Carol Ann Patton Rehder Carol Ann Patton Rehder of Caseville, Michigan and formerly of Mount Clemens, joined her husband, Dennis, and parents, Roy and Lucille Patton, with our Lord on January 24, 2010, after a long illness. She was surrounded by family and friends. Carol was born December 5, 1943, in Mount Clemens and was a 1962 graduate of L'anse Creuse High School. She was united in marriage to Dennis Rehder on the 4th of August, 1962 in Mount Clemens. She is survived by daughter, Robin Rehder of Caseville; son, Randy (Lorena) of Evart; adopted daughter Gretchen Petraszko of Port Austin; along with sister, Sally (Max) Aicher of Warren; brothers, Robert (Florie) and Richard Patton of Florida and James Patton of Shelby. Carol will be missed by everyone she came in contact with, especially her grandchildren, Ashley and Keegan Battisti, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carol loved going to the casino. She enjoyed all types of crafts, from needlepoint to knitting and crocheting, and was a magician on a sewing machine. She and her husband Dennis enjoyed dressing as Daisy and Bingo the Clown, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. She also enjoyed computers and camping. Carol was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Caseville/Sand Point for many years. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with Rev. Steve Stolarczyk, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Township Cemetery. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Jeanie Wurst for the many months of care and years of devoted friendship, and to caregiver Shannon Ollison, who cared for Carol with endless energy and devotion. The family asks that memorial donations be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the American Diabetes Association, or Covenant Hospice. E. Edward Braden, age 81, of Tecumseh passed away Jan. 26, 2010, at Herrick Medical Center. He was born June 10, 1928, in Harlan County, Ky., the son of Claude and Mae (Bussell) Braden. On March 15, 1947, he married Shrelda Yeary in Middlesboro, Ky. She survives. Ed was retired from Tecumseh Products Co. with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Tecumseh Church of God and was the Adult Sunday School teacher for several years. In addition to his wife, Shrelda, Ed is survived by his children, Ron E. Braden and Gerald P. Braden, both of Houston, Texas; Diane (Merele) Vinson and Lois (Don) Sower, both of Adrian; his grandchildren, Rebecca (Ryan) Maxwell of Loganville, Ga., Jeremy Braden of of Tecumseh, Rachel Vinson of Adrian, Jason (Jeanette) Braden of Amherst, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Sandra Braden of South Lyon; great-grandchildren, Devon, Chase and Nyah Maxwell of Loganville, Ga.; brothers and sisters, Maggie Johnson ofCharleston, W.Va., Denver (Lori) Braden of San Marcos, Calif., LeRoy (Ann) Braden of London, England, Carolyn (Bill) King of San Antonio, Texas, and Larry Braden of Defiance, Ohio. Walter Keith Rathbun, age 83, of Weston, his precious spirit went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010. He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Clinton, Mich., to Carroll and Marie (Scharer) Rathbun. On Dec. 27, 1948, he married Betty Johnson, in Hudson, Mich. She preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2007. Keith worked for the Lenawee County Road Commission. He was a member of the Fairfield Twp. Fire Dept., where he served as Assistant Chief. He had served as Constable of Fairfield Twp. and was on the Weston Cemetery Board. Keith was a dedicated family man, a grandfather who enjoyed following sports with his grandchildren. Keith is survived by one son, Michael Rathbun of  Chandler, Ariz.; two daughters, Jamee (Bill) Davis of Weston and Jermee Emerson of Weston; a cousin who was like a sister, Mary Ellen Saylor of Blissfield; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Kay Rathbun; a sister, Helen Bovee; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sue Rathbun. At Keith’s request cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Weston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend immediately following the service a luncheon and visitation at the Weston United Methodist Church. Laura Lois Vaughn Jansen, 86, went to be with the Lord Jan. 18, 2010. Born Dec. 26, 1923, Laura Lois Vaughn resided in Jefferson County, Ky., with parents Charles R. and Susie (Purcell) Vaughn. She has lived in Michigan since marriage. She was an Adrian resident for 19 years. Laura served as a WAC in the Army during World War II as a laboratory technician. Laura was active in her faith and supported her church in any way she could, including teaching bible study for many years. She was an active volunteer at Burnham Brook Center of Battle Creek. She enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, crocheting, knitting, gardening, dancing and singing, but her passion was writing. Laura also enjoyed performing and playing the guitar, piano and organ. She participated in five Ms. Senior Michigan Pageants and was chosen as finalist twice. Laura is survived by her much beloved husband of 63 years, Lewis C. Jansen of Battle Creek; her son, Ronald L. (Renee) Jansen of Ada, Mich.; and daughters, Judith E. (David) Gentner of Newport, Mich., Barbara J. West of Sarasota, Fla., and Marjorie (Mark) Harcourt of Warrenville, Ill.  She was the beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Two sisters also survive, Violet Lile and Camille Grant, both of Louisville, Ky. A memorial service was held to honor the life of Laura at Urbandale Baptist Church, Battle Creek, Mich., on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010.

