Barbara J. Miklovich Lapeer Barbara J. Miklovich, 75, a lifetime Lapeer resident, passed away Monday (July 20, 2009). She was born June 18, 1934, in Lapeer, to Milton and Eleanor (Kerbyson) Hodgson. Mrs. Miklovich was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, Lapeer. She was the Sunday School Superintendent at the church for years. Barb helped with many Zemmer Junior High School events. She enjoyed cake decorating, knitting afghans and dishcloths, as well as country music jamborees. Brian E. Mallory 1958-2009 Brian Eric Mallory, 51, Gagetown, died peacefully Sunday, July 12, 2009 at his home with his family and friends by his side. He was born May 13, 1958 in Cass City to James and Beverly (Gilmore) Mallory. Brian and Renee Marie Kuhl were married October 15, 1983 in Sebewaing. Brian was a self-employed carpenter and stone mason. Previously he worked for General Cable, Marlette Homes, Kuhl Building Products in Sebewaing and Dave Nicol Woodworking. Brian was an active Boy Scout Leader and a very talented musician. In the early 90s he owned and operated Mallory Music in Cass City. Brian played with several bands over the years including Windfall and Whiskey Jack. He gave music lessons for years. Brian was a great influence in the lives of many young people through his music and scouting. He was a talented woodworker making beautiful rustic furniture. Brian was the former Hand Bell Choir Director at Cass City United Methodist Church and an advocate for the Cass City High School Band. Brian loved and appreciated the beauty and calm of nature. He loved gardening, camping, deer hunting, small game hunting and working outside. He is survived by his wife, Renee; sons, Dustin (Jessie Tuckey) Mallory, Gagetown and Derrick Mallory, Ypsilanti; parents, Jim and Bev Mallory, Kingston; special canine companion, Mike; siblings, Gary (Mary) Mallory, Kingston, Trasi (Garrison) Goforth, Vassar and Jeff (Tara) Mallory, Kingston; brothers-in-law, Dan (Brenda) Kuhl, Bay Port and Larry (Faye) Kuhl, Corryton, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Dr. William J. McCoy 1917-2009 Dr. William J. McCoy, D.V.M., 92, Bad Axe and formerly of Minden City, passed away Sunday morning, July 12, 2009 at his daughter's residence near Lakeport. He was born on May 7, 1917 in Minden City to the late Dr. John and Alma (Brodbeck) McCoy. William was united in marriage to Olive Schock on December 30, 1939 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Saginaw. Olive taught school for many years at various area schools. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2002. William was born in Minden City and attended school there until the end of his sophomore year. He transferred to Harbor Beach High School and graduated with the class of 1935. In 1942 he graduated from Michigan State College's School of Veterinary Medicine. After receiving his D.V.M. degree, Bill joined his father's large animal veterinary practice in the Minden City area. He practiced there until he joined the Michigan Department of Agriculture in 1959. Bill retired from the Michigan Department of Agriculture after 28 years. Throughout his lifetime, William had a profound appreciation of nature's beauty and she richly rewarded him for his interest. For many years, he was a parishioner at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Ruth before becoming a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Bill will be very much missed by those who love him. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Dr. Alister) MacKenzie, Lakeport, Karen (Gerry) Resmer, Midland, Donald (Michele) McCoy, Richard (Patricia) McCoy; nine special grandchildren, Matthew, Sarajane, Emily Ann, Donald, Kimberly, Justin, Dr. S. James, Kathryn and William; two sisters, Helen Bennett, Applegate and Mary Sweigert, Detroit; four brothers, Joseph (Gloria) McCoy, Minden City, Patrick (Sarah) McCoy, Port Huron, Frank (Lorraine) McCoy, Marlette and Richard (Bertha) McCoy, Detroit. Eva M. Yeider, 99, of Waldron, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009, at her home. She was born Feb. 18, 1910, in Liberty Township, the daughter of Homer C. and Civilla (Lake) Adams. She married Fred Marsh and he preceded her in death in 1948 and she then married Fred Yeider and he preceded her in death in 1987. Eva was a resident of Michigan all but eight years of her life when she resided in Laten, Calif. from 1933-1941. She dedicated the majority her life to her family and hard work and will be sadly missed by all. Surviving Eva is one daughter, Barbara Sorgenfrie of Waldron; two sons, Robert Marsh of Alba, and Lowell (Judy) Marsh of Evart; one sister, Wilma Gilbert of Jackson; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one sister, Elizabeth Mercer; one