Abraheim Fouad Zeaiter, age 29, of Kalamazoo, passed away away from pulmonary failure Sunday, July 26, 2009. He was born March 10, 1980, in Battle Creek. Surviving are his father and step-mother, Fouad and Andrea Zeaiter of Kalamazoo; mother and step-father, Mitzi and David Lantz; grandparents, William and Esther Lentz and Norman Lantz; brothers and sisters, Ahmed Zeaiter, Betsy Troxel, Tina Holecheck, Daniel Brunner, Paul Schramm III, Danielle Lantz-Johnson, Stacy Lantz-Fourn, Amanda Amen, and Michael Amen; and his many loved nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are grandparents, Betty Lantz, Hussein Zeaiter and Fatima Hamiah-Zeaiter. Funeral services were held Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street Kalamazoo.

Alex Ludwick, Jr., 58, of Fremont, Ind., passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009 at home.  He was born Nov. 27, 1950, in Sturgis, to Alexander and Dolores (Hyska) Ludwick, and graduated from Bronson High School in 1969. He was a self-employed contractor in building construction. Alex belonged to the Bronson Knights of Columbus and enjoyed hunting, telling jokes and woodworking, as well as cooking and entertaining friends and family. He also enjoyed visiting Houghton Lake, mushroom hunting and listening to the “oldies.” On Dec. 13, 1985, he married Jeanne Rodesiler, and she survives, along with two daughters Muffin (Travis Goshorn) Avra and LeAnn Pelmear, both of Coldwater; one son Michael (Stephanie) Avra of Quincy; two sisters Pauline and Shirley; one brother Daniel; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with Pastor Dave Brown officiating.   Visitation is also scheduled for Wednesday from noon until the 3 p.m. service.  Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of the George White Funeral Home.

Allen De Avery Florida Allen De Avery, 86, passed away Sunday (June 28, 2009) at The Oaks of Avon Park, Fla. De was born October 23, 1922 in Flint, to Charles and Emma (Hutchinson) Avery. De was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He helped run and later owned a Dodge/Chrysler/ Plymouth/Imperial dealership in Imlay City from the 1940s through 1979. After selling his business, he taught at the Lapeer County Vo-Tech School in the automotive department. He was active in the Brown City Missionary Church as a board member and Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was an avid fisherman, loved to travel, to read and do jigsaw puzzles and to spend time with family. He was a Godly man of integrity and faithfulness. His life was an example to his family and many others. He will be sorely missed, but is blessed beyond all measure to be in Heaven with our Lord. Arthur L. Schoonover

Arthur L. Schoonover, 77, of Camden, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Laurels of Coldwater. Born March 12, 1932 in Morenci, to Lenneth and Ruth (Keller) Schoonover, he graduated from Morenci High School. Arthur served in the U.S. Army 204th Field Artillery Battalion during the Korean Conflict, earning the Bronze Star. He was also privileged to be an honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Art retired from Simpson Industries/Metaldyne where he was a machinist and union steward. He belonged to the Pioneer Ohio American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he enjoyed rabbit and coon hunting. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers Baseball Team. On June 29, 1957 he married Martha (Keil) and she preceded him in death April 27, 2009. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Steve) Johnson of Coldwater, Sharon (Rocky) Mauer of Three Rivers,  Susan Schoonover of Camden; one sister, Jeannette Cox of Fayette, Ohio; and five grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three sisters. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Camden Missionary Church with Pastor Brian Colby officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Camden Missionary Church or CHC Hospice of Branch County. Arrangements by the George White Funeral Home, Reading.

