Anne M. Gleason

Anne M. Gleason Lansing Age 61, born May 16, 1948, died Monday, Sept 14, 2009 from lung cancer. Anne was the voice in Mid-Michigan; to promote awareness regarding the dangers of drinking and driving; after the death of her son Joseph in 1992. She worked as an advocate for MADD, the Ingham County Sheriffs Office, the Lansing Police Department and later founded her own business, the Mid-Michigan Impact Panels. She trained several law enforcement and social service agencies on the topic of "Operating While Intoxicated". She is preceded in death by her parents Horace & Martha LaFramboise, her sons Joseph Charbonneau & Eliot Gleason, brothers Vic, Ben, Larry, Joe, Bob and Raymond, and sister, Marie. Surviving are her son Michael (Deborah), and daughter Renee and grandchildren, Micole, Mandi, Michael, Joey, Laney, Niko, Anastasia and great-grandchild Caliana and numerous "adopted" children and grandchildren. Anne is also survived by several of her siblings: Al (Dolores), Bernadette (Mike), Therese (Tom), Vince (Joy), Chuck (Carol), Rich (Barb). She will be sorely missed by everyone whose life she touched. Anne's memorial service will be held at St Therese Church on Saturday September 19, 2009 at 2 p.m.

Betty J. Morehead, 86, of Hudson, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 12, 2009, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian. She was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Hudson, the daughter of Ray and Gladys (Bowman) Climo. Betty was a life-long Hudson area resident and graduated from Hudson Class of 1941. She was a member of the Hudson Senior Citizens and the Open Door Bible Church in Hudson. Surviving Betty are one brother, Joe (Phyllis) Climo of Lakeland, Florida, brother-in-law, Rev. Gerald Hephner of Temperance; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janet Hephner. At Betty’s request there will be no visitation or services. Private burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. Local arrangements were entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.

