Bruce Robert Oldenburg, 69, of Sturgis, and formerly of Constantine, died Friday, April 9, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born March 5, 1941 in Constantine, a son of John H. and Verna M. (Gage) Oldenburg. He lived most of his life in Constantine, moving to Sturgis in April 1997. He was a farmer in the Constantine area until his move to Sturgis. He attended the Mottville Bible Church, was a member o the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Association, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and musical instruments. Surviving are three daughters, Deborah A. Mann of Three Rivers, Mrs. Tim (Susan R.) Easterday of White Pigeon and Donna Charon on Mendon; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two grandchildren. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Funeral services will be a 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Bender of Mottville Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow at Constantine Cemetery. Carolyn Frances Clemens Delta Township Age 80, our loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away April 7, 2010. Born August 17, 1929 in Lansing, MI. Carolyn was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary High School, and was a 1951 graduate of M.S.U. earning her Bachelors of Arts degree. She was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, and member of the Queen of Peace Circle, for over 40 years. She was an officer and trustee of the Matinee Musical, and was an officer of the Mary Magdalene League at St. Lawrence Hospital. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Genevieve Schneider, and her brother, Lawrence. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, LeRoy "Clem" Clemens; her four children, Christopher (Kelli) Clemens, Joseph (Kate) Clemens, Frances (Marty) Jones, and Jeanne (Jerry) Sutton; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Margaret Herrera, and Christine (James) Brown; brother, Bernard (Patricia) Schneider; and nieces, nephews, and friends. Daniel Robert Jones Lansing Born August 2, 1962 in Lansing, MI, went to be with his Lord and Savior April 3, 2010 at his home after a 2 year battle with lung cancer. Dan was a service tech for Denny's Auto Diagnosis for 28 years. He graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1980. Dan loved to golf, Spartan sports, western movies and just being in the great outdoors especially in the summertime. David Robert Bender, 54, of Centreville, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010, at his home. He was born July 2, 1955, in Sturgis, a son of William R. and Virginia (Dellinger) Bender. On Dec. 27, 1975, he married Joyce L. Waters in Jones. Dave was a Class A certified welder at E.L. Nickell in Constantine. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, racing RC cars and playing paintball. Surviving Dave are his mother, Virginia Bender; wife, Joyce Bender of Centreville; sons, James Bender of Centreville, and William Bender of Sturgis; sisters, Janet Bender, Cherie Conner and Melissa Morgan; brothers, Dennis Bender, Larry Carpenter, Scott Carpenter and Ladd Carpenter; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Evonne L. Johnson Lansing Age 70, passed away Thursday morning, April 8, at the Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing. Evonne was born September 26, 1939 in Lansing, the daughter of Evan and Charlotte Luno Hathaway. Her family were early settlers in Otisco Township where she grew up, graduating from Belding High School in 1957. She went on to college, graduating from Central Michigan University in 1961 with a degree in education. Evonne taught elementary school in the Lansing area school system both full time and as a substitute for several years. She was the librarian at Bath School and a library assistant for the Library of Michigan in Lansing for many years. Evonne was a member of the Capital City Old Car Club of Lansing and the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity - Alpha Upsilon Chapter. Evonne was married February 14, 1964 in Carson City to Jack Johnson and he survives along with her sister, Connie and Donald Skinner of Portland. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Delores in 1937. A memorial service celebrating Evonne's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 12 at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Glennard Paul Kenfield "Paul" Lansing Born January 27, 1927 in Mason the son of William O. & Effa M. (Sears) Kenfield, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 in Lansing at age 83. Paul served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from Niles High School in 1948, Andrews University in 1952 and received his Masters Degree in Physics from the University of Michigan in 1954. Pauls interest in physics included employment at Atomics International, Sandia Corp., Douglas Aircraft and NASA, where he worked on the Apollo space missions. He retired from the State of Michigan Dept. of Social Services in 1997, where he worked as a Data Systems Analyst. After retirement he volunteered at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Escort Services and delivered meals for the Tri-County Office on Aging-Meals on Wheels program. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: V. Loraine Kowatch and Marjorie Barnes, 2 brothers: Arthur and Nolan Kenfield. Louis was born March 9, 1922, in Florence Township, a son of Michael T. and Jennie (Weaver) Everett. He farmed in his youth and worked construction most of his adult life. Louis served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. On Nov. 22, 1947, he married Patricia Dimmick in Three Rivers. Louis and his wife enjoyed camping and traveled all around Michigan. He also enjoyed his ponies and antique tractor shows. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Pat Everett of Constantine; a daughter, Lynn (Gordon) Clevenger  of Centreville; two sons, James (Gayle) Everett of Three Rivers and Richard Everett of Constantine; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six step-great- grandchildren; a sister, Leona Glase of Elkhart, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Everett of Lawton; and many nieces and nephews. Marian Louise Sattler, 83, of Blissfield passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010, at her home. She was born on May 18, 1926, in Tecumseh, Mich., the daughter of Royal and Clemantine (McCallister) Haas. On Feb. 13, 1947, Marian was united in marriage to Donald Sattler. He survives. Marian devoted her life to her home and family. She was a member of the United Brethren Church in Blissfield and was a proud sponsor of the Lakota Indian children from St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D. In her spare time, Marian enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin in Harrison, Mich., where she actively fished and hunted. Marian was a collector of various stones and loved to  sit and watch the birds  whenever she could. Surviving is her husband, Donald Sattler of Blissfield; three children, Greg (Tanna) Sattler of Tecumseh, Laura (Dan) Sauter of Palmyra and Lezlie Whiteford of Blissfield; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dean Haas; sisters, Alta Mae Crist and Helen Bangeter; her daughter, Brenda DeLisle; and her son, Bradley Sattler. Following Marian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marian will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. Burial of her ashes will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery in Blissfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider making contributions to the Hospice of Lenawee. Marian Rose Hostetler, 82, of White Pigeon, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, after an extended illness. She was born July 6, 1927, in Elkhart, Ind., a daughter of Grover and Francis (Warble) Fleck. On Jan. 24, 1946, she married Ora Hostetler in Constantine. She was a lifelong homemaker, a school bus driver, worked in mail route delivery and was a Girl Scouts leader and den mother. She enjoyed her family, sewing, cooking, baking, flea markets and antiquing with her husband. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Gloria (Larry) Waltke of White Pigeon; a son, Melvin (Dorothy) Hostetler of White Pigeon; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Rovner of Skokie, Ill., and Elma Sellers of Sturgis; three brothers, Floyd Summey of White Pigeon, George Summey of Centreville and Jim Summey of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 16 sisters and brothers. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Marilyn J. Kyser Aug. 23, 1942 — April 2, 2010 Marilyn Jean Kyser, 67, of Somerset Township, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at her home. She was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Hillsdale, to Hugh and Margaret (Harbaugh) Hamblen. Marilyn graduated from Reading High School in 1961. She belonged to the Vandercook Lake Free Methodist Church and was active in their Ladies Bible Study. She was a former member of the Hidden Lake Gardens Club in Tipton, Mich. Marilyn’s hobbies included music, especially playing the piano, as well as traveling and appreciation for nature. Her greatest passion was their homestead farm. Survivors include her husband, Mike Kyser, whom she married Aug. 3, 1963; one daughter, Kelli (Jared) Seager, Reading; one son, Kevin (Jody) Kyser, Spring Lake; eight grandchildren, Kaci, Jarett, Kaitlin, and Kirstin Seager and Courtney, Cameron, Collin and Caden Kyser. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Chloe Kyser. Maybelle E. Paul, born to J. Leslie and Inice M. (Ping) Taylor in Blackwell, Okla. on April 29, 1910 passed away peacefully March 23, 2010 in Tucson, Ariz.  At a very early age, her parents relocated to Branch County, where she graduated from Quincy High School in 1928. In 1928, she married Leo Paul, who preceded her in death in 1982. In 1972, after 22 years of employment with the Coldwater Regional Center, she retired and was a member of SERA. She continued living at the farm where she lived for 50 plus years, working with her husband in their slaughter house business. She was an early member of the Branch County Extension Ladies, a 4-H leader for 20 years and taught many the joys of working with ceramics. Other organizations she enjoyed through her life were Friends of the Library and Farm Bureau and the Branch County 4-H Fair for more than 50 years. During retirement, she raised peacocks and flowers and truly enjoyed her family.  Traveling became a passion for her and she visited every state in the union, plus Mexico, Canada, Panama and the Caribbean. As busy as she kept, she stayed close to God and prided herself in reading the entire Bible each year.  