Arthur Lee Gould, 80, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village Nursing Home after losing his long battle with Cancer and Diabetes. Arthur was born in Burr Oak on Sept. 3, 1928, a son of Ethol and Hazel (Friend) Gould. Arthur was a lifelong resident of Burr Oak and graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1945.During those years he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Life Scout. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served until the end of the Korean Conflict.  He graduated from Naval Justice School were he studied military law, he then served four years as a Legal Yeoman were he attained the mateing of Yeoman First Class. After returning home, he worked 33 years at Harter Corporation in Sturgis as a welder and six years at Ross Labs, where he retired on Dec. 31, 1993.  He enjoyed many years of playing Fast Pitch Softball and gardening. On April 24, 1954, he married Gene Bryant. She preceded him in death. On July 26, 1958, he married Elna VonOlnhausen in Angola, Ind. Surviving are four sons, Rick and Mary (Smith) Gould of Sturgis, Guy Gould of Sturgis, Jeffrey and Teri (Conant) Gould and Steven Gould, all of Burr Oak; two daughters, Shelley (Gould) and Todd Yesh of Sturgis and Jennifer (Gould) Summey of Burr Oak; 10 grandchildren, Cory Gould of Orland, Ind., Hilary Gould of Angola, Gina Gould of Sturgis, Courtney Gould of Sturgis, Michelle Yesh of Sturgis, Jordan Tiedt of Sturgis, Cole and Jade Summey of Burr Oak, and Tanner and Landon Gould of Burr Oak; three great-grandchildren, Sonny and Kate Gould of Sturgis and Harley Gould of Orland; and special friend Ruth Gibb of Colon; a brother, Charles Gould of Centreville; and two half-sisters, Rose Henline of Three Rivers and Daisy Miller of Union Point, Mo. He was preceded death by his parents; his spouse; and a granddaughter, Amber Ann Yesh. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place, and a private Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Thurston Woods Village. Barbara J. Miklovich Lapeer Barbara J. Miklovich, 75, a lifetime Lapeer resident, passed away Monday (July 20, 2009). She was born June 18, 1934, in Lapeer, to Milton and Eleanor (Kerbyson) Hodgson. Mrs. Miklovich was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, Lapeer. She was the Sunday School Superintendent at the church for years. Barb helped with many Zemmer Junior High School events. She enjoyed cake decorating, knitting afghans and dishcloths, as well as country music jamborees. She is survived by her children, Mike (Debbie) Miklovich of Riverside, Calif., and Kathy (Tim) Byzewski of Lake Orion; grandchildren, Marcus, Gabriel, Madison and Tim Jr.; siblings, Evonna Gossage of Lapeer, Milton (Cathy) Hodgson of Lapeer and Robert (Lois) Hodgson of Lapeer. Brent A. Stephenson, 31, of Mendon, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in a motor vehicle accident in Park Township.  Brent was born in Sturgis on April 5, 1978 the son of Mark and Karen (Rice) Stephenson and was a lifetime resident of Mendon.  He graduated from Mendon High School in 1996 where he was active in football and wrestling. He later attended Northwestern Technical Institute in Lima, Ohio. Those who knew Brent, knew that the most important aspects of his life were family and friends, and that he contributed all he could to support them.  He was honorable, respectful, and loving.  Brent had dreams and he lived his dreams.  He possessed a strong work ethic with a hard-working attitude.  Brent was raised on the farm from an early age and thoroughly enjoyed the comradery with his family while living and working on the farm.  He appreciated the highs and the lows the occupation represents.  His remarkable talents and experience made him successful in various facets of the farming industry.  Over the past 10 years he also worked alongside his family at Mammoth Grove Farms. Brent’s personality trait that will always be remembered will be his distinctive laugh, warm hugs, and ambitious zest for life.  The family is comforted at this time in believing that God, our Heavenly Father, and His son, Jesus Christ, give unconditional love to those who call upon His name. Brent is survived by his parents, Mark Stephenson of Mendon and Karen Rice of Schoolcraft;  two sisters, Christina Stephenson (Keith Doucette) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Andrea Mason (Aaron) of Jackson, Mich.;  paternal grandmother, Jean Stephenson of Mendon; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Patricia Rice of Centreville; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leslie Stephenson in 2000.  Cremation has been conducted.  The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon.  Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crossroads Missionary Church with Rev. Carie Micheal Bollen went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2009 in Hillsdale, Mich.  She was born on March 31, 1966 in Hillsdale to David and Sylvia Bollen.  She graduated in 1984 from North Adams High School as class valedictorian.  She continued her education at Michigan State, St. Vincents, and graduated from Bronson Methodist College as a registered nurse.  She has worked for several years at Coldwater Community Health Center. She is survived by her son Brock Michael Bollen of Hillsdale; her parents, Sylvia (Terry) Jewell of Hillsdale and David (Donna) Bollen of Jupiter, Fla.; three brothers, David, Joe and Kimo of Jupiter, Fla.; three sisters, Connie, Kelly and Dawn of Jupiter, Fla. and her grandmother, Muriel Peiffer of Jonesville. Carie was an active member of Hillsdale City Church. She loved her family and was always trying to help encourage other people. A funeral service to honor the life of Carie Micheal Bollen will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Bob Finegan officiating. Interment will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Hillsdale. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1975. Donna was a member of New Hope Tabernacle Church in Adrian and the Hudson Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzle books and embroidery.  Surviving Donna are four children, Laura (Sonny) Uphold of Adrian, Glen (Karen) Brown of Harrison, Janet (Harold) Shadbolt of Fayette, Ohio, and Edna (Thomas) Mahan of Dubuque, Iowa; daughter-in-law Gwen Brown of Harrison; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and one sister, Tillie Harris of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Vernon Brown, Jr.; one daughter, Rose Vandenberg; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers; and eight sisters. Dr. William J. McCoy 1917-2009 Dr. William J. McCoy, D.V.M., 92, Bad Axe and formerly of Minden City, passed away Sunday morning, July 12, 2009 at his daughter's residence near Lakeport. He was born on May 7, 1917 in Minden City to the late Dr. John and Alma (Brodbeck) McCoy. William was united in marriage to Olive Schock on December 30, 1939 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Saginaw. Olive taught school for many years at various area schools. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2002. William was born in Minden City and attended school there until the end of his sophomore year. He transferred to Harbor Beach High School and graduated with the class of 1935. In 1942 he graduated from Michigan State College's School of Veterinary Medicine. After receiving his D.V.M. degree, Bill joined his father's large animal veterinary practice in the Minden City area. He practiced there until he joined the Michigan Department of Agriculture in 1959. Bill retired from the Michigan Department of Agriculture after 28 years. Throughout his lifetime, William had a profound appreciation of nature's beauty and she richly rewarded him for his interest. For many years, he was a parishioner at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Ruth before becoming a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Bill will be very much missed by those who love him. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Dr. Alister) MacKenzie, Lakeport, Karen (Gerry) Resmer, Midland, Donald (Michele) McCoy, Richard (Patricia) McCoy; nine special grandchildren, Matthew, Sarajane, Emily Ann, Donald, Kimberly, Justin, Dr. S. James, Kathryn and William; two sisters, Helen Bennett, Applegate and Mary Sweigert, Detroit; four brothers, Joseph (Gloria) McCoy, Minden City, Patrick (Sarah) McCoy, Port Huron, Frank (Lorraine) McCoy, Marlette and Richard (Bertha) McCoy, Detroit. William was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Alma; wife, Olive; two sons, William J. McCoy Jr. and James P. She was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Frontier, to W.J. and Nora (Hammond) Westfall. She was first married Jan. 1, 1943, to Earl Lockwood and he preceded her in death in 1996. She was married Oct. 17, 1999, to W. Robert Sowle and he survives. Eva Mae was the owner and operator of Mode-O-Day Dress Shop in Hillsdale. She was a member of the Baw Beese Chiefs and a resident of this area all her life. Surviving besides her husband Robert are two children, Judy Ann (Charles) Alspaugh of Reading and William Earl (Sharon) Lockwood of Nashua, New Hampshire; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Earl, a daughter Vickie Lynn, two sisters Maleta Turner and Morine Gemmill, and a brother Edward Westfall. Funeral services for Eva Mae Sowle will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 24 at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. On March 13, 1954, he was married to Donna Thibodeau and she survives. Jack was employed at Tecumseh Products for 42 years, retiring in 1995. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh. Jack enjoyed his Paso Fino horses, traveling, and loved NASCAR. In addition to his wife, Donna, Jack is survived by one son, Mark (Lisa) Carr of Tecumseh; one daughter, Denise Stevens of Adrian; two brothers, Dan Carr of Camden and Warren Carr of Adrian; six grandchildren, Garrett Stevens, Megan and P.K. Kolby and Nathan, Wyatt, and Collin Carr and one great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Pratt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 23 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Jim was a proud veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II on the USS Puget Sound. James Edward Robertson of Blissfield, Mich., passed away on July 20, 2009, at the age of 84. He was born on June 1, 1925, in Ogden Township to Isaiah Ray and Frances (Seeley) Robertson. Jim was a draftsman at Kewaunee Scientific Corporation until he retired after 38 years.  He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Blissfield. He was an elder on the church board and served as its treasurer. He also proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Jim is survived by his wife, Yvonne, who he married on Dec. 20, 1947. They were very happily married for over 61 years. He is also survived by two children, Keith (Colleen) Robertson of Indianapolis and Connie Purkey of Tecumseh; a brother, Richard Robertson of Adrian; four grandchildren; five nieces; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Robertson of Adrian; a sister-in-law; his parents; and a niece.         A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert Bidwell officiating. There will be a luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately afterwards. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield at a later date. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church of Blissfield.

