VEJNOVICH, Bernard - Age 87, of Montrose, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, April 10, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek with Pastor Susan Liddums officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8 PM and Thursday from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Mr. Vejnovich was born June 17, 1921 St. Paul, MN, the son of Sam and Josephine (Brania) Vejnovich. He married Lorraine Lindow June 14, 1941 in Flint and she preceded him in death May 3, 1988. He then married Lillian Brookman May 23, 1990 in Flint and she preceded him in death January 12, 2004. He had resided in Montrose since 1990, coming from Grand Blanc. Mr. Vejnovich retired from AC Spark Plug after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 651. Mr. Vejnovich also enjoyed Square Dancing. Surviving are: son, Kevin and wife Cathy Vejnovich of Lennon; granddaughter, Katie and husband Joe Barth of Lennon; brother, Frank and wife Marianne Vejnovich of Flushing; sister, Mildred Clifford of Flushing; sister-in-law, Christine Vejnovich of Florida; step-daughters, Jeri and husband Ron Cooper of Montrose and Terrie Rohlfs of Illinois; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Gerry Nottingham of Flint. Bessie M. Spieth, 88, of Osseo, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  She was born Jan. 3, 1921, in Horton to Leon and Effie Belle (Town) Gleason.  She was married Sept. 1, 1979, to Loyal Spieth and he preceded her in death in 2000. Bessie was a former nurse’s aide at St. Paul’s and the T.B. Sanitarium in Jackson and Maple Lawn Facility in Hillsdale.  She retired from Jonesville Products.  She was a resident of Jackson prior to residing in Osseo, and a member of the Latter Day Saint’s of Jonesville. Surviving are six daughters, Lowanda (Harry) Bitner of Jackson, Tjuana (Harry) Horn of Bankers, Shela (Chris) Plunkett of Allentown, Pa., Brenda (Brad) Ruka of Holland, Serena (Ron) Sanders and Sara (James) Broughman, both of Hillsdale;  five sons, Darwin (Donna) Butler of Osseo, Byron (Tashia) Myers of Hillsdale Alton (Diane) Worth of Hillsdale, Richard (Sandy) Spieth of Petersburg, Mich., and Jack Spieth of Hillsdale; sister, Georgia Pettit of Arizona.  There are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Bessie Spieth will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. Daniel Pann officiating.  Interment will follow at Roseland Memorial Gardens in Jackson. Bill Pruitt

PRUITT, Bill D. Of Frostproof, FL Formerly of Kalamazoo Passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 at Florida Hospital in Orlando. He was born January 14, 1942 in Wichita, KS to the late Daniel and Eulayla (White) Pruitt. While on leave in the military, Bill was united in marriage, on December 26, 1959, to the former Harriett Groen, who survives. Bill served in the United States Navy from February of 1959 until honorably discharged in September of 1962. He became a police officer in 1964 and dedicated his entire life to protecting and serving American citizens. He retired from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department in 1998. Twice, in the line of duty, Bill was decorated for acts of bravery; both incidents involved risking his own life to save a person from a fire. Bill loved fishing and hunting. He loved to occupy his off time with remodeling or car repair projects. He was an accomplished marksman and avidly spoke of rights and responsibilities of handling firearms. He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior in 1978, and his love and study of God's Word brought about many beautiful changes and growth in his life. He shared all the Lord revealed to him with all who would listen, especially eschatology. He and his wife Harriet took a trip to Israel and the Holy Lands in 1982 and this trip was the source of many favored memories. Also surviving Bill are his children, Linda (James) Mickel of Homosassa, FL, Bill (Judy) Pruitt, Jr., of San Antonio, TX, and Chad (Alicia) Pruitt of Chesapeake, VA; brother, Steven (Shirley) Pruitt of Pittsburg, KS; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will take place Friday, 2:00 PM, at the Mt. Ever-Rest Chapel, 3941 S. Westnedge Ave., where family will also greet friends from 1:30-2:00 PM. Charles Frederick Kline, 84, of Midland, Mich., passed away March 21, 2009, at Brookdale Senior Living in Midland. He was born May 7, 1924 in Litchfield to the late Dr. Fred and Hilda (Smith) Kline. He married Lois Brown of Midland on May 29, 1954, who predeceased him. Mr. Kline graduated as valedictorian from Litchfield High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1943 through June 1946 as an ensign. Upon his discharge he attended Hillsdale College where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. During college he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He then entered the University of Pennsylvania obtaining his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton Graduate School of Business. He retired from Dow Chemical Co., of Midland after a long career in industrial