Barbara E. Monroe, 75, of White Pigeon, Mich., passed away Friday evening, Oct. 30, 2009, at Sturgis Hospital. She was born June 23, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter to the late Charles and Alberta (Taschner) Garton. Barbara had resided in White Pigeon for the past 10 years. Prior to that she lived in Sturgis and her early life was lived in Philadelphia, where she graduated from German Town High School and continued her education in X-Ray Technology at Temple University. In 1994, she retired from Sturgis Hospital following 35 years of dedicated employment as an E-Ray Technician. Barbara also worked in Dr. Olin L. Lepard’s office in Sturgis and received her training and began her career at the German Town Hospital. On Oct. 15, 1955, she married Charles Monroe in Philadelphia. Barbara was an active member of the Three Rivers Bible Church in Three Rivers and enjoyed word games, especially Scrabble. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Charles; one daughter, Jan (David) Adamson of Sturgis; two sons, Mark (Patricia) Monroe of LaGrange, Ind., and Tim (Kris) Monroe of Manitou Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Scott Adamson, Rachel Brittin, Kirsten Schipper, Summer Adamson, Candice Adamson, Shelemiah Blood, Joshua Monroe, Bethel Monroe, Rebecca Monroe, Anna Monroe, Sarah Monroe and Ben Monroe; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters,  Patricia Hale of Tulsa, Okla. and Norma Bucia of Brigantine, NJ; one brother, David (Dorothy) Garton of East Greenville, Pa.; and one niece and several nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-3284. Barbara was born Aug. 12, 1951, in Sturgis, a daughter of Samuel and Marion (Partridge) Thompson. On Feb. 19, 1972, she married Stephen Miller. For many years Barb taught at St. Monica’s Catholic Schools in Kalamazoo. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Stephen; three children: Greg (Missy) Miller of Vicksburg, Michele Johnson of Vicksburg and Angie Dewey of Georgia; six grandchildren, Kayla, Kendall, Summer, Autumn, Nathan and Nolan. She is also survived by her sister and brothers-in-law, Patty Miller of Colorado, Dave (Sherry) Miller of Indiana and Tim (Troya) Miller of Constantine. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Marion Thompson; and a sister, Lynne Shafer. Duane Mercer, of Jerome passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born March 6, 1921, in North Adams the son of Glen and Julia (Trumble) Mercer.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine (Pickford) Mercer whom he married on Dec. 24, 1943; his parents; one infant son and one brother, William Mercer. He is survived by three children, William (Katherine) Mercer of Albuquerque, N.M., Bonny (Ray “Tex”) Hawkins of Jonesville, and Nancy (Mark) Wilcox of Havelock, N.C.; nine grandchildren, William (Reneé) Mercer, Brenda Mercer, Brock (Robyn) Mercer, Kim (Rob) Moreland, Kelly (fiance Jim Smith) Elliott, Kristin (Scott) Deck, Ernestine (Jeff) Jones, Trudy Wilcox and Rebecca Wilcox; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Mercer was a lifelong resident of the Hillsdale County area and he lived in the oldest Sesqui-Centennial farm in the county of Hillsdale. He graduated from Addison High School and enjoyed working as a farmer for many years. He retired as a plumber after working for more than 30 years and he was a member of Local 333 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. He also attended the Jerome United Methodist Church. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Duane Mercer will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in North Adams at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will take place in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in North Adams. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

He was married March 9, 1956 to Sally Gibson and she preceded him in death Sept. 12, 2009. Ed attended Albion College and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He was retired from Hillsdale Tool. He was a member and former Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, a former member of Hillsdale Community Schools Board of Education, a former member of the Key Opportunities Board, and former Hillsdale County United Way chairperson. Ed is survived by two daughters, Diane Eames of Hillsdale and Christine (Erik) Olson of Rochester Hills; a son, Douglas (Judy) Eames of Auburn, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Walter “Ross” (Stella) Eames of Sun City Center, Fla. Besides his wife Sally, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Rex Eames. Funeral services for Ed Eames will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale with the Rev. Patti Beckman officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsdale. Eleanor Rosalie Thomet, age 89, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 in Portage following a long illness.   