brother, Leo Adams; and three grandchildren. Graveside services for Eva will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at East Liberty Cemetery in Liberty Township with Mr. Robert Marsh Jr. officiating. There will be no visitation hours. Eva Mae Sowle, 84, of Jonesville, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. She was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Frontier, to W.J. and Nora (Hammond) Westfall. She was first married Jan. 1, 1943, to Earl Lockwood and he preceded her in death in 1996. She was married Oct. 17, 1999, to W. Robert Sowle and he survives. Eva Mae was the owner and operator of Mode-O-Day Dress Shop in Hillsdale. She was a member of the Baw Beese Chiefs and a resident of this area all her life. Surviving besides her husband Robert are two children, Judy Ann (Charles) Alspaugh of Reading and William Earl (Sharon) Lockwood of Nashua, New Hampshire; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Earl, a daughter Vickie Lynn, two sisters Maleta Turner and Morine Gemmill, and a brother Edward Westfall. Funeral services for Eva Mae Sowle will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 24 at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Florence H. “Toni” Gallant, 86, a lifetime resident of Tecumseh, passed away peacefully at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Tecumseh Place, where she had been a resident for 1½ years. She was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Toledo, Ohio, to John A. and Lillian (Fischer) Wilson. She was a 1940 graduate of Tecumseh High School. On June 18, 1940, she married Thomas A. Gallant in Tecumseh. Sadly, he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1997.  She attended the Ann Arbor Practical Nursing Center and received her license in 1960. She then worked 23 years at Bixby Hospital as a LPN-Medical Technician, retiring in 1985. She then worked part time at the California Toning Center, Tecumseh.  Toni was a member of the Tecumseh Church of the Nazarene, a charter member of the Tecumseh Music Club, former member of Chapter 51 OES, a Lenawee-Monroe County Soloist for Eastern Star, and a former Girl Scout Leader. She especially enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad with her husband, and on trips with Time Out Tours and with Ollie’s Group. Survivors include her loving children, Sharon Payton of Tecumseh, Brenda (Charles) Rebottaro of Britton and Thomas J. (Donna) Gallant of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a son-in-law, J. Michael Linn of Clinton; and eight cherished grandchildren and 17 loved great-grandchildren.  Along with her husband she was preceded in death by her father, John; mother and stepfather, Ralph (Lillian) Westgate; a brother, John A. (Jack) Wilson; two infant brothers; a daughter, Mary Beth Linn; and a granddaughter, Carrie Lynn Merillat. Friends may call at the Handler Funeral Home, Tecumseh, on Tuesday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. She will Lie in State on Wednesday at the Tecumseh Church of the Nazarene from 10 a.m. until services celebrating her life at 11 a.m. The Rev. Richard Bruce, retired pastor of the church, and the Rev. Robert Lewis, pastor of the church, will officiate. Freda A. Kosmerick, age 89 of Leonidas, died Sunday July 19, 2009 at Sturgis Hospital following a long illness. She was born in Bethel on March 23, 1920, one of nine children born to Dolphia and Alva (Souseley) Dove. She has resided in St. Joseph County for most of her life. Freda had worked at Doerr Products, and Garrison and Associates for several years. She also sold Tupperware products from her home. Freda was a member of the Moose Lodge in Sturgis and the American Legion Auxiliary in Colon. She did in-home care for the elderly, and enjoyed cooking and gardening during her spare time. Freda’s first marriage to J. Robert Alldredge ended in divorce in 1954. Her second marriage to Joseph Kosmerick ended with his death in 1972. She was a long-time companion to Maurice Goertler until his death in 1989. Freda is survived by two sons, Richard Alldredge (Judy Meuth) of Pullman, Wash. and Michael Alldredge, Sr. of Leonidas; seven grandchildren, Kate Meuth-Alldredge of Korea, Josh Meuth-Alldredge of Pullman, Wash., Michael Alldredge, Jr. (April) of Burr Oak, Amy Lynn Krebbs of Burr Oak, Denim Downs (Andy) of Colon, Jessica Dosier (Nathan) of Quincy, and Dustiny Flanders of Coldwater; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jake Dove of Birmingham, Ala. and Delmer Dove of Coldwater; two sisters, Madge Scheidler and Opal Stettler both of Coldwater; several nieces and nephews. George Preletz Attica George Preletz, 91, of Attica (recently of Lapeer) passed away Sunday (July 19, 