Alene Sours, 83 of Montgomery, died Friday, July 10, 2009 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. A service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home with Pastor Harry Squires of the East Gilead Missionary Church officiating. Interment will follow at California Corners Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home. Alene was born Feb. 9, 1926 in Willard, Ohio to Charles and Lona (Barnett) Coffey. She married Harold Sours on Sept. 26, 1943 in Branch County. He preceded her in death in September of 1979. Alene has lived in the Branch County area since 1943. Her family relocated to the Southern Michigan area from Ohio, then settled in Branch County. Mrs. Sours owned and operated an adult foster care out of her home. She had a quick wit and bright smile, these traits stayed with her until she departed. She loved and cared for children all her life. Above all other things, Alene was a mother, grandmother and a great grandmother. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family. In addition to her husband Harold, Alene was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lona Coffey, five brothers, an infant sister and infant grandson Larry Duane Sours. She is survived by her son Carlton (Judith) Sours of Coldwater, her daughters Carolyn (Elroy) VanNuys, Sr., Gloria (Dennis) Sattler, Anita (Kelly) Boothby, all of Montgomery, her sister Lorraine (Robert) Clason of Wooster, Ohio, 17 grandchildren, Kile, Andrea, Diane, Lorie, Lisa, Beth, Kim, Melissa, Shanna, Rebecca, Elroy Jr., Nichole, Curtis, Christopher, Suzanna, Rachael, Kelly Jr., 30 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Arthur H. “Buck” Marquardt, 61, of Jerome, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at his home, following a long bout with cancer. He was born Nov. 10, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to Arthur and Margaret “Maggie” (Henry) Marquardt; she survives in Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Marquardt was married March 9, 1974, to Jutta Zoepke and she survives. Mr. Marquardt was a three-time graduate of the University of Toledo. He served 23 years as a secondary teacher at Madison High School from 1971 to 1995. In 1995 he was accepted into the Foreign Service where he served as a diplomat working in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Beijing before falling ill in 2003. Surviving besides his wife Jutta and mother Maggie, are two children, Lauren Marquardt residing at home and Jeffrey Marquardt of Beijing, China and a sister, Nancy (Jim) May of Vero Beach, Florida. Memorial services for Arthur Marquardt will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11 on the shore at Goose Lake, 9615 Lakeview Drive, Jerome, MI 49249. Barbara J. Demers, 71, of Osseo passed away Wednesday July 8, 2009 at the Mac McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. She was born March 5, 1938 in Gary, Ind. to Martin and Josephine (Koritko) Maluvac. She was married Aug. 17, 1957 to Michael Demers and he survives. Barbara was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale and was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose in Montpelier, Ohio. Besides her husband Michael, she is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Landers of Valparaiso, Ind.; a sister, Jo Anna Russ of Portage, Ind.; a brother, Bill (Diane) Maluvac of Chesterton, Ind.; three grandchildren, Charles Landers Jr., Michael Landers and Amanda Landers; and one great-grandchild, Eva Edinger. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Daniel, in 2008. A mass of Christian burial for Barbara J. Demers will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Father Ioane Sigarara as celebrant. Private family interment will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery. There will be a prayer vigil service 6 p.m. Friday with visitation to follow until 8 p.m., at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Caroline H. Reinke 1918-2009 Caroline H. Reinke, 90, Port Hope, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She was born on September 19, 1918 in Bloomfield Township of the Port Hope area to the late Albert and Theresa (Schave) Pleiness. Caroline and Carl Reinke were united in marriage on September 16, 1936 in Port Hope. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1975. Caroline was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope and enjoyed peeling potatoes with the ladies for the Harvest Home Dinner every year. She was a loving, caring and quiet person who enjoyed her family and flowers. She enjoyed doing word search books and living on the farm all of her life, taking care of chickens and cats. She always remembered all of her family's names and birthdays. She is survived by her children, Willard (Ramona) Reinke, Larry (Kathie) Reinke and Betty (Herb) Leese, all of Port Hope; daughter-in-law, Susan Reinke, Port Hope and son-in-law Gary Schave, Port Hope; sisters, Jean (Stan) Berry, Caro and Lena Pleiness, Port Hope; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; one son, Richard Reinke; one daughter, Joyce Schave; two grandsons, Mark Reinke and Randall Reinke; one great-great-grandson Taylor Fugate; brothers, Alex, Ernest and Erwin Pleiness; sisters, Emma Hartz, Olga Eggert, Esther Zelz and Louise Lampella. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 2, 2009 in St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope with Rev. Greg Eilers officiating. Burial was in Marquardt Cemetery. Doris Jenkins, age 96, formerly of the Wheatland Township area, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2009, at Provincial House in Adrian. She was born on June 22, 1913, in Ogden Township, Lenawee County, Mich., the daughter of Pearl J. and Mary M. (Brugger) Pifer. Doris married Henry Raymond Jenkins on Oct. 10, 1931, in Adrian. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1988. She was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church. Doris was a loving mother and grandmother with a great sense of humor and loved to give treats to her grandchildren. She was a good cook and was always ready to feed a guest; she also liked to bake. Doris is survived by two sons, Richard (Sondra) Jenkins of Hillsdale, Elden (Sandra) Jenkins of Fairfield; one daughter, Jacquelyn (Melvin) Andersen of Elkhorn, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Sharon Jenkins of College Station, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Lee Jenkins; one granddaughter, one great grandson, Keith; her parents, two brothers, Virgil and Forrest Pifer; three sisters, Edith Gothup, Myrtle Graham and Margurite Tilton. Dwayne Ford McNall, 51, of Quincy died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. Dwayne was born Dec. 5, 1957 in Coldwater. He married Reanee Densmore Jan. 13, 1979 in Quincy. A longtime resident of Branch County, he was very active in his faith community and the Lockwood Community Church. He was an employee of the State of Michigan for 28 years. He also served as a reserve officer for the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Coldwater Police Department. EMANUEL 'SAM' CALLUS LEXINGTON Sam Callus, age 81, of Lexington, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 in his home. He was born December 22, 1927 in Malta, son of the late Joe and Paula (Palmier) Callus. He and Noreen Schnell were married on February 18, 1950. She died February 16, 1980. Sam was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army. Gertrude Wireman, 88 of Coldwater, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at her home. A visitation will be held in Coldwater on Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home. The service will be held on Monday, July 13, at 1 p.m. at the Hanson -Neely Funeral Home in Alger, Ohio with visitation held prior to the service beginning at noon. Rev. David Petersheim will officiate. Interment will follow at Preston Cemetery in Alger, Ohio Gertrude was born Oct. 5, 1920 to Vinson and Vina (Wireman) Whitaker in Prestonburg, Kent. She married Ezra Wireman on April 23, 1937 in Lima. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1967. Gertrude spent many years working on the family farm with her husband before going to work for Kmart in Jackson, retiring after 25 years in the mid 1980’s. She was a member of the Moscow Bible Church and had also attended Lockwood Community Church in Coldwater. Mrs. Wireman was very crafty and a skilled seamstress, as she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing, as well as, canning and gardening. She was a hard working and dedicated wife and mother, who was deeply devoted to her family. In addition to her husband, Ezra, Gertrude was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee Wireman in 1992 and one infant daughter, Betty Sue Wireman. She is survived by her daughters Shelvia (Robert) Petrie of Jerome, Mira (Lacerne) Klingler of Coldwater, sister Grace Burk of Napoleon and Marjorie Stambaugh of Sarasota, Fla., 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. Hope E. Kushmaul, 88, of Ransom Township passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at her home. She was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Wright Township the seventh child of Howard F. and Anna L. (Heymann) Williams. Hope was a homemaker and also worked at the Hudson Egg Exchange in Hudson and Coldwater. She graduated from Prattville High School Class of 1938, attended Betzer Community Church and