Bertha Wohlfrom Lapeer Bertha Wohlfrom, age 101, of Lapeer (over 40 years in Imlay City prior to that of Detroit) passed away Wednesday (November 19, 2008). She was born January 31, 1907 in Riquewihr, France to Charles and Salomone (Fehmann) Niedermeyer She married Eugene Wohlfrom on June 6, 1931 in Detroit. Bertha and her husband Eugene owned and operated Uptown Bakery in Detroit from 1931 until 1963. Bertha was a loving mother and grandmother. Brian Bradley Burnett, age 53, of Addison, formerly of the Onsted and Brooklyn area, passed away suddenly, Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008. Brian was born on Feb. 6, 1955, in Jackson, Mich., the son of Edgar H. and Geneva B. (Zeigler) Burnett. He graduated from Onsted High School in 1973. Brian worked at Meyer Boat Company in Adrian for several years.  He loved hunting, ice fishing, 4-wheeling, working with his 1968 Plymouth GTX, gardening and spending time with his many good friends. He is going to be dearly missed by all who knew him.  Brian is survived by his brother, Carrol (Sandra) Burnett of Brooklyn; sister, Twila Ives of Tecumseh; nephews, Mark (Susan) Ives and Scott (Marcia) Ives, all of Adrian; nieces, Lisa (Jeff) Cory of Tecumseh and Dawn (Neil) Harsh of Adrian, several nieces and nephews who live in Florida and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mark Burnett in infancy, and brother, Dale Burnett. Cremation has taken place. Born November 12, 1927 to loving parents Dora and Frank Bornor, passed on in peace on November 24, 2008 at age 81, with her daughters Cynthia and Sally by her side. She is also survived by Sally's husband Ron, grandchildren Erich, Nicole (Josh), Misha, Libby (Terry), and Emerson, and great-grandson Jayce. Gretchen's life is a testament to her loving, intelligent and independent spirit. She was born in Detroit and lived in several states during her childhood, as her father designed the nation's new highways. Her family later settled in Royal Oak, where she graduated from Royal Oak High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1949 in sociology and music from DePauw University in Indiana, where she created many lifelong friendships as a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Gretchen devoted countless volunteer hours as a Braille typist and with numerous other organizations while she was a wife and mother, and raised her two daughters with devotion, love and great fun. When she was in her 50s she earned a master's degree in social work from Wayne State University, and then worked as a medical social worker at St. Joseph's Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. In 1983 she became CEO of Detroit Air Compressor Company, which her parents had founded and run together for more than 40 years, and in the 1990s Gretchen received the Woman of the Year award from the National Association of Women Business Owners. Gretchen continually gave her love, thoughtfulness, keen intellect, grand humor and radiant smile to her family and many friends. She enjoyed traveling, and made everyone around her feel special. Gretchen marveled others with the power of her beautiful singing voice despite her 4'10" frame, reveled in the quiet of a glass of wine and a good book, and the beauty of Lake Michigan from her vacation home in northern Michigan. She leaves a lasting legacy of deep love for family, and a special style that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her forever. While the family will celebrate Gretchen's life privately, friends are welcome to share memories and extend condolences at, . Doris E. (Decker) Sampson age 81, of Colon, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2008, at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater. Doris was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Harry and Emma (Krontz) Mac Pherson. Doris grew up in Sturgis, graduating from Sturgis High School with the class of 1944. She later moved to Colon where she lived most all of her adult life. On Sept. l, 1946, she married Alvin W. Decker in Burr Oak and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1998.  She later married William K. Sampson on Jan. 17, 2000, in Colon. Doris was a homemaker and had worked for the former Denton Mills Company of Colon.  She loved and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris was a very active member of the Colon Church of Christ and loved her church family. She is survived by her husband, William Sampson of Colon; two daughters, Linda (Jerry) Albright of Colon and Shirley (Christopher) Smith of Colon; son-in-law, Monty Skinner of Leonidas; two step children, Teresa (Mark) Schantz of Tampa, Fla., and Jeff (Teresa) Sampson of Sturgis; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne K. Skinner in 2002; a son-in-law, David West in 1998; three great-grandchildren, Lyndsay and Leah West and Isaac Ray Reed; three brothers, John, Fred and William Mac Pherson; and two sisters, Faye Kline and Marguerite Thaden. Eugene C. “Gene” Damon, age 69, was called home unexpectedly to be with his Lord on Nov. 21, 2008.  