2009) at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. George was born April 19, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Vit and Mary Preletz. He grew up in Detroit. He lived in Attica for 53 years. He married Frances Lucille Black on September 23, 1939 in Imlay City. George worked for Chrysler Motors Jefferson Plant in Detroit for 30+ years as a payroll/accountant. He went into partnership with Harry Urich at the Imlay City Accountant/Bookkeeping Service. Later, he opened George Preletz Tax & Accounting Services in Attica and worked there for 40+ years. He was a member of the Shriners Elf-Khurafeh Temple, a life member of the Attica Free and Accepted Masons and a member of Scottish Rite and the Hillbilly Lodge. He helped build the Attica Masonic Hall. He drove a Tin Lizzie in parades. George enjoyed dancing, playing his harmonica, fishing and collecting old cars, especially Studebak |

Jack Duane Carr, 74, of Raisin Township, died Monday, July 20, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1934, in Hudson, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Farnsworth) Carr. On March 13, 1954, he was married to Donna Thibodeau and she survives. Jack was employed at Tecumseh Products for 42 years, retiring in 1995. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh. Jack enjoyed his Paso Fino horses, traveling, and loved NASCAR. In addition to his wife, Donna, Jack is survived by one son, Mark (Lisa) Carr of Tecumseh; one daughter, Denise Stevens of Adrian; two brothers, Dan Carr of Camden and Warren Carr of Adrian; six grandchildren, Garrett Stevens, Megan and P.K. Kolby and Nathan, Wyatt, and Collin Carr and one great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Pratt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 23 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 24 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh with the Rev. Richard Mortimer officiating. In state at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice or the American Lung Association. James C. Dillon 1927-2009 James Clyde Dillon, 82, Port Austin, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2009 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born on June 14. 1927 in Mayfield, Ky., son of the late Richard and Lula May (Jones) Dillon. James married Dolores Delegato on April 2, 1951 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Roseville. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a beloved husband and a loving father. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim was a proud veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II on the USS Puget Sound. Jana Kae Marshall, 53, of Litchfield, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday July 14, 2009 in Skiatook, Okla. She was born March 18, 1956 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Lyle E. and Joan M. (Goodrich) Reynolds. In 1974, Jana graduated from Union City High School as salutatorian of her class. She also graduated from KCC as a medical assistant, and had been employed at the Litchfield Nursing Centre and Jones Chiropractic Center. Jana was also active in her community as a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed supporting the Litchfield Community Schools, serving as a class advisor and member of the athletic boosters. Most important to Jana were her children, and she loved attending their athletic events and watching them show cattle at the fair. On June 5, 1976 she married Donald Marshall, and he survives, along with one daughter, Kayla Marshall at home; two sons, Mark (fiancée, Alicia) Marshall, Jonesville and Neil Marshall, Concord; mother, Joan Reynolds, Battle Creek; two sisters, Katrina (Gerald) Sexton, Battle Creek and Marla (Richard) Colburn, Battle Creek; several nieces and nephews. Her father and brother-in-law (Gary Hudson) preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Litchfield United Methodist Church, with interment following in Mount Hope Cemetery, Litchfield. Joseph D. Roberts 1952-2009 Joseph D. Roberts, 57, Harbor Beach, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009 at Huron Medical Care Center near Bad Axe. He was born in Harbor Beach on January 16, 1952 the son of the late James and Adelia (Staroskia) Roberts. Joe was a graduate of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School in 1970 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Army for six years. He was a former employee of Dott Manufacturing and enjoyed fishing, camping and watching baseball and softball. He was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach. Larry Michael Sweet, age 45‚ of Constantine, passed away July 20, 2009, following a water sport accident. He was born in Battle Creek on May 18, 1964,  a son of Jerry and