Mary M. Theisman, age 103, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Thursday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born Aug. 21, 1906 in Tamaroa, Ill., a daughter to the late John and Agnes (Ryterski) Kucharski. Mrs. Theisman had resided in Sturgis since 1945 coming from Three Rivers. Her early life was spent in the southern Illinois and St. Louis, Mo. area. For a time following their marriage, she and Mr. Theisman lived in Chicago, Ill. On Sept. 10, 1929, she married Lorenz Thomas Theisman in St. Louis, Mo. . He died April 29, 1989. She had been employed by AT&T as an operator in St. Louis and after moving to Chicago she continued her work with AT&T where she taught people how to use the dial telephone. Mrs. Theisman was an active member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church where she was amember of the women’s circle. She was a member of the Sturgis Women’s Club and the Sturgis Kiwaniqueens. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and playing Bridge and loved time spent with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Preble of Sturgis and Joan Wing of Rockwall, Texas; five grandchildren,  Greg Wing of Texas, Mark Wing of California, Mike Wing of Texas, Kristin Crandall of Pennsylvania and Dana Dieter of Virginia; five great -grandchildren, Abigail Wing, Alan Crandall, Erin Crandall, Madeleine Wing and Jena Wing and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Mary M. Surviving besides her husband Carl are two children, Melinda Breault and Brian Bowman, both of Hillsdale; her mother, June Dull of Osseo; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Barb (Mike) Vernier of Coldwater and Sherry (Phil) Shaw of North Adams; two step-sons, Kevin and Scott; two half-sisters, Linda and Pat and a half-brother, Joe; and best friend Becky Hanning. She was preceded in death by her father, Lorain and step-father, Don Dull. She enjoyed cooking, music and dancing, had a wonderful sense of humor and an outgoing personality, and loved her family. On Oct. 23, 1999, she married John Collins and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Allison Marie Collins, Hillsdale; a son, Jared Michael Collins, Hillsdale; parents, Marion Leroy and Alice (Houtz) Stemen,  Allen; sister, Amy (Jack Church) Stemen, Homer; and a brother, Joshua (Sarah) Stemen, Quincy. She was preceded in death by two grandmothers and two grandfathers. Funeral services are at 1 pm. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Pastor Paul Pickell officiating. Mildred L. Bowman, age 91 of Addison, passed away on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale. She was born on Oct. 13, 1918, in Medina Township to Curtis H. and Theresa (Dillion) McKibbin.  She married Maxwell J. Bowman on Jan. 16, 1938, in Addison, and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1974. Mildred graduated from Addison High School in 1937.  She operated the former Bowman’s Bakery in Addison from 1938-1940 and then she worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti.  She was a cook at Addison Hospital for 13 years, retiring in 1988.  She also was a homemaker all her life. Mildred was a member of the former Addison Methodist Church, member of the Addison Senior Citizens Center and the Carousel Club of Addison. Surviving are one son, Owen H. (Jane) Bowman of Addison, one daughter, Marlene (Paul) Gillespie of Dartown, Ohio, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister, Juanita Jennings of North Adams, nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell, one son, Dr, George E. Bowman, one daughter, Maxine Gerber and one brother, Charles McKibbin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor Will Snyder officiating.  Burial will take place in Dibble Cemetery, Wheatland Township.  Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today. He is survived by three children, daughter, Susan of Adrian, Mich.; daughter, Roberta “Bobbie” Brown of Georgia; and son, Paul A. Brown of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a sister, Lois B. King. He was “Poppie” to eight grandchildren, Jessica and Christopher Newman, Katelin and Cody Brown, Ashley (Shane) Seitz, Alex, Amanda and Abby Deemer, and great-grandson, Levi. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hoag; daughter, Christina (Eric) Briggs of Osseo; son Troy T. Hoag of Essexville; grandchildren, Troy “T. J.” Hoag, Emma Hoag and Erica Briggs; his mother, Ruth Hoag of Battle Creek; his mother-in-law, Frances Cunic of Athens; brothers, Gerald (Joann) Hoag of Pascagoula, Miss. and sister, Jane (Wesley) Brandt of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by his father. Thomas was a member of the Church of the Resurrection and served on its vestry as Junior Warden. Bill was still an infant when his family moved back to East Jordan, where his mother was born and raised. He had many fond memories of summers spent on his grandparents, Wilbur and Bertha Spidel's, farm. After graduating from East Jordan High School with the class of 1949, Bill worked for Buick in Flint, riding his Indian motorcycle back to East Jordan every weekend. In 1951, he married the former Esther Zitka. They were later divorced.

