Arthur H. “Buck” Marquardt, 61, of Jerome, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at his home, following a long bout with cancer. He was born Nov. 10, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to Arthur and Margaret “Maggie” (Henry) Marquardt; she survives in Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Marquardt was married March 9, 1974, to Jutta Zoepke and she survives. Mr. Marquardt was a three-time graduate of the University of Toledo. He served 23 years as a secondary teacher at Madison High School from 1971 to 1995. In 1995 he was accepted into the Foreign Service where he served as a diplomat working in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Beijing before falling ill in 2003. Surviving besides his wife Jutta and mother Maggie, are two children, Lauren Marquardt residing at home and Jeffrey Marquardt of Beijing, China and a sister, Nancy (Jim) May of Vero Beach, Florida. Memorial services for Arthur Marquardt will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11 on the shore at Goose Lake, 9615 Lakeview Drive, Jerome, MI 49249. Barbara J. Demers, 71, of Osseo passed away Wednesday July 8, 2009 at the Mac McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. She was born March 5, 1938 in Gary, Ind. to Martin and Josephine (Koritko) Maluvac. She was married Aug. 17, 1957 to Michael Demers and he survives. Barbara was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale and was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose in Montpelier, Ohio. Besides her husband Michael, she is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Landers of Valparaiso, Ind.; a sister, Jo Anna Russ of Portage, Ind.; a brother, Bill (Diane) Maluvac of Chesterton, Ind.; three grandchildren, Charles Landers Jr., Michael Landers and Amanda Landers; and one great-grandchild, Eva Edinger. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Daniel, in 2008. A mass of Christian burial for Barbara J. Demers will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Father Ioane Sigarara as celebrant. Private family interment will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery. There will be a prayer vigil service 6 p.m. Friday with visitation to follow until 8 p.m., at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Caroline H. Reinke 1918-2009 Caroline H. Reinke, 90, Port Hope, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She was born on September 19, 1918 in Bloomfield Township of the Port Hope area to the late Albert and Theresa (Schave) Pleiness. Caroline and Carl Reinke were united in marriage on September 16, 1936 in Port Hope. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1975. Caroline was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope and enjoyed peeling potatoes with the ladies for the Harvest Home Dinner every year. She was a loving, caring and quiet person who enjoyed her family and flowers. She enjoyed doing word search books and living on the farm all of her life, taking care of chickens and cats. She always remembered all of her family's names and birthdays. She is survived by her children, Willard (Ramona) Reinke, Larry (Kathie) Reinke and Betty (Herb) Leese, all of Port Hope; daughter-in-law, Susan Reinke, Port Hope and son-in-law Gary Schave, Port Hope; sisters, Jean (Stan) Berry, Caro and Lena Pleiness, Port Hope; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; one son, Richard Reinke; one daughter, Joyce Schave; two grandsons, Mark Reinke and Randall Reinke; one great-great-grandson Taylor Fugate; brothers, Alex, Ernest and Erwin Pleiness; sisters, Emma Hartz, Olga Eggert, Esther Zelz and Louise Lampella. Don H. Bruce, 87, of Bowling Green, Ohio, died Sunday, July 5, 2009. Mr. Bruce was born July 23, 1921, in Ogden Township, Mich., to Robert and Fern (Harrington) Bruce. Don was a veteran of World War II; he fought with the 89th Infantry Division in the European theatre. He was a farmer, chemist and high school teacher in Blissfield for 17 years. Doris Eleanor Spencer Lapeer Doris Eleanor Spencer, 83, a lifetime Lapeer area resident, passed away Friday (July 3, 2009). She was born August 2, 1925, in Almont, to Henry and Muriel (Sawyer) Revoldt. She married John D. Spencer on October 19, 1946 at the Almont Congregational Church. Doris graduated from Almont High School, class of 1943. She worked many years at Firestone in Romeo, but was primarily a loving homemaker her entire life. Dwayne Ford McNall, 51, of Quincy died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. Dwayne was born Dec. 5, 1957 in Coldwater. He married Reanee Densmore Jan. 13, 1979 in Quincy. A longtime resident of Branch County, he was very active in his faith community and the Lockwood Community Church. He was an employee of the State of Michigan for 28 years. He also served as a reserve officer for the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Coldwater Police Department. Geraldine Kirschke, age 91, passed away July, 6, 