Brian E. Mallory 1958-2009 Brian Eric Mallory, 51, Gagetown, died peacefully Sunday, July 12, 2009 at his home with his family and friends by his side. He was born May 13, 1958 in Cass City to James and Beverly (Gilmore) Mallory. Brian and Renee Marie Kuhl were married October 15, 1983 in Sebewaing. Brian was a self-employed carpenter and stone mason. Previously he worked for General Cable, Marlette Homes, Kuhl Building Products in Sebewaing and Dave Nicol Woodworking. Brian was an active Boy Scout Leader and a very talented musician. In the early 90s he owned and operated Mallory Music in Cass City. Brian played with several bands over the years including Windfall and Whiskey Jack. He gave music lessons for years. Brian was a great influence in the lives of many young people through his music and scouting. He was a talented woodworker making beautiful rustic furniture. Brian was the former Hand Bell Choir Director at Cass City United Methodist Church and an advocate for the Cass City High School Band. Brian loved and appreciated the beauty and calm of nature. He loved gardening, camping, deer hunting, small game hunting and working outside. He is survived by his wife, Renee; sons, Dustin (Jessie Tuckey) Mallory, Gagetown and Derrick Mallory, Ypsilanti; parents, Jim and Bev Mallory, Kingston; special canine companion, Mike; siblings, Gary (Mary) Mallory, Kingston, Trasi (Garrison) Goforth, Vassar and Jeff (Tara) Mallory, Kingston; brothers-in-law, Dan (Brenda) Kuhl, Bay Port and Larry (Faye) Kuhl, Corryton, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jem and Eva Mallory and Elmer and Neva Gilmore; father and mother-in-law, Walton and Dolores Kuhl. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Pastor Len Wyatt of Kingston Wesleyan Church officiating. Dea Marie Riso, age 82, of Tecumseh passed away July 19, 2009. Dea was born May 12, 1927, in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of Louis and Piettrinella (Friscia) Bernarducci. In 1948, she married Arnold Ralph Riso in New York. He preceded her in death in 1984.  Her passions were gardening, antiquing, music and cooking for her family.  Dea is survived by her daughters, Donna (James) Root of Britton and Christine Riso of Lemont, Ill.; grandchildren, A.J. Root, Samantha Root and Candice Riso; and sister, Gloria Zeoli. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank. Visitation will  be 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with a  Memorial service to begin at 4 p.m.

Dr. William J. McCoy 1917-2009 Dr. William J. McCoy, D.V.M., 92, Bad Axe and formerly of Minden City, passed away Sunday morning, July 12, 2009 at his daughter's residence near Lakeport. He was born on May 7, 1917 in Minden City to the late Dr. John and Alma (Brodbeck) McCoy. William was united in marriage to Olive Schock on December 30, 1939 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Saginaw. Olive taught school for many years at various area schools. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2002. William was born in Minden City and attended school there until the end of his sophomore year. He transferred to Harbor Beach High School and graduated with the class of 1935. In 1942 he graduated from Michigan State College's School of Veterinary Medicine. After receiving his D.V.M. degree, Bill joined his father's large animal veterinary practice in the Minden City area. He practiced there until he joined the Michigan Department of Agriculture in 1959. Bill retired from the Michigan Department of Agriculture after 28 years. Throughout his lifetime, William had a profound appreciation of nature's beauty and she richly rewarded him for his interest. For many years, he was a parishioner at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Ruth before becoming a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Bill will be very much missed by those who love him. