He was a Supervisor for Sur-Flo in Fraser. He was known as a "jack-of-all-trades" and enjoyed yard work. Al recently took up cooking as a hobby. Al is survived by his wife Candy; children, Albert F. (Charmaine) Allagreen, Jr., Brandon M. (Amanda) Allagreen, Amanda (Phil) Patrick and Samantha (Michael) Galloway; step-children, Anthony & Ashley Clausen; parents, Albert & Norma Allagreen; brother, Mark (Francie) Allagreen; sisters, Karen (Rudy) Ziegler, Deborah (Ron Direzze) Allagreen and Kathy Kirby. Annette L. Wilson Annette L. Wilson, age 80, died Sept. 5, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was born June 4, 1929 in Goodrich, Mich. She was a former 39-year resident of Berkley, Mich. and a 19 year resident of New Port Richey, Fla. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, James T. Wilson, whom she married May 13, 1950 in Detroit. She is also survived by a son; David (Kris) Wilson of Grand Rapids, two grandchildren; Madeleine and Matthew. She was predeceased by a son; Larry Wilson. Mrs. Wilson did volunteer work for many Christian Organizations, and was "the" guest speaker at many of the meetings. Barbara J. Welsh, age 67, of Adrian passed away Sept. 3, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born March 30, 1942, in Adrian to Earl B. and Elizabeth (Oyer) Siders. On Oct. 22, 1960, she married Kenneth L. Welsh in Adrian. They had a marriage of 41 years; he preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2002. Barbara worked for the Department of Social Services from 1964 to 1977, then transferred to the Adrian Training School where she worked from 1977 to 1997, retiring from there in 1997. She also worked at JC Penney in Adrian before her illness. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Adrian. She and Ken enjoyed square dancing with the former Onsted Turnabouts and the Maple City Swingers. They also enjoyed camping with the Hitch Up and Go Club and bowling. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Barb is survived by her daughter, Denise (Kirk) Cornell of Blissfield; son, Michael, and his friend, Roy, of Evert, Mich.; grandchildren, Tim (Kim) Ahlers, Chris (Michelle) Ahlers, Nathan Ahlers and April Ahlers; step-grandchildren, Kirk Cornell II and Kyle Cornell; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Raymond Welsh; brothers-in-law Norman (JoAnn) Welsh and Terry Welsh, and sister-in-law Crystal Welsh; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, and her parents. Funeral services for Barbara will be on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Christopher Brundage officiating. Bernal Lee Gillette, of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Hillsdale County, the son of Clayton and Lula (Warren) Gillette. He is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Ardath Joy Gillette, whom he married on July 2, 1950. He is also survived by three sons, Gary Lee (Paula) Gillette of Montgomery Village, Maryland, Jerry Dean (Cheryl Irene) Gillette of Battle Creek and Timothy Russell (Naomi) Gillette of Taipei, Taiwan; two daughters, Carol Ann (John) Connell of Atlanta, Georgia and Wendy Sue (Steve) Osterhout of Laurel, Maryland; one son-in-law, Tom (Marcia) Macklin of Quincy; six granddaughters and six grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia Lynn Macklin and three brothers, Leland, Leonard and Donald. Mr. Gillette served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Hillsdale Free Methodist Church, the Kiwanis Club of Hillsdale and a member of the Jackson Computer Club which was his passion. He loved music and enjoyed working with school bands. He worked as a traveling salesman for Marshall Music and retired in 1992. A funeral service to honor the life of Bernal Lee Gillette will be held at the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 with Pastor Keith Porter officiating. Cremation will follow the service. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church. Betty Jean Maier Okemos Betty was born on July 8, 1925, in Sunfield, Michigan; she died September 7, 2009, at the age of 84. The most important thing in her life was her family. Betty will be fondly remembered for her cooking and baking abilities. