ethel was born November 9, 1917 in Calumet, the daughter of George and Lucille (Moyle) Maddick.  Growing up in Detroit, she was a graduate of Redford High School, and on November 24, 1937, she married Charles Cassie, who preceded her in death in 1977.  She was a charter member and active member of the Berean Bible Church in Topinabee and was employed at the Topinabee Library for several years. Baking was her hobby, yet making everyone feel special and sharing her faith were her gifts. Her daughter, Donna Cassie preceded her in death in 1962. Surviving are her son, Charles (Kathryn) Cassie of Fenton; her daughter, Joyce (James) Palmer of Topinabee; 5 grandchildren: James (Patricia) Palmer, of Gaylord, David Palmer of Roseville, William (Julie) Palmer of Temperance, Heather (Dennis) Farrell of Fenton, and Jeannie (Mark) McDonald, also of Fenton; 9 great grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Robbins, Samantha, Nicole, Elizabeth, and Christopher Palmer, and Cassie, Rebecca, and Jordan McDonald, Grace Farrell and 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Jim (Rosetta) Maddick of Canton, sisters, Marlene Bowe of Roseville, and Carol Hardt of Berkley, and several special nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, husband and daughter, Ethel was preceded in death by her siblings Alice Hoppe, Dolores Upton and Bill Maddick. Fannie H. Chupp, 95, of  Sturgis, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 12:20 a.m. Monday at her home. She was born July 17, 1915, in Shipshewana, Ind., to Harvey and Lovina (Kauffman) Kauffman. On Nov. 7, 1936, she married Levi S. Chupp. He died March 3, 1990. She was a homemaker and a past member of the former Plato Mennonite Church. She liked to quilt, write poetry and wrote an autobiography. She also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and other games, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She did cross-country taxi driving for the Amish. Survivors include  two daughters, Wilma (Kenneth) Gillette of Sturgis and Mary Levitz of Angola, Ind.;  three sons, Elmer (Pat)  Chupp of O’Brien, Fla., Daniel (Jann) Chupp of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Edward  (Lola) Chupp of Sturgis; a sister, Elizabeth Hochstetler of Nappanee, Ind.;  16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband; three grandsons; a great-grandson; a brother, Edward Kauffman; three sisters, Laura Miller, Katie Eicher and Mattie Pothoof; and two half-brothers, Henry and David Kauffman. She was born April 3, 1927, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Edward and Hazel (Cady) Persing. Frances had resided in Sturgis most of her life. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker and enjoyed gardening and collecting stones. Frances is survived by her longtime companion, Dan Nolen of Sturgis; three sons, Wayne (Lori) Frohriep and Larry Frohriep, both of Sturgis, and David (Cindy) Frohriep of Bronson; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Persing of Orland, Ind., and James Persing of St. Louis.; a sister, Carman Randall of Elkhart, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and a grandson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Frances Frohriep will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Frank R. Jones, age 48, of Three Rivers, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Monday Aug. 2, 2010, at his home.   He was born in Three Rivers on Jan. 29, 1962, the son of Ismon and Ida (Bonannella) Jones and was a lifetime resident of the Mendon-Three Rivers area.   He graduated form Mendon High School in 1980, and attended Glen Oaks Community College and Western Michigan University.  He was currently self-employed and the owner of Concrete Solutions and Design.  He had been employed at Hydramatic and retired from American Axle in Three Rivers in 2008.  Frank was an avid bowler and golfer.  He loved his Detroit Tigers and Michigan State Spartans. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle, and his family and friends meant the world to him. Frank is survived by his brother, Stuart Jones (Mary Sommerfield) of Grand Junction, Colo.; his sister, Susan Jones (Monica Del Castillo) of Holt, Mich.; his niece, Katie Del Castillo; a stepbrother, Jim (Becky) Wise of Three Rivers; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.   