ALBIN "AL" J. PIERSON MINDEN CITY Albin "Al" J. Pierson, age 73, of Minden City, passed away Thursday night, June 11, 2009 at his daughters residence in Deckerville under hospice care. Al was born on August 17, 1935 in St. Johns, Michigan to the late John Albin and Anna Marie (Estes) Pierson. He married Valerie Savage on January 12, 1957 at Trinity Methodist Church in Owosso. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Al was a member of the Sanilac County Sheriff Posse for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the St. Johns and Ruth VFW Posts, a 4-H leader for the Palms Country Club 4-H Club and he enjoyed his coffee, horse shows, camping, fishing and recruiting kids for 4-H. Al is survived by his wife of 52 years, Valerie Pierson of Minden City; four sons, Gerald (Rose) Pierson of Deckerville, Ward (Carla) Pierson of Deckerville, Mike (Nicole) Pierson of Minden City, Keith (Jane) Pierson of Minden City; one daughter, Deann Asher and Don McFarlane of Deckerville; special family friend, Thomas Clor; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Pierson and Carl Pierson; two sisters, Helen Woods and Eloise Gifford. The funeral service was held at the Deckerville United Methodist Church in Deckerville with Pastor John Rapson of the Deckerville United Methodist Church officiating. ANNABELL MCCREADY MARLETTE Annabell McCready, age 74, of Marlette, Flynn Township, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Marlette Regional Hospital-Hospice Residence. She was born July 25, 1934 in Kingston, Michigan daughter to the late Paul and Rose Polishuk. She married Erwin McCready April 15, 1952 in Marlette. Annabell enjoyed quilting, cooking, music, singing, dancing and most of all, her family. She was a long time member of the Fellowship Bible Church. She is survived by her husband, Erwin of 56 years; one son, Marlow (Cindy) McCready of Melvin; five daughters, Jane (Guy) Koyl of Fostoria, Jeanette (Larry) Nason of Brown City, Marlene Hill & Ron Wood of Brown City, Shirley (William) Cilk of Marlette and Sherry (Robin) Ryder of Brown City; one brother, Joe (Barb) Polishuk of Cass City; sister, Jennie (Paul) Christensen of Marlette and twin sister, Isabell Blatt of Port Huron; sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Betty Jean (Young) Bueter peacefully went home to her Lord and Savior on June 15, 2009, at Thurston Woods Nursing Center. Since 2002, Betty had been a resident of Thurston Woods Village where she has many friends among staff and residents. She was born in Muncie, Ind., on Feb. 17, 1924, to Alva Hugh and Gertrude Erwin (Crawford) Young. Betty graduated from Elkhart (Ind.) High School in 1942 and Englewood (Ill.) Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She worked 25 years in the nursing profession. On Jan. 26, 1946, she married John Francis Bueter. They had four children: Cynthia Heffner; Rebecca Mulkey; Barbara Bueter; and David Bueter. Moving to Arizona in 1963, she lived there until 1984, one year after her husband died. She enjoyed sewing, restoring antique furniture, collecting jewelry, reading, and working crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; three sisters, Emma Elizabeth Torrence, Helen Amelia Mitchell, and Mary Louise Bowman; and a grandson, Andrew Gigax. Surviving are three grandsons, all named Michael! Michael Bernard, son of Cynthia; Michael Bueter, son of David; and Michael Ahlgren, stepson of Barbara. Also her niece, Linda (James) McKenzie; her nephew, Robert Mitchell; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Third Order Carmelites, following the way of life of St. Theresa of Avila, in fraternity in Harrisburg, Pa., and later became an isolate in Michigan. She was very proud to be a lay volunteer with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Gallup, N.M. during the late 1980s and was a past volunteer in jail ministry in Michigan and Pennsylvania. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon, Mich. A visitation will be held at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, MI 49091, from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, where a Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m.  A Catholic Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Richard Altine of Holy Angels Church, Sturgis, at 11 a.m. Friday. She will then be buried in St. Joseph Church cemetery in White Pigeon, Mich.   Memorial donations may be directed to the Missionaries of Charity. Betty was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker and had done housekeeping for several business executives in the Hillsdale area. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Osseo and truly enjoyed raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Laura Childers of Hillsdale, Darlene Swihart of Sturgis and Kitty (Ernie) Miller of Elkhart, Ind.; three sons, Charles (Linda) Spahr of Cypress, Texas, Anthony (Jeanne) Spahr of Sturgis and Jeffery (Judy) Spahr of Houston, Texas; 32 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Harold) Boyd of Urbana, Ohio and Katie Louth of Van Wert, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Carol Masters, 65, of Hudson and formerly of Waldron, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at her home. She was born Feb. 28, 1944, in Bryan, Ohio to Rex and Grace (Sommers) Rininger. She was married Oct. 20, 1962, to Richard Masters and he preceded her in death in 1998. Carol was a member of the First Church of Christ, Waldron. She was a member of the Waldron Pythian Sisters Temple 74, serving as Michigan Grand Chief in 1995. Carol was a board member of the Waldron District Library. She worked as a secretary at Dana Corporation in the early 1970s. She had recently worked as a cook at Madden House for the Dominican Sisters in Adrian, retiring in 2008. Carol enjoyed family gatherings with her nieces and nephews, cooking for others and volunteering for various activities in the Waldron area. Survivors include three sons, Stanley (Alysia) Masters of Blissfield, Steven (Angela) Masters of Waldron and Michael (Jennifer) Masters of Hillsdale; 10 grandchildren: Alexis, Fletcher, Ethan, Elizabeth, Madeline, Aubrey, Elayna, Gabriel, Lincoln and Maverick; siblings, Deane (Kelly) Rininger of Standarsville, Va, Leroy (Betty) Rininger of Camden and Belinda (Chick) Campanella of Williams, Ariz. Charles Edward Paulsen, age 74, of Pittsford passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, June 17, 2009, at the Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. He was born April 5, 1935, at Clayton, Mich., the son of Edward and Dorothy (Butts) Paulsen. He lived all his life in Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, Mich., and was a graduate of Addison High School, Class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army and married the former Jo Nell Crisp on June 23, 1957, at the Wheatland Congregational Church. She survives. He was an employee of the former Addison Products Company and also was engaged in farming. He then attended Jackson Community College where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Social Work. He was then employed as a Child Care Worker at the Maurice Spear Campus in Adrian since 1977.  Charles was a member of the Wheatland Congregational Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his family. Surviving, besides his wife, Jo, are their children, Jill Briggs of Hudson, Andrew (Angie) Paulsen of Pittsford, Peter (Gina) Paulsen of Chelsea and Pamela (Dan) Wonders of Pittsford; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and by his sisters, Barbara (James) Matthews of Addison, Jeannette (Gary) Deem of Adrian and Nadine (Steve) Southard of Lake Wales, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dan Paulsen, and his sister, Pat Leutz. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with the Rev. Clyde L. Wonders officiating. Cremation will follow. Tom was born May 17, 1948 to Mary and Paul Deanda. He grew up in Peck, Michigan with his sister, Linda and brothers, Dave, Bob and Chris. Tom married Cheryl Shaw on June 29, 1967. He then served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. Together, Tom and Cheryl had two children, Teresa and Phillip. He moved his family to Marietta, Georgia to attend Life Chiropractic College. He graduated with his doctorate in 1982 and established Deanda Chiropractic Clinic in Port Huron, Michigan in 1982. Tom's life passion was helping people through the natural healing of Chiropractic. Tom is survived by his children, Teresa Deanda of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Phillip (Rochelle) De Anda of Clyde, Michigan; his grandchildren, Phillip Jr., Ethan and Jillian Deanda. Dana Steven Horvath Sr., age 63, of White Pigeon, Mich., and formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, at his home when he lost his valiant fight with cancer. Dan was born in South Bend on March 3, 1946, a son of the late Steven J. and LaRayne A. (King ) Horvath. Dan graduated from Washington High School in South Bend and served in the U.S. Marines. He worked in the food industry for more than 40 years, serving as a regional manager at Clark Food Service in South Bend and previously  for O’Dells and Burger Chef Restaurants. Dan loved NASCAR, M.I.S. and Dale Earnhardt. He was a fantastic father, brother, uncle and friend to all. Surviving are his former wife, Judith Hutchinson of Three Mile Bay, N.Y.; sons Robert S. Horvath and Dana S. Horvath Jr. of White Pigeon; grandchildren Zoe, Xavier and Joel Remmo; sister