Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Elizabeth Spyker (Betsy) Hanna

Elizabeth (Betsy) Spyker Hanna Elizabeth (Betsy) Spyker Hanna age 89 died January 6, 2011 at the Oaks. She was born in Battle Creek on November 22, 1921 daughter of Harry and Blanche (Wiest) Spyker. Betsy graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1940 and attended Argubright Business College. In 1944 she enlisted in the, Women's Reserve (SPARS) and was stationed in New York and Boston until 1946. After returning to Battle Creek she married Donald C. Hanna on May 18, 1946 who survives. Their only son Larry died at the age of 57 in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Evelyn Ramey, and a brother Paul Spyker. Betsy is survived by a daughter in law, Shirley Hanna, grandson Kevin Hanna and a great-granddaughter Jade Hanna. After being employed at the Federal Center for 20 years, she retired and became an avid collector of antiques, mainly Heisey glassware. She enjoyed traveling and spent several months in Florida with her husband, Don each year. Betsy was a member of the Battle Creek Historical Society, Battle Creek Health System Auxiliary and Christ United Methodist Church. At the request of the family, friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 until 1:30 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral service to celebrate Betsy's life will be held, with the Pastor Carolyn Robinson-Fisher, officiating. A private interment will be held a Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions in Betsy's honor may be made to , Lifespan Hospice or Christ United Methodist Church. The oldest of five children, Rob loved to spend summers up north with family and friends. Summers were spent fishing and roaming the woods and fields of our beautiful state. Rob graduated from Oakland University and then the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois. He worked first as an associate of George Goodheart, founder of Applied Kinesiology and later practiced privately in Birmingham for 25 years. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. Michelle M. Wenzlick St. Johns Michelle M. Wenzlick, 44 of rural St. Johns, MI died Thursday Jan. 6, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer. Michelle was born on July 31, 1965 the daughter of Melvern and Elizabeth (Nickert) Pearson. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1983 and attended LCC receiving her Associates Degree. On July 18, 1992 she married James Wenzlick in DeWitt. Michelle was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church, was a St. Johns Schools volunteer and a Girl Scout Leader. She worked as a teller at St. Johns Michigan Federal Credit Union in St. Johns. Survived by her husband Jim. Daughters Vanessa, Olivia and son Alexander Wenzlick. Mother Elizabeth Pearson of Carson City, MI. Brother, Richard (Lori) Pearson of Carson City, MI and sister Viki (Rick) Jacobsen of Newbury Park, CA. William E. Barney Lake Placid, FL William E. Barney, formerly of Battle Creek, age 90, died Friday, January 7, 2011, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. William was born on July 25, 1920, in Battle Creek, the son of Edward R. and Lucy (Dunn) Barney. On July 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Ginney Gothard who preceded him in death. He was employed with Olivers and then with Hydreco as a tool and gauge inspector retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion #25, the Eagles #4240, the Elk's and the 20th Century Bowling League. William enjoyed bowling and golf.
