Anita Diana Evers, 46, of Reading, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. Born July 18, 1962, she was the daughter of Luis and Diana (Lambos) Zonta. Anita attended Lake Central High School and graduated from Morton High School, both in Indiana. She furthered her education at the Indiana College of Commerce and was employed at Jesco Industries in Litchfield. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and was known to have open ears for listening to others' problems. On Jan. 10, 1986, she married Del Evers and he survives along with one daughter, Melissa (Brent) Midtgard of Montgomery; father, Luis Zonta of Indiana; sister, Angela Zonta of Florida; brother, Jim Zonta of Florida; nine grandchildren, including two grandchildren they were raising, Sarah Magley and Cody Vitek, of Reading. Her mother and grandmother preceded her in death. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Cambria Cemetery #2 with Pastor Don Harkey officiating. Audrey J. Phillips 1923-2009 Audrey Jessie Phillips, 85, Sebewaing, died Monday, March 30, 2009 in Bay Regional Medical Center, Bay City. She was born May 29, 1923 in Ontario, Canada to Albert and Jessie (Thomson) Miller. She married Donald R. Phillips on January 7, 1943 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2003. Audrey retired from Caro Regional Center after many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and many of their church organizations. When Audrey was young and they first moved to the Sebewaing area, she enjoyed deer and duck hunting and spending time outside. Audrey enjoyed reading and visiting the library. She enjoyed quilting, traveling and playing the organ. She was a pet lover and took in many stray cats. She is survived by her children, Albert Phillips, Sebewaing, Holly (Steven) Bickham, Essexville and Dave (Sherry) Phillips, Fla.; grandchildren, Rebecca (Vincent) Neal, Stephen Richmond, Eric Richmond, Matthew Bickham, Mackenzie Bickham, Keri (David) Miller, Jason (Barbara) Phillips, Christopher (Jennifer) Phillips, Troy (Crystal) Phillips and Daniel Phillips; great grandchildren, Logan, Kelsey, Lana, Blake, Miley Sue and Shayna; sister, Barbara (Bud) Cruickshank, Beaver Island and several nieces and nephews. of Toledo died April 8, 2009. Father Bayne was born January 11, 1918, the son of David C. and Myrtle (Murray) Bayne of Detroit, Michigan. He attended Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, entered the Society of Jesus in 1941, was ordained in 1952, and professed his final vows in 1961. Father Bayne earned his A.B. degree in 1939 from the University of Detroit, his M.A. in 1947 from Loyola University, an LL.B. in 1947 and an LL.M. in 1948 from Georgetown University, his S.J.D. (Doctor of Juridical Science) from Yale University in 1949, and his Licentiate in Sacred Theology in 1953 from West Baden College. Father Bayne served the University of Detroit Law School as a faculty member, then as its Dean, from 1958-1960. He then taught at St. Louis University Law School and for over 25 years as a Professor of Law at the University of Iowa College of Law. He also taught at the University of Michigan Law School. Father Bayne was a pre-eminent authority in the fields of corporate control, securities regulation, and moral theology. He wrote several books, including Conscience, Obligation, and the Law (1966) and The Philosophy of Corporate Control (1986), and over 45 scholarly law-review articles, including his yet-to-be-published treatise on Insider Trading. Father Bayne was also active in corporate-control and securities litigation, often as counsel for plaintiffs, including the groundbreaking 1979 Rowen v. Le Mars Mutual Insurance Company, in which Father Bayne's theories on the fiduciary nature of corporate control were embraced by the Iowa Supreme Court. An inveterate world-traveler, Father Bayne visited countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, including three trips to the People's Republic of China and an extended trip in the former U.S.S.R. before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Father was predeceased by his parents and is survived by several cousins and many former students, colleagues, and close friends around the world. Father Bayne donated his body to science, and a memorial Mass in his honor will be celebrated at a later date. Bessie M. Spieth, 88, of Osseo, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  She was born Jan. 3, 1921, in Horton to Leon and Effie Belle (Town) Gleason.  She was married Sept. 1, 1979, to Loyal Spieth and he preceded her in death in 2000. Bessie was a former nurse’s aide at St. Paul’s and the T.B. Sanitarium in Jackson and Maple Lawn Facility in Hillsdale.  She retired from Jonesville Products.  