management. As a young man he was very active in 4-H. He raised and exhibited livestock at a local county fair. His love of fairs and livestock continued throughout his life. As an adult he owned harness race horses, which competed at fairs and tracks throughout the Midwest and Canada. He served as harness racing secretary for the Midland County Fair from 1958-2008. He also served as director and president of the Board of Directors for the Northern Michigan Fairs and Racing Association. In 2007, Charlie Kline was inducted into the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame. Mr. Kline had a strong desire to promote education. He was an avid supporter of Hillsdale College giving support to various areas within the college, including sponsorship of the Charles F. Kline Chair of History and Management, which is currently held by Burton Fulsom, author of “The Myth of the Robber Barons.”  He is also a member of the college’s President’s Club. He is survived by two sisters, Harriet (Ellwood) Janney of Ottawa Hills, Ohio, and Jane (Dr. James) Roberts of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kline of Hillsdale; 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, James C. Kline and Thomas P. Kline. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 3 at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., in Midland. Interment will be June 4 in Litchfield at the Mt. Hope Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon following at Hillsdale College. Eicher, age 70, of Mendon, Mich., died peacefully on April 8, 2009, at 7:55 a.m., at his home.  He was born on Oct. 9, 1938, in Berne, Ind., to the late Ben and Mary (Schwartz) Eicher.  Clarence lived 70 years, 6 months and 30 days. On Nov. 16, 1947, he married Salome Wickey and lived in matrimony until her death on April 29, 1995. His is survived by eight brothers, Ben B. Eicher Jr., Jacob B. Eicher, John B. Eicher, Elmer William Eicher, Solomon James Eicher, Levi Martin Eicher, Phillip Melvin Eicher and Norman Eicher; six sisters, Many Jane Hilty, Barbara Ann Schwartz, Flossie Bernice Hilty, Nancy Jean Eicher, Rachel Kay Hershberger, and Anna Mae Yoder; four sons, Joe (Lovina) Eicher of Burr Oak, Clarence Eicher Jr. of Burr Oak,  Benjamin (Miriam) Eicher of Sugar Creek, Ohio, and Noah Eicher of ; eight daughters, Maryann (Jake) Schwartz of Centreville, Ruth (Chris) Schwartz of Berne, Carol (Pete) Eicher of Centreville, Christine (Jake) Wengerd of Hersey, Esther (David) Eicher of Constantine, Loretta (Henry) Eicher of Mendon, Salome (Morris) Hilty of Geneva, Ind., and Susan Eicher of Sturgis; 53 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Corinne was born May 17, 1925 in Toledo to Isabel (Sharp) and William Winsler. While living in Toledo, Corinne was involved in many activities. Besides a homemaker, she drove a school bus, sold Avon for 27 years and after moving to Michigan she sold real estate for 11 years. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, especially quilt making, bowling, reading, and jewelry-making. She was preceded in death by her husband Mark Sr. who died in 1986 and her son Laurence who died in 1999. Corinne is survived by her sons Mark (Sue) Foos of Coldwater, Roger (Karen) Foos of Sylvania, Ohio and daughter Kay (Mike) Napoletano of Toledo and sister-in-law Kathleen Partlow. Corinne also has 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gillespie Funeral Home in Coldwater. He was born January 5, 1960 in Deckerville, to Wanda (Wintermute) and Archie L. Davis. He graduated from Reese High School in 1978. Dave and Pam (Knight) were married on August 17, 1985 in Birch Run, Michigan. Dave was a member of the Birch Run Moose Lodge #2426 and was employed by Materials-Levy Corporation of Saginaw. In addition to spending time with his family, Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the woods. He is survived by his wife; Pam, his children; Shane and Kristal, all of Reese, his mother; Wanda, one sister; Connie (John) Bowerman all of Deckerville, one brother; Greg (Brenda) David of Saginaw, one sister-in-law; Julie Davis of Deckerville, mother-in-law; Elaine Knight, one brother-in-law; Mark (Kheila) Knight, all of Birch Run. Dennis W. Wesse, age 59, of White Pigeon, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Valley View Health Care in Elkhart, Ind., following a short illness. Dennis was born May 12, 1949, the Three Rivers, a son of Harold and Juanita (Schultz) Wesse. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam. On Oct. 5, 1984, he married Linda Hurst in Constantine. He resided in White Pigeon most of his life and was a truck driver. Dennis was a member of Swartz-VanFleet Post #138 American Legion of White Pigeon, the Heritage Trail Chapter #2155 Harley Owners Group of Sturgis. Surviving are his wife, Linda Wesse of White Pigeon; one daughter, Deb Lawrence; three sons, Jason Hurst, Shane and Mike Wilbur; two granddaughters, Taylor Lawrence and Abbigale Wilbur; parents, Harold and Juanita Wesse; two sisters, Donna Hendricks and Marsha Chapman; one brother, Marty Wesse; Uncle Art; three aunts, Maggie, Loraine and Rosemary; several nieces and nephews; 168 sisters and brothers of the H.O.G.  