Born on July 13, 1920 to Arthur and Myrtle (Hazzard) Wakeman in Bangor, MI, Arliss Ruth Benham died on July 13, 2009, her 89th birthday, at the Kairos Dwelling Home in Kalamazoo.  She graduated from Bangor High School, as class valedictorian, and also graduated from the North Central Bible Institute of Minneapolis, Minn. In 1980, at 70 years of age, she retired from the Kellogg Company as Consultant of Consumer Affairs and was at that time, the company's oldest working employee. An organist/pianist for over 60 years, she played for a number of churches including the First Baptist Churches in Minot, N.D., Coldwater, and Battle Creek. She also played for the Battle Creek Bible Church. On June 2006, at the age of 86, she retired as the pipe organist for St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Battle Creek. Arliss Benham loved God, her family, and her church and was dedicated to serving God through her gift of music.  She is survived by one daughter, Diann (James) Danhoff, Gull Lake and one son, Dr. John (Merridee) Benham, Jr., Blaine, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Emily Fairbanks, Joshua Sattler, Dr. Stephen (Kris) Benham, Melody (Scott) Ivester, Dr. Todd (Tirza) Benham, PJ (Lisa) Danhoff, Jayne (Erik) Sabaitis; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Thomas, Grandbury, Texas; several nieces and nephews, and two special friends, Ella and Jake.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Roselyn Crandall, South Haven  At the request of family members, friends may call Thursday from 3-8 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Arthur H. “Buck” Marquardt, 61, of Jerome, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at his home, following a long bout with cancer. He was born Nov. 10, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to Arthur and Margaret “Maggie” (Henry) Marquardt; she survives in Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Marquardt was married March 9, 1974, to Jutta Zoepke and she survives. Mr. Marquardt was a three-time graduate of the University of Toledo. He served 23 years as a secondary teacher at Madison High School from 1971 to 1995. In 1995 he was accepted into the Foreign Service where he served as a diplomat working in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Beijing before falling ill in 2003. Surviving besides his wife Jutta and mother Maggie, are two children, Lauren Marquardt residing at home and Jeffrey Marquardt of Beijing, China and a sister, Nancy (Jim) May of Vero Beach, Florida. Memorial services for Arthur Marquardt will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11 on the shore at Goose Lake, 9615 Lakeview Drive, Jerome, MI 49249. Barbara J. Demers, 71, of Osseo passed away Wednesday July 8, 2009 at the Mac McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. She was born March 5, 1938 in Gary, Ind. to Martin and Josephine (Koritko) Maluvac. She was married Aug. 17, 1957 to Michael Demers and he survives. Barbara was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale and was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose in Montpelier, Ohio. Besides her husband Michael, she is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Landers of Valparaiso, Ind.; a sister, Jo Anna Russ of Portage, Ind.; a brother, Bill (Diane) Maluvac of Chesterton, Ind.; three grandchildren, Charles Landers Jr., Michael Landers and Amanda Landers; and one great-grandchild, Eva Edinger. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Daniel, in 2008. A mass of Christian burial for Barbara J. Demers will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Father Ioane Sigarara as celebrant. Private family interment will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery. There will be a prayer vigil service 6 p.m. Friday with visitation to follow until 8 p.m., at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Caroline Grumbache Ferndale It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Caroline Grumbache on July 7, 2009 at the age of 83. She was born to Coretta Boufford and George Strausbaugh in Detroit. She married Ernest (Bud) Grumbache in 1942 and they enjoyed 53 years together. First making their home in Detroit, after WWII they soon moved to Metamora to raise their family "in the country". Following retirement, they move to the sunshine of Eustis, Fla., where Bud predeceased Caroline in 1995. Caroline spent the last six years of her life enjoying living with her daughter, Marcie, in Ferndale, Mich. Charles “Chuck” Schwartz, age 51, of Adrian passed away unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, July 12, 2009. He was born June 12, 1958, in Adrian, the oldest son of Robert and Mary (Burkert) Schwartz. Chuck graduated from Adrian High School with the class of 1976. