Billie Henning Billie Henning, age 79, passed away September 20, 2010. Billie Henning was a professor of speech and broadcasting at Macomb Community College, founder of the Michigan Transit Museum, author of several books on Detroit's Railroad History and was active with the Clinton Township and Port Sanilac historical societies. Beloved husband of Lois. Also survived by daughters, Sally (Patrick) McCuen and Julie (Steve) Gurzick; and grandchildren, Megan, Ruth and Matthew. Cloretta Rickman Battle Creek Departed this life on Monday, September 13, 2010. She was born in Bolivar County in Shelby, Mississippi on February 2, 1928. Cloretta was the sixth of the family of seven children born to the late Mrs. Nina Ann Perry and the Late Mr. Paul Jones Perry, Sr. Cloretta moved to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1949. Cloretta is known for her willingness to help others, she never meet a person that she did not like. Family was very important to her as she loved them dearly. Cloretta enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family. Cloretta is survived by her two daughters: Linda Porter-Todd and Constance Porter both of Battle Creek, Michigan; four grandchildren: Candice Jennis-Hart of Atlanta, Georgia, Vernod Jennis of San Antonio, Texas, Jennifer Clark Denson of Belleville, Michigan, Cloretta Porter-Daniels of Gainesville, Florida; six great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Cloretta is preceded in death by her daughter: Paulette; her two sisters: Maryetta Grays, and Marie Perry; her four brothers: Jonathan Perry, Paul Jones Perry, Jr., Oscar Perry, and Percy Perry. Although Cloretta has departed from this life, she will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Esther M. Heiman Benzonia Esther Mary Heiman, 97, of Benzonia, died September 22, 2010 at Homesteader Assisted Living. Esther M. Gressel was born on June 1, 1913 in Dowogiac, MI and lived in the Battle Creek Area for 33 years. In 1946, she married Royal F. Heiman in Battle Creek on September 14th. She lovingly raised his two children. Esther was employed by the Kellogg Company in the pay roll department and retired in 1968. In 1969, she and her husband Royal moved to the Lake Leelanau area and spent 19 summers there. During the winter months, they moved south to Big Pine Key, florida. After the death of her husband, she moved to Bradenton, Florida., in 1989. She enjoyed volunteering at Freedom Village in Bradenton and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bradenton. In her spare time Esther liked to garden. She also enjoyed visiting several of the U.S. National Parks and camping and fishing in Canada with her family. Surviving Esther are her two step-sons, Dr. Jerry (Barb)Heiman of Beulah, and Dr. Dennis (Heidi) Heiman of Palo Cedro, CA five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice. Interment will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. David Horace Peake Born December 26, 1941 to Nathan and Marion (Smith) Peake in Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from Portland High School in 1960 and studied at Ferris State College, (now Ferris State University). He spent three year in the Army his entire working life was spent at Peake Electric in Portland, where he worked for his father and then later purchased the business from him. He retired in 1995 due to ill health. David spent many years on stage and at the sound board for the Portland Civic Players and continued to be a supporter of the group after he was no longer to participate in theatre productions. On October 12, 1968 he was married to Ruth Ann (Brooks) at Portland United Methodist Church. They had three children, Chris, Cameron and Cree and six grandchildren, Aimee, Cole, Austin, Camille, Jaylyn and Shayne, two great-grandchildren DeAndre and Alexandria. He was a very loving, faithful, fun loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Also surviving, several cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, father and sister Kathleen. Services at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Eagle United Methodist Church, 14258 Michigan Ave, Eagle, MI.
