Audrey I. King Battle Creek Audrey I. King, 87, went to be with the Lord at The Oaks (Legacy) at NorthPointe Woods on Friday, December 3, 2010. She was born September 1, 1923 in Altoona, Alabama to Charles and Deanna (Thompson) Murphree. Audrey grew up in Altoona, where she attended high school. She was employed in the Packing Room at the Kellogg Company for 27 years, until being disabled in 1978. Audrey was married to Carl Bailey in 1944. She was preceded in death by Carl, her first husband, on January 1, 1963; and by her son, David Bailey, daughter Pam Connell, and her grandson, Michael Connell. She was married to William G. King on September 14, 1968. Surviving are her husband William; three daughters, Carlene (Richard) Wofford of Battle Creek, Sandra Skinner of Tampa, Florida, and Billie Jo Waltz of Augusta; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 8 great great-grandchildren. Audrey was a pervious member of Meals on Wheels and the Kellogg 25 Year Club. She enjoyed camping in her travel trailers at the Tri-Lakes Campground, among others. She also liked gardening, riding her lawn mower, and the holidays. She loved the sunshine and traveling to Ft. Myers, Florida. But most of all, Audrey loved spending time with her family. At the request of the family, friends may call after 2:00p.m. Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Services to celebrate Audrey's life will be held at the funeral home 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Margaret Skidmore

Margaret Skidmore Richland Margaret Skidmore, 77, was born November 28, 1933 in Battle Creek to Winona Margaret Smith and Herbert Floyd "Brick" Smith. She died December 4, 2010 at home. She was a 1951 graduate of Battle Creek High School and a 1955 graduate of Eastern Michigan University. In 1956, she married Gary Skidmore who survives her. They have two daughters, Joan (Mark) Kuipers of Grand Rapids, and Linda (Bob) Van Dis of Kalamazoo. Her kindness, strong will, easy laugh, and great love of family is carried on by her grandchildren, Jacob Kuipers, and Matthew, Kerry, and Erik Van Dis. Margaret was first and foremost a wife, mother, and grandmother. Yet she was a close and loyal friend to many people. She was a great conversationalist and a wonderful listener. She loved to entertain and was happiest when surrounded by or talking on the phone to her friends and family. She and Gary traveled extensively over the years, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Hawaii and dinner with her family. She served over 30 years as an educator for the Battle Creek Public Schools, the last twenty serving as principal of Roosevelt and Post Elementary schools until her retirement in 1996. There she touched thousands of lives as a teacher and principal. She valued her staff, parents, and students greatly, and it was clear that they felt privileged to work under her guidance. Margaret was a very active community member, serving on the boards of the Sherman Lake Y Center, Battle Creek Junior Achievement, and Family and Children's Services of Kalamazoo. She was also a member of the Battle Creek Art Center, United Arts Council, Battle Creek Country Club, First Congregational Church, the "One and Onlies", and the CR Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood - having serving recently as as their president. Her love of life, great generosity, strong opinions, and wonderful spirit will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those she cherished as family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Shaw Funeral Home. Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Ott, First Congregational Church, officiating. Private interment, Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to Battle Creek Community Foundation. The oldest of five children, Rob loved to spend summers up north with family and friends. Summers were spent fishing and roaming the woods and fields of our beautiful state. Rob graduated from Oakland University and then the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois. He worked first as an associate of George Goodheart, founder of Applied Kinesiology and later practiced privately in Birmingham for 25 years. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. All those who knew Rob knew he was the facilitator of fun and joy and true engagement in life. Survived by beloved wife Lynn and daughters Sarah and Alyssa. Russell graduated from Colon High School in 1950. He was a, veteran serving in the United States, . He retired from the State of Michigan in 1985. Russell was a member of the, , American Legion, AmVets, all color tractor club and the two cylinder club. He loved making new inventions. One of those inventions was a chicken catcher. Russell also enjoyed farming, traveling, wintering in Harlingen, TX., and restoring antique John Deere tractors.