Sandra (Burke) Sweet. Larry graduated from Centreville High School in 1982. On May 4, 1985, he married Dawn Wahl in Three Rivers. They were later divorced. Larry retired as a machine operator at Dock Foundry and previously worked at Huddleston Lumber. He enjoyed snowmobiling, skiing, boating and riding wave runners. Larry also loved to travel, spend time with his friends and family and was an avid U-M sports fan. Surviving are his sons Jared Sweet of Kalamazoo, Matt Sweet of Three Rivers and their mother Dawn Boughton of Three Rivers; and brothers John Sweet of Three Rivers and Paul Arnold of Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Sweet, and mother, Sandra Sweet Arnold. Cremation has taken place. He was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Camden Township, the son of Edgar Floyd and Gracy May (Iden) Cope. Lawrence graduated from Reading High School in 1934 and attended (now) Michigan State University. He became a district manager for Prudential Insurance Co., serving the Lansing, Owosso and Mount Pleasant areas. Formerly, he belonged to the Elks Lodge. Two wives, Virginia (Giffey) Cope and Betty Smith Cope preceded him in death. Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia (Bob) Fox, Brighton; two sons, David (Chris) Cope, Cedar River and Daniel (Kathy) Cope, Grand Ledge; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Hard, 79, of Reading, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale.   He was born April 18, 1930 in Butler Township, the son of Warren and Gladys (Williams) Hard. Leon graduated from Quincy High School, Tri-State University and South Central Michigan School of Practical Nursing. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a mechanical engineer at J.I. Case Co. in Racine, Wisc. and was also a Licensed Practical Nurse. Formerly a member of the Fisher Hill Methodist Church, he attended the North Reading Baptist Church, where he worked and supplied materials for their Mission Circle. He also volunteered at Crossroads Farm Youth Ministry. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and photography. Survivors include his wife, Emily (Rives) Hard, whom he married May 20, 1989; step-son Daniel D’Alessandro of Jackson; sisters Donna Graham of Louisiana and Joyce (Clem) McLain of Jonesville; brother Francis (Leona) Hard of Coldwater, brother-in-law Lowell Thomas, grandson Michael Carlson and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Carolyn Thomas and Lena Belle Hard and step-daughters Faith D’Alessandro and Sheryl Schmidt. Interment of ashes will be held at Lester Cemetery at a later date. Linda was born Sept. 30, 1954 in Coldwater to Arthur and Barbara (Knight) Hefner. Psalm 116:15 — Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. On July 20, 2009 something happened that was precious in Jesus‚ eyes. Linda Dena Hefner went to be with him. The story of their love had been going on for years. He found her when she was struggling over many life issues — health, relationships, finding a job so she could launch out on her own and find her own place to live. She found those answers in Jesus. He became her home. He guarded and guided her through her life and health issues so that she lived on this earth much longer than a lifelong diabetic can expect to live. (By the way, thank you for that Lord). She served the Lord in love and was always a help to those in need and whether they required food, shelter or clothing she served them. Her example of love was wonderful to see and to receive and in her love she helped many on a road to recover their lost way. We love her and we will miss her but we know right where to find her — with Jesus her Lord and her Savior. Linda was a lifelong resident of Branch County.  She was a 1972 graduate of Coldwater High School and a member of the Lockwood Community Church.  Linda had attended Kellogg Community College, where she had worked toward a nursing degree. She worked at the former Carriage Inn, now known as the Laurels of Coldwater. Linda cared for many children of family and friends in her home, volunteered with the Branch Interfaith Hospitality Network, and was a Library tutor with the Literacy Council. Linda is survived by her son Nathan Hefner, her grandson Caelan Hefner, her mother Barbara Hefner-Parks, sisters Sandra Brainard, Patricia Hefner, her brother Daniel (Barbara) Hefner all of Coldwater and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lulu "Lou" Ferguson Imlay City Lulu "Lou" Ferguson, 78, of Imlay City, passed away Sunday (July 19, 2009) after a lengthy battle with cancer at the United Hospice Residence of Marlette Regional Hospital. She was born July 2, 1931, in Clymer, Pa., daughter to the late Jay and Viola (Makin) Ackerson. She married Robert Ferguson