Adrian DuCharme Adrian DuCharme, age 93, of Shelby Township, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Brian's House, Davison. Adrian was born in Detroit, MI on August 21, 1916, son of the late Adrien and Eleanor (Martin) DuCharme. He married Marie Melvina Fogelsonger on May 24, 1939, and she preceded him in death on January 22, 2003. Adrian retired from Ford and he loved to play cards, square dance, travel and the casinos. Adrian is survived by his daughters, Bonnie M. (Kenneth) Ruby, Sandra E. White and Sherry S. (Gerald) Bryan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Deborah Lee Adams Berube, age 48, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, March 15, 2010, at her home with her friends and family by her side. She was born Aug. 25, 1961 in Hillsdale to Paul and Yvonne (Johnson) Adams, Yvonne survives in Hillsdale. Also surviving are her husband, Roland Berube; daughter, Jocelyn; sons, Kyle, Drew and Haiden; sisters, Cheryl Lee Sawyer, Monica (Rick) McClintic, Mary (Robert) Holland and Brenda (Tim) Grey; brothers, Douglas (Gail) Adams and David (Jenny) Adams; also surviving are 19 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul, in 2005. Deborah was dearly loved by many friends for her wonderful sense of humor and her fighting spirit during her long battle with cancer. She is an inspiration to all of us. Memorial services for Deborah will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. Thomas Butler and Deacon Aaron Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. She graduated from Allegan High School in 1952, she worked at the Allegan County treasurer’s office and Imperial Carving for several years. But her main job was her family, she was a proud mother and grandmother, and took a special interest in the ministry with her husband. Surviving are her husband, Pastor Don Miller; two children, Tammy and Joe Ehlert of Sturgis and Becky and Steve Burgess of Grosse Ile; four grandchildren, Sydney, Jacob, Drew and Katelynn; and many cousins. Dorothy Jean Schultz Dorothy Jean Schultz, age 88, of Chesterfield Township, formerly of Roseville, died peacefully on March 16, 2010. She was born in Nanticoke, Pa., on January 25, 1922. Dorothy was an avid member of her community. She worked with St. Jude Foundation, her church, and Meals on Wheels for several years. Dorothy was a driving force and the original supervisor of the Clinton Township Activity/Nutrition Center. Dorothy and her husband, Victor, loved to dance and also would spend time together cleaning and repairing books at the Roseville Public Library, she also managed the bookstore downstairs. In February 1999, Dorothy was featured as "Citizen of the Week" on WWJ-AM (950) for all of her community service. Dorothy was also politically active, she worked the polls, campaigned for David Bonior and during President Clinton's first term was the senior representative of Macomb County to attend the President Counsel on Aging, in Washington, D.C. to fight for senior rights. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Robert (Gloria) and Eric; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Victor E. Shultz of 63 years; and her granddaughter, Tracey Daniels. Visitation Thursday, 2-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. funeral service Friday, noon at Buehler Funeral Home, 26429 Gratiot, Roseville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, one brother, and his uncles, David and Ralph. Evelyn Rose "Tootsie" Wheeler, 69, of Midland, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at her home. She was born on Feb. 2, 1941, to Helen (Filcek) Kaminski and the late Stanley Kaminski of Midland. Known as "Tootsie" to her family, Evelyn attended grade school at St. Brigid and graduated from Midland High School in 1960. Prior to being married she worked at the Midland County Court House. She married the late Ralph Wheeler, of Gladwin, on May 29, 1965, at Blessed Sacrament Church. They resided in Midland and later Davison, where they raised their only son, Mark Christopher Wheeler. Evelyn worked at the Salvation Army in Flint for 16 years and retired shortly after her husband's death in 1991. She returned to the Midland area, residing at Wixom Lake in the home she had built with her husband. It was a home of much joy and the site of family gatherings on Christmas and summer holidays year after year.