was a member of the Women’s Missionary. She enjoyed her grandchildren, sewing, quilting and refinishing projects, until her later years. She also traveled to Europe with the Heymann family cousins and visited the ancestral village in Germany. Surviving Hope are four children, Faith A. (Wayne) Myers of Port Matilda, Penn., Joyce K. (David) Emery of Rochester Hills, W. Thomas (Barb) Kushmaul of Pittsford, and Joseph D. (Linda) Kushmaul of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Lynn W. (Kathy) Myers of Port Matilda, Penn., Kristina (Paul) Vajda, of Bellville, Ill., Ian A. Myers of Sarasota, Fla., Nicole Emery of Newport, R.I., Andrea (Steve) Torey of Macomb Township, Laura Kushmaul of Hillsdale, Janice (Gene) Sharpe of Pittsford, Bruce Kushmaul of Waldron, Karla Bolenbaugh of Pittsford, Jason (Charisse) Kushmaul of Dewitt and Iraq, and Angie (Greg) Hogle of Clark Lake; 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Adelaide Fellows, Leslie Taylor, Lenore Rhodes, Donald, Arnold and Lowell Williams; spouse, William M. Kushmaul in 1964; a niece; and nephew. Funeral services for Hope will be 11 a.m. Friday at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Kim Repp officiating. Interment will follow in Prattville Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday. She married Doyle Lambson on July 6, 1995. As a housewife and mother, Jackie had worked at Plastifiber for several years and also for the Laydon Company. She loved to play Bingo and Keno. JOAN E. DENNIS CARO Joan E. Dennis, age 72, of Caro, died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Covenant Harrison Hospital in Saginaw. James D. Haney, age 79, of Burr Oak, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Heartland of Crestview Facility in Wyoming. He was born March 1, 1930, in Morgan County, Ky., a son of the late John and Lulu (Haney) Haney. James has resided in Burr Oak with his sister for many years, moving there from Kentucky. He had worked for Victor Screw Products for a few years and was an avid fan of baseball, especially the New York Yankees. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Surviving are two sisters, Earlene Stacey of Morgan County, Ky., and Oleneia Reaper of Burr Oak; a brother, Byron Haney of Fairborn, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ina Hill; and four brothers, Arnold, Norman, Larry and Iron. Graveside service celebrating the life of James D. Jane Isabelle (Collins) Pierson, 85, passed away June 25, 2009, at Odyssey Hospice in Tucson, Ariz., of heart failure. She was born in Sturgis, Mich., on Jan. 24, 1924, the only child of Elba and Jessie Collins.  Jane loved roller skating and camping in northern Michigan, the Upper Peninsula and Drummond Island as a youngster. Jane worked at the Kirsch Company in the payroll department and retired 30 years later as the payroll manager.  She and husband Ward were both active in the First Presbyterian Church, Klinger Lake Country Club and the Elks in Sturgis. After retirement, she and Ward enjoyed golfing trips, traveling to California for Christmas, and to Arizona to enjoy the warm winters. After Ward died, Jane moved to Green Valley, Ariz., in 1997 to live in the sunshine year-round.  She enjoyed attending concerts, plays, luncheons and dinners with her many new friends in Arizona.  She was always ready to visit her Michigan friends when the weather was nice claiming she never missed the snow and ice, just the people. Jane was a member of Valley Presbyterian Church and the Elks Auxiliary.  She was an American Legion Auxiliary member for nearly 65 years and volunteered at the VA Hospital for patient bingo, and she was always willing to help with fundraising for the veterans and packing boxes for the troops.  She volunteered at the Whipple Observatory Visitor’s Center for several years and loved talking to all the people. Jane is survived by daughters Linda Jorn and Nancy Tinkham-Thurm; step-sons Charles and Eric Pierson; grandchildren Alex, Emily, Jordon, Justin, Nathaniel, Rachel and Tiffany; a and sister-in-law, Jean Shears. Funeral services were at Valley Presbyterian Church July 6, 2009.  Grave-side services will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sturgis, Mich., Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.  