Ada Ver Hulst, age 96, of Holland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Resthaven Care Center.  Ada was a longtime member of Third Reformed Church in Holland.  She worked at the Family Fare grocery store on Lincoln Avenue for many years.  Along with her brothers, Fred and Len, she frequently sang at Resthaven Care Center.  Ada graduated from Holland Christian where she delighted in playing basketball.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1960.  She is survived by her children, Terry and Helen Ver Hulst of Zeeland, Nancy and Dennis Gebben of Zeeland; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin and Marianne Ver Schure of Florida; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Andy (Florence) Ver Schure of Holland, Mrs. Len (Allie) Ver Schure of Fennville; several nephews, nieces and cousins.  The memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Third Reformed Church, 111 West 13th Street in Holland.  Reverends Bill Unzicker and Kama Jongerius will be officiating.  Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to Resthaven Care Center or Third Reformed Church.   An on-line registry book is available at www.lakeshorememorial.com   for those who cannot attend the services.       |

Ann Seliga, 93, of Souderton, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, in the skilled nursing unit of Genesis Healthcare Quakertown Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. “Dugan” Seliga. Born in Hazleton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Ella (Evanko) Andrasi.    Mrs. Seliga was a homemaker, but also worked part-time for various textile factories in the Hazleton area for more than 40 years. She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Hatfield, Pa., and in her free time she enjoyed puzzles, baseball and college basketball. She is survived by a son, Joseph R. Seliga of Mercerville, N.J.; three daughters, Mary Lou Snover and her husband, John, of Sellersville, Pa., Carol S. Weaver and her husband, Robert, of Souderton, Pa., and Gloria A. Bortnichak and her husband, Peter, of Onsted, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Albert Andrasi and his wife, Evelyn, of Hazleton, Pa. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, George, Michael, Joe, Paul, Andrew and Nick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, Pa. Annie Kiers, age 87 years, of Onsted passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Tendercare in Adrian. Annie was born on Sept. 1, 1921, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the daughter of Dirk and Antje (Audo) Bronsdijk. Annie married Wolter Kiers on July 7, 1945, in Amsterdam. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1987. Annie was an accomplished gymnast who qualified for the Olympic Games but was unable to compete because of World War II. Her family moved to the United States on July 27, 1957, with a sponsorship from the First Baptist Church of Adrian. She was an avid baseball fan of the Detroit Tigers. She worked as a bartender and she was one of the founding members of the Irish Hills Eagles Aeire Lodge #3689 of Brooklyn in 1980. Annie is survived by two children, Anne M. Bartlett of Onsted and Jon D. Kiers of Battle Creek; two grandsons, Jamison Bartlett of Onsted and Travis Kiers of San Antonio, Texas; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Henny Bronsdijk. Cremation has taken place. A Lodge of Sorrow Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted followed by a Celebration of Life Service with Pastor Tom McMichael officiating. Betty “Kay” Roe, age 56, of Adrian, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. She was born July 7, 1952, in Huntland, Tenn., to William and Maggie (Luttrell) Stovall. She was married to Paul Dean Roe on May 4, 1973, in Adrian. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1995. Betty had been employed by Super Laundromat. Her survivors include a stepdaughter, Rebecca Sue Roe of Camden, Mich.; two sisters, Virginia Cox of Manitou Beach and Hazel Hayes of Curtis, Mich.; and four stepgrandchildren. In addition to her husband, Paul, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lynn Stovall and Russell Stovall; two sisters, Ellan Speck and Vera Fields; and a stepson, Stephan Jerome Roe. At Betty’s request, cremation has taken place. He was born March 13, 1925, in Flint, to Clarence and Ethel (Gath) Skellenger. He married Gurneth Townsend on June 28, 1945 in Washington, D.C. Mr. Skellenger proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1980 from GM Truck & Coach as a machine repairman. Bill was a member of the Metamora Lions Club and Metamora Fire Department. He loved his garden, hunting, fishing and, in more recent years, bowling. It was a joy for Bill to have his grandchildren around. David E. Wagner 1919-2009 David Earl Wagner, 89, Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009, peacefully at his home. He was born in Harbor Beach on March 24, 1919 to the late David E. and Grace (Carr) Wagner. Dave and Anna Shubitowski were united in marriage on April 16, 1955. Dave graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1938 and from the Bay City Business College in 1940. He was drafted into the army in 1942 with the first army draft from Huron County and was stationed in France and Germany. After his discharge he was employed at Huron Milling Company and Hercules, Inc. until his retirement in 1985. Dave was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach and a life member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Anna Wagner, Harbor Beach; three sons, David (Mary) Wagner, Oakland Township, Michael (Nashua) Wagner, New Hampshire and Daniel (Kelly) Wagner, Wixom; two daughters, Grace (Greg) Williams, Acworth, Ga. and Colette Rossetti, Woodstock, Ga.