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Dr. Alister) MacKenzie, Lakeport, Karen (Gerry) Resmer, Midland, Donald (Michele) McCoy, Richard (Patricia) McCoy; nine special grandchildren, Matthew, Sarajane, Emily Ann, Donald, Kimberly, Justin, Dr. S. James, Kathryn and William; two sisters, Helen Bennett, Applegate and Mary Sweigert, Detroit; four brothers, Joseph (Gloria) McCoy, Minden City, Patrick (Sarah) McCoy, Port Huron, Frank (Lorraine) McCoy, Marlette and Richard (Bertha) McCoy, Detroit. William was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Alma; wife, Olive; two sons, William J. McCoy Jr. and James P. McCoy; two sisters, Olive Higgins and Alma Kosal; four brothers, John, James, Robert and Thomas McCoy, one infant twin and many special, dear in-laws and friends. Funeral mass was held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Rev. Peter Nwokoye, pastor, officiated, with burial taking place in the church cemetery. Eva Mae Sowle, 84, of Jonesville, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. She was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Frontier, to W.J. and Nora (Hammond) Westfall. She was first married Jan. 1, 1943, to Earl Lockwood and he preceded her in death in 1996. She was married Oct. 17, 1999, to W. Robert Sowle and he survives. Eva Mae was the owner and operator of Mode-O-Day Dress Shop in Hillsdale. She was a member of the Baw Beese Chiefs and a resident of this area all her life. Surviving besides her husband Robert are two children, Judy Ann (Charles) Alspaugh of Reading and William Earl (Sharon) Lockwood of Nashua, New Hampshire; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Earl, a daughter Vickie Lynn, two sisters Maleta Turner and Morine Gemmill, and a brother Edward Westfall. Funeral services for Eva Mae Sowle will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 24 at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ransom Township. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Freda A. Kosmerick, age 89, of Leonidas, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Sturgis Hospital following a long illness.  She was born in Bethel, Mich., on March 23, 1920, one of nine children born to Dolphia and Alva (Souseley) Dove. She has resided in St. Joseph County for most of her life. Freda had worked at Doerr Products and Garrison and Associates for several years. She also sold Tupperware products from her home.  Freda was a member of the Moose Lodge in Sturgis and the American Legion Auxiliary in Colon.  She did in-home care for the elderly and enjoyed cooking and gardening during her spare time. Freda’s first marriage to J. Robert Alldredge ended in divorce in 1954.  Her second marriage to Joseph Kosmerick ended with his death in 1972.  She was a long-time companion to Maurice Goertler until his death in 1989. Freda is survived by two sons, Richard Alldredge (Judy Meuth) of Pullman, Wash., and Michael Alldredge Sr. of Leonidas;  seven grandchildren, Kate Meuth-Alldredge of Korea, Josh Meuth-Alldredge of Pullman, Wash., Michael Alldredge Jr. (April) of Burr Oak, Amy Lynn Krebbs of Burr Oak, Denim Downs (Andy) of Colon, Jessica Dosier (Nathan) of Quincy and Dustiny Flanders of Coldwater;  12 great-grandchildren;  two brothers, Jake Dove of Birmingham, Ala., and Delmer Dove of Coldwater;  two sisters, Madge Scheidler and Opal Stettler, both of Coldwater; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Alldredge; two daughters, Jean Elliot and Joyce Akin; and four brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. He was born on September 18, 1961 in Harbor Beach to Marvin and the late Virginia (Wrubel) Booms. Greg and Cindy Weiss were married on November 5, 1994 in Harbor Beach. Greg was a mechanic for Harbor Beach Community Schools since 1992. He enjoyed modified tractor pulling, drag racing and especially being with his family. Greg was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, Harbor Beach; daughter, Courtney Booms, Peck; sons, Zackery and Jessy Booms, Harbor Beach; father, Marvin Booms, Harbor Beach; brothers, Russell (Lorie) Booms, Bad Axe, Roy (Peg) Booms, Minden City and Dale (Pam) Booms, Harbor Beach and sister, Carol (Lenny) Fisher, Kinde. HARRY P. MCDONALD KINGTSON Harry P. McDonald, age 77, of Kingston, passed away, Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at home surrounded by his wife & children. He was born December 3, 1931 in Columbiaville, son of the late Joseph & Lillian (Parrot) McDonald. He married Barbara Smith on January 26, 1952 in Decker. Harry served his country in the U.S. Army from August 1952 to August 1954, during the Korean War. He was assigned as a Heavy Machinery Mechanic with the Corps of Engineers. After returning home, he worked for General Coach from 1954 to 1962 and from 1962 to 1965 he worked for Schrader's Sunoco in Marlette. In 1965 Harry started working for General Motors Pontiac Division, he retired from G.M. in 1996 with 31 years of service. His records indicate he missed 1 day of scheduled work, which was a source of pride for him. Harry was a member of the Kingston V.F.W. for 4 years. He continued his service and membership with the V.F.W. at the Marlette Post. He held various positions duringhis 16 years at the Marlette Post. He was Post Commander & Quarter Master. He also was a member of the Decker Methodist Church. Harry had many interests in life. Among his interests were farming, truck driving, mechanics, welding, model trains and spending time on the Sturgeon river in Wolverine, Michigan, but most of all he cherished family time as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grand papa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary & Eva; two brothers, Warren & Norman; one son, Michael and one grandson, Michael. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Kingston; three daughters, Catherine (Alan) Harrell of New Waverly, Texas, Elizabeth (Paul) Varga of Alanson, Michigan, Sandra (Larry) Gibbs of Humble, Texas; one son, Steven (Shari) McDonald of Kingston; grandchildren Heath McDonald of Clifford, Anne Varga of Alanson, Jeremy (Amy) Stover of New Waverly, Texas, Jason (Rachel) Stover of Marlette; great grandchildren, Ethan & Kaylee Stover of New Waverly,Texas, Logan & Alex Stover of Marlette; one sister, Josephine Furray of New Port Richie, Florida; many nieces & nephews, brothers & sister-in-laws and his faithful loving dog Tyne. Helen Sontag, 72, of Sebewaing, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw following a six-month illness., She was born Aug. 27, 1936 in Kilmanagh, daughter of the late Edwin and Martha (Fuerst) Weber., She was united in marriage to James A. Sontag on June 8, 1957 in Gagetown. John was employed by Hopkins Trucks in Croswell from the age of 15, which he later owned, operated and retired from. He later worked for the Arenac County Road Commission, retiring in 1991. Jack Duane Carr, 74, of Raisin Township, died Monday, July 20, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1934, in Hudson, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Farnsworth) Carr. On March 13, 1954, he was married to Donna Thibodeau and she survives. Jack was employed at Tecumseh Products for 42 years, retiring in 1995. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh. Jack enjoyed his Paso Fino horses, traveling, and loved NASCAR. In addition to his wife, Donna, Jack is survived by one son, Mark (Lisa) Carr of Tecumseh; one daughter, Denise Stevens of Adrian; two brothers, Dan Carr of Camden and Warren Carr of Adrian; six grandchildren, Garrett Stevens, Megan and P.K. Kolby and Nathan, Wyatt, and Collin Carr and one great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Pratt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. On Feb. 1, 1945, he married Ruth Lucille Fisher and she preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2009. Jack was a member of Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church. He retired from The Evening News in Sault St. Marie after 41 years of service. Jack is survived by one son, Michael (Mary) of Onsted; a granddaughter, Melissa (Jared), stationed in Korea with the U.S. Army; and great-granddaughter, Catherine Galazin. In addition to his wife, Ruth, he was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Jack will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Denise Benjamin officiating. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. He was born on June 14. 1927 in Mayfield, Ky., son of the late Richard and Lula May (Jones) Dillon. James married Dolores Delegato on April 2, 1951 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Roseville. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a beloved husband and a loving father. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim was a proud veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II on the USS Puget Sound. Jana Kae Marshall, 53, of Litchfield, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday July 14, 2009 in Skiatook, Okla. She was born March 18, 1956 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Lyle E. and Joan M. (Goodrich) Reynolds. In 1974, Jana graduated from Union City High School as salutatorian of her class. She also graduated from KCC as a medical assistant, and had been employed at the Litchfield Nursing Centre and Jones Chiropractic Center. Jana was also active in her community as a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed supporting the Litchfield Community Schools, serving as a class advisor and member of the athletic boosters. Most important to Jana were her children, and she loved attending their athletic events and watching them show cattle at the fair. On June 5, 1976 she married Donald