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena Heights University. On Aug. 17, 1985, Chuck married Sheila Dwyer at the Holy Rosary Chapel. Chuck was the Manufacturing Manager of the Tecumseh Division of Tecumseh Products from 1985 to 2007. Since 2007, he worked as the Chief Operations Officer for Gary Gray Institute.  Chuck was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1665, Kiwanis and the Lenawee Country Club. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church as well as Ogden Church. Most precious to Chuck was time spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and was the assistant coach of the girl’s softball team at Lenawee Christian School. He also coached at Girls of Summer and Hot Rocks camps. In addition to his wife, Sheila, Chuck is survived by a daughter, Michelle; a son, Daniel; his mother, Mary; and his siblings, Cecelia Schwartz, Marian (Wayland) Echelbarger, Barbara (Richie) Gallatin, Ann (Robert) Love, James (Pamela) Schwartz and Matthew (Laura) Schwartz, all of Adrian. Also surviving are many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Schwartz; father-in-law, Charles Dwyer; and an uncle, Charles Bay Kenny. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Hudgins presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Adrian. She was born on Nov. 9, 1962, in Coldwater, the daughter of James E. and Sally A. (Arklie) Uhrig. On June 27, 1981, in Quincy, she was united in marriage to Curtis W. Williams. Cynthia was a graduate of the Coldwater High School and attended college for a while. She worked for First Community Bank as an AVP of Purchasing and Internal Auditor. Cynthia was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sedalia. She volunteers for the American Cancer Society, where she was Chairperson for Relay for Life, as well as being on the Regional Council and Heroes of Hope. Survivors include her husband, Curtis W. Williams; two daughters and husbands, Courtney P. Rumans and Bryan M. and Christine M. Morton and Johnathan D. all of Knob Noster; her parents, James E. and Sally A. Uhrig of Coldwater; parents-in-laws, Carl O. and Janet M. Williams of Papillion, Neb.; and one brother, Michael Uhrig of Grove City, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sedalia. Pastor Ken Tatkenhorst will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Knob Noster Cemetery. Pallbearers are Derek Morton, Bryan Rumans, Calvin Williams, Craig Williams, Cameron Williams, Michael Uhrig, Bryant Massengale and Aaron Ringen.  Honorary pallbearer will be Steve Quick. Dale A. Riedel 1943-2009 Dale A. Riedel, 66, Yale and formerly of Delaware Township, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Medilodge of Yale. He was born April 16, 1943 in Forestville to the late Max and Helen B. (Bieth) Riedel. He was a 1960 graduate of Harbor Beach High School. He worked at Michigan Peat Moss Company in Minden City and farmed with his father in Delaware Township. Dale is survived by three sisters, Emma Hanselman, Fort Gratiot, Ilene (Sherman) Miller, Athens and Joyce (Michael) Wrubel, Woodland; four brothers, Robert (Shirley) Riedel, Jeddo, Richard (Terry) Riedel, Trenton, Warren (Diane) Riedel, Harbor Beach and Larry (Lana) Riedel, Harbor Beach; several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother on June 11, 1964 and his father in October of 1995. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church, Forestville with Rev. Paul Bala officiating. Burial was in the EastDelaware Township Cemetery. She was born June 22, 1913, in Ogden Township, Lenawee County, the daughter of Pearl J. and Mary M. (Brugger) Pifer. Doris married Henry Raymond Jenkins on Oct. 10, 1931, in Adrian. He preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1988. She was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church. Doris was a loving mother and grandmother with a great sense of humor and loved to give treats to her grandchildren. She was a good cook and was always ready to feed a guest; she also liked to bake. Doris is survived by two sons, Richard (Sondra) Jenkins of Hillsdale, Elden (Sandra) Jenkins of Fairfield; one daughter, Jacquelyn (Melvin) Andersen