                • Arthur J. Nitz 1935-2008 Arthur J. Nitz, Sebewaing, 73, died unexpectedly Monday, October 13, 2008 at his home. He was born July 3, 1935 in Sebewaing, the son of the late John and Helen (Schroeder) Nitz. He was a 1953 graduate of Sebewaing High School. He was united in marriage to Virginia M. Schulz on November 1, 1958 in Kilmanagh. Art served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed at Michigan Sugar Company in Sebewaing for over 40 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three sons, Douglas Nitz, Akron, Brian Nitz, Akron and Richard (Debra) Nitz, Allegan; one daughter, Lorraine (Max) Morey, Detroit; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Leland Nitz, Sebewaing, Ken Nitz, Port Austin and Ronald Nitz, Mayville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Duane Nitz. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel Hahn officiated, with burial taking place in the church cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Immanuel Lutheran Radio Mission Fund.                                                                                                   • ELEANOR EAGLE SANDUSKY Eleanor Eagle, age 89, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly among her new friends at the supper table where she lived at Stonegate Village, Sandusky, Michigan on October 12th, 2008. Eleanor composed her own obituary as follows: I am Eleanor Mae Dale Eagle born March 4, 1919, the youngest child of James and Frances Boyne Dale of Marlette, Michigan. That was the year of a world wide Spanish Flu epidemic that killed more people than World War One. All of my family have passed away. My parents raised four children. Floyd, the oldest boy, died at age 90. Ruth lived eighty years. The third child was a son, Donald. He lived to be 83, and passed away. I am 89 years old now. Marvin and I were married September 21, 1941. He died August 15th, 1998 on his mother's birthday at the age of nearly 82 years old, in the Sanilac County Medical Care Facility. He was born October 10, 1916. I would prefer to be cremated, and my ashes buried in front of our marker at Watertown cemetery, next to my husband's grave. Eleanor is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Gayla Eagle, Sandusky and sister-in-law, Laura Dale, Marlette; nephews, Linwood (Elizabeth)Dale, Marlette, Leslie(Judy) Dale, Frankenmuth, Jim (Linda) Eagle, Sandusky, Chris (Charlene) Eagle, Ann Arbor, Don Eagle, Eastpointe; nieces, Deanna (Tom) Stamp, Marlette, Cathy (Jack) Nickens, Marlette, Ann Dale and Tony, South Carolina, and Marcia (Renne) Hernandez, Texas, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Ogrodny, age 95, of Lapeer (formerly of Clawson), passed away Friday (October 17, 2008). She was born August 24, 1913 to Felix and Mary (Zieleskiewicz) Zaborowicz. She married Joseph J. Ogrodny on May 23, 1951 in Detroit. Mrs. Ogrondy was a riveter during WWII then worked at Sanders, packing candy. She and her husband owned and operated a party store called J&M Beer Store in Detroit from 1958-1965. Emily was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she enjoyed attending. She loved to read, specifically about history, enjoyed traveling and was known as a truly fun sociable person who always had a smile on her face. She is survived by her daughter, Felicia (Jack) Jackowski of Lapeer; grandchildren, Jessica Jackowski and John (Magdalena) Jackowski. Roth 1918-2008 "I'd like to live to ninety and then that's enough," she said many time over the years. So saying, Helen W. Roth, 90, left for heaven on October 12, 2008 in Tawas City. She was born on February 23, 1918, the youngest daughter of the late John and Ida (Compton) Fournier of Gagetown. In 1939 she married Burton Roth and moved to a farm near Owendale. When Burton died in 1979, she moved to New Port Richey, Fla. In 2003 she returned to Michigan to be closer to her family. Teaching, first in rural schools in Huron and Tuscola counties, then in Owendale-Gagetown system, was the highlight of her life. Second graders were her favorites, she took special pride in teaching them cursive writing. In retirement in Florida, Helen loved volunteering at two thrift shops. Consequently her family received many interesting "Mother boxes." Helen maintained an active interest in current events, particularly politics. In fact during her last week of life she asked for and cast an absentee ballot. She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie (Randolph) Brown, Tawas City; her son, Dick (Pam) Roth, Caseville; two granddaughters, Mary (Byron) Graf, Caseville and Kristen (Levi) Zagorski, Bay City and three special great-grandsons, Thomas and William Graf and Stephen Zagorski. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Preston (Jack) and Lynwood Fournier and two sisters, Stella (Marie) Fogarty and Myrtle Smale.
