Andrea L. Byarski 1988-2008 Andrea Lennae Byarski, 20, Suttons Bay, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born on June 24, 1988 in Bad Axe, daughter of Leonard and Lauri (Schmitt) Byarski. She was a 2006 graduate of Suttons Bay High School. Andrea loved the outdoors, playing the drums and her dog, Buda. She is survived by her parents, Leonard and Lauri Byarski, Suttons Bay; sisters, Amanda Byarski, Traverse City and Alissa (Jackson) Thomson, Alexandria, Va.; paternal grandmother, June Byarski, Bad Axe; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Ruthann Schmitt, Bad Axe and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Leonard Byarski Sr. Services were held on Friday, November 7, 2008 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Sheridan Corner. Fr. Ardith Luella Moran Hoover, age 87, of Adrian, passed away, Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at her daughter’s home. She was born Nov. 7, 1921, in Adrian to Benjamin F. and Alta (Hough) Partridge.  She married Kenneth L. Hoover  in Wauseon, Ohio, on Sept. 10, 1938, and he preceded her in death on July 7, 1987. Ken and Ardith owned Dick’s Auto Parts on Rollin Highway, Hudson, Mich., from 1971 until 1990. Ardith moved to Hawaii in 1988 and stayed until she came back to Michigan this September. Ardith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Honolulu. She loved jigsaw puzzles, reading, traveling and sewing. Ardith is survived by two sons, Richard Hoover and his wife, Sandra, of Palmyra, and  Donald Hoover and his wife, Tracey, of Cookeville, Tenn.; one daughter, Lois Wilson and her husband, Charles, of Adrian; a sister-in-law, Mildred Moran; a brother-in-law, Edward Beavers; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, due in December; and her special friends, Lois Jones of Adrian, Pua, Shawn, Teddy Fabella and Richard and Melody Gregorio, all of Hawaii. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles “Tom” Hoover; a grandson, Stephen Hoover; three brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services for Ardith will be held on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Geoffrey Koglin officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. BEVERLY P. JOLLEY JEDDO Beverly P. Jolley, age 69, of Jeddo, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at home with her family. She was born March 30, 1939 in Buel Township, daughter of the late Edgar and Belle (Murray) Straffon. She and Leonard D. Jolley were married November 1, 1958 in Buel Township. He died January 4, 2006. Beverly was an active member of the Bethel Missionary Church, Roseburg, and was very charitable with her time and efforts helping the less fortunate. She and her late husband were Fremont Twp. farmers. Surviving are her sons Jeffery of Detroit and Steven (Debbie) of Jeddo. Daughters Kimberly Lynn (Russell) Rush of Troy and Karen (Jay) Lussier of Berthoud, Colorado. Sisters Carol (Ed) Gill and Linda Hall all of Sandusky. Eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Janet Straffon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Croswell with Rev. BRANDI LEA SHAW DECKER Brandi Lea Shaw, age 19, of Decker, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at her home in Decker, Michigan. She was born August 28, 1989 in Sandusky, MI. She is the daughter of Daniel and Cindy (Little) Shaw. Brandi was a very happy girl who enjoyed life. Brandi had a great sense of humor and loved to smile and laugh. She enjoyed outdoor activities and camping with her family. Brandi attended school at the Sanilac ISD and participated in the 4-H handicap horseback riding program for 14 years. Carol Diane Noblit, 62, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Hillsdale Community Health Center. She was born in Pittsford on Dec. 8, 1945, to Roy and Naomi (Julian) Double. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Max, Keith, Don and Ron; and stepson, Randy Noblit of Florida. She graduated from Pittsford High School in 1964, Valedictorian of her class. She spent her entire life in Hillsdale County. Carol worked for Alsons (Masco) for many years in various executive positions. She was president of Cherokee Station Inc. in Jonesville for 12 years. Carol retired in March of 2007. Her passions in life were growing flowers, music, dancing, horses, touring large cities, spending time with family and her husband and life partner of 23 years, Gary. She was a wonderful caring person that loved life and laughter and will be so dearly missed by many close friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Gary Noblit; two sons, Scott (Sheri) Carpenter of Jonesville and Matthew (Stephanie) Carpenter of Camden; stepdaughters, Rhonda Mosby of