Visitation will be held Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home. Clifton was born May 20, 1933 in Ovid Twp. To Glenn and Versa (Smith) Rasey. Mr. Rasey was a lifelong resident of Branch County. He graduated from Bronson High School in 1951 and served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War. Following his military career, Clifton hauled milk for Pet Milk Co. in Angola, Ind. until opening his own business, “Rasey Lime Supply,” hauling lime and corn for many local farmers for many years until his retirement. Clifton had formerly been an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Angola. He enjoyed watching sports on television and loved to play pool, cards, golf and go fishing. Clifton is survived by his sister Edna Wheaton of Bronson, five nephews, one niece, 17 great nieces and nephews and 15 great, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald Rasey. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

Survivors include his wife Scarlette Moyer of Acworth, Ga., daughter Stephanie Wagner and husband David of Woodstock, brother Don Moyer and wife Paula of Charlotte, N.C. and grandsons Nickolas and Dylan Wagner. David graduated from Coldwater High School in 1959. He spent three years in the U.S. Navy after graduation. Donald was born Aug. 24, 1931 in Trenton to Leland and Mary (LaPointe) Cade. He married Ilene Brickey on May 19, 1951 in Wyandotte. She preceded him in death on Feb. 11, 2003. Donald attended Lincoln Park High School in Lincoln Park. Mr. Cade relocated to the Branch County area from Southgate in 1974. He owned and operated Cade’s Excavating & Sanitation for 20 years and also developed and operated Cades Cove Campground in Kinderhook. After retiring in 1986, Mr. Cade enjoyed spending his winters in Arizona. He also enjoyed traveling and hunting throughout Alaska. Donald is survived by his sons Rocky Cade of Coldwater, Mark Cade of Indiana and James (Tracey) Cade of Canton, his daughters Terry (Ken) Litten of Dearborn Heights and Linda (Ron) Ferguson of Atlanta, his brothers Ray (Beverly) Cade of Dearborn Heights and Tom (Natalie) Cade of Trenton, his sisters Janet (Greeley) Duncan of Trenton, Claudia (Raymond) Garrison of Woodhaven and Juanita Hubbard of San Jacinto, Calif., nine grandchildren and 15 great grand children. Dr. Ralph J. Spagnuolo

Dr. Ralph J. Spagnuolo Delta Township Dr. Ralph J. Spagnuolo loved the practice of optometry and was a generous and compassionate man. His patients appreciated his conscientious care and would comment that he would spend extra time in caring for their health and eye care. Some would say that Dr. Spagnuolo had the compassion and patience of the Job in the Old Testament. Dr. Spagnuolo was born May 7, 1930 in Caro, Michigan. His deep compassion and humility was an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him as a patient or friend. He was raised in Lake Odessa, Michigan and graduated from Midland High School. Dr. Spagnuolo attended Central Michigan University for three years and received his B.S. Degree in Biological Science and Mathematics from Michigan State University. While at Northern Illinois College of Optometry, he received a B.S. Degree in Optometry. He completed his Optometry training and received his O.D. Degree (Doctor of Optometry) at Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. His postgraduate study was at Indiana University and Ferris State University. Dr. Spagnuolo served as Co-Chairperson of the Michigan Optometric Association Building Committee and was one of the founders of the Central Michigan Optometric Center for Needy Patients. He was a supporter of the Catholic Education Foundation and he started the Thomasina Spagnuolo Fund for eye care of Needy Children. While at Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Spagnuolo was a member of the Tomb and Key National Honorary Scholastic Fraternity, and a member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Honor Society. He held the office of Vice-President as well Treasurer of the Omega Delta National Optometric Fraternity and was also Vice-President of the junior class and Vice-President of the Student Council. Dr. Spagnuolo was an officer of the Central Michigan Optometric Society and a past member of the Michigan and American Optometric Association. He also was a former member of the Lansing Lions Club. Dr. Spagnuolo practiced optometry for 38 years. In 1995, he quit his practice in order to take care of his parents, John and Thomasina Spagnuolo. His father passed away in 1997 at the age of 95 and his mother in 1998 at the age of 94 years. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul. He was a supporter of Saint Gerard Catholic Parish. In his spare time, Ralph enjoyed bicycling at his home at Houghton Lake, Michigan, as well as downhill snow skiing, volleyball, bowling, and golfing. He was divorced from Rose Ann Spadafore. Surviving are his sister-in-law, Mrs. Doris Spagnuolo; Long time friends and helpers, Janet K. Eichorn, and Brad M. Marble; niece, Lou Ann (Edward) Heitzman; nephew, John; great-nephew, Paul (Erika) Mills and their children, Taylor and Jacob. Elizabeth (Liz) Lighthall, 73, of Adrian Township went to be with her Lord on April 28, 2010. She had recently been a patient of the Provincial House Medical Care Facility in Adrian.   She was born June 6, 1936, in Johnson City, Tenn., the daughter of Elmer and Effie (Cantor) Pickering. Liz was a 1954 graduate of Adrian High School. On June 2, 1956, she married Ronald Lighthall in Adrian.   In her early years she worked as a secretary for McKinley Elementary School. Later she joined her husband as an agent for the Lighthall Insurance Agency for Farm Bureau Insurance. She earned the insurance designation of LUTCF. Liz was an active member of Adrian First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 275. She loved cooking, reading, taking walks, visiting shut-ins and traveling. She is survived by her husband, Ronald, and her sisters, Gail (Don) Dunn of Adrian and Carol Benjamin of Saline. In addition, survivors include Liz’s children, Lisa Johnson of Alachua, Fla., and Randy (Chrissy) Lighthall of Adrian; her grandchildren, Amber Lighthall of Adrian and Jennifer (Shane) Parker of Adrian; and her great-grandchildren, Ariel, Ellectra and Gage Parker of Adrian, whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold Wayne Pickering. George Arthur Shultz DeWitt Age 94, passed away on May 1, 2010. He was born on September 22, 1915 to Arthur and Bertha Shultz in Riley Township. He lost both parents when he was child and then made his home at Byron and Minnie Palmer's. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns and a member of the DeWitt Masonic Lodge. George was employed at General Motors and was a lifelong independent farmer. He and his wife Ruth were married in August of 1936 and together they shared 64 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2000. George was also preceded in death by his second wife, Betty Shultz. He is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Gerald) Selden and four grandchildren Scott (Teri) Selden, Tracy Selden, Kim (Michael) Chaffee and Kerrie (Jim) Kraft; 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Daniel Stemen at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will be in DeWitt Cemetery. Helen C. Nehrenberg Helen C. (nee Campbell, Spranger) Nehrenberg, age 100, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, in her home. Mrs. Nehrenberg was born July 2, 1909 in Hamtramck Township, Mich. to the late Alexander and Helen (Brinkmann) Campbell. She married Edward Spranger in November 1935. Mr. Spranger died August 1937. She married Walter Nehrenberg in Centerline, Mich. on September 1, 1949. Mr. Nehrenberg died December 1, 2001. Helen was a longtime member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond and member of the Altar Sodality and Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and traveling. A major highlight of her life was celebrating her 100th birthday with many friends and family. She is survived by her children, Dorothy Meerschaert of East Lansing, Tom Stano of Sun City, Ariz., and Helen Kaczperski of Richmond; siblings, Norman (Audry) Campbell of New Baltimore and Rita Purdon of Almont; grandchildren, Michael (Kathy) Meerschaert, Mark (Carmen) Meerschaert, Tom (Mary) Meerschaert, Gary (Terrie) Meerschaert, Wally (Amalin) Meerschaert, Carol Meerschaert and Kevin Meerschaert, Joann (Neal) Voelz, Mitch (Elaine) Perliss, Nancy (Len) Boils, Joann (Rick) Whitlow, Rick (Sheri) Nehrenberg and Steve (Greta) Nehrenburg, Thomas Stano, Patrick Stano, and Andy (Trish) Stano, Roseann (George) Major, Susan (Thomas) Greco, Marilyn (Bill) Gill, Helane (Robert) Starlin, Joseph (Kris) Folske, Edward Folske, Robert Kaczperski and Peter (Karen) Folske, forty-four great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Donald Nehrenberg in 2000 and nine siblings. Visiting will be on Tuesday, 2-8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. Scripture Service in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Wednesday, 10:00 to 10:30 in the church. Ivan Lawrence "Larry" Osborn Ashley Age 96, died Monday, May 3, 2010 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, Elsie MI, on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jon Pohl will officiate, and burial will follow at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Larry was born on October 24, 1913 in Lansing, Michigan to John Homer and Iva Lynne Osborn. He graduated from Lansing Central High School in 1932. Larry farmed with his parents in Holt, MI, and worked in a factory until 1939 