Marshall, and he survives, along with one daughter, Kayla Marshall at home; two sons, Mark (fiancée, Alicia) Marshall, Jonesville and Neil Marshall, Concord; mother, Joan Reynolds, Battle Creek; two sisters, Katrina (Gerald) Sexton, Battle Creek and Marla (Richard) Colburn, Battle Creek; several nieces and nephews. Her father and brother-in-law (Gary Hudson) preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Litchfield United Methodist Church, with interment following in Mount Hope Cemetery, Litchfield. Joe was a graduate of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School in 1970 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Army for six years. He was a former employee of Dott Manufacturing and enjoyed fishing, camping and watching baseball and softball. He was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach. He is survived by his daughters, Nikki Niemi, Gregory, Lauren Carrey, West Branch, Randi Sutherland, Bay City and Adelia Roberts, Gregory; four grandchildren, Tucker, Emmet, Taylin and Hannah; brothers, Wally (Diane) Robertsand, Clio and Gary Roberts, Harbor Beach and a sister, Carol (Milton) Pleiness, Harbor Beach. On Nov. 12, 1971,  she married Warren Ash in Colon. Judith had worked for the former Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 13 years, and later she worked several years for the Colmer Company in Colon retiring in 2002. Judith enjoyed word search puzzles, collecting owls and dolls and especially enjoyed time spent with her family. She is survived by her husband, Warren Ash of Colon; three sons, John (Lori) Ash of Sturgis, Mike (Jobi) Ash of Angola, Ind., and Brian (Debi) Ash of Colon; eight grandchildren, Crystal, Anthony, Amanda, Whitney, Kendall, Landon, Connor, and Briana; great-grandchildren Daison and Madison; two sisters, Betty (Greg) Griffin of Anaheim, Calif., and Delores (Richard) Ware of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Morenci American Legion Post #368. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Franklin) Stover of Fayette, Ohio, and Linda (Roger) McNett of Clayton; one son, Louis Grant of Clayton; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Grant of Onsted; 13 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 26 great-grand­children, eight stepgreat- grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one stepgreat- great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Evelyn Wheeler of Bryan, Ohio, and Lenore Merillat of Hudson. Larry also loved to travel, spend time with his friends and family and was an avid U-M sports fan. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a mechanical engineer at J.I. Case Co. in Racine, Wisc. and was also a Licensed Practical Nurse. Formerly a member of the Fisher Hill Methodist Church, he attended the North Reading Baptist Church, where he worked and supplied materials for their Mission Circle. He also volunteered at Crossroads Farm Youth Ministry. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and photography. Survivors include his wife, Emily (Rives) Hard, whom he married May 20, 1989; step-son Daniel D’Alessandro of Jackson; sisters Donna Graham of Louisiana and Joyce (Clem) McLain of Jonesville; brother Francis (Leona) Hard of Coldwater, brother-in-law Lowell Thomas, grandson Michael Carlson and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Carolyn Thomas and Lena Belle Hard and step-daughters Faith D’Alessandro and Sheryl Schmidt. Lou Wanda was employed at the Ubly Community School since 1981 in the cafeteria and custodian of maintenance. Mackenzie Jo Mills, 11, of Zeeland, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Mackenzie was born August 1, 1997, to Kevin and Bobbe Mills. She was a member of Coopersville Reformed Church where she made profession of faith in January of this year. Mackenzie was a student at Creekside Middle School where she would have been a 7th grader in the fall. She was an honor roll student and enjoyed being a violinist in the school orchestra. When Mackenzie was away from school, she was active in Girl Scouts, the West Michigan Swim Team, the Zeeland Recreation Age Camp Swim Team and the Zeeland Middle School Water Polo Team. Mackenzie was a beautiful and vibrant young woman who touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew her. Mackenzie is survived by her parents, Kevin and Bobbe Mills; her younger brother and special friend, Austin; her grandparents, Lucille and Raymond Ammeraal, Wesley and Bonnie Busman; great-grandmothers, Jean Rogers, Genevieve