Judith Cauffman of Mishawaka, Ind.; twin brother Donald S. Fay J. Anderson Lapeer Fay J. Anderson, 78, of Lapeer, passed away Saturday (July 13, 2009) at Lapeer Regional Hospital. Fay was born July 30, 1930, in Phoenix, Mich., the daughter of the late Matt and Lydia Miller. She later married Wesley Anderson on August 16, 1947 in Fulton, Mich. Fay was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Farmington and was a short story writer. She loved doing word searches, gardening, attending craft shows, looking at art, and enjoyed all animals. In her youth, she was quite the figure skater. Fay is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wesley; children, Lynn Crall, Janel Anderson, Wes Anderson, Sherri Osse and Matthew Anderson; sister, Grace Miller; grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, Aaron, Daniel and Evan; great-grandchildren, Graycie, Dominik and Alyssa; close friends, Orley Faletti and Rose Harris. She was born November 13, 1914 in Manchester, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Anthony and Annoitte (Pupka) Bielkie. She married Stanley Staskiewicz on January 19, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away June 1, 2000. Genevieve was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sandusky. She is survived by one daughter, Joanne (Richard) Schaffner of Port Sanilac; three sons, Donald (Kathy) Staskiewicz of Spring Lake, Robert (Debbie) Staskiewicz of Port Sanilac, Richard (Cindy) Staskiewicz of Wyoming; thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Bielkie, Wanda Fortushniak and Celia Novak; three brothers, Joseph, Edward and Zigmond Bielkie. Funeral Mass was held at the St. Joseph Church, Sandusky with Fr. Charlie Hammond, Sandusky officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Sandusky, Michigan. Glen “Gene” Fuller, age 85 of Mecosta, formerly of Jonesville, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 16, 2009.  He was born May 26, 1924, at home in North Adams to Glenn and Clara (Davis) Fuller.  Gene graduated from Litchfield High School in 1943.  He married June L. Burnett on May 6, 1945, in Mosherville where the young couple made their first home and Gene farmed and did carpentry work. They later moved to Jonesville where June and Gene lived for nearly 40 years. Gene was the supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at Hillsdale College where he worked for more than 15 years.  In 1981 Gene accepted a position as supervisor for HVAC at Ferris State University and moved to the Mecosta area. He retired over 20 years ago, but Gene has never really retired.  He owned and operated a popular small engine repair business out of his home. Gene was always an active member in the community in which he lived. He was the Past Master of Masonic Blue Lodge in Jonesville; he was Past Patron Vesper Chapter 329 O.E.S. and past president of Hillsdale Bowmen. Gene was a member of the Barryton Conservation Club; he held various offices in the Mosherville Grange; a former member of Grace Episcopal Church in Jonesville, and very dedicated and active member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Barryton. Gene loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and master fisherman.  He enjoyed camping and his hobby was restoring old John Deere Tractors. Gene will always be remembered as a good and kind man who was completely devoted to his wife, family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of a remarkable 64 years, June Fuller of Mecosta; five children, Nancy (Richard) Chase of West Bend, Wis., Linda (Hal) Ward of DeWitt, Robert (Karen) Fuller of Six Lakes, James (Becky Graham) Fuller of Reading, Mich., Stephen (Mike Frickman) Fuller of Plymouth; daughter-at-heart, Kelly Kielce of Elkhart, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother Duane (Jean) Fuller of Hillsdale; maternal aunt Wanetta Royston of Jonesville and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his in-laws, Bennett and Ellen Burnett, a brother, Robert Fuller and a sister, Lucille Bennett. Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20 at Faith United Methodist Church in Barryton with Pastor James Hulett officiating.  The family will greet friends on Friday, June 19 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.  