He was a former employee of Dott Manufacturing and enjoyed fishing, camping and watching baseball and softball. He was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach. Judith was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Chicago, a daughter to the late John and Helen (Butrimas) Pokorny. She had lived most of her life in Colon, graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1957. On Nov. 12, 1971,  she married Warren Ash in Colon. Judith had worked for the former Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 13 years, and later she worked several years for the Colmer Company in Colon retiring in 2002. Judith enjoyed word search puzzles, collecting owls and dolls and especially enjoyed time spent with her family. She is survived by her husband, Warren Ash of Colon; three sons, John (Lori) Ash of Sturgis, Mike (Jobi) Ash of Angola, Ind., and Brian (Debi) Ash of Colon; eight grandchildren, Crystal, Anthony, Amanda, Whitney, Kendall, Landon, Connor, and Briana; great-grandchildren Daison and Madison; two sisters, Betty (Greg) Griffin of Anaheim, Calif., and Delores (Richard) Ware of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Pokorny. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Larry also loved to travel, spend time with his friends and family and was an avid U-M sports fan. Surviving are his sons Jared Sweet of Kalamazoo, Matt Sweet of Three Rivers and their mother Dawn Boughton of Three Rivers; and brothers John Sweet of Three Rivers and Paul Arnold of Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Sweet, and mother, Sandra Sweet Arnold. Cremation has taken place. Formerly a member of the Fisher Hill Methodist Church, he attended the North Reading Baptist Church where he worked and supplied materials for their Mission Circle. He also volunteered at Crossroads Farm Youth Ministry. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and photography. Survivors include his wife, Emily (Rives) Hard, whom he married May 20, 1989; one step-son, Daniel D’Alessandro of Jackson; two sisters, Donna Graham of Louisiana, Joyce (Clem) McLain of Jonesville; one brother, Francis (Leona) Hard of Coldwater; one brother-in-law, Lowell Thomas; one grandson, Michael Carlson; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Carolyn Thomas and Lena Belle Hard; and two stepdaughters, Faith D’Alessandro and Sheryl Schmid. Lou Wanda (Guza) Armstead, 56, of Sheridan Township, died Friday Aug. 29, 2008 in Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe., She was born Feb. 21, 1952 in Cass City, daughter of William and Wanda (Billot) Kipp., She married Leon F. Guza in 1970 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Parisville. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1999., She is a graduate of Sandusky High School. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. She enjoyed cats, crafts, gardening, needle work, and visiting with family and friends., Lou Wanda is survived by two daughters, Jane Ann (David) Sadro of Ubly, and Theresa (Dan) Hill of Bad Axe; two sons, Eugene Guza of Bad Axe, and Leon Guza Jr. and Karan of Bad Axe; and nine grandchildren, Justin and Daniel Sadro, Sarah and Kelsey Hill, Sloan, Kelsie and Darian Gross, and Rayne and Sommer Guza. Lou Wanda also is survived by her parents, William and Wanda Kipp of Snover; one brother, Joseph (Sandy) Kipp of Marlette; and one sister, Betty (Dennis) Mausolf-Scharrer of Ruth., Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 3, 2008 in the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, with the Rev. M. Carlyle Neckers, age 96, of Holland, Michigan passed away July 24, 2009, after a very brief illness. Carlyle was born in Clymer, New York on August 18, 1912. His loving wife of 60 years, Doris Van Lente Neckers, his brother James and an infant great grandson Stuart VanderLeek preceded him in death. He is survived by his three sons: Dr. Douglas C. Neckers and Suzanne of Perrysburg, Ohio; Bruce and Susie Neckers and Craig and Joan Neckers of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is also survived by 8 grand children: Pamela Neckers of Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Andrew Neckers and his fiance Courtney Werner of Columbus, Ohio; Matthew and Erin Neckers of Eden, Vermont, Melissa  and Scott VanderLeek of Grand Rapids Michigan, Allison Neckers of Denver, Colorado; Joel and Kimberly Neckers of Denver Colorado; Todd Neckers and Scott Neckers, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, his great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Benjamin VanderLeek and Owen Neckers and his sister-in-law Amy Drenthe of Chicago. Carlyle was a proud graduate and extremely loyal supporter of Hope College. Since 1992 he rarely missed any Hope event, including nearly every home men and women’s basketball games and most musical events. He was music major at Hope and was the organist and choral director for numerous civic and church groups in the Western New York area. He was the former owner of the Clymer Department Store and other businesses and later was a choral music teacher in the Sherman and Ripley New York schools. In his retirement years he spent his summers at Chautauqua Institution where he sang in the choir. He also logged more than 4000 hours as a volunteer in the finance office of Holland Hospital before his final “retirement” in June of this year. He was also a life long member of the Abbe Reformed Church of Clymer, New York. The family wishes to add special thanks to his friends and the dedicated and loving staff at Freedom Village in Holland, to his special friends at Third Reformed Church in Holland, to his co-workers at Holland Hospital and to Spectrum Hospice. A celebration of Carlyle’s life will be 1 pm Friday at the Third Reformed Church of Holland, 111 West 13th Street with the Rev. Kent Fry officiating.  Burial will be in the Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Olivia was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Shrine Church in the Irish Hills, Durkee-Seager Post #550 American Legion Women Auxiliary of Onsted and the Onsted Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting hats and lap blankets for soldiers, playing cards, dancing and playing chimes at the Onsted Senior Center. Surviving Olivia are four children, Cindy Yost of Brownstown Township, Mickey (Edward) Rawson of Onsted, Jacqueline (Jerry) Otto of Whitmore Lake and Joe (Liz) Waliga, Jr., of Ypsilanti; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe (Tina) DeJulian of Sharpsville; one sister, Ann Dragonne of Lincoln Park; and several other family members and friends. They operated a filling station near Parkville for several years.  Pauline was a former member of the Parkville Grange, the Eagles Auxiliary in Three Rivers, the Mendon Golden-Agers, and the Eucre Club at the American Legion. She especially loved square dancing, traveling, and outdoor activities. Pauline is survived by daughters, Linda Collins of Three Rivers, Donna Michalski (David) of Coldwater, and Patsy Gould (Ken) of Winchester, Tenn.; son Richard Salisbury of Three Rivers; 15 grandchildren;  26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister Donna Hiemstra of Tuscon, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Russell in 1985; and by brothers Lee and Bill Carkenord. Richard was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Lincoln Park, Mich., the son of Elius and Gizella (Kovatch) Vallie. He was a graduate of Britton High School, Class of 1947. On July 9, 1947, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the General Headquarters, Tokyo, Japan, during the Occupation as a G2. On June 24, 1950, he married Anna F. Henry in Adrian, Mich. She survives. He worked as a self-employed bricklayer for 60 years.  Richard was a member of the Britton American Legion Glen H. Daykin Post #155 and the 40 & 8 Voiture Local #997. He was also a member of the Ridgeway Township Fire and Rescue Department for 30 years. Rudy was known for his love of hunting, fireworks, poker playing, dancing, and family get togethers. IRONWOOD, Mich. -- Robert A. "Bob" Kostopolus, 82, of 494 N. Curry St., Ironwood, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, in Ironwood, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness.