2009, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. She was born July 17, 1917, in McCleans­boro, Ill., the daughter of Bert Clay and Mattie (Byrd) Ward. On Aug. 19, 1932, she married Marvin H. Rumsey. She later married Walter Kirschke on Aug. 6, 1956. Geraldine worked at Adrian College for 16 years. (Heymann) Williams. Hope was a homemaker and also worked at the Hudson Egg Exchange in Hudson and Coldwater. She graduated from Prattville High School Class of 1938, attended Betzer Community Church and was a member of the Women’s Missionary. She enjoyed her grandchildren, sewing, quilting and refinishing projects, until her later years. She also traveled to Europe with the Heymann family cousins and visited the ancestral village in Germany. Surviving Hope are four children, Faith A. (Wayne) Myers of Port Matilda, Pa., Joyce K. James D. Haney, age 79, of Burr Oak, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Heartland of Crestview Facility in Wyoming. He was born March 1, 1930, in Morgan County, Ky., a son of the late John and Lulu (Haney) Haney. James has resided in Burr Oak with his sister for many years, moving there from Kentucky. He had worked for Victor Screw Products for a few years and was an avid fan of baseball, especially the New York Yankees. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Surviving are two sisters, Earlene Stacey of Morgan County, Ky., and Oleneia Reaper of Burr Oak; a brother, Byron Haney of Fairborn, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ina Hill; and four brothers, Arnold, Norman, Larry and Iron. Graveside service celebrating the life of James D. Haney will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Burr Oak Cemetery, with the Rev. George Milliman, Burr Oak Missionary Church, officiating. Jane Isabelle (Collins) Pierson, 85, passed away June 25, 2009, at Odyssey Hospice in Tucson, Ariz., of heart failure. She was born in Sturgis, Mich., on Jan. 24, 1924, the only child of Elba and Jessie Collins.  Jane loved roller skating and camping in northern Michigan, the Upper Peninsula and Drummond Island as a youngster. Jane worked at the Kirsch Company in the payroll department and retired 30 years later as the payroll manager.  She and husband Ward were both active in the First Presbyterian Church, Klinger Lake Country Club and the Elks in Sturgis. After retirement, she and Ward enjoyed golfing trips, traveling to California for Christmas, and to Arizona to enjoy the warm winters. After Ward died, Jane moved to Green Valley, Ariz., in 1997 to live in the sunshine year-round.  She enjoyed attending concerts, plays, luncheons and dinners with her many new friends in Arizona.  She was always ready to visit her Michigan friends when the weather was nice claiming she never missed the snow and ice, just the people. Jane was a member of Valley Presbyterian Church and the Elks Auxiliary.  She was an American Legion Auxiliary member for nearly 65 years and volunteered at the VA Hospital for patient bingo, and she was always willing to help with fundraising for the veterans and packing boxes for the troops.  She volunteered at the Whipple Observatory Visitor’s Center for several years and loved talking to all the people. Jane is survived by daughters Linda Jorn and Nancy Tinkham-Thurm; step-sons Charles and Eric Pierson; grandchildren Alex, Emily, Jordon, Justin, Nathaniel, Rachel and Tiffany; a and sister-in-law, Jean Shears. Funeral services were at Valley Presbyterian Church July 6, 2009.  Grave-side services will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sturgis, Mich., Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.  Memorial tributes may be directed to the charity of your choice. Jane was a special lady. Thomas S. Dull 87, formerly of Sturgis Thomas S. Joan Smith, 58, of Holmesville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on July 5, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic following a fight with various illnesses. She was surrounded by her family who will miss her deeply. Joan was born Oct. 12, 1950 in Tennessee, the fourth of five children born to William and Bea Maynard. She met Neal Smith while a student at Great Lakes Bible College in Michigan and the couple were married on April 15, 1972. Joan worked in various positions at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, Ohio and was a member of Fredericksburg Church of Christ when she passed. Joan enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren; they were the jewel of her eye. She is survived by her husband, and her children, Matthew (Cindy) Smith, Sarah (Eric) Sheely, Andrew (Jodie) Smith, and Amanda Smith (and soon to be son-in-law Joe Ledford); six grandchildren, Shawn, Madelyn, Megan, Autumn, Maekayla, and Corban. She is also survived by a brother Gerald (Janet) Maynard of Reading and two sisters, Mary Ann (Bill) Craig of Camden and Carolyn (Phil) Smith of Georgia. Martha J. Klavinski, age 90, of Bronson, died early Monday morning, July 