Andrea L. Byarski 1988-2008 Andrea Lennae Byarski, 20, Suttons Bay, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born on June 24, 1988 in Bad Axe, daughter of Leonard and Lauri (Schmitt) Byarski. She was a 2006 graduate of Suttons Bay High School. Andrea loved the outdoors, playing the drums and her dog, Buda. She is survived by her parents, Leonard and Lauri Byarski, Suttons Bay; sisters, Amanda Byarski, Traverse City and Alissa (Jackson) Thomson, Alexandria, Va.; paternal grandmother, June Byarski, Bad Axe; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Ruthann Schmitt, Bad Axe and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Leonard Byarski Sr. Services were held on Friday, November 7, 2008 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Sheridan Corner. Fr. Rob Howe, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe, officiated. Burial took place in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Kaufman Funeral Home, Bad Axe.

Anthony L. Einheuser Lapeer Anthony L. Einheuser, age 79, of Lapeer, passed away Thursday, (November 6, 2008). He was born November 28, 1928 in Detroit to Anthony and Mary (O'Donnell) Einheuser. He married Mary C. Forrester in Detroit. Mr. Einheuser was proud to have served his country in the United States Marine Corp, just out of high school. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Detroit Fire Department after many years of service. Above all else, Anthony loved his family very much. Survived by son Michael John Bendlin, (Palm Harbor, Florida), grandson Kurt Michael Bendlin and granddaughter Karin Marie Bendlin, and son Gregory John Bendlin (Windermere, Florida) and his wife Susan and daughter Sally, sister Mary Seppeler and family, sister Beverly Ribar and family, mother Hazel Bendlin and father Arnold Bendlin. Attended Nathan Hale Grade School; Graduated DeVilbiss High School, and attended University of Toledo. Worked for General Motors from 1955 to 1995 with various assignments in Toledo, Cleveland and Detroit. Lifelong basketball and football fan, enjoying the Detroit Pistons as his adopted team. A long time Kiwanis International member of Sterling Heights High Noon Club. He enjoyed raising money for Detroit area charities. A Memorial Service will be held Friday November 14, 2008 1 p.m. at E.J. Mandziuk & Son Funeral Home, 3801 18 Mile Rd, Sterling Hts, MI 48314. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Grace Centers of Hope, Pontiac, Michigan, or the American Parkinson Disease Association.


 


 

BEVERLY P. JOLLEY JEDDO Beverly P. Jolley, age 69, of Jeddo, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at home with her family. She was born March 30, 1939 in Buel Township, daughter of the late Edgar and Belle (Murray) Straffon. She and Leonard D. Jolley were married November 1, 1958 in Buel Township. He died January 4, 2006. Beverly was an active member of the Bethel Missionary Church, Roseburg, and was very charitable with her time and efforts helping the less fortunate. She and her late husband were Fremont Twp. farmers. Surviving are her sons Jeffery of Detroit and Steven (Debbie) of Jeddo. Daughters Kimberly Lynn (Russell) Rush of Troy and Karen (Jay) Lussier of Berthoud, Colorado. Sisters Carol (Ed) Gill and Linda Hall all of Sandusky. Eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Janet Straffon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Croswell with Rev. She enjoyed outdoor activities and camping with her family. Brandi attended school at the Sanilac ISD and participated in the 4-H handicap horseback riding program for 14 years. Bernice Taylor-Alley, 79, of Oregon, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008. She was born Dec. 18, 1928 in Bexar County, Texas, to E.D. and Rose (Nehr) Raines. Bernice was a faithful servant to God throughout her entire life, serving Him as a longtime member of the Allen United Methodist Church and as the pastor of the Moscow Plains UMC for five years. Outside of her faithful service to the Lord, she enjoyed gardening, RVing and visiting local shut-ins.  Bernice is survived by her loving children, Randy (Kunhui) Robinstine, Roxanne (Randy) Cole, Mark (Debbie) Robinstine, and Rosanne (Teofil) Kalinowski; four brothers, two sisters, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Leland Lee Robinstine Jr. and husbands, Leland Lee Robinstine Sr., Eldred Taylor, and Harold Alley. Visitation for Bernice will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 2 - 8 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Home located at the corner of Wynn and Navarre. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9 - 10 a.m. at Unity United Methodist Church, 1910 E. Broadway, Northwood, where funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. with graveside services to follow at 3 p.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Reading. The family suggests memorials be made in Bernice's name to either the Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Home, or Unity United Methodist Church. Bernice was a light to her children, an inspiration of Christian service, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Carol Diane Noblit, 62, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Hillsdale Community Health Center. She was born in Pittsford on Dec. 8, 1945, to Roy and Naomi (Julian) Double. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Max, Keith, Don and Ron; and stepson, Randy Noblit of Florida. She graduated from Pittsford High School in 1964, Valedictorian of her class. She spent her entire life in Hillsdale County. Carol worked for Alsons (Masco) for many years in various executive positions. She was president of Cherokee Station Inc. in Jonesville for 12 years. Carol retired in March of 2007. Her passions in life were growing flowers, music, dancing, horses, touring large cities, spending time with family and her husband and life partner of 23 years, Gary. She was a wonderful caring person that loved life and laughter and will be so dearly missed by many close friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Gary Noblit; two sons, Scott (Sheri) Carpenter of Jonesville and Matthew (Stephanie) Carpenter of Camden; stepdaughters, Rhonda Mosby of Jonesville, Shawn Noblit of Columbus, Ga. and Michelle Kesselring of Rives Junction; several grandchildren, nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville with Pastor Terry Bobzien officiating. She was born April 20, 1934, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Albert and Cleo (Dunafin) Holtz. Caroline was a resident of the Sturgis area all of her life. She had been employed by the Brighton Mushroom Farm before her marriage to Nelson L. Wooster on Aug. 27, 1965, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. She enjoyed art, painting, photography, and was an avid reader. Surviving are: her husband, Nelson; three daughters, Jackie (Bill) Brown of Gaylord, Debra Bradley of Tallahasee, Fla., and Vicky (Michael) Howell of Goshen, Ind.; two sons, Alvin Wooster of Sturgis and Scott Wooster of Carlsbad, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Walter Wooster; three brothers, Dale Holtz, Charles Holtz, and Albert “AJ” Holtz Jr.; and a sister, Sharon Holtz. Clarence Geiger 1914-2008 Clarence Geiger, 94, a retired Sand Beach Township farmer, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his daughter's home, (Susann and Bernard Smaglinski) near Harbor Beach. He was born September 7, 1914 near Harbor Beach to the late Charles and Lena (Hessling) Geiger. On September 12, 1936 in St. Anthony's Church, Helena, Clarence and Emma Booms were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on April 10, 1996. Clarence was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the Men's Club, was an usher, was a member of the Jolly Neighbors Farm Bureau and a long time member of the Tip of the Thumb Square Dancers. He was also a former Cooper Rural School board member. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, deer hunting, playing cards and dancing. He is survived by his children, Susann (Bernard) Smaglinski, Harbor Beach, MaryAnn (Fred) Jahn, Port Hope, Charles (Judith) Geiger, Harbor Beach; 16 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Booms, Harbor Beach, Carolyn LeGault, Harbor Beach and Evelyn Kraft, Clinton Township; sister-in-law, Florence Booms, Bad Axe and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Geiger on April 28, 1973; three brothers, George (Selma) Geiger, Norman (Margaret) Geiger and Leo (Lucille) Geiger; a sister, Emma (Geiger) and Leland Gentner; and brother-in-laws, Leonard Booms, Raymond LeGault and Robert Kraft. Funeral mass was held on Monday, November 10, 2008 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. Fr. William Spencer officiated, with burial taking place in the church cemetery. He is the son of Loretta (Kamulski) Barber of Peck and the late Harold Barber. He was a life long farmer and a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau. He is survived by his three Children; Fred (Marcy) Barber of Georgia, Theresa (Tim) Himmer of Massachusetts and Roxanne (Steven) Maedel of Applegate. His mother, Loretta