Carol was a probation assistant for LaGrange County and was employed at the Department of Child Services in LaGrange. She was also a school bus driver for Sturgis Schools for 19 years.  She attended the Howe United Methodist Church.                Surviving are two sons, Mark A. Stump of White Pigeon and Matthew A. (Beverly) Stump of Cincinnati; one sister, Mrs. Tom (Sherry)Mason of Howe, Ind.; three grandsons, Kaleb Stump, Tyler Hall and Austin Hall and special friend, Otis Stahl of Sturgis. She was preceded in death by her parents. A graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Riverside Cemetery in Howe, Ind. with the Rev. Kenneth Weaver officiating. Daniel H. “Big Dan” Colvin, Sr., age 62, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon Sept. 11, 2009, at the Sturgis Hospital emergency room. He was born Dec. 11, 1946, in Plainwell, a son of the late Quentin Franklin and Wanda June (Shurlow) Colvin. Dan had resided in Sturgis since 1963. His early life was spent in Augusta. On June 1, 1965, he married Carolyn Jenner in Augusta. Nearly all of Dan’s working life was with the Sturgis Foundry. He enjoyed working on cars, racing cars and attending auto races. Dan never met a stranger and was happiest when he was interacting with others especially over a cup of coffee. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 44 years, Carolyn; one daughter, Shawna Colvin of Sturgis;  two sons, Daniel Colvin, Jr. and Joshua Colvin, both of Sturgis; three grandchildren, Morgan Sahli of Sturgis, Emily Colvin of Three Rivers and Mariah Carls of Sturgis;  one great-grandson, Gage; three sisters, Mardie (Keith) Wilson of Kalamazoo, Marilyn (Mike) Needham of Augusta and Sue (Joe) Wittman of Kalamazoo; one brother, Melvin Colvin of Augusta and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Frances was a graduate of Annunciation High School in Detroit and was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale.  She loved movies, swimming, fishing and ice cream.  She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.  Her favorite saying was ‘If I had it to do all over again, I would do less housework.” Frances is survived by, three daughters, Kathleen (Donald) Wieland of Ann Arbor, Mary Ann (Jim) Matthews of Mahomet, Illinois, Peggy Taffe of San Francisco, Calif..; three sons, Frank (Charlotte) Taffe of Warren, Terence (Eva) Taffe of Onaway and Timothy Taffe of Hillsdale; a sister, Kathleen Schulte of Caseville; a brother Steve (Barbara) Shea of Brighton; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband Leo, she was preceded in death by her parents;; a son, Thomas Leo; two grandsons, John Matthews and Tim Bryan; three brothers, Jake, Michael and Vincent; four sisters, Margaret, Betty, Carmel and Pat. A mass of Christian burial for Frances Taffe was celebrated Monday. Helen M. “Pat” Head, 88, of Adrian, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of Lenawee. She was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Morenci, to Walter and Lucille Raymond. She had been employed by Stubnitz Green for 32 years. Pat enjoyed bowling and participated in many bowling tournaments, where she earned several trophies. She used to ride in rodeos and even square danced while riding her horse. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1584, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 2371. Pat had been a crossing guard for Garfield Elementary School. Pat is survived by a son, Arthur Head Jr. of Moab, Utah; a daughter, Pat Wisecup of Waldron; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a daughter, by heart, and confidant, Vickie Atkinson, of Adrian. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Viola; a brother, Homer Raymond; and her longtime companion, Cal Suydam. Funeral services for Pat will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Robert Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Dover Center Cemetery. She was born May 9, 1906, in Williams County, Ohio, to Leo and Harriett (Rawlston) Reiniche. She was married April 17, 1926, to Gilbert Martin and he preceded her in death in 1959. She later married Carl Pickell on Oct 30, 1965 and he preceded her in death in 1986. Helen retired from Hillsdale College where she was employed in the housekeeping department. She was a former employee of Harvard Clothing. She was a graduate of Frontier High School and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Hillsdale. Surviving are a son, Richard (Shirley) Martin of Montpelier, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Dorothy (John) Mayer of Horton; daughters-in-law, Dorothy Martin and Rosemarie Schneider, both of Hillsdale. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sons Ralph and Robert, a stepson Raymond, a sister, five brothers, and a grandson.  A mass of Christian burial for Helen Pickell will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. Thomas Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. James Earl Spencer, aged 68 of Branch, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 at his home.   Jim was born on March 17, 1941 in Sturgis to Walter James “Nick” and Alta Mae (Whitehead) Spencer, and graduated from Union City High School with the class of 1959. On Oct. 5, 1963, he married Virginia Barber at the Union City Congregational Church and they have celebrated 46 wonderful years together.   Jim worked for the Village of Union City Public Works Department from the day he graduated high school, until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1999. He and Virginia moved to Branch following his retirement and have enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and boating. Jim also loved raising many animals on their farm, and had a great sense of adventure, especially when it came to farming. His family and friends will remember him as a man of great character and faith.   He leaves behind his wife Virginia, his son Robert and Korrina Spencer of Branch; his daughter Leanne and Chad Heuer of Marshall; his beloved grandchildren Brittney and Chelsea Mack, Kaylea, Kinzie, Hunter, and Fischer Spencer; his sisters Suzanne Jenkins of Union City, and Cindy and Russell Vogel of Lakeland, Fla.; his nephew James Jackson of Battle Creek; and his nieces Nicole Johansson of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Danielle Knowles of Cordova, Tenn.  He was preceded in death by his parents.   Jim and Virginia were members of the Bachelor Evangelical Covenant Church in Fountain where services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. with his pastors Norm Letsinger, and Leo Anderson officiating. James L. Adams, Jr., age 76‚ Centreville, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home. He was born in Kalamazoo on July 20, 1933, a son of James L. and Thelma (Huber) Adams Sr. Jim graduated from Centreville High School in 1952 and attended Michigan State University. On May 2, 1953, he married Marilyn Stumpf in Three Rivers. Jim served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 as a tank commander for 14 months during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Three Rivers. Jim owned and operated Adams Excavating in  Centreville for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He continued to work in the business with his son, Scott, following retirement. Jim was a member of the Centreville Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 30 years and served as a village trustee from 1966 to 1977 and from 1978 until 1986 he acted as village president on the council. Jim loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, camping and working in his yard and garden. Surviving are his wife Marilyn Adams, Centreville; daughters Becky Kurtzman of Battle Creek, Lisa (John) Youga of Centreville; sons Scott (Patti) Adams of Centreville, Mark (Gaylene) Adams of Three Rivers; brother Jerry (Rosemary) Adams of Centreville; grandchildren Alecia (Todd) Flynn, James Kurtzman, Carrisa Adams, Sam Adams, Amy Adams, Adam Johnson, Michael Youga and Lyndsey Youga; great-granddaughter Gracie Flynn; four step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Shortly after his first birthday, he came to Tecumseh to live with his cousin, Dondi Patterson, and Great-Great Aunt Betty Patterson. He lived in this area for almost three years, where he attended The Porter Center. In October of 2008, Joshua went to live with and become part of a family in Edon, Ohio. He was adopted by John and Jennifer Wodarski-Felt. He then had five siblings: Jory, Kenyon and Dorian, Sawyer, and one little sister, Harli. Joshua overcame so many obstacles in his short life. We will miss him and his infectious laugh, so very much. He brought so much sunshine and to our lives. Joshua is survived by those mentioned above, except Dale Fisher and Brandon Berry who proceeded him in death. In addition, there are two more living grandmothers, Patricia Wodarski and Maxine Varwig. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the Clinton United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Thomas Uphaus officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh, following the service. There will be a lunch after the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations my be given to Dondi Patterson, to purchase a stone for Joshua.

