Margie spent the last three years of her life at Hillside AFC Home, where she was lovingly cared for by Shawn and Phil Smith. Margie was born, November 15, 1914, in New York City, the daughter of the late Jacob and Willimena Haas. After high school graduation, Margie attended secretarial school and then obtained employment with the Kidde Fire Extinguisher Company of New York City. Her family owned a summer cottage in Forked River, New Jersey, and it was there where she met her husband, Harold William McNally of Brown City. At the time, Harold was employed with the New Jersey Fish and Game Commission, in Forked River. On December 20, 1941, Margie and Harold were married in Linden, New Jersey. Shortly afterwards because of World War II, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he spent four years in the South Pacific. Margie continued to live and work in the New York City area. After the war, the couple moved to Michigan and purchased Harold's grandparents farm in Brown City. Both were members of the United Methodist Church in Brown City. For Margie, a girl from New York City, moving to a dairy farm in Michigan was quite a culture shock. Margie worked alongside Harold, helping with the farm chores while raising her family. Margie loved to read and made weekly trips to the library in town. Margie was always quite creative and loved to make floral arrangements and crafts. She was also an accomplished seamstress and made many of her daughter's school clothes. During her marriage, Margie helped to organize the local PTA at the school which is still in existence today. Margie also helped to open the local youth center and brought a dance teacher to Brown City from Port Huron to instruct the local youth in Ballroom, Ballet and Tap dancing. She was also a Den mother for her sons boy scout troop. Anyone that ever had a meal at the McNally home knew that Margie was a wonderful cook, and made homemade bread and pies every week. Her daughter-in-law says she made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world! But most of all Margie was a great Mom, the best Mom two kids could ever wish for. God blessed us, when he picked you to be our Mom. Mom we love you and will miss you. Margie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Jo McNally of Sitka, Alaska, and a daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and James Nunn of Snover. Her dear and loyal friend, doris Gingell of Brown City, and the couple that loved and cared for her until the end of her life, Shawn and Phil Smith of Decker. She is also survived by one nephew and two nieces. Margie was preceded in death by Harold, who passed away on October 19, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in law Frederick and Elizabeth Haas of Clearwater, FL. And her in-laws Hiram and Ida McNally. A private family service was held at Carman Funeral Home in Brown City with Pastor Jay Barsaleau from 1st Baptist Church in Bad Axe, officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Brown City Arrangements by the Carman Funeral Home, Brown City.