He was preceded in death by his father, Ismon Jones in 1981; and by his mother, Ida B. Wise in 2006. Garth A. Klett, age 78, of  Constantine, passed away Monday, Aug. 2nd, 2010, at the VA Ann Arbor Health Care System. He was born Nov. 19, 1931, in White Pigeon, a son of  Wilbur and Fannie (Woods) Klett. Garth graduated from Constantine High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and continued service to his country as a life member of the American Legion Post # 223, Constantine, the 40/8 club, D.A..V.,  and VFW of Marcellus. On April 18, 1959, he married Mary Granzotto in Three Rivers. His entire adult life, Garth owned and operated the family farm started by his great-grandfather 150 years ago. He had also worked at Bendix Corp. in South Bend, Ind., in his early years. Garth served on the board of the ASCS (Farm Service Agency) in Centreville for 25 years, 47 years as a Constantine Township trustee, was a member of the Republican Party, classic antique car club, Model A Club of America, the V-8 Club of America and life member of the Eagles. In 1992, he was named Constantine Citizen of the Year. Garth was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Three Rivers. Surviving are his wife Mary Klett; son, James (Emma) Klett of Constantine;  daughters, Kathy (Tim) Vantine of Constantine and Christine (Brett) McIntire of San Rafael, Calif.; grandchildren Eric and Mark Vantine, Craig (Katie) Klett and Elizabeth Klett; and great-grandson Hunter Klett. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son John Klett; and a sister, Murial Klett. Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m. at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. A scripture service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Gary was employed for over 35 years at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2005. Following his retirement, he went to work part-time for Louie’s Market. Gary liked to help other people; he was very active in his church, the 7th Day Adventist Church, and since his retirement loved to travel. Gary recently married the former Marge Matts, on May 2, 2010 in Cheboygan. He is survived by his wife, Marge; his son, Gary A. (Kara) Provo of Cheboygan; his granddaughter, Leah Jean Provo; his step-children, Nick (Michelle), Mike, Matt (Sky), Jason (Stacey), Desiree, Ashley, Amy and Amanda; 11 step-grandchildren; a brother, Dean Provo of Cheboygan; and sister, Theresa (Don) Parrott of Indian River. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann; sister, Bonnie Monville; and grandmother, Belle Provo. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held on Friday July 2, 2010 at the 7th Day Adventist Church on Lafayette Street at 1 p.m., with Pastor Paul Calvelage officiating. Mrs. Genevie Etta Penrose, age 87, of Jenison, passed away late Friday evening, July 30, 2010, at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming.   After graduating from Cedar Springs High School, she worked in Grand Rapids for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator. A veteran of  World War II, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at O’Reilly General Military Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, where she met her husband, U.S. Army SFC (retired) Walter L. Penrose.  They enjoyed 53 years of marriage  until his death in 1999. After raising her children to school age, she worked at the University of Michigan, Wolverine World Wide and was a travel agent for the past 30 years. Gen was formerly a member of the Cedar Springs Order of Eastern Star and the American Business Women’s Association. She loved to travel, knit, cook and spend time with her family. Surviving are a son, Walter L. Penrose II; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Beck; grandchildren, Jennifer and Andy Ketchum, Melissa and Chris Dillon, Megan and Caleb Opp, and Jason Penrose; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her brother, Laurence Reyburn of Cedar Springs; and sister, Florence Yurich of Rancho Mirage, CA; and many dear nieces and nephews.   The family wishes to express their gratitude to the special folks at Metro Hospital, Sunset Home Care, Tendercare of Wyoming and Dr. Kevin Furlong for the extraordinary care they provided our Mother during the her final and difficult years. He married Janice M. Roeser on July 24, 1971 in Sherwood. She survives. He worked for Climax Specialty Metals in Coldwater for 20 years. George is survived by his wife Janice, daughters Toni Jones and Rebecca (Scott) Butters, son Brian (Melanie) Jones, grandchildren Sean, Rochelle, Seth S., Jacob, Jeremy, Jordan, Seth H., Justin and Ciearra, great-granddaughter Payton, sisters Garnett and Barbara, brother Lawrence, sister-in-law Dorothy; close friend and neighbor Claudine Cox along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeffery Jones, five brothers and three sisters. George was a man with a heart of gold who was married to his wife Janice for 39 years. He enjoyed NASCAR, Sprint car and hydroplane racing. George thoroughly loved riding motorcycles and also liked watching TV, sports, hunting and his dogs. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater. Joan L. “Nana” Milliman, 71, of  Sturgis, passed away Saturday morning July 31, 2010, at Fairview Living Centre in Centreville. She was born March 20, 1939, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Harrison and Viva (Waldron) Rippey. Nana had resided in the Sturgis area her whole life, and graduated from Burr Oak High School with the class of 1958. She retired from the Dometic Corporation in LaGrange, Ind., after 19 years of employment. Following her retirement, she worked as a receptionist at Wal-Mart in Sturgis for several years. Nana was a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Auxiliary and a past member of the Women of the Moose Sturgis Chapter #613. She enjoyed playing bingo, gambling and going to casinos. She loved her many animals. She is survived by two daughters, Kristine Milliman and Karla Milliman, both of Sturgis; four grandchildren, Justin Marie Smith of Thayer, Mo., Heather Waite of Sturgis, Adam Boughton of Sturgis and Andrew Boughton, stationed in Germany with the U.S. Air Force; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce (Howard) VanEtten of South Carolina and Jerry Shaver of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Kathy Milliman. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship, sharing of memories and a meal from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW, 264 W. Fawn River Road, Sturgis. Karen was a lifelong Lyons-area resident and was a graduate of the Evergreen High School class of 1983. She worked at the Lyons Hair Salon in Lyons, Ohio, for many years. Karen was a “the glass is half-full” person who was always giving to others. Her passions in life were her family, friends and, of course, running. After she lost first husband, Dennis Donahue, she started a “trot for the track,” which was a huge part of the new track at Evergreen High School. Her life has touched many people from young to old and she will be missed very much by each of them. Besides her husband, Tim, Karen is survived by a daughter, Taryn Donahue of Lyons; two sons, Brandon (Andrea Abbott) Donahue of Lyons and Blake Donahue of Lyons; stepchildren, Lexie, Mackenzie, Shelbie and Logan Pinkelman; two sisters, Debby (Rick) Gleckler of Wauseon and Lynne (Kenneth) Shadbolt of Morenci; two brothers, Jeffrey (Lori) Frantz of Clinton and Michael Frantz of Morenci; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Kitty Donahue of Lyons; stepfather, Bud Spencer of St. Helen; and many nieces and nephews. LeRoy S. "Clem" Clemens Delta Township Age 81, our loving father, and grandfather passed away August 5, 2010. Born August 2, 1929 in Kent County, MI. LeRoy earning his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music from M.S.U. He served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal and Ft. Knox Band Director from 1952-54. He was the first Band Director and taught history at Everett High School for many years. He was a member, manager, and second oboist of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and was member of the Lansing Community Band. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. He loved sailing LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn in April 2010; parents, Alvin and Frances Clemens; sister, Elinore Watson; brother, Alvin Clemens Surviving are his four children, Christopher (Kelli) Clemens, Joseph (Kate) Clemens, Frances (Marty) Jones, and Jeanne (Jerry) Sutton; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and friends. Leona Elizabeth Wegner, age 97, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital. Leona was born Aug. 25, 1912, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late August and Ella (Schweder) Siefert. On Nov. 24, 1934, she married Harold C. Wegner in Sturgis. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2000. Leona was a homemaker and had lived all of her life in the Sturgis area, graduating from Sturgis High School with the class of 1930.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis, and a former member of St.John’s Lutheran Church. She sang in both choirs and many funerals and also WTRC Elkhart radio station. She was a board member of Freedom and Fawn River school districts.She was a charter member of the original county school board and the now St. Joseph County ISD for 24 years. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy L. (Alvin) Inman, and a son, David L. Margarette was born on Jan. 19, 1916 to David and Lena (Amacher) Thomas, of Barneveld. She lived her entire life in Barneveld and attended Barneveld Schools and M.A.T.C. of Madison. She married J. Rayman Osborn on July 28, 1942 at the Veterans Chapel in Wood, Wisc. Margarette enjoyed life to the fullest and took extreme pride and joy in her family. She loved to cook and bake and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She spent many hours caring for her flowers and gardens over the years. Margarette is survived by her daughters Evelyn (Jim) Mead, Janet (Jim) Noble, Beverly Beemer, Phyllis (David) Neisen, Ramona (Ken) Palzkill and Shirley (Bill) Kiefer; her son Thomas Osborn; her brother Harold Thomas; many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Rayman Osborn, in 1965, her daughter, Mavis Leiske, in 2008, her father, D.D. Thomas, in 1954, her mother, Lena Thomas, in 1978, her brother, Walter Thomas, in 1987 and her son-in-law, Charles Beemer, in 2010. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the Barneveld Congregational United Church of Christ in Barneveld. Rev. Bob Sichta will officiate. Burial will be held in White Church Cemetery. In November 1994, Marion and Richard moved to Topinabee where they have been since. Marion loved to cook. She enjoyed music being surrounded by her family. She attended the Berean Bible Church and CURVES. She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Barbara (Ray) Hoff of Topinabee, James (Lori) Cummings of Topinabee, Kathleen Clancy of Tompinabee; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, John DeJong of Topinabee; many nieces and nephews. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, sewing and horseback riding. She was an animal lover. She also enjoyed being a 4-H leader for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Lois (Donald) Crooks of Millersburg, Mary (Gary) Sias of Cheboygan, Betty (Larry) LaFave of Onaway and Missouri and Arlene Susan (Victor) Garms of Ocqueoc; a son, Elmer (Sandy) Whaley of Rogers City; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; her brothers, Herbert Stock Jr. of Millersburg and Sam Stock of New Mexico; and her sisters, Lois (Bruce) Price of Onaway and Minnie (Jim) Wilkinson of Onaway. Mary Jofred Christine Weiderman, 95, of Sturgis, owner and operator with her husband of Weiderman Fruit Farm in Sturgis for 52 years, went to be with her Lord on Saturday evening, July 24, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born May 2, 1915, in Summit, N.J., a daughter of the late E.G. and Lilly (Alfsen) Dillon. Mary had resided in Sturgis most of her life, and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1934.She was named the female athlete of her class. On Oct. 14, 1938 she married Kenneth Donald Weiderman in Sturgis. He died March 15, 2001. She was a longtime faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis, where she had served with the altar guild, ladies aid and sang in the choir. She enjoyed driving, especially her golf cart. Mary and Ken enjoyed traveling throughout the United States including California, the east coast and a trip to Norway, and she loved time spent with her family. She was proud to have ridden in the Sturgis Toy Run the past two years. Mary also enjoyed playing bingo at Thurston Woods, and she was one of the founding members of the Sturgis area TOPS program. She is survived by two daughters, Christine Oxender of Sturgis and Sharon (Mike) Webb of Stevensville; four sons, Kenneth D. (Marge) Weiderman, Jr. of Arlington, Texas, Allen (Irene) Weiderman of Jacksonville, Fla., David (Cindy) Weiderman of Sturgis and Jim (Barbara) Weiderman of Sturgis; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward (Elizabeth) Dillon of Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Dillon of Memphis, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, David Dillon, James Dillon and Adolf Dillon; and a nephew, Bruce Dillon. Melanie graduated from Sturgis High School and attended Michigan State University. She graduated fromUrbana University in 1984. Melanie was employed by the State of Ohio department of job and family services as a supervisor in the child support division. She also had a part-time accounting service. She was a faithful member of Jubilee Mennonite Church and served as financial chairperson, pianist for worship services and small-group leader. Living out her faith, Melanie was a testament to all she encountered. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, and one hour prior to services at Jubilee Mennonite Church. Pastor TonyDoehrmann will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Norbert Joseph Rapp Norbert Joseph Rapp, age 72, a retired employee of GMC's Pontiac division, died Friday in Royal Oak at William Beaumont Hospital after 13 years of declining health. Norbert was born and reared in Romeo, owned Rapp's Rose Haven Orchards in Armada for 21 years and then returned to reside in Romeo. While he was growing up, he attended Romeo schools and was the President of FFA and 4H. He attended Michigan State University where he studied horticulture. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. As an adult he was member of the Armada School Board and owned King Fisher Manufacturing. Norbert enjoyed many pastimes including fishing, hunting, and hosta growing. He was a member of the Michigan Hosta Society, Detroit Metro Hosta Society, Lapeer Garden Club, Lapeer Koi Club, Detroit Area Woodturners, American Hosta Society, Michigan Koi and Pond Club, Michigan Bat Society, Ducks Unlimited, and the Michigan Woodworking Guild. He was a faithful and adoring husband. He married Michelle Renee Rastigue on May 13, 1961 at St Peter's Catholic Church in Mount Clemens. He was also a dedicated father who was immensely proud of his five children and sixteen grandchildren. Although we knew this day would eventually come, our hearts are heavy at the loss of our gentle giant. He left an indelible imprint on those who knew him. Though he had hoped to accomplish more, he left this world a better place. Norbert is survived by his wife, Michelle, of Romeo; his five children, Margaret (Jay) Jaeger, Norbert (Denise) Rapp, Matthew (Basma) Rapp, Monica (Joe) Cavaliere, and John (Jeanne) Rapp; two brothers, Richard (Cynthia) Rapp of Ray and Karl (Karen) Rapp; sixteen grandchildren, Michelle Jaeger, John Jaeger, Sophia, James & Joseph Jaeger, Anton & Conrad Rapp, Ashley, Emily & Olivia Rapp, Isabella, Giuseppe & Giovanni Cavaliere, and Zachary & Angelina Rapp; and two best friends, Victor Rios and Jerome Fontenot. He will be joining those who have gone before him, his parents Herman and Therese Rapp and his granddaughter Katherine Jaeger. Brad, along with his family, was a local business owner of Nash Drug Stores, Nash Hallmark Store, and Jill’s Office Supply. Brad attended the First United Methodist Church of Hillsdale and was a lifetime member of the Optimist Club. He also was a member of the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. Brad was an outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family. Surviving besides his wife Kerri are two children, Samuel William and Coby Bradley Nash; one brother, Bill (Stephanie) Nash of Naperville, Ill.; two aunts and uncles, Sandra and David Schuldt of Iowa City and John and Brenda Sherrick of Bettendorf, Iowa. Brad was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Jane Nash. Clare Edwin Monroe, 97, passed away peacefully Monday, July 26, 2010, at his home in Pittsford surrounded by his family. Clare and Evelyn (Wierda) were married for 69 years until she passed away in Sept 2006. Clare is survived by his five children: Barbara Page of Fairbanks, Alaska; Kathleen (Raymond) Hildebrand of Columbia, Missouri; Thomas (Judith) Monroe of Evanston, Illinois; James (Cindy) Monroe of Traverse City and Joanne (Michael) Shaw of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.   Clare began his education in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Pittsford High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Dairy Science from Michigan State University (formerly Michigan State College) in 1934. Education was a driving force in Clare’s life.  He taught Vocational Agriculture for 43 years as well as advisor for the FFA, class advisor for the junior class and drama coach.  While teaching he was an active member of MEA/NEA and continued throughout his retirement as an active member of the MEA of Retired School Personnel.   Service to community and church were values that motivated Clare throughout his life.  He proudly represented the Republican Party at both the county and state level, was a member of the Pittsford Lions Club, SAR (Sons of the American Revolution), Farm Bureau, local and state historical societies, deacon of the Pittsford Congregational Church and Clan Munro USA.   Clare maintained his family’s centennial farm that dates back to 1836. He joined his father, MC Monroe, in the family dairy farm and bee business in 1945.  Upon his retirement from teaching, Clare started a second career managing his own greenhouse business (which he started from scratch). He retired from the flower business when he turned 90.   Clare was honored with many awards over a lifetime of service to family, community and God.   He lived a rich and fulfilling life and will be missed and celebrated by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 30 at the Pittsford Congregational Church, 4340 South Pittsford Road in Pittsford with Pastor Terry Bobzien officiating. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by a daughter, Donna Amy (William) Podobinski of Pittsburgh; two step-daughters, Carol (Bill) Dunn of Williamston and Joyce (James) Nickless of Adrian; a brother, Donald Nash of Pittsford; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jebey worked for 39 years at Georgia-Pacific in Kalamazoo. In his retirement years he was a crossing guard for the city of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; five brothers; a grandchild and a son-in-law. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jean; sons, Clifford Pruitt, Alan (Judy) Pruitt, James (Heidi) Pruitt; daughters, Joan (Billy) LeMaster, Barbara Montgomery; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Earlene Wallace; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Clyde Park Church of the Nazarene, 2545 Clyde Park SW. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A cherished wife and mother, Juanita was born June 28, 1920.   She was preceded in death by her brother, Bud Arbuckle and a sister, Fay Schutte and one great-grandson, Brad Hicks. She has a surviving sister, Norma Welsh, of Adrian. Juanita is survived by her husband, Lowell. Juanita’s lifework was a helpmate to her husband, a farmer and her Sand Creek High School sweetheart, whom she married on Dec. 9, 1938, a marriage that lovingly continued for 71 years. Juanita was a family-oriented lady, famous for her pie baking and original sayings. A devout Christian, she was a member of the West Rome Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. Juanita was “mom” to five children; David (Sylvia) Hassenzahl of Manitou Beach, Linda (Charlie) Schaffner of Hudson, John (Deborah) Hassenzahl of Jacksonville, Fla., Phil (Susan) Hassenzahl of Fowlerville, and Cathy (Brent) Moore of Pittsford. She was “grandma” to Barb (James) Moore, Janelle (Jeff) Adams, Susan (Jim) Blomgren, Mark (Rachel) Schaffner, Dawn (John) Woo, Lori (John) Christiano, Kimberly (Bryan) Mead, Daniel (Angela) Hassenzahl, Josh (Sara) Moore, Andrew Hassenzahl, and Jacob Moore. Juanita’s family also included great-grandchildren, Lynnzie, Brady, Cari, Cameron, Madeline, Zachary, Luke, Alexa Grace, Corey, Lauren, Claire, Samantha, Lia, Will, Rachel, Helena, and Trent. Martha M. Turner Oct. 7, 1947— Aug. 3, 2010 Martha Mae (Bowen) Turner, 62, was born an identical twin to Robert and Sarah Bowen, October 7, 1947, in Lima, Ohio. Martha slipped quietly into God’s presence at her home in the company of her children and husband on Aug. 3, 2010. She was married Feb. 19, 1972, to Curtis Turner, and he survives. Martha’s life was characterized by a quick wit and a disarming sense of humor that helped bring cheer and healing to those she met. In 1969, she graduated from Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in Flint, and served with Dr. Bruce Davenport in Jackson, before marrying Curtis. She loved to chat with her patients, sing to them and offer words of encouragement to smooth the way toward comfort and healing. She was employed for about 18 years at Hillsdale Community Health Center. Her hobbies included singing, photography, bird watching, fishing, needlework, scrap booking and travel. Martha was a world traveler under VISA (Volunteers In Service Abroad) of the Free Methodist Denomination. In 1970 she visited Rhodesia, (Zimbabwe) and South Africa, with singing groups. In  she traveled to Greece, Egypt, India, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, as a soloist to various Free Methodist Missions in Asia and the Far East. After she married Curtis, and as their children were grown, in June of 2000 they traveled together to Brazil, helping to build a small church in a rural area about 18 miles south of Brazilia, the capital of Brazil. In 1997, they visited Israel and Jordan, with a small tour group from Jackson. She is survived by her husband, Curtis; son, David Turner of Hillsdale; daughters, Catherine Glei of Coldwater and Heather Hakim of Orange City, Iowa; a sister, Margerie Shellberg, of Noblesville, Indiana; and 10 grandchildren. Martha will be sorely missed by her husband, her children, her sister, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church family and all the friends she accumulated over the years in Hillsdale, Jackson, and Rockford, Illinois. Friends who wish may record their experiences, and memories of Martha in a book of memories at her memorial celebration service 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church, 150 N. She is survived by her husband, Clyde DeVoe whom she married on Dec. 31, 1962; one daughter, Susan Taylor of Brooklyn, Mich.; one step-son, Clyde DeVoe, Jr. of Dexter; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Linda) Lincoln of Palacios, Texas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary A. Strain on April 30, 2010, and her beloved Bassett Hound, “Shadow.” Pat retired from the University of Michigan Hospital after 30 years of service where she worked as a patient transporter and she attended the Frontier United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and she was gifted at cooking and crocheting. She was also an avid outdoors person who enjoyed gardening and animals. He was a Gold Card member of the International Professional Rodeo Association and the Mid-States Rodeo Association, winning multiple events and All Around titles in the rough stock riding events. He also participated in the Michigan Team Penning Association and enjoyed trail riding with his friends. Ron dearly loved his children, grandchildren and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. She graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1945. She married James Pappas Sr., and this marriage ended in divorce. Most of her working life was involvement in retail. She retired from Kroger in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment. She was a dedicated mom, grandma, great-grandma and truly cherished time spent with her family. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Dick down the middle Siddall,  83, of Adrian passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at his home. He was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Jackson, Mich., to George H. and Kathleen (Crawford) Siddall. On May 7, 1945, he married Margaret A. Glasscock, in Jackson, Mich. She preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 2003. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Richard was an account representative with Johnson Controls until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #97, the Moose Club and the Elks Club. Richard was also a member of the Lenawee Country Club, where in 2009, at the age of 82, he made his ninth hole in one. He was also the Lenawee Country Club champion numerous times. He also obtained the title of the State of Michigan Senior Golf Champion. Richard is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Reid of Elkhart, Ind., and Mary (Paul) Turlukowski of Tipton; one brother, Dr. John D. (Lorann) Siddall of Traverse City, Mich; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard C. Siddall, and two sisters, Joan Webb and Catherine Bland. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. David Hudgins officiating. She was born Jan. 2, 1910, in South Bend, Ind., a daughter of the late Tony and Mary (Critolli) Kambol. Rose had resided most of her life in Sturgis, and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1932. In 1946, she married William DuClos. He died July 25, 1964. She retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment, and she was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. Rose is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Patricia Romine, Helena Pagels, Karl Fox Jr., Charles Darby, Jerry Darby and Thayma Darby, all of Sturgis, and Mike Darby of Richland; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Yvonne Marie; three sisters, Sophie Darby, Fammie Fox and Brundy Pagels; and a brother, Charles Kambol. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. A funeral Mass celebrating the life of Rose DuClos will begin at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Rev. Father Richard Fritz will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial donations would be appreciated to the Holy Angels Catholic Church, 402 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091. Rowland K. Perry Charlotte Age 71 passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010. Rowland was born Feb. 3, 1939 in Charlotte, the son of Lawrence and Genevieve (Hooper) Perry and was a lifelong Charlotte area resident. He was a Graduate of Charlotte High School and had served in the U. S. Army from 1962-64. He had been employed at the former A. E./Hoover Co. and later at the Bradford-White Co. from where he retired in 2001. He was a member of the Eaton County Buck Club and the Charlotte American Legion Post #42. Surviving are: his wife of 50 years, Marilyn (Davidson) Perry; 2 daughters, Vickie (Doug) Blattner of Charlotte and Amee (Darrin) King of Grand Ledge; 4 grandchildren, Tyler & Jessica Cwiek and Kyle and Evan King; Special grandsons, Chad & Cody Reichard; his brother, Neil (Lana) Perry of Charlotte and special cousins, Dean and Esther Shrontz. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. Interment will be in the West Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may go to the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte.

Walter was the firm foundation that his large extended family flourished from. He will be missed by all who were touched by his loving spirit. Walter is survived by his wife, Rita; daughter, Judy & Bruce Anderson of Longwood, Florida; three grandchildren, Shelly (Mike) Hensley, Scott Anderson and Steve Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Luke, Madeline, Emma, Braydon and Althea; sister, Merna Gillespie; stepson, Dan Wilcox; two sisters-in-law, Judy Ranville and Aneta Collard; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews, including Gerald Ranville and Peggy Klein, who lived with Walter for several years during their childhood. Mr. Leist was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; four sisters, Margaret, Wanda, Gerry and Edith; and two brothers, Everett and Russel.