Burial will be at the Mosherville Cemetery. HELEN M. WILLIAMS PORT SANILAC Helen M. Williams, age 92, of Port Sanilac, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Sanilac Medical Care Facility. She was born October 15, 1916 in Detroit, daughter of the late Alfred and Mary (Rupp) Nuffer. She and Robert W. Williams were married on September 8, 1933 in Detroit.. He died December 10, 2008. Helen graduated at the Southeastern High School in Detroit, and attended Wayne State University. She received a B.A. in nursing at Henry Ford Community College of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, it's Altar Guild and Women's Guild and sang in the choir. She was active in Project Blessing, the Red Cross and worked with Project Head Start. Surviving are two daughters, Judith (Ron) Strnad of Port Sanilac and Norma (Donald) Grimes of Harbor Beach; one son, Robert Lawrence 'Larry' Williams of Casco; three sisters, Gladys Sheill, Shirley Peppler and Esther Bentin; ten grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lexington with The Rev. Rick Schark officiating. Burial was in the Port Sanilac Cemetery. Helen Marie Frye, age 74, of Centreville, Mich., passed away  Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Three Rivers Health. She was born in Sturgis on June 23, 1934, a daughter of  Clayton and Anna (Edler) Melchi. Helen graduated from Sturgis High School in 1952 where she participated in cheerleading. On June 7, 1952, she married Wellington Frye in Sturgis. He preceded her in death in 1984. She worked as a waitress at E&K Restaurant in Centreville and previously at Rosie’s, Lowry’s, Sportsman's and Wesley’s restaurants. Helen loved to play bingo and work in her flower garden. She also enjoyed traveling, especially  to her cabin, Mexico and Las Vegas. Surviving are her daughters, Dianna (Richard) Gregory of Three Rivers and Debbie Graber of Constantine; sons Donald Frye of Centreville and Daniel Frye of Nottawa; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Elwood Gest and Richard (Theresa) Fry; and sister-in-law Marie Frye. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Chester and Eugene Melchi and sister Edith Gest. He graduated from Peck High School in 1946, where he was his class Valedictorian. He married Erma Lord August 22, 1953 in Bay City. She passed away March 3, 1998. He re-married Jean Lord July 10, 1994 in Sandusky. James founded & operated Sanilac Steel in Marlette from 1967 until his retirement in 2000. He also served on the Sanilac County Road Commission for many years. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, spending winters in Fountain Hills, Arizona and most of all, his family. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Sandusky; one son, James Jr. (Barbara) O'Morrow of Davison; one daughter, Susan (Gerard) Miller of Fenton; one stepson, Kenny (Becky) McCanham of Bad Axe; three stepdaughters, Cindy McCanham & fianc e Cliff of Peck, Brenda Alexander of Peck and Vicky (Roger) Elsholz of Sandusky; one sister, Aileen Johnston of Peck; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jerome A. "Jerry" Vogel 1929-2009 Jerome A. "Jerry" Vogel, 79, Rosebush, passed away at his home on Friday, June 12, 2009 surrounded by his family after a nine month battle with brain cancer. He was born on November 5, 1929 in Helena, son of George and Clara (Essenmacher) Vogel. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict. On August 23, 1958 he married Janice Fountain at St. Michael Catholic Church, Remus. He owned and operated Jerry's Transmission Service since 1970, first in Mt. Pleasant and later in Rosebush. He belonged to the American Legion 383 in Rosebush, of which he was Commander for the past 19 years. He was also a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Rosebush. Jerry enjoyed working in his yard and tending to his garden and fruit trees. He was fond of playing cards, polka music and attended many Sunday dances. But most of all he loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly. For the final time on Earth, Jon Raleigh Steffey, lovingly and gently kissed his "Little Princess" and, said, as he always did each time either of them left the house, "I love you! Be careful!" With contentment and joy in his spirit and soul, Jon said good-bye to his wife, Lorna Sue LaBelle-Steffey, on June 10, 2009. Jon was born to Mary Ellen and Robert Steffey (both deceased) on July 1, 1946, in Coldwater. He and Lorna (Sue) were married on Jan. 27, 1999, in Alexandria, Va., and, again, on July 30, 1999, in Coldwater. The couple lived joyfully in Alexandria, Va., before moving, permanently, to Wilmington, N.C. in 2004. During his life in Alexandria and Wilmington, Jon, ever-giving and humble, was deeply cherished and admired by his wife and many "families" – his neighborhood "families", his Home Depot "family" (where he was employed at the time of his death), and his Pine Valley Elementary School "family". Jon is survived by his wife, Lorna Sue Labelle-Steffey and his "sweet babies", "Bailey Boo" and "Hurley Too" all of Wilmington; Pam Lippert (sister), Holly Kelly and Becky Gonzalez (nieces) and Belicia Gonzalez (great-niece), Andrew and Jessica AcMoody (children), Greg Ware and Michelle Hulliberger (step-children), all of whom reside in Michigan. Lou Wanda (Guza) Armstead, 56, of Sheridan Township, died Friday Aug. 29, 2008 in Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe., She was born Feb. 21, 1952 in Cass City, daughter of William and Wanda (Billot) Kipp., She married Leon F. Guza in 1970 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Parisville. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1999., She is a graduate of Sandusky High School. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. She enjoyed cats, crafts, gardening, needle work, and visiting with family and friends., Lou Wanda is survived by two daughters, Jane Ann (David) Sadro of Ubly, and Theresa (Dan) Hill of Bad Axe; two sons, Eugene Guza of Bad Axe, and Leon Guza Jr. and Karan of Bad Axe; and nine grandchildren, Justin and Daniel Sadro, Sarah and Kelsey Hill, Sloan, Kelsie and Darian Gross, and Rayne and Sommer Guza. Lou Wanda also is survived by her parents, William and Wanda Kipp of Snover; one brother, Joseph (Sandy) Kipp of Marlette; and one sister, Betty (Dennis) Mausolf-Scharrer of Ruth., Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 3, 2008 in the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, with the Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Bad Axe officiating., Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday. Lucille M. Scoviac 1951-2009 Lucille Marie Scoviac, 57, Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at Bay Regional Medical Center, Bay City. She was born on October 31, 1951 in Detroit to the late Edward and Delores (DelPomo) Biniecki. Lucy and Kenneth Scoviac were united in marriage on July 22, 1972. She was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. She loved being with her grandchildren, going for bike rides and walks, working on crossword puzzles and going to the movies. Mary Lou Baldwin, 70 of Coldwater died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Laurels of Coldwater. A service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with visitation to be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment of ashes will be at Ft. Custer in Augusta, at a later date. Mary was born Sept. 14, 1938 in Coldwater to Leo and Juanita (Groves) Bercaw. She was married to Martin Cuyler and later married DeWayne Baldwin in 1993, who preceded her in death on March 29, 2005. Mrs. Baldwin was the head cook at the Angola Holiday Inn for many years, she had also worked at the 105 Lounge in Coldwater. Mary loved to play bingo and cook, she also enjoyed coaching her daughter’s softball teams in her younger years and coin collecting. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by both husbands and her brother, Merle “Leo” Bercaw. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy “Kasey” (Brad) Austin of Angola, Ind., her sister Betty Bercaw of Union City, grandson Tony Cuyler of Indiana and great-grandsons, Anthony Dawud Cuyler of Pleasant Lake, Ind. and Jacob Anthony Cuyler of Portage. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Mary Stoll, 60, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, June 13, 2009 after an eight-month fight with Leukemia. She was at home surrounded by both family and friends. Mary was born Jan. 22, 1949 in Washington, Ind. to David L. and Edith (Raber) Stoll of Jerome, who survive her. Mary is also survived by her loving husband of 40 years, the Rev. Donald Eugene Stoll; one daughter, Pamela Sue Stoll of Jerome; one son, Brian Eugene and Rebecca June Stoll of Jonesville; three beautiful grandchildren, Timothy Andrew Stoll (8 years old), Grace Rebecca Stoll (5 years old) and Jonathon David Stoll (2 years old); three brothers, Abraham and Rosemary Stoll of North Adams, Levi D. and Sondra Stoll of Jerome,  and David, Jr. and Lois Ann Stoll of Jonesville; six in-law families, John D. and Barbara Stoll, Zetta and Joe Lengacher, Delbert and Dorothy Stoll, Howard and Mary Stoll, Ruby and Paul Miller and Mary (Chuck) Stoll; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Stoll.            Mary gave her heart to Jesus as a young woman. She served along side her loving husband in the ministry for over 24 years. They served with Gospel Echoes Team Prison Ministry as part of the Family Ministry Team of Goshen, Indiana, Midland Mennonite Church, Midland, Michigan, Perryton Mennonite Church, Perryton, Texas and in many Prison Crusades with Gospel Express Evangelistic Team in South Carolina and Florida.            Mary was a member of Sunrise Chapel Mennonite Church in Harlan, Ind., and she spent much of her time in prayer for the family she loved and for anyone who would ask. Many people would stop her and Don on the street and ask them to pray for them, which she did, on the spot.       