Andrew S. Wilson Andrew S. Wilson, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 14, 2009. He was born October 2, 1966, to William D. (deceased 2000) and Patricia (Ledbetter) Wilson. Andy graduated from Lake Shore High School in 1985. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army Combat Corps of Engineers and later the Michigan National Guard. He attended Ferris State University. He is survived by his mother; his brothers, David (Maureen, deceased 2009), Scott (Susan), and William "Lee" (Kathy). Also survived by four nephews, James (Denise), Drake, Noah, and Evan; and two nieces, Olivia and Madison. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by close friends Craig Griffin and Matt Winter. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2009, at 7 p.m., Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Avenue, St. Clair Shores. Visitation from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that people honor Andy through one random act of kindness in his memory.

Bruce G. Macey Bruce G. Macey, age 63, a resident of Roseville for most of his life passed away Sunday, November 15 in Warren. He was born March 10, 1946, in Detroit. Mr. Macey was a retired Roseville Police Officer who earned the Officer of the Year award for two of the 13 years that he served on the police force. Mr. Macey is survived by his children, Dawn (Vance) Ryan, Bruce ll, Jeffrey, Jesse, and Virginia (Bernard) Masheff; 10 grandchildren; mother, Virginia (Ben) Campbell; and brothers, Ronald, Steven, and Raymond. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Marie Macey; and his father, Eugene Macey. Memorial visitation Thursday 4-6 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot, Roseville. Claire L. Buchmann, age 82, of Ypsilanti, Mich.,  beloved wife of the late William E. Buchmann, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009. She was born April 17, 1927, in New Orleans, La., the daughter of Bernard J. and Josephine (Donlon) Redler. Claire was a member of the Senior Center in Ypsilanti. She was a homemaker for 44 years in Constantine. She enjoyed cooking, reading, travel and spending time with her family. She loved visiting and corresponding with many friends, near or distant. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ypsilanti. She was an extremely vibrant, kind and thoughtful woman who went out of her way to help others. Claire is survived by two sisters, Leona Larzelere and Dolores Richard, both of New Orleans; her daughters, Karen (Curtis) Sherer, Sharon (Todd) Zimont and Kathleen Buchmann, as well as her six beautiful grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, William, Amanda, Courtney and Savannah. The funeral mass was held Nov. 16, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 410 W. Cross Street, Ypsilanti with Fr. Bob Roggenbuck as celebrant. Burial was in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Expressions of sympathy may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Glen Jewl Brown, 82 of Sherwood, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born in Harriman, Tenn. on Feb. 2, 1927 to Raymond and Blanche (Hall) Brown. The family moved to Michigan and he entered the Klondike Country School. He graduated from Hesperia High School in Oceana County. He entered the Navy and was stationed in the Marianas Islands during World War II. Following his enlistment in the service, he attended Central Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Education. He then attended the University of Michigan and graduated with his Masters in Education. In 1967, he graduated from Michigan State University with his Doctoral degree in Educational Administration. He taught high school in the Muskegon Public School District. In 1966, as a professor, he began teaching at Indiana State University in educational administration. He taught for 25 years before retiring in 1990. Glen and Diane enjoyed traveling and twice spent time in Europe. During their four university sabbaticals, they spent four months each on Cape Cod with friends Sylvia and David Gardener. He is survived by his wife Diane (Milligan) of 42 years and children; son Charles (Pat) Brown of Grand Rapids, son Daniel (Amy) Brown of Sedona, Ariz., daughter Marjorie (Marc) Jacobs of Portage, son Tracy (Lori) Brown of Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren: two great grandchildren; and two brothers Clyde Brown of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Edward Kolbe of Hesperia. He was preceded in death by his brother James Kolbe and a sister Helen Ruth Chase. He was a member of the Cross Roads Bible Church, a life member of N.E.A., the Exchange Club as well as holding memberships in several education organizations. After Glen retired, he and Diane moved to the Milligan Centennial Family Farm which has been in the family since 1864. Glen appreciated nature and the out of door setting on the farm. He had many friends here and truly enjoyed their friendship. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 5-8:30 p.m. at Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens and Thursday, Nov. 19 from 1-1:30 p.m. at the Cross Roads Bible Church in Sherwood with funeral services to follow at the church at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Trent Hammond officiating. He was married Feb. 21, 1995, to Deborah Gordon and she survives. Gregory was a 1977 graduate of Hillsdale High School and was employed by ACT in Hillsdale for 25 years. He enjoyed working on cars, lawn mowers and small engines. Besides his wife, Deborah, he is survived by two sons, Zachary and Garrett Byers, both at home; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Marian Tuttle; his maternal grandmother, Florence Duerr of Chicago; a sister, Machelle (Gary) Langhann of Hillsdale; and two brothers, Gary (Janette) Byers of Osseo and Larry Byers of St. Louis, Mo. Jerome P. 'Jerry' Schafer Jerome P. "Jerry" Schafer, age 62, a resident of New Baltimore, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 15, 2009, in Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Schafer was born September 11, 1947, in Mount Clemens to the late George and Helen (Bartkowiak) Schafer. He married Sandra Moran in Roseville, Michigan, on November 9, 1968, a devoted wife with whom he shared a more than 41-year love affair. Jerry graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Roseville in 1965 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the co-owner of The Cabinet Shoppe in St. Clair Shores and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Baltimore. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, woodworking, remodeling his home, but mostly spending time with his family and grandchildren, devoting more than half of his life caring for his son. John Franklin Berridge, age 76, of Adrian passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, surrounded by his family at Bixby Medical Center. He was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Marion, Ohio, to the Rev. J. Howard and Bertha (Delaney) Berridge. On March 26, 1954, he married Leona Marie Glenn and she survives. John had been the Paint Department Manager at Montgomery Wards, and then had been employed by Tecumseh Products for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Adrian Moose Lodge. John was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Marie, he is survived by a son, John Douglas (Deborah) Berridge of Sand Creek; two daughters, Nancy (Francis) Pavelka of Toledo and Debra Berridge and her husband, Duke Deatrick, of Adrian; five grandchildren, Nicole (Dominic) Gonzalez, Michael Pavelka, Danielle (Russ) Fenner, Nicholas Berridge and Colleen Berridge; six great-grandchildren, Hayley, Jzavion, Tasya, Carter, Simon and Ryan; three brothers, Earl (Joyce) Berridge, the Rev. Paul (Gloria) Berridge, both of Brookville, Fla., and Virgil (Pat) Berridge of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Glenna Hooker of Jacksonville, Fla., and Shirley Yochum, of Bay City; three brothers-in-law, Francis (Bonnie) Glenn of Delaware, Ohio, Clifford (Linda) Glenn of Marion, Ohio, and Charles Glenn of Marion, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also a member of the Arabian Horse Association. A graveside memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Lisa Lou Sears-Blalock will be held at the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Ray Wilson officiating. Melvin Gerald Scheske, age 76, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly early Saturday evening, Nov. 14, 2009, at St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw, Mich. He was born July 26, 1933, in Detroit, a son of the late Edward and Linda (Meggert) Scheske. Mel had resided in Sturgis since 1969 coming from Southfield, Michigan. He married Rita Christian in Detroit. His formal education began at Nazareth Lutheran School in Detroit and he graduated from Alpena High School with the class of 1951. Following his graduation from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp serving during the Korean War from 1952-1955. Upon his return from the Marine Corp he enrolled at Wayne State University in Detroit receiving his bachelor of science degree in 1959. His working career began with Arthur