when he opened Osborn's Market in Ashley, MI, which he continued to operate until 1972. He married Margaret Denovich in 1942 and they had five children together. He served in the United States Army 1942-1945. In 1956 he purchased a farm in Ashley, MI, where he was able, once again, to enjoy his love of farming. Larry operated a dairy farm from 1957 until 1987 and then continued to raise feeder cattle and cash crops with his son David. Larry married Kay Mead in 1973 and increased his family with 2 stepchildren. He was a former member of the Ashley Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Ashley Village Council, and Gratiot County Sheriff's Posse. Larry was a kind and generous person, full of love and life. He possessed a great sense of humor and an even greater gift of gab. He had a passion for quarter horses and anything to do with horses. Larry enjoyed traveling the Western states to deepen his understanding and love of American Indian culture. Larry also enjoyed farming, talking politics, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Kay Osborn, 5 children; Brian (Marie) Osborn, Cheryl (Dale) Fabry, Nadine (Glen) George, Cara (Roger) Evans, David (Mary) Osborn, 2 stepchildren; Stephen (Toni) Mead, and Shauna Nelson, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Larry was predeceased by his parents, brother Roy Osborn, sisters; Myrtle Mitchell and Norma Nelson and great grandson Kameron Evans. James Jennings Franz, age 64, formerly of Adrian, passed away April 13, 2010, at his home in New Hampshire following a lingering illness. James was born Jan. 20, 1946, the eldest son of the Rev. and Mrs. James G. Franz. His father was pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Adrian from 1957 to 1967. Jim resided in Manchester, N.H., and was employed as a systems analyst for EDSHewlett Packard. Jim graduated from Adrian High School in 1964 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in philosophy, from Adrian College in 1968. Jim loved books, music, film and his friends. They remember him as a gifted thinker and writer, an astute social critic and a warm and sensitive individual with a great sense of humor. He was also an expert marksman, having won many shooting trophies and prizes over the years. He was greatly loved by his four nieces and nephews with whom he spent much of his time as they grew up. Jim is survived by his sister Christina (Tina)Franz Maxfield of Wolfeboro, N.H., his sister Franza Giffen (formerly Kathy Franz) of San Francisco, and his mother, Mrs. James G. Franz of Winter Park, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. James G. Franz. Those who wish to share remembrances of Jim and condolences for his family may pass them along to the Rev. John W. Kottke at West Adrian United Church of Christ, 4545 Wolf Creek Highway, Adrian. Rev. Kottke will then pass them on to Jim’s family.

She was employed by LCC for 10 years. Jane volunteered at St. Lawrence Hospital and was CO-chairperson of The Pink Ball. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and traveling with her husband. Jane was full of life and will be dearly missed by all that knew her. Jane was preceded in death by her three siblings, Frank, Michael and Edith DeRose. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Dr. Alfred Spagnuolo; children, Jim (Nancy) Spagnuolo, Frank (Renee) Spagnuolo, Patricia (Steve) Fox and Martha (Tomas) No; brothers, Paul (Anne) DeRose and Sam DeRose; sisters, Mary Campione and Virginia Cascarilla. Her greatest love of all was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Beautiful Grandma.” Surviving are her husband, Jerry; her sons, Jim Shedd of Bronson and Terry (Katrina) Shedd of Tekonsha; her stepchildren, David Hopkins of Coldwater, Adam Hopkins of Bronson, Kelly (Vicky) Hopkins of Coldwater, and Rachael (Mike) Wilson of East Leroy;  her brother, David Deter of Lake City; her sisters, Pam (Bob) Leis of Sturgis and Alice (Neil) Crosby of South Carolina; her grandchildren, William, Justen, Blaine, Glen, Elyse, Alisha and Carissa. Lola Mae Leikam Lansing Lola Mae Leikam, age 88, left her daughter's home in Grand Rapids to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 2, 2010. Born in Chester, Nebraska to German parents, Frank and Sophia Killian, on August 15, 1921, Lola was the third eldest of seven children. She would spend the majority of her childhood in Lincoln, Nebraska where her family owned a neighborhood grocery store. In 1945, Lola married her childhood friend, Edward Leikam, after his return from serving in the armed forces during the war. From there, the pair moved to Lansing, Michigan, to be near Ed's sister, Marie Froschieser and begin their new life together. Lola's hard work ethic and dedication to the betterment of her family was evident throughout her life. She and Ed were charter