She was a resident of Jackson prior to residing in Osseo, and a member of the Latter Day Saint’s of Jonesville. Surviving are six daughters, Lowanda (Harry) Bitner of Jackson, Tjuana (Harry) Horn of Bankers, Shela (Chris) Plunkett of Allentown, Pa., Brenda (Brad) Ruka of Holland, Serena (Ron) Sanders and Sara (James) Broughman, both of Hillsdale;  five sons, Darwin (Donna) Butler of Osseo, Byron (Tashia) Myers of Hillsdale Alton (Diane) Worth of Hillsdale, Richard (Sandy) Spieth of Petersburg, Mich., and Jack Spieth of Hillsdale; sister, Georgia Pettit of Arizona.  There are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Bessie Spieth will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. Daniel Pann officiating.  Interment will follow at Roseland Memorial Gardens in Jackson. Betty A. Roy, age 79, of Colon, Mich., went home with the angels on April 8, 2009.  She was born on Sept. 16, 1929, in Marion, Ind., to Parke and Louise (Jackson) Fawkes. She graduated from Three Rivers High School and worked at Ross Labs for many years. On May 18, 1968, she married Emil B. Roy, and they made their home in Colon. Surviving are a daughter, Michele Fields, and a grandson, Kurt Fields; nieces Billie Washburn, Kris (Don) Stephens and Cindy Elliott; a nephew, Steven (Tonya) Shoemaker; and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Leatrice Shoemaker. Beverly Ann Abbott, age 73, of Wauseon, Ohio, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, after a short illness. She was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Grand Ledge, Mich., to Royal and Goldie (Youtzy) Stahl. On April 25, 1952, she married Leland Dewayne Abbott and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1997. Beverly retired from Peter’s Stamping Company in Fayette, Ohio. Beverly loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at her Northern Michigan cabin. She is survived by three sons, Leland Wade (Penny) Abbott of Delta, David (Sue) Abbott of West Unity, and Brian (Chris) Abbott of Wauseon; three daughters, Pamela (David) Esterline of Weston, Gail (Joe) Ramos of Wauseon, and Wendy (Michael) Garcia of Adrian; one sister, Sharon (Richard) Bice; 13 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Josephine Aldrich and Shirley Thornsbury; grandchildren, Kristopher Whipple and Laurie Abbott; and her beloved dog, Jenny. Celia Marie Winkleblack, age 86, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Three Rivers Health. She was born April 16, 1922, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Albert and Leona (Bachar) Pierucki. Celia had resided in Sturgis all of her life, and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1942. On June 26, 1943, she married Kenneth Winkleblack at Holy Angels Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1998. Celia retired from Sturgis Newport after 25 years of employment and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355 Ladies Auxiliary, and a past president of the Nueman-Wenzel American Legion Post #73 Auxiliary. Surviving are one daughter, Shirley (Charles) Potter of Sturgis; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Thomas M. Winkleblack; and two brothers, Carl Pierucki and Albert Pierucki Jr. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Charles Frederick Kline, 84, of Midland, Mich., passed away March 21, 2009, at Brookdale Senior Living in Midland. He was born May 7, 1924 in Litchfield to the late Dr. Fred and Hilda (Smith) Kline. He married Lois Brown of Midland on May 29, 1954, who predeceased him. Mr. Kline graduated as valedictorian from Litchfield High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1943 through June 1946 as an ensign. Upon his discharge he attended Hillsdale College where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. During college he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He then entered the University of Pennsylvania obtaining his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton Graduate School of Business. He retired from Dow Chemical Co., of Midland after a long career in industrial management. As a young man he was very active in 4-H. He raised and exhibited livestock at a local county fair. His love of fairs and livestock continued throughout his life. As an adult he owned harness race horses, which competed at fairs and tracks throughout the Midwest and Canada. He served as harness racing secretary for the Midland County Fair from 1958-2008. He also served as director and president of the Board of Directors for the Northern Michigan Fairs and Racing Association. In 2007, Charlie Kline was inducted into the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame. Mr. Kline had a strong desire to promote education. He was an avid supporter of Hillsdale College giving support to various areas within the college, including sponsorship of the Charles F. Kline Chair of History and Management, which is currently held by Burton Fulsom, author of “The Myth of the Robber Barons.”  