Betty M. (Collins) Smith, age 79, formerly of Mendon, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at her home in La Grange, Ind. where she has resided the past three years. She was born in Lansing on Aug. 27, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Grace (Walker) Collins, and later graduated from Union City High School. Betty was married to Carlton “Bud” Bush and they were later divorced.  Betty was married to Robert W. Smith on Nov. 13, 1971 in Angola, Ind. They resided in Coldwater before moving to Mendon. She attended St. Edward and St. Barbara Catholic Churches. Betty was a homemaker and was frequently a driver for the Amish community. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Betty is survived by a son, Christopher Bush of Sturgis; three step-children, Robert Smith, Jr. of Coldwater, Judy Wyatt of Angola, Ind., and Christine Bradley of Union City; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters in law, Mae Collins of Thousand Palms, CA, Joan Collins of Union City, and Marian Cazier of Augusta. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob in 2001; three brothers, Bruce, Dick, and Kenneth Collins; two sisters, Elaine MacDonald and Margaret Arbogast; a son, Eric Bush, and three daughters, Jane Rios, Carla Butchbaker, and Gayle Brubaker. Brian Eugene Gillentine of Adrian, age 30, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 29, 2009. He was born Oct. 23, 1978, to Sharon and Robert Gillentine. Brian is survived by his girlfriend, Devin Pickford of Hudson; two beautiful children, Grayson, 8 months, and Alyssa, 11; his father, Robert Gillentine; two brothers, Shawn Gillentine and Robby Gillentine; a sister, Ashton Deleon; his grandmother, Geri Echler; and his aunts, uncles, and many cousins and friends, who loved him dearly.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Gillentine; grandparents, James and Ethel Smith; uncle, James Smith; and his grand­­­­father, Paul Gillentine. Charles Nathan Wilkes, 79, of Hudson, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at home. He was born Oct. 18, 1929, in Frederick, Mich., the son of Gene and Mary (Swartz) Wilkes.  He retired from General Motors after 32 years of service in the Flint area. He married Della Faye Marshall on Aug. 8, 1987, in Litchfield. She survives. Milton and Grace (Rohr Fairchild) Benedict. Doyle was married Sept. 7, 1941 to Katie Frazeur and she survives. Doyle was a 1934 graduate of Jonesville High School and a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church. He was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Blue Lodge. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during WWII. Frances Hallan, age 90, of Holland, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Hospice House of Holland.  Fran was born in Terre Haute, IN, and  lived in Holland for the last 74 years. She graduated from Holland High School in 1936, attended Hope College for two years, and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940 with a Bachelors Degree in Business. Fran was a longtime member of Hope Church. Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1981 after 40 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Rosemary. Tom graduated from Plymouth High School in 1953 and from Albion College in 1957. Following graduation, he moved to Greensboro, Georgia, continuing the family lumber mill there. After his long career as President of Greensboro Lumber Company, he wrote several short stories and several novels. Tom was a servant of God, going on mission trips and serving in his church. He will be greatly missed. A service is planned for 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 3, 2009 at the New City Fellowship Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. |

Genevieve McCain, age 96, formerly of Mendon, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Birch Adult Foster Care Home in Leonidas where she had resided the past six years.  She was born in Elkhart, Ind., n April 21, 1912, the daughter of Marvin and Erta (Reid) Brown.  She attended both Kalamazoo and Three Rivers schools.  Genevieve was married to Gordon McCain on March 25, 1931, in Goshen, Ind. They resided briefly in Three Rivers before moving to Mendon in 1940.  Genevieve was employed by the Mendon Company, and by the Ralph Jones and Walt Pyshko insurance agencies, all of Mendon.  She also served as the Mendon Village treasurer for many years.  Gen was a member of the National, State, and Mendon Grange #1513, and the Michigan Retired Teacher’s Association.  