Bernice “Bernie” Eltschlager, age 63, of Sylvania Twp., passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo.


 


 

Bruce A. Brandt

Bruce A. Brandt Lakeland Bruce A. Brandt, 67, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Battle Creek passed away September 21, 2010 after an unexpected illness. He was born on September 24, 1942 in Battle Creek to Ross and Wilma (Lux) Brandt. Bruce graduated from Union City High School in 1960. He was an active member of Emmett Rescue Squad where he served as president for many years. He also served the public for many years as a police officer with Emmett Township Police Department. Bruce worked at the Kellogg Company in many areas of the plant. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club and the Grain Millers Union. He married Linda Terburg in 1984, she survives. Bruce enjoyed Detroit Tiger baseball games, (attending all home spring training games in Lakeland, FL), playing golf, riding Gold Wing motorcycles, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and great grandsons, Bo and Luke Stafford. In addition to his wife, Bruce is also survived by his daughters, Brenda (Jeffrey) Holt, Julie (Chuck) Staky, of East Lansing, Shelly (Zach) Wagner, of St. Louis MO; Ammie Terburg, of Kalamazoo, and Tammy(Kenneth) Meade, of Vermontville, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a brother, Wesley (Jane) Brandt, a sister, Anne Brandt, of Burlington, nephews and a niece. Family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1p.m. Wednesday December 29, 2010 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 1pm with Rev. Travis Davis officiating. Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Harden M. Hoffman Battle Creek Harden M. Hoffman, 97, of Battle Creek died peacefully at his residence with his daughter at his side on Thursday, December 23, 2010. He was born March 14, 1913, in Martin, Michigan to Dirk and Henrietta (Nykamp) Hoffman. Most of his life he owned his own farm on Gorsline Road and did contract farming in the area. He was employed by Pennfield School System as Superintendent of Transportation and Grounds for 26 years, until retiring in 1980. After retirement, Harden and Dorothy resided in Haines City, Florida for 19 years during the winter months. Harden was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Preston on October 6, 1934. He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his beloved wife of 68 years on June 23, 2002; five brothers, Ernest, Edwin, Richard, Hollis and Gordon; five sisters, Esther, Frances, Joyce, Margaret and Ruth; half-sisters, Anna and Nellie; half-brother, Pete; and infant great-granddaughter Josie. Harden is survived by a daughter, Jeanette (Steve) Higgs of Battle Creek; two sons, Duane Hoffman of Battle Creek and Gayland (Christy Jo) Hoffman of Montgomery, TX; nine grandchildren Crystal Higgs, Kent (Marissa) Higgs, Brent (Charlotte) Higgs, Matthew (Julie) Higgs, Benjamin (Rachel) Hoffman, Brandon (Emily) Hoffman, Chelsea Hoffman, Cori Hoffman, and Cameron Hoffman; twelve great-grandchildren, Taylor, Emylee, Brock, Ashleigh, Ellise, Andrew, Evan, Brady, Lauren, Adeline, Addison, and Ella; and by many nieces and nephews. Harden attended Pennfield Presbyterian Church and North Avenue Church of God. He enjoyed playing golf and had a hole-in-one at Willowbrook Golf Course in Winter Haven, FL on April 11, 1989. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. At the request of the family, friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where they will be received 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m. December 28, 2010. Leola Lee Battle Creek Mrs. Leola Lee, 80, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, December 23, 2010. Mrs. Lee the daughter of the late Earnest and Hattie Prince, was born June 6, 1930, in Toomsuba, Mississippi. She attended the public school and received her high school diploma. She came to Battle Creek, in 1951. She met and later married William T. Lee, March 15, 1957, in Battle Creek, he preceded her in death July 27, 1998. Mrs. Lee owned and operated Less's Day Care with her husband, she was a Presser at One Hour Martinizing and was an Avon Representative for more than twenty years. She enjoyed cooking and was known in the community for cake decorating. She enjoyed planning family gatherings with lots of food, and spoiling the men with her favorite dishes. She was a Jehovah Witness and member of the Morgan Road Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. She was active in ministry work for more than 48 years. Mrs. Lee is survived by daughter, Yvonne Robinson, Battle Creek; brothers, Robert (Lula) Prince, Marvell (Ella Ruth) Prince, both of Battle Creek; and sisters, Corine Johnson, Battle Creek, Clarice Chappell, Ella Rose Neal both of Los Angeles, California. The oldest of five children, Rob loved to spend summers up north with family and friends. Summers were spent fishing and roaming the woods and fields of our beautiful state. Rob graduated from Oakland University and then the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois. He worked first as an associate of George Goodheart, founder of Applied Kinesiology and later practiced privately in Birmingham for 25 years. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. All those who knew Rob knew he was the facilitator of fun and joy and true engagement in life. Survived by beloved wife Lynn and daughters Sarah and Alyssa. Virginia L. (Ginny) Ganson Battle Creek Virginia L. (Ginny) Ganson, 80, died December 11, 2010. She was born September 23, 1930 to Clarence and Irene (Brown) Russell. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1948. Virginia is survived by five children, 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, David Ganson, preceded her in death. One brother, Denny Russell, also survives her. After her retirement in 1992 from Bill Knapp?s, she worked as a volunteer for her church and other Christian based organizations. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 12:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church.