Gerald “Jerry” Zorn, age 61, Milan Township died Monday, March 15, 2010, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor with his loving family by his side. He was born Aug. 22, 1948, in Monroe, Mich., to Marvin and Dorothy (Ott) Zorn. On Feb. 13, 1979, he married Patricia Wallace and she survives. Jerry worked at Ford Motor Co. in Saline for 40 years, retiring Jan. 1, 2007. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and an auxiliary member of the former Dundee Police Department.   Besides his wife, Patricia, he is survived by his mother, Dorothy Zorn of Dundee; his children, Doug Zorn of Ann Arbor, Christian Zorn, Lisa (Matt) Hemmie and Laura Schmidt, all of Milan; six grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, Alice (Richard) Straub of Dundee, Wilma Miller of Monroe, Ann (Rodney) Garst of Petersburg, Shirley Toburen of Monroe, Lyle (Judy) Zorn of Prestonsburg, Ky., Alan (Patti) Zorn of Adrian, Kevin (Kathleen) Zorn of Dundee, Doris (Scott) Tuller of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law, Larry Miller. Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan. Grace Vorce, 102, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, March 16, 2010 at Maple Lawn of Coldwater. She was born Aug. 16, 1907 in North Baltimore, Ohio to John E. and Bessie A. (Noblit) Morehouse. She married Emory J. Wilson and had one son Homer E. Wilson, who died at the age of 49. She later married Ernest R. Vorce on May 31, 1935 in LaGrange, Ind. Grace moved to Coldwater with her family at the age of four. She attended Lincoln School all but two years during WWI, when she attended school in Battle Creek. She graduated from Lincoln School in 1926. Grace was a homemaker who lived in Coldwater most of her life. She loved crocheting and raising flowers. She was a member of St Charles Catholic Church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Guild and the Altar Society. Grace is survived by grandsons James Wilson of Quincy, Ernest (Lisa) Wilson of Mt Pleasant and Michael (Kim) Wilson of Jonesville. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by both of her husbands, one son, eight sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater. She was born July 28, 1917, in Cable County, W.Va., the daughter of Jessie and Lizzie (Nelson) Staley. She married Charles Boothe on Feb. 13, 1942, in Huntington, W.Va., and he preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1992. Hila was a member of Mothers of World War II Veterans. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, sewing, gardening, attending the casino and was an avid bowler and bingo player. Surviving Hila are five children, Mary Cook of Inverness, Fla., JoAnn (Ted) Day of Pittsford, Mich., Charles (Linda) Boothe of Onsted, Mich., J.P. (Carol) Boothe of Adrian, Mich., and Belinda (John) Sawdey of North Adams, Mich.; three sisters, Garnet McComas of Hunington, W.Va., Lucinda (Jr.) Miller-Ball, of Grove City, Ohio, and Bessie Adkins of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grand­children, 14 great-great-grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, 14 stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Ab, Clyde, Delbert and Paul Staley; and two great-grandchildren, twins Aubrey and Audrey Williams. On June 26, 1937 he married June Pinney in Burr Oak. He had been employed by Purity Cylinder Gas in Kalamazoo for 16 years retiring in 1981. Prior to joining Purity Cylinder Gas he had worked at G.F. Business Equipment in Sturgis for 27 years. Mr. Bunnell was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II earning the rank of Fireman First Class. He was a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and he enjoyed motorcycles and working on automobiles. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, June Bunnell; two sons, Larry (Jena) Bunnell of Colon and Terry Bunnell of Portage; three grandchildren, Shannon Bunnell of Aspen, Colo., Todd Bunnell of Anchorage, Ala., and Troy (Sheri) Bunnell of Portage. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Judy Bunnell. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. She was born May 24, 1926, in Bradley, Ohio, a daughter to the late Steve and Julia (Horvath) Feher. On Jan. 21, 1946, in New Orleans, La., she married Carl S. Bolla. Margaret has been a resident of Sturgis for the past 46 years coming from the Chicago Heights area. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting. Surviving are her husband, Carl; three children, Vickie (Galen) Harman of Howe, Ind., Richard (Karmen) Bolla, and Karen Bolla, both of Sturgis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Steve Feher. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. She will be remembered for her dazzling smile, her zest for life and for her passion for theater. With over 59 years of theater, dance and production work throughout the state of Michigan, Margie's work touched every age group and every heart. Her early years were as a dance teacher/choreographer for Avon Players where she met Tim Lentz who became her lifetime friend and partner for the Rochester Community School's Summer Music Theater Program. Her work continued for the Troy Players, Bloomfield Players, Pontiac Theater Four and dinner theater at Botsford Inn and Pontiac-Bloomfield Sheridan. Margie was the Executive Director for the Northwest Macomb Pageant for ten years, where she helped Miss America hopefuls pursue their dreams. Most recently, Margie worked as the State Pageant Director for "Ms. Senior Michigan" and the National Director for the "Ms. Senior America," the Rochester Older Person's Commission "Heart of the Hills Players" and the "Best of……" shows for the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts. She will be remembered by countless performers, both young and old, who learned to believe in themselves because she believed in them. Marie L. Shook, age 102, of Leo, Ind., and a former longtime Sturgis resident and school teacher, passed away Friday afternoon, March 12, 2010, at the Cedars Nursing Home in Leo, Ind. She was born Jan. 31, 1908 in White Pigeon, a daughter to the late Cleveland and Alta (Weagley) Bixler. She had moved to Leo, Ind., in 2006 to be closer to family members. Prior to that Mrs. Shook had resided nearly her entire life in the Sturgis and White Pigeon area and was a graduate of White Pigeon High School with the class of 1926. Mrs. Shook continued her education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo where she received a bachelor’s degree of arts in education. On Dec. 15 1929, she married Paul E. Shook in LaGrange, Ind. He died March 15, 1982. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Ruth Circle. She was also a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Mrs. Shook was proud to have traveled to all 50 states. She is survived by two daughters, Doris Recht of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Lois Green of Polk City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Wright of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Carl Bixler and Earl Bixler; and three sisters, Esther Sechler, Florence Shaffer and Kathleen Tracey. The family will receive friends from noon -1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Marie Shook will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Deb Johnson will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. She married John Lane on March 10,1938 in Coldwater. He preceded her in death in 1983. Marie spent most of her life in Coldwater, moving to Sturgis in 1980 and she attended the New Beginnings Community Church in Centreville. Mrs. Lane was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker and also worked for the NAPA Auto Parts Stores in Bronson and Sturgis for 15 years. She also spent much time helping her husband on the family farm. Marie was a certified Red Cross First Aide instructor, having taught many of the local law enforcement and fire officials. She enjoyed crocheting gifts for others and flower gardening, maintaining many beautiful gardens. Marie had a generous heart for serving others, she adored her family and most enjoyed the time they all spent together especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie is survived by her sons Stanley Lane of Bronson and Lloyd (Terry Hirsch) Lane of Carrollton, Texas, daughter Nola McCreery of Centreville, brother Carl (Carol) Bogart of Macon, Ga., sisters Dorothy Robbins of Costa Mesa, Calif. and Marion (Floyd) Doty of Sarasota Fla., grandchildren Bryan Lane, Veneta (Jeff) Warren, Ellen (Doug) Balle, Allen (Michelle) McCreery, Kristine (Scott) Schneider and Julie (Mark) Thomas, great-grandchildren Terrence, Angela, Jennifer, Nathan, Zackaria, Bradley, Tyson, Lindsey, Lauren, Hannah, Zack, Luke, Emma, Jordan, Abigail, Lane and Adam and four great-great grandchildren, Cohen, Peyton, Braedyn and Keaton. She was born May 12, 1936, in Manistique, a daughter of Howard and Bessie (Brown) Casteel. Muriel is survived by her husband, the Rev. Ward Pierce of Mendon, whom she married in 1966; two daughters, Melody Mitchell of White Cloud, and Michelle Robrahn (Dan) of Middleville; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Harvey (Carolyn) Casteel of Manistique; sisters Evelyn Sanchez of Geneva Hills, Wis., and Vivian Casteel of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Casteel of Manistique; and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, George Dewey; and two brothers, Harold Casteel and Ivan Casteel. She was a loving wife and mother, and served faithfully with her husband, Ward, in the several churches to which they had been appointed. Muriel was a great and compassionate friend to all. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a collector of angels. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, where there will be an Eastern Star ceremony at 8 p.m. Monday. There will be two memorial services. Neoma was a member of the Somerset Congregational Church, the Women’s Fellowship, the Michigan Auctioneers Association, and Ladies Auxiliary; the American Shetland Pony Club, the American Horse Show Association and the Michigan Pony Club Hall of Fame. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. Neoma enjoyed her ponies and exhibiting them throughout the country. She was also an avid bowler. Surviving are one son, Wayne Buehrer of Poteet, Texas; one daughter, Wendy (Calvin) Hawes of Addison; grandsons, Mark (Sandi) Buehrer, Dustin (Megan) Buehrer; granddaughters, Marcie (Michael) Broad, Keya Buehrer, Kristin (Pete) Suminski, Marika (Josh) Hawes-Ruhrup, Kara (Dana) Hawes-Burd; 10 great-grandchildren; one stepsister, Velma Roe of Clayton; one nephew and several cousins. He was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Sturgis, a son of the late Grover and Norma (Bailey) Rickett. Dick was a lifelong resident of the Sturgis and Burr Oak area. On June 25, 1955, he married Wilma Deal in Quincy. Following 40 years of dedicated employment with Newport Business Forms in Sturgis, he retired in 1992. Dick was proud to have served his country with the U.S. Army from 1947-1953 earning the rank of sergeant. He was a past member Loyal Order of Moose #574 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to garage sales and auctions, playing cards and he loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wilma; a daughter, Carol (Tim) Charles of Sturgis; a son, Chuck (Cheryl) Rickett of White Pigeon; seven grandchildren, Carisa Seaman, Tonya (James) DeWitt, Tim (Christy) Charles, Corey (Racheal) Charles, Charlie (Carissa) Rickett, Michelle (Ron) Scarbery and Brenton Rickett; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Effie Woods and Joyce Miller, both of Sturgis; a brother, Theodore (Donna) Rickett of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Rickett; and four sisters, Donna Miller, Phyllis Helmer, Burnus Winkleblack and Dorothy Boggs. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel in Sturgis, where funeral services celebrating the life of Richard G. Rickett will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Nelson Brandymoore of the Coldwater Free Methodist Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis, where full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. On Nov. 12, 1953, she married Dale W. Harris. He died Jan. 30, 1991. She was last employed by Michigan Gas and Electric for eight years, retiring in 1955. She also worked at Atlands, Swinehart Butcher Shop, and the Dime Store and Roys, all in White Pigeon. She was a member of the White Pigeon First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are one son, Robert S. (Helen)Pendleton of Sturgis; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth C. Gadson; a son, Edward A. Pendleton; and several brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends may call from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon where services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Stanley Gordon Miller, age 91, of Tecumseh passed away peacefully March 15, 2010, with his family and friends around him at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. Stanley was born April 30, 1918, in Traverse City, Mich., the son of C. Vernon and Lora E. (Steele) Miller. On Oct. 30, 1941, he married Florence Hunt in Tecumseh. She survives. Stanley served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from the Tecumseh Products in 1982 after many years of service. Stanley was a life member and Past Master of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge #69 F & A. M. and also a life member and Past Patron of Tecumseh Chapter #51 Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed bowling and flying planes. He was well known by his CB handle as The Organ Grinder. He greeted everyone every morning as they were going to work for many years. He loved his CB friends and family. He had an extraordinary sense of humor and was always telling jokes or writing them to share with everyone. Besides his wife, Florence, Stanley is survived by his children,  Beverly (Marvin) Stotler of Tecumseh and Texas, Lucinda Hand of Tecumseh, Eldon (Mary) Miller of Rome Center