Agnes Louise (Bishop) Letherer

Agnes Louise (Bishop) Letherer, age 94 years, of Pittsford passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. She was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Wheatland Township, Pittsford, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Mae Louise (Stanley) Bishop. She married Charlie W. Letherer on June 1, 1936. He preceded her in death. Surviving are their five children, Anna Mae (Noble) Bertalon of Hillsdale, Don (Jean) Letherer of Pittsford, Mary (Frank) Borck of Fife Lake, Shaila (Fred) Jehle of Howell and Lucile Stibitz of DeWitt. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Melissa, Eric, Kristi, Joe, Ted, Jennifer, Michael, Debra, Tom and Marcia; and by 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl Bishop; and sisters-in-law Jean Bishop and Helen Bishop; and many nieces and nephews. Three brothers, George, Edward and Robert Bishop, and her sister, Dorothy Jennings, are deceased. Agnes lived her entire life in Wheatland Township and graduated from Addison High School in 1933 and attended Adrian County Normal College. She taught at Sunnyside School and other one-room schools. As a busy farm wife, she was a lifelong member of the Wheatland Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday School for 50 years, a member of the Women’s Fellowship of the church and the WCTU, the Farm Bureau Women, the Taylor Farm Bureau Group and the Taylor Extension Club. As a 4-H Leader for 45 years, she served on the County 4-H Council and the 4-H Food Service.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Wesley Rowan officiating. Interment will be made in the Churches Corners Cemetery. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with memorial contributions suggested to the Friends of 4-H, the Wheatland Congregational Church or the Hillsdale Senior Service Center (Perennial Park). She was born in Three Rivers on Sept. 15, 1917, the daughter of Ernest and Alma (Avery) Stoldt. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers. Arnold Lee Heintzelman Lansing Age 62, Earthly departure May 18, 2010. All glory to the most high and only true God for delivering Arnold from the agony of cancer. Arnold always loved being around water of any kind. Towards the end of life, he drank deeply of the living water, Jesus Christ. His departure was not in vain. He lived well and went on to become an amazing testimony to what the Lord can do for a person's spirit. So, much love and thanks to the Lord and all of you whom are too numerous to name individually. Surviving are two daughters, Tiffany (Jerry) Rodriguez of Ithaca and Shannon Russell of St. Johns; five grandchildren, Olivia, Logan and Alexander Rodriguez, Darra Goldman and Serenity Rodriguez; mother, Charlene Shove of Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Debbie Lickliter of Tucson, AZ and Cathy Mercer of Columbus, OH. Barbara June LaBrosse

Barbara June LaBrosse Palo Alto, CA Barbara LaBrosse passed away on May 9, 2010 in Palo Alto, California. Formerly of Lansing, Barbara was born on May 28, 1928 in Auburn, Michigan to William and Esther Rosekrans. She began taking piano lessons from her mother at an early age, and also learned basic automotive mechanics from her father in his shop. When Barbara approached her high school years, the family moved to Bay City, where she attended Bay City Central High School, participating in musical activities that included playing the piano. She met her future husband, Henry LaBrosse, at Bay City Junior College. They both transferred to Michigan State University, and in 1951 Barbara and Henry were married in Bay City, the same year that Barbara graduated from MSU. Henry graduated from MSU in 1952. Barbara became a private piano teacher, continuing in this profession for 55 years until she and her husband moved to California in 2005. Many of her former piano students and their parents will remember Barbara for her patience, gentleness, and friendship. She is predeceased by her son, Matthew, who died in 1971 at the age of 15. Barbara is survived by her husband Henry and daughter Wynnette LaBrosse, both of Palo Alto, CA; her sister, Sara Schmerhim of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren Frank Levinson (spouse: Rebecca Levinson), Rose Levinson, and Alana Levinson-LaBrosse; and great-grandchildren, Henry and Francine Levinson (parents: Frank and Rebecca Levinson). A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, MI, Molly Grove Chapel, on May 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. Friends are invited to attend a visitation prior to the memorial service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Barbara was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by many. She will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, her sense of humor, and her loving spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes gifts to the Barbara LaBrosse Memorial Music Fund. Betty J. (Schwarz) Barnes

