ALEXANDER GALLIGAN DECKERVILLE Alexander Galligan, Age 80 of Deckerville, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. He was born on December 15, 1927 in Manhattan, New York. He is the son of the late Alexander and Mae (Drnek) Galligan. Alexander married Carol Lynn Poynor on September 13, 1953 in Traverse City, MI. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Sandusky where he served as an Elder. He started his teaching career at the Old Mission School in 1956 and continued his career as principal and then superintendent. In 1974 he came to Deckerville and he retired in 1989 from Fennville School where he was superintendent. He is survived by his wife, Carol Galligan, three children, Christine Galligan, of South Carolina, Alex (Cathy) Galligan, of Deckerville and Julie Davis, of Deckerville. Two grandchildren, Renae Blaine and Ryan Davis and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a Son-in-law, Steve Davis. Memorial Services were held at the Community Of Christ Church, Sandusky with Elder Ken Diem of Carsonville officiating. Marshall, Adam Shepherd, Michigan Adam Steven Marshall, age 21, of Shepherd, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at his home. Adam was born on Thursday, March 26, 1987 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Steven B. Marshall and Debra L. (Recker) Marshall. He grew up in Bay City, moving back to Mt. Pleasant about one year ago. He served in the U.S. Army from June 2007 until June 2008. Adam enjoyed all kinds of sports, lifting weights, was a movie buff, and enjoyed hanging around with his friends. Survivors include his parents, Steven of Shepherd, his mother, Debra of Shepherd; a sister: Lindsey Marshall of Mt. Pleasant; two grandmothers: Barbara Recker of Mesa, Arizona and Marvis Marshall of Shepherd; a brother-in-law: Geoff Goetz of Jacksonville, Florida; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Adam was preceded in death by his sister, Deneen Goetz, and his grandfathers, Robert Recker and Orrin Marshall. A service celebrating Adam's life will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Mark Behenna of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Alta J. Herman of Holiday, Fla., formerly of Clinton, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. She was 84 years old. Alta was born Oct. 18, 1924, to Myron “Pete” Dermyer and Gladys (Packard) Dermyer. She married Robert T. Herman on March 31, 1944. They shared 60 wonderful years together before his death on March 6, 2005. Alta was a member of the United Church of Christ. Alta is survived by two daughters, Priscilla (James) Hottenstein of Petersburg, Mich., and Barbara Werth of Holiday, Fla., both of whom are Clinton High School graduates; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, one sister and two brothers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother and three sisters. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and again on Friday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.  The Rev. Beatrice M. Siemen 1923-2008 Beatrice M. Siemen, 84, Harbor Beach, passed away Friday, November 14, 2008 at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. She was born on December 18, 1923 in Harbor Beach to the late Anthony and Mary (O'Neil) Pohl. Beatrice and Bernard Siemen were united in marriage on August 9, 1941 in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1991. Beatrice was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where she was a past president of the Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards, flowers, playing bingo, baking cookies, going to the casino and being with her family and especially her grandchildren. Carol Diane Noblit, 62, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Hillsdale Community Health Center. She was born in Pittsford on Dec. 8, 1945, to Roy and Naomi (Julian) Double. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Max, Keith, Don and Ron; and stepson, Randy Noblit of Florida. She graduated from Pittsford High School in 1964, Valedictorian of her class. She spent her entire life in Hillsdale County. Carol worked for Alsons (Masco) for many years in various executive positions. She was president of Cherokee Station Inc. in Jonesville for 12 years. Carol retired in March of 2007. Her passions in life were growing flowers, music, dancing, horses, touring large cities, spending time with family and her husband and life partner of 23 years, Gary. She was a wonderful caring person that loved life and laughter and will be so dearly missed by many close friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Gary Noblit; two sons, Scott (Sheri) Carpenter of Jonesville and Matthew (Stephanie) Carpenter of Camden; stepdaughters, Rhonda Mosby of Jonesville, Shawn Noblit of Columbus, Ga. and Michelle Kesselring of Rives Junction; several grandchildren, nephews and nieces also survive. Cassie Kopek 1916-2008 Cassie Kopek, 92, Caseville, died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon while under hospice care. Cassie was born April 13, 1916 in Detroit to the late Casimer and Bernice (Stankiewicz) Zaloga. She married Walter J. Kopek at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Detroit on July 4, 1936. Walter preceded her in death on July 4, 1982. She lived in Detroit until moving to Caseville in 1973. She was an active member of St. Roch Catholic Church, where she was on the Women's Society and was sacristan for many years. She was a member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary and Caseville Retirement Club. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and gardening. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Al) Gagnier, Warren; son Raymond (Terry), Warren; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Ed Zaloga and sister Bunny Zaloga. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter and son, Rev. Robert Kopek S.J. in 2003. Funeral mass was held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Corbett Eugene Humphries, age 72, departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at the Defiance Area Inpatient Care Center in Defiance, Ohio. Corbett was born March 1, 1936, in Sunflower, Miss., to Eddie Humphries II and Ethel Searcy Humphries. He was preceded in death by both parents and wife of 34 years, Mattie Humphries. Corbett and Mattie leave three sons, Christopher (Patricia) Humphries, Corbett Humphries, Jr. and James (Nicole) Mann. Corbett later married Felecidad Diaz Humphries who survives in Wauseon, Ohio. Also surviving are stepchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Brenda Ramirez, Mr. and Mrs. Melissa Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Chavez, Jorge Chavez, Jr., Celia Chavez and 15 grandchildren. Besides his loving wife, Felecidad, and children, he leaves to cherish his precious memory three brothers, Louis (Shirley) Humphries, Rickey (Billie) Humphries and Stanley (Annie) Humphries; three sisters, Eleanor Joiner, Mary (Carl) Morris and Betty (Joe) Gardner.  A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and close friends also survive. He attended St. Alexander Catholic Church in Farmington Hills and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Florida. He was a member of the Teamster Local. Daniel enjoyed gardening and sports, especially the Detroit Tigers. David was born on October 26, 1979 at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. He is the beloved son of Charles Willard Kroetsch and Donna Gertrude Leese. Age 48, of Anchorage Alaska. Loving daughter of Beatrice and the late Joseph Dillon, passed away on November 15th at the Mary Conrad Center in Anchorage. Kathy was born on 2/26/60 in Geneva, Switzerland. She settled in Alaska after being stationed there with the US Army. After discharge, she was employed over 18 years with the Post Office in Anchorage. Kathy was an accomplished athlete in high school, college and city league sports of basketball, softball, volleyball, track, swimming and later coached high school athletics. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her dogs. Kathy is survived by brothers Bryan, Tim (Cheryl), Paul ( JoDee), Jeffrey (Jill) and sisters Teri, Anne Andrews (Mark) and Jeanne and 18 nieces and nephews. Donald Eugene Teller, 79, of Jonesville, passed away Monday at his son’s home in Hanover.  He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Hillsdale, the son of Miles and Genesee (Rumsey)Teller.  Donald served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He drove a feed truck for United Feeds, Inc., Jonesville, and retired from Walker Manufacturing, Jackson. He will be remembered for his love of gardening, especially his asparagus crops, and providing lawncare for his family and friends.  On July 25, 1953, he married Ruth VanBuskirk and she preceded him in death in 2005. Survivors include one daughter Debra (Dan) Christian of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, one son Douglas (Deborah) Teller of Hanover, one sister June (Arnold) Hayward of Coldwater, one brother Robert (friend, Jean) Teller of Temple, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter (Denise Griffiths), and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield with Pastor Denise Downs officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset View Cemetery, Jonesville.  Visitation is scheduled Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County. |

