Agnes L. (Vining) Ginger Lapeer Agnes L. (Vining) Ginger, of Devonshire Village - Lapeer (formerly of Oscoda and Bonita Springs, Fla.), passed away Monday (March 23, 2009). Agnes was born September 6, 1916, in Flint, to Simeon and M. Lena Vining. She married William Allen Ginger on April 3, 1937. During her life, Agnes enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, making crafts and taught round dancing. She was a member of the Flint Fire Dept Auxiliary, The First Presbyterian Church, Lapeer and Hurley Hospital Auxiliary. Agnes was the first resident of Devonshire Apartments in Lapeer and the family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire staff there, especially Sandy. Alice Jane Sherman, 88, of Sturgis and formerly of Quincy, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Sturgis Hospital.  She was born June 10, 1920, in Van Buren Twp., Ind. to Fred and Blanche (Bowerman) Seybert. On April 5, 1942, she married Keith Sherman and they co-owned and operated Seybert’s Farm Equipment in Coldwater. She was a member of the Coldwater Presbyterian Church and the women’s organizations of the church. Survivor include: daughter Kathleen Jane Brener of Las Vegas, Nev., grandson Michael Keith Brener of North Dakota, sister Lydia Wittenberg of White Pigeon and brothers Phillip Seybert of Burr Oak and William Seybert of White Pigeon She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keith, grandson Scott Brener, great-grandson Scott Brener, and brothers Howard D. Seybert and Fred Seybert, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with Dr. James Troust officiating. Averil L. Taylor Lapeer Averil L. Taylor, 92, of Lapeer, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday (March 20, 2009). She was a lifelong resident of Lapeer and member of the First Baptist Church of Lapeer. Averil attended Lapeer High School, from which she graduated as the valedictorian of her class of 1935. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree from County Normal, then went on to achieve a Masters Degree in Education from Michigan Teachers College. She taught in the Lapeer rural school district for 33 years and advanced her teaching skills as a special education teacher in the Bentley school district. Averil thoroughly enjoyed reading and partaking in daily devotion. She also had a love for shopping and antiques. Barbara Caroline Frey, age 28, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 20, 2009, in San Francisco, CA. Barbara was loved by many for her free spirit, independence and creative personality. Barbara was born Jan. 8, 1981 in Grand Rapids . She attended Harbor Springs Schools where she enjoyed theatre and the arts. She graduated in 1999. She then attended the College for Creative Studies in Detroit where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis on digital media in graphic arts. Barbara is survived by her father, Edward J. Frey Jr. and his wife Brenda; her mother, Elizabeth Meyer Frey; and three sisters, Mary Frey Bennett (Richard) of Gainesville, Fla., Cynthia Young  (Gary) of East Hampton, Conn., and Sarah Rose (Randy) of Harbor Springs. Also surviving are four nephews and three nieces. Barbara will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Stone Funeral Home, 2098 E. Bernice M. Tobey, 83, of Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Allegiance Health in Jackson. She was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Warren, Mich., to Charles and Bertha (Sorenson) Robidue. She was married Aug. 29, 1953, to Thomas Tobey and he preceded her in death in 1992 . Bernice was a member of the Jonesville Presbyterian Church and a longtime resident of Jonesville. Surviving are three children, Laurie (Bruce) Raeburn of Shorewood, Illinois, Christine (Larry Lapeer) Tobey of Caneyville, Kentucky and Brian (Beth) Tobey of Florence, Kentucky; five grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Rosemary Darden. Memorial services will take place at a later date. There will be no visitation or calling hours at this time. She moved to Colorado in 1983 and worked as an Investment and Insurance Broker. Carol had many interests including Reading, Gardening, Mountain Hiking and playing the piano. Carol T. Gosselin, age 77, of Manitou Beach passed away at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009. Carol was born on June 28, 1931, in Detroit, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Hoenes) Tullke. She graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit with the Class of 1948. On Oct. 29, 1949, Carol married Eugene H. Gosselin in Detroit. Eugene and Carol celebrated more than 51 years of marriage prior to his death in 2001. For a brief time, Carol was a ward clerk at Henry Ford Hospital until the time of her marriage, when she chose to stay home and raise her family. She worked in catalog sales at Sears & Roebuck and also for the Lenawee Intermediate School District where she loved being with the children.  