Betty J. (Schwarz) Barnes East Lansing Betty Jane Barnes died May 22, 2010. She was the daughter of Louis and Aubertine (Bessie) Schwarz. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 6, 1920 and grew up on the east side of Detroit. While attending Michigan State College, she met the love of her life, Jack, of rural Branch County. They were married June 27, 1944 and settled in Royal Oak after Jack returned from World War II. Betty was a woman of strong faith and a life-long Lutheran. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Faith Lutheran Church, Detroit. She taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and enjoyed her church circles and the many wonderful friends she made through her church activities. While at Michigan State University, she was a member of the Lutheran Student Association, which later became University Lutheran Church. She attended many meetings with her husband who was with Michigan Milk Producers Association and enjoyed seeing her many dairy farmer friends all over the country. She and Jack attended MSU football games for over 55 years. Wharton Center was a special place for them, and they also enjoyed travel and bridge. They were blessed with 65 wonderful years before Jack preceded her in death on February 20, 2010. Betty's family meant the world to her. She is survived by son Jim and his wife Diane of East Lansing, her two grandsons; Jeff of Bath Township and Scott of Washington, DC. Son Ronald is deceased. She also leaves behind a host of loving friends whose kindness and compassion over the last five months has been overwhelming. A memorial service will be held at University Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 27 at 11:00a.m. with the Rev. Martin Halom officiating. The Barnes family will receive friends one hour prior at the church. A private graveside service will be held at Waterhouse Cemetery, Kinderhook Township, MI. She was born May 25, 1921 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Henry Howard and Mabel (Cook) Howard Welsh. She married Donald A. Lindly on May 6, 1944, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1989. She and her husband Donald, lived in Toledo, Ohio, and in the 1970’s, they spent time at Lake Michiana, and she eventually became a resident there. She was born July 8, 1932 in Stanton, Michigan the daughter of Corbin and Blanche (Sebring) Stratton. Betty was a lifetime resident of the area and worked for Wolverine World Wide in Ithaca and Rockford, from where she retired. She was a member of the Lansing Eagle Lodge #1309 and the American Legion Post in St. Johns. Betty enjoyed crafts, crochetting, needlepoint, camping, fishing and most especially spending time with family and friends. Betty is survived by two sons, Donald Coleman of Kempner, Texas and Marshall Coleman of Stanton, a daughter, Betty (David) Stenrose of Livonia, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother, Tom (Adelia) Stratton of Riverside, California and a sister, Bonnie (Myron) Tiffany of Greenville, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Luke. Surviving besides his parents are his sister, Isabelle Grace Brooks; maternal grandparents, Phil and Becky Lawrence of Onsted, Mich.; paternal grandparents, Vincent Brooks and Brenda Brooks of Toledo, Ohio; Uncle Jason and Aunt Jody Lawrence of Adrian, Mich.; Uncle Sean and Aunt Jessica Brooks of Toledo, Ohio, and Uncle Christopher Brooks of Toledo, Ohio. Brandon was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin Phillip Brooks. Cremation arrangements have been made with Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian, Mich. Clyde D. "Pete" Bates Eaton Rapids Age 77 of Eaton Rapids died on Saturday morning, May 15, 2010 with his wife of 54 years by his bedside. Pete was born on September 21, 1932 in Lake City, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Edith Pearl (Willis) Bates. Pete served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He worked 40 years as a Millwright for Fisher Body in Lansing, retiring in 1995. Pete was a member of and past Trustee of the Brookfield United Methodist Church. Proceeding him in death was a great grandson, Jakob Gates; 3 sisters, Nadine Bates, Maxine Bigelow and Naurine Rose. Charlene Annette Schaar