Jonesville, Shawn Noblit of Columbus, Ga. and Michelle Kesselring of Rives Junction; several grandchildren, nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville with Pastor Terry Bobzien officiating. Clarence Geiger 1914-2008 Clarence Geiger, 94, a retired Sand Beach Township farmer, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his daughter's home, (Susann and Bernard Smaglinski) near Harbor Beach. He was born September 7, 1914 near Harbor Beach to the late Charles and Lena (Hessling) Geiger. On September 12, 1936 in St. Anthony's Church, Helena, Clarence and Emma Booms were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on April 10, 1996. Clarence was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the Men's Club, was an usher, was a member of the Jolly Neighbors Farm Bureau and a long time member of the Tip of the Thumb Square Dancers. He was also a former Cooper Rural School board member. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, deer hunting, playing cards and dancing. He is survived by his children, Susann (Bernard) Smaglinski, Harbor Beach, MaryAnn (Fred) Jahn, Port Hope, Charles (Judith) Geiger, Harbor Beach; 16 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Booms, Harbor Beach, Carolyn LeGault, Harbor Beach and Evelyn Kraft, Clinton Township; sister-in-law, Florence Booms, Bad Axe and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Geiger on April 28, 1973; three brothers, George (Selma) Geiger, Norman (Margaret) Geiger and Leo (Lucille) Geiger; a sister, Emma (Geiger) and Leland Gentner; and brother-in-laws, Leonard Booms, Raymond LeGault and Robert Kraft. She is survived by her special caregiver, Virginia Krounse, who provided Cindy a quality of life for 20 years. Deborah Sue White, age 51, of Adrian died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Toledo Hospital. She was born Sept. 11, 1957, in Tecumseh to Donald and Helen (Ferguson) Escott. Deborah was a 1975 graduate of Tecumseh High School and on July 15, 1977, she married Craig White in Tecumseh and he survives. She was the co-owner of Service Master by the Border.  She loved family time and also enjoyed travel, scuba diving, motorcycling, scrapbooking, genealogy, crocheting and visiting lighthouses. She was a member of Crossroads Community Church and Life Group. Surviving Deborah, in addition to her husband, Craig, are her father and stepmother, Donald and Emma Escott of Tecumseh;, two daughters, Kristine (John) Wertz of Grand Rapids and Stefanie White and her fiancé David Overweg, also of Grand Rapids; a sister, Rhonda (John) Boudrie of Prudenville, Mich., and a grandson, Benjamin. Deborah was preceded in death by her mother, Helen, and her grandparents. The funeral service for Deborah will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian, with Pastor Doug Winters officiating. Dena Vlieg Imlay City Dena Vlieg, age 94, of Imlay City, passed away Sunday (November 9, 2008) at her sisters home in Imlay City. She was born Dena Adrianna Yonker, November 12, 1913 in Kalamazoo to Otto and Jenny Yonker. She married Peter Vlieg on May 31, 1935 in Kalamazoo. Dena spent most of her life in the Imlay City community and was a member of Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by her sisters, Eleanor Wright of Kalamazoo and Barbara (Warner) Hoeksema of Imlay City; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter in 1986; her parents, Otto and Jenny Yonker; sisters, Fannie Corstange, Henretta Gernate and Wilma Watson. Donald A. Ruth, 57, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 near Pensacola, Fla. as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident. He was born April 22, 1951 in Hillsdale to Vernon and Serena (Fish) Ruth. He was married April 1, 1972 to Susan Laser and she survives. Donald was a 1969 graduate of Pittsford High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1970 to 1972. He enjoyed woodworking, sports and music. Surviving besides his wife Susan, are his parents Vernon and Serena Ruth of Osseo; two sons Brent (Angel) Ruth and Aaron (Heidi) Ruth, both of Lakeland, Fla; a sister, Cathy (Howard) May of Richmond, Texas; two brothers Steven Ruth of Hillsdale, Vernon Paul (Dawn) Ruth of Osseo; and two grandchildren Brandon and Kelly. Memorial services for Donald A. Ruth will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the First Baptist Church in Hillsdale with Pastor James Olinger officiating. Interment will follow at Leonardson Cemetery in Pittsford. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until services at 2 p.m at the church. Donald Eugene Teller, 79, of Jonesville, passed away Monday at his son’s home in Hanover.  