Carol’s love of children was evident throughout her life. She and Eugene were foster parents for more than 10 years. Carol was active with the PTA and Girl Scouts where she was instrumental in establishing the first troop in Lenawee County for disabled girls. She also worked with the Special Olympics. In her retirement years, Carol served as a Trustee for Rollin Township for eight years. She also delivered food from the commodity programs to the elderly and disabled, and volunteered at blood drives for the American Red Cross. A faithful member of the Rollin Center United Methodist Church, Carol was active in the United Methodist Women.  Carol is survived by her children, Sheryl Betts of Manitou Beach, Scott (Debra) Gosselin of Clayton and Sharon (Leonard) Gust of Manitou Beach; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her life-long friend, Patricia Kucharek of Taylor, Mich. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Gosselin, and a granddaughter, Emma Christine Gust. At Carol’s request cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration will take place at 11 a.m. at on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Craig Pillow officiating. Clair Edward “Pete” Piatt died Sunday morning, March 22, 2009 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo following a sudden illness.  Mr. Piatt was born May 17, 1930, in Bronson, the son of Henry C. and Bessie (Thompson) Piatt. He graduated from Bronson High School in the class of 1948. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1952 he was employed at the Studebaker auto plant in South Bend, Ind.  On Feb. 28, 1953, he married Mary Ann Newman at the First Congregational Church in Bronson. She preceded him in death on Feb.9, 1988. He then met Marilyn Shaw, who was his companion for the past 21 years. In 1953 he went to work at Bronson Tool and Die (later Bronson Specialties) until his retirement in 1993. He possessed a keen mechanical knowledge and was the lead engineer on several projects including a more efficient electrical transformer for which he earned a U.S. Patent. He was also very knowledgeable about hydraulics and built his own leaf vacuum and log splitter before either item was commonplace.  Following his retirement he remained active as a skilled carpenter and woodworker and constructed or assisted on countless buildings in the area. He enjoyed feeding wild birds and built customized birdhouses, which he gave to friends and family. He also enjoyed being the caretaker of his next-door neighbors. He also purchased and reconditioned a 1950 Chevrolet businessman’s coupe — the same model as his first automobile. He and Marilyn participated in numerous car shows and swap meets. He and Marilyn are members of the L A Breakfast Club.  He was a pitcher for many years in the Bronson Fast Pitch Softball League. In the 1970s he earned a private pilot’s license and was a shareholder in the Sturgis Flying Club based at the Kirsch Municipal Airport. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 52 in Bronson and spent 15 years as an active volunteer on the Bronson Fire Department and is now an honorary member.   He is survived by a son, Richard Piatt, of Meredith, N.H.; a daughter, Sharon Curtis and her companion, Kirk Yearling, of Coldwater; two grandsons, Nathaniel (Laura) Piatt of Coldwater and Garrett Curtis of Toledo, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Piatt, and two sisters, Thelma Rissman and Mary Ellen Wotta. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson.Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dave Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Bronson Cemetery with full military honors by the Bronson Post of the American Legion. The Michigan Patriot Guard will also stand in his honor. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Clifford Counterman, 71, of Union City and Lakeland, Fla. passed away at his home, with his wife by his side, on Sunday, March 22.  Mr Counterman was born in Coldwater to Russell and Ruth (Anthony) Counterman on May 11, 1937. He married Martha Oechsle, who survives, on June 21, 1957. They have two sons, Rick (Jenny) Counterman and Eric (Tammi) Counterman. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three great-grandsons.  In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. May 11, 2009 at Union City Assembly, 501 Division St. in Union City. He was born August 23, 1962 in Pontiac, Michigan the son of Harold and Marilyn (Bodson) Wyke. He was a 1980 graduate of Clarkston High School and moved to Marlette in 2003 from Dearborn, Michigan. Darrell married Judyth Diegel on December 28, 1995 in Sandusky, Michigan. He was a Project Manager for I.S.C.G. of Royal Oak and was certified in Haworth Furniture. Darrell was a volunteer at the Marlette VFW Post #4837. His special interests included wood working and mechanics. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his parents; Harold and Marilyn Wyke of Clarkston, one son; Brandon Wyke of Clarkston, two sisters; Rochelle & Terry Beiser of Jackson, Lisa & Mark Keel of Clarkston, hisbeloved Uncle of Dustin, Dillon, Abigail Keel and Christie Allen. Morgan and her partner, Lisa Thompson, of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Karma D. Talaski 1932-2009 Dorlene Clara Talaski, 76, Rapson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at her home, while under hospice care, with her family by her side. She was born on September 10, 1932 in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Peter and Anastasia (Peyerk) Goniwicha. She was united in marriage to Elmer Talaski in August of 1953 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. She enjoyed her yearly trips with the girls, playing cards, listening to the "polka party," baking, dancing and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Elmer Talaski, Rapson; three sons, Roger (Deb) Talaski, Bad Axe, Rick (Linda) Talaski, Bad Axe and Ron (Brenda) Talaski, Bad Axe; four daughters, Lori (Tony) Dubs, Kinde, Lynn (Dennis) Engelhardt, Lake Orion, Lana (Jim) Lopiccola, Sterling Heights and Lois Talaski, Bad Axe and her special friend, Bill Basner, Rapson; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ilene Thrushman, Shirley Young and Sandy Goniwicha and three brothers, Leonard, Jerry and Peter Goniwicha. Dr. Lothar E. Geipel, age 82 of Adrian passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. Lothar was born Jan. 28, 1927 in Joliet, Ill., the only son of Walter and Frieda (Stoehr) Geipel. Lothar served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps weather service as an observer and forecaster. After graduating from high school in LaGrange, Ill., Lothar continued his education at the University of Illinois where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He received both his Master of Science degree and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Iowa. On May 31, 1958, Lothar married Mariene E. Metcalf in Santa Rosa, Calif. Mariene and Lothar celebrated 46 years of marriage prior to her death in 2005. Lothar moved his family to Adrian to work as a scientist for Stauffer Chemical for many years. He also did consulting for Faraday. Lothar was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Adrian where he served on the property committee, as a deacon, and was an active member of the Men’s Group and the Prayer Group. He was also a member of the Society of the Sigma Xi and Phi Lambda Upsilon Chemical Society. Lothar is survived by two daughters, Erika (David) Tutwiler of Riverside, Calif., and Lisa Rickaby of Adrian; and 10 grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan and Lynse Rickaby, Nicole, Matthew, Benjamin and Heidi Schoepf, and Joshua, Bethany and Rebekah Tutwiler. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Esther Geipel and Ruth Hendley. The funeral service for Lothar will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Oxtoby officiating. His light-hearted outlook on life could be seen up to the very end of his life. Edward Roy Guajardo,  72 of Litchfield, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009,  at the Community Health Center of Branch County, Coldwater.  He was born Feb. 12, 1937, in Ranger, Texas, to Phillip G. and Sophia (Ramirez) Guajardo. Ed had been employed at Simpson Stamping and the Litchfield Grain Company and enjoyed fishing and crafts.  On May 5, 1959, he married Mary Ann Biglow and she survives. Also surviving are his children: Edward (Betty) Guajardo, Jr.,  Litchfield, William Guajardo, Hillsdale, Rita Guajardo, Litchfield; a sister,  Mary Soto, Chicago, Ill.;  four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters. Edward was born on June 2, 1929, in Franklin Township, Mich., the son of Charles and Hattie (Barnhart) Pfund. Edward was married to Joan Neri. She survives. Edward served in the United States Army. He worked for Blissfield Manufacturing Company for 48 years. Edward was also a member of the Zion United Brethren Church in Ogden. Surviving is his wife, Joan Pfund of Blissfield; a stepdaughter, Denise Forche of Riga; two stepgrandchildren, Billy and Haley Neri of Riga; three brothers, Robert Pfund of Adrian, Richard (Ann) Pfund of Florida and Don (Bet) Pfund of Morenci; one sister, Irene Moran of Morenci, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Edward will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield with the Rev. Aden Porter officiating. Esther Ann Molenaar (Sopjes), a longtime resident of Holland, died on March 25, 2009.    Esther was born in Kalamazoo to the late Peter Sopjes and Cornelia (Booden) Sopjes in 1934.  She graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1951.   Esther studied organ under Dr. Glenn Henderson, Dr. Arnolds Kalnajs, and Dr. Roger Davis (Hope College).    She served as the organist at Fourth Reformed Church in Kalamazoo and Christ Memorial Reformed Church in Holland for 38 years.  Esther served as a Congregational Care Elder at Christ Memorial.    She worked in the Development Department at Hope College for several years.   She married Harold Edwin Molenaar, also from Kalamazoo.    Esther and Harold have two children, Daniel S. (Susan) Molenaar, Portage, and William M. (Astrida) Molenaar, East Grand Rapids.     Esther was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Edith DeBoer; brother, Frederick  Sopjes; sister-in-law, Leona Sopjes; grandson, Oliver K. Molenaar; and brother-in-law, Bert Blodgett.   She is survived by her husband; sons; daughters-in-law; grandchildren, Derek S., Ellen M., Aleksandrs D., Erik C., brother, Robert (Phyllis) Sopjes; brother, Richard (Wilma) Sopjes; sister, Betty (Vern) Lewis; and brother-in-law, Paul DeBoer.  Esther is also survived by her mother-in-law, Esther I. Molenaar; brother-in-law, Roger (Judy) Molenaar; and sister-in-law, Barb Blodgett (friend Steve); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Esther fought courageously against cancer and was a role model in her grace and dignity.   Her personal motto was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13).    She wanted to live for her husband, children, and grandchildren.  A memorial service will be on Saturday, March 28, at Christ Memorial Reformed Church, 595 Graafschap Road, Holland at 11:00 am.   Visitation will be at Notier-VerLee- Langeland Funeral Chapel, 315 East 16th Street, Holland, on Friday, March 27 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Oliver Molenaar Scholarship (Central College, IA) or the Molenaar Scholarship (Hope College).  An online registry is available at www.notierverleelangeland.com.