He is also a member of the college’s President’s Club. He is survived by two sisters, Harriet (Ellwood) Janney of Ottawa Hills, Ohio, and Jane (Dr. James) Roberts of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kline of Hillsdale; 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, James C. Kline and Thomas P. Kline. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 3 at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., in Midland. Interment will be June 4 in Litchfield at the Mt. Hope Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon following at Hillsdale College. Dave and Pam (Knight) were married on August 17, 1985 in Birch Run, Michigan. Dave was a member of the Birch Run Moose Lodge #2426 and was employed by Materials-Levy Corporation of Saginaw. In addition to spending time with his family, Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the woods. He is survived by his wife; Pam, his children; Shane and Kristal, all of Reese, his mother; Wanda, one sister; Connie (John) Bowerman all of Deckerville, one brother; Greg (Brenda) David of Saginaw, one sister-in-law; Julie Davis of Deckerville, mother-in-law; Elaine Knight, one brother-in-law; Mark (Kheila) Knight, all of Birch Run. In addition to his immediate family he is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Dennis W. Wesse, age 59, of White Pigeon, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Valley View Health Care in Elkhart, Ind., following a short illness. Dennis was born May 12, 1949, the Three Rivers, a son of Harold and Juanita (Schultz) Wesse. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam. On Oct. 5, 1984, he married Linda Hurst in Constantine. He resided in White Pigeon most of his life and was a truck driver. Dennis was a member of Swartz-VanFleet Post #138 American Legion of White Pigeon, the Heritage Trail Chapter #2155 Harley Owners Group of Sturgis. Surviving are his wife, Linda Wesse of White Pigeon; one daughter, Deb Lawrence; three sons, Jason Hurst, Shane and Mike Wilbur; two granddaughters, Taylor Lawrence and Abbigale Wilbur; parents, Harold and Juanita Wesse; two sisters, Donna Hendricks and Marsha Chapman; one brother, Marty Wesse; Uncle Art; three aunts, Maggie, Loraine and Rosemary; several nieces and nephews; 168 sisters and brothers of the H.O.G.  Chapter #2155. Donald E. Miller, age 79, of Adrian, went to be with the Lord, April 10, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 25, 1929, in Fayette, Ohio, the son of George E. and Lena M. (Mull) Miller. Donald graduated from Zone School in Franklin, Twp., Ohio, in 1946. He served in the 315th Army Engineers during the Korean War. On Jan. 15, 1952, in Angola, Ind., he married Barbara Willnow and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1. 1998. He married Lorene Connin-Neifer on Oct. 23, 1998, in Angola, Ind., and she survives. Donald retired from Brazeway Inc. in 1991 after 38 years as a Senior Prototype Development Engineer. Donald was a member of Bethany Assembly of God Church in Adrian. He is survived by two sons, Steven Miller of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kevin Miller of Jackson; twin daughters, Debra Kozumplik of Adrian and Sally Earles of Manitou Beach; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one stepson, Kevin (Donna) Neifer of Wauseon; two stepdaughters, Kim (Tom) Lind of Delta and Jodi (Mike) Krochalis of Denver; nine stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. Dorris Marilyn (Stoll) King, of Sarasota, Florida formerly of North Adams, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009. She was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Wakarusa, Ind., the daughter of Warren and Mary (Martin) Bechtel. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Stoll; two sisters and one step granddaughter. She is survived by her husband, Glen King of Sarasota, Fla.; four children, Dean (Sarah) Stoll of Harlan, Ind., Gloria (Roland) Miller of Boone, N.C., Rose (Ken) Wilson of Nixa, Mo. and Ronald (Joy) Stoll of North Adams; three stepchildren, David (Rebecca) King of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Lyle (Miriam) Kreider of Sarasota, Fla. and Darrell (Sherill) Hostetter of Lancaster, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Luann Lambright of Houston, Texas and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. King was a graduate of Hillsdale College where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. She attended the Ashton Mennonite Church in Sarasota, Florida and she was a member of the Christian Writers Association. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Dorris Marilyn King will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 11 with Pastor Dean Stoll and Pastor Don Stoll officiating. Edward "Barney" F. Schubring 1929-2009 Edward "Barney" Schubring, 79, Port Hope, passed away April 1, 2009 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born on September 2, 1929 in Port Hope to the late Edward and Martha (Zick) Schubring. Barney and Annabelle Thrusman were united in marriage on December 6, 1952 in Port Hope. Barney was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope. He was a musician for over 50 years, playing in many bands including the Barney Schubring Trio where he was a recording artist and radio personality. He was inducted into the Michigan Country Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a bus driver for the Port Hope Community Schools for 50 years, a member of the Huron Intermediate School District Board for 34 years and enjoyed farming. He is survived by his wife, Anne, Port Hope; his son, Steven (Debra) Schubring, Port Hope; granddaughter, Breann Schubring; four step-grandchildren, Jason, Trista, Season and Brandon; ten step-great-grandchildren and sisters,Norma (Ernie) Callender, West Bloomfield, Elaine (Arnold) Brown, Port Hope and Irene (Emerson) Pilaske, Port Hope. He was preceded in death by a sister, Esther and brother-in-law, Kenneth Iseler. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 in St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope. Rev. Eileen was born on Nov. 7, 1938, in Washtenaw County, and was married on Nov. 10, 1956, to Thomas Mutter. She worked as a mail carrier for the Palmyra Post Office for 28 years, retiring in 2000. Eileen enjoyed working on puzzles and watching her grandsons in their various activities. Surviving is her husband, Tom Mutter of Palmyra; two sons, Dave (Jane) Mutter of Palmyra and Doug (Melissa) Mutter of LaSalle, Mich.; and five grandsons, Michael Melvin, Andrew Mutter, Aaron Mutter, Adam Mutter and Alex Mutter. Eileen was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Mae Ludman; sister, Mary McClure;, brother, Charles Rose; and special grandson, Mathew Mutter. He served in the Army during World War II. Guy M. Cox, cherished husband, dedicated father, and doting grandpa passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2009 at Bixby Medical Center, Adrian. Guy was born on Feb. 6, 1927 in North Adams to Charles Roscoe Cox and Hazel Beth Ann Reynolds Cox. He and his four brothers attended and graduated from Addison Community Schools. Guy entered the United States Navy in 1944 to serve aboard an LSM 41. He was a Seaman 1st Class during World War II and participated in several campaigns in the Philippines and South Pacific. He was the ship Chaplain and Store Keeper. At the end of the War, he decommissioned his ship in Charleston, S. C. Guy has continued to stay in touch with his navy buddies at various naval reunions. He has enjoyed sharing his sea stories with friends and family. Throughout the years he has stayed in touch with best friend and shipmate, Harry Bryson of Columbus, Ohio. Upon his return to the states, Guy entered Adrian College to study in the pre-law program. He also became interested in a young woman, Juanita Mae Luce. Guy and Juanita were married on Dec. 11, 1954 at the Tipton Community Congregational Church, Tipton. Their marriage of more than 50 years has been filled with square dancing, a neighborhood euchre club, church bowling leagues and watching western movies. Guy was employed by the Tecumseh Products for 42 years. During his tenure there he was an active member of the Tecumseh Products Workers Union. He served as the secretary or president for almost 20 years. He fought for the rights of the workers and made many friends along the way. Guy has always been an active community member. He has been a Boy Scout leader, Tipton Community Congregational Church member and a member of the Moose and American Legion. His latest project was the Lenawee County Landlords Association where he served as treasurer. Guy expressed his adventurous spirit by flying his Piper J4E and riding his Indian motorcycle. He enjoyed giving rides to family. Guy loved family outings such as canoeing the Ausable River, sightseeing in the Colorado Mountains, and trips to Florida and Canada were high points for him. Guy is survived by son, Guy (Kris) Corwin Cox of Tecumseh; daughters, Connie (James) Morse of Tecumseh, Cathy (Mikkel) Gammeltoft of Tipton and Cynthia (Scott) Upton, of Spring, Texas; brothers, Burtus E. Cox and Charles Cox of North Adams; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert and Timothy; and brothers, Robert and Laverne. A celebration of Guy’s life will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Tecumseh with the Rev. Keith Porter and Pastor John Deuble officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Township Cemetery, Tipton, with military honors performed by U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team, Toledo, Ohio. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at J. H. Richard Bowen, age 91, of Adrian died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Toledo Hospital. He was born July 12, 1917, in Toledo, Ohio, to Henry M. and Edna B. (Laberdie) Bowen. Richard graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1935 and attended St. John’s University in Toledo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been employed by Mutual Benefit Life as an insurance salesman and certified life underwriter for 37 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he had served as an usher. Richard was a Lifetime Member of the Eagles, a member of American Legion Post #97, the Optimist Club, and several dance clubs in the Toledo area, worked on the YMCA Drives, and had been the first Campaign Chairman for United Way in 1953. Richard is survived by two sons, Richard M. Bowen of Lansing and Mark R. Bowen and his wife, Brenda, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Dorothy H. Furbush of  Anchorage, Alaska, and Cheryl Corr of DeWitt, Mich.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his special companion, partner and friend, Rita Szymczak of Toledo. Helen M. Chupp, age 90, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village. She was born March 20, 1919, in Warsaw, Ind., a daughter of the late J.C. and Inez (Whitacre) Kyle and has been a resident of Sturgis since 1977, moving here from Warsaw. On Dec. 28, 1934, in Warsaw, she married Irvin Frey. This marriage ended in divorce. On Dec 11, 1955, she married Harvey S. Chupp in Elkhart, Ind.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1961. Helen had been employed for several restaurants including the Chicken Coop and Murphy Mart in Sturgis and also in Warsaw and Goshen, Ind.  She was also a homemaker and enjoyed playing Yahtzee. Jerry (Jerrold) D. Osbon, age 78, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Fairview Living Centre in Centreville. He was born Nov. 28, 1930, in Sturgis, a son to the late George and Anna (Schragg) Osbon and has been a resident of the Sturgis area all of his life. On March 10, 1951, he married Virginia Rice in Angola, Ind. He had been employed by CTS which is now Syndicate Store Fixtures in Middlebury, Ind., retiring in 1992.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. Surviving are his wife, Virginia; two sons, David Lewis Osbon of White Pigeon and Charles Duane Osbon of Sturgis; one daughter, Barbara Jean Osbon of Sturgis; a step-daughter, Brenda May Leonard of Sturgis; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Billie Jean Osbon of Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his parents. According to his wishes there will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place. Juanita Gertrude Loveland, age 87, of Adrian passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Lynwood Manor. She was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Adrian, to Fred and Ella (Fridel) Fetzer.  She was married to Robert Loveland on Dec. 5, 1942. He preceded her in death in June 1987.  Juanita retired from Shopper’s Fair in 1977. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren. Juanita is survived by two sons, Jerry Loveland and his wife, Dee, of Adrian and Danny Loveland and his wife, Diane, of Adrian; a daughter, Carole Cheney of Adrian; a brother, Darold Fetzer, and his wife, Betty, of Adrian; one sister, Marian Ladd of Adrian; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Loveland, Jr.; four brothers, Cecil, Bernard, Gordon  and Wayne Fetzer; two sisters, Muriel Swick and Blanche Brodrick; and one grandchild, Jerry Wayne. Lee Adrian Salisbury, age 79, of Three Rivers, Mich., died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.  He was born on April 19, 1929, in Mishawaka, Ind., the third of 12 children born to Lewis and Alice (Colley) Salisbury.  Lee was a carpenter by trade.  He worked numerous jobs around the country as part of the Carpenter’s Union.  He has resided in Three Rivers the past two and a half years, coming from Traverse City.  Lee enjoyed restoring old furniture, and had assisted many neighbors with their home repairs following his retirement. He also enjoyed cooking, and was known for his homemade pies.  Lee was married to Sharon DeTour on July 5, 1983, in Bangor, Maine.  