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was born June 16, 1982, in Hillsdale, the daughter of Gary and Theresa (Ruede) Truitt. She is survived by her parents, Gary and Theresa Truitt of Moscow; one sister, April Truitt of Moscow; three sons, Austin Michael Curtis, Damian Scott Curtis and Ayden Raymond Woodruff; her fiancé, Andrew Woodruff of Moscow, whom she planned to marry on June 5, 2010; grandmother, Evelyn Truitt of Moscow; godfather, Duncan Howard of Jackson and many aunts, uncles, close cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Verl Truitt and her grandfather and grandmother, William and Margaret Ruede. Diana graduated from North Adams-Jerome High School in North Adams in 2000 and she was attending Baker College in Jackson where she was studying to be a Registered Nurse. She also worked as a General Manager at Papa Johns Pizza in Jackson for over two years. Donald J. Miller 1944-2009 Donald J. Miller, 64, Ruth, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Saginaw. He was born on June 30, 1944 in Ruth to the late Ignatius and Loretta (Lemanski) Miller. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Brown on June 27, 1964. Don worked as a meat cutter in several stores for many years. He loved hunting, working with his tractor on his hobby farm and he especially loved his grandchildren. Dr. James R. Bower 1932-2009 James R. Bower, 76, Caseville, passed away on January 29, 2009, with his family by his side at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. James Russell Bower was born on October 12, 1932 in Detroit. He was valedictorian of the Class of 1950 at Elkton Community High School and salutatorian at Central Michigan University in 1954. The first in his family to graduate college, Jim continued his higher education earning both a Master of Arts in Mathematics and a PhD in Education and Psychology from the University of Michigan s Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies at Ann Arbor. He was employed during three decades at the University of Michigan as an educator, psychologist and admissions director. Dr. Bower also owned a private practice and spent twenty years as a psychologist in the Van Buren / Belleville school district until he retired. Jim and Bev spent most weekends and summers at their cottage north of Caseville, which they purchased in 1970. Through highschool, Jim helped run the Bower Dairy Bar at Oak Beach, which was built by his parents, Harvey M. and Alvena Bower. Jim shared his passion for music, travel and creative expression with family and friends. He played tuba and piano, loved movies, musicals and people. Strangers became fast friends. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly; twin sons, Jeffrey (Jayne) Bower, Ann Arbor and Jonathan (Joyce) Bower, Byron Center; daughter, Jamie (Kenneth) Maskell, Concord, Calif.; his namesake, James (Barbara) Bower, Byron Center; four pairs of grandchildren, Benjamin and Jonathan James, Bradley and Sara, Jenna and Kristen and Andrew James and Kersten and his sister, Carol (James) Hunt, Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his proud parents, Harvey M. and Alvena Bower, Port Austin; his sister, Myrtle and his brother, Warren. The life of Dr. James R. Keel, Elden Ray Breckenridge, Michigan Age 84, went to be with the love of his life and savior on February 12, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, surrounded by family. He was born January 18, 1925, in Midland County, the son of Leroy and Virginia Keel. He graduated from Merrill High School class of 1943. He served as an M.P. in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 15, 1947, he married his grade school sweetheart Ruth Hall in Wheeler, a union of almost 60 years. They raised two children and shared the memories of a lifetime. He farmed until 1967 and retired from Dow Chemical after 35 years. After retiring he worked as a custodian at the Breckenridge United Methodist Church, a currier for Farmers' State Bank and assisted at Whiting's Funeral Chapel. Elden was a member of the Breckenridge United Methodist Church for 31 years; as well as a member of the Breckenridge American Legion. The things he enjoyed most were the hobbies and interests that he shared with his wife, including, camping, gardening, walking, traveling, craft shows, and woodworking. The devotion and care he showed for his wife was the ultimate display of unconditional love. His wonderful stories, jokes, and words of wisdom that made those around him all smile, will be forever missed. As a husband, father, and grandfather he was an exceptional man that made every person in his life feel loved and treasured. Eleanor Louise (Bystry) Galloway, age 90, of Bronson, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. She was born on June 20, 1918, in Bronson, one of three children born to Lawrence and Bernice (Barkowski) Bystry.  Raised and schooled in Bronson, Eleanor married Jesse Galloway and moved to Battle Creek, where she volunteered as a “Gray Lady” at Lakeview General Hospital for many years. She later worked in the apparel industry until her retirement. Jesse died in 1977. In the 1980’s, Eleanor returned to Bronson to live closer to family. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, James V. and Hallie Galloway of Dallas, Texas; her brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Donna Bystry, living in Wisconsin; and her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Jesse and her brother, Albert Bystry. Eleanor was a dedicated member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church and was very close to her family. She enjoyed baking and tending to her yard and flowers. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson, with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Age 76, of Allen Park (formerly of Detroit) passed away Friday, February 13, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Nelda was born on January 24, 1933 in Detroit to Harold and Jessie Bauer. She graduated from Detroit Cooley High School. She married David Freshel on September 5, 1952. During their marriage, they welcomed a daughter and two sons into their lives. Nelda earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Wayne State University and taught elementary school in Lincoln Park for more than thirty years. She loved working with children and touched the lives of many. In addition to teaching, her passions included art, music, gardening, and, first and foremost, her family. She was an exceptional lady who took every opportunity to praise the best in others. Even in sickness, she never missed the chance to say a kind word to those who cared for her. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends, her neighbors, former students and everyone who had the honor of knowing her. In life, she taught us to love. In sickness, she taught us strength. In death, she teaches us to live with grace. George E. Murray Lapeer George E. Murray, 87, of Lapeer (formerly of Hammond, Ind.) passed away Sunday (February 8, 2009). He was born September 1, 1921, in Inkster, N.D., to George and Edith (Warner) Murray. He married Nora M. Bergerson on May 5, 1946 in Chicago, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Murray were members of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Lapeer. George served in the U.S. Navy, as a Corpman, in WWII. He worked at Union Carbide and Pullman Standard. George enjoyed traveling, fishing and feeding the birds. Mr. Murray was a loyal Cubs baseball fan and, most importantly, a loving husband and family man. Sontag on June 8, 1957 in Gagetown. Joseph “Ed” Martin, age 81, of Adrian, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. He was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Detroit to John B. and Louise (Hartung) Martin. He graduated from Morenci High School in 1945. He had been a resident of the Adrian area since 1948. On April 16, 1971, he married Shirley Cook. He was involved in dairy farming for 29 years, and then worked at Merillat Industries, retiring in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army Construction Engineers from 1946 to 1947. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #1665, and the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed bowling, and traveling with his wife. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by three sons, Joseph E. Martin Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Adrian, John D. Martin and his wife, JoAnn, of DeWitt, Iowa, and James A. Martin and his wife, Tami, of Cool, Calif.; a daughter, Marianne Martin of Adrian; three step-sons, Richard Cook Jr. of Adrian, David B. Cook and his wife, Marline, of Ionia, Mich., and Michael E. Cook, of Adrian; a stepdaughter, Sue Lewis, and her husband, Patrick, of Adrian; a brother, Jack Martin, and his wife, Nancy, of Adrian; four sisters, Sr. Pat Martin, O.P. of Adrian, Rosemary Case of Adrian, Barbara Ferris of Adrian, and Martha Monahan and her husband, Paul, of Hudson, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Gena Martin, of Somerset Center; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Larry A. Lopez, age 69, of Adrian, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in his home with his family at his side. He was born on Oct. 20, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Avelardo and Maria (Rangel) Lopez. He married Marjean Sackett and later married Peggy Tuell. Larry was a self-employed carpenter and a driver, owner and trainer of harness horses since the late 1970s. He was a member of the American Trotters Association, was an active outreach worker at the Lenawee County Migrant Camps as well as a foster grandparent for Lenawee County. In his free time he enjoyed reading, canoeing, golfing, mushroom hunting and fishing. Larry was an avid Notre Dame football fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandson. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Lyle Dean Domer was born Sept. 30, 1936, in LaGrange County, Ind. Lyle passed away on Feb. 8, 2009, in Bullhead City, Ariz.  He served four years in the United States Navy and 34 years of dedicated service with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He retired from the Chicago office in 1994 as communications manager. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Iva Jean and Lawrence Domer. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia, and three children, Gail (Peter), Timothy (Lisa) and Brian (Katharine). He was the loving grandfather of Madison, Grace, Regina, Sophia and Vincent. A memorial service will take place this summer in Illinois. Lyle will remain forever in our hearts. Mabel A. Keller, age 97, of Jasper passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.  She was born Nov. 13, 1911, in Pike Township, Fulton County, Ohio, to Alfred and Emma (Kutzley) Barnes. She attended the Fruit Ridge School and was a graduate of Sand Creek High School, Class of 1930. She then graduated from Lenawee County Normal School and taught at several Lenawee one-room schools, the last being Tuft School in Seneca. On March 4, 1933, she married John H. Keller of Morenci in Angola, Ind., and he preceded her in death in 1982. She was a member of the Jasper Woman’s Club, Fairfield Chapter #224 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Weston United Methodist Church, which she attended from early childhood. She and her husband owned Keller Insurance Agency from 1952 to 1978 where she managed the office until the agency was sold to their son, Howard.  She then spent her winters in Palmetto, Fla., where she was active in several clubs until 2004. She is survived by her two sons, Howard J. (Margie) Keller of Sand Creek and George W. (Alice) Keller of Sunbury, Ohio. A third son, Charles, died as an infant. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kevin H. (Debra) Keller of Jasper, Craig (Becky) Keller of Galena, Ohio, Kristi Keller of Sand Creek, Kerry A. (Constance) Keller of Sand Creek, Bradley (Mary) Keller of Galena, Ohio, and Karen Keller Lambka of Sand Creek; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Aldyth Barnes of Seneca. Besides her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Ruth Bovee, Blanche Waldron, Edith Thiel, Erma Graham, Howard Barnes, Donald Barnes, Everett Barnes and Vernon Barnes. The funeral service for Mabel will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Weston Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and an Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, conducted by the Fairfield Order of the Eastern Star. She was born April 4, 1914, in New York City, the daughter of Michael and Julianna (Plosnky) Gayer. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Lyle B. Salsbury, Harold G. Caulkins who was the former Police Chief of Hillsdale and Jack O. Blaine and two brothers, Frank and Louis Gayer. She is survived by one sister, Irene Landau of New Jersey; two sons, Ronald (Judy) Salsbury of Johnson City, Tenn. and Daniel Salsbury of Belleville, Mich.; one daughter, Carol (Robert) Mallendick of Maumee, Ohio; four grandsons, David (Tabitha) Salsbury of Johnson City, Tenn., Robert III (Shannon) Mallendick of Maumee, Matthew (Tara) Mallendick of Toledo, Ohio and Marc Mallendick of Maumee; five great-granddaughters, Hailey, Allison, Tabitha, Olivia and Emily Mallendick; three nieces, Ginger, Sharon and Gayle and many close friends. Mrs. Blaine served on the Election Board in Hillsdale for many years and she was a member of the Elks Lodge in Hillsdale. She was a vibrant wife and mother who was active until the very end. She will be missed by all who knew her. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Margaret Gayer Blaine will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale, with Pastor Dan Johnson officiating. Margaret L. Humphrys Lapeer Margaret L. Humphrys, 80, of Lapeer, passed away Saturday (February 7, 2009). She was born June 22, 1928, in Alma, Mich., to Leo and Margaret (Barry) Norman. She married Despard "Des" Humphrys on February 19, 1955. Margaret was a Registered Nurse who began her career out of state, but finished at Lapeer Regional Hospital. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. Mildred Van House, age 96, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Cypress Cove Retirement Home in Fort Myers, Florida.  She was born October 22, 1912 in Monticello, Minnesota to George and Mary Cornell.  She moved to Mount Morris, Michigan in 1924 and later lived in East Detroit, Birmingham, and Holland, Michigan, and  most recently in Fort Myers, Florida.  Mildred received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Michigan County Normal (Eastern Michigan University) and Wayne State University, respectively.  She was an elementary school teacher and taught for many years in Monticello, Minnesota, Warren Consolidated and West Ottawa schools in Michigan.  She was a member of the Cypress Lake United Methodist Church.  Mildred is reunited with Earl, her husband of 62 years, who passed away in February 2005.  She leaves one son, Richard Earl (Vickie) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and two great-granddaughters.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorials in Mildred's name may be given to the Cypress Cove Memorial Fund or Cypress Lake United Methodist Church.       |