6, 2009 at Maple Lawn Medical Care facility in Coldwater. Martha was born Jan. 6, 1919 in Girard Township, daughter of William and Mary (Kelley) Tobolski and was a lifelong Branch County resident.. She married Floyd Klavinski on Nov. 8, 1947 in St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater. Floyd died on Nov. 26, 1977. In her early years, Martha worked at the former LA Darling Co. and Shaw Shoes in Coldwater and also at the former Douglas Corporation in Bronson (now Douglas Autotech). She was also a well known baby sitter. She was mostly known for her ability as a health care provider and care taker for many people over many years. She always chided that she should have been a nurse. Because of her caring attitude, many people have been able to live in their own homes instead of nursing homes for many more years . Martha was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson. She enjoyed walking, talking with friends and neighbors and her flowers. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Ralph Toupalik of High Ridge, Mo., Alice and Mike Cranson of Quincy, Janet and Gary Younce of Bronson and Candy and Mark Snyder of Bronson; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and her sister Veronica McMurtrie of Marshall. Also surviving are a special sister-in-law, Norma Klavinski and a special nephew, Edward Malovey along with several other in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Mary Hartsock, eight other sisters and four brothers. Marvin S. Sapiro, 83, of Chandler, Ariz., died peacefully surrounded by his family July 5, 2009. He was born July 25, 1925, in Baltimore, Md. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. When he returned home he was one of the first returning veterans to enter and graduate from the University of Virginia. On Sept. 5, 1948, he married Gloria Frank of Adrian, Mich.; they returned to Adrian in 1949. He worked for Louis Frank and Sons, branching off to start Tri-County Welding Supplies in 1953. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria, and three children, Leslie Sapiro, Bruce and Diane Raymond Sapiro of Chandler, Ariz., and Robyn L. Colucci of Boca Raton, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Jennifer and Todd Sapiro of Chandler, Ariz., and Dan, Melissa and Lara Colucci, all of Boca Raton, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Israel and Lillian Sapiro, and his in-laws, Julian and Rose Frank. |

Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Stephen Fillion, pastor of the St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, officiated. Michael O. Beach 59, passed away June 14, 2009, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father, Owen Beach, in 1969 and mother, Ruth Beach, in 2007. He is survived by a sister, Robyn (Ken) McClellan, and two nephews Jim and Matt McClellan of Florida. Mike retired from American Express and enjoyed spending time with his Great Dane, Timmy, and gardening in his yard. He was an avid reader and loved staying up all night reading or watching movies. He also enjoyed roller blading with his dog and riding his Harley up into the mountains. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Pauline M. Lambright, 93, lifelong Litchfield resident, passed away July 2, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  She was born May 17, 1916, in Litchfield, the daughter of Rex and Olive (Swope) Curey.  Pauline graduated from Litchfield High School and was a bus driver for the Litchfield Community Schools for 22 years.  She was a 70-year member of the Litchfield Rebecca Lodge and was the Litchfield site coordinator for the Hillsdale County Senior Services Center.  Pauline enjoyed camping trips, playing the piano and organ, watching soap operas on television, playing cards and painting in oils. On Dec. 23, 1934, she married Duane Lambright and he preceded her in death in 1987. Survivors include one daughter, Regina (Gordon) Knapp Litchfield; two sons,  Rex (Carol) Lambright Jonesville and Clifford (Judy) Lambright Onsted; one brother, Richard (Pauline) Curey Litchfield; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, two sons (Harvey and Charles Lambright), grandson (Tony Knapp), two brothers (Ransom and Levi Curey), and one sister (Ruth Lent). Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield, with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Phillis C. Staley, age 67, of Onsted passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at her home. Phillis was born on May 20, 1942, in Adrian, Mich., the daughter of Frances B. Stevens. She graduated from Onsted High School in 1960. Phillis married Jack L. Staley, Sr. on July 6, 1966, in Adrian. He survives. She was a former member of North Rome Baptist Church. Phillis enjoyed a class at Charlene’s Ceramics, sewing, pie making, roses, cooking, puzzles and naming things. She was a loving mother with a sense of humor who loved doing everything with her husband, Jack. Surviving, besides her husband, Jack, are their three children, Jack (Tammy) Staley, Jr. of Onsted, Jackie Harris of Brooklyn and Heidi (David) Rathke of Onsted; four grandchildren, Preston and Quentin Staley, Katie and Jared Harris; brother, Kermit (Nancy) Stevens of Florida; special cousin, Joyce Ruppert of Napoleon; and niece, Christine Osborne of Belleville. She was preceded in death by her mother, sister, Berna Mae Osborne; and son-in-law, Vance Harris. He graduated from Henry Ford Trade School and joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Dick married Billie Joan Duncan on May 17, 1946. Richard was retired from Sheet Metal Workers Local 80 of Southfield. He worked many years for Ensroth Construction. Dick loved to golf and had been a member of the Senior's Golf League in Capac. He also hunted and fished and was a lifetime member of the Brown City VFW and the Peck American Legion. He is survived by three children, Dennis Robbins of Edmonds, WA, Barb (Steve Wetter) Robbins of Brown City and Pamela (Terry) Scott of Arizona City, Arizona; one stepson, Larry Henderson, twenty-three grandchildren and forty-nine great grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one sister, Marie Vega and one daughter-in-law, Michele Robbins.. ROBERT ALAN DANIELSON LUDINGTON Robert Alan Danielson, age 54, of Ludington, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 28. Bob was born July 12, 1954 in Ludington, the son of Eugene and Stella (Claypool) Danielson. He grew up in Ludington graduating from Ludington High School with the class of 1973. He was married on Sept. 7, 2008 to Janice Cook and she survives. Bob was employed as a journeyman millwright by Harsco for 33 years and in his free time enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, NASCAR and spending time with his family. He was currently working on restoring a 1978 El Camino. He was a member of the Ludington Boat Club, the Dear Brothers Association, and UAW Local 811. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Janice Cook Danielson of Ludington; his children, Tim (Jessica) Danielson of Ludington and Shelly (Jeff) Samuels of Erlanger, Kentucky; his parents, Eugene and Stella Danielson of Florida; his in-laws, Wes and Bette Cook of Croswell; his sisters, Linda (Doug) Shank of Minnesota, Cindy Noble and Melody (Scott) Berryman, both of Florida; his grandchildren, Jordan, Jayden and Gabe Danielson; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Randall J. Schudel, age 75, of Adrian passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. Randy was born May 5, 1934, in Wauseon, Ohio, the only child of George and Louise (VonDeylen) Schudel. From 1953 to 1957, he served his country in the United States Air Force. On Feb. 1, 1957, he married Norma “Jean” Gerken at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Freedom Township, Ohio. Jean, his wife of more than 52 years, survives. Randy retired from Fayette Tubular in 1996.  In addition to his wife, Randy is survived by two sons, Steven (Shirley) Schudel of Bowling Green and Scott (Melinda) Schudel of Adrian. Also surviving are four grandsons, Alan (Rebecca), Christopher, Daniel and James; two granddaughters, Jeryl and Kellie; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in infancy. The funeral service for Randy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. He was born June 7, 1919, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Frank A. and Louise M. DeMint. The Rev. Milo DeMint spent many years as a minister of the Nazarene Church, with pastorates in Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. He was an ordained elder of the Michigan District Church of the Nazarene. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife and family: Wilmyth L. DeMint of Bourbannais; a daughter, Rebecca (David) Pitts of Gardendale, Ala.; three sons, Michael (Norma) DeMint of Gregory, Mich., Daniel (Dianna) DeMint) of St. Louis, Mo., and John (Debbie) DeMint of St. Anne, Ill.; two sisters, June (Dick) McKinley of Pataskala, Ohio, and Jewel Woody of Ripley, W. Richard V. Heck 1918-2009 Richard V. Heck, 90, Cheboygan, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Hospice House in Cheboygan. Richard was born November 8, 1918 in Pigeon, the son of Edward and Bertha (Weiss) Heck. He married Ida Mae Schweitzer on October 24, 1941. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1989. Richard married Louise Baur on November 5, 1994. He served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed in underground construction by Frank J. Knight in Troy for over 40 years, retiring in 1980 as a head foreman. Richard resided in Detroit most of his life, later in Atlanta for 20 years and finally in Cheboygan for the past 10 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, VFW Post #5857 in Onaway, and enjoyed collecting stamps, gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards and woodworking. Richard is survived by his wife, Louise; two daughters, Jean (John) Baumert, Indiana and Nancy Heck, North Carolina; one son, Keith (Cheryl) Heck, Wisconsin; three step-daughters, Dianna Baur, Florida, Marilee (Bernard) Lillie, Cheboygan and Karen (Roger) Richardson, Florida; one step-son, Andrew (Marie) Baur, Michigan; five grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. Robert F. Robinson Lapeer Robert F. Robinson, 77, of Lapeer for the last 23 years, passed away Tuesday (June 30, 2009). He was born February 19, 1932, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to George and Nora (Logan) Robinson. He married Norma J. Smith on January 19, 1957 in Detroit. Mr. Robinson proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a paratrooper and paramedic. Being a pilot was always something he was very proud of, along with the fun fact that he participated in air show acrobatics when he was very young. He was an entrepreneur and electrician by trade. Bob loved being a devout Catholic as a member of Immaculate Conception Church, as well as appreciating church architecture at his home church and everywhere. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being very family oriented - especially as a great dad. Sandra Elaine Benfield passed away May 15, 2009 in San Diego, California surrounded by her husband Darrell E. Benfield and 3 daughters. Sandy was known for her smile and hugs. She dedicated her life to serve Jehovah God on May 5, 1974 and she shared in spreading the news about God's Kingdom to many people. Her heart was full of love and she made you feel like a friend for years as soon as you met. Loving-kindness, joy and huggable were some qualities that came easy for Sandy. Friends and family have said that her hugs are going to be the one thing that is missed the most. Sandy was born in Round Lake Beach, Ill, on April 28, 1945 to Pearlie and Harriet Burgess. She was the oldest of four girls. She is preceded in death by her father and one day old daughter Cassandra. Sandy is survived her dearest companion of 42 years, Darrell of San Diego, Calif.; mother of Harriet of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; two daughters, Veronica (Jeremy) Streeter of Coldwater, Mich. Palmer, age 95, of Three Rivers, Mich., passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.  She was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Sturgis, a daughter of Merton and Edith (Laughlin) Miller. Mrs. Palmer has been a lifelong resident of this area.  She retired from Weyerhauser Corp., formerly Eddy Paper, in 1955.  She was a member of the Three Rivers Eagles Auxiliary #2303, American Legion Hice Shutes #170 Auxiliary, the Grandmothers Club, and D.A.V. Virginia Louise Shaw, 80, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit. She was born June 24, 1929 in Indiana, Penn. to Boyd A. and Zola M. (Kerr) Stuchell. She was married June 26, 1948 to Donald Gordon Shaw Sr. and he survives. Virginia was a graduate of Hillsdale High School and was a former employee of Kiddie Brush and Toy Company. She was a Neighborhood Chatter Club member and a former Camp Fire Girls assistant. Besides her husband D. Gordon Shaw Sr., she is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Daniel) Wheeler of Hillsdale; two sons, Larry Shaw of Jonesville and Ronald (Cheryl) Shaw of Litchfield; six brothers, George (Doris) Stuchell of Jonesville, Ed (Joan) Stuchell of Cambria, Roger (Cindy) Stuchell, Tom (Darlene) Stuchell, Robert (Alice) Stuchell, and Homer (Shirley) Stuchell all of Hillsdale; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, a son Donald Gordon Shaw Jr.; three sisters, Jane, Jean and Roberta; and a brother, Boyd A. Stuchell Jr. Funeral services for Virginia L. Shaw will be 11 a.m. Friday at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset View Cemetery, Jonesville. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to Hospice of Hillsdale County. WAYNE JOHN RUMPTZ SNOVER Wayne John Rumptz, age 80, of Snover, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 with his sister-in-law, two nieces and care giver at his side. He was born on July 18, 1928 in Argyle to the late William and Luella (Osentoski) Rumptz. He married Bonnie Mae Franzel on August 5, 1961 in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2006. Wayne attended a country school. He served in the US Army. He worked for Detroit Edison and for Central Transport Trucking before retiring after 30 years and two months. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle and loved to umpire for the church softball games. He loved trapping, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. Wayne is survived by his sister-in-law, Vicky (Dennis) Walling of Ubly; two nieces, Kelly (Walling) Phillips of Snover, Krystal (Walling) Fetterhoff of Ubly; one nephew, Mike Rumptz of Argyle; one great niece, Alaina June Fetterhoff of Ubly; two great nephews, Jarrett Everett Phillips of Snover and Jonathon Dennis Wayne Fetterhoff of Ubly. He was preceded in death by his brother, Myron Rumptz on April 9, 1998 and his sister, Phyllis Oliver on June 30, 2008 and an infant sister. The funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle with the pastor, Rev. Joseph Griffin, officiating. Wanda Lee Cramer, age 65, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Saginaw Covenant Hospital after a short illness. There will be a memorial service at the Gladwin Free Methodist Church on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Phil Hortop presiding. Wanda lived at the Antler Arms apartment complex in Gladwin since February of 2003. Wanda leaves many friends in Gladwin, and her smile and unique sense of humor will be greatly missed by all. |