Doris Kathryn Love, age 86, of Blissfield died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Provincial House. She was born in Adrian on March 5, 1922, to William and Golda (Watkins) Raymond. Doris married Irving LaFollette on March 8, 1937, and after his death she married Robert Love on Aug. 28, 1948. Robert preceded her in death in 1999. Doris worked at the Blissfield Canning Company and Bixby Medical Center for many years. She enjoyed baking pies, camping and crocheting slippers for all the kids. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three sisters and three brothers. Edris E. Murray, 87, of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. She was born July 21, 1921 in Montpelier, Ohio to Rex and Florence (Samm) Delcamp. She was married April 19, 1947 in Angola, Ind. to Dow Murray and he survives. Edris was the former owner of Parisian Beauty Salon in Hillsdale. She was a graduate of Pittsford High School in 1939, valedictorian of her class.  She attended Riggs Beauty School.  She was past president and member of the Lady Elks, member of Hillsdale Business and Professional Women, the Hillsdale Community Theater and member of the National Hair Dressers Association. Surviving besides her husband Dow of 61 years are three sons, Jeff (Shirley) Haskins of Emory, Texas, Jon (Diane) Murray of Bradenton, Fla. and Jerre Murray of Sarasota, Fla; daughter, Jill Langs of Hillsdale; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Delcamp of Maumee, Ohio and Stuart (Judy) Delcamp of Punta Gorda, Fla. Mr. Sorgenfrie was a graduate of Waldron High School and was employed by Trim Trends, Bryan, Ohio, as a quality supervisor. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970 and continued his service in the Army Reserves from 1981-1985. He was a member of the Bryan Eagles, Aerie #2233. Edward L. Sorgenfrie was born on Aug. 30, 1948, in Jackson, the son of Claude A. and Barbara M. (Marsh) Sorgenfrie. He married Johnna R. Nemire on Nov. 13, 2003, in Bryan, Ohio, and she survives. Evelyn F. Huff, age 90 years, of Hudson, passed away, Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Allegiance Health in Jackson. Evelyn was born on Aug. 15, 1918 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of George F. and Pearl C. (Williams) Waidelich. She married Leo A. Huff on November 2, 1940 in Grand Rapids. He survives. Leo and Evelyn moved to the Hillsdale County area in 1946 after Leo returned from the war. Evelyn was a former member of the Locust Corners Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hudson, an auxiliary member of Gideon’s International and the Friendship Club of Locust Corners. Evelyn enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. Surviving Evelyn are her husband of 68 years, Leo; two daughters, Judy (John) Garris of Quebec City, Quebec and Diane Cudney of Hudson; son, Wayne (Elaine) Huff of Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Purdy of Wyoming; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Mae Cutchall; parents; one sister; and two brothers. Gerald A. Himmel 1936-2008 Gerald A. Himmel, 72, Caseville, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at his home while under hospice care. Jerry was born October 10, 1936 in Chandler Township to the late John and Theresa (Gintner) Himmel. He grew up in the area and graduated from Pigeon High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957. After being discharged from the Navy, Jerry moved to Detroit and lived there from 1958 to 1988. He retired from the Detroit Police Department in 1988, after 25 years of service, many of them as a helicopter pilot. He moved to Caseville in 1988. Even after retiring, he worked part-time for the Caseville Police Department. He enjoyed boating, ham radio, and his home near Wildfowl Bay. He is survived by his son, Michael (Lona), Shelby Township; daughter, Stacy (Jerrold) Himmel Jacobson, Arcadia, Fla.; granddaughters, Lauren, Erika, Hannah Lee and sisters, Frances Richmond, Pigeon and Barbara (Patrick) Dell, Caseville. He was preceded in death by his two-year-old daughter, Michelle Lee in 1961 and brothers John, Duane and Robert. CRAFTS, Harold J. Age 91 Of Sturgis, MI Formerly of