members of Our Savior Lutheran Church where both their children attended school and fostered the family's religious life. She held jobs outside the home with the Home Dairy from 1957-1967, and with Meijer at their first Lansing store from 1967 until her retirement in 1983. Even retirement didn't slow Lola down, she worked part-time at Sam's Club as a product demonstrator and on the weekends Ed and Lola traveled to numerous area craft shows where she sold handmade dolls, clothes, hand painted woodwork and household handiworks. Lola is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward; their children, Edward Lee Leikam and Cheryl Mae Myers; her sisters, Doreen Miller and June Hill; grandchildren, Danielle Mora, Joanna Montgomery and Jeff (Carol) Leikam; and great-grandchildren, Ashley Kelly, Colton Mora, Travis Pienton, and April Leikam. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Sophia Killian; siblings, Margaret Valente, Ruth Geier, Alan Killian, and Frank Killian; and grandson, Marc Leikam. Special thanks to Sparrow, Spectrum Health Hospice and Ms. Elba Vazquez for their loving care. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 12-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Lyman D. Ogden Jr., 70, of Homer, passed away Thursday April 29, 2010 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.  He was born April 2, 1940 in Coldwater to Lyman and Grace Ogden. In 1958, he married Patricia Burrows, which ended in divorce in 1988. In 1993, he married Sue Hartzog who survives. Jr. was a Woodworker for the Cherry Manufacturing Inc. of Litchfield. He also worked for the Medallion Management Inc. at Friendship & Riverside Apartments in Litchfield, Petroleum Specialties, and Owner of Standard Oil and was also a farmer. He was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Homer, enjoyed racing at Butler Speedway and being in the out of doors. He is survived by wife Sue Ogden of Homer, sons Donny Ogden of Union City, Tony Ogden of East Leroy, Todd (Kathy) Ogden of Union City and Doug (Becky) Ogden of Union City, daughter Penny (Doug) Lepper of Union City, step-daughters Nora (Robert) Gaines of Homer and Carrie Eding of Battle Creek, step-sons Karl Hasbrouck of Kansas and Thomas (Megan) Eding of Homer, 21 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother Frank (Pat) Ogden of Union City and sister Patty Lou (Don) Eishen of Tekonsha. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Milo, George, Lyle and Norman Ogden. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Margaret L. Wood Died May 3, 2010, at the age of 88. Born on March 23, 1922, in Traverse City, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Whitmarsh) Spears. She was a member of Community Christian Church, retired from George Worthington Co. in Lansing after 20 years, and was a homemaker. Margaret married Kenneth Wood in Traverse City, on June 21, 1942, and he preceded her in death on July 31, 2007. Surviving her are their three sons, Gary (Carolyn) Wood, Larry Wood and Kenneth (Ann Marie) Wood, grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Deak, Scott (Cari) Wood, Eric Wood and Michael (Mary) Wood, great grandchildren, Samantha Ferguson, Cody Wood, Cayla Wood, Matthew Wood, and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie and Robert Spears and one sister, Berneice Spears. Special thanks to the Hazel I. Findlay Special Care Unit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, four brothers, one sister, and one grandchild, Beth. Madeline was a cook for the Morrice schools for over 21 years retiring in 1986. Ardis Marie Jones Sept. 24, 1926 — April 28, 2010 Ardis Marie Jones, 83, of Paulding OH (former area resident), passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Gardens of Paulding Nursing Home. Ardis was born Sept. 24, 1926, in Grass Lake, the daughter of Earl and Edna (Weinkauf) Lane.   She graduated from Frontier High School and had worked at the Camden Grocery and Miller’s Supermarket in Montpelier, Ohio. She also loved sewing and often donated items to area churches and those who were homeless.   On Jan. 9, 1948, she married Clio Jones and he preceded her in death in 1988. Survivors include two sons, James (Janice) Jones, Paulding, Ohio and Jeffery Jones, Jackson; one sister, Arlene (Paul) Billman, Pittsford; three brothers, Arlo (Florence) Lane, Hudson, Arling (Mary) Lane, Reading and Arvin (Jackie) Lane, Hillsdale; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.   In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother.   A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Pastor David Tran officiating. Interment in Maplewood Cemetery will follow. Visitation is scheduled Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of service. Memorials are suggested to the Reading Church of the Nazarene.