on July 11, 1952 in West Virginia. Lou was a homemaker and owned and operated the Red Barn Amish Furniture Store in Burnside for many years. She enjoyed many things in life, including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and watching soap operas. Mark James Stockman, 63, of Litchfield Township, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at home. He was born Feb. 12, 1946, in Hillsdale to Walter L. and Eugenia V. (Keeling) Stockman and was a robot welder at Hutchinson STS in Reading. Mark enjoyed his grandchildren and his dogs, playing cards and watching westerns. On Dec. 29, 1978, he married Patricia Camp and she survives along with two daughters, Tiffany Stockman of Litchfield, Jinny Northrup of Litchfield; one son, Mark Stockman of Carson City; one sister, Emma (Alvin) Finch of Litchfield; two brothers, Richard (Jane) Stockman of Hillsdale, Sylvan (Darlene) Stockman of Homer; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Merrill Dee Brown, age 69, of Clinton died Monday, July 20, 2009 at home. He was born on Oct. 27, 1939, in Sabine, W.Va., the son of Willie Dee and Ruby (Fleming) Brown. He married Nerissa Strand on Dec. 26, 1978, and she survives. Merrill was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a machine operator for Ford Motor Company in Rawsonville for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Merrill will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Michael V. Batt, 72, of Allen, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the Laurels of Coldwater. He was born Aug. 20, 1936 in Highland Park, the son of Victor and Doris (Miller) Batt. Michael graduated from Litchfield High School and served a 20-year career in the U.S. Army from 1954 – 1975. After enlisting in the Army, he enjoyed seeing the world, especially Germany where he met Inge in 1966 and married her in 1969. Since 1994, he has been a member of the Allen Fire Department and was proud to have trained many other firefighters. He also enjoyed farming and belonged to the Allen American Legion Post #538 and the Allen Knights of Pythias. Survivors include his wife, Inge (Wackermann) Batt, of Allen; one daughter, Caroline Batt, of Battle Creek; one brother, Charles Batt, of Allen. His parents and one sister (Leah M. Batt) preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Allen Cemetery, with the Rev. Craig Pahl and Chaplain Ralph Bieganek officiating. There will be no visitation. Michele Mills Rokicak, age 54 of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, July 20, 2009, at her home. She was born Sept. 14, 1954, at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, a daughter to the late Bruce and Dorlene (Goodman) Mills Sr. Michele had resided in Sturgis since 1975 coming from Kalamazoo, Mich. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School with the class of 1972. Michele had been employed by Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis as the payroll clerk for more than 20 years. She had also been employed in the medical records department at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo for several years. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis, where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister. Michele enjoyed bowling, sailing, knitting and spending time with Jimmy and her grandson Xavier. She is survived by her life partner, Jim Faber; two daughters, Jenny (Josh) Palmer of Sturgis and Angela Rokicak of Lovell, Wyo.; a grandson, Xavier Palmer; a sister, Roxie Mills of Sturgis; two brothers, Bruce (Francie) Mills of Kalamazoo and Patrick Farley Mills of Hilton Head, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Richard Navock 1926-2009 Richard Navock, 83, Kinde, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on April 5, 1926 in Grindstone, son of the late Jacob and Nellie (Strozeski) Navock. He and Theresa Schramski were married on May 26, 1951 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Port Austin. Richard was an Army Veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Sebewaing Post 4115 and St. Michaels Catholic Church in Port Austin. Robert "Bob" Hunt Lapeer Robert "Bob" Hunt, 84, a lifetime Lapeer area resident, passed away Tuesday (July 14, 2009). He was born February 21, 1925, in North Branch, to Bill and Louise Hunt. He married Normagene Haskill on July 14, 1945 at Liberty Street Gospel Church, Lapeer. Bob joined his late wife on what would have been their 64th wedding anniversary. Mr. Hunt was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Lapeer. He enjoyed many things in life, most of which were right along side of his wife; taking a ride in the car, camping in Tawas with family and being a Tiger baseball fan. Robert A. Evans Sr., age 68, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, July 14, 2009, at his home. He was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Copemish, a son of the late Floyd and Emma (Salton) Evans. Bob had resided in Sturgis since 1972, coming from Constantine. His early life was lived in Copemish and he graduated from Mesick High School with the class of 1959. On Aug. 29, 1962, he married Sue Stotenbur in Tucson, Ariz. Most of Bob’s working life was involved in the recreational vehicle industry. He retired from Viking RV in Centreville following 20 years of employment. He enjoyed his hobby farm, gardening, hunting, cutting wood, feeding his hummingbirds and riding four-wheelers. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue; three sons, James (Teresa) Evans of Bronson, Mark (Tami) Evans of Mesick and Robert Evans Jr. of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren, Angela, Amy, Corey, Jennifer, Kayla, Crystal, Carie, Robert III, Michelle, Branson, Zoe, Zachary and Rylee; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl Benson of Mesick, Freda Barney of Wayland and Marion Ruth of Hanceville, Ala.; two brothers, Dale Evans of Copemish and Paul Evans of Mesick; and many nieces and nephews. Robert L. “Pop” Hayden, 100, died Sunday, July 19, 2009. He was born Nov. 16, 1908, in Durand, Mich., the son of Lewis A. and Leah A. (Johnson) Hayden. Bob lived for a brief period in Owosso, Mich., and in 1912 the family moved to Elberta, Mich. He graduated from Elberta High School in 1926 and from Central State Teachers College at Mt. Pleasant in 1931 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and later a M.A. Degree from the University of Michigan. In October of 1932, he married Zona E. Duncan of Traverse City. He started teaching in the Elberta Public Schools in 1932 and was employed there until 1935. Then he moved to Adrian and was employed in the Adrian School System until he retired in July of 1974. While in Adrian he taught Social Science and coached basketball, baseball and assisted in football in the high school for about 12 years, followed by a period as a Counselor-Assistant Principal in the high school. Then a period of 20 years as High School Principal, and he continued with the remainder of his tenure at the Board of Education. He was the last Principal of Senior High School (Grades 10-11-12) and the first Principal of the current High School. After leaving the High School for the new position at the Board of Education, while there seven years, he noted the handwriting on the wall, that all school employees were no longer employed after the age of 65. He began to think retirement. Then, on July 1, 1974, with some other employees too old to continue to work there, he retired for a different way of living. No more school work — a vacation during his bonus on longevity — family, this and that, and the program of Mother Nature. He liked Adrian (home since 1935 on McKenzie St.), the people — what the city offered. He was active in the local Rotary for more than 57 years — a feeling of responsibility to society. Survivors include daughters-in-law, Mary V. Hayden of Lansing, Nancy (Hayden) Cochran and her husband, Del, of Adrian; grandson, John (JR.) Hayden of Adrian; granddaughters, Lynn (Cochran) Sager and Kristen Cochran. The funeral service for Bob will be on Thursday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at Wagley Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, July 22, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park at a later date. Robert T. “Bob” McDonough, age 57, of Three Rivers, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2009, at the University of Michigan Hospital; he was surrounded by his family. He was born on July 11, 1952, in Lockport, N.Y., the son of Lawrence and Nancy Jean McDonough. Bob graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1970.  He earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a Juris Doctor Degree, magna cum laude, from the Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich.  He was both a certified public accountant and an attorney, and  he was a member of the American, Michigan, and St. Joseph County Bar Associations. Bob began working for the Upjohn Company in 1979 and stayed with its successor organizations until his retirement in 2007.  During his tenure in the pharmaceutical industry, Bob held senior positions in Corporate Finance & Taxation, Global Public Policy, and Corporate Affairs. Bob was formerly the mayor of his hometown, Three Rivers, Mich.,  president of the Three Rivers Board of Education and chairman of the board of Three Rivers Area Hospital. More recently, he was a board member of the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation and of Borgess Health, supervisor of Fabius Township, and an instructor for graduate courses on health policy at Western Michigan University. Bob’s true love was his family.  