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell W. Betty Louise Lewis, age 79, of LaGrange,Ind., passed away Monday evening, Sept. 7, 2009, at her home. She was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Auburn, Ind., a daughter of the late Meryl and Erma (Chapman) Carper. Betty had resided in Ontario, Ind., for the past 35 years, coming from Sturgis. On Jan. 10, 1948, she married William Lewis in Fort Wayne, Ind. Betty was self-employed as a second-hand store operator. For many years she worked at Zickafoose Fruit Market in Sturgis and had also been employed by Michiana Container in Sturgis. She was a past member of Loyal Order of Moose #574 in Sturgis. Betty enjoyed going to the casino and was always willing to be of help to others. She had a passion and love for going to auctions and always returned home with some treasures. She is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Steven) Haney of Burr Oak and Rita (Floyd) Mast of Howe, Ind.; three sons, John (Hilde) Lewis of Sturgis, Russell Lewis of Howe, Ind., and Roy Lewis of LaGrange; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a half-sister. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two sons, Lucky Lewis and Steve Lewis; and a great-grandson, Lawrence Ultz. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Farm Bureau, Branch Co. AARP, and MARSP. She was a 4-H Leader for many years and volunteered at the Commission on Aging. She was the Ovid Township Treasurer for many years. Carlene retired from Michigan Gas Utilities. She is survived by son Carl Hunker of Coldwater, daughters Shirley (Stan) Tipton of Coldwater and Lori (David) Ruhlig of Dexter, grandchildren James (Valorie) Vaughan, Lisa Larimer, Brian and Scott Ruhlig, five great grandchildren, sisters Donna (Lee) Vance and Marilyn (Gene) Pascoe, both of Coldwater and brother Merle (Elizabeth) Donbrock of Coldwater. Carrie Eleanor Pulver, 86, a lifelong Hillsdale County resident, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at the Laurels of Coldwater following a three-month battle with kidney disease. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Hillsdale, to Eugene and Alta (Burlew) Marsh. She was married Oct. 8, 1942 to Elmer Pulver and he survives. Carrie was a loving mother, devoted wife and a caring friend to all who knew her. Carrie and her husband Elmer established and operated Pulver’s T.V. & Appliance in Hillsdale for over 25 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsdale for over 60 years. She was a graduate of Hillsdale High School in 1940. Her current hobbies included baking cookies for her friends and family and raising goats. Surviving besides her husband Elmer of nearly 67 years, are  a son, John (Judi) Pulver of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Laura (Bryan) Sandera of Grand Rapids, James and Douglas Pipenger, both of Galveston, Texas; great-granddaughter, Emilie Sandera; and a sister, Vera Trevathan of Hillsdale. Memorial services for Carrie Pulver will be noon Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsdale with Pastor Patti Beckman officiating. Daniel N. Boutell Lapeer Daniel N. Boutell, 85, of Lapeer, passed away Tuesday (September 1, 2009). He was born July 27, 1924, in Ypsilanti, to Nelson and Mary (Crocker) Boutell. He married Sharon Clarke on August 9, 1958 in Brighton. Mr. Boutell was a proud American and served as a U.S. Marine during WWII. One of his passions was genealogy, specifically with the Mayflower Descendents of Michigan and the Founders & Patriots of America. He was an engineering graduate of MSU and continued to be a big fan of Michigan State, as well as the Detroit Tigers. Daniel was a volunteer tutor for the Family Literacy Center. Dennis E. Spearman 1947-2009 Dennis E. Spearman, 61, Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born in Detroit on December 30, 1947, to the late Fred and Lucille (Shaklet) Spearman. Dennis was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S Army. He received a Bronze Star for risking his life to save his squadron while on patrol in Vietnam in 1968, during the Tet Offensive. He was a retired employee of Palmer Moving and Storage in Detroit, working for over 30 years. He is survived by a brother, David Spearman, Harbor Beach. Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Rev. Theresa Cutler officiated, with burial taking place in Rock Falls Cemetery, Harbor Beach. Doris Adeline Yoder was born January 15, 1917, in East Leroy, Mich., the daughter of Milton and Hester Yoder. She grew up in Almont and graduated from Almont High School, Class of 1935. She married Philip E. Pittenger on August 1, 1937 in Almont. Philip died on November 2, 2004. Doris had been employed by General Telephone and Electric Company; she started out as a telephone switchboard operator. She was promoted to the drafting and engineering department. She retired in 1976 after 25 years at GTE. She and Philip retired to Glennie, Mich., where