She was born in Coldwater on June 15, 1920, the daughter of Arnold and Violet (Decker) Phelps. She was married to Arlo H. Thomet on July 6, 1939 and resided in Burlington for most of her life. She worked briefly at Wolverine, and later at the Fort Custer and Coldwater State Hospitals, where she lovingly cared for children and received numerous commendations.  Eleanor bowled in several leagues and belonged to the Moose Lodge in Marshall.  Eleanor loved to dance. She and husband Arlo were described as “Poetry in Motion” when on the dance floor. She also enjoyed card playing and spending time with her family.  Eleanor is survived by a son and daughter in law, Bruce and Myra Thomet of Traverse City; one daughter, Sherry Thomet of Holland; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlo; a son, Terry Thomet; two granddaughters Deeana Lynn Thomet and Krista Kaye Kolodizieizyck; and a sister, Virginia Wheeler. Cremation has been conducted. A private memorial service will be held at a later date with interment of ashes in the Burlington Cemetery.  If desired, memorials may be directed to either the Burlington Fire Department, or to the Alzheimers Association. Eugene F. Halaas Eugene F. Halaas, age 80, of Jensen Beach, Fla., formerly of St. Clair Shores, Mich., passed away October 31, 2009. Gene was a Korean War veteran, serving during some of the most intense combat in 1950. He received a battlefield commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was an active member of his local American Legion and VFW. He was predeceased by his wife, Polly (Rice); and son-in-law, Charles Frazier. Survived by children, Gary (Judy), Randy, Theresa Ketelhut (Chris), Elizabeth Frazier and Robert (Tonia); 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial prayer service and luncheon in Gene's memory will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday November 7, 2009, at First Congregational Church of New Baltimore 36223 Alfred St., with the Rev. She was born June 22, 1911, to Charles A. and Mae (Kirchner) Hogan in Saginaw, Michigan. Grace enjoyed crocheting, bingo, camping, biking and exercising. She was a former longtime member at St. Peter Catholic Church, Mount Clemens. Surviving are two children, Thomas (Joan) Randall and Jean E. Monfredo; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Julie Hogan. Mrs. Randall was predeceased by her husband, Harold H. Randall Sr.; son, Harold H. Henry Marvin Ramsby, 83, Cheboygan, passed to the Lord peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. He was born in Detroit on Sept. 22, 1926 the son of Lawrence and Leanna (Gentes) Ramsby. Upon graduation from Wolverine High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Corps and served during World War II as a fighter pilot. He enjoyed flying personal aircraft the remainder of his life. Henry was the C.E.O. and owner of Ramsby Well Drilling in Cheboygan for many years and served on the State of Michigan Well Drillers Board. He was a well respected and successful businessman with a humble, good humored and charitable nature. He enjoyed the Great Lakes and forests and was an avid fisherman and camper. He also enjoyed animals and his dogs Spike and Jack were his outdoor companions. Survivors include his beloved wife and soulmate Mary Kelley Ramsby of Cheboygan; his children, Mary (Joe) Barber of Milford, Cynthia (Charles) Jett of Cheboygan, William Kelley of Cheboygan, Henry S. (Lonna) Ramsby of Traverse City, Michael (Patti) Ramsby of Cheboygan, Timothy Ramsby of Cheboygan and Kristi (Steve) Thomas of Chelsea;  several grandchildren; and great grandchildren. He will be especially missed by his “Poppa Henry” buddies, Alex and Chloe Jett and Achilles and Antasha Barber. Visitation is today from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Christian Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at 2 p.m. also at the funeral home. Military honors will follow the funeral service at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions in Henry’s name may be directed to the Cheboygan County Humane Society, Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or the charity of one’s choice.