of Elkhorn, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Sharon Jenkins of College Station, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Lee Jenkins; one granddaughter; one great-grandson, Keith; her parents; two brothers, Virgil and Forrest Pifer and three sisters, Edith Gothup, Myrtle Graham, and Margurite Tilton. Doris M. Brown 1929-2009 Doris Mae Brown, 80, Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at her daughter's home, with her family by her side, while under hospice care. She was born on May 19, 1929 to the late Earl and Beatrice (Ganley) Dickinson. Doris married Donald Brown on January 23, 1954 in San Francisco, Calif. Doris was co-owner of Don's Water Service, Harbor Beach. She loved to read her Bible and other books as well as tend to her flowers, play cards and do jigsaw puzzles. She is survived by her husband, Donald, Harbor Beach; son, Don, Grand Rapids; two daughters, Susan (James) Scott, Harbor Beach and Amy Brown, Portage; one sister-in-law, Florence Dickinson and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Tim Brown and three brothers, David, Douglas and Larry Dickinson. Cremation has taken place. There will be a grave side service at a later date. She married Steven F. York on August 27, 1949 in Dearborn. Mrs. York formerly enjoyed camping and loved caring for her family. She is survived by her husband, Steven F. Dorothy Jager Imlay City Dorothy Jager, 101, of Imlay City, passed away Sunday (July 12, 2009) at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Dorothy Dekema was born January 12, 1908, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Frank and Anna Dekema. She grew up in Kalamazoo. She spent most of her life in Imlay City. She married Fred Jager on May 8, 1926 in Kalamazoo. Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by her sons, Lewis Jager of Imlay City and Donald (Ozzie) Jager of Grand Rapids; daughters, Polly (Bob) Hatfield of California and Alice Marshall of Tennessee; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Rich (Dorothy) Dekema of Kalamazoo. Edith Conley, age 70, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009, at Sturgis Hospital. She was born Aug. 28, 1938, in Knott County, Ky., a daughter to Taulby and Delana Roberta (Shepard) Handshoe and has been a resident here since 1958, moving from Jackson, Mich. On March 18, 1953, in Kentucky, she married Clyde Conley. He preceded her in death Dec. 17, 2005. Edith had worked at Glabmin Paramount Furniture Co. in Sturgis and retired from Coachmen R.V. in Middlebury, Ind. She enjoyed watching TV and was fond of game shows such as Jeopardy and also mysteries and she so enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are four daughters, Judy (William) Wolf of Sturgis, Loreane (Cliff) Ditmer of Bristol, Ind.,  Shirley Russell of Sturgis, and Lilly (Thomas) Mines of Nunica, Mich.; one son, Carlos‚ “Bud” Conley and wife, Pam, of Burr Oak; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her mother, Delana Roberta Terry of Kendallville, Ind.; one sister, Maggie Grow; and one brother, Oscar Handshoe, both of Kendallville, Ind. She was born on January 6, 1913 in Ruth to the late William and Theresa (Guitar) Volmering. She married Clement T. Geiger on May 22, 1934 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1984. Elizabeth was a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School. Prior to her marriage she worked in Detroit. Elizabeth and her husband resided on their farm in Sherman Township until they retired to Forestville in 1977. She was a dedicated wife and mother, raising a family of seven sons and one daughter. She was a parishioner of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville, where she was a member and former president of the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed her garden and playing cards. She is survived by seven sons, Gerald (Shirley) Geiger, Palms, Richard (Norma) Geiger, Springfield, Va., Herbert (Jean) Geiger, Bay City, Donald (Margaret) Geiger, Davison, Kenneth (Carolyn) Geiger, Hernando, Fla., Neil (Carolyn) Geiger, Davison and David (Hazel) Geiger, South Riding, Va.; one daughter, Ruth Ann (Joseph) Kucharczyk, Waxahachie, Texas; 31 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Geiger, Margaret Volmering and Cecelia Siemen. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, William (Anna) Volmering, Vincent (Alvina) Volmering, Alexander (Theresa) Volmering, Cornelius (Evelyn) Volmering, Irene (Robert) Holdwick, Mary (Bernard) Gentner, Aloysius Volmering and infant twins, John and Agatha; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy (Marie) Geiger, Joseph Siemen, Bernard Geiger, Leona (Elmer) Hessling and Shirley (Ernest) Reinke. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville. Rev. Paul Bala, pastor officiated. Burial took place in the church cemetery. She married Roy McElvaney on Sept. 10, 1983 in Marine City. Emily was a secretary for General Electric corporate offices in East Cleveland for many years. She was also very involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for many years, receiving Big Sister of the Year in the Michigan Area. After relocating to the Branch County area in 1984, she was secretary for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Branch County for a few years. She was a member of the East Gilead Missionary Church and a very talented musician. She played the bass guitar for the church band, played the piano and sang in the church choir, performing at many area nursing homes. She also played the bass fiddle in high school. Emily will always be remembered as a very kind, loving and generous person. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew John David Watkins. In addition to her husband Roy, Emily is survived by her son William (Kathleen) Lefler of Kaukauna, Wisc., her daughter Mary Jane Lefler of Willouhby, Ohio, her stepchildren Martin (Christine) McElvaney, Dale (Cheryl) McElvaney all of Monroe, Penny (Ted) Dwornik of Toledo, Ohio, Angela (David) Eagle of Monroe, her brothers Kenneth G. She was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Burr Oak Twp., Mich.,  a daughter to the late Annis and Erma Ruth (Johnson) Garn. Esther had been a lifelong resident of Burr Oak graduating from the Needham country school and working at Douglas Mfg. in Bronson and at National Carbon Coated Company in Sturgis. On Aug. 27, 1938, in Sturgis, Mich., she married John Pierucki.  He preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Joseph County Farm Bureau. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon (Phillip) Mitchell and Gatha Pierucki, both of Burr Oak; one son, Mark Pierucki of Burr Oak; three grandchildren, Todd (Julie) Mitchell, Steven (Tina) Mitchell, and Jenny Pierucki; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Erma Beckwith-Sherman; and infant son, Annis. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4-8 p.m. today, at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes - Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091. Gertrude Wireman, 88, of Coldwater, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at her home. Gertrude was born Oct. 5, 1920 to Vinson and Vina (Wireman) Whitaker in Prestonburg, Ky. She married Ezra Wireman on April 23, 1937 in Lima. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1967. Gertrude spent many years working on the family farm with her husband before going to work for K-mart in Jackson, retiring after 25 years in the mid 1980s. She was a member of the Moscow Bible Church and had also attended Lockwood Community Church in Coldwater. Mrs. Wireman was a very crafty and a skilled seamstress, as she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing, as well as, canning and gardening. She was a hard working and dedicated wife and mother, who was deeply devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughters, Shelvia (Robert) Petrie of Jerome, Mira (Lacerne) Klingler of Coldwater; sisters, Grace Burk of Napoleon and Marjorie Stambaugh of Sarasota, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee Wireman in 1992 and one infant daughter, Betty Sue Wireman. A visitation will be held from 4 -7 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. The service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger, Ohio with visitation held prior to the service beginning at noon. The Rev. David Petersheim will officiate. Harold E. Faust, Jr., age 73, of Adrian died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1936, in Rome Township to Harold E. and Alice Marguerite (Baughey) Faust, Sr. He attended the Rome Center School and graduated from Onsted High School, Class of 1954.  