He graduated from Central Lake High School in 1957 and attended college for two years in Connecticut upon retiring from the Navy.

Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Donald James Butler Battle Creek Donald James Butler of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2010, surrounded by family. Born July 16, 1926, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Don relocated to Battle Creek in 1946 to manage Redwood & Ross, a position he held for 48 years until his retirement. He truly loved his work and enjoyed his many customers and their families. These friendships followed him into his retirement years and blessed him with many happy moments. Don was married to the love of his life, Margaret M. Erhardt, on February 22, 1947. They were loving parents to their three daughters and created a wonderful life for them. In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his daughters: Debra (Patrick) O'Keefe, Susan (Thom) McClinton and Diana (Edward) Schneider. Also surviving are grandchildren: Travis Hanson, Mary O'Keefe, James (Amanda) O'Keefe, Breah Cole, Brian Cole; one great-grandson, Trevor Hanson; another great-grandson expected soon; and a sister, Eileen McNeal. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Linda Butler; and three brothers, Robert, Richard and William Butler. Don's greatest passion in life was his family, with whom he enjoyed spending time and always loved unconditionally. His many friends and acquaintances are a testament to his love of people. His numerous hobbies included stained glass, gardening, woodworking and a continual quest for knowledge of nature and all things in life. His zest for life and his warm, loving personality serve as an inspiration for all who were fortunate to have known him. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Military honors and memorial services will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery for Don's family. In memory of how Don lived his life, please take time together with loved ones to share memories and thoughts of life, family and friends. James R. "Jim" Adair Westminster, SC James R. "Jim" Adair, 76 of Westminster, SC, formerly of Battle Creek, MI, died on November 21, 2010. He was born on November 4, 1934 in Grand, MI, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Ankney) Adair. James graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army. Jim worked for McDonald Dairy in Battle Creek as a truck driver for over 40 years. On January 17, 1970, in Charlevoix, Michigan, Jim was united in marriage to the former, Marjorie "Pete" Inez Music. They lived in Battle Creek, where they had a son, Jimmy Adair. His wife preceded him in death on April 17, 2001. Jim is survived by his son, Jimmy of Kalamazoo, MI; his sister, Elaine Simonsen of Charlevoix, MI; and a brother, Frank D. Adair of Florida. Also surviving is his companion, Annette Wolf of Westminster, SC. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Larry "Gordy" and Duane and his sister, E. Betty (Adair) Sherman. Jim was a member of the Eagles Aerie #299, Battle Creek. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and a great game of pool, but loved to spend time with his family and many friends. As a Presbyterian minister, he served churches in Niles, White Pigeon, Marshall (1966-1981), and Unadilla, Michigan. The oldest of five children, Rob loved to spend summers up north with family and friends. Summers were spent fishing and roaming the woods and fields of our beautiful state. Rob graduated from Oakland University and then the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois. He worked first as an associate of George Goodheart, founder of Applied Kinesiology and later practiced privately in Birmingham for 25 years. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. All those who knew Rob knew he was the facilitator of fun and joy and true engagement in life. Survived by beloved wife Lynn and daughters Sarah and Alyssa.