He loved to be involved in the lives and activities of his four sons, and cherished the 40 years he spent with his high school sweetheart.  He enjoyed biking, golfing, sailing and spending summer days tending to his yard at the lake.  A devoted fan of the Wolverines, he spent many Saturdays at the Big House in Ann Arbor and often said that he bled maize and blue.  He strongly believed in public service and was very proud to serve both the Three Rivers and Kalamazoo communities. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving family, wife Kathy “Katie” (Kroggel) McDonough, whom he married on May 24, 1975;  four sons, John (Amanda), of White Pigeon, Mich., Thomas, of Chicago, Kevin and Kristofer, both of Ann Arbor, Mich.;  two brothers, Peter (Cherie), of Three Rivers, and William (Donna) McDonough, of Highland, Mich.; two sisters, Suzanne McDonough (Darrell Radson), of Houghton, Mich., and Mary Catherine (Mike) Kromrey, of Denver, Colo.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of colleagues and friends throughout his associations. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers, Mich. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 645 Douglas Ave., Three Rivers, with Fr. Mark Vyverman and Fr. William Jacobs as celebrants. Memorials may be donated to the Carnegie Center Council for the Arts, 107 N. Main Street, Three Rivers, MI.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.   |

SANDRA J. CASADONTE CROSWELL Sandra J. Casadonte, age 62, a resident of Croswell, passed away at her residence on Saturday, July 11, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 13, 1947 in Grand Rapids, daughter of the late Joseph and Kathleen (Therrian) Clark. Sandy married Robert B. Casadonte on July 8, 1972 in Royal Oak. Sandy was a homemaker. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing flowers and her flower beds around the house. Sandy also enjoyed crocheting and crafting. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert B. Casadonte of Croswell; one son, Thomas Casadonte; three daughters, Corrine Ross, Laura Short and Theresa Cardinale; twelve grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Clark. Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Chesney, her step father, Roy D. Chesney and two sisters, Sharon Justice and Dianna Bain. Sister Joan Cecile LaCombe, formerly known as Marian Catherine LaCombe, died on July 20, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 86 years of age and in the 68th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Joan Cecile was born in Munising, Mich., to John and Henrietta (Rabiteau) LaCombe. Sister graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich., a Master of Education Degree in Administration from Loyola University in Chicago, Ill., and a Master of Religious Education Degree in Religious Studies from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Sister spent 36 years ministering in education in Detroit, Marquette and Iron Mountain, Mich.; Elgin, Chicago, Elmwood Park, and Riverdale, Ill.; and Santa Cruz, Calif. She was Principal for six years at St. Kilian in Chicago. Sister was Director of Religious Education for seven years in Marquette and Iron Mountain, Mich., and Riverdale, Ill. She was Pastoral Minister for two years at St. Paul Parish in Owosso, Mich., and for eight years at St. Hilary Parish in Akron, Ohio. From 1978 to 1982 she was Vicaress for the Motherhouse Vicariate. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2006. Sister is survived by two sisters, Vivian Rousseau and Lucille Artibee, both of Munising, Mich.; and a brother, William LaCombe of Flushing, Mich. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Virginia H. Kintner, age 83, of Adrian died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. She was born April 20, 1926, in Adrian, to John B. and Martha S. (Collins) Neal. On Aug. 10, 1944, she married George L. Kintner in Adrian. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2009. Virginia was a member of the First Church of the Brethren. She was a Blue Bird Leader for 10 years and also served as Secretary and President of the PTA at Alexander School. Virginia ran a day care in her home for 11 years. Virginia is survived by three sons, Charles Kintner and his wife, Nancy, of Tecumseh, John Kintner and his wife, Sue, of Adrian and George Kintner and his wife, Brenda, of Waldron; two daughters, Charlotte Pickney and her husband, Millard, of Sterling Heights and Sharon Church of Williamston, Mich.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Gary Church; three brothers and four sisters.