Mary was a cook and many would say a chef. She always shared her wonderful gift with everyone by baking pies, bread, cinnamon rolls, donuts and making candy for everyone at Christmas time. She never brought guests to the table and sent them away hungry. Many people were blessed at her table.         Mary will be missed by her family and friends. Now she is with the Lord singing in His beautiful choir in Heaven. Mary would have wanted everyone to remember her happy and smiling and sharing the love of Jesus Christ our Savior.         “My Jesus, My Savior, I know Thou art mine.”     A funeral service to honor the life of Mary Stoll will be held at the Bird Lake Wesleyan Missionary Church, (7228 S. Bird Lake Road in Osseo) on Tuesday, June 16 beginning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Lael Barkman and Pastor Dean Stoll officiating. Interment will follow in the Stoll Cemetery in Jerome,with Pastor Ed Graber officiating. Michael D. “Wolfie” Wolfinger, age 62, of Burr Oak, Mich., passed away Tuesday morning, June 16, 2009, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born May 29, 1947, in Coldwater, a son of Russell and Florence (Miner) Wolfinger.  He had been a resident of Burr Oak since 2000, moving there from Bronson. On July 27, 1971, he married Martha Kintigh in Coldwater. He was a detailer and a mechanic working several years for Dave Smith Pontiac in Sturgis and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and attending auctions, especially in Allen and Hillsdale. Surviving are his wife, Martha; four children, Ruby (Clayton) Walters of Colon, Mike (Joline) Wolfinger of Burr Oak, Missy (Rick) Nelson of Bronson and Billy (Cindy) Wolfinger of Union City; nine grandchildren, James, Shawna, Monica, Kendra, Branden, Adrian, Marissa, Austin and Dakota; five brothers, Keith Wolfinger of Colon, Don Wolfinger of Coldwater, Dale Wolfinger of Colon, Steve Wolfinger of Quincy and Leon Wolfinger of Sherwood; and his mother, Florence Wolfinger of Bronson. Mildred (Wilcox) Gezelman passed away Jan. 4, 2009, in Florida. She was born July 2, 1909, in Elmira, Mich. She graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1926. She retired from the Kroger Company offices. Her husband, Orris H. Gezelman, passed on in 1987. They lived most of their lives in Hillsdale County. They are survived by three children, Joyce Sayler of Hillsdale County, Major Allen D. (Bonnie) Gezelman (retired) of Lutz, Fla. and Claudette (Allan) Papich of St. Augustine, Fla. and by numerous grandchildren, etc. Mildred will be greatly missed and remembered by all. There will be a memorial service for her at Camden United Methodist Church, 205 Main St., Camden at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 4 with Pastor Mohr officiating, followed by lunch at the church. After that, there will be a gathering at the family farm. Burial will be at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 6 at Amboy Cemetery. |

Morris T. Cockerham 1929-2009 Morris T. Cockerham, 79, Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 in St. John Macomb Hospital, Warren. He was born on June 21, 1929 in Harrison Township, Knox County, Ind., son of Ethel Beach and the late Luther Cockerham. Morris was married to Hilda Ramonet in Erding, Germany in 1952. She preceded him in death in 1994. He was a retired employee of the City of Detroit and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Germany. He is survived by his children; Peter Ramonet, Roseville, Ronald Cockerham, Harbor Beach, Brenda Wichers, Warren, David Cockerham, Harbor Beach and Steven Cockerham, New Baltimore; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and five sisters, Melva, Annaive, Shirley, Nellie and Betty, all of Indiana. Opal Marie Benedict, 82, of Lake Linden, formerly of Jonesville and Quincy passed away Nov. 25, 2008 in Eustis, Fla., joining her husband of 55 years, Ellis LeRoy “Ben” Benedict, who passed in 1997. She was born February 28, 1926 to Nellie Metzger Huggett and Ira Elsworth Huggett in Litchfield. Opal spent most of her life in Jonesville, and with Ben, owned restaurants in Jonesville, Coldwater and Quincy in the Lower Peninsula. After moving to the U.P. for Ben’s health, they operated Copper Eagle Cabins near Eagle Harbor for 12 years, moving to Lake Linden following Ben’s death. Opal also helped her daughter, Lorna Lajeunesse, run Jacob’s Ladder in Calumet. Opal was very proud of her participation in various church choirs and had many dear friends at Northwoods Christian Assembly. Blessed with an excellent voice, Opal also enjoyed playing the organ. She was a former member of Jonesville United Methodist Church and Pine Ridge Church in Quincy. Surviving are daughters, Lorna Lajeunesse of Lake Linden and Anita