Charlene Annette Schaar DeWitt Charlene Annette Schaar passed from this world to her heavenly home on May 15, 2010 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born September 16, 1935 to Ernie and Marguerite Shafley in DeWitt, MI. She spent her entire life touching the lives of others in her hometown of DeWitt. Charlene married her high school sweetheart, Bill Schaar on June 11, 1955. Together they raised their sons and grandchildren in the DeWitt community. Charlene was an active member of Redeemer United Methodist Church where she served the Lord in many ways. Her faith was ever present in the way she lived her life. Charlene's gift of service was well known through her 30 year career as a first grade teacher. Her passion was teaching but she taught more than academics, she taught others by example. She gave many hugs and pulled many teeth always with a gentle reminder of how much she cared. Charlene also graced many bleachers and auditoriums throughout her life. She enjoyed watching not only her sons and grandchildren, but many student/athletes over the years. She will long be remembered as a faithful fan. Charlene also found joy in traveling, sewing, quilting, and being with friends. She was blessed with a full, active life and was a blessing to many. Charlene is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bill; sons, Dr. Mark (Mickie) Schaar, Mike (Luann) Schaa; and six grandchildren, Eric, Austin, Andrew, Anna, Christina, and Addison all of DeWitt. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leonard (Felice) Shafley. A celebration of Charlene's life will be held Tuesday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Road, DeWitt, MI, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Donald Vernon Stocker, age 83, of Onsted died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at his home. He was born in January, 1927, in Detroit, to Alfred Otto and Elsie (Breitenbach) Stocker. Donald served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. On Sept. 23, 1950, in Detroit he married Clara Smith and she survives. Donald was a Professor Emeritus at Wayne State University until his retirement in 1989. In addition to his wife, Clara, he is survived by two daughters, Jan (Ron) Heverly of Frankfort, Mich., and Laura (Chuck) Dorais of Canton, Mich.; one sister, Jeannette Stocker of Redford, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Linda Reno, Richie Reno, Brett Wysocki and Eric Dorais. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don leaves a loving, supportive, large extended family. All who knew him became part of the circle of love that surrounded him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Edna Mae Nieratko Lansing Edna Mae Nieratko, 85 passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Saturday, May 15, 2010. She was a breast cancer survivor, but unable to conquer Alzheimer Disease. She was born Edna Mae Witschey on October 11, 1924 in the back of her uncle's general store in Hannibal, Ohio, and raised in Moundsville, West Virginia where she met her high school sweetheart Paul. He the captain of the football team and she the librarian, married on August 14, 1948. They moved to Lansing, MI in 1949 where Paul became a baker and Edna a secretary and homemaker. From 1962 to 1987 Edna and Paul worked side by side as co-owners of Paul's Pastry Shop where Edna developed an outstanding talent for the art of cake decorating. Edna was a loving and devoted wife and an excellent parent and mother, not only for her own three children but to numerous other young people whose lives she touched. Edna enjoyed time with family and friends, vacations back to the "hills" of West Virginia, reading, crossword puzzles, and weekends volunteering at McRee House. Thanks to the devotion and compassionate care of her family, Great Lakes Home Health and Hospice, and special friend Rose, Edna was able to live out her life at home with her husband by her side. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Anna, her brother Paul, and sisters Thelma and Martha (Young). She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Paul, her children Ann, Paul II (Maureen), Barb (Roberto), and her beautiful granddaughters Katie and Natalia Mae. Her life was a sweet poem, now sung for eternity by angels. More than words can say she was loved and will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of the bakery years, the family requests donations be made to the Greater Lansing Food Bank in Edna's name. She married Russell Marshall on May 7, 1955; they moved to Grand Ledge in 1958 and joined the First Congregational United Church of Christ. She worked making tents for the military during WWII, but her real passion was her family and all children. Along with her own children, she babysat for and helped to raise many babies and children in both Cadillac and Grand Ledge. Those children have many fond and loving memories of Grandma/Mommy Marshall. She is survived by her husband, Russell; her daughter, Cathy Marshall of Syracuse, NY;, her sons,, Jeff and Kathy Jackson of Grand Ledge, Steve and Janice Jackson of San Antonio, TX, Mike Marshall and Teri Barringer of Dewitt; her grandchildren, Dr. Erika Jackson, Casey and Jessie Marshall, Steven A. Elmer F. Skinner, 88, Constantine,  passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at home.  He was born May 13, 1922,  in Fulton, a son of James and Clara (Nutting) Skinner.  