they lived for 25 years. Duane Stephen "Bompa" Swaney, age 63, of Coldwater, died on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at his home. No service will be held at this time. Duane was born on March 17, 1946, to Harry and Madelyn (Taylor) Swaney in Coldwater. He was raised in Girard and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1964. He married his first wife Jacqueline (Pierucki) Weddle in December 1964 Duane served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. He was wounded and honorably discharged. He worked as a journeyman plumber under his father, Harry, until 1973. He then left the Coldwater area and became an ironworker. He pursued his trade all across the U.S. until he returned to Coldwater in 1984. He then owned and operated an auto repair shop, D & J Auto, in Bronson. In the late 1980s, he returned to Texas to continue on in his ironwork. He came back to live in Coldwater in 1999 and had lived there until his passing. He married Deetta Boucher on May 8, 2009. She survives. Motorcycles were Duane's true passion, but he was also a fan of auto racing. He enjoyed fishing, computers and computer gaming, his family, and pets, but his favorite pastime was talking. He loved nothing more than a good debate. In addition to his wife, Duane is survived by his daughter, Jeanette Swaney of Coldwater; his daughters from his second wife, Sherry Hill, Erin, Marnie and Samantha, all of Jackson; step-daughter, Donna Boucher; step-son, Jamie Hecox; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Reva "Missy" Swaney. Memorials may be directed to the Disabled Veterans of America, the American Cancer Society, or the family. The loving son, father and grandfather entered the heavenly gates on Sept. 6, 200 at 11 a.m. at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency after what doctors believe to be a stroke. Earnest enjoyed his 70 years of life, fishing, playing cards, watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza, John Wayne movies, football and boxing. He also enjoyed 29 years with his significant other Viola. Some of his favorite past times involved camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He had been employed by Essex Wire in Three Rivers for 14 years before accepting a position at CMI in Bristol, Ind., where he worked for five years. He then went to Seneca Systems in Middlebury, Ind., where he worked for 12 years before retiring in 2004. He is survived by his loving partner of 29 years, Viola Quinn; three daughters, Nikki May Canada of Sturgis, Wanada Canada of Sacramento, Calif., and Edna Canada of Grand Rapids; two sons, Earnest Canada, Jr. of St. Louis, Miss., and Victor Canada of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren including, Gabriel Canada and Sara Rose Canada of Sturgis; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Harris of Drew, Miss., and Tommie Canada of Garden Grove, Calif., and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to working other various jobs in the South Haven Area, Ethel work as a bookkeeper for Brinks Bros and Son Well Drilling. She was an excellent cook and she loved canning. She also enjoyed bowling. Ethel is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Preston Brinks and her daughter, Cynthia Brinks.  Two brothers, Gordon “Whitey” Nienhuis and Roger Nienhuis. Frank J. Andler Wellborn, Fla. Frank J. Andler, 72, of Wellborn, Fla. (formerly of Metamora, West Palm Beach and Iron Mountain) passed away Thursday (September 3, 2009). Frank proudly served his country is the U.S. Army. Mr. Andler married Mary Lou Cline on December 12, 1964 in Metamora. He was a licensed condominium manager in Palm Beach County, Fla., for 20 years. He enjoyed casinos, motorcycling, fishing, hunting, golfing and watching TV. He liked football, baseball and was a big Green Bay Packer and Minnesota Vikings fan. Frank was an organizer for Teamsters Service Employers International and started the U.P.'s first labor union in Iron Mtn. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 893 in Lake City, Fla., American Legion 57 in Lake City, the Moose Club in Lake Worth, Fla., and helped campaign for the Democratic Party. She was born on Feb. 21, 1926, in Clayton, to John and Naomi Dowling. She married Wendell L. Shepherd in 1945. Jackie was raised in Clayton and then lived in Adrian, Tecumseh, and Manitou Beach. She graduated from the last graduating class of Clayton High School in 1944. She worked as a professional musician and as a piano and organ teacher. She loved flowers, was an avid gardener, a lifelong collector of antiques, and a devoted mother and wife. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and three brothers. Surviving is Wendell Shepherd, her husband, of Manitou Beach; one sister, Erla Sawdy of Grayling, Michigan; two sons, Dr. Marvin and Valerie Shepherd of Austin, Texas; and Stephen and Janet Shepherd of Dubuque, Iowa. She is also survived by six grandchildren Joshua, Monica, Adam, Lesley, Nathan, and Emily, and two great-grand children, Ava and Sara. James Wendell McCall of Grand Rapids, formerly of Hillsdale, born June 28, 1920 in Hillsdale, died Aug. 29, 2009 at his Grand Rapids Township home. He is survived by his wife, Ardath Marie (Blood) McCall, whom he married Nov. 27, 1954; his children, Carolyn (Peter) Manting  of Spring Lake, Mich., Gregory (Bryn) McCall of Hilliard, Ohio and Arthur McCall of Hillsdale; grandchildren, Ben Manting, Emily Manting, Ryan McCall, Seth McCall, Brent McCall and Arthur McCall, Jr.; his sister, Marilyn Trytten of Ann Arbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Mary Wave McCall. Jim was a 1947 graduate of Hillsdale High School and attended Hillsdale College for two years while living at home and working at the family business. He was a 1951 graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in lumber retailing. After two years in the Army during the Korean War he took over as manager of the family business, McCall Lumber & Fuel Company. Jim sold the business in 1988 and after working part time for three years for the new owner, he retired. He was retired for one day when he was asked to be the founding executive director of the newly organizing Hillsdale County Community Foundation where he worked for the next 10 years steering the new foundation to great growth. During their years in Hillsdale, Ardath and Jim welcomed to their home and family over 60 international students as well as several foster children and Hillsdale College students. Throughout the many years in Hillsdale, Jim served on many boards including The Community Concert Association, the Y.M.C.A., Hillsdale Library and the Hillsdale State Savings Bank. He was a member of Kiwanis International for over 55 years. As a member and elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, Jim served on Session, and two pulpit search committees. He received several community service awards in Hillsdale. Among others, he received an “Outstanding Alumni Award” from Hillsdale College in 1997, “Book of Golden Deeds” award from the Exchange Club in 1998 and the “Marvin E. Howell Award” from the Hillsdale County Industrial Development Commission in 1997 that recognizes a long-term contribution to the economic and industrial growth of Hillsdale County. Moving to Grand Rapids in 2003, Jim joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church where he volunteered, and at times worked, as an interim in different areas of administration. He volunteered regularly at the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden at Frederik Meijer Gardens. He was active in Golden K Kiwanis and mentored children in reading at Mulick Park Elementary School. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 in the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, 31 North Street. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. Joyce Ann Look Lansing Born April 22, 1936 in Lansing the daughter of Cecil and Pauline (Antes) Edgar, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009 in Lansing, at age 73. Joyce retired from the Lansing Public Schools as a Data Entry Clerk. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. in 1993, and a grandson, Joseph Nappier. Surviving are her 5 children: Pamela (Richard) Sober, James Jr. (Karla), Kathryn Nappier, Laura Hansen and Diana (Steven) Hoover; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Kathy (Bill) Sylvester and Kay (Larry) Ashbaugh; a brother, Phillip (Linda) Edgar; and many loving nieces and nephews. Judith Mae (Mulder) Lindsay Nokomis, FL Passed away of natural causes on September 1, 2009 in Nokomis, Florida. Mrs. Lindsay was born on May 16, 1926 to Henrik and H. Mae Mulder in Grand Rapids Michigan; she graduated from Hastings High School, Hastings, Michigan and lived in Lansing and East Lansing before retiring to Florida. Mrs. Lindsay was an avid bowler, bowling in several leagues at Holiday Lanes, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Sparrow Hospital Guild. Mrs. Lindsay loved to dance and in retirement cruise the Caribbean Islands. Mrs. Lindsay is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas C. Lindsay Sr. of Nokomis, Florida; son Thomas C. Lindsay II and fiancée Karen J. Burgess; son, Richard H. Lindsay and wife Sally; son, Gary L. Lindsay and partner Michael Chapman; daughter, Judith Lindsay Ward and husband Michael. Mrs. Lindsay is also survived by sisters, Fern Orsborn, Mary Ellen Belson; brother, James Mulder; and 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. LYN D. CAIG WORTHINGTON Lyn D. Caig, age 61, of Worthington, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born November 6, 1947 in Deckerville, Michigan to James E. and Geraldine (Wright) Caig. Lyn worked as a lineman for Detroit Edison in Michigan until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement, Lyn enjoyed farming. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the 75th Ranger Regiment Association and a member of the Association of the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry. He was a member of IBEW Union Local 17 in Detroit, a life member of VFW in Worthington and the American Legion in Spencer, the Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, the Shriner s Organization in Terre Haute, and the Methodist Church. Lyn is survived by his wife, Terry (Wells) Caig whom he married June 7, 1985; two sons, James (Nicole) Caig of Los Angeles, Tony Caig of San Francisco; two daughters, Jennifer (Sam) Jones of Los Angeles, Julie (Carlo) Thomas of New Orleans; two step-children, Candi (Scott) Zufall of Coal City and Andy (Jacci) Wood of Coal City; two sisters, Sondra Graff and Sheila (Bob) Barham of Deckerville, Michigan and eight grandchildren, Jordan Thomas, Julia Thomas, Dillon Zufall, Keaton Zufall, Kelci Wood, Katie Wood, James Jones and Avery Jones. Marlin D. “Doc” Pish, 82, of Camden, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was born Dec. 21, 1926 in Camden Township to Joseph G. and Jennie (Canfield) Pish and graduated from Reading High School. Doc was an auctioneer, farmer and had also worked in the oil business. A successful entrepreneur, he knew everyone and will be remembered for calling everyone “Doc”. He loved the land, life surrounding his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was proud that he never knew a stranger. Survivors include one daughter, Patti Tollas of Bronson; one son, Gerl D. (Katrina) Pish of Reading; two sisters,  Ruby E. Bok of Camden, Doris June Pish of Camden; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with interment following in Berg Cemetery, Montgomery. Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. She enjoyed reading, traveling, watching soap operas, and collecting cookie jars and pig figurines. She married Leslie G. Landwehr Aug. 1, 1981, in Cement City, and he survives her along with her son, Vernon Waite, Hudson; seven stepchildren: Ann Thomas, Allegan, Mary (Jack) Murray, Parma, Gerald Landwehr, Brooklyn, Mich., Robert (Virginia) Landwehr, Adrian, Shirley (Dave) VandenBussche, St. Clair Shores, Debbie (Paul) Adams, Taylor, and Barbara (Louie) Snyder, Morenci; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Huffman, Hudson, and Janet (John) Pfeiffer, Toledo. Battles Powell. On Nov. 11, 1942, she married Woodrow H. Barclay, who survives. Mrs. Barclay graduated from Bluffton High School in 1934 and attended Northwestern Business College. She worked for Triplett Corp. in Bluffton, Book Distribution at Bluffton College and then in Toledo. She lived in Adrian, as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker from 1953 to 1968. There, she was active in the Michigan Association Extension, United Methodist Church and Women’s Circle, Rome Grange, Iris Garden Club and Group B Mother’s Club. Then, moving to Grand Rapids, she worked at Turnstyle Department Store and enjoyed ceramics, crafts, and sewing. Survivors also include two daughters, Karen Kussmaul, of Bluffton, and Kristin (Arnold) Lee, of Grand Rapids; a son, John (Shellie) Barclay, of Bronson; a foster brother, Raymond (Marcene) Spangler, of Bluffton; 14 grandchildren, Brian and Brett Barclay, Joe (Kimberly) Kussmaul, Jeff (DeAnna) Kussmaul, Tori (Kerri) Mehringer, Jamie (Gerry) Watanabe, Andrea (Mike) Crudder, Paul (Jessica) Lee, Kami (Mike) Kehoe, Denise (LeVal) Gunn, Jennifer Wright, Rachel Lee, and Michael Lee; 16 great-grandchildren, Mikaela and Carissa Kussmaul, Spencer and Parker Kussmaul, Lucas, Marie and Rachel Mehringer, Kamariya and Jonathan Gunn, Ezra and Eden Wright, Audrey and Chase Kehoe, Paula and A.J. She taught music at Three Rivers, Port Huron and Romeo,Michigan. She was choir director for many years at First Presbyterian Church