Warren Daniel (Beck) Bachtel, age 83, of White Pigeon, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Heartland Health Center in Three Rivers after a short illness. He was born in Mishawaka on Nov. 1, 1925, a son of Merrell and Martha Overholser Bachtel. He had lived in the White Pigeon area since 1971, coming from Millersburg and northern Indiana. He married Lillie Mae (Daisy) Sheperd on May 1, 1954, in New Paris, Ind. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as an auto mechanic at Grants Auto Clinic in White Pigeon and at other auto repair shops. He was also self-employed. He worked as a farmer and truck driver, and he also repaired vintage tractors. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the Constantine American Legion, the Millersburg American Legion, the DAV in Sturgis and the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Association. He was a charter member of the Northeast Indiana Steam and Gas Association. He also was an avid collector of farm toys. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Bachtel of White Pigeon; a daughter, Brenda L. (Gordon) Bickel Jr. of Jones; a son, Daniel Bachtel of White Pigeon; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma “Becky” Mishler of Dunlap, Ind.; a brother, Homer (Mabel) Bachtel of Syracuse, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild and one great-grandchild. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, Mich. |

William F. Kasdorf, age 80, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Friday morning, July3, 2009, at the Sturgis Hospital emergency room. He was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Sturgis, a son of the late John and Lucile (Gross) Kasdorf. Bill was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1946. On June 1, 1947, he married Garnetta Bassett at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. He was a licensed master plumber and most of his working life was with Casselman Inc. Mechanical Contractors in Sturgis. At the time of his retirement in 1990, he held the position of corporate president. For a short time in his early life, he had worked for Holland Furnace in Sturgis. Bill was a dedicated member of the National Rifle Association, Life member of the Michigan Trap shooters Association and B.P.O. Elks #1381, member and past president of the Sturgis Exchange Club and member of the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club, the Amateur Softball Association and was instrumental in establishing the first women’s fast pitch softball team in the Sturgis area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wondering the woods of northern Michigan, trap shooting, in his younger years he was a private pilot and for 15 years he coached women’s fast pitch softball. Many will miss his knack for telling great stories and the wise advice he would offer. Bill had many involvements and interests in his life, but what he valued the very most was his family and many friends. He truly loved life. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Garnetta;, three daughters, Patricia (James) Brown of Kendallville, Ind., Ann Kasdorf of Portage and Tammy (David) Pagels of Sturgis; a son-in-law. Patrick Long of Ypsilanti; six grandchildren, Marci Long of Sturgis, Dustin (Jill) Pagels of Sturgis, Andrew (Miranda) Pagels of Sturgis, Joshua Brown of Ann Arbor, Jessica Brown of Kendallville and Ashley Kasdorf of Portage; three great-grandchildren, Nathan Pagels, Matthew Pagels and Gracie Kay Pagels; a sister, Janet Dillivan of Sturgis; three brothers, Howard (Grace) Kasdorf, John Kasdorf Jr., and Allen (Carol) Kasdorf, all of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and one daughter, Kay Long, preceded him in death. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where a memorial service celebrating the life of William Kasdorf will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Robert Keim of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis will officiate. Burial of the ashes will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those who wish to make a memorial donation in Mr. Kasdorf’s memory consider the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club, 23640 Featherstone Road, Sturgis; Camp Fort Hill c/o: Sturgis Foundation, 310 N.