Memorial tributes may be directed to the charity of your choice. Joan Smith, 58, of Holmesville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on July 5, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic following a fight with various illnesses. She was surrounded by her family who will miss her deeply. Joan was born Oct. 12, 1950 in Tennessee, the fourth of five children born to William and Bea Maynard. She met Neal Smith while a student at Great Lakes Bible College in Michigan and the couple were married on April 15, 1972. Joan worked in various positions at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, Ohio and was a member of Fredericksburg Church of Christ when she passed. Joan enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren; they were the jewel of her eye. She is survived by her husband, and her children, Matthew (Cindy) Smith, Sarah (Eric) Sheely, Andrew (Jodie) Smith, and Amanda Smith (and soon to be son-in-law Joe Ledford); six grandchildren, Shawn, Madelyn, Megan, Autumn, Maekayla, and Corban. She is also survived by a brother Gerald (Janet) Maynard of Reading and two sisters, Mary Ann (Bill) Craig of Camden and Carolyn (Phil) Smith of Georgia. On July 8, 2009, Joseph McCall Croker (Dr. Joe) went to rest with our Lord, after a short battle with cancer. Dr. Joe was born in Glenn's Falls, N.Y. on Sept. 20, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents George Washington Croker and Louise Croker, as well as two grandchildren, Mitchell Robert and Ross Joseph. Dr. Joe is survived by his wife Angie and their four children: daughter, Rosemary Croker; son, Armando Croker and his wife Mariela; daughter, Cindy Bassage and her husband Gordon; and son, Anthony Croker. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brittney, Melanie, Cassandra, Kyle, Brody, Bryce, Jamie and Alexa as well as brothers Michael (Rose), Jim (Kim), Tim (Lynn), Steve and sister Mary Zehner (John). Dr. Joe was a practicing chiropractic physician for 42 years. He received his education from Merrimack College, University of Pittsburgh, Texas Chiropractic College and the Lincoln Chiropractic College. He was the founder of The Institute of Applied Hypnosis. In 1986, he was selected to be included in "Who's Who in International Medicine." His many accomplishments however, far exceeded his life as a physician. He was a published author for his poetry as well as numerous books. Ironically enough, one of his books was on cancer. He was given the difficult task of explaining to his granddaughter Melanie that her mom was battling cancer. The reality of having to deal with this task was the motivation that created "Helping he Child Understand Cancer." For his poetry works, he was included in the "Who's Who in American Poets" and an anthology of his work has been compiled and will be published in the near future. In his original hometown of Reading, he was the school board president and was able to personally hand a diploma to each of his four children upon graduation. He unselfishly gave of his time and served as the athletic physician for all of Hillsdale County School Systems. In his new hometown of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., he was the Chairman of the Beach Chamber of Commerce in 1993. He continued to work closely with the Chamber for many years to follow. Dr. Joe will be deeply missed by his family, many friends, and his patients. He has touched the lives of so many and his legacy will live on. KYLIE R. BULLIS MELVIN Kylie R. Bullis, age 11, of Melvin, went to be with the Lord June 17, 2009. She was born July 2, 1997 in Port Huron to Peter and Shelley Bullis. Don't think of her as gone for she will be with us forever. Kylie touched a lot of hearts and will live there forever. She truly blessed all those who knew her. She was a very special girl who taught us a lot. So when you see a sunrise, think of Ky or when you hear a bird sing or smell some fresh flowers, think of Ky. Lawrence “Larry” C. Osburn, age 76, of Onsted died July 9, 2009 at Arbor Hospice Residence, Ann Arbor. He was born Jan. 3, 1933,  in Raisin Township, Mich., the son of Garland and Geraldine (Orr) Osburn. On October 24, 1959, he married Paula Schober in Ridgeway, Mich., and she survives. Mr. Osburn was a resident of the Tecumseh, Macon, and Onsted areas since birth.  He was a graduate of Tecumseh High School. Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving at NATO Allied Forces Southern Headquarters, Naples, Italy, from 1953-1955. He was a member of the American Legion. Larry had worked at Tecumseh Products and Ford Motor Company in Saline and Rawsonville, but his true calling was farming, which he did for over 50 years. Larry enjoyed gardening and was a classic car lover.