Barrecchia of Floral City, Fla.; son Barry Benedict and his wife, Kathryn, of Lake Linden; brother, Richard Huggett of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; sisters, LaBelle Pothoff of Cleremont, Fla., Doris Sullivan of Grand Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Jerry Dean Benedict and Danny LeRoy Benedict; granddaughter, Debbi Sue Benedict; great-grandson, Jacob Stanton; brother, Lewis “Bud” Huggett; and sister, Thelma Oberlin. She was born April 30, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late Michael and Magdalena (Kolling) Repp, Sr. Rose was Dr. Neil Muir's receptionist in Croswell for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She is survived by Jim and Shelly Sheldon and family, Michaeleen and Blaine Northrup and family, several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Repp and Etta Repp. A special thank you to Stephanie and Scott Surinck, Alyssa and Alec for taking care of Aunt Rose these past several years. We would also like to thank her "second family" at the Grand Blanc Rehab facility, Chrisy, Chad, Bijal, Christine, Lynn, Linda and Roberta. Robert "Bob" Stone 1935-2009 Robert "Bob" Stone, 74, Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at his home in Bad Axe. He was born on January 12, 1935 in Bad Axe, son of the late Pleasant and Hazel (Baslock) Stone. He married Lila Schenk on November 14, 1954 in Bad Axe. He is survived by his wife Lila Stone, Bad Axe; one son, Randy (Lori) Stone, Bad Axe; one daughter, Linda (Eric) Engler, Cass City; five grandchildren, Shaun Engler, Swartz Creek, Aaron Engler, Cass City, Shannon Stone, Raleigh, NC, Caitlin Stone, Bad Axe and Randilyn Stone, Bad Axe. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Private services were held at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe with burial in Colfax Cemetery. |

Robert Valdes, age 62, of Adrian passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at his home. Robert was born in Summerfield Township on May 23, 1947, the oldest child of Adan and Damacia (Lara) Valdes. He graduated from Adrian High School with the Class of 1966.  Robert was attending the Detroit Bible Institute College in Detroit where he was to graduate next year. An avid sports fan, Robert enjoyed U of M football, the Detroit Red Wings, NASCAR and local high school and college sports. He was a charter member of the Pentecostal Church of Michigan. Robert is survived by five brothers, Manuel (Sue) Valdez of Hudson, Eddie (Pam) Valdes of Hesperia, Mich., Steve (Mary) Valdes of Coloma, Anthony (Kim) Valdes of Adrian and David (Ann) Valdes, also of Adrian; five sisters, Erlinda (Kevin) Jonio of Holland, Mich.,  Rebecca (Don) Martin of Joliet, Ill., Margret (Mark) Parker of Holton, Mich., Elizabeth (Leslie) Hultin of VanCleve, Miss., and Teresa (Jeff) Woods of Iowa. He is also survived by many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins as well as wonderful neighbors who were like part of the family, Bobby and Anita Taylor and Mary Berlanga. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Robert will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Luis Ramos officiating. Ronald Lew “Ron” Cook, age 71, of Mendon, died Monday, June 15, 2009, following a long illness.  He was born in Vicksburg on April 22, 1938, the son of Rex A. and Gladys (Henry) Cook and was a lifetime resident of the Mendon area. Ron attended Mendon Schools and was a 44 year employee of Simpson Paper and later Fox-River Paper Company in Vicksburg. Ron enjoyed working on machinery, repairing tractors and small engines.  He liked being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family and friends.  Ron was married to Beatrice “Bea” Hamminga on April 2, 1966, in Mendon. She died May 14, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Ray Cook. Ron is survived by two daughters, Joanne Gibson (Dan) of Montville, N.J., and Carol Ann Cook of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Jordan Gibson (Dani) of Wayland, Mich., and Danielle Gibson of Montville, N.J.; one great-grandchild, Lorelie Gibson; two sisters, Beverly Matthies (Louis) of Vicksburg and Florence Holroyd (Duane) of Mendon; five brothers, Clarence “Dick” Cook (Pat) and Dave Cook (Nancy), both of Mendon, Leo Cook (Betty) of Three Rivers, Robert Cook (Kay) of Burr Oak and Roger Cook (Marilyn) of Vicksburg; and by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Glen Atwood Lapeer Roy Glen Atwood, 78, of Lapeer (formerly of Hadley/Gladwin) passed away Monday (June 15, 2009). He was born November 25, 1930, in Highland Park, to Emil and Julia (Booher) Atwood. He married Gertrude Thomas in 1950. Roy graduated from Highland Park High School. Mr. Atwood worked over 30 years for J & L Steel in Warren. He