Ammeraal; aunts and uncles, Craig and Sheri Busman, Chad Busman, Doug and Roxie Ammeraal, Rick Ammeraal, Michael and Jen Mills, Judy and Paul Dykes; and eight cousins. Marian is survived by sisters, Clarissa “Chris” and Lambert Haveman of Holland, Dolores Van Noord of Holland, and Shirley and James Coeling of Hudsonville; a brother, Calvin and Yvonne Langejans of Holland. Marie Norman Zingle, age 85, passed away on July 21, 2009, after a brief illness at  Hospice House of Holland. She was born June 5, 1924 in Arkansas City, Kansas. Marie was a graduate of Kansas State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She received her master of science degree from Wayne State University and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holland. Marie was also proud of her Daughter of the American Revolution designation. Marie was professionally trained as a medical technologist but was also a renowned genealogist having authored and co-authored several publications and books including her most recent, “Albertus and Christina: The Van Raalte Family, Home and Roots”. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard; sister, Ruth London of Ardmore, Oklahoma; children, Mark and Sandy Zingle of Eagan, Minnesota, and Kirk and Brenda Zingle of Novi;  four grandchildren, Brett, Brandon, Shannon and Meredith Zingle. Marie will be greatly missed by her numerous friends and those she touched and influenced with her generous genealogy research assistance and other volunteer activities. Private services will be conducted with burial in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. Michele Mills Rokicak, age 54 of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, July 20, 2009, at her home. She was born Sept. 14, 1954, at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, a daughter to the late Bruce and Dorlene (Goodman) Mills Sr. Michele had resided in Sturgis since 1975 coming from Kalamazoo, Mich. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School with the class of 1972. Michele had been employed by Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis as the payroll clerk for more than 20 years. She had also been employed in the medical records department at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo for several years. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis, where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister. Michele enjoyed bowling, sailing, knitting and spending time with Jimmy and her grandson Xavier. She is survived by her life partner, Jim Faber; two daughters, Jenny (Josh) Palmer of Sturgis and Angela Rokicak of Lovell, Wyo.; a grandson, Xavier Palmer; a sister, Roxie Mills of Sturgis; two brothers, Bruce (Francie) Mills of Kalamazoo and Patrick Farley Mills of Hilton Head, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews. Richard Navock 1926-2009 Richard Navock, 83, Kinde, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on April 5, 1926 in Grindstone, son of the late Jacob and Nellie (Strozeski) Navock. He and Theresa Schramski were married on May 26, 1951 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Port Austin. Richard was an Army Veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Sebewaing Post 4115 and St. Michaels Catholic Church in Port Austin. Richard was a retired carpenter and loved building bird houses. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Theresa, Kinde and daughter, Linda Navock, Kinde. Robert T. “Bob” McDonough, age 57, of Three Rivers, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2009, at the University of Michigan Hospital; he was surrounded by his family. He was born on July 11, 1952, in Lockport, N.Y., the son of Lawrence and Nancy Jean McDonough. Bob graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1970.  He earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a Juris Doctor Degree, magna cum laude, from the Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich.  He was both a certified public accountant and an attorney, and  he was a member of the American, Michigan, and St. Joseph County Bar Associations. Bob began working for the Upjohn Company in 1979 and stayed with its successor organizations until his retirement in 2007.  During his tenure in the pharmaceutical industry, Bob held senior positions in Corporate Finance & Taxation, Global Public Policy, and Corporate Affairs. Bob was formerly the mayor of his hometown, Three Rivers, Mich.,  president of the Three Rivers Board of Education and chairman of the board of Three Rivers Area Hospital. More recently, he was a board member of the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation and of Borgess Health, supervisor of Fabius Township, and an instructor for graduate courses on health policy at Western Michigan University. Bob’s true love was his family.  