Geneva Joyce Bender, 66, of 12439 CR 26 Middlebury, Ind., died Monday, March 23, 2009, at IU Medical Center Indianapolis. Geneva had been in declining health the past year and a half while waiting for a liver transplant. She was grateful for the 15 years that she was able to spend with her family and friends following her first liver transplant. She was born Feb. 21, 1943 in Rolette, N.D., to Ezra and Gladys (Bontrager) Gingerich. She lived most of her life around this area. On April 21, 1962 in Elkhart County, Ind.,  she married Eugene “Gene” Bender, he survives. She was a homemaker and worked as a custodian for the Middlebury Community School Systems. She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Middlebury where she had taught both Sunday School and Bible School. She also loved to watch her grandchildren’s sporting events and to spend time with her sisters singing. Surviving in addition to her husband, are three daughters, Debra Sue (George) Smith of White Pigeon, Mich., Sheila Renae (Vince) Hostetler of Middlebury, Ind., Crystal  Dawn (Jay) Christner of Middlebury, Ind.; a son, Darin Eugene (Wanita) Bender of Goshen, Ind.; 10 grandchildren;  three sisters, Marie (Elroy) Miller of Millersburg, Ind., Viola (Ned) Miller of Goshen, Ind., and Carol (Gerald) Beachy of Millersburg, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents;  a brother, Marvin Gingerich; and a grandson, Ryan Bender. George Munro Carmickle, 79, of Tekonsha, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at his home. He was born April 16, 1929 to Daniel Lewis and Mary Lee (McMackins) Carmickle in Maynard, Ark. On Jan. 26, 1952, he married Mary G. Aton in Angola, Ind. George is survived by his wife Mary; son Patrick (Sharilyn) Carmickle and daughter Lynett (Rick) Thompson, both of Tekonsha; grandchildren Dan (Jamie) Hawver, Ben (Jeannie) Hawver and Steven Hayes; great-grandson Brady Hawver; sister Lucy Roger of Washington and brothers David Carmickle and Leroy Carmickle, both of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents. George was a member of the Masonic Lodge #421 of Sherwood, the American Legion Post #298 of Battle Creek and he attended the Tekonsha Baptist Church. He loved to fly, fish and ride motorcycles — of which he owned 13 Harleys. George was always ready to help anybody. He especially loved his dog, Duke. The visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tekonsha. The service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. George Aton and Pastor Kim Wilcox officiating. TERRILL, GEORGE E. JR. - Age 59, of Vandercook Lake, formerly of Hudson, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at his home with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer. He was born October 14, 1949 in Washington D.C. to George E. and Evelyn (Taylor) Terrill. He married Claudette Double (Sam) on March 24, 1969 and she survives. George lived his early life in many countries around the world, as his father was in the military. He attended Hudson High School. He was a Machine Operator for 31 years at Michigan Extruded Aluminum in Jackson before retiring in 2006. He lived in Vandercook Lake or the past 16 years. George was an avid motorcyclist and many of his memories were riding his Harley with the wind against his face. His greatest joys were spent with his best friend and wife of 40 years Claudette, his children and especially his grandbaby's. Surviving besides his wife Claudette, are one son, George E. Terrill III and his companion Holly Williamson and her children Gabriel and C.J. (Scout) of Addison; one daughter, Cristy (Patrick) Frohm and their sons, Andrew and Brady Frohm; one granddaughter, Haiden Terrill of Rhode Island; one sister, Sharon (Randy) Young of Muskegon, MI; brother-in-law, David (Dawn) Double of Adrian, Bill (Sue) Double of Quincy, MI, Ed Double of Fayette, OH, Mike Double of Adrian MI; neices, Kimberly (Mark) Yonish of Stockbridge MI, and Chantelle (David) Jenkins of Fairfield MI and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his little brother, Mike Terrill; and mother-in-law, Edna Double. George was a strong man who had fought so hard and took his last breath on his 40th Wedding Anniversary with his wife and children by his side. The family would like to express gratitude to Allegiance Hospice and especially his nurse Vicki Urbaniak for all the comfort and support that was given. On Feb. 21, 1947, in Angola, Ind.,  she married Clifford W. Dunham Sr. He passed away June 15, 1990. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. (Cindy) Dunham Jr. of Bronson; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Pauline Bowman of Florida and Sadibelle Hardy of Burr Oak, Mich. Glenn “Scratch” Scroggie, age 84, of Adrian passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. Glenn was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Adrian, the son of John and Dora (Smith) Scroggie. Scratch, as he was known by his co-workers, worked at Consumers Power Company for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting.  Glenn is survived by his son, Kevin, and a sister, Bernice Minster, both of Adrian. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Hohler, Florence Jordan and Grace Rodgers; his brother, Russell Scroggie, and two brothers in infancy. She was married June 26, 1948 to Gene Lennard and he survives. Grace was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale. She was better known as the "strawberry lady".  She was a farmer's wife for 60 years and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for 30 years. Surviving besides her husband Gene are two daughters Judy (Ray) Domire of Delaware, Ohio and Cathy (Joe) Reinke of Midland; son, Robert (June) Lennard of Reading; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Alvin) Schmidt of Osseo and Lois (John) Ross of Long Island, N.Y.; and brother, Ernest (Lillian) LaPointe of Ottawa Lake, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. A mass of Christian Burial for Grace Lennard will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. Ioane Sigarara as celebrant. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Reading. Howard P. Morris, age 90 of Tecumseh passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Tendercare Health Center of Adrian. Howard was born May 1, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., the son of Claude and Ruth (Davis) Morris. During World War II, Howard served his country in the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 31, 1944, Howard married Beulah E. Truesdale in Chicago.  Howard and Beulah celebrated 62 years of marriage prior to her death in 2007. A certified Master Mechanic, Howard worked for Art Stowell Oldsmobile in Dundee for many years before retiring in 1982.  Howard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh.  Howard and Beulah enjoyed traveling extensively in the United States in their RV. In their retirement, they joined White Pine Travelers and spent summers camping all over Michigan.  Howard is survived by two daughters, Peg Keffer of Adrian and Pat (Neal) Oxman of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Kenneth M. (Jennifer) Keffer and Nicole (Greg) Suggs; and five great-grandchildren, Emily, Allison, Braxton, Tristan and Colton. In addition to his wife, Howard was preceded in death by his brother, Darwin Morris, and his sister, Doris Kengott. Together, they owned and operated the Paul Anderson Insurance Agency in Reading, retiring in 1985.  Johann was a member of the Reading United Methodist Church and later attended the Mt. Union Christian Union Church.  She had also been active in the Reading Ladies Shakespeare Club, the Mothers’ Club, and volunteered at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. Survivors include one daughter, Jane (Doug) Snyder of Montpelier, Ohio; one son, John (Ruth) Fink of Vicksburg; one sister, Nancy (Gene) McMurtry of Bainbridge, Ind., one brother, Richard Dean Anderson of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Dospoy. Kyle R. Desmond, 24, Coldwater, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born Feb. 2 1985 in Coldwater to James and Sara (Carlisle) Desmond. Kyle graduated from Quincy High School in 2004 and then studied at Kellogg Community College. Kyle was active in sports and had been the captain and manager of both the Quincy High School football and baseball teams. He had a tremendous amount of spirit and gave deep commitment to anything he did. In his honor, the school created the “Kyle Desmond Award” for high school baseball, an award that is based on inspiration, character and leadership. Kyle volunteered at the Community Health Center and was an avid Detroit sports fan. He enjoyed playing Xbox and racing his radio controlled cars. Most of all, Kyle enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake and venturing out on their pontoon boat. Kyle was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lucille and Vincent Desmond. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Sara Desmond of Coldwater; his sister, Brittni Desmond of Coldwater; maternal grandparents, George and Sue Carlisle of Hillsdale; aunts and uncles, Bob and Diane Feidler of Clearwater, Fla., Chris and Suzanne Carlisle of Canton and Dave and Betsy Carlisle of Austin, Texas. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater and also on Thursday from 9 - 11 a.m. prior to the service. Lou Wanda (Guza) Armstead, 56, of Sheridan Township, died Friday Aug. 29, 2008 in Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe., She was born Feb. 21, 1952 in Cass City, daughter of William and Wanda (Billot) Kipp., She married Leon F. Guza in 1970 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Parisville. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1999., She is a graduate of Sandusky High School. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. She enjoyed cats, crafts, gardening, needle work, and visiting with family and friends., Lou Wanda is survived by two daughters, Jane Ann (David) Sadro of Ubly, and Theresa (Dan) Hill of Bad Axe; two sons, Eugene Guza of Bad Axe, and Leon Guza Jr. and Karan of Bad Axe; and nine grandchildren, Justin and Daniel Sadro, Sarah and Kelsey Hill, Sloan, Kelsie and Darian Gross, and Rayne and Sommer Guza. Lou Wanda also is survived by her parents, William and Wanda Kipp of Snover; one brother, Joseph (Sandy) Kipp of Marlette; and one sister, Betty (Dennis) Mausolf-Scharrer of Ruth., Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 3, 2008 in the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, with the Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Bad Axe officiating., Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday. Loyal J. Lewis, age 84, of Tecumseh passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at his home. Loyal was born June 23, 1924, in Adrian, the son of Roy and Lileth (Hall) Lewis. He was a U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II. On June 24, 1942, Loyal married Emma Mae “Babe” Smith in Adrian. Loyal and Babe celebrated 48 years of marriage before her death in 1990. Loyal worked for Adrian Tankage for many years prior to working for Ford Motor Company in Saline where he retired in 1989. In the 1940s he was a volunteer for the Palmyra Fire Department.  Loyal was a life member of the VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584, a former member of the American Legion, the Farmers Antique Tractor and Engine Club and the Maple City Swingers. Surviving Loyal are his children, Loyal L. Lewis of Florida, Mel (Jane) Lewis of Tecumseh and Cindy Jaqua (David) of Adrian; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Charles Lewis of Tecumseh, and an aunt, Gladys Smith of Adrian. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Hay. The funeral service for Loyal will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Art Horn officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian with military honors conducted by Michigan National Guardsmen from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs located in Lansing. Lynn Farley, 72, of Morenci went home in the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, Ohio. He was born on May 21, 1936, in Seneca Township, the son of Lewis and Gladys (Horn) Farley. On June 20, 1964, in Morenci, he married Kathleen Keller and she survives. Lynn was a life-long Morenci area resident, attended Jackson Community College and graduated from Morenci High School Class of 1955. He retired from Tecumseh Products in 1999, after 42 years of service and from Goodwill Industries in Adrian in 2009, with more than nine years of service. Lynn was a very active member of Morenci Bible Fellowship Church, Men’s Promise Keepers, was involved in the Morenci Schools Mentoring Program, 4-H Leader, enjoyed traveling and was a devoted husband who dearly loved his children and grandchildren. Surviving Lynn, besides his wife, Kathleen, are three daughters, Dawn (Mitch) Blonde of Adrian, Kimberly (Scott) Bower of Britton and Lynn Ann Farley of Marshall, Mich.; five grandchildren, Grace and Grant Blonde and Megan, Sara and Ava Bower. He was preceded in death by his parents and a foster brother, Norman Holmes. A funeral service for Lynn will be Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Morenci Bible Fellowship Church with the Rev. James Yatzek officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.  Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci and on Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service. She was born November 19, 1945 in Sandusky, Michigan the daughter of the late James and Verna (McGlennon) Jones. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1963 graduate of Sandusky High School. She was a member of the Sandusky Eastern Star #273 and the McKenzie Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Mary Lou married Wayne E. Liebler on August 20, 1966 at the St. Johns Episcopal Church in Sandusky. Margaret Louise Green, age 80, of Athens, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills following a long illness.   She was born in Albion, Mich., on Nov. 11, 1928, the daughter of Nelson F. and Eleanor Ludlow (Dean) Bornor.  Margaret graduated from Athens High School in 1946 where she was valedictorian of her class.  She later graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1949 as a registered nurse.   Margaret was married to Carl Green on June 21, 1950.  They resided in Mendon for over 30 years where Margaret was a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher.  She was  employed at Leila, Grace, and Three Rivers hospitals before going to work for Doctors Smith and Bradley at the Colon Clinic.  She worked there for 25 years, retiring in 1988. In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and golf.  She and her family were hosts to two foreign exchange students in the early ‘70s, and were instrumental in the construction of the John Green Memorial Track at Mendon High School. Following her retirement she and her husband wintered in Zephyrhills where Margaret ran the park Blood Pressure Program for 12 years.   