Albert H. Hill, age 80, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Jan. 21, 2010, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Bartlesville, Okla., a son to the late George and Pauline (Kramer) Hill. Albert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in counter intelligence as station chief for the Pentagon’s Radio Relay Unit.  He also received a Distinguished Service Award for his continued contributions to the U.S. Military Communications Projects beyond his service career. He has been a resident of the Sturgis area the past 15 years, coming from Shipshewana, Ind., where he had resided most of his life. On Nov. 26, 1952, he married Betty Pollock.  She preceded him in death Jan. 31, 1986.  On Oct. 18, 1986, he married Darlene Cowan. He retired from G.T.E. which is now Verizon with accommodations and over 25 years of service where he worked in Communication as a Supervisor and Engineer.  He also served in many churches in Sturgis until He, his wife Pastor Darlene Hill, and Pastor Dan Lego began Servant Ministries Church, which ministers to the needy people in the community providing the word of God, food, clothing, shelter, and soup kitchen. Albert enjoyed listening to country gospel music especially Gaither Band music and videos. Surviving are his wife, Pastor Darlene Hill of Sturgis; four daughters, Pamela Jean Hill of Barstow, Calif., Vicki Sue (Jacob) Jaramillo of Sturgis, Patti Jane (Daniel) Brockway of Three Rivers, and Heather Lorain (Derek) Farber of LaGrange, Ind.; two sons, Scottie Ray (Connie) Hill of Sturgis and Nathan Paul (Christine) Hill of Elkhart, Ind.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Scott Alan Lego and Dan R. Lego, both of White Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Samuel E. Hill. The family will receive friends and relatives from 3- 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Hackman Family Funeral Home - Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091. Funeral services celebrating the life of Albert Hill will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Clark, Officiating. Graveside services will follow in Sturgis Memorial Gardens with full military rites conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post. Memorial donations may be directed to the Servant Ministries, 202 E. Hatch St., Sturgis, MI 49091. Leon Blaszczyk Leon Blaszczyk, age 90, of Sterling Heights, died January 22, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital, Grosse Pointe Farms. He was born February 19, 1919, in Sluzewo, Poland, to the late Martin and Julianna Blaszczyk. Mr. Blaszczyk was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, served with the Veterans of the Polish 2nd Corps of the British 8th Army under General Wladyslaw Anders. He retired in 1984 after 33 years with Stroh's Brewery. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen, who passed away on June 28, 2009. He is survived by his children, Susan (Dennis) Walkowiak, Janice Blaszczyk, Carol (Patrick) Domagalski, and Mary (Scott) Schellpfeffer; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, and Peter Walkowiak, Alexander and Drew Domagalski, Sara, Elise and Julia Schellpfeffer. He was also predeceased by siblings, Benedict, Mitchell and Chester Blaszczyk. Visitation will be held at Wm. Raymond Grifka Raymond Grifka, age 88 of Warren, died Friday, January 22, 2010, at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Raymond was born in Minden City, Mich. on June 4, 1921, the son of the late Frank and the late Laura Grifka. Raymond was known to many as "Ray the Barber" for over 50 years. He was also a proud World War II Navy veteran and a resident of Warren for 48 years. Raymond was the beloved husband of Ruth for 63 years. He was the dear father of Diane (Hal) Almand, Dean (Sharon), Dennis (Mary Jo), and Raymond (Michelle). He was the devoted grandfather of Steven, Lisa, Graham, Todd, Joel, Alex, Gabe, Marisa, and Ryan and great-grandfather of Candace, Samantha, Eliza, and Zachary. He was born in Centreville on Oct. 15, 1938, a son of Elwood and Maxine (Schweitzer) Lafler. Surviving Ron are his wife Marilyn (Sweet Dailey) Lafler; daughter, Kristine Hayden; son, Rodney (Shawn) Lafler, Jr., all of Three Rivers; daughters, Karrie (Todd) Stull of Sturgis, Kimberly (Danny) Hargett of Burr Oak; and eight grandchildren, Austin and Brylee Lafler, Trae White, Sarah and Isaiah Hayden, Brandon Stull, Kortney and Katrina Hargett.