Barber of Peck, one brother; John (Jennifer) Barber of Peck, two sisters; Yvonne Barber of Dexter and Juanita (Joseph) Spallina of Saline. Dale R. Schrader Jr., age 62, of Centreville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 8th, 2008 at his home. Dale Jr. was born in Three Rivers on Sept. 26, 1946, a son of Dale R. and Gwynn (Walsh) Schrader Sr. He graduated from Centreville High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War with the Seabees. On July 1, 2000, he married Donna S. Hann in Three Rivers. Dale worked at Coachman Industries in Middlebury, Ind., for 22 years, retiring in 2008. He also worked for the family business, Schrader’s Friendly Service in Centreville. He was a member of the American Legion , Three Rivers, past member of Elks Lodge #1248, Three Rivers, and was an avid Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan. Dale also enjoyed working on small engines and wood working. She was born February 20, 1947 in Cadillac, MI, the daughter of Gordon and Alice (Schmidt) Frook. She was a 1965 graduate of Kenowa Hills High School. On March 21, 1969, she married Kenneth L. Brinks and he survives. She was a member of New Life Bible Baptist Church in Ypsilanti. Because of her faith and love in Jesus Christ, we know she is resting in His arms today. In addition to her husband, survivors include: her parents of Wayland, MI; one son, Douglas (Rebecca) Brinks of Ada, OK; one daughter, Michelle (Ken) Adams of Belleville; six grandchildren; one sister, Kathy (Dan) McRae of Plainwell, MI; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Timothy Frook. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at New Life Bible Baptist Church, 1175 S. Dena Vlieg Imlay City Dena Vlieg, age 94, of Imlay City, passed away Sunday (November 9, 2008) at her sisters home in Imlay City. She was born Dena Adrianna Yonker, November 12, 1913 in Kalamazoo to Otto and Jenny Yonker. She married Peter Vlieg on May 31, 1935 in Kalamazoo. Dena spent most of her life in the Imlay City community and was a member of Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by her sisters, Eleanor Wright of Kalamazoo and Barbara (Warner) Hoeksema of Imlay City; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter in 1986; her parents, Otto and Jenny Yonker; sisters, Fannie Corstange, Henretta Gernate and Wilma Watson. Donald C. Smith Jr., age 61, of Milan died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at his home with his loving family by his side after a long battle from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was born Dec. 15, 1946, in Adrian, to Donald Curtis and Alice (Babcock) Smith Sr. Don attended Petersburg-Summerfield High and Adrian College. He worked for GM in both the Tecumseh and Adrian plants for 24 years, retiring from Adrian in 1993. He also enjoyed working at the Top Shoppe, as a police officer, security officer, car salesman and cottage cheese maker. He was active in his community by school tutoring, a parade organizer and a Girl Scout and Boy Scout supporter. Don will be fondly remembered, however, for bringing joy to hundreds of Milan children as “Santa” in the Christmas holiday parade for the past 22 years. In addition to Santa his other passion was a love for antique cars, especially his 1925 Ford Model T. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Jo (O’Hare); three daughters, Stacie Lynn (Jim), Danielle Lynn and Nicole Lynn; aunt and uncle, Kathie and Basil Babcock; aunt Helen Babcock, aunt Helen Woerner, and a very loving extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon (Grof), and their daughter, Tracie Lynn, his parents and a brother, William. Donald Eugene Ray, age 83, of Sturgis, died Nov. 8, 2008, at his home following an extended illness. He was born west of Mendon to Leo and Beulah Mae (Hallam) Ray on Dec. 24, 1924.  He attended the Canada Corners Country School and graduated from Mendon High School in 1942.  Upon graduation, he joined the Navy where he spent the next four years.  After his military service, Don enrolled at the College of Pharmacy at Ferris State College, graduating in 1952 with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy.  On Oct. 19, 1957, he was married  to Wanda Mae Skibbe of Paw Paw. He worked at several clinic pharmacies, eventually accepting a pharmacy position at Borgess Hospital.  He attained the position of chief pharmacist for 13 years before moving to Sturgis and starting his own business, Don Ray’s Pharmacy.  