Margaret is survived by her husband of 59 years, Carl;  a son, Daniel Green (Gayle) of Portage; two daughters, Deborah Austin of Athens, and Laura Green of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren, Lisa Loker (Chris), Ryan Austin (Melissa), Brent Austin (Deanne), Monica Green, Jeremiah Green (Jill), Samantha Green, and Elizabeth Green; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Danville and C. Lenore Fuller; one brother, William Bornor; nieces and nephews; and former foreign exchange students, Juhani Jarvi and Marlene Luyten. She was preceded in death by a son, John Green in 1970; a daughter, Barbara Ann Green in 1978; a son-in-law, Kenneth Austin in 2004; a brother, Maurice Bornor; and a sister, Betty Warren. Preceding in death are her parents and one grandson, Drew. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Angola. She graduated from Jackson Community College. She loved spending time with her grandson. She also enjoyed traveling, photography and bowling. Mary Jean Herman, 80, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, March 23, 2009, at her home. She was born April 1, 1928, in Burr Oak, Mich., a daughter to the late Victor and Mary (Hanson) Boyer. Jean had resided in the Burr Oak and Sturgis area most of her life. On July 23, 1948, she married Fred Herman in Burr Oak. He died May 2, 2002. Jean was a homemaker and member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a graduate of Lindenwood University with the class of 1950 where she received her associates degree in business. Jean is survived by one son; Joe (Tina) Herman of Mishawaka, Ind.; three grandsons, Danny Herman and Jeff Herman, both of Sturgis, Mich., and Cody Herman of Mishawaka, Ind., and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband; one son, Jeff Herman; and two sisters, Louise Cobb and Margaret Ann Goble preceded her in death. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or services. Private placement of the ashes will take place at the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Stephen Fillion, pastor of the St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, officiated. Age 71 of Holly, MI, passed away in her home on Monday March 23, 2009 following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 5, 1937 in Leechburg, PA, the daughter of the late Nathanial "Ted" and Velma Knepshield. Natalene graduated from the University of Indiana Pennsylvania in 1959, and received her master's degree in 1988 from Saginaw Valley State University. She was a member of St. Rita Parish in Holly. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling. Natalene taught school in Washington D.C. and Leechburg, PA, before moving to Michigan. She was employed by the Centerline School District as a teacher from 1966 until 1998 when she retired. During her retirement she substituted in various local school districts while traveling extensively through Italy and Australia. She is survived by her husband Daniel, son Michael (Anne) Nitoski of Troy and two grandchildren Noah and Mikayla and by her two sisters Donna Kuhn of Natrona Heights, PA, and Phyllis Williams of Wimberly, TX. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her two brothers David and Ralph Knepshield. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 4571 John R., Troy, MI at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009.The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. Interment will be at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Nancy P. Neal, age 71 of Mendon, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo where she had been a patient for four days.  She was born in Three Rivers on March 14, 1938, the daughter of the late Roland and Audrey (Whited) Pritchard and was a lifetime resident of this area.  Nancy graduated from Three Rivers High School, and later from Michigan State University where she received her masters degree in childhood education.  She also attended Western Michigan University while working toward her doctorate degree.  Nancy was a teacher in the Portage School system for 39 years, mostly at the Angling Road School.  Her specialty was reading program development, and she was a consultant for Amish schools and home school programs.  In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, and flower arranging.  She had an appreciation for all kinds of music, and was a Cantor at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon. Nancy was married to her long-time friend, John Neal on March 25, 1995 in St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon.  He survives, along with two aunts, Pauline Christensen of Lansing and Marie Storey (Glenn) of Three Rivers; one uncle, Robert Pritchard (Kay) of Tennessee; and cousins Linda Browning of Lansing, Sandra Sandberg of Gawen, Cathy Patterson of Greenville, and Susanne Cudney of Lansing. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon where the Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday.  