He was also a life master bridge player. He was past president of International Typographical Union. He retired from the Battle Creek Enquirer News after 29 years of service. He was the beloved husband of Catherine nee Conat; loving father of Thomas (Jan) Fiola and Paul Fiola; beloved son of the late Rose and Pasquale Figliuolo; proud grandfather of Katie and Jenny Fiola; dear brother of Leo, Frank and the late Mike, Charles and Marie; Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Dorothy Caswell Battle Creek Dorothy Caswell, 68, died at Battle Creek Health System on November 30, 2010. Dorothy was born July 2, 1942 in Insull, Kentucky to Ray and Florence (Furrell) May. She was employed as a supervisor for the Kellogg Company since 1975, until her retirement in 1997. Dorothy was a member at the Gateway to Heaven Ministries Church, where she served as church secretary. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting Kellogg memorabilia, and was involved in the puppet ministry. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Dorothy married Thomas Caswell on September 10, 1992, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Ann (Darrell) Junkins, of Richland, and Karen Lynn (Harold) Carlisle, of Three Rivers; one son, Kevin D. Kell, of Auburn, IN.; a step-son, Scott E. Caswell, of Union City; a step-daughter, Robin Kincaid, of Battle Creek; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; three brothers, James May, Herman May, and H.L. May. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Shelby (Sonny) May, J.C. May, J.D. May and Charles May and one sister, Louise May. She is survived by her grandchildren, Allen (Bonnie) Wilbur of Bellevue, Jeff Carrigan of Muskegon, Pat (Janice) Carrigan of Muskegon, Chris Carrigan, Brian (Cheryl) Baker, Don (Debbie) Baker, and Susan Cooper and eleven great grandchildren. Mildred worked as a cook and waitress at the Eaton Diner, and with her husband on their farm. She enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn, baking pies, cooking, canning, puzzles, reading and bible study classes. Norman Emmitt McMillon Norman E. McMillon, age 83, of the Battle Creek/Marshall area passed away peacefully Thursday, December 2, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. McMillon was born on February 6, 1927 in Evensville, Tennessee to Isaac Steward and Carrie Pearl (Phillips) McMillon. On April 14, 1952, he married Jennie Murel Lang and shared the next fifty-eight years nurturing their relationship and the family they formed together. Their treasured family includes their daughters, Sheilla G. (Bruce) Matarazzo of Marshall, Pamela A. McMillon of Battle Creek, Peggy S. McMillon of Battle Creek and Dawn P. McMillon of Battle Creek; son, Norman E. McMillon II of Battle Creek; and four grandchildren, Dillon K. McMillon, Morgan P. McMillon, Paige A. McMillon and Kaitlyn N. Matarazzo. Norman was an extremely proud and involved father and grandfather who was especially close to his grandchildren. He took great interest in his grandchildren's lives and activities. He enjoyed watching his grandson's football games and his granddaughters' dance recitals. He was always eager to spend time with his family even if it meant simply chauffeuring the kids around town. His wife and family survive. He is also survived by a brother, W.A. "Dub" (Carolyn) McMillon of Pennfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances D. McMillon. Norman was a proud American and had served in the United States Army in both World War II and the, . At the time of his honorable discharge, he was serving at the rank of Sergeant. He had been employed as a Master Millwright for the Post Cereal Company in Battle Creek. He retired in 1989, after serving the company for 30 years. During his career, Mr. McMillon served as the Maintenance Top Committee Union Officer for the RWDSU Local 374 and had also been a member of the Carpenters Union. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #12 in Battle Creek. In his retirement, Norman liked to keep busy. He was a natural craftsman and could use his talent to create or fix almost anything. He also enjoyed gardening and landscaping. A favorite hobby of Norman's was collecting pocket knives. Each knife in his collection had a special story or memory that he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. Norman had an outgoing personality, and seemed to either know or make friends everywhere he went. He is fondly remembered for his warm, engaging smile. Visitation will be at the Craig K. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. Robert W. (Bob) Gibson

Robert W. (Bob) Gibson Climax Robert W. Gibson passed away Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 at Bronson Hospital surrounded by his family. Bob was born February 3, 1945 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Clyde and Kathryn (Carlson) Gibson. He attended Climax-Scotts High school graduating in 1963. He was a standout basketball player for the Panthers nicknamed "Lonesome End Bob" for his scoring ability on offense. After graduation he was drafted by the Army and was stationed in Germany from 1964 - 1966, where he was a cook and a meat cutter. After returning home he would often cook for the family making enough to feed a small army. After the army, he worked for Keene Corporation in Kalamazoo for over 20 years until the company closed. He then began working for the Climax-Scotts School District and became head of maintenance until his retirement in 2007 after 23 years. Bob enjoyed watching sports and was a Big, fan. He loved ice fishing, golfing, bowling and playing softball, winning many tournaments with his little brother Mike. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and close friends, Charlie, Ernie, Steve, Leon, Hank and Dan. He was also a regular at Mom's Sunday dinners. In June of 1971 Bob married Johanna Mottor, together they raised three boys who survive: Bob (Martha), Bill (Shelly), Brad (Lisa); eight Grandchildren: Matt, Darren, Alyssa, Connor, Bobby Jon, Grace, Emma, and Brady. Also surviving are his mother, Kathryn; four sisters Linda Stephens, Nancy Foster, Carol (Lee) Borden, Robin (Gary) Eyre; one brother, Mike (Janet) Gibson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Clyde, and brother-in-laws Frank Stephens and Jim Foster. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Military Service at Fort Custer National cemetery will take place on Friday, December 10 at 11 a.m. A gathering to celebrate Bob's life will take place on December 11, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Scotts Community Center in Scotts, Michigan.