Chapter #2155. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich. Donald Erwin Wood Lapeer Donald Erwin Wood, 75, of Lapeer, passed away Monday (April 6, 2009). He was born June 17, 1933, in Caro, to George and Ada Mae (Vrooman) Wood. He married Janet Semkiw on October 1, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. Mr. Wood proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for the State of Michigan in a mental health care facility. He was a member of the Immaculate Parish and Knights of Columbus - 4th Degree. He was a member of the NRA. Don was a devoted husband and father. KELLEY, Doris M. Of Plainwell Passed away April 7, 2009 at Bronson Hospital. She was born March 4, 1913 in Kalamazoo, to the late Louis and Nellie Peters. Doris was united in marriage to John A. Kelley for a loving 48 years, who preceded her in death in 1982. She retired from Cadillac Overall Supply in 1978 after 20 years of service as a seamstress. She was a member of the Kalamazoo Westside Lions Club for many years. She enjoyed her yard and garden. She also enjoyed working on many different craft projects. Surviving Doris are her children, Richard "Dick" Kelley of Covert, MI, Joan (Jim) Mallory of Kalamazoo and Jean (Eugene) Riggs of Battle Creek; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Edward "Barney" F. Schubring 1929-2009 Edward "Barney" Schubring, 79, Port Hope, passed away April 1, 2009 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born on September 2, 1929 in Port Hope to the late Edward and Martha (Zick) Schubring. Barney and Annabelle Thrusman were united in marriage on December 6, 1952 in Port Hope. Barney was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope. He was a musician for over 50 years, playing in many bands including the Barney Schubring Trio where he was a recording artist and radio personality. He was inducted into the Michigan Country Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a bus driver for the Port Hope Community Schools for 50 years, a member of the Huron Intermediate School District Board for 34 years and enjoyed farming. He is survived by his wife, Anne, Port Hope; his son, Steven (Debra) Schubring, Port Hope; granddaughter, Breann Schubring; four step-grandchildren, Jason, Trista, Season and Brandon; ten step-great-grandchildren and sisters,Norma (Ernie) Callender, West Bloomfield, Elaine (Arnold) Brown, Port Hope and Irene (Emerson) Pilaske, Port Hope. Guy M. Cox, cherished husband, dedicated father and doting grandpa, passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center, Adrian. Guy was born on Feb. 6, 1927, in North Adams, Mich., to parents Charles Roscoe Cox and Hazel Beth Ann Reynolds Cox. He and his four brothers attended and graduated from Addison Community Schools. Guy entered the United States Navy in 1944 to serve aboard an LSM 41. He was a Seaman 1st Class during World War II and participated in several campaigns in the Philippines and South Pacific. He was the ship Chaplain and Store Keeper. At the end of the War, he decommissioned his ship in Charleston, S.C. Guy has continued to stay in touch with his navy buddies at various navel reunions. He has enjoyed sharing his sea stories with friends and family. Throughout the years he has stayed in touch with best friend and shipmate Harry Bryson of Columbus, Ohio. Upon his return to the states, Guy entered Adrian College to study  in the pre-law program. He also became interested in a young woman, Juanita Mae Luce. Guy and Juanita were married on Dec. 11, 1954, at the Tipton Community Congregational Church, Tipton, Mich. Their marriage of more than 50 years has been filled with  square dancing, a neighborhood euchre club, church bowling leagues, and watching western movies. Guy was employed by the Tecumseh Products for 42 years. During his tenure there he was an active member of the Tecumseh Products Workers Union. He served as the secretary or president for almost 20 years. He fought for the rights of the workers and made many friends along the way. Guy has always been an active community member. He has been a Boy Scout Leader, Tipton Community Congregational Church member and a member of the Moose and American Legion. His latest project was the Lenawee County Landlords Association where he served as treasurer. Guy expressed his adventurous spirit by flying his Piper J4E and riding his Indian motorcycle. He enjoyed giving rides to family. Guy loved family outings such as canoeing the Au Sable River, sightseeing in the Colorado Mountains, and trips to Florida and Canada were high points for him. Guy is survived by son, Guy (Kris) Corwin Cox of Tecumseh;  daughters, Connie (James) Morse of Tecumseh, Cathy (Mikkel) Gammeltoft of Tipton and Cynthia (Scott) Upton, of Spring, Texas;  brothers, Burtus E. Cox and Charles Cox of North Ada He has 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Robert and Timothy and brothers, Robert and Laverne. A celebration of Guy’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Tecumseh with the Rev. Keith Porter and Pastor John Deuble officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Township Cemetery, Tipton, Mich., with military honors performed by U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team, Toledo, Ohio.  Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at J. He married Thelma Arlene Kaake on August 23, 1941 in Lapeer. Hazen served his country in the U.S. Army. He was part of the Military Police division state side. Jim grew up in Adrian and graduated from Adrian High School in 1943.  He attended the University of Michigan as a Navy ROTC student and graduated in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a forward observer in the Korean conflict. After marrying Barbara Ott in 1952, Jim and family moved to California and later Washington State where Jim worked in aerospace. In Washington he worked on the Viking Mars Lander and Voyager Space Probe programs. He was a life-long duck hunter. Jim was preceded in death by his much loved sister, Patricia Hoben, and brother, Jerome Page. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and sons, Stephen and Charles. He will be missed by his sisters-in-law, Mary Page and Marjorie Evans; brother-in-law, Edgar Evans, and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Adrian in June.

He had been employed by CTS which is now Syndicate Store Fixtures in Middlebury, Ind., retiring in 1992.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. Surviving are his wife, Virginia; two sons, David Lewis Osbon of White Pigeon and Charles Duane Osbon of Sturgis; one daughter, Barbara Jean Osbon of Sturgis; a step-daughter, Brenda May Leonard of Sturgis; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Billie Jean Osbon of Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his parents. According to his wishes there will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place. He was born 15-04-1927, in Hensall, Ontario, Canada, to Lewis D. and Bona (Blackwell) Clark. Mr. Clark worked in mental health at Oakdale Center in Lapeer for 20 years. He attended Air Observer School #4 (Aircraft Mechanics - RCAF Base) in London, Ontario, Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Army Infantry during WWII, the United States Army Engineers during WWII, United States Navy Reserve (Detroit) and the Royal Canadian Legion BR 156 (Seaforth, Ontario, Canada). John B. Garman passed away on March 22, 2009, peacefully at his home after a short illness. He was born on April 22, 1929 to Forrest and Arvella Garman in Bronson. He graduated from Bronson High School and then enlisted in the Army where he worked in communications. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Coldwater for many years. John married Jean Garman on May 29, 1987 in Coldwater. He lived all his life in Bronson on Cary Lake and worked tool and die. Seven years ago, he moved to Florida. John enjoyed fishing, riding his scooter and loved listening to people talk. He was a beloved father and grandpa. He will be missed. Preceding him in death were his parents, Forest and Arvella; a sister, JoAnn Eichler; and two sons, Mark and Gary Garman. John has two surviving sons, Scott and Creig Garman. Also surviving are four stepchildren — Brad, Larry Stuckey, Michelle Ash and Dawn Meisner; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws Kathy and Bill Stahler and Joyce and Lyle Roan. The memorial service for will be held at Cary Lake on April 11, 2009 at 1 p.m. A dinner will be held at the Girard Methodist Church immediately following the service. Joseph C. Sanderson, 72, of Reading, passed away Sunday (April 5, 2009) at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.  He was born Oct. 28, 1936 in Paulding, Ohio to Clyde and Barbara (Powell) Sanderson. He graduated from Grover Hill High School in 1954 and worked at Hillsdale Tool/Eagle Pitcher, retiring after 33 years.  Joseph had belonged to the Reading Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Reading Coon Hunters’ Association. Hunting and fishing were favorite hobbies, but he especially loved his grandchildren and was a regular attendee at Reading High School sporting events. He also enjoyed coaching girl’s summer softball games.  Survivors include his wife Joyce (Mundy) Sanderson, whom he married July 3, 1959; daughters Janean (Jeff) Bignell of Coldwater, Jeanette Munson (Rex VanAlst, Sr.) of Reading, Jackie Stanley of Jonesville and Jill (Scott) Wert of Reading; sister Lou Ellen (Barry) Hinkle of Frontier; brother Richard Sanderson of Clearwater, Fla.; and grandchildren Jared (Randi) Bignell, Jordan Bignell, Bryanne Stanley, Emily Stanley and Christopher Wert His parents and brother Ray preceded him in death. Judith Louise (Rambadt) Bower of Sturgis, passed into eternal sleep April 6, 2009, at  Three Rivers Area Hospital at the age of 69. She was born on Oct. 20, 1939, the oldest daughter of Lavern and Ruth (Hill) Rambadt. Judy was married to John LaTour in 1958, but was later reunited with her high school sweetheart, John Ed Baker. Judy was a longtime worker at the Sturgis Children’s Center and at Grants/Ames Department Store. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, traveling, volunteering her time to the Sturgis Toy Run and dedicating her life to her children, grandchildren, and at the end her great-grand children. Judy left many loved ones behind. First and foremost was her lifelong companion John Ed Baker; her sister Sarah Rambadt, her son Fred Victor LaTour and wife Debbie LaTour, her daughters Star Ellen Jones and husband Starr West Jones III, and Julie Diane Kestner and husband David Kestner, and Trina and Gary Luce; her grandchildren Nicholas, Victoria, Michael Cody, Amber, Jesse, Winter, Justina, Hannah, Cindy, Christine, Rory, Harry, and Chauncy; and finally her great-grandchildren Joshua, Alyssa, Isaac, Ian, Danielle, Dylan, Sean and Lacie. She has been preceded in death by her loving parents Lavern and Ruth Rambadt, her daughter Evelyn, and her son LaVern. Relatives and friends of Judy will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today  at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes, Rosenberg Chapel, Sturgis. Larry V. Beem, 69, of Camden Township, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Community Hospital in Bryan, Ohio.  He was born Nov. 13, 1939 in Hillsdale to Derwood and Mary (Shaffer) Beem. Larry graduated from Camden-Frontier High School in 1957 and had been a truck driver for ATL (now Continental Express) for 35 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes, and camping. Larry belonged to the Fremont, Ind. Moose Lodge #2387 and had held the offices of Governor and Chaplain. He was also a member of the NRA, American Fisherman’s Club and he loved helping with breakfasts at the Montgomery American Legion. On Sept. 11, 1971 he married Edith (Long) and she preceded him in death in 2004. Survivors include one daughter, Lorrie (Michael) Beard of Ypsilanti; one son, Richard (Sonya) Beem of Montgomery; one sister, Linda (Ernie) Ash of Reading; one brother, Lynn (Stephanie) Beem of Reading; and five grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Tim Beem. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Ron Green officiating.  Interment will follow in Berg Cemetery, Montgomery. Lee Adrian Salisbury, age 79, of Three Rivers, Mich., died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.  He was born on April 19, 1929, in Mishawaka, Ind., the third of 12 children born to Lewis and Alice (Colley) Salisbury.  Lee was a carpenter by trade.  He worked numerous jobs around the country as part of the Carpenter’s Union.  He has resided in Three Rivers the past two and a half years, coming from Traverse City.  Lee enjoyed restoring old furniture, and had assisted many neighbors with their home repairs following his retirement. He also enjoyed cooking, and was known for his homemade pies.  Lee was married to Sharon DeTour on July 5, 1983, in Bangor, Maine.  She survives, along with five children, Samuel L. Salisbury of St. Charles, Mo., Patti Wilfong of Tulsa, Okla., Jennifer Miller of Anza, Calif., Karin Jo Richardson of Arizona, and Jayne Palmer of  Detroit; two stepdaughters, Melissa Wilson (Jesse Salisbury) of Three Rivers and Lynn Wilson (Kathy Hueffman) of Nashua, N.H.; 10 grandchildren, Margaret, Curtis, Sara, Fatima, Zahra, Taylor, Janell, Trevor, Daniel and Jacob; and one great-grandchild, Jacob; 10 siblings and their spouses, Joyce Kenny of Elkhart, Mary Lou and Eldon Ferm of Elkhart, Ind., Michael and Alice Salisbury of Constantine, Lynn Salisbury of Kalamazoo, John and Janet Salisbury of White Pigeon, Susan Ferguson of Sturgis, Nancy McFall of White Pigeon, Tom Salisbury of White Pigeon, Holly and Jim Hunter of White Pigeon, and Marty and Linda Salisbury of Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clifton Salisbury; a daughter-in-law, Karen (Shotwell) Salisbury  and a grandson, Ryan Murphy. Lee was a U.S. Navy Veteran 3rd Class Petty Officer, Pilot and Aviation Machinist. He retired in 1999 as a truck driver for L.J. Beal & Sons. He was a member of Teamsters Local 164 and the Teamsters Retiree Club of Jackson, a member and two-year past president of the Michigan Travel Trailer Club. Lee enjoyed bowling, fishing hunting and camping. Surviving, besides his wife, Sherryl, are two daughters, LeAnn Wilson and Kimberly (Scott) Friess, both of Cement City; a stepson, Fred (Regina) Glowe of Jonesville; two sisters, Vickie (Larry) Taylor of Jonesville and Anne Johncox of Morenci; a brother, William (Betty) Wilson of Addison; and two grandchildren, Ashley Julia and Jordyn Ann Friess. MYRTLE M. RHEAD LANSING Myrtle M. (Bopra) Rhead, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Lansing, Michigan. She was born November 3, 1924 in Carsonville, the daughter of Clair and Vera (Clark) Bopra. She graduated from Carsonville High School in 1942. During her working career she was employed by Ford Motor Company, Michigan Bell Telephone, Haffners Department Store and was a cook at Sandusky Community Schools. She served during World War II in the flight operations division of the United States Naval Air Station in Millington Tennessee. She married Kenneth A. Rhead on February 7, 1948 in Carsonville and resided most of her life in Sandusky. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Sanilac County Girls Scouts, Sandusky High School Band Boosters and served as a cub-scout leader. She was a member of the City of Sandusky Planning Commission, the Senior Citizen High Rise Commission, was Treasurer of the Sanilac County Republican Party and was Chairman of the Sanilac County Parks Commission. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth (1997), her daughter, Kristy Anne Campbell (2004) and two sisters Hazel (1920) and Betty Lou Rumble (2007). She is survived by three children; Kim (Margaret) Rhead of Holt, Kerry (Robert) Mason of Kendallville, Indiana and Gerald (Heather) Rhead of East Lansing, one son-in-law; Jerry Campbell of Kendallville, Indiana, two brothers; William Bopra of Croswell, Gene Bopra of Sandusky, two sisters; Marjorie (Robert) O'Connell of Carsonville and Marion (Douglas) Kenny of Deckerville, twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Pastor Luke D. Yoder 1929-2009 Pastor Luke D. Yoder, Pigeon, 79, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Country Gardens in Pigeon following a six-month illness with ALS. He was born November 24, 1929 in Greenwood, Del., son of the late David S. and Savilla (Bender) Yoder, and twin brother of Mark B. Yoder. He was united in marriage to Cora Mae Maust on December 28, 1949 in Pigeon. Luke served as minister and overseer of the Pigeon River Mennonite Church for over 40 years. He also served as a board member for Rosedale Mennonite Missions, Conservative Mennonite Conference, Eastern Mennonite University, and the Mennonite Church. He earned his living as a farmer, owning and operating Yoder Farms on South Bay Port Rd. Luke believed in the importance of family, church, generosity, and grace. She survives along with one son, Jerry (Sharon) Tucker of Elkhart, Ind.; one stepson, Gary Beatty of Wisconsin; two stepdaughters, Penny (Larry) Avery and Cris (Chuck) Rinehart, both of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Tucker of Coldwater and Robert Tucker of Union; four sisters, Mary Henderson of Coldwater, Betty Groholski of Burlington, Pat Case of Union City, and Peggy Pierson of Naples, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Elwanda Tucker of Coldwater. He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Tucker Jr., on April 4, 2005. Mr. Tucker had worked for Coca-Cola, Three Rivers, Continental Can Co., Elkhart, and Superior Manufacturing (Williamsburg), Nappanee, Ind. from which he retired. He had owned Tucker Tax Service for 53 years, Wildcat Travel Trailers in the '60s and was co-owner of Top-Cat Truck Caps. A graduate of Tri-State University with a bachelor's degree, Mr. Tucker was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed classic cars, traveling, camping and going to Lake Michigan to watch boats. Ray Edwin Hermance, 77, of Quincy, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.  He was born May 7, 1931, in Branch County to Ray H. and Alta (Kidder) Hermance.  Ray graduated from Quincy High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was employed at the Coldwater Regional Center for many years, and after retirement, he worked for Car Quest in Coldwater.  Ray belonged to the Quincy American Legion Post 52, and in his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing in Marble Lake, watching football, and working on cars. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Brenda (Norton), several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.  His parents and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services and military honors will be  1 p.m. Wednesday at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with interment following in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy.  Visitation is  10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  and 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.  Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Raymond “Mike” “Hoggie” Zimmerman, age 80, of Brooklyn passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian. He was born on Feb. 1, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Alfred J. and Marguerite (Stockman) Zimmerman. Raymond married Rosalie “Rose” Greenwood on Nov. 15, 1948, in Angola, Ind. She survives.  Raymond was an avid bowler and fisherman; he also enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling. He installed pin setters in Ohio and Michigan in the early 1950s for A.M.F. and worked for nearly 30 years for Lenawee Recreation in Adrian as a bowling mechanic. Surviving Raymond, besides his wife, Rose, are three daughters, Marguerite Kay of McKee, Ky., Deborah (Terry) Blevins of Buchanan, Tenn., and Janine Zimmerman of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Michael King, Max (Amy) Kay and Melissa Blevins, and one great-granddaughter, Paris Kay. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Crider. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Good Friday, April 10, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Shrine Church in Brooklyn with the Rev. Father Carl Simon officiating. Cremation will follow. Shirley J. Hanson 1935-2009 Shirley J. Hanson, 73, Bad Axe, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2009 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born on April 14, 1935 in Pigeon, daughter of the late Earl and Margaret (Binder) Britt. She was united in marriage to James R. Hanson on April 2, 1972. He preceded her in death in November 30, 2006. Shirley was a member of the Bad Axe High School Class of 1953. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the church choir for 25 years. She was a volunteer in the Shared Blessing church food pantry and also volunteered, for 24 years at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was also a member of the Thumb Rose Society. She enjoyed playing games and cards with her grandchildren and having her family visit so she could cook for them. Her homemade soups and pies will be greatly missed. Sister Francis Winifred was born in Detroit, Mich., to Frank and Winifred (McMahon) Schnell. Sister graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich. Sister spent 22 years ministering in education in Chicago, Ill.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Detroit, Mich., and West Palm Beach, Fla. She was Principal at Visitation from 1954 to 1961. Sister was a Social Worker at Our Lady of Sorrows in Detroit for two years, and Pastoral Minister for 15 years at St. Charles Borromeo in Detroit. She was Office Manager for 10 years at Luther Haven Nursing Home, and Secretary for four years at Harper Hospital, both in Detroit. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2003. Sister Francis Winifred is survived by a nephew, Paul Schnell of Detroit, Mich., and a niece, Janet Vekovious of Sterling Heights, Mich. Visitation took place Tuesday evening, April 7, 2009, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer in St. Catherine Chapel. THREE RIVERS — Lee Adrian Salisbury, age 79, of Three Rivers, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Mishawaka, Ind., on April 19, 1929, the third of 12 children born to Lewis and Alice (Colley) Salisbury. Lee was a carpenter by trade. He worked numerous jobs around the country as part of the Carpenter's Union. He had resided in Three Rivers the past two-and-a-half years, coming from Traverse City. Lee enjoyed restoring old furniture and had assisted many neighbors with their home repairs following his retirement. He also enjoyed cooking and was known for his home-made pies. Lee was married to Sharon DeTour on July 5, 1983, in Bangor, Maine. She survives along with five children, Samuel L. Vera Mae Pollitt, age 84, of Three Rivers, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo following a brief illness.  She was born in Flowerfield Township on July 18, 1924, the daughter of George and Esther (Horn) Bradford and was a lifetime resident of Three Rivers.  She worked at Miller’s Ice Cream Shop before graduating from Three Rivers High School in 1943.  She later worked at Vaughn’s Clothing in downtown Three Rivers.  Vera was married to Merle G. Pollitt on June 7, 1943, at Fort Benning, Ga.  Vera was a volunteer for the Commission on Aging. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2303; the Elkhart Moose Lodge #73; and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed travel, crocheting, card playing and dominoes in her spare time, but mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.  Vera is survived by three children and their spouses, Harold and Mary Sue Pollitt and Merle and Judith Pollitt Jr., both of Three Rivers, and Diane and Don Everson of Mendon;  seven grandchildren and their spouses, Sherri and John Rivers, Shannon and Karl Ruedger, Christine and Charles Yancey, Patricia and Craig MacFarlane, Matt and Gina Everson, Trisha and Randy Svoboda, and Curt Pollitt;  20 great-grandchildren;  two sisters, Marilyn  (Lou) Warner, and Norma Grubbs both of Three Rivers; one brother, Gerald (Kim) Bradford of Three Rivers; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle in 1986; and by three brothers and four sisters. He especially enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Brown, Bad Axe; three sons, David (Lennea) Brown, Bad Axe, Mark (Diane) Brown, Bad Axe and Matthew (Karen) Brown, Bad Axe; a daughter, Bonnie (Marc) Bridson, Bad Axe; eight grandchildren, Michael (Melissa) Brown, Tamara (Aaron) Talaski, Jonathan (Talisa) Brown, Christopher (Alissa) Brown, Jessica Brown, Nathan Brown and friend, Courtney Gilbert, Ashley (Paul II) Streussnig and Ryan Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Blake Talaski, Kaden Brown, Balie Talaski and Bradie Talaski. Services were held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. Rob Howe, pastor, officiated, with burial taking place in the Colfax Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Kaufman Funeral Home, Bad Axe.