He loved to be involved in the lives and activities of his four sons, and cherished the 40 years he spent with his high school sweetheart.  He enjoyed biking, golfing, sailing and spending summer days tending to his yard at the lake.  A devoted fan of the Wolverines, he spent many Saturdays at the Big House in Ann Arbor and often said that he bled maize and blue.  He strongly believed in public service and was very proud to serve both the Three Rivers and Kalamazoo communities. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving family, wife Kathy “Katie” (Kroggel) McDonough, whom he married on May 24, 1975;  four sons, John (Amanda), of White Pigeon, Mich., Thomas, of Chicago, Kevin and Kristofer, both of Ann Arbor, Mich.;  two brothers, Peter (Cherie), of Three Rivers, and William (Donna) McDonough, of Highland, Mich.; two sisters, Suzanne McDonough (Darrell Radson), of Houghton, Mich., and Mary Catherine (Mike) Kromrey, of Denver, Colo.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of colleagues and friends throughout his associations. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers, Mich. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 645 Douglas Ave., Three Rivers, with Fr. Mark Vyverman and Fr. William Jacobs as celebrants. Memorials may be donated to the Carnegie Center Council for the Arts, 107 N. Main Street, Three Rivers, MI.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.

Robert Voorhees, age 50, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at his home. He was born on April 8, 1959, in Tecumseh, the son of Robert and Judith (Saley) Voorhees. Robert was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as a computer technician for Defense Contractors. He enjoyed building and riding bicycles, surfing and playing the guitar and mandolin. Robert will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Robert is survived by his parents, Robert and Judith of Tecumseh; one brother, Jeff (Cathy) Voorhees of Tecumseh; one sister, Andrea (John) Morrow of Clinton; two nieces, Jessica and Heather Voorhees; two nephews, David Arlinghaus and John Perry III; several aunts and uncles; special friend of many years, Christeen Deatherage of Lake City, Fla.; and special companion Quantum the Cat. Robert was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Cremation has taken place. Services will be scheduled at a later date. Roger Stewart Bemis, 75, of Grants Pass, Ore., died Friday July 17, 2009 at his home. He was born March 17, 1934, in Hillsdale, and graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1952. He married Mary Hubacker on April 9, 1955 in Kalamazoo. She preceded him in death in 1992. They moved from Illinois to San Jose, Calif. in 1976. He worked for Chrysler Corp. for 21 years until his retirement in 1990, at which time they moved to Ashland, Ore. He moved to Grants Pass in 1992. He is survived by sons, Roger Bemis II of Beaumont, Texas and Steven Bemis of Selma, Ore.; daughter, Deborah Bemis of San Jose; sister, Phyllis Sawyer of Jonesville and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Ashland. SANDRA J. CASADONTE CROSWELL Sandra J. Casadonte, age 62, a resident of Croswell, passed away at her residence on Saturday, July 11, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 13, 1947 in Grand Rapids, daughter of the late Joseph and Kathleen (Therrian) Clark. Sandy married Robert B. Casadonte on July 8, 1972 in Royal Oak. Sandy was a homemaker. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing flowers and her flower beds around the house. Sandy also enjoyed crocheting and crafting. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert B. Casadonte of Croswell; one son, Thomas Casadonte; three daughters, Corrine Ross, Laura Short and Theresa Cardinale; twelve grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Clark. Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Chesney, her step father, Roy D. Chesney and two sisters, Sharon Justice and Dianna Bain. Wayne N. Howard, 69, of Port Richey, Fla., passed away May 21, 2009. Wayne will be lovingly missed by his daughter, Kristina Meacham (Terry); grandsons, Matthew and Andrew of Fort Mill, S.C.; and son, Patrick Howard (Carmela) of York, S.C.; brother, Bill Howard of Florida; sisters, Joyce Rambadt of Michigan and Janet Smith of Indiana.  