Richmond, 77, of Lapeer (formerly of Waterford) passed away September 14, 2008. He was born June 8, 1931, in Pontiac, to the late Harold and Melinda Richmond. Don loyally served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Pontiac Motors at the age of 56, after 19 years of service. Don spent many years volunteering at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church soup kitchen. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but, in his later years, became highly fond of the game of golf. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering around the garage, as handymen sometimes do. He had a passion for gardening and loved tending to the strawberry patch. Waghorne Lapeer William "Bill" J. Waghorne, 92, of Lapeer (also of Arizona during the winter), passed away Friday (September 19, 2008). He was born March 3, 1916, in Flint, to James Reginald and Susan (Huck) Waghorne. He married Erna Margaret Nielsen on August 2, 1940 in Imlay City. Mr. Waghorne worked in the accounting department at the former Lapeer State Home, retiring after many years. He enjoyed farming most of his life, specifically Wayne's Poultry Farm farming eggs, for many years. Bill was an avid golfer, tennis player and skier. He also enjoyed baseball and many other sports. He was a lifetime Lapeer Lions Club member. He is survived by his children, William C. Stelcher, 91, of Bessemer, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, in Hurley.

Emerson 1911 - 2008 Wilma M. Emerson, 97, Pigeon, passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at her daughter's home in Owendale. She was born in Monroe on July 24, 1911, the daughter of the late William and Nellie (Strack) Drodt. On August 26, 1934 she was united in marriage to Karl V. Emerson in Ida. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1988. She was a 1931 graduate of Eastern Michigan University and taught elementary school in Hanover from 1931-1934. From 1950-1972, she taught kindergarten at Pigeon Elementary School. She was a faithful, active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. She is survived by her son, Thomas F. Emerson, Bad Axe; daughter, Joanne Rinnert, Owendale; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Emerson, Jr.; two sisters, Norma Weilnau and Irma Wilkins and two brothers, Russell Drodt and Oscar Drodt. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Michael T. Sawicki, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Grandlawn Cemetery. Memorials for Mrs. Emerson may be made to Salem United Methodist Church or Bay Shore Camp. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Arrangements were handled by the Meyersieck Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon.