Andersen & Co. where he became a Certified Public Accountant in 1961. He later assumed the position of controller at the Birmingham Eccentric News and in 1969 he joined the Kirsch Company in Sturgis as its chief financial officer a position he held until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he established a tax accounting service that he was currently operating. Mel was a very active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where he had served as president, treasurer, usher and greeter. Prior to that he had taught Sunday school in inner-city Detroit. He was a longtime member of the Sturgis Kiwanis Club where he had served as treasurer for many years and was a member of B.P.O.Elks #1381. He was a past member of the First National Bank, Citizens Bank, Glen Oaks Foundation, Sturgis Hospital and Junior Achievement Board of Directors. Mel was the very proud sponsor of the Scheske Open which was founded in 1977. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita; four sons, Terence (Julia) Scheske of Tupelo, Miss., Ronald (Beth) Scheske of Sturgis, Dean (Peg) Scheske of Canton and Eric (Marie) Scheske of Sturgis; 18 grandchildren, Laura, Greg, Pam, Matthew (Melissa), Brett, Kate, Dan, Christian, Nicholas, Rachel, Alex, Abbie, Jack, Michael, Meg, Erin, Therese and Max; one great-grandson, Andrew; one brother, Vernon (Jan) Scheske of Waco, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. His parents and two brothers, Alvin Scheske and Eldon Scheske preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes - Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331. Nancy J. Pieknik Nancy J. Pieknik, age 68, of Clinton Township, died on Monday, October 19, 2009. She was born June 24, 1941, in Mount Clemens to the late Frank B. and Elizabeth T. Kolozvari Pieknik. Ms. Pieknik was employed by Ameritech as a secretary for over 35 years, retiring in December of 1998. She is survived by brother, John A. "Jack" (Pamela) Pieknik of Mesa, Arizona; nephews, Scott (Heather) Pieknik of Eastpointe, Stephen Pieknik of Mount Clemens; three great-nephews, Jason, Chase, and Christian; and cousin, Ron (Wendy) Kolozvari. The Ten R’s lost the world’s greatest dad. Richard L. (Dick)Pranger, 85, of Adams Lake, passed away Nov. 12, 2009. He was the son of Albert and Ida (Grabner)Pranger. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1941 and was a World War IIveteran serving in the Navy in the South Pacific from 1943-1946. He owned the Pryofax Gas Co. and was an automobile salesman for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #381 and a member of St. Gaspers Catholic Church. He also served as director of the Adams Lake Conservation Club for 40 years. On June 10, 1948, he married Alice Tieman, who preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1981. On Oct. 10, 1991, he married Kathleen Schneider. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2005. He is survived by his children, Rosanne (Terry)Good of Fort Wayne, Ind., Rex (Susan )Pranger of Adams Lake, Rod (Chris)Pranger of Huntertown, Rita (Doug)Sutton of Adams Lake, Rhonda (Richard)O’Brian of Wolcottville, Reed (Deby)Pranger of Brushy Prairie, Reinette (John)Arbogast of North Twin Lake, Rick (Leigh)Pranger of Sylvan Lake, Rochelle Pranger and Scott Ensley of McClish Lake and Randi (Glen)Turner of Kendallville;  one sister, Constance (Kenneth)Poiry of Torrence Calif.; two stepchildren; 11 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and eight great-step grandchildren. He was a well-known businessman and owner of White Pigeon Mini-Storage. Steve was an entrepreneur who enjoyed creating a business. He was a member of Christ Chapel in South Bend, Ind. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Candace (Jon)Martin of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Chris (Rebecca)Bornman of Syracuse and Shawn (Melissa)Bornman of Milford; nine grandchildren; a brother, Patrick Bornman of Fort Wayne; a sister-in-law, Irene Bornman of Goshen, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. In 1987 Sybil, and her husband Wally, came to Bronson to enjoy their time together on Matteson Lake. Mrs. Marks was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Sturgis. She had a great love of music, writing songs and playing guitar at many different churches. She also enjoyed speaking at many churches, giving her life testimony. Sybil is survived by her sister Bobby A. Potts of Valley, Ala., her adopted family whom she lived with for many years, Julie and Joseph Burger of Bronson, her very special grandchildren, Ragen Jordan, Aaron Jordan, Morgan and Emily Burger.