She later married Claude Reed on June 8, 1988 and he survives.   Eunice was an active member of the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church. She loved the nature and especially enjoyed bird watching. She and Claude spent the past several winters in Cape Coral, Fla. and one of her favorite past times was spending time with her entire family.   Surviving besides her husband Claude are daughters, Gwendolyn (Gene) Fry of Mexico, Mo., Henreitta Badgley of Plymouth, Susan (Mike) Monroe, doing missionary work in Costa Rica and Cindy (Al) Eckhardt of Hillsdale; sons, Bo Davis of Cape Coral, Fla. and Phillip (Chris) Reed of Bellaire; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet Martin of Comstock Park.   She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Harold; son, Jim Reed; a brother, Buddy and a great-granddaughter.   Funeral services for Eunice Reed will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Porter officiating. Formerly of Kalamazoo and Hillsdale, she had recently moved to Mayfair Village Retirement Community in Columbus to be near family. George Ann was born in Fairmont, W.Va. to the late George E. and Eunice T. Bennett. She was a graduate of Fairmont State College and did her graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh. She taught in both the public schools and at Western Michigan University. She was past president of the Hillsdale Woman’s Club and served on the vestry of Holy Trinity Anglican Parish several times. She was a marvelous cook, skilled knitter and needle pointer, and a voracious reader. Her love of reading was passed down to her children and she enjoyed giving and sharing books with all those she knew. George Ann is survived by her husband of 50 years, Albert; her daughter, Ann Davis (Kevin) of Columbus; her son, Charles, of New York City; and her three grandchildren: Shea, Noah, and Drew Davis. Several cousins also survive her including special cousins Linda Bell of Fairmont, W.Va. and Marjorie Tomko of Irwin, Pa. A lifelong lover of animals, she will be missed by her two cats, Trevor and Roddy. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Riverside Hospital for their gentle and compassionate care and to her many friends at Mayfair Village who made her time in Columbus so special. Mary married Raymond L. Strain on Aug. 20, 1951, and he preceded her in death in 1992. Mary worked as a nurses aide at Maplelawn in Hillsdale before transferring to the new Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility where she worked as a housekeeper for 35 years retiring in 2001. She was a member of the Frontier United Methodist Church.  Mary was an avid gardener. She enjoyed cats, collecting antiques and crocheting rugs. Survivors include four daughters, Deborah S. Cole of Frontier, Darlene M.Day of Virginia Beach, Va., Donna A. Strain of Hartingen, Texas, and Darcy L. He was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Reading, to Wade and Naomi (Marsh) Newell. He was married Oct. 15, 1960, to Ilene Spence, and she survives. Terry was a graduate of Reading High School and a graduate of Hillsdale College in 1972. He was a supporter of the Fields of Dreams and an avid sports fan, especially baseball. Terry enjoyed watching the Tigers, Lions and the Pistons. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a NASCAR fan and he and Ilene sponsored a child from the Dominican Republic. Surviving besides his wife Ilene are two daughters, Kimberly (Mikel) Elliott of Hillsdale and Karin (Joseph) Elliott of Osseo; five grandchildren, Andrew and Megan Elliott, Ashley May, Spencer and Shelby McDonough; three brothers, Lester (Margaret) Newell, David (Phyllis) Newell and James (Sandy) Newell, all of Reading. Funeral services for Terry Newell will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Samuel Wickard officiating. He graduated from Morenci High School in 1959. He retired from Delphi in Adrian. Tom owned and operated T.K. Electric in Addison for many years and he also farmed. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and classic tractors.   Surviving, besides his wife Karen, are three sons, Dave Kisner and Dan Kisner of Las Vegas, Nev., John (Kristen) of Virginia; one daughter, Theresa Tomlin of Addison; six grandchildren; two brothers, Dale (Freida) Kisner of Hudson, Jerry (Mary) Kisner of Monroe; one sister, Kathleen (Richard) Cole of Hillsdale and several nephews and nieces.   Cremation will take place. He was born on Nov. 22, 1936, in Medina, the son of Ralph H. and Mary (McVay) Blaker.   On Jan. 18, 1957, in Sand Creek he married Emeline VanNest. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2000. Ralph lived all of his life in the Hudson/Morenci area and was a member of the Canandaigua Community Church. He worked in construction most all of his life and retired from Metalloy Foundry in Hudson. Survivors include a daughter, Beth (Todd) Graf of Tecumseh; four sons, Ralph Wayne Blaker of Medina, Wesley (Vallirie) Blaker of Medina; Arthur (Lisa) Blaker of the Ukraine, and Chris (Becky) Blaker of Morenci; 12 grandchildren; two great grandsons; three sisters, Sandy Davis of Morenci, Joyce Longo and Tamara Cooke both of Venice, Florida; and two brothers, Mike Blaker of Medina and Tim Blaker of Morenci. Besides his wife, Emeline, Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nancy McCarty; and two brothers, Marvin and Doyle Blaker. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 11 a.m., at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Arthur Blaker officiating. Ralph was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, Class of 1955 and a retired employee of General Motors. He served as Vice-President of the Local 652 from 1987 - 1993 and President from 1993 until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the Grand Ledge Church of the Nazarene; an avid golfer and loved his time spent with his grand and great grandchildren. Rev. Lloyd Austin Phillips, 82, of Niles, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 1, 2010, at his daughter’s home in Buchanan of natural causes. Rev. Phillips was born March 19, 1928, in Utica, NY, to Harold H. and Margaret P. (Jenkins)Phillips. He graduated from high school in Ilion, NY in 1946, received his BA from Houghton College in Houghton, NY in 1951 and graduated from Calvary Seminary in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1958. He continued his education with a major in philosophical theology in 1978, as well as numerous summer schools and workshops throughout his ministry. Rev. Phillips pastored United Methodist Churches in East Otto, NY from 1950-1953; Grand Rapids from 1953-1961; Bronson, Mich., from 1961-1969; Stevensville from 1969-1979; Lansing from 1979-1984; and retired from Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles after serving from 1984-1991. During his ministry, Rev. Phillips served on countless committees, boards and held numerous offices and positions, most recently with the Optimist Club where he was chief founder of the Decatur Optimist Club and was the Distinguished President of the Noon Optimist Club of Niles from 1991-92. After his retirement, he published four books and received numerous distinguished honors including a special  resolution from the Ingham County board of commissioners for help in making Ingham County a better place to live and work among ethnic people. On June 19, 1948, in Washington, Pa., he married he beloved mate, Jean Scott, who preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2010. He was also preceeded in death by his son, David L. Phillips, who died July 15, 1997. Rev. Phillips is survived by his children, Dr. John Lloyd (Linda )Phillips of Fayetteville, NC and Linda M. (Jim)Baker of Buchanan; four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Andrew, Matt, and Chelsea; five step-grandchildren, Jimmy, Jody, Donna, Frank and Paul; and six step great-grandchildren. Services for Rev. Lloyd A. Phillips will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles with Rev. Edward H. Slate, of the church, officiating. He will be greatly missed by his longtime companion, Karen Rustin; and granddaughter, Baylyn Marie, both of White Pigeon; his mother, Martha Reiter; sister, Debbie (Mark) Reiter; brothers, Ronald Reiter, Kenneth Reiter and Rodney Smithley, all of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Amy Walker and grandson, Austin Walker of Arcadia, Fla.; and daughter Angie (Tony) Montgomery and grandson, Garrett of Constantine, Mich. He will join in heaven his father, Paul Leo Reiter; brother, Rex Reiter; and his hero, Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was born Dec. 30, 1955, in Fostoria, Ohio. He attended school in Bradenton, Fla. Ruth “Penny” Mason, age 58, of Adrian passed away May 1, 2010. She was born Nov. 3, 1951, in Dundee, Mich. She was a graduate of Dundee High School, Class of 1970. On Oct. 20, 1973, she married Phillip Wayne Mason. He preceded her in death in 1999. Penny worked at Access Communications and also at Goodwill LARC until she became disabled. She loved to read, sew, play on the computer and adore her dogs.  She is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Katie) Mason-Jones and Amanda (Mike) Mason-Pratt; her grandchildren, Taryn, Taya, Andrew, Bryce, Ian, Destiny and Collin; her fiance, Tracy Harvey; special friend, Michael Young; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents who raised her, Eva Richter and Chester E. Weeks; her sister, Joan Curley; and her brother, Ronald Roe.  Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Adrian. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at J. Sandra L. Germain, 64, of Otsego, and formerly of Sturgis,  passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010, in Kalamazoo.  Sandy was born April 5, 1946, in Sturgis, a daughter of Donald and Alice (Baker) Whisler. She was a member of both the Martin and Allegan Lioness Clubs and was a member of the Michigan State Lioness Conference Committee for over 25 years. Sandy enjoyed doing crafts, was fun-loving, adored her family and enjoyed having a good time. On July 5, 1975, she was married to Albert Germain in White Pigeon. He preceded her in death in 2008. Surviving are a son, Scott (Michelle) Germain of Howard City, and their children, Lance, Dakota and Brenden; a daughter, Kelly Ann Germain of Watson; Sue (Bob) Dewitt and their children, Danyle and Ashley, who were considered family; a sister, Sally (Arnie) Dorey of South Bend, Ind.; a brother, Tim (Kim) Pelfrey of Constantine; a brother-in-law, Gary (Connie) Germain of Allegan; Aunt Jewel Germain, Uncle Bud and Aunt Carol Brewster, who was also a very special friend; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego, where services will be held  at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Pastor Dave Selleck officiating. Burial will follow at Miner Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Sandy may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice.

Vito retired from the Detroit Police Department, with the rank of Sergeant, where he served for 36 years, and continued working for many additional years in the security department at St. John Hospital. He was a compassionate, caring man and a mentor to many young police officers and to members of his large extended family. Vito's passion was working in his yard, maintaining a meticulous lawn and house. He loved spending time with the family and his many dear friends. Devoted husband and caregiver to his wife of 57 years, Grace. Loving father of Joseph (Pamela) Daniele, Mark (Pamela) Daniele and David (Ken) Daniels. Warren L. Slivensky Lansing Age 79, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010. Warren was born August 11, 1930 in Lansing, the son of the late August and Ann (Petrusha) Slivensky. He was a long time member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and retired from the Board of Water and Light after 34 years of service. Warren was also a member of IBEW Local #352. Warren loved to visit the casino, play cards and John Wayne westerns, but most of all, he loved his family dearly! He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randel; daughter, Janet Kay; brother, Raymond; sister, Ginger Whiting. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia "Patty"; children, Charles (Diane) of North Carolina, Ginger (Michael) Magistro of TN, Karen (James) Cullimore of Holt, Patti (Bruce) Kruger of Lansing, Diane (Michael) Olding of KY, Sandra (Wayne) Seeley of Lansing and Mary Lynn (Deveone) Gilbert of Lansing; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother, Donald; sisters, Geraldine Lenneman and June Demorest; brother-in-law, Donald (Glenna) Sherman; and his dear hunting buddies. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 12:00 noon, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael O'Brien as Celebrant. William H. Heater Lansing Age 81, died April 29, 2010. He was born May 12, 1928 in Webster Grove, MO the son of the late Elsor and Mary (Henderson) Heater. William received his B.A. from Denison University in Ohio, his M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in New York, and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from MSU. He pastored at Fort Street Presbyterian Church in Detroit and at Baptist churches in Nitro, WV and Owosso, MI. He taught religious studies and psychology for many years at LCC and was chairman of the Dept. of Social Sciences. William served on the Lansing School Board of Education for 12 years, serving as president at one time. He actively served in the community working with Habitat for Humanity, as a Potter Park Zoo docent, and was a member of the Torch Club and the United Nations Association. William was a very active, longtime member of Edgewood UCC. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen Heater; children, John (Susan Buskin) Heater of Seattle, WA, Susan (Ralph) Salinas of Harlingen, TX, and David (Carol) Heater of Harbor Springs, MI; 9 grandchildren; and sister, Helen Knopp. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Edgewood United Church of Christ, 469 N. Hagadorn Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823. Memorial contributions may be made to Edgewood UCC.