He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Hillsdale, the son of Miles and Genesee (Rumsey)Teller.  Donald served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He drove a feed truck for United Feeds, Inc., Jonesville, and retired from Walker Manufacturing, Jackson. He will be remembered for his love of gardening, especially his asparagus crops, and providing lawncare for his family and friends.  On July 25, 1953, he married Ruth VanBuskirk and she preceded him in death in 2005. Survivors include one daughter Debra (Dan) Christian of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, one son Douglas (Deborah) Teller of Hanover, one sister June (Arnold) Hayward of Coldwater, one brother Robert (friend, Jean) Teller of Temple, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter (Denise Griffiths), and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield with Pastor Denise Downs officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset View Cemetery, Jonesville.  Visitation is scheduled Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County. |

Dorothy May McKinley, age 91, of Constantine, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born in Wellsville, Ohio on May 6, 1917, the daughter of the late Harry “Rex” and Dora (Wolf) Hall. On Aug. 11, 1967, she married Lloyd “Mac” Joe McKinley in Elkton, MD. He preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1969. She was employed as a fixtures assembler at Keenes Ind./Syndicate for eight years employed from 1972 to 1980 and was a member of Porter Baptist Church. Surviving are her adopted family Marna and Dick Yeske, Constantine; Stacey Simmons and her children Mikki Marshall and Tina Wagner. Dorothy was preceded by her parents, husband, and brother, Charles Hall. According to her wishes there will be no services. Burial will be in the White Pigeon Township Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine.   |

Doug Barden, age 56, of Danbury, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas. Doug was born on Jan. 20, 1952, in Adrian, Mich., and was a resident of Danbury for two years. He was in the construction business and served in the United States Navy. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruby Barden. Douglas is survived by his daughter, Chelsey Lynn Barden; son, Quinton Lee Barden of Alvin, Texas; brother, Paul Barden; and numerous other relatives and friends. A visitation and memorial service took place Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas. At the Memorial we talked about the childhood days on the Laberdee Road family farm and at Garfield and Lincoln elementary schools. There were many pictures, newspaper clippings, and medals from Doug’s days on the 1969-70 Adrian Cross Country Team. He was proud to have been a member and grateful to Coach Hammerstein for his support. We also talked about his days with the Navy Seabees and his time in Guam. Edward L. Sorgenfrie, age 60, of Bryan, Ohio, died just before midnight on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Sorgenfrie was a graduate of Waldron High School and was employed by Trim Trends, Bryan, Ohio, as a quality supervisor. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970 and continued his service in the Army Reserves from 1981-1985. He was a member of the Bryan Eagles, Aerie #2233. Edward L. Sorgenfrie was born on Aug. 30, 1948, in Jackson, the son of Claude A. and Barbara M. (Marsh) Sorgenfrie. He married Johnna R. Nemire on Nov. 13, 2003, in Bryan, Ohio, and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Brenda Kay (Randy) Williams, of Bryan, Ohio, Christen A. (Scott) Wirth, of Sherwood, Ohio, and Marie L. (Josh Smith) Sorgenfrie, of Fayette, Ohio, one stepdaughter, Kayla M. Nemire, of Bryan, Ohio, seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, his mother in Waldron, one brother, Gerry Sorgenfire, of Napoleon, his grandmother, Eva Yeider, of Waldron, one stepsister, Sharon Hills, of Pittsford, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Evelyn F. Huff, age 90 years, of Hudson, passed away, Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Allegiance Health in Jackson. Evelyn was born on Aug. 15, 1918 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of George F. and Pearl C. (Williams) Waidelich. She married Leo A. Huff on November 2, 1940 in Grand Rapids. He survives. Leo and Evelyn moved to the Hillsdale County area in 1946 after Leo returned from the war. Evelyn was a former member of the Locust Corners Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hudson, an auxiliary member of Gideon’s International and the Friendship Club of Locust Corners. Evelyn enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. Surviving Evelyn are her husband of 68 years, Leo; two daughters, Judy (John) Garris of Quebec City, Quebec and Diane Cudney of Hudson; son, Wayne (Elaine) Huff of Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Purdy of Wyoming; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Mae Cutchall; parents; one sister; and two brothers. Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Hudson with Pastor Tom Ball officiating. Private interment will follow at Locust Corners Cemetery in Pittsford Township.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson and Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Prior to that, he was the Chairman of Neurology at Wayne State University and Harper Hospital . His vision and passion led to the creation of the Beaumont Neuroscience Center, a state of the art teaching and care facility. He was revered by patients and admired by colleagues. He was a published author and renowned lecturer and teacher. Dr Gilroy was 83 years old. He is survived by his wife Renee Terry Gilroy, his children Ian, Robin and Wendy (David) Clements, his grandchildren Allyson, Jonathon, Amanda, Alexis, Jourdan, Alaina, and John (Jac), his great granddaughter Taylor, and the mother of his children, Betty Gilroy. George William Fox, 65, of Arkansas, formerly of Adrian, Mich., passed away on Nov. 12, 2008, after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. He was born on April 3, 1943, in New Bedford, Mass., to the late Counsel and Mary Ann Fox. George worked in sales management for many years. He was an avid fan of the University of Michigan football team. He collected model trains and enjoyed playing golf. Blaker, 65, of Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at her home.  She was born Feb. 21, 1943 in Hillsdale to Ora and Merle (Fenstermaker) Carlisle.  She was married Dec. 30, 1961 to Ronald Blaker and he survives. Gloria was a 1961 graduate of Reading High School and was a member of the Honors Choir.  She attended Jackson Community College, was on the Dean's List for two years and was active in the JCC Tutoring program. Gloria attended Bankers Baptist Church. Besides her husband, Ronald, she is survived by her father, Ora Carlisle of Hillsdale; three daughters, Oralie (Gary) Amrhein and Toni (Robert) Ashton both of Jonesville and Donna Thompson of Hillsdale; an adopted son, Gary Estel of Jonesville; a brother, Clyde (Mary) Carlisle of Quincy; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Merle and one sister. Cremation has taken place.  There will be a memorial service at a later date. Harold Louis “Hal” Hocker, Jr., age 78, of Centreville, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at his home. He was born in Detroit on April 17, 1930, a son of the late Harold Louis and Alvina Elizabeth (Rathje) Hocker Sr. Hal graduated from Lakeshore High School, St. Claire Shores in 1948.  On  Dec. 9, 1950, Hal married Ruth Husk in Angola, Ind. He worked in sales and was a partner at Pentek Corp., Indianapolis, Ind., for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Hal also worked at Weyheauser from 1963-1968. Hal was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Centreville and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Surviving are: his wife, Ruth Hocker, Centreville; daughters, Sheryl (John) Furey of Constantine, Cynthia (Michael) Daskivich of San Antonio, Texas, Mary (Michael) Mingus of Sturgis and Carol (Kemp) Kotschevar of Centreville; son, Gary (Marsha) Hocker of Constantine; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Crystal Smous; sisters, Carmen Hardee and Marilyn Yates; and brother, Charles Hocker. Jacqueline K. “Jackie” Buholz, age 56, of Burr Oak, Mich., died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, 2008, at Sturgis Hospital following a short illness. James Ruth passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at home in Sonoma, Calif. at the age of 76.  Born June 14, 1932, in Hillsdale, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, hiking, golfing and travel.  Jim was an artist at heart and enjoyed drawing and crafts. He took great satisfaction in the simple pleasures of life and was always willing to help a friend.  A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Jim served proudly for 23 years in England, Vietnam and several duty stations in the United States before retiring at Hamilton A.F.B. in Marin County, Calif.  Jim and his wife Pat lived in Novato, Calif. for 21 years before making their home in Sonoma where they have been residents since 1994. He was an active member of the St. Leo’s Men’s Club, SIRS Chapter #41 and the Marin Rod & Gun Club.  Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pat; his four children, David Ruth, Julia Freeman, Christine Miller, Tina Phelps; five stepchildren, Kathleen Heath, Eileen Williams, Maureen Wall, Mary Alderete and Francis Wall and all of their spouses; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Jim is also survived by his brother, Vernon Ruth and sister, Leona Helsel and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, 601 West Agua Caliente Road, Sonoma, Calif. 95476 followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Jaymie had resided most of her life in the Sturgis and Three Rivers area with the exception of the eight years she and her family lived in Florida. She attended Sturgis and Centreville Public Schools and graduated from Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., with the class of 1989. Her last employment was as a waitress at Logan’s Road House in Fort Wayne, Ind. She had also worked at Haulmark Industries in Bristol, Ind., Dutch Housing in LaGrange, Ind., and the Savory Restaurant in Sturgis. Jean Ann Kohler, 54, of Quincy, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 at the University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor.  Born May 4, 1954 in Hillsdale, she was the daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Bartell) McCalla. Jean graduated from Jonesville High School in 1972 and had been employed at ConAgra Foods in Quincy. In her leisure time, Jean enjoyed flower gardening, camping, bicycling, and walking on the beach. She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren, baking, and decorating for the holidays. On Aug. 31, 2001, she married Jerry Kohler and he survives, along with daughters Shannon (Jimmie) VanDusen of Hillsdale and Erica (Jeff Hite) Barker of Waldron, son Shaun (Missy) Barker of Osseo, brother Terry McCalla of Angola, Ind., grandchildren Zachary, Taylor, Devin and Jadyn VanDusen, Damien, Seth and Zoey Barker and Kierstyn Barker and Uriah Hite and nephew Tim McCalla. Her parents and one brother, Steven McCalla, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with Pastor Mark Case officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy. Visitation is scheduled Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. She married Dean Lawrence on November 22, 1950 in Niangua, MO. Mrs. Lawrence enjoyed playing cards, gambling and traveling. She also was a big fan of the Red Wings and Tigers. He was born April 17, 1933 in Columbiaville to James and Beatrice (MacNeven) LeValley, Sr. He married Ila Mae Walker on June 25, 1955 in Davison. Joan Chesser, age 68, of Manitou Beach passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Jackson Medical Care Facility in Jackson. She was born on Dec. 19, 1939, in Detroit, the daughter of Elmus and Ruby (Jackson) Hutchins. Joan married Billy Chesser on May 23, 1958, in Detroit. He survives. Joan and her family moved to the Onsted area in the summer of 1973. She owned and operated The Village Restaurant and Chesser’s Greenhouse. Joan enjoyed spending winters in Florida and taking care of her family.  She truly cherished her children and grandchildren. Joan Roberts Lapeer Joan Roberts, age 87, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, passed away Sunday (November 9, 2008). She was born August 21, 1921 in Lapeer to Harry and Nina (Smith) Weston. She married Bryan J. Roberts, Jr. on August 14, 1950 in Lapeer. Joan was a 1939 graduate of Lapeer High School. She earned her RN Certificate after attending 3 years at the Hurley Hospital School of Nursing. Joan served her country proudly in the US Army during WWII. After the war, Joan worked over 35 years at Lapeer County General Hospital where she held various positions, including the Director of Staff Development. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, worked as a hospital volunteer following retirement and enjoyed doing needlework. She took great pleasure visiting and caring for her grandchildren and shared a strong comradery with her five sisters. Katherine E. Bainbridge, age 53, of 58335 County Line Road, Three Rivers, Mich., passed away on Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, 2008, at Three Rivers Health following a long illness. She was born Sept. 4, 1955, at New Baltimore, Mich., a daughter of Thomas N. and Katherine M. (Koski) Henning. On July 7, 1973, in Three Rivers she married Tracy V. Bainbridge who survives. A resident of Three Rivers most of her life, she was co-owner of Commercial Painters for 20 years. She is a former member of the Quarterhorse Association and enjoyed horseback riding, camping, canoeing and gardening. Kathryn Mae “Kay” Blodgett, age 87, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born July 23, 1921, in Butler, Ind., a daughter of the late Carl W. and Clara K. (Kramer) Nimmons. Kay had resided in Sturgis