and James (Karen) Miller of Tecumseh; sister, Betty Dillon; brothers, Robert and Russell Miller of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ken Miller; and sisters, Lila Underwood and Joyce Russell. At his request, cremation has taken place. A Masonic Memorial Service will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with military honors by  the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Virginia Rae Swarts, age 84, of Sturgis, passed away early Sunday morning, March 14, 2010, at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers. She was born March 31, 1925, in Mount Morris,  a daughter of the late Ray Cameron and Nora (Shannon) Todd. Virginia had resided in Sturgis since 1950, coming from Michigan State University in East Lansing,  where she received her bachelor’s degree in journalism. She and her husband were students living in married Quonset housing. On July 12, 1947, she married Dr. Robert J. Swarts, D.V.M., in Mount Morris. He died July 30, 2001. From 1965-2001 she along with her husband owned and operated Country Garden Veterinary Clinic in Sturgis. She had also for several years worked with the Sherman Township election board. Virginia was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon and elder, helped with funeral luncheons and was a member of the Presbyterian Women. For many years she volunteered her time with the American Red Cross blood bank and the Sturgis Band and Orchestra Parents Association. She enjoyed reading and acting and performed many times with the Sturgis Civic Players. Her many friends from the church and the Sturgis District Library will miss being able to hear her coming as she often times wore bells on her shoes. She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Swarts of Sturgis and Claudia (Robert) Davis of Greenville; two sons, R.C. Todd (Cynthia) Swarts of Atlanta and R. James Swarts of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren, Sorina J. Swarts-Kinsey, Jamey Swarts-Kinsey, Patrick Robert Swarts, Kaitlyn Margaret Swarts, Sidney Endre Swarts, Brianna Marie Davis and Nora Shannon Davis; a nephew, Timm Finfrock; and a cousin, Gwen Blair. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Vivian Timme and Lucille Finfrock. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Virginia R. Swarts will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Michael Wicks will officiate. He was born Sept. 10, 1924 in Camden Township to Jean Valjean and Julia (Coon) Parson. Warren retired from Aro Corporation in Bryan, Ohio, where he had worked in Quality Control for nearly 37 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed aboard the USS Ringness APD-100 and USS Kenton APA-122 in the liberation of the Philippines and at the invasion of Okinawa. He belonged to the American Legion 662, Edon Ohio, and was a 50-plus year member and Past Master of the Edon Masonic Lodge 474, F & AM. Survivors include his wife, Crystle (Rigelman) Parson, whom he married Dec. 27, 1974; two sons, Mark (Prapet) Parson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Michael Parson of Montpelier, Ohio; one stepson, David (Janice) Casella of Battle Creek; one stepdaughter, Mary (Jody) English of Battle Creek; one brother, Donald (Esther) Parson of Adrian; two grandchildren, Mark and Gary Parson; two step-grandsons, Jarrod and Brandon Casella. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Victor,  Rollin and Robert Parson. Graveside services will be held at noon Friday at West Reading Cemetery, with the Rev. Willis Jackson Jr., 82, of Mount Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Marshall Manor in Midland. He was born on Nov. 4, 1927, in Midland, the son of Willis Sr. and Elizabeth (Williams) Jackson. He married Josephine Davis on Jan. 25, 1954, in Mt. Pleasant.

Xavier Lawrence King, precious infant son of Matthew Summers and Amber King, passed away Tuesday, March16, 2010,at Toledo Hospital. Xavier was born in Toledo, Feb. 25, 2010. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mikaila and Lailei; maternal grandparents, Richard and Carol King of Tipton; maternal great-grandmother, Audrey King of Tipton; paternal grandparents Hector and Marlene “Cricket” Sarabia of Adrian; paternal great-grandparents, Raymond and Carolyn Summers, also of Adrian; and Rebecca Sarabia of Houston; aunt, Tara King of Tipton; uncles, Isiah Summers, Ezekial Sarabia and Xavier Sarabia, all of Adrian; and godmother, Erica Trout of Britton. He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Lawrence King and Boyden and Naomi Musser. The funeral service for baby Xavier will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Burdine officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