Mr. Howard worked at Sears for many years before retiring from the auto industry.  He was predeceased by his wife, Julie; and parents, Ralph and Nellie Howard.  A private burial service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodruff Cemetery in LaGrange County, Ind.  The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Shirley enjoyed gardening and being on the computer. Steve D. Barrows, 33, died July 8, 2009. He dreamed of becoming a pilot since he was 3 years old, never considering another career. Flying would be his life. Steve began flying during high school while employed by Clay's Restaurant for four years. He later worked for and received his commercial aviation license. He attended Lakeland Elementary and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1994. Steve served in the United States Air Force as a licensed AP mechanic. He later worked for Raytheon in Dallas, Texas as a supervisor. The last ten years, Steve was employed by Quality Powder Coating in Dallas, Texas and Phoenix, Ariz. as their commercial pilot. Steve died doing what he loved most, flying. The accident occurred over the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa, Fla. All five people were lost along with Steve's beloved companions, two chocolate labs, Jake and Megan. Steve is survived by his parents, Ann and Ron Barrows; brother Brad and sister-in-law Amanda; aunts Deborah Hagaman and Colleen Barrows; uncles Don Barrows and Richard Hagaman; cousins Chad and Amanda Hagaman, Shannon and Jeff Barrows. Preceding him in death were his grandparents Frances and "Chip" Barrows, Dr. J. Albert and Ruth Long; and a very special cousin, Lance Hagaman. Memorial service will be Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Donations may be made to the ASPCA in Steve's name. Steve D. Barrows will continue to fly in the hearts of those who knew him.

Vera (Dueweke) Greenwood, 90, formerly of Alpena, Detroit, Union Lake, Lincoln, Chelsea and Blissfield, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Blissfield Place in Blissfield. Vera was born on June 24, 1919, in Alpena, Mich., the daughter of the Rev. William and Amelia (Stuetzer) Weinlander. She was first married on Sept. 13, 1952, to Albert C. Dueweke, who preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1976. She later married Lorne G. Greenwood Sr., who also preceded her in death Feb. 1, 2001. Vera was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Union Lake, Mich. She also was active in the Lost Lake Woods Club in Lincoln, Mich. Surviving is one son, Daniel (Janet Kohler) Dueweke of Centreville, Va.; stepsons, Lorne (Shirley) Greenwood Jr. and Richard (Chris Adkins) Greenwood; stepdaughter Gloria (John) Traturyk; granddaughters Carey, Sarah and Anne Dueweke; brother, William (Irene) Weinlander of Blissfield; sisters, Ruth Ingram of Lincoln, Geraldine (Elwin Gafner) Drefke of Blissfield and Arlene Eklund of Adrian; and her late father’s wife, Nadine Weinlander of Blissfield. Following Vera’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held  Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield, with the Rev. Paul Benjamin officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Verna I. (Furgason) Cramer Rowe, age 87, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Grand Court in Adrian. Born on April 17, 1922, in Tecumseh, to Bernard and Ila (Matthews) Furgason, she graduated from Tecumseh High School. She married Ivan E. Cramer of Hudson on April 24, 1941. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1973. She is survived by sons, Wellington (Nancy) Cramer of Osseo, Lionel (Sue) Cramer of Pittsford; six grandchildren, Lisa (Craig) Taylor, Michael (Sonya) Cramer, Lori (Ty) Ward, Joseph (Melissa ) Cramer, Bradley Cramer and Kimberley Cramer; 11 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew Taylor, Brandon, Joshua and Emilee Cramer, Lydia, Mariah and Leah Ward, and Joseph, Joshua and Jaden Cramer; five sisters, Vivian Woods, Mary Cox, Josephine Ross, Shirley Schadewald and Ruth Greenman; and one brother, John Furgason. On Sept. 16, 1986, she married Walter Rowe of Clinton. He survives, as do 12 step-children, many step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Harold, Gordon, Glenn, Gaylon and Earnest. Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be conducted by Eagle Funeral Home, Hudson at the Leonardson Cemetery, Pittsford at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev.