since 1947, coming from Butler. On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Richard D. Blodgett in Butler, Ind. He died March 13, 2004. She had been employed by Higley Printing Company in Butler, Ind., Travelers Insurance Company in South Bend, Ind., and had also worked part time at Sturgis Automotive Supply Company in Sturgis, and she was a homemaker. Kay was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and a very active longtime member of Pythian Sisters Pocahontas Temple #121 where she was very involved in the Bingo Games. Kay had attended Manchester College in Manchester, Ind. She loved sewing, knitting, crocheting and playing bridge. Surviving are: two sons, Thomas Duane (Joanne) Blodgett of Jackson and Dennis Alan (Sandra) Blodgett of Sturgis; two grandchildren, Benjamin Duane Blodgett of Chicago and Jana Blodgett of Sturgis. Preceding her in death were her parents and a daughter, Cheryl Kay Blodgett . In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Kenneth Ian Payne, 71, of Deerfield passed away on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at his home. Kenneth was born on Sept. 21, 1937, in Monroe, Mich., the son of Rufus Paris and Zola Mae (Baker) Payne. On Dec. 26, 1986, Kenneth married Donna Christine (Standifer) Van Dyke. She survives. Kenneth graduated from Monroe High School in 1956 and later went to work in skilled trades as a supervisor for GM Powertrain in Toledo, Ohio, for 35 years, retiring on March 1, 1999. He was an NRA life member, a member of the Free Masons of Michigan Monroe Lodge #27, the Monroe Valley Gun Club Association and the Moose Lodge in Sylvania, Ohio. Surviving is his wife, Donna C. Payne of Deerfield; six children, Kenneth R. Payne of Monroe, Martin S. Payne of Monroe, Jane M. Payne of St. Cloud, Fla., Michael C. Wise of Deerfield, Christopher R. Van Dyke of Deerfield and Melissa J. Wallace of Deerfield; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, “Doc.”  Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Zola Payne. L. Charline Harsh, 72, of Kokomo, Ind., went to be with the Lord at 1:02 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Howard Regional Health System Hospital in Kokomo after an extended illness. Mrs. Harsh was born March 23, 1936, in Grandbury, Texas. She was the daughter of Freda P. (Mizell) Knott and Charley N. Knott. On Sept. 3, 1955, in Carlsbad, N.M., Charline married James L. Harsh and he survives. Mrs. Harsh was a homemaker, a devoted member of Center Road Church of Christ and a member of the Golden Agers.  Charline loved her family dearly and enjoyed helping others. She also enjoyed her pets, crocheting and bowling. Survivors include one daughter, Freda A. Felton, and her husband, Aaron, of Junction City, Kan.; one son, Gary L. Harsh of Kokomo; two sisters, Janeice Johann of Carlsbad, N.M., and Rita Williams and her husband, Bill, of New Braunfels, Texas; and one brother, Floyd Knott of Albuquerque, N.M. She is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, Stan and Mary Harsh of Kokomo, Ruby and Harold Crowell of Polk City, Fla., and Dan and Carolyn Harsh of Kokomo. Lavaine Charles “Charley” Peck, 77, of Adrian, Mich., and Lakeland, Fla., died Nov. 5, 2008, at his Florida home. He was born Dec. 27, 1930, to Wesley and Lynwood Peck in Coldwater, Mich. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1948. He was employed at American Chain and Cable in Adrian for many years. He later worked at the Lenawee Country Club for 10 years as a groundskeeper. In recent years he enjoyed attending and working at the Detroit Tigers summer training camps in Lakeland, Fla. He was also a member of the Adrian Loyal Order of Moose #34. He was a lifelong lover of many sports and played softball, bowled and golfed in many local leagues. He is survived by a daughter, Debra (David Howard) Blohm of Adrian; three grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He had been employed in the auto industry and had also worked in the curb and gutter business. He was born Jan 29, 1929 in Pontiac to Darrell J. and Helen (Darling) Irelan. He married Flora South on January 30, 1954 in Franklin, IN. Len proudly served the US Army during the Korean War. After the war, Len farmed for several years until 1965 when he took a job as a painter with Schreiber Manufacturing in Troy. Schreiber produced presses for the automobile manufacturing industry. Len loved his family dearly. Lou Wanda (Guza) Armstead, 56, of Sheridan Township, died Friday Aug. 29, 2008 in Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe., She was born Feb. 21, 1952 in Cass City, daughter of William and Wanda (Billot) Kipp., She married Leon F. Guza in 1970 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Parisville. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1999., She is a graduate of Sandusky High School. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. She enjoyed cats, crafts, gardening, needle work, and visiting with family and friends., Lou Wanda is survived by two daughters, Jane Ann (David) Sadro of Ubly, and Theresa (Dan) Hill of Bad Axe; two sons, Eugene Guza of Bad Axe, and Leon Guza Jr. and Karan of Bad Axe; and nine grandchildren, Justin and Daniel Sadro, Sarah and Kelsey Hill, Sloan, Kelsie and Darian Gross, and Rayne and Sommer Guza. Lou Wanda also is survived by her parents, William and Wanda Kipp of Snover; one brother, Joseph (Sandy) Kipp of Marlette; and one sister, Betty (Dennis) Mausolf-Scharrer of Ruth., Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 3, 2008 in the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, with the Rev. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Michael J. Camburn, 37, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly Saturday, November 15, 2008. Mike was born May 5, 1971 in Lansing, Michigan the son of James and Eleanor (Boluk) Camburn. He was a graduate of St. Johns High School, Class of 1989 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry from Hope College in 1994. Mike was currently employed at Emergent Bio-Solutions in Lansing.  Mike married Terri L. Tigelaar on August 15, 1998 and their wonderful daughter Zoe was born May 5, 2006. Mike had a great love of God, his wife Terri and their daughter Zoe. He enjoyed spending every spare moment playing with his daughter. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, computers, flying kites and attending kite festivals. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed going on biking trips with his wife and father. He enjoyed solving various mathematical problems with his father and he was an active member at Lowe United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife Terri; daughter Zoe; parents, James and Eleanor Camburn of St. Johns; parents-in-law, Merle and Gertrude Tigelaar of Hudsonville, MI; sisters, Sara Camburn of DeWitt and Jenny Camburn of Dimondale; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lori (David) Besteman and Vicky (Alvin) Kollar all of Hudsonville and Dean (Suzanne) Tigelaar of Cleveland, OH. Sheila is survived by her husband Dave, a retired deputy fire chief of the Detroit Fire Department and their son Andrew, her mother Beatrice, her adult children, Jeffrey Potts, Matthew Potts, Jennifer Venis (Mark), Carrie Gates, Kristine (John) Kline and David (Judy) Pegg. Sheila is also survived by five siblings, Colleen (Jim) Kozma, Patricia (Larry) Carey-Gilbert, Edward A. (Diane) Carey Jr., Shannon (Edward) Bast, and Mary Lou (William) Kalb. She was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren. Sheila is also survived by her mother and father-in-law Mary and Victor Pegg. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Revel Montgomery, 86, of Quincy, passed away Monday,  Nov. 3, 2008 at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. She was born Sept. 17, 1922 in Breathit County, Ky., to Harlan and Bessie (Roark) Back. Revel was a homemaker and loved to cook for her large family. She also enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and caring for her dog “Lucy.” On Feb. 16, 1940 she married Wardie Montgomery and he preceded her in death in 1999. Mr. Mitchell retired in 1981 from General Motors, as a Machine Repairman. He farmed most all of his life and truly enjoyed fishing and hunting. SPARTA, Tenn. — Mr. James Louis Wurm, 58, of Sparta, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at his residence.Mr. Wurm was born in Traverse City on Aug. 13, 1950, the son of the late Ambrose and Emma Seegmiller Wurm.He was proud to be a retired veteran of the United States Navy.He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Wurm of Sparta; children, Jonathan Wurm of Cookeville, Tenn., and Leah (Josh) Neal of Sparta; a grandson, Alexander Neal of Sparta; two brothers, Cleo (Veda) Wurm of Traverse City and Larry (Rosemary) Wurm of Grand Haven; a sister, Connie (Larry) Meade of Kingsley; an uncle, Ben Wurm of Traverse City. Other loving family members include his in-laws, Willard and Betty Forsythe; sister-in-law, Kim (James) Creasy; and brother-in-law, Marty (Donna) Forsythe; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.He now belongs to the ages.The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 2 to 9 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta, Tenn.Funeral services for Mr. Wurm will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery.Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