She was a member of the Mendon United Methodist Church and was active in the Golden Agers before moving to Leonidas. Genevieve is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Marlene and Dennis Sherman of Vicksburg, Alice and John Zinsmaster and Florence and Roger Stienbarger both of Mendon;  four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Marjorie Everson of Mendon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Marion Davenport of Three Rivers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon in 1973; three brothers, Melvin, Kenneth, and Harwood Brown; three sisters, DeVere Wilhelm, Dorothy Baker and Clarice Gregory;  three grandchildren, Alan Stienbarger, Kenneth Zinsmaster, and Kathlene Bickel; two great-grandchildren, Jeremy Walter and Jamie Zinsmaster. The family will receive friends from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with Rev. Harbert Taylor Elliott Aug. 18, 1924 — Jan. 25, 2009 Harbert Taylor Elliott, 84, of Hudson, formerly of Jackson, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Heartland Health Care Center in Jackson. He was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Battle Creek, the son of Elliott and Pearl (Darring) Taylor. Harbert married Arlene Mae Garwood on June 22, 1946, in Jackson.  She survives.  He worked for Walker Muffler in Jackson for over 32 years.  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WW II.  Harbert was a big fan of auto racing, both as a participant and a spectator.  His favorite driver was Bill Elliott.  His other hobbies include golfing, fishing, being outdoors and watching John Wayne movies.  He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and riding around in his Cadillac with his family. Harbert is survived by his wife, Arlene; six children, Taylor “Lee” (Tammy) Elliott of Jackson, James (Mary) Elliott, Kathleen (Ted Kopp) Bunting all of Hudson, Mikel (Kim) Elliott of Hillsdale, Christine (Carl) Stoyk of Hudson, Joseph (Karin) Elliott of Osseo; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, David Dean Elliott and William Elliott; granddaughter, January Elliott and grandson, Scott Elliott.  Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 at Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with the Rev. They shared many great times as Joel coached Andy's basketball and baseball teams. He is also survived his beautiful daughter, Kelsey Catherine, who made him so proud. He loved watching her play basketball and perform with the dance team. Kenneth Winstrom, 89, of Zeeland, died Sunday, February 1, 2009.  Ken was born February 27, 1919 in Flint, Michigan, to Oscar and Cornelia Winstrom.  He was a member of First Reformed Church of Zeeland where Ken has served as an elder, deacon and taught Sunday school.  Before retirement Ken was self-employed as an Allis-Chalmers dealer for 30 years.  During World War II, Ken served his country in the U.S. Army.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor; daughter, Violet Winstrom of Kentwood; son, Victor Winstrom of Holland; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy and George Van Farowe; in-laws, Nella and Dr. Robert Burton, Donald and Hilda Pyle, and Virgil Janssen.  Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 at First Reformed Church of Zeeland, 148 E. Larry Lee Waffle, 65, of Burlington, passed away at his home Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009. He was born December 14, 1943 in Battle Creek to Carl A. and Anita Belle (Johnson) Waffle. Larry had lived in the Tekonsha and Burlington area all his life, graduating from Tekonsha High School in 1962. He married Judy (Waisner) in Potterville on Sept. 12, 1962. His favorite job was farming. He raised and showed Limousin cattle and Hampshire hogs. He worked at Eaton’s in Marshall for 30 years, retiring in 2005. He is survived by a son: Bryan Scott (LeAnn) Waffle of Coldwater, a daughter, LeAnn Waffle of Kalamazoo, Judy Waffle of Burlington; grandchildren; Courtney and Cody Waffle of Coldwater and Savanna Waffle of Kalamazoo and Burlington; brother Reid (Rose Marie) Waffle of Burlington and sister Sue (Bill) Powell of Tekonsha, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He enjoyed hunting pheasant and deer. He was a member of the Marshall Moose and the Local 220 Union. He was active with the 4-H program for many years, he belonged to the Michigan Limousin Association, the North America Limousin Foundation and the Hampshire Herdsman Association. Larry also bowled on the Eaton’s Bowling League for many years. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Putnam’s of Tekonsha. Leon J. DeJongh, 94, went to be with his Lord on January 31, 2009. Born in Holland, MI, he graduated from Hope College in 1936 and served in the U.S. Army for three and a half years during World War II. He was an accountant in the quality control department of General Motors, Fisher Body Plant #1 in Grand Rapids, MI, retiring after 33 years of service in 1974. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Margaret, who died on December 26, 2008; he is survived by two sons, Dr. L. Carl (Veda) DeJongh of Palmetto, FL and Curt (Mary) DeJongh of Grand Haven, MI; as well as seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Leon and Margaret were both members of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. Guza in 1970 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Parisville. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1999., She is a graduate of Sandusky High School. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. Lucinda E. McFeeters (Cindy), 87, of Chestnut Ridge, NY,  died peacefully Jan. 15, 2009, after a brief illness.  Cindy was born at home on Dec. 31, 1921, in Putnam County, Ohio, to Bertha (Ellerbrock) Leopold and Ben Leopold.  Among her chores on the family farm, Cindy awoke early to milk cows and drove a large work horse to lift hay into the barn.  As a young woman she ran a drill press for a company that made radio condensers.  Cindy was married on May 18, 1943, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, to Floyd McFeeters, of Defiance, Ohio.  After the war they move to a farm near Jewell, Ohio, where the family grew to four children.  In 1960 the family moved to a farm between Sturgis and Centreville, Mich.  In 1976 Cindy move to LaGrange, Ind.,and then to Wolcottville, Ind., where she lived until moving to Chestnut Ridge in 1996.  Cindy was deeply moved by views of the natural world and loved to cook and share new recipes.  She loved going out with friends and visiting her sisters and brothers, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved to drive and travel by train and plane.  Preceding Cindy in death were her ex-husband, Floyd; her brother, Edmund Leopold; and two brothers who died in infancy.  She is survived by brothers Henry Leopold of Defiance, Winfred Leopold of Duluth, Minn.; sisters Margene Ankney, Juanita Reiman and Mary Herder, all of Defiance; her children Roger McFeeters of Raleigh, NC, Sandra Quadri of Chestnut Ridge, NY, Carolyn Bean of Kendallville, Ind., and David McFeeters of Shelburne, Vt.; and grandchildren Joshua McFeeters, Rana Quadri, Reshelle Misak, Rebecca Layman, Ryan Schuler, Benjamin McFeeters, and Elizabeth McFeeters and six great-grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Ohio at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.  A luncheon will immediately follow in the church hall.   |

Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Mildred Eleanore Rautio Peters died Jan. 29, 2009. She was 94.     Mildred was born on July 8, 1914, in Lead, S.D. Her parents were Emil Rautio and Senja Berg Rautio, who had emigrated from Finland to the United States as teenagers and met in Lead. Mildred lived in Lead and attended school there until she moved with her family to Detroit, Mich. She was a graduate of Detroit Central High School and attended Suomi College in Hancock, Mich. She held jobs with J.L. Hudson’s Department Store, Maccabees Insurance Company, and Jam Handy Productions. On May 8, 1937, she married Earl J. Peters of South Bend, Ind., who had been a classmate at Central High School. She and Earl lived in Detroit, Grosse Pointe City  and Grosse Pointe Woods. They had three sons, Kenneth Earl, David Owen and Richard John. Mildred and Earl joined the Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church, where Mildred was a loyal choir member and soloist. In 1955 the Peters family moved to Adrian, Mich., where Earl was employed as sales manager for Ace Drill Company. The family joined the Adrian Presbyterian Church and Mildred sang in the choir. She also co-founded the Adrian Women’s Matinee Musical. When Earl retired in 1979, they built a home in Seneca, S.C. There they were both very active in the Seneca Presbyterian Church; Earl until his death in 1994. Mildred sang in the choir until she was 93 years old. She was the founder of the Seneca Matinee Club, a women’s civic organization. In 2007, Mildred was a sojourner at the home of her son, Richard, in Lorain, Ohio. She subsequently moved to the Towne Center in Avon Lake, Ohio, where she lived until her death. Mildred loved music, photography, gardening and sailing. She and Earl were members of Crescent Sail Yacht Club in Grosse Pointe Farms and Devils Lake Yacht Club in Manitou Beach, and they enjoyed weekends and summers at their cottage on Douglas Lake near Levering, Mich. Mildred is predeceased by her husband, Earl J. Peters; sister, Helen Taylor; and brother, Ray Rautio. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth and his wife, Ellen, of Chapin, S.C., David of Whitmore Lake, Mich., and Richard and his wife, Susan, of Lorain, Ohio. Other survivors include five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to The Crossroads Hospice, 1742 Georgetown Road, Hudson, Ohio 44236 or to the Memorial Garden Fund of the Seneca Presbyterian Church, 115 W.S. First St., Seneca, S.C. 29678. Mildred and Earl created the Memorial Garden, where Earl and others have been laid to rest.   |