Elmer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a 1st Class cook from 1940 until 1945 on the USS Hollandia and USS McCawley. He was a member of the  Arthur E. Stears Post 223 American Legion in Constantine, and Moorepark Community Church in Three Rivers. Elmer worked as a painter at Ace Aircraft, Detroit Metro Airport, from which he retired in 1986. He previously worked for 23 years as as truck driver in Ypsilanti, and had also worked on the I-80/90 toll road construction. He was married to Jerolene (Wiser) Skinner for 50 years. She preceded him in death. On Nov. 2, 1996, he married Marilene Sprunger at Moorepark Community Church.  Elmer enjoyed yard work, riding his tractor, camping and fishing. He was a storyteller and loved his dogs and animals. Surviving Elmer are his wife, Marilene Skinner, of Constantine; children Kim (Randy) Tupin of Amarillo, Texas, Renae (Gary) Wright, Sharon (Oscar) Holderman and  Joe (Karey) Arnold, all of Constantine; grandchildren Nicholas and Byron Holderman, Ryan Wright, Ethan Grubb, Ashley Ward, Mallory, Melisa, Patrick, Trevor and Christopher Arnold, Jeff Ballard, Kim Ballard; great-grandchildren Heidi and Adelaide Holderman; a brother-in-law, Dean (MaryJo) Sprunger; and several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife,  Jerolene Skinner; 13 brothers and sisters; a daughter-in-law, Christine Arnold; father and mother-in-law Howard and Edith Sprunger; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Sprunger. Mr. Cramer originally came to Sturgis in 1960 and resided here until 2000 when he and his wife moved to Virginia where they resided for three years moving to Holland, where they lived until they returned to Sturgis in 2009. His early life was spent in the Fort Wayne, Ind., area. On Sept. 24, 1949, he married Beverly Bridge in Fort Wayne, Ind. Mr. Cramer was an accountant by trade and retired from Parma-Tube in Sturgis where he had held the position of controller for 10 years. Prior to joining Parma-Tube he had been employed by Grav-i-flo in Sturgis and Central States Grain in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and a former member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of Moose #574. He was proud to have served his country first with the Merchant Marines and later he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp serving from 1946-1950 and was stationed in China. He earned the rank of sergeant. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, reading and was a talented woodworker. He has left behind a loving family to cherish his memory through their tears. They will remember him with many smiles, laughs, stories and much love. This is the way he would want it until they are all reunited with him in heaven. He and Beverly’s loving marriage of 60 years serves as a shining example of true dedication as husband and wife. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; one daughter,  Theresa Potts of Sturgis; one son, Michael Cramer; four grandchildren, Amy (Aaron) Morris of Sturgis, Julie Swihart, of Sturgis, Scott (Alisha) Roberts of Sturgis and Tony (Tara) Cramer of Holland; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, David (Rita) Bridge of Indianapolis, and William Bridge of Williamsburg, Va., and many nieces and nephews. His parents; two sisters; and one brother preceded him in death. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Emery L. Cramer will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mark Roberts residence located at 65495 Taylor Road, Sturgis. The Rev. Barry Sommerfield of the Celebration Community Church in Sturgis will officiate. Emily Ann Samson, age 73, of Mendon, died Saturday May 15, 2010, in Three Rivers.  She was born in Battle Creek on Dec. 30, 1936, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Berzetta (Hacker) Chalmers.  She was a 1954 graduate of Marshall High School and had been employed at several area factories and restaurants.  Emily was married to Franklin Bloss in 1955.  They were later divorced.  She was married to Floyd Samson in 1967.  Floyd died 10 years ago. Floyd D. “Bud” Krontz, age 60, of Burr Oak, Mich., passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at his home. He was born Oct. 23, 1949, in Fort Riley, Kan., a son to the late Charles R. and Dessie C. (Keith) Krontz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. Bud has been a resident of Burr Oak since 1971 moving from Holland, Mich.  He had been employed for Currier Disposal and for several years at Nissley Disposal.   He enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, reading, and collecting knives. Surviving are three brothers, Charles (Cindy) Krontz of Burr Oak, Earl (Barbara) Krontz of Holland, and Victor “Buzzy” Krontz of Burr Oak; three sisters, Dessie Wyatt of Burr Oak, Dixie (Ivan) Barkman of Bronson, and Vicky (Daryll) Currier of Howe, Ind.; also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Shaun Reaper. Gloria Kinsey, 74, of Sturgis, passed away Monday evening, May 17, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Sturgis, the only child of Howard and Loretta (Coohon) Gilbert. Gloria was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1953. On Sept. 4, 1957, she married Willis A. “Bill” Kinsey in Sturgis. He died Dec. 20, 1984. For more 30 years she had been employed by Sturgis Hospital as a certified nursing assistant and had worked in every department of the hospital and most enjoyed working in pediatrics and obstetrics. She retired from Sturgis Home Health Care following several years of dedicated employment. Gloria was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, where she was a deacon and a member of the hand bell choir and the choir. She loved traveling and had enjoyed two trips to Europe, a Caribbean cruise and numerous trips throughout the United States. She also enjoyed reading and riding her bicycle. For several years she was an aide in the classroom of her dear friend, Jean Beall, at Baldwin Prairie Elementary School, where she was always ready to volunteer her time with field trips or adopt-a-grandmother-for-a-day program. She is survived her very best friend, Jean Beall of Sturgis; a sister-in-law, Eva (Clarence) Wooten of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Mark H. Kinsey in February 1984 and John W. Kinsey in April 1993; and a cousin, Kathy Daniels. Kenneth R. Pufpaff Bellevue Kenneth Roger Pufpaff, 97, of Bellevue, died May 16, 2010 at home. He was born January 15, 1913, the son of Raymond and Zelma (Talmage) Pufpaff in Bellevue. Ken served in the U. S. Army during World War II. After returning from the service he farmed in the Bellevue area for over 60 years. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Elva M. (McCarty) Pufpaff in 2007; his parents; five brothers, Adrian, Orville, Herb, Al and Merle; and his sister, Arlene Cheeseman; his son, Karl Pufpaff in 1988 and great-granddaughter, Audrey Wright in 1998. He is survived by his son, Ronald (Ruth) Pufpaff of Marshall; daughter, Catherine (Felix) Ray of Bellevue; six granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. Ken loved his farm and his family, and especially enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. He was a junior at Blue Valley Northwest High School. He loved sports and participated in football, basketball, track and lacrosse. He was particularly passionate and talented in football. Kevin hoped to play football in college and become a teacher and coach. He was a member of St. Tomas Episcopal Church. Kevin was a strong, independent young man with a big heart. He was quiet with a mischievous sense of humor. He was a loyal friend with a sense of adventure. Kevin loved to ride four wheelers, his dirt bike, Sea-Doos, go tubing and sit around the camp fire and eat s’mores. Kevin loved his dog, Ricky, and the time they spent together at the dog park. Kevin will be deeply missed and was truly loved by his family and friends. Kevin’s family would like to thank their friends and family, the Blue Valley Northwest community and the St. Thomas Episcopal Church community for their love, support and prayers. They would also like to thank the Emergency Response Team and all the staff and physicians at Overland Park Regional Medical Center who provided exceptional care for him. His joy was his grandchildren and spending time with the family at Chippewa Lake; he expressed his love for the Christmas season decorating the homestead since 1938. Louis enjoyed the Detroit Tigers, listening to Ernie Harwell, playing cards, bird watching, love of animals, yard work and Sunday dinners with his family. Marilee leaves her many friends in Costa Mesa, especially the family of Virginia Grossek; her sister, Nellie (Beth) Moord of Canoga Park, Calif.; two sisters in law, June Moord of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Norma Moord of Middlebury, Ind.; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and friends in St. Joseph County, and Fort Wayne, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Olney Moord of Constantine and Elliott Moord of Fort Wayne;  two sisters, Winona Outman of Constantine and Molly Cupp of Colon. Marvin Ray Yoder, age 82, of Mendon, died late Tuesday night at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 28, 1927, in Mount Ayr, Ind., a son of Henry P. and Cora (Miller) Yoder. On Nov. 25, 1951, he married Betty Ruth Otto in Shipshewana, Ind. They have resided in Mendon since their marriage. Marvin had been employed by Weyerhaeuser Paper Co. in Three Rivers for over 40 years, and at the same time engaged in general farming, and was a bee-keeper. He was a member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church. He did volunteer work for the church and for the Salvation Army. Marvin enjoyed socializing with friends and loved spending time with his family. Va., and Connie and Sterling Nuff of Sturgis; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Garner of Newton, Kan., Jeremy (Amanda) Schrock of Freeman, Terri Lance of Colon, Andrew (Angie) Schwartz of Sarasota, Fla., Adam Miller, serving in Baghdad, Kurtis, Keitha, Kayla, and Krista Wickey all of Morgantown, and Jessica and Conrad Nuff, both of Sturgis; five great-grandchildren, Jena Lance, Amber Webber, Asa Garner, Elliot Schrock and Alice Schwartz; and a sister, Edna Mast (Glen) of Wawaka, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Irene Yoder and Wilma Schwartz. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, 29525 Finley Road, Burr Oak. Betty Joyce Miller, 87, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, at the Gilbert Residence following an extended illness. She was born July 19, 1922 in Hillsdale, the daughter of Ted R. and Iva L. (Watkins) Green. Betty was a 1940 graduate of Tecumseh High School. She graduated from Hillsdale College and earned her master’s in education from Eastern Michigan University. On Aug. 24, 1945, she married Gordon C. Miller and he survives. During 1946-47, she had her own radio program in Adrian where you would “hear the voice of Betty Joyce.” She was an active member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti. Betty’s musical contributions were extensive throughout the community, and she was a wonderful cook. In addition to her loving husband of almost 65 years, survivors include: one daughter, Kriss Strolz of Pittsburgh; one son, John (Deborah) Miller of Captain Cook, Hawaii.; and three grandchildren, Nicolas G., Adam C. and Kyle H. Strolz. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stark Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Gilbert Residence. Harold was the only son of Harold and Annette Hilbert, the youngest of three children. He is survived by his wife, Becky, of almost 30 years; his children: Sean (Linda) Hilbert, Vernon (Kristi) Elliott, Dan (Casey) Elliott, and Carina Hilbert; 10 grandchildren; his sister Gina (Ken) Coleman and twin sister Pauline (Will) Williams; and many, many cousins. A Pearl Harbor survivor, Harold was born in Long Beach, Calif. before first moving to Honolulu, Hawaii and then to Lewiston, Idaho; the Bay Area in California; the Lansing area; and finally settling in Mason for the last 33 years. He finished a machinist apprenticeship at Mare Island Shipyard at 19, was drafted into the Army during the Cold War, worked in our nation’s nuclear defense industry, and earned his mechanical engineering degree from Michigan State in 1966. During his student years at Michigan State, Henry Blosser hired him to work at the then-new Cyclotron Laboratory, and Harold worked his way up from student worker to Senior Engineer; helping the Lab become one of the world’s preeminent centers for atomic research. Harold retired in 2000, moving on to work for his son, Sean, at Cobra Motorcycles, working long, fun-filled weeks manufacturing American-made off-road motorcycles. He will be missed by his family and many friends, as well as the many people whose lives he touched through the years. A memorial service will be held at Holt United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. on Thursday  with a celebration of his life to follow at 5 p.m. at the family home. Dress is casual in keeping with Harold’s wishes. Mrs. Benz was a former member of the Montgomery and New Hope United Brethren churches as well as Liberty Bible Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Parmer was a great storyteller and enjoyed making furniture. His wife of 59 years, Ethel preceded him in death (August 2006) and also his daughter, Patricia; 1 brother and 4 sisters. He is survived by his son, Robert P. (Cindy) Karns of Howell, son-in-law, David R. (Barb) Lownsbery of Eagle; 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Robert C. Rodesiler, age 82, of Coldwater, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Community Health Center of Branch County, following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 21, at 1 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater, with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Coldwater American Legion Post 52. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home. Robert was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Blissfield, to Clyde and Minnie (Hasty) Rodesiler. He married Marjorie Adams on July 3, 1953, in Waterloo, Ind. She preceded him in death in 1990. He then married Marjorie (Karn) Ely on Sept. 11, 1998. She survives. Mr. Rodeslier graduated from Montgomery High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the former United Technologies in Coldwater for 42 years as a supervisor, retiring in 1994. Robert was a member of the Fremont Moose, Coldwater Eagles, the Coldwater American Legion Post 52 and Past Commander and member of the Coldwater VFW for 43 years. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed hunting and playing softball and bowled on a league until he was 75 years old. In addition to his wife, Marge, Robert is survived by his son, John and Cheryl Rodesiler of Angola, Ind.; his daughters, Vicky and Mike Meek of Angola and Kathy Rodesiler of Hopkins, S.C.; his brothers, Jim and Joan Rodesiler of Hillsdale and Bruce Lemmon of Shreveport, La.; his sister, Jeanette and LeRoy Van Horn of Fremont, Ind.; his grandchildren, Christopher Rodesiler of Coldwater, Chad Rodesiler of Angola, Aimee McVoy of Huntington, Ind., Holly Deem of Angola and Kristy Clawson of Angola; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Robert was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Joshua Rodesiler, in 2008; his sister, Shirley Towers; and his three brothers, Donald, Thomas and Jerry Rodesiler. Sarah Elizabeth Neveau DeWitt Passed away May 15, 2010 at the age of 88. She was born November 27, 1921 in Meridian Twp. the daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Lyons) Cornell. She married Joseph Neveau, Jr. and he preceded her in death in 2007. Survivors include her children: Tanya (Waine) Huhn of DeWitt, Nancy Bouldin of Greenville, NC and Wayne (Marsha) Neveau of DeWitt; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Mrs. Neveau worked for REO during WWII and also worked for Arbaugh's, Knapps and retired from the State of Michigan Secretary of State's office. She was a member of the Lansing 7th Day Adventist Church and enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting and sewing. She also had a love for small children and birds and cherished her home and her family. A memorial service to celebrate Sarah's life will take place on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt at 3 p.m. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Scott E. Moore Scott E. Moore, died May 6, 2010, at the age of 40. Born in St. Johns, on September 27, 1969, the son of Albert and Kelly (Bellinger) Moore. He was a member of DuPlain Church of Christ and was a farmer. He married Jackie Jorae on April 16, 1994, and she survives him. Steve Alan “Tank”Hedgepath, 45, passed into the Kingdom of Heaven last Sunday night, May 16, 2010, after having fought a valient battle with heart diesase over the past several years. Tank often spoke of his youth and his love of hunting, fishing, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and his grandma’s cooking. In recent years, hunting mushrooms, wild asparagus and rabbits with his dog, Max, brought him great pleasure. Tank was often a quiet man and just as often as not, he loved to build things and worked as a carpenter throughout the Sturgis area. He had a great capacity to make friends feel like family. Steve leaves behind a special friend, Kelly Roach; his beloved daughter, Aubrey J.; two sisters, Debra Russell of Illinois and Donna Hedgepath of Kentucky; a brother, Thomas Hedgepath; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy (Anderson)Hedgepath; a brother, Christopher Hedgepath; and a great-nephew, Jaycob Hedgepath. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Sturgis Toy Run. Tank will be missed by most, mourned by some, but definitely remembered by all who knew him. Theodore “Ted” Milliman, 71, of Adrian passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the Bixby Medical Center in Adrian, Mich., surrounded by his family. Ted was born on June 1, 1938, in Hillsdale, Mich., the son of Kenneth L. and Mildred M. (Christensen) Milliman. Ted met his wife, Helen L. O’Brien, on the first day of high school where they remained high school sweethearts until being united in marriage on May 18, 1957, in Clayton, Mich. Ted drove truck for Gentner Trucking Company until retiring in 1989 due to being in a motorcycle accident. He was a lifetime member of the Bits N’ Piece’s R.C. Club and also a member of the Adrian Ham Club. Ted’s favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing and traveling. He further enjoyed watching his favorite episodes of “Cops,” flying kites, playing on his laptop and especially playing cards and spending time with his family. Surviving is his wife, Helen Milliman, of Adrian; three children, Keith (Linda) Milliman of Pleasant Plains, Ill., Dawn (Rick) Schulte of Clayton, Mich., and Karen (Mark) Six of Adrian, Mich.; four sisters, Phyllis Thompson of Inverness, Fla., EvaLee Krathwol of Bryan, Ohio, Shirley (Jerry) Morris of Adrian and Marcia (Michael) Harrington of Adrian, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Jake (Jennifer) Blaker, Chad (Jesslyn) Schulte, Kassi (Casey) Schulz, Sandra (Jim Mordacq) Milliman, April Blaker, Sarah Milliman, Nicholas Milliman, Dylan Six, Amanda (Rusty) Thompson and Stephanie Six; and nine great-grandchildren. Ted was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Darin Milliman. Funeral services for Ted Milliman will be held on Monday, May 24, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian, Mich.