He is survived by seven children, Michell (Josh) Hubbard of Traverse City, Mike (Kim) Woods of Commerce Township, Cherish (Vern) Buel of Houston, Jamie (Ray) Schmucker of Syracuse, Ind., Marina (Tim) Borkholder and daughter Abigail of Colon, Stephen Woods of Traverse City and Salina (Barry) Kapik of Atlanta; 30 grand and great-grandchildren; mother Martha Horowitz of Florida, three brothers, Ernie Eberhard of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Wayne and Leland Eberhard both of Holt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, David Eberhard; a sister, Edna (Dolly) Rohrer; and an aunt Susie Wickey. The family will receive relatives and friends after noon Sunday at the Double M Building, 59321 Nottawa Road, Centreville, one mile north of Nottawa. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Double M Building with Pastor Thomas Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Order Amish Cemetery in rural Centreville. Jamison G. “Jamie” Pulver, 94, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. He was born Feb. 3, 1915 in Scipio Township to James and Elida (Emery) Pulver. He was married March 3, 1940 to Ruth Bean and she preceded him in death in 1976. Jamie attended the Johnson and Guy Schools, his first teacher was his aunt, Florence Emery Saettel. Jamie was a graduate of Jonesville High School in 1933. Following a short course from Michigan State College, he worked two years in St. Clair County, doing cow production and testing. He entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific area with the 98th Construction Battalion of the Seebees. In 1950 Jamie entered the postal service, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Jonesville American Legion Post 195 and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was also a member of Countryside Bible Church in Jonesville. Survivors include a brother, Elmer Pulver of Osseo; a nephew, John Pulver of Grand Rapids; many cousins; special neighbors, Tony Francis, Larry Smith and Judy Price and a good friend, Dr. Pasty Jones of Litchfield. Funeral services for Jamie Pulver will be 11 a.m. Friday at Countryside Bible Church in Jonesville with Pastor John Lillie officiating. Interment with military honors by the Jonesville American Legion will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville. He graduated from Jonesville High School.  Jerry was Supt. of Public Works for the village of Jonesville for 39 years.  He loved working with the residents of Jonesville and took pride in his job of making the village a nice looking community.  He was a former Jonesville fireman for 20 years.  Jerry was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors, along with his love of his 1969 Mustang. Survivors include his wife, Monica (Crouse) Russell; four daughters: Jamie (John) Bonham, Tracy (John) Gearhart, Amy (David) Henkel, and Stephanie Russell; grandchildren:  Danielle, Ashley, Tyler, Torrey, Dustin, Clay, Jordan, RJ, Justice, Gavin and Devin; step-grand children: Megan and Taylor; great-grand children:  Raylee, Lita, Hadrian and Ginger. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Juliana Trutian Juliana Trutian, age 83, of Shelby Township, formerly of Cadillac passed away due to a car accident on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Juliana was born February 13, 1926, to Johann and Aloisia (Maurer) Walzl in Judenburg, Austria. She married Josef Trutian on October 8, 1949, in Weisskirchen, Austria. Juliana and Josef immigrated to the United States in 1952 to pursue a better life. They settled in Cadillac in the late 1970s. Juliana became a naturalized citizen on May 3, 1983. Juliana worked a few small jobs in her life but was best known as being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family but found time to work in her garden and watch the birds. She was also a lover of animals. Juliana also found enjoyment in playing an occasional slot machine or two at the area casinos. Juliana is survived by her loving daughter, Elfriede (Larry) Schroeder of Shelby Township; loving granddaughters, Julie Schroeder and Jennifer Schroeder; brothers, Eddie Walzl and Othmar Walzl; sisters, Ana Zuber, Theresia Frewein, and Maria Moitzi. Juliana was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Josef Trutian in 1980, brother, Hans Walzl and very best friend Emma Schaub. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 6 at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac. Deacon James Siler will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery at a future date. Leah E. Moore, 92, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 31, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, a daughter to the late Raymond Bishop and Minnie (McCullough) Morey. Mrs. Moore had resided in Sturgis since 1974 coming from California. Prior to that she lived in Columbus, Ohio. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Moore enjoyed crafts and crossword puzzles. She is survived by a son, Robert (Kim) Moore of Bronson; eight grandchildren, Robert Moore, Tonya Dentler, Alissa Moore, Laresa Ashbrook, Troy Moore, Tyler Crew, Travis Crew and Jennifer Crew; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a brother, Corwin Morey of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a very good friend, Gordon Moore; two sisters, Sara Morey and Eleanor Ralston; and a brother, Bobby Keith Morey. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes  Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Leah E. Moore will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Shoup of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Lyle A. Wilcox, 92, lifelong Quincy resident and former township clerk, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Sandy’s AFC Home in Allen. Mr. Wilcox was born in Quincy on April 10, 1917 to Louis and Gula (Hurley) Wilcox. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1935 and immediately went into the family wholesale poultry and egg business with his father and brother. He eventually purchased the business from his father and brother and then sold it in 1956.  In 1939, he married Arlene DePew of Reading. They moved to their home in Quincy in 1943, where he has since resided. At the time of her death in 1995, they had been married 56 years. After selling the poultry and egg business, Lyle and Arlene went to work for the Federal Mogul Corporation in Coldwater for whom he worked 23 years, retiring in 1978. The last three years of his employment were spent with the company in Detroit, where he and his wife lived during the week and drove back to Quincy on weekends.  For 36 years, Mr. Wilcox was the Quincy Township Clerk, retiring from the position in 1991. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Quincy for 30 years and has been a member of the Quincy American Legion Post #157 and Masonic Lodge. He served with the US Navy during WWII and was stationed in Portland, Ore.  Survivors include son Neil (Phyllis) Wilcox, DVM, MPH of Gaithersburg, Md., grandchildren Ryan (Katie) Wilcox of Ypsilanti, Sara (Greg) Tavares of Charleston, S.C., Molly (Mark) Macek of Towson, Md., Tony (Julie) Wilcox of South Bend, Ind. and Tracey (John) Snyder of Osceola, Ind. and great-grandchildren Ashleigh, Haley and Kyle Snyder of Osceola, Ind., Michael Macek of Towson, Md. and Ethan Wilcox of South Bend, Ind.  In addition to his wife Arlene, he was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law Larry and Jeannette (Schaeffer) Wilcox, brother Leslie Wilcox and sister Maxine Kunkler.  Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at the George White Funeral Home in Quincy with Pastor Scott Arnold officiating. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery will follow. Visitation is scheduled Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, including a Masonic Service of Remembrance at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Quincy Public Library, Quincy Historical Society, Union Church of Quincy and Quincy High School Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Margaret E. (Peck) Gates, age 79, of Union City died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 of natural causes with her loving family at her side.  Margaret was born on April 7, 1930 in Union City to J. Harold Peck and Lena Lucille (Gwinn) Peck. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Union City and graduated from Union City High School in 1947. After high school, she attended Michigan State College and then married Lyle A. Gates.   Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle and their son Ray E. Gates.  She is survived by her daughters Lois (David) Johnson of Niles, Doris (Jeffrey) Priest of Union City, her brother Robert Peck of Haleyville, Ala., and her sister Martha (Donald) Shipe of Ashley, Ind. Margaret had five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Margaret retired from Coldwater Community Hospital dietary department in 2002 after 36 years of employment. Margaret enjoyed crafts, volunteering for 4-H, and was an avid gardener. She will be remembered for the ten years she and Lyle ran Hill Top Gardens Greenhouse from their home in Union City .  Friends may call at the Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009. Marie was a very giving person who had lots of possessions only to pass through her hands. At one time, she wrote for the Reading Hustler as reporter of the North Reading News. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Galloway of Hillsdale, Charles (Cindy) Hoard of Jonesville,  Robert Hoard of Hillsdale; one sister, Mary Maggart of Florida; one brother, Marshall (Norma) Clifton of Reading; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, James Galloway and Russell Hoard; daughter, Linda Galloway; daughter-in-law, Christine Galloway; and two brothers, Marcus and Maurice Clifton. Griffin in Goshen.  