enjoyed woodworking and was head usher at New Beginnings Family Church in Lapeer. Sister James Adele LaBonte, formerly known as Marie Elizabeth LaBonte, died on June 17, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 88 years of age and in the 69th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister James Adele was born in Chicago, Ill., to James and Mary (Schagemann) LaBonte. Sister graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich. Sister spent 33 years ministering in elementary education in Detroit and Alpena, Mich.; St. Charles, Homewood, Chicago and Joliet, Ill. She was Parish Secretary for 13 years at St. Patrick Parish in Pana, Ill., and School Librarian for five years St. Denis School in Chicago, Ill. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2002. Sister James Adele is survived by a sister, Adela Auskalnis of Naperville, Ill., and a brother, Donald LaBonte, of Franklin Park, Ill. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Virginia E. Smith, 87, of Adrian passed away, June 17, 2009, at Tecumseh Place II. Virginia was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Napoleon, Ohio, to Lorain and Gertrude (Blair) Overhulse. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married the love of her life, Robert Smith, in Liberty Center, Ohio. Over Virginia and Bob’s 66 years of marriage, they raised their two children together.  During World War II, Virginia went to work at Hurd Lock. After raising their children, Virginia went back to work for Vine Street Flower Shop for 17 years. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, sewing, reading, swimming at the “Y”, knitting and her dogs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Adrian where she and Bob helped serve Meals on Wheels. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Virginia is survived by her two children, David (Joann) Smith of Lambertville and Kathleen (Leo) Bennett of Adrian; five grandchildren, Todd (Corina) Kelley, Melissa (Jim) Sanders, Jennifer Smith, Andrew (Sarah) Smith and Jeremy (Tammy) Bennett; and six great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Juliana, Keegan, Rylee, Miranda and Evy.  She is also survived by her siblings, Percita Wright of Ashley, Ind., Norma (Bob) Krouse of Adrian and Jim (Barb) Deventhal of Auburn, Ind. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral services for Virginia will be held, Sunday, June 21, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Wagley Funeral Home with Andrew Smith officiating.  Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  You may also sign the register book and send condolences at  www.wagleyfuneralhome.com. He was born October 11, 1934 in Peck, the son of the late Bruce and Neva (McLeod) Putney. He married Betty Vyrene Holt on March 2, 1957 at the Trinity Missionary Church, Yale. Wallace was a 1953 Yale High School graduate then served his country from 1953 to 1955 in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime farmer who loved spending time with his family, talking with other local farmers, and his dog "Bud". Surviving are his wife, Betty of 52 years; one daughter Sherri Mayer of Peck; two grandchildren, Nicole (Christopher) Abney of Melvin, Matthew Mayer of Peck; one sister-in-law, Janet Putney, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Bob Putney (2005). Funeral services were held at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale with Rev. James McLeod and Rev. Diane VanMarter, pastor of Peck United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Elk Township Cemetery, Peck. Wayne Dailey, age 89, of Hudson died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Charlotte Stephenson Manor. Wayne was born March 5, 1920, in Delta, Ohio, to Glenn and Ruth (Guilford) Dailey. On June 1, 1941, he married Mildred Klopfenstein and she preceded him in death. He retired from Hoover Universal in 1977. Wayne is known for his warm smile, beautiful lawn and riding snowmobiles with his family. He will be missed by two daughters, Sharon (Dave) Marry of Hudson and Judy McGehee of Hampton, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ann (Jeff) Liby of Hudson and David “Buddy” Marry of Hudson; and three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, John and Elizabeth Liby; one brother, Floyd Dailey of Adrian; two sisters, Irene Anderson of Coldwater and Arlene Falshaw of Canton Center, Mich. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son in-law, Jake McGehee; granddaughter, Elizabeth Marry; and sister, Audrey Smelik. Visitation will be on Saturday, June 20, 2009, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home, in Hudson. A Healing Farewell will take place Monday, June 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