The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. Paul A. Traxler, 81, Quincy, passed away at his home, March 22, 2009. He was born in Edon, Ohio on Feb. 3, 1928 to Alva and Corda (Mocherman) Traxler. Paul married Laura R. (Anderson) in Kinderhook Township on Nov. 5, 1949 with this year being their 60th anniversary. Paul worked for Tri-State Co-Op in Montgomery, Douglas Manufacturing in Bronson, Quincy Products, Corning Glass of Albion and retired in 1993 from Phillips Steel of Coldwater. He attended Montgomery School Systems and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, puzzle books, playing cards and reading, and spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed. Paul is survived by his wife, Laura; seven daughters, Raynae Hammond of Plymouth, Ind., Tonja and Nelson Curtis of Quincy, Mitzi and Terry Bennett of Portland, Ore., Roxie Traxler of Quincy, Robin Carr of Warsaw, Ind., Cindy and Terry Nabakowski of Medical Lake, Wash., Elley Kunert of Coldwater; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Sharp of Hillsdale and Mary Horney of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Richard “Dick” and Helen Traxler of Camden, Donald “Gene” and Pat Traxler of Montgomery. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul L. Traxler; brothers, Ronald (Tom) Traxler, Lawrence Traxler; sisters, Judy, Edith, Leona, Wanda Lee and Laurabelle. Pauline  N.  Placatka, age 93, of Bronson, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Lifespan Hospice House in Battle Creek. She had been in failing health. Pauline was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Oakville, Iowa, daughter of Kramer Mathias and Kathryn (Johnson) Spitznogel and was raised in the Muscatine, Iowa area. She married James Frank Placatka in 1937 and the couple moved to Bronson in 1944. James died in September, 1997. In her early years, Pauline had worked at the Heinz Tomato Factory and at Bonwit Teller, both in the Davenport, Iowa area. After her marriage, she became a home maker and was known for her artistic skills, especially for her paintings for which she won many awards. Her crowning achievement was a first place at the University of Michigan Art Museum. She also enjoyed knitting, flower gardens and golfing. Pauline was a former member of the O.E.S., the Bronson Women’s Club where she was involved in the Bronson Civic Theatre, the Bronson Community Choir, the Sit and Knit Group and was a member of the Bronson Ladies Golf League. She was also a Girl scout leader for many years and had kept the same group of girls for her entire tenure. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Robert Cline of Sherwood; her sons, James Placatka of Bronson and David Placatka of Sherwood; grandchildren, Christopher Cline and Ryan Cline and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; a grandson David Placatka; and her sister Ruth. According to her wishes, cremation will take place.  A memorial service will be planned later this spring.  Arrangements are by the Kolcz Funeral Home of Bronson. Memorial donations are suggested to the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice House in Battle Creek, Mich.

Richard was united in marriage on September 6, 1975, to the former Ryann Smith who survives. Richard retired from Conrail Railroad as a conductor/brakeman, where he was employed for over 37 years. He enjoyed many years of fishing with his friend Dale Boris and he enjoyed going to the Borgess Health and Fitness Center. He leaves a lifetime friend, Tom Jackson of Plainwell. Richard L. Noble Lapeer Richard L. Noble, 76, of Lapeer (formerly of Shelby Township), passed away on Saturday (March 21, 2009) surrounded by his loving family. Following a courageous fight, his heart weakened, but his spirit remains strong and will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was born November 10, 1932, in Detroit, to Hubert and Alice (Hurst) Noble. He married Grace Campbell on June 30, 1956 in Waterford. Mr. Noble served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired after 30 years, from GMC Truck & Coach as a materials scheduler. He earned a Masters Degree from U of D. Richard was proud to be a successful kidney transplant recipient of 12 years. He was a member of both the Macomb County Retirees as well as the Sundowners - RV Clubs. He was born March 15, 1942 to Lloyd and Loma (Putnam) Cloutier in Marlette. He married Betty Tallieu on February 14, 1991 in Lapeer. Thomas loved to fish and build bird houses. He also enjoyed puttering around on his golf cart and tractor while tending to his vegetable and flower gardens and taking care of the pond. In addition Thomas raised many animals such as, cows, chickens and pigs. His greatest joy was his family and friends. He loved to gather his family together at Easter and have Easter egg hunts. Eileen was born Aug. 24, 1941, in Benzonia, the daughter of the late Emery and Leah (Price) Griffin. She attended Benzonia High School. On June 4, 1977, Eileen married Billy L. Stroup at the Herring Lake Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crosswords and playing cards. “Julie” Eleanor Spillar, 77, originally of Sturgis, passed on March 22, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was a avid bridge player and was active in the Salvation Army and the Garden Club. Julie will be missed by husband, Robert; son, Robert (Cindy) A. Spillar of Irvine, Calif.; daughters, Nancy Spillar of Tulsa, Okla., and Susan (Mike) House of Urbandale, Iowa; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Julia Bodnar. Private services will be held at a later date.