She survives, along with five children, Samuel L. Salisbury of St. Charles, Mo., Patti Wilfong of Tulsa, Okla., Jennifer Miller of Anza, Calif., Karin Jo Richardson of Arizona, and Jayne Palmer of  Detroit; two stepdaughters, Melissa Wilson (Jesse Salisbury) of Three Rivers and Lynn Wilson (Kathy Hueffman) of Nashua, N.H.; 10 grandchildren, Margaret, Curtis, Sara, Fatima, Zahra, Taylor, Janell, Trevor, Daniel and Jacob; and one great-grandchild, Jacob; 10 siblings and their spouses, Joyce Kenny of Elkhart, Mary Lou and Eldon Ferm of Elkhart, Ind., Michael and Alice Salisbury of Constantine, Lynn Salisbury of Kalamazoo, John and Janet Salisbury of White Pigeon, Susan Ferguson of Sturgis, Nancy McFall of White Pigeon, Tom Salisbury of White Pigeon, Holly and Jim Hunter of White Pigeon, and Marty and Linda Salisbury of Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clifton Salisbury; a daughter-in-law, Karen (Shotwell) Salisbury  and a grandson, Ryan Murphy. Leeman R. “Lee” Wilson, 69, of Jonesville passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Hillsdale Community Health Center. He was born Sept. 28, 1939 in Rollin to Leland C. and Ethel V. (Renner) Wilson. He was married June 1, 1962 to Julia Smith and she preceded him in death in 1994. He was married Dec. 5, 1998 to Sherryl Johnson Glowe and she survives. Lee was a U.S. Navy Veteran 3rd Class Petty Officer, Pilot and Aviation Machinist. He retired in 1999 as a truck driver for L.J. Beal & Sons. He was a member of Teamsters Local 164 and the Teamsters Retiree Club of Jackson, a member and two-year past president of the Michigan Travel Trailer Club. Lee enjoyed bowling, fishing hunting and camping. Surviving besides his wife Sherryl are two daughters, LeAnn Wilson and Kimberly (Scott) Friess both of Cement City; a step son, Fred (Regina) Glowe of Jonesville; two sisters, Vickie (Larry) Taylor of Jonesville and Anne Johncox of Morenci; a brother, William (Betty) Wilson of Addison; and two grandchildren, Ashley Julia and Jordyn Ann Friess. Besides his first wife Julia, he was preceded in death by his parent; two sisters, Sheila Householder and Winona Wilson, and a brother-in-law Ronald Householder. Funeral services for Lee R. He was born March 30, 1941, in Hillsdale, the son of Roy and Ina (Petrie) Kimble. He is survived by his wife, Anna Kimble, whom he married on June 23, 1961. (Jennifer) Kimble of North Adams; one foster son, Erin (Jamie) Preston of Jerome; several grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lola (Richard) Mault of North Adams, Pauline Sheffer of Addison, Sharon Snodgrass of Jerome and Darlene (Larry) Case of North Adams; two brothers, LeRoy (Charlene) Kimble of Jasper and James (Garnet) Kimble of Jonesville; two half sisters, Ilene Pieffer of Osseo and Bernice Schmitz of Tecumseh; one aunt, Leona Petrie of Jonesville; three brothers-in-law, John McCracken of Hillsdale, Calvin Towe of Jonesville and Raymond Hardwick of Hillsdale, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. MYRTLE M. RHEAD LANSING Myrtle M. (Bopra) Rhead, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Lansing, Michigan. She was born November 3, 1924 in Carsonville, the daughter of Clair and Vera (Clark) Bopra. She graduated from Carsonville High School in 1942. During her working career she was employed by Ford Motor Company, Michigan Bell Telephone, Haffners Department Store and was a cook at Sandusky Community Schools. She served during World War II in the flight operations division of the United States Naval Air Station in Millington Tennessee. She married Kenneth A. Rhead on February 7, 1948 in Carsonville and resided most of her life in Sandusky. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Sanilac County Girls Scouts, Sandusky High School Band Boosters and served as a cub-scout leader. She was a member of the City of Sandusky Planning Commission, the Senior Citizen High Rise Commission, was Treasurer of the Sanilac County Republican Party and was Chairman of the Sanilac County Parks Commission. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth (1997), her daughter, Kristy Anne Campbell (2004) and two sisters Hazel (1920) and Betty Lou Rumble (2007). She is survived by three children; Kim (Margaret) Rhead of Holt, Kerry (Robert) Mason of Kendallville, Indiana and Gerald (Heather) Rhead of East Lansing, one son-in-law; Jerry Campbell of Kendallville, Indiana, two brothers; William Bopra of Croswell, Gene Bopra of Sandusky, two sisters; Marjorie (Robert) O'Connell of Carsonville and Marion (Douglas) Kenny of Deckerville, twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Marie Ayling, age 95, formerly of Adrian, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Battle Creek. Marie was born Aug. 9, 1913, in Tawas, Mich., the daughter of Oscar and Selma (Larson) Alstrom. After graduating from East Tawas High School, she attended Normal School. In 1946 Marie married Adrian Ayling in Jackson. He preceded her in death in 1964. Marie worked for the Iosco County Treasurer’s Office and Iosco County Road Commission. She also worked as a bookkeeper for St. Joseph Academy in Adrian for several years. Marie was a charter member of Christ The Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was active in Lutheran Church Women United, holding several offices in that organization. She was also a member of Adrian Business and Professional Women and Adrian Woman’s Club.  