She died July 25, 2002. He is survived by three daughters, JoAnne (Karl) Holmes and Nancy Isbell of Elkhart, and Patricia (Tom) Hosler of Bristol; a son, Charles (Sheila) Lantz of White Pigeon; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Richard Lantz and Marion Lantz; a sister Claudine Beach; and four grandsons. Mr. Lantz had been employed as a milk inspector in Elkhart County and worked at Grady Milk Company, retiring from the District Health Department of St. Joseph County, Mich. He was a former Mottville Township trustee and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loved his cat, Zip. Nora E. Ringler, age 78, of White Pigeon, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2009, in White Pigeon Township, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The family would like to express their thanks to God that there were no other injuries in the accident. She was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Coldwater, a daughter of the late Melvin and Marie (Henchman) Belaire. Nora had resided in White Pigeon for the past 17 years, coming from Sturgis. On Oct. 24, 1927, she married Joseph E. Ringler in Angola, Ind. He died Aug. 18, 2009. Following 20 years of employment, she retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis. For several years, she and her husband were escort drivers for oversize loads. Nora and her husband had been very active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. She enjoyed collecting Avon, crafts and was very talented artistically. Nora taught ceramics in her home and enjoyed painting with Tri-Chem products and sold many of her crafts, ceramics and paintings at area flea markets. She is survived by a daughter, Penny Ann Sprowl of Sturgis; a son, Dale Allen (June) Ringler of Sturgis; six Grandchildren, Heather Sprowl, Becky Marie Ringler, Jackie Nicole Ringler, Joey Ringler, Joseph Ringler III and Trent Ringler; three beloved great-grandchildren; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a stepson, Joseph Ringler Jr.; and a sister, Gladys Bates. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Nora Ringler and Joseph Ringler will be held at a later date to be announced. The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements. Robert E. Downer, 72, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Quincy, Mich., passed away Oct. 16, 2009, in Bradenton, Fla, at his winter home.  Robert was born Sept. 23, 1937, to Wallace and Gladys (Marquart) Downer in Hillsdale.  Both parents preceded him in death.  He graduated from Quincy High School in 1955 and married Jennie Lee Gerber on May 19, 1956.  He also attended the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music from 1959-1962.  After graduation, he became director of Camp Selah Christian Camp, Reading, for 15 years with his wife, Jennie.  He was an active member of East Algansee Baptist Church and currently Calvary Baptist Church, Quincy.  During the winter months, he attended Fellowship Baptist in Bradenton.  He worked the majority of his life as co-owner with his father at W.E. Downer and Son Well Drilling and loved his work and all the people he met during those years. Bob and Jennie loved to travel in the U.S. and to many other countries.  They also loved fishing off their boat in Florida during the winter months. Survivors include his wife, Jennie Lee (Gerber) Downer; one son, Mark Downer, Mooresville, N.C.; one daughter, Karen (Downer) Parman, of Fayetteville, Ga.  Also surviving are two sisters, Nancy (Downer) Strang of Quincy  and Carol (Downer) Turner of Edwardsburg; five grandchildren, Kortney Parman of Atlanta, Ga., Brock Parman of Nashville, Tenn., and Mickel, Taylor and Daylee Parman of Fayetteville, Ga. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Quincy Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy.  Friends and family will be received for visitation Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy.  Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Calvary Baptist Church or Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care, 3355 26th St. W, Bradenton, FL  34205-3607.

Ronald Andrew “Ron” Leo Sr., age 65, of Three Rivers, died Saturday Oct. 31, 2009, at his home.  He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Oct. 5, 1944, and attended schools in the Pittsburg area.  Ron was married to Patricia Wightman on June 8, 1966 in Winchester, Pa.  They moved to the Mendon area in 1966 where Ron worked for Research Molding. He has been employed by Crocker Limited, now known as Camoplast for the past 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially golf. Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia;  three sons, Michael Leo (Danielle) of Mendon, Ronald Leo, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Gary Leo of Marathon, Fla.; and a grandson, Alex Leo.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Angela Leo.  The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon.  Cremation has been conducted and a private interment of ashes will take place later.  The family suggests that memorials be directed to either the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  An online register is available, and condolences may be left at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com.