He was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Hardin County, Ohio, to Solomon and Kirgie Shepherd. He married Jacqueline C. Dowling in 1945. Wendell was raised in the southern Michigan area and lived in Adrian, Tecumseh and Manitou Beach. He worked at Tecumseh Products Co. in Tecumseh, Mich., for 42 years. He served in combat with the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Independence and was wounded at Guadalcanal. He loved fishing and hunting and was a life-long collector of antiques. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Marvin (Valerie) Shepherd of Austin, Texas, and Stephen (Janet) Shepherd of Dubuque, Iowa; six grandchildren, Joshua Shepherd, Monica Shepherd, Adam Shepherd, Lesley (Larry) Maples, Nathan White and Emily (Ryan) Steinbron; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Sara; and one sister, Janice Yancy of Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline; his parents, three sisters and two brothers.  Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Melissa Warren Spoerl will officiate. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #6. William E. (Buzz) Galliers

William E. (Buzz) Galliers, 67, of Coldwater, died on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at his home, after a courageous, 18-month battle with cancer. Buzz was born Oct. 15, 1942 in Glendale, Calif., to Edward R. and Velma H. (Thorp) Galliers. He grew up in Bryan, Ohio. After graduating from Bryan High School in 1960, he attended The Ohio State University (OSU). On Aug. 18, 1962, he married Linda Kaufman in Bryan, and she survives. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Buzz worked in the shoe business. He was a sales rep. for The Western Shoe Co. in Toledo, Ohio for 10 years before coming to Coldwater in 1975 with the Shaw Shoe Co. He later worked for L&S Products in Coldwater, where he learned the manufacturing business. Buzz was co-founder, co-owner and CEO of G&W Display Fixtures, Inc. of Bronson, which began operations in 1980. Buzz was active in the community. He was a long-time member of the Coldwater Elks, as well as a member and past president of the Coldwater Country Club. He was a very proud member of the First Baptist Church of Coldwater. He was a 28-year member of the Coldwater Noon Rotary Club. In 2009, he was awarded the club’s highest honor, the Paul Harris Fellowship. Buzz also served on the Board of Directors of Southern Michigan Bank and Trust from 1993 until his retirement from the board in 2007. He then spent more time at his Florida residence, where he served several terms as president of his condo association. He was an avid OSU fan, attending all of their home football games for many years. He also enjoyed golf and boating, but most of all, he enjoyed people. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, warm smile and especially for his generosity toward family and friends. Along with his wife Linda, he is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Donna Galliers, Mark and Amy Galliers and Matt and Kristi Galliers, six special grandchildren Benji, Nicklaus, Andy, Polly Kirsee and Lexi, all of Coldwater; three brothers Dick (Gail) Galliers of Melbourne, Fla., Don (Pat) Galliers of Sandusky, Ohio and Fred (Bobbie) Galliers of Bethany, Okla.; and his step-mother Elizabeth Galliers of Montpelier, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. The service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Coldwater, with Pastor David Pierce officiating. The family will again receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. William “Bill” Tellor, age 88, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Born March 25, 1921, in Hibbing, Minn., he passed away Jan. 15, 2010. He was a decorated World War II veteran. Bill worked in mining and was a safety director in automobile manufacturing plants in Lower Michigan. He retired from Hoover Universal and worked at Garfield School as a crossing guard and classroom aide. Bill is survived by his wife, Rosemary “Rosie” Tellor; daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Sullivan, Sue (Tom) Dionne and Jeanette (Kevin) Funk; sisters, Katherine Nordquist and Nancy (Martin) Bamrick; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. A memorial mass for his celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Joseph’s Church in Adrian. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Bill Tellor Memorial Fund, in care of Rosie Tellor. Proceeds will benefit Daybreak Adult Day Services.