Marie is survived by her daughter, Ellen Steudle of Battle Creek; stepdaughter, Loretta Sailors of Grand Rapids; a sister, Louise (Richard) Harwood of East Tawas; two grandchildren, Emily (Aaron) Hoiles and Jacob (Erin) Steudle; and three great-grandchildren, Jalen, Kyan and Ionie Steudle. Also surviving are six very special nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Alstrom; a brother, Kenneth Alstrom; and a stepson, Raymond Ayling. The funeral service for Marie will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Christ The Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rich Rentner officiating. Burial will be private. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Stephen Fillion, pastor of the St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery., Arrangements were handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. |

Camp on May 17, 1989 in Marshall. He was a lifetime resident of the Marshall and Tekonsha area. He was the owner of Dixie Choppers and the manager of Shelby’s Lounge, both located in Tekonsha, and he had worked at Trim Parts in Marshall. Michael is survived by his wife Janet; his children Stacy (Eric) Phelps, Cortney Woods and Benjamin Johnson, all of Tekonsha and Jessica Johnson of Chicago; special granddaughters Alexis, Autumn, Aislynn and Ambrielle “Gracie;” his mother Shelby Feltner Sadger of Tekonsha, father Sherman Woods of Hyden, Kent. and sisters Barb (Alfred) Marshall and Mary Davis and brother Bud (Patti) Woods, all of Tekonsha. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, shooting trap, and he was an avid Harley rider. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at Putnam’s of Tekonsha. Pastor Luke D. Yoder 1929-2009 Pastor Luke D. Yoder, Pigeon, 79, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Country Gardens in Pigeon following a six-month illness with ALS. He was born November 24, 1929 in Greenwood, Del., son of the late David S. and Savilla (Bender) Yoder, and twin brother of Mark B. Yoder. He was united in marriage to Cora Mae Maust on December 28, 1949 in Pigeon. Luke served as minister and overseer of the Pigeon River Mennonite Church for over 40 years. He also served as a board member for Rosedale Mennonite Missions, Conservative Mennonite Conference, Eastern Mennonite University, and the Mennonite Church. He earned his living as a farmer, owning and operating Yoder Farms on South Bay Port Rd. Luke believed in the importance of family, church, generosity, and grace. She was born June 16, 1934, in Eau Claire, Wis., a daughter of the late Theodore and Violet (Knecht) Burns. Patricia had been a resident of Sturgis since 1971, moving here from Detroit. On Oct. 18, 1958 she married Paul O. Sorko-Ram in St. Paul, Minn. He preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1995. She was a homemaker and also worked for Ram Products for a few years. She was a member of the Victory Chapel and was an accomplished pianist and composer of music having graduated from a music school in St. Paul. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley J. Hanson 1935-2009 Shirley J. Hanson, 73, Bad Axe, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2009 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born on April 14, 1935 in Pigeon, daughter of the late Earl and Margaret (Binder) Britt. She was united in marriage to James R. Hanson on April 2, 1972. He preceded her in death in November 30, 2006. Shirley was a member of the Bad Axe High School Class of 1953. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the church choir for 25 years. She was a volunteer in the Shared Blessing church food pantry and also volunteered, for 24 years at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was also a member of the Thumb Rose Society. She enjoyed playing games and cards with her grandchildren and having her family visit so she could cook for them. Her homemade soups and pies will be greatly missed. She is survived by four sons, Dale (Cathy) Bannick, Bay City, Dean (Joyce) Bannick, Bay City, David Bannick, Bad Axe and Dennis (Tammy) Bannick, St. Pauls, N.C.; step-son, James A. Hanson, Filion; step-daughter, LaDona (Larry) Carder, Fort Gratiot; sister, Carrol O'Brien, Jefferson, Ind.; sister-in-law, Harriet Britt, Bad Axe; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Britt; a brother, Kenneth Britt; a stepson, Joseph Hanson; a half-sister, Etta Sturm and two half-brothers, Harold and LaVern Britt. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. Rob Howe, pastor, will officiate, with burial taking place in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Arrangements were handled by the Kaufman Funeral Home, Bad Axe. |