He attended Ferris Institute, graduating June 12, 1960. On Aug. 24, 1963, he married Pamela Hinkle in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. Harold had been employed by GTE for 34 years, retiring in 1998. He also farmed all of his life. He served in the National Guard and was called up to active duty in the U.S. Army for six months. Harold was a member of St. Mary on the Lake Catholic Church where he served as an usher and greeter, and earned the reputation of “Official Photographer.” He was a member of the Adrian Amateur Radio Club-WA8QPS, where he served as past president; the Lenawee PC Users Group, and served on the Rome Township Board of Review.  In addition to his wife, Pamela, he is survived by a son, David (Diane) Faust of Onsted; a daughter, Sara (Mike) Melcher of Bowling Green, Ohio; a sister, Alice Marilyn Kuschinsky of Troy, Mich.; three grandchildren, Bryan, Jarred and Meghan Melcher; and two stepgrandchildren, Hailey and Curtis Schaldach. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Asenath, at birth on Feb. 15, 1951; and his father on Oct. 10, 1990. The Funeral Liturgy for Harold will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary on the Lake Catholic Church, Manitou Beach. Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian. Henry “Hank” Ehlinger, Jr., age 85, of Addison, loving husband and father, has parted this earth to be in heaven with the angels and will be awaiting his family and friends patiently to reunite with him. Hank was born on Sept. 28, 1923, in Morenci, Mich., to Henry J. and Florence L. (Jackson) Ehlinger. He married Louise M. Halliwill on Jan. 18, 1947, in Lansing, Mich., and she survives. Hank lived all his life in Addison. He graduated from Addison High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army, where he then worked in the Dental School Lab during the war. Hank was employed at Tecumseh Products for 38 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, camping, canoeing, archery, and he loved all his kids. He was a former member of the Addison United Church. Surviving besides his wife, Louise, are three daughters, Martha (Dr. Richard) Burke of Addison, Roxanne (Robert) Marks of Palmetto, Fla., Vera Susie (Mark) Clark of Roswell, Ga.; four grandchildren, Amanda Sipe of Crossville, Tenn., Abbie Armstrong of Rives Junction, Joel Riley of Crossville, Tenn., Jeff Burke of Addison; six great-grandchildren which he loved all of them, with the twinkle of his eye being 3-year-old Allison, who saw him very often; one brother, Joe (Marty) Ehlinger of Addison; one sister, Elaine Forrester of Tecumseh; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Friberg served his country in the United States Army from 1950 through 1952. He worked for the City of Detroit and retired after 27 years of service. At his request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Kim was born Jan. 3, 1957, in Sturgis, Mich., to William and Rose (Bonfiglio) Mecklenburg. She has spent the past several years in the Angola area, having worked at many local restaurants. Kim had formerly attended St. Mary’s Church in Bronson. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a very devoted grandmother. Kim is survived by the love of her life and longtime companion Larry Patton of Angola; her mother, Rose Mecklenburg of Bronson; her sons, Jeremy Christopher, Carl Christopher and Walter Frye; her daughter, Cheryl Mann; her brother, Jan Mecklenburg; sister, Robin and Mike Losinski, all of Bronson; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, William; her brother, Terry Mecklenburg; and her sister, Carol Robinson. Relatives and friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in bronson where services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Deacon Gerald Smoker of St. Mary’s Church, officiating. She was born March 19, 1921, in Ogden Center, Mich., the daughter of Leon H. and Helen H. (Wickter) Measures. She married Oakley Myers on Nov. 8, 1941, in Ogden Center and he survives. Marian taught country school in both Hillsdale and Lenawee counties. She attended Lenawee County Normal and Siena Heights College and was a member of the Lauber Hill Reformed Mennonite Church in Burlington. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. Surviving Marian besides her husband, Oakley of Waldron are five sons, Wayne (Faith) Myers of Port Matilda, Pa., Warren (Becky) Myers of Mt. Horeb, Wis., Neil Myers and his partner Mike Adoue of San Diego, Calif., Norman (Ruth) Myers of Shelby, Mich. and Mark Myers and his fiancee Crystal Davis-Starr; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Vivian Turpening. Funeral services for Marian will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11 at the Lauber Hill Reformed Mennonite Church in Burlington. Martha M. Schmidt 1933-2009 Martha M. Schmidt, 76, Sebewaing, died Monday, July 6, 2009 at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City following a lengthy illness. She was born July 5, 1933 in Caro, daughter of the late Charles E. and Adelaide (O'Brien) Dowling. She was united in marriage to Paul W. Schmidt on June 22, 1957 in Caro. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1984. Martha had been a home economics teacher at the Unionville-Sebewaing Area High School for 32 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing. She also was a member of several book clubs, was an avid reader, enjoyed all types of painting, sewing and loved going to the theater. Surviving are two sons, Carl Schmidt, Traverse City and Joseph (April) Schmidt, Unionville; two daughters, Catherine (Gerald) Ilaria, East Brunswick, N.J. and Mary (Bill) Bertagnoli, Gaylord; seven grandchildren; two sisters, JoAnn (Keith) Sturm, Pigeon and Ann (Ed Noble) Dowling, San Jose, Calif.; four brothers, Bill (Kay) Dowling, Grand Ledge, Charles (Shirley) Dowling, Escanaba, Paul (Lucy) Dowling, Malone, Wis. and Tom (Debbie) Dowling, DeWitt; several nieces and nephews. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. He was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Copemish, a son of the late Floyd and Emma (Salton) Evans. Bob had resided in Sturgis since 1972, coming from Constantine. His early life was lived in Copemish and he graduated from Mesick High School with the class of 1959. On Aug. 29, 1962, he married Sue Stotenbur in Tucson, Ariz. Most of Bob’s working life was involved in the recreational vehicle industry. He retired from Viking RV in Centreville following 20 years of employment. He enjoyed his hobby farm, gardening, hunting, cutting wood, feeding his hummingbirds and riding four-wheelers. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue; three sons, James (Teresa) Evans of Bronson, Mark (Tami) Evans of Mesick and Robert Evans Jr. of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren, Angela, Amy, Corey, Jennifer, Kayla, Crystal, Carie, Robert III, Michelle, Branson, Zoe, Zachary and Rylee; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl Benson of Mesick, Freda Barney of Wayland and Marion Ruth of Hanceville, Ala.; two brothers, Dale Evans of Copemish and Paul Evans of Mesick; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and a sister, Janis Hayes, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Ron was the owner and operator of Playford Auto Parts in Jonesville and a former employee of Wilson Auto Parts in Hillsdale. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School; also a Navy veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Surviving besides his wife Myrna are a son, Craig (Wendy) Playford of Jonesville; grandsons, Bryan (Mary) Playford of Jonesville, Brad (Laura) Playford of Tolleson, Ariz., and Lucas Blonde of Grand Rapids; great-grandchildren, Koryn, Kaden and Carson Playford; sister, Rosemary Chervenak of Cambridge, Ohio; brothers, Wayne (Elsie) Playford and Michael Playford, both of Mesa, Ariz., Donald (Donna) Playford of Hillsdale and Jerry (Wilma) Playford of Fort Payne, Ala.; brother-in-law, J.C. (Patricia) Drake of Jackson; and sisters-in-law, Connie Playford and Geraldine Playford. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Vance, Carl and Rex. Funeral services for Ron Playford will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Jonesville United Methodist Church with Dr. David McDonald and the Rev. Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville. The family will receive friends for visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville. Ronald H. Wyatt 1929-2009 Ronald H. Wyatt, 80, Port Austin, passed away Friday July 10, 2009 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on January 11, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, New York, son of the late Maury and Emma (Hahn) Wyatt. He moved with his parents to Philadelphia, where he grew up. Ron married Jane Hodges on September 12, 1980 in Bryan, Ohio. Ron received his education at the German Town Academy and Moravian College. He served in the United States Navy and Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He worked for 30 years at Harvard Industries as a Quality Control Manager. Following their retirement, Ron and Jane moved to Port Austin in 2004. Ron was very active in community activities. He served on