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. In addition to his wife, Paula, Larry is survived by three sons, Dr. Scot (Tammy) Osburn of Torrance, Calif., Chris (Jen) Osburn of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Dr. Jon (Tho) Osburn of Bridgman, Mich.; six grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Burnor of Tecumseh, Alice (Leon) Lewis of Britton and Joyce (Gerald) Gentry of Coldwater, Mich.; and three brothers, William of Macon, Robert (Dorothy) of Tipton and Joseph (Gloria) of Manitou Beach. Margaret Kemperman, 63, of Marshall, and formerly of Colon, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009, at the Tendercare of Marshall nursing home in Marshall. Margaret was born Nov. 7, 1945, in Chicago, a daughter to the late Dallas R. and Jean M. (Hill) Kemperman. Margaret lived most of her life in Colon where she had attended Colon Schools. She is survived by one sister, Laurel (Don) Sedlacek of Coldwater; and one brother, John (Loreene) Kemperman of Coldwater; two nephews, Eric Kemperman of Coldwater and Brad (Lisa) Monje of Colon; and one great-nephew Matthew Monje. There will be no visitation or services at this time, cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date. If desired the family ask memorials to made in memory of Margaret to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Lea Britt, age 46, of Adrian, passed away, Friday, July 10, 2009, at her home. She was born January 9, 1963, in Adrian, to Dean and Janice (Sims) Britt. Lea loved reading, shopping, craft shows, Bulldogs and her friends.  Lea is survived by her parents, Don and Jan Roback of Adrian and Dean Britt of Adrian; one brother, Steve Britt and his wife, Rita of Indianapolis, Ind.; and her close friend and companion, Kevin Langmeyer of Deerfield. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a sister, Christi. Marian M. Myers, 88, of Waldron, Michigan passed away, Monday, July 6, 2009, in Hanover, Mich., at the home of her son, Mark. She was born March 19, 1921, in Ogden Center, Mich., the daughter of Leon H. and Helen H. (Wickter) Measures. She married Oakley Myers on Nov. 8, 1941, in Ogden Center and he survives. Marian taught country school in both Hillsdale and Lenawee counties. She attended Lenawee County Normal and Siena Heights College and was a member of the Lauber Hill Reformed Mennonite Church in Burlington. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. Surviving Marian besides her husband, Oakley of Waldron are five sons, Wayne (Faith) Myers of Port Matilda, Pa., Warren (Becky) Myers of Mt. Horeb, Wis., Neil Myers and his partner Mike Adoue of San Diego, Calif., Norman (Ruth) Myers of Shelby, Mich. and Mark Myers and his fiancee Crystal Davis-Starr; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Vivian Turpening. Funeral services for Marian will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11 at the Lauber Hill Reformed Mennonite Church in Burlington. Interment will follow in Lauber Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, Ohio. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Stephen Fillion, pastor of the St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery., Arrangements were handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. |

Michael O. Beach 59, passed away June 14, 2009, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father, Owen Beach, in 1969 and mother, Ruth Beach, in 2007. He is survived by a sister, Robyn (Ken) McClellan, and two nephews Jim and Matt McClellan of Florida. Mike retired from American Express and enjoyed spending time with his Great Dane, Timmy, and gardening in his yard. He was an avid reader and loved staying up all night reading or watching movies. He also enjoyed roller blading with his dog and riding his Harley up into the mountains. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Nile L. Mayer, age 59, of Bronson, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo following a short illness. He was born July 20, 1950, in Kendalville, Ind., son of George and Myra (Cary) Mayer and was a lifelong Bronson area resident. He graduated from Bronson High School in 1968 where he was very active in sports, and excelled in basketball and baseball. He then attended three years of pre-med at Kalamazoo College. Nile Married Beverly Arver, the mother of his children, on Sept. 11, 1971, in Bronson. They divorced in 1992. Nile was active in Gladiola Farming for several years with his family at George Mayer and Sons Gladiola Farm. For the past 12 years, he had worked in construction and was a well known carpenter. Woodworking was his passion and hobby as well as his occupation. He had even made Lincoln log sets and rocking chairs for his family. He also enjoyed arrowhead hunting and dancing, especially country line dancing and ballroom dancing and was well known for his humor. Surviving are his best friend, work partner and the love of his life, Lynn Livingston; his four sons, Jason and Angela Mayer and their son, Braedyn of Bronson; Jarod Mayer of Burr Oak; Jacob Mayer and his sons Alden and Ashton of Bronson; and Joshua of Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother, Myra Mayer of Bronson; his brother Rex and Dianne Mayer of Burr Oak; two sisters, Barbara Phillips of Sturgis and Beverly and Mark Harker of Bronson as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George Mayer. The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009, where memorial donations are suggested to Branch County Habitat for Humanity. The funeral service will be private and will be held Sunday, July 12, 2009. Interment will be in the family lot at Trayer Cemetery. |