Nancy B. Nauta, 78, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at her home.  She was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Griffith, Indiana, to Russell and Thelma (Stewart) Blanchard. She was married Aug. 27, 1951, to John Nauta Jr. and he preceded her in death in 1993. Nancy has been a resident of Hillsdale since 1980 and she was a former volunteer for the Health Department for many years. Surviving are two daughters, Nora (Clarence) Kern of Montgomery and Nancy (Jay) Bumpus of Hillsdale; three sons, Keith Nauta of Hillsdale, John (Karen) Nauta of Lake Station, Indiana and Mike (Michelle) Nauta of Hillsdale; nine grandchildren; sister, Sara Hammende of Crown Point, Indiana and brother, John Blanchard of Webster, New York. Mr. Raymond J. Kenjesky, age 67, died Saturday, January 31, 2009. He was born in Muskegon on April 21, 1941 to Charles and Bertha (Mayette) Kenjesky. Mr. Kenjesky had served his country in the U.S. Army and been employed as an Engineering Draftsman at Hart & Cooley until retiring in 2005. He loved to hunt deer and deep sea fishing. SURVIVORS Mother, Bertha Kenjesky of Muskegon Heights; sister, Ruth (John) Monaghan of KY; niece, Melissa Monaghan; nephew, B.J. Monaghan, both of KY; aunt and uncle, George (Arlaine) Mayette of Norton Shores. Robert J.(Bob) Miller, age 89, of Burr Oak, passed away, Sunday, Feb. l, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, after several months of failing health.  Bob was born Aug. 3, 1919, in Three Rivers, a son of the late Kirby and Verna (Replogle) Miller.  Bob grew up in Three Rivers, moving to Burr Oak after his marriage in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Grimes from June of 1944 to January of 1946, during World War II.  On June 8, 1941, he married Norma R. Baldwin in Burr Oak. She preceded him in death on Feb.17, 2008. Bob had owned and operated the former Miller’s Grocery Store in Burr Oak from 1942 to 1986, when it closed. He had been an active member of the  Burr Oak Fire Department for over 60 years.  Early in life he had played fast pitch softball, was an avid bowler, had been a member of the Burr Oak Board of education for over 20 years, where he had served as president.  He is survived by daughter, Sandy (Allen) Hoopingarner of Burr Oak; a son, Wayne (Karen) Miller of Union City; five grandchildren, Scott (Laurie) Gotshall of Las Vegas, Nev., Jan (Tod) Schipper of Colon, Rob (Kem) Hoopingarner of Vicksburg, Steve (Jaymie) Miller of Wyoming and Matt Miller of Burlington; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Megan Schipper and Regan and Peyton Hoopingarner; and several nieces and nephews.  Bob was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Virginia Miller; three brothers, Paul (Spud), Clarence (Hap) and Ray Miller; and five sisters. Gladys Ward, Eilleene Katz, Eunice Tessin, Helen Hughey and Doris Withers. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral Services celebrating the life of Robert J. Miller will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Karen Nachtigall of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Union City officiating.  Burial will follow at South Colon Cemetery, with Military Honors conferred by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.   If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Bob to the Burr Oak Community Foundation. |

Ruth Puffer, age 93, of Mason died Feb. 1, 2009. She was born March 19, 1915, in Holloway, the daughter of Ted and Lena (Pocklington) LaBounty. On Dec. 24, 1936, she married Ray Puffer in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1997. Ruth was a graduate of County Normal and Eastern Michigan University. She retired from the Tecumseh Public Schools in 1980.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mason and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh. Ruth was a member of Chapter AJ-PEO and Mason Woman’s Club. In addition to her husband Ray, she was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Mary, and sister, June Pichler. She is survived by two children, Dr. Raymond L. (Kathleen) Puffer of Victorville, Calif., and Miriam (Robert) Sybrandy of Lansing; four grandchildren, Ted and Faith Anne Puffer and Thomas Sybrandy   and Sarah (Mark) Genovese; sister, Ellen (Clif) Stitt of Jackson, and two brothers, Raymond LaBounty of Townsend, Tenn., and Donald LaBounty of Ellenton, Fla. Sister Marie Rachel Forster, died on Jan. 30, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 93 years of age and in the 74th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Marie Rachel was born in Detroit, Mich., to Joseph and Julianne (Grohman) Forster. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Latin from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich., and a Master of Arts Degree in Latin from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. Sister spent 47 years ministering in education in Detroit, Berkley, and Royal Oak, Mich.; Chicago and Harvey, Ill.; Winslow, Ariz.; and Nassau, Bahamas. She ministered at the Wing Lake Development Center in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., for three years as a Foster Grandparent. She was a Library Aide at the Royal Oak Library for one year, and Outreach Aide at the Royal Oak Senior Community Center for two years. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1995. Sister Marie Rachel is survived by a sister, Agnes Forster of New Port Richey, Fla. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m in St. Catherine Chapel. Sister Irene Morence, formerly known as Sister John Marie Morence, died on Feb. 1, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 94 years of age and in the 75th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Irene was born in Owosso, Mich., to John and Mary (Gieski) Morence. She graduated from St. Paul High School in Owosso, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in French from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and a Master of Arts Degree in Spanish from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Sister spent 36 years ministering in education in Chicago, Rockford and St. Charles, Ill.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Royal Oak, Detroit, Lansing and Adrian, Mich., and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Sister ministered in four Congregation schools: Aquinas High School in Chicago, St. Dominic College in St. Charles, Ill., Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and Colegio Santo Domingo in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She was Treasurer at St. Dominic College in St. Charles, Ill., from 1966-1970. Sister was Financial Aid Program Director at Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian from 1970 to 1989. She used her secretarial skills at INAI Studio in Adrian from 1989 to 1994. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1994. Sister Irene is survived by a sister, Margaret Conley of Owosso, Mich. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sr. Margretta Morence, also an Adrian Dominican Sister. She graduated from St. Michael’s in Flint in 1944. Viola married Robert E. Cauley on April 30, 1955, in Flint.  He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2005. Viola was a homemaker, having raised eight children whom she was very proud of.  She was a member of the St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church in the Irish Hills and an active Republican Party member. Viola Catherine Cauley, age 82, of Onsted went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009. Viola was born on June 30, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Bertha Lusty. She graduated from St. Michael’s in Flint in 1944. Viola married Robert E. Cauley on April 30, 1955, in Flint.  After celebrating 50 years of marriage together, Robert preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2005. Viola was a homemaker, having raised eight children whom she was very proud of. She was an active member of the St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church in the Irish Hills. For more than 10 years, she has belonged to a group that has met (at the home of her good friend Lorretta Lambaugh) the 13th of the month to pray the Rosary.  She prayed the Rosary of the Devine Chaplet at her home daily. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society. Wells W. Beebe, age 92, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at his home. He was born Jan. 7, 1917 in Rome Center to Charles  and Mable (Wells) Beebe. He was married April 20, 1941 in Adrian to Donna Baragar and she survives. Wells was a 1935 graduate of Adrian High School and was the former owner of Hillsdale Cartage Company. He was a member of College Baptist Church and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was an avid deer hunter and ice fisherman. Surviving besides his wife, Donna are a son, Bill Beebe of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Sharon (John) Flowers of Crystal Falls, Mich.; two brothers, Weldon (Alice) Beebe and Donald (Evelyn) Beebe both of Adrian; and a grandson, Jake Flowers of Seward, Alaska. Wells was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters, Katherine and Shirley, and a brother Wayne. Funeral services for Wells W. Beebe will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Jason Mekelburg officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to the College Baptist Church.