the Port Austin Village Council and Planning Commission, was Treasurer of the Thumb Art Guild (TAG), sold books at the Farmers' Market benefiting the Friends of the Library in Port Austin and helped to promote the Veterans Memorial Water Park. He is survived by his wife, Jane; son, Dave (Linda) Wyatt, Columbia, Md.; two step-daughters, Kirsten (John) Allen, Ypsilanti and Sherri (Chris) Halucha, Hampton Bays, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Angie (Jon) Robinson, Hanover, Md. and Patricia Wyatt, Ellicott City, Md.; four step-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joshua and Anna Allen, and Benjamin Halucha; one great-grandchild, Makenzie Robinson and a brother-in-law, Ed Hodges, Tecumseh. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Gladys Wyatt. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be arranged at a later date. Donations may be made to the Port Austin Township Library or the Veterans Memorial Water Park. Arrangements were handled by the Knoblock Funeral Home, Kinde.

Rose R. Sowers, 39, of Sturgis, Mich., went to be with her Lord and Savior early Saturday afternoon, July 11, 2009, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Mich. She was born Jan. 10, 1970, in Detroit, Mich., a daughter to Leo and Loretta (Parisse) Frontera. Rose had resided in Sturgis since 2000 coming from Roseville. On March 13, 2000, she married William Sowers in Detroit. She was a homemaker and attended Macomb Community College and Glen Oaks Community College. Rose was a member of the Whole Life Christian Fellowship Church in Sturgis and enjoyed crocheting, reading, going for rides and walks and country music especially country music artist Tim McGraw. She truly loved spending time with her family and many friends. Rose was happiest when she was giving of her time and helping others. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, William “Bill” Sowers; mother, Loretta Frontera of St. Claire Shores; two sisters, Lisa (Steve) McDonald of Frazier and Marie (Morris “Butch”) Adams of Gwinn; three brothers, Bart (Sophia) Frontera of St. Claire Shores, Leo (Janet) Frontera of Roseville and Dominic “Doc” (Sue) Frontera of Riverview; brothers-in-law, Byron Sowers of Sturgis and Mickey Sowers of South Bend, Ind.; sister-in-law, Myra (Tom) Bergman of South Bend, Ind., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Rose Sowers will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Whole Life Christian Fellowship Church, 1420 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. The Rev. Mrs. Bradish retired to West Palm Beach in 1972. She had been a former member of the Manitou Beach Bible Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her five children, Jerry and Mary Bradish, Linda and Paul Pung, Roger Bradish, Joseph and Debbie Bradish, and Carol Bradish. Shirley A. Lint, 78 of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Sunday morning, July 12, 2009, at Hubbard Hill Estates. Shirley was born on June 17, 1931, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Harry L. and Ruby Boyd Garlets. On June 27, 1954, she married Richard L. Lint in Mongo, Ind. He survives as well as her three sons, Jeffery (Judy) Lint of Indianapolis, Steven (Cheryl) Lint of Elkhart, Ind., and Randall Lint, Bristol, Ind.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive as well.  She is also survived by her sisters, Emma (Norman) Pagels of Sturgis, Mich., and Janice Garlets LaGrange, Ind.; brothers, Donovan (Ann) Garlets of South San Francisco, Calif. and Jerrold Garlets of Chicago.  Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, Allan and Gilbert Garlets.  Mrs. Lint was a school teacher for the Elkhart Community School Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1988. She received her B.A. and master’s degrees from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart. Mrs. Lint’s other memberships include being the past president of the American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters and the Senior Center at the Y.M.C.A.  She was also a volunteer with the Women’s Auxiliary at Elkhart General Hospital. Shirley was an avid bridge player and Chicago Cubs fan, and has traveled extensively throughout the world with her husband. THOMAS A. GUIGAR MARLETTE Thomas A. Guigar, age 86, of Flynn Twp., Marlette, died Monday, July 13, 2009 at Sanilac Medical Care Facility in Sandusky, Michigan. He was born June 17, 1923 in Argyle, Michigan, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Freiberger) Guigar. He was a lifelong area resident. Thomas married Janet E. Bradley on November 8, 1952 in Peck, Michigan, she died on January 25, 2006. He was a farmer, a truck driver for Lakeland Building Supply of Clarkston, and was a mason tender. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Grayling. He is survived by six sons; Thomas V. Guigar of Brown City, Mark (Sue) Guigar of Carsonville, Albert (Jackie) Guigar of Peck, Pete (Betty) Guigar, Ed Guigar and John Guigar, all of Marlette; two daughters, Carla Guigar & Carol Guigar, both of Illinios; two brothers,Robert Guigar of Peck, Clem Guigar of Dearborn;six grandchildren, Aaron, William, Ashley, Jacob, Allison and Sarah. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one son, Allen; one daughter, Grace; two brothers, Jeremiah and Joseph; one sister, Sister Mary Theresa; and two grandsons, Jeremiah, Joshua. Visitation will be held at Marsh Funeral Chapel, Sandusky on Wednesday from 1 - 9 pm and on Thursday from 10 - 11 am. Uva V. Hughes, age 87, of Adrian passed away, July 13, 2009, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. She was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Fairfield Township, Mich., the daughter of Harvey and Nettie (Harsh) DeLano. On July 27, 1940, she married Victor Hughes. He survives. In addition to her husband, Victor, she is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hughes, and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lawrence and Earl DeLano; and two sisters, Emma Olita Cheney and Ethel Francoeur. Uva enjoyed her cats and dogs and loved gardening. She worked at the John Pence Market in Ogden Center and also at Hurd Lock in Adrian. Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2009, at Fairfield Cemetery with Pastor John Kottke officiating. The funeral procession will leave J. W. Joseph Reid Witlam Joseph Reid, 90, passed away July 7, 2009 in Norfolk, Va. He was a native of Harbor Beach and was the son of the late Witlow Joseph and Margaret (O'Neil) Reid. Mr. Reid received both Bachelors and Masters degrees from Old Dominion University. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer from the U.S. Navy with over 30 years of service. He was an associate professor of accounting at Tidewater Community College and was a Certified Public Accountant. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and a former member of the BPOE and Moose Lodges. Mr. Reid is survived by two daughters, Ann Reid Tatman and Nancy (Chester) Reid Long, all of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Lori Beth Long, Cari Ann (David) Hall, Darren Bruce (Nicole) Long, Molly O'Neil Tatman and William Tatman; three great-grandchildren, Peyton M. Hall, Page Ryann Hall and Gracen Elizabeth Long. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reid was predeceased by his wife, Fay N. Reid; son-in-law, William J. Tatman and great-grandchild, Tyler Bruce Long. Wayne Van Patten, 86, of Jonesville, passed away Friday,  at home. Born April 15, 1923 in Litchfield, he was the son of (the late) Melvin Wren and May Belle (Riker) Van Patten. Wayne graduated from Litchfield High School in 1941 and began his early career as a bookkeeper at Simpson Manufacturing Company. He became a banker and loan officer at Hillsdale County National Bank, retiring in 1994 after 48 years of service. Wayne was active in his community, including membership in the Jonesville Rotary Club for 15 years, board member and Past President of the Grosvenor House Museum, former board member of the Hillsdale County Senior Services Center, and 45 years as a sports reporter for area newspapers and radio. He was also a member of the Jonesville Presbyterian Church and Men’s Fellowship. In his leisure time, Wayne loved mowing his big lawn at home, as well as caring for his pets. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be sadly missed by his wife Helen Elaine (Crandall) Van Patten, whom he married Aug. 10, 1947; two daughters, Ann (Donald) Johnson of Jonesville, Wendy (Edward) Conklin of Litchfield; one son, Jeffrey Van Patten of Jonesville; five granddaughters, Jessica La Rue, Sara Draper, Christine Foreman, Elizabeth Dilyard, and Heather Miller; and four great-grandchildren.  One brother, Wendell D. Van Patten, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield, with the Rev. Gary Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Litchfield. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