KIMMEL, Vivian J. - Age 74, died at the Grand Blanc Nursing and Rehabilatation Center on Friday, April 10, 2009. Vivian was born in Flint on May 30, 1934, the daughter of Arthur and Ernestine (Taylor) Pearson. Mrs. Kimmel was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She had been employed by Big John Steak & Onion for 10 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving is her husband, Jack; son, Dennis Anderson and wife Eileen; granddaughter, Kristi Williams and husband Joe; great-granddaughter, Seinna Williams; grandson, Dennis Anderson; daughter, Wendy Cummings; granddaughter, Angelia Ruggles and husband Paul; great-granddaughter, Courtney Ruggles; great-grandson, Nicholas Ruggles; granddaughter, Tresa Hall and husband Steve; great-granddaughter, Brooke Hall; grandson, William (Billy) Sullivan; son, Edward Anderson and wife Beth; and granddaughter, Rebecca Anderson. Services will be 2 P.M. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Bethel Baptist Church 4494 N. Linden Rd., Pastor Walt Rose will officiate. Wilburt J. Brown 1931-2009 Wilburt J. Brown, 77, Bad Axe, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at his home in Bad Axe. He was born on April 16, 1931 in Bad Axe, son of the late William Earl and Rachel (Smith) Brown. He married Mary Ann Trepkowski on June 22, 1957 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. Wilburt worked for Michigan Bell nearly 30 years. He was a member of Bad Axe High School Class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Army. He especially enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. William F. Barnard, age 96, of Sturgis, Mich., died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village, Sturgis, following a short illness. He was born June 2, 1912, in Holt, Mich., a son to Lyman William and Nettie D. (Peasley) Barnard. William graduated from Freemont High School in 1930, and attended the Western Michigan University for two years. William had been a resident in Sturgis for seven years, coming from White Pigeon, where he lived from 1941 to 2002. He also lived in Muskegon and early in life in Freemont. He was married to Ruth Cyphers and Blanche E. Stears who both preceded him in death. William was a farmer and employed by White Pigeon Paper Mill for 28 years in the receiving department, retiring in 1975. He was a school bus driver for White Pigeon during the Great Depression. William was a member of the White Pigeon United Methodist Church, the White Pigeon Lions Club, AARP and the White Pigeon Grange. Surviving are one son, William A. Barnard of Battle Creek; two stepdaughters, Janet (Bob) Davis of Arcadia, Fla., Joyce Newton of Detroit; one stepson, Robert (Evelyn) Stears of Constantine; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; two sons, John E. Barnard, David V. Barnard; grandson, Jeff Barnard; two brothers, Leonard and Edward Barnard; sister, Anna LaVance; step-great-grandson, Ethan Weathers. Visitation will be 10 a.m.- noon, Saturday at Farrand Funeral Home, White Pigeon, preceding the funeral at noon at the funeral home. William J. Kriewall 1928-2009 William John Kriewall, 80, Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe. He was born on December 25, 1928 in Grosse Pointe to the late Paul and Amelia (Gerstenschlager) Kriewall. Bill and Kathryn Ganley were united in marriage on January 12, 1957 in Harbor Beach. Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Harbor Beach. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and sailed on the Great Lakes for four years after returning from the service. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach, a member of the Harbor Beach Conservation Club and the Harbor Beach Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing with his grandchildren and hanging out with his deer hunting family. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, Harbor Beach; children, John (Ruth) Kriewall, Harbor Beach and Jan (Jim) Adler, Ruth; five grandchildren, Andrea Kriewall, Harbor Beach, Aaron Kriewall, HarborBeach, Jeff Adler, Bad Axe, Brad Adler, Rochester Hills and Renee Adler, Saginaw and three great-grandchildren, Paxton, Kacey and Caeden. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Paul and Lawrence Kriewall, Gertrude Kriewall, Dorothea Rodda, Ilene Moore and Evelyn Will. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Harbor Beach. Rev. Dave McCluskey officiated, with burial taking place in Rock Falls Cemetery.