William F. Barnard, age 96, of Sturgis, Mich., died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village, Sturgis, following a short illness. He was born June 2, 1912, in Holt, Mich., a son to Lyman William and Nettie D. (Peasley) Barnard. William graduated from Freemont High School in 1930, and attended the Western Michigan University for two years. William had been a resident in Sturgis for seven years, coming from White Pigeon, where he lived from 1941 to 2002. He also lived in Muskegon and early in life in Freemont. He was married to Ruth Cyphers and Blanche E. Stears who both preceded him in death. William was a farmer and employed by White Pigeon Paper Mill for 28 years in the receiving department, retiring in 1975. He was a school bus driver for White Pigeon during the Great Depression. William was a member of the White Pigeon United Methodist Church, the White Pigeon Lions Club, AARP and the White Pigeon Grange. Surviving are one son, William A. Barnard of Battle Creek; two stepdaughters, Janet (Bob) Davis of Arcadia, Fla., Joyce Newton of Detroit; one stepson, Robert (Evelyn) Stears of Constantine; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; two sons, John E. Barnard, David V. Barnard; grandson, Jeff Barnard; two brothers, Leonard and Edward Barnard; sister, Anna LaVance; step-great-grandson, Ethan Weathers. Visitation will be 10 a.m.- noon, Saturday at Farrand Funeral Home, White Pigeon, preceding the funeral at noon at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Pigeon United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.


 


 

William F. 'Bill' Mowrey

William F. “Bill” Mowrey, age 92, of Three Rivers, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Reynoldsville, Pa., a son of William Franklin and Catherine (Conrad) Mowrey. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army and later became a mechanic. He was member for many years of the Bethany Chapel and later the 9th Street Methodist Church. Mr. Mowrey was preceded in death by his wife, Fern; one daughter, Nancy Cunningham; one granddaughter, Paula Graves; one daughter-in-law, Joan Mowrey; two brothers; and three sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving companion of many years, Katheryn “Katie” Trattles of Three Rivers; one son, Ernest Mowrey, of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Joseph Adams, Gary John Adams, William F. Mowrey and Jodie Moore; 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, as well as one great-great-granddaughter, Madison. Private gravesides services will be held. A memorial service will be scheduled sometime in June. Memorials may be directed to Three Rivers Health Hospice. Envelopes available at the Hohner Funeral Home of ThreeRivers.

Hutter, William Carl "Bill" Bay City, Michigan Mr. Hutter passed away Monday evening, April 6, 2009 at Mid Michigan Medical Center in Midland, age 75 years. Funeral services are being planned for Saturday and a complete obituary will be announced in Thursday's edition of the paper. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m.


 


 

William J. Kriewall 1928-2009 William John Kriewall, 80, Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe. He was born on December 25, 1928 in Grosse Pointe to the late Paul and Amelia (Gerstenschlager) Kriewall. Bill and Kathryn Ganley were united in marriage on January 12, 1957 in Harbor Beach. Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Harbor Beach. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and sailed on the Great Lakes for four years after returning from the service. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach, a member of the Harbor Beach Conservation Club and the Harbor Beach Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing with his grandchildren and hanging out with his deer hunting family. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, Harbor Beach; children, John (Ruth) Kriewall, Harbor Beach and Jan (Jim) Adler, Ruth; five grandchildren, Andrea Kriewall, Harbor Beach, Aaron Kriewall, HarborBeach, Jeff Adler, Bad Axe, Brad Adler, Rochester Hills and Renee Adler, Saginaw and three great-grandchildren, Paxton, Kacey and Caeden. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Paul and Lawrence Kriewall, Gertrude Kriewall, Dorothea Rodda, Ilene Moore and Evelyn Will. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Harbor Beach. Rev. Dave McCluskey officiated, with burial taking place in Rock Falls Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach.