She is survived by her children Jane Ann (Norman Dean) Brown of Bronson, Dennis (Betty) Paul of Tucson, Ariz., Nancy Armstrong of Tucson, Ariz. and Mitchel (Patricia) Paul of Kalamazoo, along with nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great  great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Taylor and Leslie Taylor, sister Vyrna Cox and two grandchildren. Memorials in her memory may be directed to the Branch County 4-H Fair. Paul Richard Rutan of Hillsdale went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Hillsdale County. He was born October 12, 1927 in Napoleon, Mich., the son of Milton and Greeta (Touse) Rutan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Barbara Rutan and two brothers, Louis and Bruce Rutan. He is survived by his wife, Helen F. (Goodman/Horton) Rutan; five children, LeeAnn (David) Reese of Jackson; Robert (Deborah) Rutan of Jackson; Sue (Nick) Serafin of Horton; Dan (Jane) Rutan of Hillsdale; and Jon (Theresa) Rutan of Hillsdale; 14 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 22 step-great- grandchildren; two brothers, Lee Earl (Doris) Rutan of Stockbridge; Milton (Kathy) Rutan of Columbus, Ind.; four sisters, Florence (Marshall) Johnson of Arizona; Gayle (George) Ruff of Colorado; Mary Lou Hammer of Clark Lake; and Alice (Harvey) Hill of Colorado Springs, Colo. and several nieces and nephews. He worked for many years as a builder and built many homes in the Jackson County and Lenawee County areas, and he also had a passion for farming. Riley Faith Rule Riley Faith Rule (Reid) passed peacefully in the arms of family on April 8, 2010. She was born on March 12, 2010 and spent four weeks at the University of Michigan hospital. Riley has seen the face of God and is now perfect in heaven. She is now an angel to us all! Riley is the daughter of Eric and Jenny Rule (Reid). She is survived by four siblings; Eric, Madeleine, Christian, and Lily. Riley is the 17th grandchild of Jay and Jerry Gilroy and Patrick Reid, and the 10th grandchild of Rick and Linda Rule. Riley gave us a lifetime of love during her short time on earth. Her life has brought so many of us closer to God and we rejoice knowing she is in the arms of the Father! Forever in HIS grip! The celebration of Riley's life will begin on Monday, April 12th with a visitation from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing. |

Scott A. Wolf Scott A. Wolf, age 51, April 7, 2010. Beloved son of Willie and the late Bernice (Penick). Loving brother of Paul R. and the late Mark W. He worked for 30 years as a technical representative for several copier companies. He was very knowledgeable about computers and was always willing to help others with computer problems. He was an all around helper to his neighbors and friends. His favorite sport was bowling, with two 300 games to his credit. He also enjoyed watching golf, football and sports car racing. Scott also enjoyed cooking and being with his family. He was cherished by many friends. His wish was to be cremated. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 17 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30003 Ryan Road, Warren. The family will receive guests from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. Generations Funeral & Cremation Services. |

Walter “Pete” Glenn, age 81, of Tecumseh passed away April 6, 2010. Mr. Glenn was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Raisin Township, Mich., the son of Charles and Eleanor (Bielatowicz) Glenn. On June 12, 1954, he married Sally Bale in Tipton, Mich. She survives. Pete served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retiree of the Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant. Pete was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh. Besides his wife, Sally, Pete is survived by three children, June (Jeffrey) Elwell of Onsted, Jane (Jeffrey) Shirk of Dansville, Mich., and Michael (Kelli) Glenn of Ypsilanti; sisters, Sophie Bailey of Tecumseh and Frances Holmes of Adrian; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Frank, Joseph, Verna, and two in infancy. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Revs. Alan Maki and Clayton Carn officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh. Willard W. Fox Eaton Rapids Age 90, passed away at his home on April 8, 2010. He was born April 1, 1920 in Charlotte, MI to Jesse and Beatrice (Lightner) Fox. He lived in Kalkaska, MI for many years where he met his bride of 68 years, Winifred Maxine Cross. Willard was a farmer, refrigeration/maintenance man for Miller Dairy Farms for 26 years and retired from Ingham Regional Medical Center in 1993 as a power plant operator. He enjoyed working side by side with his wife, farming, raising sheep and chickens and giving away and selling eggs and hay. The family would like to express their appreciation for the kind and loving support from McLaren Hospice, especially, Joan, Missy and Stephany. They would also like to thank Willard's care givers, Mark Whitaker and family, Steve Murray, Ralph Murray, Lynette Allen, Frank Johnson, Tiffany Rich and Jackie Johnson. Many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors will miss his witty sense of humor. William J. Klein Portland Age 86, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010. He was born at his farm house in Portland Township on September 4, 1923 the son of Harry and Agnes (Willems) Klein, Sr. Growing up in the Klein family Bill was taught at an early age the importance of farm ethics. He devoted his life to family and friends. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and lifetime usher. Bill was a lifetime member of the Portland Knights of Columbus Council #2168, the Farm Bureau, and WKAR TV. He loved going north to his cabin to hunt and fish. He also spent much time traveling the northern and southern states. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Klein; sister, Mary Ann Klein. Surviving are his brothers, Joseph H. (Patricia) Klein of Portland and Harry W. Klein, Jr. of Portland; 1 niece; 3 nephews; several great and great-great nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland with Rev. Larry King, Pastor presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
