Richard “Rick” Paul Reiter, age 54, unexpectedly passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, at the M-40 Speedway in Jones, Mich., doing the thing he loved — driving around a racetrack. He will be greatly missed by his longtime companion, Karen Rustin; and granddaughter, Baylyn Marie, both of White Pigeon; his mother, Martha Reiter; sister, Debbie (Mark) Reiter; brothers, Ronald Reiter, Kenneth Reiter and Rodney Smithley, all of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Amy Walker and grandson, Austin Walker of Arcadia, Fla.; and daughter Angie (Tony) Montgomery and grandson, Garrett of Constantine, Mich. He will join in heaven his father, Paul Leo Reiter; brother, Rex Reiter; and his hero, Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was born Dec. 30, 1955, in Fostoria, Ohio. He attended school in Bradenton, Fla. He started stock car racing at age 13 – winning many championships.  He helped his dad at his Bradenton junkyard.  He moved to Michigan in 1983 and started his own auto repair and custom race car business.  He raced at many tracks in the area, and loved walking, talking and wrenching in the pits.  He was a fan of all motor sports, and anything Earnhardt.  He was a gentle, soft spoken man and everyone who met him liked him.  He was a man of many projects.  Richard built a full-size replica of Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s first asphalt stock car (a ’66 Chevell, which will be inducted into the Gilmore Car Museum in Kalamazoo this May.)  There will be a celebration of life memorial on May 14 at the M-40 Speedway, 58671 Michigan 40 Jones, Mich., 49061, starting at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southern Michigan Bank and Trust, PO Box 217, Constantine, Mich., 49042, for Baylyn Marie’s future.   To send condolences, please visit www.mcgannhay.com.