His life was devoted to his children by being an involved parent in: school, soccer, baseball, bowling, karate, Indian Guides, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, four-wheeling, farming, dancing, music and band. He was an active volunteer at Graebner Elementary School and an athletic and band booster at Henry Ford II High School. After retiring, Ron enjoyed more time for trout fishing and farming. Rosemarie Damas Rosemarie Damas, 87, died November 2, 2009, at the Hospice of Queen Anne's in Centreville, Maryland after a stroke and lengthy attempt at convalescence. Born and raised in Germany, Rosemarie met her husband Jan during World War II and they came to the United States after surviving the war and being uprooted from their homeland. Rosemarie lived in Utica, Michigan with her husband, Jan, as a homemaker, mother and artist for nearly 50 years. Rosemarie and Jan moved to Grasonville, Md. in 1999 to reside near their grandson. Jan preceded Rosemarie in death in 2003. Rosemarie had an artistic eye and painted extensively in various media. In addition to her passion for art, Rosemarie loved classical music, tending to flowers (despite marauding deer) and reading books. Her defining passion was making a social connection with everyone who crossed her path whether friend, family member, or stranger. Rosemarie loved people and will be missed sorely by all who loved her. Surviving are her four sons, Stan and Kon of Colorado, Ray of Grand Ledge, Michigan and Mike of Grasonville, Maryland. Also surviving are two grandchildren Stefan and Alena; stepgranddaughter, Lili; and Bjoern Weidlich, an exchange student who became her "adopted" grandson. An open house celebration of Rosemarie's life will be hosted by Mike and his wife, Joyce, on November 14 from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to two of Rosemarie's favorite charities: Brady Campaign - www.bradycampaign.org/donate or Sierra Club - www.sierraclub.org.

Rosemary Victoria Jenuwine Rosemary Victoria Jenuwine, age 81, of Sterling Heights and a longtime resident of Center Line and Warren, died Monday, November 2, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Rosemary was born December 23, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Hector Locqueneux and the late Leona (nee Van Overbeke) Locqueneux. She was raised in Detroit and attended Our Lady of Good Council and Nativity High School. After her schooling she worked several jobs before becoming a full time stay-at-home mom. Mrs. Jenuwine and her husband were founding members of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church; also Mrs. Jenuwine founded the Active Christian Women's Club and the Stephen Ministries at St. Martin de Porres. Her family will remember a woman who was a caregiver, devout Christian, leader, mentor, and constant teacher. Also she was a person who touched many hearts and impacted many souls. Mrs. Jenuwine is the beloved wife of James Jenuwine. She is the dear mother of Vicki, Dan (Susan), Patty, Carol (Paul) Novak, and Shawn Marie. Loving grandmother of Jennifer, Danny, Jessica, Amy, Julie, Laura, Lisa, Christie, Katie, Amanda, and Jacob. Shirley J. (Joy) Wagner age 77 of Colon passed away, Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the Battle Creek Health System. Shirley was born June 2, 1932, in Matteson Township, a daughter to the late Winfield and Ifa Jean (Knox) Weinberg. On Nov. 24, 1948, she married R. John Wagner in Coldwater. Shirley had lived most all of her life in Colon and at her present address for more than 60 years.  She had worked for the former Lamb Knit Co. and had retired from the Colmer Co. after many years of service. Shirley loved to fish, mushroom hunt, quilting, oil painting and was a collector of Garfield. She is survived by her husband, John Wagner, of Colon; four children, Dixie (Charles) Miller of Hastings, Raymond J. (Brenda)  Wagner Jr. of Colon, Steven H. (Judy) Wagner of Bronson and Allen K. Wagner of Pittsburg, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and five sisters. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. 1 p.m. Saturday at the Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. A memorial service celebrating the life of Shirley J. (Joy) Wagner will then take place at 1 p.m., with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Private burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.  