of Warren and dedicated to her work there as a Membership Elder. After retirement in 1996, she enjoyed two trips to Europe, particularly Norway, England and Germany. A favorite place of hers was Peyto Lake in the Canadian Rockies. Traveling with the Nomads and taking several Elderhostel study trips were a joy. Survived by her husband, friend and partner of 57 years, Arthur J. Snook; daughter, Margaret Cardinale; brothers Kenneth and Richard Ruff; grandchildren, W. Patricia Ann Collins, age 77, of Adrian, passed away Sept. 4, 2009, after a long struggle with COPD at Bixby Medical Center. She was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pa., to John Derwechter and Mildred Mosker. As a mother of seven children, she lived a very busy life. Through the years she enjoyed many things including hunting, horses, motorcycles, dancing, parties, bowling, and especially enjoyed animals, shopping, redecorating, reading and music. She lived hard, played hard and worked hard her entire life. She loved her grandchildren and spent a lot of time helping to teach them to read and learn their responsibilities in the home. She is survived by six of her children, Gene “Butch” Bizek (Nancy) of Rimrock, Ariz., Nikki Francis of Tucson, Ariz., Harry “Skip” Bizek (Sue) of Pine, Ariz., Tina Buie of Denver, Colo., Sherry McTaggart (Rob) of Adrian, and Shawn Collins of Claremore, Okla. Also surviving is a special friend, James Hensley of Claremore, Okla., and lifelong friend Gene Collins, also of Claremore, Okla. She was preceded in death by a son, David Collins, and several grandchildren who held a very special place in her heart. At her request, cremation will take place and her ashes returned to the Sonora desert in Arizona with no public memorial services. Schniedewind on August 3, 1956 in Washington D.C., he died on November 1, 2008. She was a longtime area resident and enjoyed being a Foster grandmother at Croswell Schools. The service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home with Kenneth Kurtz officiating. Interment will follow at Mason Cemetery. Ralph was born Oct. 5, 1914 in West Unity, Ohio to Guy and Adah (Clifton) McLaughlin. He married Rosella Shreve on Aug. 31, 1937 in Collins, Ind. They just celebrated 72 years of marriage together. Ralph’s family came to Coldwater in 1918 from West Unity, Ohio with horse and wagon, making several trips back and forth to relocate the family and the family farm. He was proud to have graduated from Coldwater High School in 1932 and went on to study animal nutrition at MSU. Ralph opened McLaughlin Brothers Feed Store in Coldwater, which operated for seven years. He then went to work at the Coldwater state Home for 17 years, eventually retiring in 1967. Mr. McLaughlin became a fur buyer which he continued to do for many years, becoming a lifelong member of the Michigan and Nat’l Trapper’s Association’s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was known by many for his “dirty stories.” Ralph was preceded in death by his daughter Janean Kistel in 1995, his sister Roberta Brown and his brother Lisle McLaughlin. He is survived by his wife Rosella, his son Jerry (Elizabeth) McLaughlin of West Lafayette, Ind., his son-in-law Jack Kistel of Girard, his grandchildren Angie (Mark Lancaster) McLaughlin of Los Cruces, N.M., Andrew (Kathryn) McLaughlin of Chenega Bay, Alaska, Mark Kistel of Coldwater, Marcia (Chad) Curtis of Coldwater, great grandchildren Sierra and Sophia Stone, Taylor and Katlynn Kistel and Geoff Barry and Megan Barry. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Richard Robert Safstrom will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale 1 p.m. Saturday. He had made his home in Colon since 1969 coming from Harvey, Ill. Roman had worked for the former Kirsch Company of Sturgis from 1970 until his retirement in 1992. Roman was a life time Chicago Cub’s & Bear’s fan, he also enjoyed bingo, fishing, golf, casinos, and hand crafts. He is survived by one daughter, Sherri (C.J.) Haisman of Colon; one son, Michael L. (Stephanie) Kurzawski of Ceresco; five grandchildren, Jeffery and Jessica Wilder, Kristy Jopek and Katie and Gregory Kurzawski; four great-grandchildren, Denise, McKenzie, Marek and Brooke; two sisters, Stella Malesh of Colon and Virginia Stockey of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews. She was a treasurer for the North Branch Area Association and also a member and secretary for the north Branch Downtown Development Authority. She enjoyed sewing, scrap booking, reading and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Sister