Kalamazoo Died November 15, 2008 at his home. Born January 10, 1917 in Watervliet to the late John B. and Nora M. (Polmanteer) Crafts. He had resided in Sturgis since 2001 coming from Kalamazoo where he had lived from 1923-2001. On July 8, 1941 he married Beverly J. Wheeler in Kalamazoo. Nearly all of Harold's working life was involved in the produce business. For many years he served as the Director of Produce Operations for the National Tea Company in Kalamazoo and Meijer's of Grand Rapids. Following his retirement Harold served as the manager of the Elks Country Club in Kalamazoo a position he held for eight years. For over 40 years Harold was an active member of the B.P.O.Elks #50 in Kalamazoo, serving for ten years on the Board of Elks Major Projects for special needs children. He also served as the Elks State Chairman of Major Projects for ten years. Harold was always willing to give of his time to others and for 27 years he was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Battle Creek. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 67 years, Beverly; one son, Daniel J. Harold J. Crafts, age 91, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away early Saturday morning, Nov. 15, 2008, at his home. He was born Jan. 10, 1917, in Watervliet, Mich., a son of the late John B. and Nora M. (Polmanteer) Crafts. He had resided in Sturgis since 2001, coming from Kalamazoo where he lived from 1923-2001. On July 8, 1941, he married Beverly J. Wheeler in Kalamazoo. Nearly all of Harold’s working life was involved in the produce business. For many years he served as director of Produce Operations for the National Tea Company in Kalamazoo and Meijer’s of Grand Rapids. Following his retirement Harold served as the manager of the Elks Country Club in Kalamazoo, a position he held for eight years. For over 40 years Harold was an active member of the B.P.O.Elks #50 in Kalamazoo, serving for 10 years on the Board of Elks Major Projects for special needs children. He also served as the Elks State Chairman of Major Projects for 10 years. Harold was always willing to give of his time to others and for 27 years he was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Battle Creek. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 67 years, Beverly; one son, Daniel J. (Linda) Crafts of Sturgis; a grandson, Matthew (Jennifer) Freeland of Portage; two great-grandchildren, Kaitrin Elise Funches and Joshua Daniel Freeland, both of Portage; a niece, Ellen (Tim) McKeever and a nephew, Steven Eakley.  Harold L. Frye, 91, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn.   Mr. Frye was a native of Sturgis, Mich., and had lived in Johnson City, Tenn., for the past several years.   He was a son of the late Bernice and Katherine Linseisen and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Cleon, Leon and Howard Frye and one sister, Leone Miller.   He was a graduate of Sturgis High School, Sturgis, Mich., and a member of the Religious Science Church. Mr. Frye was an actor and singer and was known by his stage name “Hal Frye.” He enjoyed singing and traveling and volunteered to sing at many functions.   He was a life member of the Ex-Prisoners of War, a member of the Blinded Veterans Association, the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a Charter member of the ICL Institute of Learning at East Tennessee State University. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.   Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jessie Dugger Frye; and nieces and nephews, Dixie Pittenger, Doug Frye, Debbie Stevens, Mary Ann Byler, Kathy Miller, Karen Sobeski, Garnetta Weigt and Juanita Miller.   A military graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday,  at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn.  Minister Bruce Shawver will officiate. Mr. Frye appreciated the care and courtesy shown him at Mountain Home Veteran’s Home and the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was born Jan. 13, 2008, in White Pigeon, a daughter of Wallace and Florence (Rudloff) Long. She had resided in White Pigeon, Sturgis and Centreville, Mich., and Intersession, Fla. She married Ira L. Hires who preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1990. Hazel was employed at Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 17 years, retiring on Dec. 31, 1984. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Pearl Merritt, Rose Long and Vera Studabaker; and two brothers, Earl and Elmer Long. Sontag on June 8, 1957 in Gagetown. Jack Delbert Garman, 78, of Manistee, Mich., and formerly of White Pigeon, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at West Shore Medical Center, Manistee after a short illness. He was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Elkhart, Ind., a son of John Earl Garman and Myrtle Goldie Martin, and graduated in 1949 from Elkhart High School. Jack resided for 43 years in Elkhart, 10 years in Shipshewana, Ind., five years in Oregon, 12 years in White Pigeon, and had lived in Manistee since 2000. On Oct. 12, 1973, he married Toni (Grant) Livingston in Elkhart, and they renewed their vows on Aug. 13, 1999, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon. A Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, he was employed in the mobile home industry, retiring in 1992. Then, he served as a Wal-Mart greeter from 1992-2000 in Sturgis and from 2000-2008 in Ludington. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of White Pigeon, Moose Lodge #1128 of Manistee and Vandalia Masonic Lodge #290, a former member of Scottish Rites of South Bend, Ind., a former Saladin Shriner, a life member of Cass County Shriners and life member of the DAV #88. Surviving are: his wife, Toni Garman of Manistee; son, Gary Lambdin of Manistee; three daughters, Vickie Jackson and Jacque Yoder of Elkhart, Ind., and Kelley (Ronald) Livingston-Masters of Frankfort, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dave (Hazel) Garman of  Tennessee and Vern (Jean) Garman of Elkhart; sister, Kate Thalheimer of Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews. James Ruth passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at home in Sonoma, Calif. at the age of 76.  Born June 14, 1932, in Hillsdale, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, hiking, golfing and travel.  Jim was an artist at heart and enjoyed drawing and crafts. He took great satisfaction in the simple pleasures of life and was always willing to help a friend.  A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Jim served proudly for 23 years in England, Vietnam and several duty stations in the United States before retiring at Hamilton A.F.B. in Marin County, Calif.  Jim and his wife Pat lived in Novato, Calif. for 21 years before making their home in Sonoma where they have been residents since 1994. He was an active member of the St. Leo’s Men’s Club, SIRS Chapter #41 and the Marin Rod & Gun Club.  Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pat; his four children, David Ruth, Julia Freeman, Christine Miller, Tina Phelps; five stepchildren, Kathleen Heath, Eileen Williams, Maureen Wall, Mary Alderete and Francis Wall and all of their spouses; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Jim is also survived by his brother, Vernon Ruth and sister, Leona Helsel and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, 601 West Agua Caliente Road, Sonoma, Calif. 95476 followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Interment will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Sacramento Valley V.A. National Cemetery at 5810 Midway Road, Dixon Calif. Born May 4, 1954, in Hillsdale, she was the daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Bartell) McCalla. Jean graduated from Jonesville High School in 1972 and had been employed at ConAgra Foods in Quincy. In her leisure time, Jean enjoyed flower gardening, camping, bicycling and walking on the beach. She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren, baking and decorating for the holidays. On Aug. 31, 2001, she married Jerry Kohler and he survives, along with two daughters, Shannon (Jimmie) VanDusen of Hillsdale, and Erica (Jeff Hite) Barker of Waldron; one son, Shaun (Missy) Barker of Osseo; one brother, Terry McCalla of Angola, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Taylor, Devin and Jadyn VanDusen, Damien, Seth and Zoey Barker and Kierstyn Barker and Uriah Hite; one nephew, Tim McCalla. She married Roger A. Snow on June 22, 1963, in Holland. Jean was a homemaker and worked for JC Penney, Weight Watchers and Heritage Cable Company. She was a member of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Elkhart, was treasurer for the Elkhart Symphony Auxiliary, served on the Unitarian Church Board, and the Care Committee for Braodway Christian Parish which helped feed the homeless. Jean also worked the voting polls for Osolo Precinct #39 for 18 years. She is survived by her husband, Roger A. Snow of Elkhart; two daughters, Laura (Dan) Watson of Bristol, IN, and Katherine (Mike) Swihart of Wheaton, IL; three grandchildren; two brothers, John Holmen and Robert (Barbara) Holmen. She married Dean Lawrence on November 22, 1950 in Niangua, MO. Mrs. Lawrence enjoyed playing cards, gambling and traveling. She also was a big fan of the Red Wings and Tigers. He was born August 6, 1989, in Southfield, Mich., to Dennis and Michelle (Major) Smith. He was a Graduate of Sand Creek High School, Class of 2007. Justin was an auto detailer with the West End Car Wash. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, having bonfires at home, riding his dirt bike, hunting and biking. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his brother, Jacob, his girlfriend, Tabby and his dog Shoney. Justin always walked into every room with a smile. In addition to his parents and his brother, Jacob, he is survived by his grandparents, Bernadette and Joseph Major of Adrian and Barbara Smith of Wayne, Mich.; and a great-grandmother, Rena Smith of Kentucky. Kathryn E. Slingerland, age 87, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at the Fairview Living Centre in Centreville. She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Clyde and Elizabeth (Miller) Jones. Kathryn was a resident of the Sturgis area most of her life. On May 20, 1950, in Sturgis, she married Allison “Al” Slingerland.  He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2000. She was a private executive secretary for Jack and Chuck Kirsch at the Kirsch Company for 31 years, retiring in 1981.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, and she enjoyed traveling all over the world. Surviving are: one son, Paul (Joanne) Roe III of Sturgis; granddaughter, Kathy (Thomas) Fean of South Bend, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Gregory, Tim, and Mary Fean of South Bend, Ind.; and a brother, Joseph Jones of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. The family will receive friends and relatives from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Kathryn L. Fuller, 83, of Coldwater, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Bronson with Pastor Terry Siler officiating. Kathryn was born Oct. 19, 1925 in Phillipsburg, Penn. to Phillip and Rosa (Winter) Dawson, Jr. She married William T. Fuller on June 24, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1985. Kathryn lived most of her life in New Baltimore, returning to Coldwater in 2003. She worked at the former Branch County Federal Savings and Loans and Door Products in Burr Oak, eventually retiring from the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Bronson and the Literacy Council in New Baltimore, where she had taught others how to read. Kathryn enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, and most of all, spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons William (Gloria) Fuller, Jr. of New Baltimore, Donald (Tina) Fuller of Fairview, Michael (Mary) Fuller of Elgin, Ill., Douglas Fuller of Forrestville, Calif., her daughters Cecelia (Dan) McCarty of Coldwater, Patricia (Mark) Bouer of Gurneville, Calif., Lisa Fuller of Coldwater, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. He was born January 1, 1939 to the late Robert & Agnes (Responded) Doyle, Sr. He and Deloris Hoffman were married May 19, 1973 in Croswell. Patrick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked at RPI and Donovan's for 50 years. He was a member of the Croswell Lions Club for more than 30 years. Surviving are his wife, Deloris. Son, Kevin of Marlette and a daughter Kelly (Randy) Lame of Holt. RAYMOND DUNSFORD MARLETTE Raymond Dunsford, age 98 passed away peacefully Friday, November 14, 2008 at Marlette Hospice Residence. He was born February 20, 1910 in Marlette, son of the late John and Minnie (Smith) Dunsford. Mr. Dunsford returned to Marlette in 2007 after residing in Nashville, Tennessee for 30 years. He graduated from Marlette High School in 1928 where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He married Eva Lambert on March 30, 1935 in Marlette. She preceded him in death April 13, 1976. Ray owned and operated Ray's Men's Wear in Marlette from 1950 until his retirement in 1976. After retiring he moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he married Ruth Smith on January 9, 1977. Ray was a member of the First Church of Nazarene, Nashville, Tennessee, Marlette First United Methodist Church and also a member of the Gideon's International. He is survived by his wife Ruth of Marlette; two sons Paul (Florence) Dunsford of Marlette and Gary (Jean) Dunsford of Mt. Juliet, TN; granddaughters Darlene (David) Stone of Mattawan and Laura (Mark) Smith of Manchester, TN; grandsons Jeffrey (Tammy) Dunsford of Marlette, Lon Dunsford of Marlette and David (Heather) Dunsford of Smyrna, TN; and ten great grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He also gave everyone nicknames and enjoyed going to the family cottage. He was also a leader on the Emergency Response Team at the Ford Motor Co. Robert VanOss, aged 83, of Holland, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dona Leisman VanOss.  