He continued to operate the business for the next 19 years along with his wife, Wanda. Don was a lifetime member of the American Legion; the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) of Oshkosh, Wis.; the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum of Kalamazoo;  the Classic Antique Restorers (CAR) of Three Rivers; Michigan Pharmacist Association (MPA);  American Pharmacist Association (APHA); the Mendon Heritage Schoolhouse fundraising committee, and was inducted into the Mendon High School Hall of Fame in 2004. Don maintained his pharmacy license for 56 years and was current up to the time of his death.  In Don’s younger years, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, scuba diving, and golf.  Don was passionate about watching his four grandchildren’s sporting events which included soccer, baseball, wrestling, volleyball, football, swimming, diving, and track.  He was also a huge Mendon football fan and attended most games.  Don had a brilliant mind and a photographic memory.  There were few subjects Don couldn’t expound on.     Don is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 51 years, Wanda Ray;  two daughters, Kelli Ray-Fry and son-in-law, Douglas Fry, and Kimberly Baker and her husband, Bradley;  four grandchildren, Amanda and Hayley Baker and Samuel and William Fry, all of Sturgis;  one brother, Keith (Hazel) Ray of Mendon; and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon with Rev. Cannon Meredith Hunt, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Sturgis officiating.  A luncheon will follow services at St. John’s Episcopal Church in the Great Hall, and his family encourages everyone to attend and continue the fellowship and share memories of Don.  The family suggests memorials be directed to either the Mendon Heritage Schoolhouse Project, 148 Kirby Rd., Mendon, MI 49072; or the Sturgis Hospice, 1613 E. Fred was born to Fred Sr. and Mary Bosma on January 29, 1925 in Zeeland.  He attended Zeeland High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Anderson.  Fred was a lifelong member of Second Reformed Church.  Fred was life member of the Scottville Clown Band, a founding member of the PF Flyers Racing Pigeon Club, and a member of the Gilbert F. On Saturday morning November 8th, Karen passed away peacefully in her sleep, at home surrounded by family. Karen was born in Lansing on April 21st 1950. She grew up in Battle Creek where she graduated from Lakeview High School in 1968. At the age of 16, she met the love of her life Thomas Groves Jr. and they were married on March 6th 1970. Together, they have two loving children Jamie and Angela. Tom and Karen moved to Dearborn Heights in 1971, then to Northville in 1976. She dedicated the next many years to raising her two children. Karen had a beautiful voice and a passion for theater that led to her involvement with the Plymouth Theater Guild for over 10 years, serving as President for over 7 years. She also served as a member of the Player's Guild of Dearborn as both a performer and board member. She worked at Bill Knapp's Restaurant for many years sharing her warm smile with her customers. She also loved working at Foursight Creative Group in Plymouth from where she retired in 2004. Karen is survived by her husband Tom; son Jamie, his wife Erika and their son Joel Thomas; daughter Angie and fiancé John; brothers Mike (Debbie), Roger (Gail) and David Kevern; sister-in-heart Sharon Hepfinger and many nieces and nephews. Harriet was passionate about Genealogy and she loved to travel to Ireland. Harold Louis “Hal” Hocker, Jr., age 78, of Centreville, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at his home. He was born in Detroit on April 17, 1930, a son of the late Harold Louis and Alvina Elizabeth (Rathje) Hocker Sr. Hal graduated from Lakeshore High School, St. Claire Shores in 1948.  On  Dec. 9, 1950, Hal married Ruth Husk in Angola, Ind. He worked in sales and was a partner at Pentek Corp., Indianapolis, Ind., for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Hal also worked at Weyheauser from 1963-1968. Hal was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Centreville and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Surviving are: his wife, Ruth Hocker, Centreville; daughters, Sheryl (John) Furey of Constantine, Cynthia (Michael) Daskivich of San Antonio, Texas, Mary (Michael) Mingus of Sturgis and Carol (Kemp) Kotschevar of Centreville; son, Gary (Marsha) Hocker of Constantine; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Crystal Smous; sisters, Carmen Hardee and Marilyn Yates; and brother, Charles Hocker. Helen Dennis, 89, formerly of Morenci, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Harborside Healthcare in Defiance. She was born on Aug. 19, 1919, in Delta, Ohio, the daughter of Bernard and Melissa (Welch) Fisher. She married Henry Wilson in 1939, in Wauseon, Ohio. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1964.  Helen remarried on Aug. 1, 1969, to Robert Dennis. He also preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1984. Helen was a homemaker living in the Morenci area since 1950. She was a member of the Morenci American Legion Auxiliary Post #368 and attended the Adrian Senior Center. Survivors include four sons, Marvin (Diane) Wilson of Baldwin, Alan (Nancy) Wilson of Defiance, Ohio, Richard (Carol) Wilson of Warner Robins, Ga., and the Rev. Rod (Debra) Wilson of Adrian; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Besides her first husband, Henry Wilson, and second husband, Robert Dennis, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Shirley in 1944; two sisters, Letha Fisher and Velma Brink; a brother, Leslie Fisher; and stepfather, Austin Lawrence. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with the Rev. Rod Wilson and the Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Irwin Lester DeVries, 86, of Westlake, Ohio died Sunday afternoon, November 9, 2008 at St. John West Shore Hospital in Westlake, Ohio. Irwin was born May 6, 1922 in Hudsonville, Michigan, son of the late Gerrit and Cornelia (Rotman) DeVries. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army 16th Transportation Corp as a sergeant in North Africa and Italy. He married Margaret Alice Van Straten, daughter of Henry and Alice (Leighton) VanStraten in 1947 and together they had two sons. He worked at C&D Company of Grand Rapids, Beeline Fashions, Grand Rapids Packaging and Furniture City. He moved from Kentwood to Midland Michigan in 1999 and had recently relocated to Westlake, Ohio. He is survived by his wife Margaret; sons, Richard (Jill) DeVries of Farmington Hills, Michigan and Robert (Lisa) DeVries of Westlake, Ohio; six grandchildren, Lynne (Brian) Christiansen, Robert S. DeVries, David DeVries, Melissa DeVries, Delayne Rasmussen, Kyle Rasmussen; and one great-granddaughter, Adela Christensen.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Catherine, in 1992. Funeral services with military honors will take place at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, Midland, MI.  Pastor Michael De Ruyter of the Midland Reformed Church will officiate with burial to take place later in the Georgetown Cemetery near Hudsonville, Michigan. James Ruth passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at home in Sonoma, Calif. at the age of 76.  Born June 14, 1932, in Hillsdale, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, hiking, golfing and travel.  Jim was an artist at heart and enjoyed drawing and crafts. He took great satisfaction in the simple pleasures of life and was always willing to help a friend.  A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Jim served proudly for 23 years in England, Vietnam and several duty stations in the United States before retiring at Hamilton A.F.B. in Marin County, Calif.  Jim and his wife Pat lived in Novato, Calif. for 21 years before making their home in Sonoma where they have been residents since 1994. He was an active member of the St. Leo’s Men’s Club, SIRS Chapter #41 and the Marin Rod & Gun Club.  Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pat; his four children, David Ruth, Julia Freeman, Christine Miller, Tina Phelps; five stepchildren, Kathleen Heath, Eileen Williams, Maureen Wall, Mary Alderete and Francis Wall and all of their spouses; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Jim is also survived by his brother, Vernon Ruth and sister, Leona Helsel and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, 601 West Agua Caliente Road, Sonoma, Calif. 95476 followed by a reception in the Church Hall. He served with the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper. He was owner/operator of  McLaughlin Pastry’s for 52 years. He enjoyed golf and spending time with his family. She also worked at Swenk-Tuttle press for many years. In retirement, Jan was very active in the community. She volunteered at the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member, for the American Red Cross at blood drives, for Meals on Wheels and also at Bixby Medical Center. Family was very important to Jan and she will be missed by those surviving, including her son, James and his wife, Cathy, of Georgia; daughter, Judy McMordie and her husband, Bill, of Adrian; grandchildren, Sheila, Daryn, Jessica, Brent, Racine, Kevin, Lizbeth, Tucker, Cody, Denver and April; great-grandchildren, Katie, Morgan, Emily, Olivia, Jasper, Jazzmyn, Catie; and a great-great-grandson, Zander. In addition to her husband of more than 47 years, Gerald, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Bill Beckey. The service to celebrate the life of Jan will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Dawes officiating. Jill grew up showing horses and training them.  