Marie Wiedner, formerly known as Sister Therese Michael Wiedner, died on Sept. 5, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 83 years of age and in the 58th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Marie was born in Chicago, Ill., to Frank and Caroline (Kornfeind) Wiedner. Sister graduated from St. Philomena High School in Chicago and received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, a Master of Arts Degree in English from DePaul University in Chicago and a Master of Applied Theology Degree from The School of Applied Theology in Berkeley, Calif. Sister spent 20 years ministering in education in Deerfield, Detroit and Adrian; Chicago, Ill.; Oakland, Santa Cruz and Hayward, Calif.; and Assumption, Ohio. She was Secretary General of the Dominican Generalate for four years in Adrian, Mich., and Provincial Councilor of Holy Cross Provincial House in Santa Cruz for one year. Sister was Pastoral Associate for five years at St. Charles Parish in Livermore, Calif., and for eight years at St. Joseph Parish in Capitola, Calif. She was Chaplain for six years at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Dyer, Ind. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2009. Sister Marie is survived by three brothers, Frank Wiedner and Joseph Wiedner of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and William Wiedner of Elk Grove, Calif. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center, on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Stephen M. Beedle 1949 - 2009 Stephen M. Beedle, D.D.S., 59, Pigeon, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at home with his family and loved ones near. He was born December 21, 1949 in Pontiac, the son of Harold "Hal" Gale and Betty Ann (Thompson) Beedle. On August 19, 1972 he was married to Laura J. Polando at Newman Chapel on the Wayne State University campus. He was a 1968 graduate of Clawson High School, received his B.S. in 1972 from Wayne State University and his D.D.S. from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1976. Steve was a member of St. John Episcopal Church, Sand Point, for over 20 years. Along with his sons, he was active with Boy Scout Troop 545 of Elkton. He was past president of the Pigeon Rotary Club. He enjoyed fly-fishing on the Fox River and the Rifle River as well as throughout Michigan. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, horseback riding, as well as many other outdoor sports. He also liked to travel and enjoyed going to the opera with Dr. Mancuso. He was an avid pre-Revolutionary War historian. For more than 12 years, he and his family enjoyed rendezvous camping, where they took part in pre-Revolutionary War enactment life and camping. Dr. Steve was a servant to many during his years of dental practice in Pigeon since 1977, where he was active until his death. He and his family deeply appreciated the care of Heartland Hospice throughout his illness. He is survived by his wife, Laura, Pigeon; two sons, Joseph W. Beedle, Caro and his fianc Rochelle Keller, and Gordon M. Beedle, Saginaw; his mother, Betty Beedle and her friend, Pless Henry; a sister, Christine Bowlby; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Buchynski; brothers and sisters-in-law, Colin (Sherry) Polando, Maxine (Gary) Smith, Gordie (Carrie) Polando, and Ross Polando; and many friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his father, Hal Beedle, sister, Gayle Beedle, and brother-in-law, Chris Bowlby. Funeral services were heldon Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, with Rev. Raymond Orth officiating. Cremation followed at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City. Memorials may be made to the Lake Huron Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America or St. John Episcopal Church. Arrangements were handled by the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon.