He is survived by his children, Douglas and Evelyn   VanOss of Holland, Richard and Cheryl VanOss of Zeeland, Debra and Alex Rahgozar of Tampa, Florida, and William and Cathy VanOss of Sparta.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Julie and Ross Hunefeld, Jonathan VanOss, Robert VanOss, Katherine and Jeffery Welch, Sara Rahgozar, Michelle Rahgozar, Jessica      VanOss, and Wesley VanOss; as well as great-grandchild, Samuel Hunefeld.   Bob was well known in the West Michigan area as a gospel singer, having made two albums and singing solos at many churches, weddings, and funerals. He was also a member of the Stuart Noordyk Singers. Rose B. Volz 1920-2008 Rose B. Volz, 88, Sebewaing, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Northwood Meadows Assisted Living Facility in Cass City under hospice care following a two year illness. She was born June 1, 1920 near Ubly, daughter of the late John and Bertha (Rothe) Schneider. She was united in marriage to Harlon H. Volz on March 30, 1940 in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2000. Rose was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and especially liked to pass the time playing bingo. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for many years. She graduated from Waldron High School, Class of 1958, Riggs Beauty School in 1959 and was a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, was a Girl Scout leader and dearly loved her children and grandchildren. Vivi was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and immigrated to Chicago in 1959 with her husband, Henning, and their two children, Soren and Annette.  Vivi and Henning's third child, Lisbeth, was born in Grayslake, IL.  She received her United States citizenship in 1969. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henning Alexander Wolff in 1987; and a brother, Jorgen Moller, in 1997 of Copenhagen, Denmark. Surviving are her children, Soren and Susan Wolff of Holland, Annette Schulz of  Bath, MI, and Lisbeth and Craig Stangohr of Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Chad and Sarah Wolff, Derek and Rhiannon Wolff, Erika Wolff, Terrence and Stacie Schulz, Jeffrey and Marisa Schulz, and Christopher Schulz; great-grandchildren, Ryanne Wolff, Teghan Wolff, and Alex Schulz. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Waukegan, IL. Wayne Vollmers Fairgrove Wayne Vollmers age, 61, of Fairgrove, passed away Sunday (November, 16, 2008) at McLaren Regional Medical Center. He was born October 21, 1947 in Detroit to Robert John and Marion Frances Vollmers. Wayne was a 1966 graduate of Utica High School He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Ameritech (formerly Michigan Bell) after 30 years. He was a Past Commander at the Disco Old Settlers VFW Post #4659 in Utica, and he was a member of the Utica American Legion. William Neil Loop, age 71, of Sand Creek went to his Heavenly Home, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Toledo Hospital.  He was born March 13, 1937, in Morenci, Mich., to Henry W. and Gwendolyn I. (Fether) Loop. On Nov. 18, 1967, he married Sandra Cornell in Toledo, and she survives. William was a member of Bethany Assembly of God Church. He was a very loyal and avid Sand Creek Aggie Fan and devoted countless hours to the development and construction of the Sand Creek Athletic Facilities. He loved fishing and traveling, and he was an active outdoorsman. In addition to his wife, Sandra, he is survived by one son, Ryan Loop of Sand Creek; two daughters, Stacy Adams and her husband, Nathan, of Sand Creek and Sherae McMurphy and her husband, Edward, of Summerdale, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Jared, Jordan, Joshua, Faith, Jenna and Grace Adams; Jacob Loop and Tres, Madelyn and Henry McMurphy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Josiah Adams, and a granddog, Rider. Funeral services for William will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Richard Clay officiating. Burial will be in Sand Creek Cemetery.