If desired, the family suggests memorials by made in memory of Shirley to either the Colon Booster Club or the Colon American Legion Auxiliary. Steven John Kasprzyk Steven John Kasprzyk, age 54, of Shelby Township passed away at home on October 23, 2009. He was born in Detroit, Mich., to Leonard and Annabelle (Johnson) Kasprzyk Sr. He graduated from Eisenhower High School with the first graduating class in 1973. An avid Eisenhower alumnus fan, he attended the baseball and football games with great enthusiasm. He also videotaped the first cable broadcast of the Eisenhower High School football game in 1992. For several years he officiated for youth baseball, football, and basketball games. He videotaped and did the play-byplay for the Shelby Township Lions from 1992-1996. Steven enjoyed photography, U of M football, cooking, barbecuing and following his favorite band: Hipshot. He was well known in the area as Santa Steve. He enjoyed dressing up in his Santa suit and entertaining families and children at Christmas time. He is survived by his father, Leonard Kasprzyk Sr.; stepmother, Marie; sisters, Frances (Ken) Meerschaert Sr. and Jean Shellabarger; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends; and special friend, Jeanne Knight. He was predeceased by his mother, Annabelle and his brother, Leonard Jr. A public memorial Mass will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009, eulogy at 10:50 a.m. Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Kieran Catholic Church, 53600 Mound Road, Shelby Township. William J. Dopp

William J. Dopp William J. Dopp, age 87, a resident of Clinton Township, passed away on Tuesday November 2, 2009, after complications related to heart surgery. Mr. Dopp was born October 15, 1922, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Edwin and Mabel (Stark) Dopp and was a graduate of Mount Clemens High School. On January 6, 1945, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Baarck of Mount Clemens, Michigan. During World War II, he served in the United States Air Force. The war ended before he was deployed overseas, and he continued his service in the Air Force Reserves until 1960. Mr. Dopp served as president of the Selfridge Air National Guard Base Community Council between 1993-95, and was involved in organizations such as the Commemorative Air Force and the Yankee Air Museum. Mr. Dopp is known to many as the longtime owner of Dopp Furniture, which he ran successfully for 45 years with his son James. Throughout his lifetime, he served his community in various civic organizations including the Mount Clemens Kiwanis Club, the Downtown Development Authority, and the Mount Clemens Chamber of Commerce. He was also a lifelong active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton Township. Mr. Dopp is survived by his children, Pamela Dopp of London, Ontario, Gloria (James) Lockhart of Northville, Richard Dopp of Clinton Township, daughterin-law Joan Dopp of Harrison Township, six grandchildren, Emily (Shane) Joines, Jeffrey and Andrea Dopp, Jonah Lester, Melanie and Megan Lockhart, three great-grandchildren, Brendan, Lucas and Ivy Joines. He is also survived by a sister Marion Woltmann of Mount Clemens, special family friend Michael Flanagan of Center Line and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn (2007), son James (2008), and his parents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6 at 11 a.m. (instate 10 a.m.) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38900 Harper, Clinton Township with Reverend Kenneth Wise officiating. William Robert Sowle, 85, of Jonesville, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at home. He was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Amboy Township, to Harry and Alla Elsie (Farver) Sowle. He was first married in 1945 to Clara Long and she preceded him in death in 1991. He was married Oct. 17, 1999, to Eva Mae Westfall Lockwood; she preceded him in death July 20, 2009. Robert was retired from Wells Equipment and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany. Robert is survived by two step children, Judy Ann (Charles) Alspaugh of Reading and William Earl (Sharon) Lockwood of Nashua, N. H.; a sister, Chloey Foust of Litchfield; five step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Eva Mae, he was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Clara; three sisters, Elsie, Zelma and Mildred and three brothers, Kincle, Arthur Kelly and Harold Irving. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow at the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jonesville United Methodist Church or the Reading Emergency Unit.