Kenneth J. Norton, age 64, of Colon, passed away  unexpectedly  Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home. Ken was born May 29, 1945, in Coldwater, a son of the late Charles Rex and Margaret (Hawver) Norton. Ken had lived most of his life in Colon and had graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1964. He had worked in law enforcement, starting out with the Bronson Police Department. He later worked as an officer for the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and was also Chief of Police for Colon for 17 years, retiring in 2006. Ken was currently employed at Palamino Industries of Colon. Ken had attended the Colon Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his children, Kevin (Karen) Norton of Leonidas, Kenny (Sharon) Norton of Sturgis; Kim (Brad) Neveraski of Elkhart, Ind., J.J Norton and companion Sara of Ohio, Kelsey Norton, Shane Norton and Megan Norton, all of Colon; friend and companion Sue Ellen Snyder of Colon; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Carla K. (Brian Barnes) Norton of Kokomo, Ind., and Jo Ann (Wayne) Desness of Kalamazoo; a brother, Charles R. Norton of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Taylor Nereraski. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Kenneth J. Norton will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Colon Baptist Church, with Pastor Robert Baxter officiating. Cremation will follow. Private interment of cremains will take place at a later date at Matteson Township Cemetery. If desired, the family asks memorials be made in memory of Ken to the Colon Baptist Church. Lee Wilson Taylor, “Mr. T,” age 87, of Tecumseh, formerly of Britton, passed away Sept. 15, 2009, at home. Lee was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Britton, the son of Ernest and Myrtle (Lee) Taylor. He married Irene Allegrina who preceded him in death in 1975. In November of 1985 he married Peggy (Martin) Taylor who survives. Lee was a well-known farmer in the Britton area.  He and his first wife, Irene, founded L & I Leasing, a trucking company, which he later sold. His passions were farming, riding his Harley-Davidson, fishing, vacationing in Florida, traveling with Ollie’s group, and taking his family on Christmas cruises in the Caribbean and Mexico. Lee served on the Board of Directors for United Savings Bank and retired in 1991. He was also a member of the Britton-Macon School Board. For many years he was a member of the Moslem Temple Shrine and rode with the Motor Corps. He was also a member of the Royal Arch Masons Tecumseh Chapter 42, Scottish Rite and Knights Templar. Most importantly, he surrounded himself with his loving wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Taylor; daughters, Peggy (Chuck) Taylor-Albaugh, Patti (Dan) Fitch, and son, Perry (Lori) Taylor; stepson Randy (Tanya) Martin; nine loving grandchildren, Keegan (Kari) Grounds, Matthew Fitch, Ben Fitch, Toni Albaugh, Kasey (Brian) Bartels, Gina (Jeremy) Taylor-Dicks, Jon Taylor and Kastan and Nicholas Martin; special friend and companion, Eric Pabst; a lot of very special nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Rusty. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alice (Taylor) Hamilton Nelson Sharpless; and an infant daughter, Madonna. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18. 2009, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Richard Bruce and the Rev. David Welcome officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway. Priscilla Ann Freeman Priscilla Ann Freeman (nee Sheehy), age 82, a longtime resident of Mount Clemens, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at her daughter's home in Fremont, Calif. She had most recently lived in Traverse City for six years. Priscilla was born May 7, 1927 in St. Clair Shores and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1944. She married George J. Freeman, her high school sweetheart, in 1947 and they were happily married for 53 years. Priscilla was a homemaker and raised five children. Priscilla's kind and loving personality brought light and warmth to everyone who was fortunate to be part of her life. Priscilla and George were avid golfers, active in Burning Tree Country Club and traveled to N.C. and Scotland to golf. Priscilla and George were also members of a bridge club with many friends. In addition, Priscilla bowled and took golf vacations with a circle of dear friends. Priscilla especially enjoyed her girls' trips with her daughters and daughters-in-law. Surviving are her children, Bonnie (James) Anderson of Roseburg, Ore., Debbie (Joseph) Borges of Fremont, Calif., George (Marcia) Freeman Jr., of Traverse City Mich., Mark (Susette) Freeman of Meridian, Idaho and Kelly (Terry Newman) Freeman of Oxford, Mich.; grandchildren Aaron (Katrina LaFlam) Anderson; Benjamin (Milliza) Anderson; Adrea Borges, Shauna Borges, Sarah (Jeff Clark) Freeman, George J. Freeman III, Zachary Freeman, Catherine Freeman and Matthew Freeman; a great-grandson soon to be born; close companion, Bill Biggers; sister, Ellen (Sheehy) Rabenburg of Chicago, Ill.; brothers Richard (Joyce) Sheehy of Harrison Township, Mich., and Dennis (Norma) Sheehy of South Haven, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews. Priscilla was predeceased by her loving husband, George (2001); sisters, Nora Farnham, Elizabeth Hessler, Patricia Kenley, Josephine Bidigare, Maureen Sheehy; and brother, William Sheehy. The date and location of a future memorial service will be announced.

Sally was a graduate of Hillsdale High School and  a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, where she served as elder and deacon.  She was a member of the Hillsdale Woman’s Club, the Hillsdale College Board of Women Commissioners, and a former member of the Hillsdale Garden Club. Besides her husband, Ed, she is survived by two daughters, Diane Eames of Hillsdale and Christine (Erik) Olson of Rochester Hills; a son, Douglas (Judy) Eames of Auburn, Ind. and nine grandchildren. Sally was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Shirley Collins. Funeral services for Sally Eames were today.  Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsdale.