Preceded in death by his father, Clarence. Survived by his loving wife, Linda;  mother, Dorothy (Damon); son, Steven (Ann) Damon; sister-in-law, Jean (Wayne) Carter;  several nieces and nephews and many loyal friends.  Gene was a collector of friends who admired his quick wit, devilish humor and varied knowledge. An adventurous spirit led him to discover new places, new things and additional knowledge.  Gene’s career encompassed a wide variety of skills. He was employed by DeVilbiss, Meilink, Syncor, Comerica and most recently GR Auto Auction. His passions were motorcycles, travel and talking with people he met along the way.  Gene spent four years in the Air Force, two in Goose Bay, Labrador,   He dreamed of returning there over the new highway. He lived vigorously, embracing life in living color.  A memorial service for Gene will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Evelyn F. Huff, age 90 years, of Hudson, passed away, Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Allegiance Health in Jackson. Evelyn was born on Aug. 15, 1918 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of George F. and Pearl C. (Williams) Waidelich. She married Leo A. Huff on November 2, 1940 in Grand Rapids. He survives. Leo and Evelyn moved to the Hillsdale County area in 1946 after Leo returned from the war. Evelyn was a former member of the Locust Corners Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hudson, an auxiliary member of Gideon’s International and the Friendship Club of Locust Corners. Evelyn enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. Surviving Evelyn are her husband of 68 years, Leo; two daughters, Judy (John) Garris of Quebec City, Quebec and Diane Cudney of Hudson; son, Wayne (Elaine) Huff of Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Purdy of Wyoming; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gale Lynn Ashbrook, age 61, of Sturgis, Mich., went to be with her Lord on No. 20, 2008, after battling an 18-year illness. She was born Nov. 9, 1947, in Newaygo, Mich., and has lived in Sturgis most of her wonderful life.  She enjoyed bingo, coloring and spending time with her family.  She was and always will be the most wonderful person you could ever meet, was a very spirited and happy person, and was a loving mother, sister, friend, and grandmother to all.  No matter how gloomy your day was you could hear or see her and guarantee your day would change. Gloria J. Blaker, 65, of Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at her home.  She was born Feb. 21, 1943 in Hillsdale to Ora and Merle (Fenstermaker) Carlisle.  She was married Dec. 30, 1961 to Ronald Blaker and he survives. Gloria was a 1961 graduate of Reading High School and was a member of the Honors Choir.  She attended Jackson Community College, was on the Dean's List for two years and was active in the JCC Tutoring program. Gloria attended Bankers Baptist Church. Besides her husband, Ronald, she is survived by her father, Ora Carlisle of Hillsdale; three daughters, Oralie (Gary) Amrhein and Toni (Robert) Ashton both of Jonesville and Donna Thompson of Hillsdale; an adopted son, Gary Estel of Jonesville; a brother, Clyde (Mary) Carlisle of Quincy; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Merle and one sister. Cremation has taken place.  There will be a memorial service at a later date. Harold L. Wirebaugh, 76, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. He was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Calhoun County to Lawrence and Pearl (Sherman) Wirebaugh. He was married Sept. 30, 1966 to Mary Harwood and she preceded him in death in 1997. Harold retired from Hillsdale Tool after 22 years of service. He was a resident of Hillsdale and Calhoun Counties the majority of his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Westfall and Cheryl Hyatt, both of Hillsdale; son, Harold Wirebaugh Jr. of Hillsdale; step-daughter, Kim (Dan) Moyer of Osseo; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Herlinda R. Hernandez, age 57, of Holland, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, at her home.  She was born on September 26, 1951 in San Antonio, TX, to Pedro and Severa (Reyes) Hernandez and had come to Muskegon in 1967 and then Holland in 1969.  Herlinda worked as a self- employed tax preparer and she also prepared the documents that are necessary for legal immigration to America.  Herlinda touched many lives with her immigration efforts, both Hispanic and Asian people where guided by her help and concern.  Herlinda was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church.  She is survived by daughters, Esmerelda, Tere, Amelia; sons, Alonzo, Israel, and Cruz; grandchildren, Sierra, Luz, Morgan, Isabella, Christian and Isaiah; sisters, Dominga and Stella; a brother, Ric.  She was preceded in death by brothers, Pete and Gilbert.   The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, 195 W. 13th St., Holland. Irvin Dale Mokma, age 79, of Holland, passed away Friday, November 21, 2008, at the Harbors Health Care Facility in Douglas after a difficult struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Irv was born in Holland May 1, 1929 to Donald and Mabel (Andringa) Mokma. He was a graduate of Holland High School and also a graduate of Kendall School of Design. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War. Irv was employed in the art and advertising field and was a partner for 10 years with Wayne Dennis in the advertising agency of Dennis/ Mokma Associates. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Holland where he served in the greater consistory. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Paul Mokma and his sister, Arla Schaap. James Melvin Chapman Sr., 66, of E. Lake Drive, Fish Lake, White Pigeon, Mich., died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at his home following an extended illness. He was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Coldwater, a son of Melvin John Chapman and Vera L. Gerth. He had resided in the Fish Lake area and White Pigeon since 1963, coming from Three Rivers. On Nov. 9, 1959, he married Brenda J. Chiddister in Kalamazoo. He was a truck driver for 35 years and was employed at White Pigeon Paper Mill for six years. James was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1355, Sons of the American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose #574 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #1314, all of Sturgis, and the Amvets of Mount Dora, Fla. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding. Surviving are: his wife, Brenda J. Chapman of White Pigeon; three sons, Jeff Monty (Toni) Chapman of Punta Gorda, Fla., Jerry Michael (Donna) Chapman of Three Rivers and John Mark (Lisa) Chapman of Goshen, Ind.; his mother, Vera L. Lord of Leesburg, Fla.; five granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Linda L. Chapman of Dubuque, Iowa. In her leisure time, Jean enjoyed flower gardening, camping, bicycling and walking on the beach. She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren, baking and decorating for the holidays. On Aug. 31, 2001, she married Jerry Kohler and he survives, along with two daughters, Shannon (Jimmie) VanDusen of Hillsdale, and Erica (Jeff Hite) Barker of Waldron; one son, Shaun (Missy) Barker of Osseo; one brother, Terry McCalla of Angola, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Taylor, Devin and Jadyn VanDusen, Damien, Seth and Zoey Barker and Kierstyn Barker and Uriah Hite; one nephew, Tim McCalla. Joan Roberts Lapeer Joan Roberts, age 87, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, passed away Sunday (November 9, 2008). She was born August 21, 1921 in Lapeer to Harry and Nina (Smith) Weston. She married Bryan J. Roberts, Jr. on August 14, 1950 in Lapeer. Joan was a 1939 graduate of Lapeer High School. She earned her RN Certificate after attending 3 years at the Hurley Hospital School of Nursing. Joan served her country proudly in the US Army during WWII. After the war, Joan worked over 35 years at Lapeer County General Hospital where she held various positions, including the Director of Staff Development. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, worked as a hospital volunteer following retirement and enjoyed doing needlework. She took great pleasure visiting and caring for her grandchildren and shared a strong comradery with her five sisters. Joseph Ernest Tongiani passed away peacefully at his home in Tavares, Fla., on Nov. 21, 2008.  Joe was born in Universal, Ind., on Sept. 1, 1922.  Prior to his retirement he was co-owner of the Central Meat Market in Sturgis, Mich.  Joe was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was known for his sense of humor and devotion to the Chicago Cubs.  He served Holy Angels Church in Sturgis as an usher and St. Patrick’s Church in Mt. Dora, Fla., as a minister to the sick and an usher.  Mr. Tongiani was a veteran of World War II.  He was a collector of big band music and along with his wife, Anna, provided dance music for many parties in his retirement community.  His hobbies included his extensive music collection, hunting, fishing and golfing.  Mr. Tongiani was preceded in death by his two sisters, Elvera Carbaugh and Angeline Malandt.  He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Anna Emsing Tongiani; daughters, Joanne (Paul) Roe of Sturgis, Mich., and Julia (Robert) Rachor of Tavares, Fla.; grandchildren, Kathy (Tom) Roe Fean, Tony Rachor, Cathy Rachor, Charles Rachor, Robert (Candy) Rachor, and Joseph (Kris) Rachor; and nine great-grandchildren.  Masses will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church in Mt. Dora and at Holy Angels Church in Sturgis.  Burial of ashes will take place at the Florida Military National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.  The dates have not been confirmed. Lawrence M. Haglund, 73, of Reading, passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at the Laurels of Coldwater. He was born Nov. 16, 1934 in Pennington County, Minn. He had been employed in the auto industry and had also worked in the curb and gutter business. Survivors include his wife, Mary (Hueston) Haglund, whom he married April 4, 1975, one daughter Loretta (Brad) Lane of Utah, one stepdaughter Arlene Ledbetter of Caledonia, four sons Michael (Estralita) Haglund of Minnesota, Darrell (Nadine) Haglund of Arizona, Jon Haglund and David Haglund both of Utah, three sisters Esther McFarland, Mable (Dean) Dagen, Dorothy Osse, one brother John (Shirley) Haglund all of Minnesota and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Markley June 20, 1931 in Gaines and he preceded her in death April 15, 2001. She retired from Gaines Elementary School in 1972 after 29 1/2 years of service and also had taught at Boyd School. Mrs. Markley had resided in Gaines since 1928 and had wintered in Punta Gorda, FL after retirement. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Gaines were she taught Sunday School for many years, Byron OES Hulda Chapter #212, Gaines Community Club and Genesee County Farm Bureau. Linda L. Sumner, 68, of rural Pioneer, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, in her home following an illness. Born Feb. 19, 1940, near Montpelier, Ohio, to Audrey Fern (Starr) and Donald B. Esterline, she was a lifelong Montpelier and Pioneer area resident. On June 26, 1959, she married L. Duane Sumner and he survives. A 1958 graduate of Montpelier High School, she was a homemaker and had retired in Nov. 2006 from Hillside Country Living where she had been employed for over 17 years. She was a member and former pianist of Central United Brethren Church, Montpelier and the past few years attended Lake View Church at Merry Lake. Also surviving are two sons, Shane E. She was a homemaker and along with caring for her family, she enjoyed an active church life. She taught Sunday School and was her church’s pianist. She was very active with the Women of the Church of God, Western Washington, and was their treasurer for many years. She moved to this area in 1980 from Seattle, Wash. Mary A. Weiss 1940-2008 Mary Ann Weiss, 67, prominent Port Hope area farmer, passed away Sunday morning, November 16, 2008 at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She was born in Harbor Beach on December 11, 1940, the daughter of the late Walter and Rose (Wodwaska) Goniwicha. Mary and Leslie Weiss Sr. were united in marriage on February 27, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Together they farmed with their family near Port Hope for nearly fifty years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and the Port Hope Retirees. She also enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle, working on her farm and caring for her dairy cows. She is survived by her son, Leslie (Linda) Weiss Jr., Port Hope; daughter, Susan (Scott) Dobson, Clarkston; four grandchildren, Steven, Jennifer and Joseph Weiss and Scott Dobson, Jr.; three sisters, Jeanette and Jackie Goniwicha, Harbor Beach and Rita Frank, Bay Village, Ohio and brother-in-law, Joseph Calabrese, Pompano Beach, Fla. Mary Elizabeth Fieberkorn, 84, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Friday afternoon Nov. 21, 2008, at her home. She was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Chicago, a daughter to the late Horace & Hazel (Nash) Case. Mary had resided in the Sturgis and Three Rivers area nearly her whole life. On Feb. 1, 1947, she married Raymond L. Fieberkorn in Kalamazoo, Mich. He died June 15, 1996. She was a registered nurse and graduated from Bronson Hospital School of Nursing in Kalamazoo. Mary was a dedicated volunteer to the Salvation Army. She and her husband loved to travel and she was very proud of the fact that they had traveled to every country in the World with the exception of Australia. She is survived by her two cousins, Hazel (Erwin) Wessels of Iva, SC and Helen Case of Chicago; and her two cats, Blackie and Leo. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Stephen Fillion, pastor of the St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, officiated. Matthew John Rozman III, 61, of Adrian passed Nov. 17, 2008. Much beloved husband of 41 years to Connie (Shepherd). Proud and loving father of Matthew IV (Andrea), Jessica Hallenbeck (Jason), and Amanda and her fiancé, Shawn Barnes. Proud and happy grandfather of Lily Youngdahl, Matthew V, and Samuel Hallenbeck. Survived by his sisters, Lucille, Marie and Elizabeth, and brothers- and sisters-in-law who love him, and by his loving mother-in-law, Claudia Shepherd. Matt was a lifetime hockey goalie and active in many other sports, including football, baseball, golf, and horseback riding. He had a vast knowledge of sports and was an enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Red Wings and the University of Michigan football team. He loved being with his family and playing with his grandchildren. Charles was born April 1, 1916 in Lansing, the son of Charles W. and Iva (Harris) McGill, Sr. His interest in photography began at East Lansing High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a combat photographer in the First Motion Picture Unit during World War II. While he made an excellent Nazi extra in Hollywood, he shipped out to cover the Italian front. Snuffy was a freelance photographer, award winning TV newsreel cameraman. He worked for the Free Press, Ford, Hearst Metrotone News, ABC, CBS , WJBK and the UAW for many years. He and wife Eadie built the first motion picture public relations firm, Snuffy McGill Productions. After retirement from television, Snuffy was very active in local charity work including his favorite, the Capuchin Retreat House in St. Clair. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edythe (Gray) McGill and his son, Charles W. McGill, III. His daughter, Sue A. McGill of Linden, survives him. Robert J. Kuch 1927 - 2008 Robert Joseph "Bob" Kuch, 81, Caseville, passed away Monday, November 17, 2008 at his home. He was born at home in Caseville on April 4, 1927, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Fashing) Kuch. On November 18, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dolores J. Reick at St. John's Lutheran Church, Berne. He attended Caseville Schools and in 1945 he graduated from Pigeon High School. In 1944 he began his service with the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Bob was a sports lover, enjoying the Tigers, Lions, Pistons, as well as high school sports. He loved to farm and farmed throughout his lifetime. Bob was a kind man, having many friends and enjoyed being with them. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Berne, where he was baptized and confirmed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores; his children, Sherril (Lee) Steinman, Pigeon, Ronald (Connie) Kuch, Caseville, Ann (Donald) Herford, Elkton and Lori Neal & friend Joseph Wonsowicz, Pigeon; six grandchildren: James (Tricia) Steinman, Jeremy (Heidi) Steinman, Jason Kuch, David Kuch, Brandon Neal and Rebecca Neal; six great-grandchildren, Kaela, Clayton, Colton, Sarah, Skylar and Sadie; a sister, Erma Meissner, Portage and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Kuch and two sisters, Caroline Caspar and Amelia Bolzman. Rosa Lee Vaughn, age 84, of Adrian died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at her home. She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Sulphur Rock, Ark., to Jeff Burks and Estella Franklin (Shirley) Fugatt. On Dec. 24, 1945, she married Floyd J. Vaughn. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1991. Floyd and Rosa ministered at Clinton Baptist for many years. Rosa had been employed by Marianne for 26 years. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Rosa is survived by three sons, Floyd W. Vaughn of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tommy Vaughn and his wife, Becky, of Adrian and Dennis “Bump” Vaughn and his wife, Kelly, of Adrian; two daughters, Rosaetta Fields and her husband, Norm, of Emporia, Kan., and Elaine Hendricks and her husband, Paul, of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Gene Fugatt and his wife, Bobbie, of Gallitin, Tenn., Dean Fugatt and his wife, Sue, of Mountain Home, Ark., Jeff Fugatt of Bisco, Ark.; two sisters, Dorothy Smith of Pacific, Mo., and Stella Russell and her husband, Grady, of Lonoke, Ark.; two half brothers, Terry Fugatt and his wife, Ann, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ricky Fugatt and his wife, Cathy, of Jacksonville, Ark.; three half sisters, Kay Collins and her husband, Shelby, of Jacksonville, Ark., Connie Adams of Jacksonville, Ark., and Cathy Arnold and her husband, Michael, of Augusta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, the Rev. Sean was born April 2, 2008, in Adrian to Thomas and Lisa (Killion) Golema. He was a beautiful, happy boy. Sean was the light of his family’s lives and will never be forgotten by those surviving, including his parents, his big sister, Evelyn, all of Jasper; maternal grandparents, Allen and Nancy Killion of Defiance, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Cynthia Golema of Britton; maternal great-grandmother, Armella Killion-Schmidt of Defiance, Ohio; paternal great-grandfather, Ernest Christner of Saline; aunt, Kerri Killion-Mueller and Donald Mueller of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and uncle, David Golema of Dexter. Shirley June Sargent, age 81, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Monday morning Nov. 24, 2008, at her home. She was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Blue Island, Ill., a daughter to the late Theodore and Mable (Wertendyke) Pyle. Shirley had resided in the Sturgis and White Pigeon area since 1984, coming from Cleveland, Ohio. Following several years of employment, she retired from Coachman Industries in Middlebury, Ind. Shirley enjoyed painting and art classes and was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. Surviving are: two daughters, Debra (Michael) Gorski of Cleveland, Ohio and Diane (Darrel) Hochstetler of Goshen, Ind.; two sons, Derk (Lelia) Sargent of Burr Oak and Darrell (Barbara) Sargent of Sturgis; 14 grandchildren, Dane Doremus, Robert Doremus, Derk Sargent Jr., Michael Bower, David Bower, Nathan Gorski, Jennifer Gorski, Brandon Gorski, William Sanders, Robert Sanders, JaNee Smith, Brandi Smith, Thomas Sargent and Kendra Sargent; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Anita) Pyle of Hastings; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes-Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. A funeral service celebrating the life of Shirley Sargent will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Larry Wallman officiating.