She started out wanting to go to nursing school but because of several riding accidents she was unable to pursue those wishes. She then turned her love for horses into a full-time career. For eight years she lived in Germany where she learned the art of riding dressage and became an instructor. She returned to the United States and taught advanced dressage riding in New York, Pennsylvania and Northern Illinois. Other interests in her life included art and music. Survivors include her mother, Janet Swope of Saline; father, H. Dean and (Ilene) McCann of Saline; two sisters, Joy (Ron) Ely of Saline and Judy (Patrick) Warner of Jonesville. Juanita married the love of her life, the late Roy G. Russell Sr., on Aug. 21, 1954, and they are now together again. She was the proud mother of four children, grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of four.  Juanita grew up in Adrian with her three sisters and one brother. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Onsted and an avid traveler. She and Roy were members of the Plum Nuts Camping Club. They had a second home in Mesa, Ariz., where they spent their winters with extended family and friends. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Roy G. Russell Sr.; parents, Artennis and Gladys Wotring; and her sisters, Claretta Seabolt, Patricia Wotring and Louise Balnites. She is survived by her brother, Leonard Wotring of Tecumseh; children Brenda (Russell) and Steve Wallace of Gig Harbor, Wash., Roy G. and Roxanne Russell Jr. of Jackson, Terrie (Russell) and Larry Hall of Britton and Gregory Russell of Onsted. Judith enjoyed going on Caribbean cruises and was an avid collector of dolls. She was known for her generosity, buying families who needed help, the supplies to make a holiday dinner and she was always making cookies for many. She enjoyed karaoke, crocheting and hunting for mushrooms. Kathy truly enjoyed spending time with her family. Leonard "Len" Irelan Metamora Leonard "Len" Irelan of Metamora for over 40 years (formerly of Oxford) passed away, Friday (November 7, 2008). He was born Jan 29, 1929 in Pontiac to Darrell J. and Helen (Darling) Irelan. He married Flora South on January 30, 1954 in Franklin, IN. Len proudly served the US Army during the Korean War. After the war, Len farmed for several years until 1965 when he took a job as a painter with Schreiber Manufacturing in Troy. Schreiber produced presses for the automobile manufacturing industry. Len loved his family dearly. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Opal E. Sakala, age 91, a lifetime resident of Dundee Township, who had helped run their family farm with her late husband Mike, died on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at 11:23 a.m. at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe following a short illness. She was born in Dundee Township on Dec. 31, 1916, to Lewis and Eda (Wittkopp) Hiser and married Michael Sakala June 24, 1939, at St. John Lutheran Church. He died Jan. 30, 1991. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society. She graduated from the Stowell School and also Dundee High School in 1935 and was a school secretary at Dundee Community Schools after graduation. She loved playing the organ, playing euchre and traveling and taking mystery trips with her close group of friends. She and her husband, Mike, were also members of the Monroe County Farm Bureau. She is survived by a son, Larry (Patriece) Sakala of Rockford;  two daughters, Saundra Brown of Dundee and Judy (Gordon) Greiman of Tecumseh; eight grandchildren, Sheree Brown-Lammers, Vicky (Mark) Winkler, Robert J. (Kim) Brown Jr., Michael E. Brown, Tara (Andrew) Green, Christopher (Christin) Greiman, Kathryn Sakala and Andrew Sakala; nine great-grandchildren, Bobby Brown, Tyler Brown, Cory Brown, Nathan Lammers, Lindsey Winkler, Fallon Winkler and Travis Winkler, Caitlin Greiman and Carter Greiman; two great-great-grandchildren, Caiden Brown and Emily Green. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two twin grandchildren, Kerre and Kelle, and a brother, Lloyd Hiser. She was born Aug. 31, 2005, in Adrian, Mich., to Leon Joseph and Dawn Rene (Griewahn) Fournier, Jr. Rene was a member of the Adrian Church of Christ. Rene was always smiling and laughing as she enjoyed playing outside, swinging on her swing set and riding her bike. She also liked arts and crafts, painting and coloring. These were all very special to her, but most of all she dearly loved playing with her brother, Carter, and her four playmate cousins, Avery, Zayden, Libbey and Jay. In addition to her parents and her brother she is survived by her grandparents, Kris and Cindy Griewahn of Addison, June and Leon Fournier of Clayton and Judy Ringman of Clayton; great-grandparents, Clarence Griewahn of Jasper and Terry and Donna Roberts of Ft. Worth, Texas, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her three great-grandmothers, Rosealie Griewahn, Loraine Fournier and Hester Briggs, and two great-grandfathers, Leon Fournier and Daniel Lincoln. Also active in the FFA, Russ held a state farmer degree, was a member of the alumni and was awarded the Star State Farmer award in 1968. BUTTS, Velma Johane - Age 78, of Fenton, died Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 7-9 p.m., and Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Velma was born April 15, 1930 in Fenton, where she had resided her entire life. She married G. Wayne Butts in Fenton October 1, 1949. She was a graduate of Fenton High School, past member of the Flint Banjo Club, a member of T.O.P.S., member of the Pioneer Association Fenton/ Mundy Twp., and a member of the Loose Senior Citizens. Surviving are: husband, G. Wayne; 3 children, Kathryn and Jack Unger of Fenton, Steven and Cheryl Butts of Swartz Creek, Nancy and Cecil Burton of Clarksville, PA; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Daisy Wolverton; grandson, Jason Butts; 4 brothers, Ralph, Art, Lloyd and Wilber Wolverton; 2 sisters, Lena Davis and Hazel Diamond. Winfred Lee Kennedy, 59, formerly of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Nov. 1, 2008 in Houston, Texas after a 10-month battle with cancer. Lee was a loving husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed the outdoors, a variety of sports, reading and spending time with friends. Lee was the proud founder of Dynamic Engineering, which has been in business for over 23 years. Surviving are: his wife, Patricia; three children, Matthew and wife Coran, Rebecca and husband Christian, and Karen; five grandchildren, Taylor and Blake Fittro, Alexandra, Sophia and Katelyn Kennedy; two brothers, Dale Kennedy and wife, Frances, and Leon Saunders and wife, Ann; a sister, Bonnie Kennedy; and mother, Alice Kennedy. Also surviving are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Staley of Burlington, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. A memorial service celebrating his life was held on Nov. 4 at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. Lee’s family will continue celebrating his life with his extended family and friends at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Burlington Assembly of God in Burlington, N.C. Michael Brown, brother-in-law, and Randy Wojciechowski, a close friend will officiate. The final memorial service for Lee will be held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2008, at Cafe Crossing in Middlebury, Ind. Norman Barnes, a close friend from England, will officiate. ZEMATIS FRANK 

Of Bloomfield Hills, passed away on November 9, 2008 at age 57, after fighting melanoma which was first discovered in his right eye. He was loved dearly by his wife of 30 years, Colleen (Steenberge) and his children Craig, Caitlin and Brian as well as Ryohei Iwai. His sister, Cindy Jaskunas (Larry) and their family, brother George Zematis (Carin) as well as in-laws Carl and Janet Steenberge and their entire family will remember him for his love, support, wisdom and laughter. Frank had the love and respect of many around the world, having traveled extensively while working for Ford and Chrysler/DaimlerChrysler where he had the opportunity to live with his family in Mexico, Brasil and Austria. Frank retired from Chrysler in September 2007. Friends are invited to visit with the family as they celebrate Frank's life at their home, 1869 W. Bend Dr, Bloomfield, MI 48302 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, November 13 and 14. A Mass of Remembrance will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Parish at 4300 Walnut Lake Rd, W. Bloomfield, MI 48325 on Saturday November 15, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. Mr. Zematis donated his body to medical research.