Pauline M. Lambright, 93, lifelong Litchfield resident, passed away July 2, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  She was born May 17, 1916, in Litchfield, the daughter of Rex and Olive (Swope) Curey.  Pauline graduated from Litchfield High School and was a bus driver for the Litchfield Community Schools for 22 years.  She was a 70-year member of the Litchfield Rebecca Lodge and was the Litchfield site coordinator for the Hillsdale County Senior Services Center.  Pauline enjoyed camping trips, playing the piano and organ, watching soap operas on television, playing cards and painting in oils. On Dec. 23, 1934, she married Duane Lambright and he preceded her in death in 1987. Survivors include one daughter, Regina (Gordon) Knapp Litchfield; two sons,  Rex (Carol) Lambright Jonesville and Clifford (Judy) Lambright Onsted; one brother, Richard (Pauline) Curey Litchfield; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, two sons (Harvey and Charles Lambright), grandson (Tony Knapp), two brothers (Ransom and Levi Curey), and one sister (Ruth Lent). Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield, with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Litchfield.  Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday. RICHARD L. ROBBINS VALLEY CENTER Richard L. Robbins, age 83, of Valley Center, died July 2, 2009. He was born July 8, 1925 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Stewart and Katharine Robbins. He graduated from Henry Ford Trade School and joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Dick married Billie Joan Duncan on May 17, 1946. Richard was retired from Sheet Metal Workers Local 80 of Southfield. He worked many years for Ensroth Construction. Dick loved to golf and had been a member of the Senior's Golf League in Capac. He also hunted and fished and was a lifetime member of the Brown City VFW and the Peck American Legion. He is survived by three children, Dennis Robbins of Edmonds, WA, Barb (Steve Wetter) Robbins of Brown City and Pamela (Terry) Scott of Arizona City, Arizona; one stepson, Larry Henderson, twenty-three grandchildren and forty-nine great grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one sister, Marie Vega and one daughter-in-law, Michele Robbins.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Joan (1967); one son, Richard Lee Robbins Jr. (2000); one brother, Stewart and one step daughter, Carol Zeiglar. ROBERT ALAN DANIELSON LUDINGTON Robert Alan Danielson, age 54, of Ludington, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 28. Bob was born July 12, 1954 in Ludington, the son of Eugene and Stella (Claypool) Danielson. He grew up in Ludington graduating from Ludington High School with the class of 1973. He was married on Sept. 7, 2008 to Janice Cook and she survives. Bob was employed as a journeyman millwright by Harsco for 33 years and in his free time enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, NASCAR and spending time with his family. He was currently working on restoring a 1978 El Camino. He was a member of the Ludington Boat Club, the Dear Brothers Association, and UAW Local 811. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Janice Cook Danielson of Ludington; his children, Tim (Jessica) Danielson of Ludington and Shelly (Jeff) Samuels of Erlanger, Kentucky; his parents, Eugene and Stella Danielson of Florida; his in-laws, Wes and Bette Cook of Croswell; his sisters, Linda (Doug) Shank of Minnesota, Cindy Noble and Melody (Scott) Berryman, both of Florida; his grandchildren, Jordan, Jayden and Gabe Danielson; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by special friends Dale and Lynn Guenthardt of Ludington. The funeral for Bob Danielson was held at Trinity Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Ryan Cook and the Rev. Richard V. Heck 1918-2009 Richard V. Heck, 90, Cheboygan, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Hospice House in Cheboygan. Richard was born November 8, 1918 in Pigeon, the son of Edward and Bertha (Weiss) Heck. He married Ida Mae Schweitzer on October 24, 1941. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1989. Richard married Louise Baur on November 5, 1994. He served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed in underground construction by Frank J. Knight in Troy for over 40 years, retiring in 1980 as a head foreman. Richard resided in Detroit most of his life, later in Atlanta for 20 years and finally in Cheboygan for the past 10 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, VFW Post #5857 in Onaway, and enjoyed collecting stamps, gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards and woodworking. Richard is survived by his wife, Louise; two daughters, Jean (John) Baumert, Indiana and Nancy Heck, North Carolina; one son, Keith (Cheryl) Heck, Wisconsin; three step-daughters, Dianna Baur, Florida, Marilee (Bernard) Lillie, Cheboygan and Karen (Roger) Richardson, Florida; one step-son, Andrew (Marie) Baur, Michigan; five grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ida Mae; three sisters, Lorene Blome, Fern Heck and Dorothy Stark and three brothers, Norman, Robert and infant brother, Orville. Vernett E. Palmer, age 95, of Three Rivers, Mich., passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.  She was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Sturgis, a daughter of Merton and Edith (Laughlin) Miller. Mrs. Palmer has been a lifelong resident of this area.  She retired from Weyerhauser Corp., formerly Eddy Paper, in 1955.  She was a member of the Three Rivers Eagles Auxiliary #2303, American Legion Hice Shutes #170 Auxiliary, the Grandmothers Club, and D.A.V. Auxiliary.  On Dec. 31, 1936, she married Nolan “Pete” Palmer, who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory a step-son, Donald Palmer, of California; a niece, Nancy Sult, of Three Rivers; a great-niece and nephew, Jennifer and Timothy Sult; and a sister, Marie Mayer. He was born on July 18, 1928 in Argyle to the late William and Luella (Osentoski) Rumptz. He married Bonnie Mae Franzel on August 5, 1961 in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2006. Wayne attended a country school. He served in the US Army. He worked for Detroit Edison and for Central Transport Trucking before retiring after 30 years and two months. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle and loved to umpire for the church softball games. He loved trapping, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. Wayne is survived by his sister-in-law, Vicky (Dennis) Walling of Ubly; two nieces, Kelly (Walling) Phillips of Snover, Krystal (Walling) Fetterhoff of Ubly; one nephew, Mike Rumptz of Argyle; one great niece, Alaina June Fetterhoff of Ubly; two great nephews, Jarrett Everett Phillips of Snover and Jonathon Dennis Wayne Fetterhoff of Ubly. He was preceded in death by his brother, Myron Rumptz on April 9, 1998 and his sister, Phyllis Oliver on June 30, 2008 and an infant sister. The funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle with the pastor, Rev. Joseph Griffin, officiating. Wanda Lee Cramer, age 65, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Saginaw Covenant Hospital after a short illness. There will be a memorial service at the Gladwin Free Methodist Church on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Phil Hortop presiding. Wanda lived at the Antler Arms apartment complex in Gladwin since February of 2003. Wanda leaves many friends in Gladwin, and her smile and unique sense of humor will be greatly missed by all. |

Warren Daniel (Beck) Bachtel, age 83, of White Pigeon, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Heartland Health Center in Three Rivers after a short illness. He was born in Mishawaka on Nov. 1, 1925, a son of Merrell and Martha Overholser Bachtel. He had lived in the White Pigeon area since 1971, coming from Millersburg and northern Indiana. He married Lillie Mae (Daisy) Sheperd on May 1, 1954, in New Paris, Ind. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as an auto mechanic at Grants Auto Clinic in White Pigeon and at other auto repair shops. He was also self-employed. He worked as a farmer and truck driver, and he also repaired vintage tractors. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the Constantine American Legion, the Millersburg American Legion, the DAV in Sturgis and the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Association. He was a charter member of the Northeast Indiana Steam and Gas Association. He also was an avid collector of farm toys. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Bachtel of White Pigeon; a daughter, Brenda L. (Gordon) Bickel Jr. of Jones; a son, Daniel Bachtel of White Pigeon; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma “Becky” Mishler of Dunlap, Ind.; a brother, Homer (Mabel) Bachtel of Syracuse, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild and one great-grandchild. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, Mich. |