 


 

Robert D. Steinman 1924-2009 Robert Donald Steinman, 85, Port Austin, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009. He was born on April 20, 1924 in Caseville, son of late Clarence and Jessie (Beadle) Steinman. Bob was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother and friend. Bob retired from Salvo Tool & Dye, where he was employed for 38 years. He was a member of the Port Austin Fire Department for 17 years and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Detroit Tigers and playing euchre. He is survived by his children, Robert (Diana) Steinman, Bath, Janis (Daniel) Horetski, Tucson, Ariz., William (Linda) Steinman, Bath, David (Lisa) Steinman, Ferndale, Brian (Stacey) Steinman, Howell and Brenda (Dale) Jimpkoski, Port Austin; grandchildren, Leigh (Garrett) Ryan, Daniel Horetski, Angela Valenzuela, Matthew Horetski, Jason (Helen) Horetski, Michael Horetski, Jeffrey (Katie) Steinman, Ryan Steinman, Stacy Steinman, Kelly Steinman, Katie Jimpkoski, Kyle Jimpkoski, David Jimpkoski, Sydney Ostafin and Alec Ostafin; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Jane E. Steinman, Caseville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Irene Mae (Swackhamer) Steinman; his brothers, William, Hazen, Edwin, Albertus, Edward and Clarence and his sister, Betty A. Steinman. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church. Arrangements were handled by the Knoblock Funeral Home, Kinde.

Roger Stewart Bemis, 75, of Grants Pass, Ore., died Friday July 17, 2009 at his home. He was born March 17, 1934, in Hillsdale, and graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1952. He married Mary Hubacker on April 9, 1955 in Kalamazoo. She preceded him in death in 1992. They moved from Illinois to San Jose, Calif. in 1976. He worked for Chrysler Corp. for 21 years until his retirement in 1990, at which time they moved to Ashland, Ore. He moved to Grants Pass in 1992. He is survived by sons, Roger Bemis II of Beaumont, Texas and Steven Bemis of Selma, Ore.; daughter, Deborah Bemis of San Jose; sister, Phyllis Sawyer of Jonesville and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Ashland. Shirley enjoyed gardening and being on the computer. He married Joyce Katz on April 23, 1954 in Ceresco. Thor worked for American Woodcraft as a cabinet maker for 33 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the VFW #5319 in Athens and the American Legion #298 in Battle Creek. He is survived by his daughter Christine Prince of Battle Creek; and sons Mark Anderson of Coldwater and Kim Anderson of Union City. Thor was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, on Feb. 1, 2008. There is no visitation scheduled. A memorial service for Thor and Joyce Anderson will take place at Ft. Verna I. (Furgason) Cramer Rowe, age 87, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Grand Court in Adrian. Born on April 17, 1922, in Tecumseh, to Bernard and Ila (Matthews) Furgason, she graduated from Tecumseh High School. She married Ivan E. Cramer of Hudson on April 24, 1941. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1973. She is survived by sons, Wellington (Nancy) Cramer of Osseo, Lionel (Sue) Cramer of Pittsford; six grandchildren, Lisa (Craig) Taylor, Michael (Sonya) Cramer, Lori (Ty) Ward, Joseph (Melissa ) Cramer, Bradley Cramer and Kimberley Cramer; 11 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew Taylor, Brandon, Joshua and Emilee Cramer, Lydia, Mariah and Leah Ward, and Joseph, Joshua and Jaden Cramer; five sisters, Vivian Woods, Mary Cox, Josephine Ross, Shirley Schadewald and Ruth Greenman; and one brother, John Furgason. On Sept. 16, 1986, she married Walter Rowe of Clinton. He survives, as do 12 step-children, many step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Harold, Gordon, Glenn, Gaylon and Earnest. Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be conducted by Eagle Funeral Home, Hudson at the Leonardson Cemetery, Pittsford at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev.