Virginia Marie “Ginnie”Lips, age 83, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away early Monday morning Sept. 7, 2009, at her home. She was born June 29, 1926, in Kalamazoo, Mich., a daughter to the late Carl William and Mary (Macey) Hanichen. Virginia had resided in Sturgis since 1952 coming from Chicago, where she attended and graduated from the Illinois Masonic Hospital School of Nursing receiving her license as a registered nurse. Her early life was spent in Vicksburg where she graduated from Vicksburg High School with the class of 1944. On July 16, 1949, she married Conrad G. “Connie” Lips in Vicksburg. He died Feb. 28, 2007. In 1955, she was hired as a registered nurse at the Sturgis Memorial Hospital and retired in 1983. The last 20 years of her career she held the position of operating room supervisor. With her husband, she owned Litho Printers in Sturgis from 1963-1995. Virginia enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and for many years spending the winters at her and Connie’s home in Winter Haven, Fla. Virginia truly loved time spent with her family especially her grandchildren. She is survived her daughter Caryl Susan (Wes Garner) Fittro of Sturgis; six grandchildren, Maria (Lt. Colonel Brent) Lawniczak of Millbrook, Ala., Christian (Becky) Fittro of Middlebury, Ind., Joshua Fittro of Sturgis, Samuel (Holly) Fittro of Sturgis, Meghan (Will) Dobberteen of Sturgis and Hannah (Matt) Lehman of Sturgis; nine great-grandchildren. Justin, Chelsea, Ryan and Emily Lawniczak, Blake and Taylor Fittro, Noah Lehman and Ethan and Blake Furr; one brother, Bill (Ellen) Hanichen of Muskegon; sister-in-law, Marlea Hanichen of Vicksburg and many nieces and nephews. He was born August 16, 1925 in Lexington, son of the late Lewis and Gertrude Jean (Lowe) Patterson. He and Iris E. Derby were married June 20, 1953 in Croswell. She passed away on January 14, 2003. Murph was a member of the Lexington United Methodist Church. He was retired after 42 years from Mueller Brass Co. and 11 years at WalMart, Fort Gratiot. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member and three times Past Master of Lexington F. & A.M. Lodge #61, Past High Priest of RAM #41, member and two times Past Patron of O.E.S. Chapter #137, Lexington V.F.W. Post # 2382, and Past High Priest of Huron Chapter #27. Surviving are his two sons, Thomas (Diane) of Fort Gratiot, and Rick (Nancy) of Croswell; two daughters, Peggy (Kurt) Nunn and Penny (Dan) Strobbe, all of North Street; one sister, Joanne (Al) Bush of Port Huron, two sisters-in-law, Irene Macklem and Sue Patterson; grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Shutt, Mike (Sarah) Patterson, Tara (Bryan) Touchette, Katie (Steve) Emert, Kristy Nunn, Corey & Christopher Strobbe; special great granddaughters, Avery Shutt and Carmen Touchette; many special nieces, nephews and friends. William Brenton Beall Jr. was born on July 14, 1945 in Fredericksburg, Va. He passed away July 16, 2009, after an extended illness in Modesto, Calif. His father was, William B. Beall Sr., his mother was Romaine June (Farver) Beall. He graduated from, White Pigeon High School, White Pigeon, Mich., in June 1963. Then enlisted in USMC July 1963. He served two tours in South Vietnam, achieving the rank of Sgt. Bill attended Tri-State University, Angola, Ind. He then started working in the power industry in 1969, traveling across the USA building power lines, he then worked for Pacific Gas and Electric, in California until his death. Bill Jr., married Bonnie Braum, April 19, 1986, in California. Bill Jr. was current Worshipful Master of Patterson Lodge #488 Free & Accepted Masons, Patterson, Calif., and he was a member of Scottish Rite. Bill Jr., loved life and gave to others his entire life, in many ways. He worked hard, putting his all into Scouting, until his health would not allow it. He helped his wife Bonnie when they worked as foster parents for “drug babies.” Bill Jr. deeply loved his step-granddaughters, teaching them the finer things of life, like burritos in the morning. He enjoyed and loved helping his grandfather, Hobart, on the farm north of Middlebury, Ind. He enjoyed football and wrestling in high school, then later SCUBA diving and flying his own airplane. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; parents Bill and Romaine Beall Sr.; brother Mike (Judy) Beall Sr.; sister Suzy (Joe) Robison; step daughter Moriah (Kurt) Brethouwer; two step grandsons, Joshua and Elijah; two step granddaughters, Alyssa and Kaylah; three nephews; one niece;, three great-nieces; and three great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin Allen and Aline Mae (Miller) Beall and William Hobart and Bernice (McKibbin) Farver; and great-grandparents, Allen Marvin and Eva (Coutz) Beall, Albert and Daisy (Meyers) Miller, Dr. M. A. and Elizabeth (Hostetler) Farver, D.W. and Ida Jane (Haines) McKibbin; and two step-sons Brian and John. His body has been cremated, with the ashes returned to his family. A memorial service will be held in Middlebury, Ind.,  at Grace Lawn Cemeteryat 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev Richard D. Dunning officiating. Military Honors will be given by American Legion Post 210, Middlebury.