Robert Michael Storch, 63, of West New York, NJ and Scottsdale, Ariz. passed away Feb. 11, 2009. Bob was born Aug. 10, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Ind. He lived a very generous, selfless life, always giving himself to others. He attended Ohio Northern University and graduated with a BS in  pharmacy. He also received his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. His work took him all over the country, most recently to Manhattan where he worked for Duane Reade as a VP of Pharmacy and Business Development. His leadership abilities led him from the President of his high school class to the President of his Theta Chi fraternity, and continued into his professional life. He was a member of NACDS, the St. John's College of Pharmacy Dean's Advisory Council, and a guest lecturer at Ohio Northern. He loved his work, his family, and the Lord, and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan (Bragalone) Storch, and his children, Alex and Anna. Bob was the son-in-law of Marilyn and Italo Bragalone, of Hillsdale. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale. Arrangements are being made by the family. Mrs. Richardson was a bookkeeper in her husband's businesses, and was employed at the Lyon’s Variety Store, at the Anderson’s as a cashier, at the Trading Post in Lyons, and had worked at the Morenci IGA. Rosella was born in Delta, Ohio, on June 27, 1920, the daughter of the late Arthur M. and the late Ethel M. (Yawberg) Chamberlin. She married Gaylord W. Richardson on July 20, 1939, and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1999. She was a member of the Universalist Unitarian Church in Lyons, Ohio, for many years. Surviving are her children, Ivan (Pam) Richardson of Jonesville, Mich., Sharon (Joe) Eich of Toledo, Lynn (Linda) Richardson of Delta; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; sister Pat (Don) Burgoon of Delta; and sister-in-law Peggy Chamberlin of Delta. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Lewis Chamberlin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon, with the Rev. Lynn Kerr officiating. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to American Diabetes Association or the charity of the donor's choice. Russell Bush, Jr. Traverse City/ Lapeer Russell Bush, Jr., 86, of Traverse City and Lapeer, passed away Tuesday (February 3, 2009) at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. Russell was born September 11, 1922, in Grant Township, to the late Russell and Clara (Woods) Bush. He married Thais B. Lackey on June 8, 1945, also in Grant Township. After Russell was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Corp in September 1945, he and Thais had four wonderful children. He was a hard worker, owned a diary farm, was a store keeper and a loan officer. He enjoyed traveling for over 35 years researching genealogy and visiting with family and friends. Sharon Lorayne Billiau Almont Sharon Lorayne Billiau, 72, of Almont, passed away Saturday (February 7, 2009). She was born December 15, 1936, in Detroit, to Thomas and Lorayne Blower She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Billiau, on December 15, 1953. After the last of her five children entered school, Sharon began college, graduating from Wayne State University with honors. She started her teaching career at Dryden Elementary School where she touched the lives of thousands of children and parents as first a remedial reading teacher and then principal. During this time she obtained her Master's in Education and a Master's in Administration. Even after she retired, Sharon started her own private school, Country Day Academy, where she continued to help those with varying needs and where she could put into practice her on philosophy of teaching. Shirley Elaine Makemson, 71, formerly of Camden, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at Harborside Health Care in Bryan, Ohio.  She was born June 17, 1937, in Detroit, the daughter of Robert and Eloise (Lutz) Makemson. Shirley graduated from Camden High School in 1955 and had been employed at Mohawk Tools.  She was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge in Bryan and her hobbies included cooking, knitting, crafts, and visiting the casinos. Survivors include two sisters, Kaye (Jerry) Lambright, Sr., Hillsdale and Sandra Smith, Fremont, Ind.; two nieces; one nephew and special friends, Dave, Jamie, Elizabeth and Isabel Holbrook, Clynn Moore and Jerry Freese. Her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Pastor Sam Wickard officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Oakridge Cemetery, Marshall. Visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials to her family would be appreciated. |

Solange N.  Roberts Jan. 31, 1925 — Feb. 2, 2009 Solange Noel Roberts, 84, passed away Feb. 2, 2009, peacefully in her home in Rio Rancho, N.M. Born Jan. 31, 1925, in the French territory of Suez, Egypt, to Charles and Louise Perceval, she was educated in Egypt and France. Her father, mother and her brother Paul preceded her in death. Surviving her are sister Patricia of Guadeloupe; half sister Jean-Marie of France; son Brian, his wife Bonnie of Vermont, son Marc, his wife Elizabeth, their children Rhianna and Brennan of New Mexico and daughter Monique (Boyd), her husband Kevin and children Avery and Sean of Illinois. Solange moved with her husband to Hillsdale in the 1950s. She was a generous and giving person devoting much of her time to helping other people. She volunteered with the Red Cross, Grey Ladies, Meals on Wheels and was a board member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She worked at Hillsdale College in admissions, teaching summer school French and at the college’s Health Service for more than 20 years. In 2002 she moved to New Mexico. She loved to read, play Bridge and be with her friends and family. Services were held in Rio Rancho on Feb. 9. Those desiring, can make contributions in her name to the American Heart Association.
